When I saw ONE guy handling ten tables, bussing, and working the register I almost walked out. But he was calm, efficient, and didn't flinch when we changed our order. The wait time for two breakfast orders was very reasonable. The Paleo Bowl was ample and yum. Another Yelper indicated that the French Toast here is the best they've had: it's definitely one of the better versions I've had. They offer a wide selection of hot sauces, not just the usual boring one or two. Coffee and water is self-serve, so get used to that, but this definitely helps with service efficiency. Cute place, parking is someone easy.

I really wanted to like this place since they're so dang close to my house. .....And then I walked out smelling like my uncles trailer park. (Ok... like a Quentin Tarantino movie I started at the end of the movie) So I walked in and seen the sign that says "wait to be seated" and within 5 mins I was seated. I waited another 7-10 mins before someone walked up to take my order. I am like, can I have a cup of coffee please and was told, oh you can help yourself to the coffee over there. (my inside voice was like, why didn't they tell me that when I sat down) ugh. anyway, I went to get coffee and a course it was empty..It took another 7 mins to get fresh coffee out. I can't remember the last time in Portland were I ordered breakfast before ordering coffee. I ordered the Paleo bowl w/ bacon. It was ok but lacked some spices. It took a long time to get my breakfast out to me. The service seemed less than happy to be there this morning and the ventalation is not good so they open up the dining room window and so all the smoke filters out through there and on everybody clothes. Not Good. So, Don't be in a hurry if you eat here and your clothes will smell like bacon when you leave here. with all the breakfast places in this town....I'll pass

It seems a little unfair that I get to write a review of the Eclectic Kitchen as all I ever get there is the Big Breakfast. It's so good, and it gives you a little taste of everything. They're pretty standard Portland fair as far as restaurants go: Self-service coffee and water, plentiful vegetarian options, small and, sometimes you'll have to wait. I like the servers a lot, they always make us feel welcome, especially my 5 year old. They do breakfast well; I've never had anything from the lunch menu. This is a great neighborhood spot that you should check out. You're going to have to wait a bit if they're busy but that just gives you time to chat with your dining companion and to slow down a bit.

We had a work event nearby, so we went here for breakfast beforehand. Given that it was a Thursday and we got there right when they opened, it wasn't crowded. Pros: The hash was wonderful, they had GF biscuits (and plenty of other GF options), and the space was comfortable. Cons: The biscuit was a little dry (though since I had to request a GF one, I probably shouldn't have expected anything other than slightly dry), and the coffee seemed a little cold (even though they had just opened) Overall, I would return again.

Great little place. Their specialty seems to be real southern style biscuits. Had the biscuits n gravy and they were excellent :-)

Food was good but the service was poor. Order came out wrong, no sorry or anything, bare minimum interaction, walked out with no thank you or acknowledgement for our business. Was looking forward to trying this place out for the first time as we're local but we'll not be back.

Breakfast. It's not a meal I usually leave the house for except maybe to pick up some bagels to freeze and use over a period of a month or so, but when you have someone in town for the weekend and he's treating for said meal? You go out for breakfast. I've passed Eclectic Kitchen and seen a nice menu but I really didn't pay attention to the fact that their breakfast/ brunch items are what people come here for. Challah French toast, biscuits, cheese grits, breakfast sandwiches and the big breakfast. Lots to choose from and decisions to make. Bacon and potato hash? Maybe. Items with kale? Maybe not. There are vegetarian and vegan options but when there is bacon staring at me on the menu, I go for bacon every time. The big breakfast has two pieces of challah French toast, a biscuit with gravy (I opted out of the gravy), two eggs, your choice, potatoes (or upgrade for cheese grits) and a side meat (bacon, sausage, chicken sausage and I believe a veggie sausage). It was a perfect side, nothing was greasy and it was all good. The French toast tasted exactly like what I make myself and the bacon came out well done and so crispy. I enjoyed the cheese grits as well. I got some hot chocolate as well but that almost seemed like it was Swiss Miss. Overall a nice place and the prices were reasonable. It's nice that it's only a 10 minute walk for me there, so I guess I have found at least one more reason to leave the house for breakfast every so often. Enjoy.

I have to say the service, decor and overall feel of eclectic kitchen is awesome! We ordered the biscuits and gravy with sausage and spinach, Big Breakfast and the French toast for kids all of which are fantastic! This place is a must visit.

Such a cute and quaint spot! Service was very nice, friendly and attentive but not overbearing. The food was super yummy, and breakfast all day! Be sure to take a peak at the specials board before you order...I was a little disappointed I missed the opportunity to get pumpkin french toast.

Can't believe we waited so long when we only live 7 blocks away! I have been searching for the best biscuits and gravy since we moved back to Portland nearly 4 years ago. Well, I just found it! Eclectic Kitchen just catapulted to the top of the list. Perfect consistency of the biscuit and a flavor explosion in the gravy. I prefer a dense biscuit and a thick but not too thick, flavorful but not too salty gravy. This is so good that it is taking every fiber of my being to not just wolf it down. Kicks balls and ass!

I had the biscuit breakfast sandwich #3 - bacon, egg, spinach and guacamole. I was told the guacamole was house-made; indeed, it had to be because it really was just chopped up pieces of very unripe avocado. The sandwich itself was on two small biscuits (not one larger one) and needed some sauce or something as it was a bit dry (a guacamole made from ripe avocados would have sufficed here). The bacon was tasty, the spinach was fresh, and the egg was served separately as the chef forgot to put it on the sandwiches (I wondered - is it normally cut in half so each little sandwich gets half the egg?). All in all, not too bad but certainly not the best I've ever had, especially here in Portland.

Good local breakfast spot. I had read several four star reviews and had really gotten my hopes up for the best biscuits and gravy in town. Unfortunately, the biscuits and gravy didn't really meet my expectations. It wasn't bad but it wasn't the best in town. The highlight of my meal was the French toast. Excellent French toast. Dare I say the best I've had in Portland. Perfectly cooked. Not too heavy. Not too sweet. Just perfect. We also enjoyed the crisp bacon and self-serve coffee.

Don't go here. Biscuits were dry, coffee was super bitter and you have to get up to get a refill. We really wanted to like it but it was not good at all.

There seems to be accommodation for just about every "diet" out there: Veg, vegan, paleo, low carb, blah blah blah. The menu is varied, and it seems that there are decent choices available for all. I thought the breakfast was good, but the service is super slow. One server for the entire restaurant (inside and outside), and what looks like one cook. Moral of the story: don't expect super fast service, order your food at the counter, and go sit down and wait. Coffee/refills along with water are self serve - so get caffeine loaded while you wait. I'm not sure we'll be back in a hurry, but it is nice to rotate options regardless.

Wonderful food, wonderful people. I've been to countless breakfast and brunch spots in Portland, and this place has all the elements of a favorite. No long waits! Friendly staff! Easy atmosphere! And most importantly, consistently delicious food. Try the biscuit sandwich specials, and the "Half and Half", half French Toast and half veggie or meat scramble. The French toast is made with Challah bread and is perfect: crisp on the outside, buttery on the inside. The scramble is flavorful and perfectly cooked. No dry eggs or underdone veggies- just perfect. Vegetarian and gluten-free friendly!

Great hideaway paleo breakfast joint recommended by a local crossfitter. Great options for breakfast. We had the paleo ranchero and gluten free toast....delicious! My person is a big guy so he would have liked to have seen larger portion sizes but for me, 5'5 little person the serving size was just right. Service was friendly and quick.

  • Daniel W.

First off, the short haired server who is super bubbly was amazing. You just don't get service like that all the time in Portland. Portions were perfect, not so little that I feel gipped when it comes time to pay, and not so much that I have to take some eggs home, only to never be eaten again (because who warms up already cooked eggs?). I like the trend of serving yourself coffee and water, because as a former server it would make me think I'd have more time to attend to other aspects of my service. My wife had the Paleo bowl, which she held in high regard, and I had the chicken apple sausage scramble. The eggs were great, and the potatoes even better. Highly recommend.

Okay, this is GOOD. We're always on a search for somewhere I can eat paleo, and Eclectic Kitchen does not disappoint! Fast, fresh, friendly...what's not to like? We'll be back.

We got the chicken sausage scramble and the day's special of pulled pork huevos rancheros. The scramble was OK, it had the basic ingredients, but no seasoning or anything to make it any different or better than what you could whip up at home without trying. The biscuit that came with it was decent but tiny. NOT "the best" in this town or any other, and NOT worth the $2.50 they charge for a biscuit by itself. The huevos were a dud. The pulled pork had the taste and texture that said it had been sitting in the fridge for a couple of days, and the salsa had turned bad, it had that slightly fermented taste of salsa that's been sitting around way too long. The tortillas were tough and dry. If we had paid like $5 for this dish at a roadside taco shop, it might have passed, but $13.50 here? No. The one redeeming component was the side dish of black beans with lard or bacon fat, that was pretty tasty. The ambiance, the service, and the self-serve water and coffee were all on par for a cheap tawdry cafe anywhere. Nothing bad, but pretty lackluster.

My family and I went to Eclectic Kitchen for Mother's Day. We thought that the French Toast is the best we've had in Portland. I recommend so many of their breakfasts that I suggest you come over and try them. But, oh, that French Toast! It is a small family run restaurant where one will feel right at home.

Let's start with fruit flies in December bombarding us while we ate There are about 7 tables here and I believe the owner, who is working hard! Servicing them all...but not well. Out of certain things on the menu early sat morning. Slow to bring hot water for refill tea. And the check. Mediocre food. I may try again. Not for breakfast as the menu is not great.

  • Paula W.

Maybe I've gotten spoiled at the page-long breakfast choices offered at many eateries because I thought the options this morning were a bit sparse. Granted they had at least a dozen items to choose from, but many places offer at least a dozen ways to enjoy an omelete. Three of the group ordered the bacon cheddar hash and I dare say not one of us was terribly excited about it once it graced the table. "I couldn't find the cheddar", "My eggs were overcooked", and "Just so-so" were the comments heard (the last one by myself). However, one of the daily specials was chocolate bacon french toast.....to die for! Coffee and water was self serve so with a group of 7 people, a bit inconvenient to traipse back and forth across the small dining area to refill glasses. In a city that has a handful of breakfast spots for our monthly brunch group to check out on just about any block, sometimes it's hit or miss with us. Today, I'm afraid, it was a bit of a miss.

Great neighborhood joint, no frills, relaxed & friendly atmosphere. They have some of the best biscuits around. Food always comes quickly, menu doesn't seem to change much but is consistent. Bacon is yummy. I tend to get the Veggie Hash or breakfast special. Serve-your-own coffee, tea and water.

Such great breakfast and EXCELLENT service. I always order the biscuit sandwich with bacon whenever I need a breakfast pick me up. The biscuits are melt in your mouth goodness. They are so soft and flaky. This place is lovely.

The owner of eclectic is a very amazing cook, he knows what hes doing in that small kitchen back there! And he makes his own jam, among other things, I love when places make their own condiments! But I'm a huge sucker for the really cute server, Brian. He's a sweetheart and knows exactly what to do and say to make you feel welcomed Hehe ;) besides the cute host/server and cook heres the reveiw lol As you walk in, to your left is a impressive collection of hot sauces to choose from and a great beverage selection. I have been here at least 3 times and eclectic has amazing food. Especially the biscuits and gravy! Never let me down! I have also ordered one of their specials of the day; a peaches and cream french toast platter. It was heaven in my mouth! The cream was even made from scratch. Love that they serve local fresh fruit from the stand right next to them. Another reason why they are so awesome! Their little pastries on the counter they sell are very good too! Must try the bacon cheese scones, if you are not a scone fan, this will change your mind. This little kitchen owns up to its name. A little bit of everything in its own little way. If you haven't tried eclectic, it's a must! Five stars here, no complaints!

Walked by this place last week and saw the "breakfast served all day" sign, so this weekend gave it a try. Love the early opening time and for now the place has not gotten the major notice of the Portland breakfast crowd. I don't think it will be long before we see lines out the door by 9. Self serve coffee bar greeted us on the way in. Several choices of good brew and an "eclectic" assortment of mugs to choose from. Breakfast ranged from about 14 listed items along with 5 different scrambles and two specials on the chalk board. We choose the Black bean scramble and the Bacon Cheddar hash. Both came with seasoned potatoes and choice of toast or biscuit. Prices all under 10 with a few exceptions. The scramble had yummy corn salsa along with guac and sour cream. It was very good even with the dairy I asked them to leave off. They get points for not even batting an eye when I said no cheese and even telling me there was sour cream so I could omit it too. I didn't try the hash but my friend cleaned his plate. What tasted like homemade jam on the table in little pots for our toast was also a nice touch. They also have gluten free options and will sub in tofu or egg whites. I wish I had been hungry enough to try two things but I guess it will wait til my next visit. Friendly service and we were able to linger over our coffee and wander up to pay when we were ready.

Average across the board. I had a breakfast burrito that was supposed to have sausage and I found it only at the end in one half. No salsa or heat around. I have forgotten what my vegetarian friend had - but I recall she just kinda shurgged when I asked her how it was. I will say the food was hot as was the coffee. Service was fine as was the pricing.

Pleasant staff, but not necessarily the fastest service. We had two breakfast burritos, which are huge and quite tasty. Also tried the bacon (kind of pricy, but at least it's high quality). The bicuits and gravy are not your standard country gravy and had a little kick, but was also delicious. The prices were reasonable and I'd recommend it. Plan on returning for really good food.

We had a groupon, and so headed out here for Sunday morning breakfast. And Great News!--There was NO line!!--we walked right in and got a table. This is noteworthy in Portland. And it was Bridge Pedal day, too. We felt like we had scored big time. Our food choices were good but not fabulous. I had a paleo-style scramble with bacon and crab and lots of vegetables. It sounds fabulous, but was merely good--needed some more spicing up and...cheese. But I always think that everything needs cheese. Sweetie had biscuits and gravy, which were also good, but sort of wholesome--hard to do with biscuits and gravy. We'd eat there again--especially since there wasn't a wait for a table. But we'd rather go to Helser's or Pine State, or...

This is a neighborhood joint, the kind joint you only wish you had in your neighborhood. The owner's Lora and Ian, are adorable and make you feel right at home. Both of them graduates of the Culinary Institute, bringing new and inventive extras to the menu through their specials and Loras homemade biscuits and marshmallows. They even have Gluten Free options and a savory Paleo Bowl for all those watching their waistlines. Bright colored art on bright colored walls make it a cheery and colorful spot that welcomes hipsters, young and old. This place is delightful and and you can have it your way at the Eclectic Kitchen on Fremont. Open for breakfast & lunch Tues-Sunday.

This place is charming! We had a chinook book coupon so we decided to give a new place a try and we found this gem. My brunch was very good and the free house coffee is a plus on a groggy morning.

There is no excuse for screwing up something as simple as eggs. Over medium does not mean fried until the yolks are hard. The biscuit was ok but we were not offered butter so it was pretty dry. I could have asked for butter but I had taken one look at my oily, over cooked eggs and called it quits. I miss the Blue Moose Cafe, this place is a terrible substitute.

  • Linnea J.

Delicious, easy, great service, healthy options, serve your own coffee (so never annoyingly without). We try to stick to brunch spots with only AMAZING reviews, so were skeptical to try this place at first... But the experience was five-star, so decided to review. Go, you won't regret it :)

  • Dana B.

Went there for breakfast on a lazy day and was happy to find they served breakfast all day. The biscuits are amazing! Bonus - you can take and bake biscuits as well :) My eggs were cooked well and my meal was great. It was also very affordable. My friend got a burrito that I was less impressed with. It was a little dry and somewhat bland. I would like to go back and try one of their sandwiches. I think it is a great place for people who are uber conscious of the ingredients in their food or have food allergies and on a budget. I can't speak for lunch but their breakfast is awesome!

  • Sarah W.

Went for lunch today with the hub and we got two sandwiches: the turkey ranch and the chicken pesto. Both sandos hit the spot (nothing "special", but it's good, fresh food) and the side salad was tasty, too. Looking forward to going back to try breakfast and biscuits (which you can purchase by the dozen and bake at home yourself!).

Nice to find a quiet, bright spot for breakfast with simple, quality food and good coffee at a fair price. Friendly owner, good eggs, potatoes and french toast. No fancy blah blah blah, not overrun by the brunch crowd. I'll be back.

I actually very much appreciated the kid friendly aspect of this cafe. It TRULY is kid friendly because the tables are very comfortably spaced and the kids area. This is a problem I have with some places is that they advertise "kid friendly" as a way to draw families and when you get there its just like they jampacked a booth with toys and the kids are running on top of each other. The food was really wholesome and actually made me feel good and energized. Sometimes after you eat at a restaurant the food makes you feel like a turd, but not here. The bread that they use is really fresh and we just kept ordering things like the corn chowder and bread pudding after our original order. Everything was very "real" tasting and not processed.I was thrilled with the place and am excited to watch them grow their success.

  • Daniel P.

The food here is pretty good but the menu is lacking variety. I ordered the veggie hash and it was pretty good, but I wasn't thrilled about the selection. The coffee was ok and the service was ok. I'd give it four stars but the coffee and water are self-serve, which I find annoying since I am paying $12 for a breakfast.

  • Terry S.

Very nice indeed. Offered me chanterlli shrooms w/my mushroom scramble. And a FRESH homemade bisquit! Trailhead coffee and no screaming kids like across the street. Do parents not parent anymore? I drove from Beaverton just to have a wonderful breakfast, and I did.

  • Kyle D.

The Turkey Bacon Sandwich I had was good. The bread was nice, although the crust a little hard. The turkey was nicely done, not being dry in the least. Having basil instead of lettuce as the vegetable topping was a brilliant idea. One complaint, though, if I ask for the ranch dressing "on the side," that probably means I don't want mayo on the sandwich, either. At least ask before you go ahead and slather the mayo. That being said, the to-go order came with a nice little salad, which was a pleasant surprise.

Delicious food. Ian really knows his stuff. Painted a cheery yellow color and decorated with kids art work, this place is a great place to take your kids. A new baker is coming on the scene, so look for tasty sweets to go along with the wonderful food.

Sandwiches are great. They serve breakfast all day too. And they have a lot of options whether you eat meat or not, and they have gluten free options as well. Their pastries are a little pricey for the quality, but overall a pretty good place for breakfast and/or lunch.

This is an undiscovered, neighborhood treasure! Breakfast served all day. Light, flaky, old-fashioned biscuits. Terrific scrambles made to order. My partner and I love this place. It's not fancy, but the food is top-notch! Try it.

Good hearty dinery brunch. Excellent biscuits, plus hash, cheesy grits, and more. What else do you need? Strongly recommended for a weekday brunch meeting or hang-out-and-talk-chit-for-3-hours. You can pretty much get self-service coffee indefinitely.

  • Jason H.

Small, quaint diner with unique and exemplary menu items. They've even got vegan and Paleo options if that's your thing. The staff are timely and approachable, even during busy times. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. A great place for Saturday brunch if you're looking to avoid the PDX breakfast hype found elsewhere. I had the biscuit sandwich with egg, bacon, sautéed spinach and guacamole. It was expertly crafted. Perfectly cooked bacon, flavorful guac (especially for January) and amazingly moist biscuits. In fact, the biscuits really shine at Eclectic Kitchen; they're not too thick, they don't fall apart, and they're rich in flavor. Highly recommended!

One of the things I miss most about having to eat GF is biscuits. I had the GF biscuit breakfast sandwich here and it was wonderful. Unfortunately that isn't where my review ends. We went out of our way to go back the next time we were in Portland. I don't know if there was a major change over happening, but a managerial type seemed to be training a new wait person. I can cut them some slack for that. We ordered and I got my ice tea but it was vile. It was tainted with coffee. I took it up to the counter and let them know. The manager said he thought it tasted fine. Um... no. He told me that coffee and tea were made in the same containers so that is bound to happen. Again, not a good answer. There are people like me that are very sensitive to caffeine and can't have that contamination. He said he'd take the tea off my bill. Wow. That would be the least I would expect. I got a can of juice which of course I had to pay for. Our food came and it was not good. The biscuit was so hard I ended up eating around it. The cheese was not melted at all. The bacon was great, but it did not make up for the rest of the sandwich. After the lack of customer service I had already experienced, I did not bother to bring up my complaints this time. What would be the point? They obviously do not care. I am very unlikely to make a third trip.

I ordered the Half and Half - it's have of exactly what I like for breakfast. My wife ordered Biscuits and Gravy. The Gravy was so good we ordered more to pour over my house made breakfast potatoes!

  • Bullwinkle J.

Take note of the low star reviews and then disregard them entirely. They are all entirely false. As duke of this place, you can trust Bullwinkle's mighty moose palate. Ambiance/Decor: 3/5 The place has about 8-10 tables and a bunch of random paintings and stuff on the walls. Absolutely lacking in hipster aesthetic. The decor feels more like a home than a restaurant which is nice in a lot of ways. Mix-matched mugs as well. Kitchen: 5/5 Easily the best and most consistent breakfast I've had in Portland, and I've had a lot of breakfasts. These are far and above the best biscuits in the city. Biscuits and gravy? Yes. The best. French toast? Absolutely superb. The scrambles are simple, the flavors in tact and fresh - this is a refreshing break from the hyper-buttery scrambles you usually run into where the flavors are all rather ambiguous. The home fries are excellent and can be had with extra happenings. My current favorite item is the sausage/spinach/gravy/egg sandwich. Freakishly good. Note: this place does not serve Stumptown coffee! And thank god. If I wanted sour coffee-flavored water I'd go to any other breakfast place and be unhappy. They serve Trailhead Coffee which is actual coffee. Nice. Service: 3/5 Solid, consistent, nothing to write home about. I have never experienced "slow" service here and wonder what people mean by that. It should also be noted that there is never, ever, a line for brunch. This place is clearly not "hip" or "in" which is exactly what I want when I'm hungover and hungry. Waiting in line with annoying scenesters is torture - give me excellent food and little else. Give me Eclectic Kitchen. Also, this place is run by a family and everyone is extremely kind. Extra points if you're in when the lady is serving.

EK is officially in our top five Portland breakfasts. Incredibly delicious banana bread french toast with bacon for me and the 'half and half' (french toast AND eggs/sausage/etc) for my husband, matched with a very chill vibe, non-annoying music, good prices, and super super nice guy behind the counter and waiting tables? Awesome!! Can't wait to go back!

Now THAT was a great breakfast! This cute little spot is a sweet Portland find. I had their special, the Paleo Plate, and thoroughly enjoyed watching the chef put it together. That man's process is a dance, full of grace & artistry. The sunny-side-up eggs were perfect, the beets and kale delicious, the pulled pork was on point, and that little "paleo" biscuit (coconut flour?) was a perfect topper. And the onions on top? Now I know why NWers go nuts for Walla Walla onions. So flavorful! Their coffee was damn good too. I mean, it's drip for sure, but that's a solid cup of drip coffee. Oh, the place was pretty uninhabited, which meant that my food was in front of me 10mins after I ordered. Given that I waited until almost noon to eat, that was a huge plus. Only drawback is no wifi, but hey, there's a coffee shop right across the street ;) Stop in. You won't be disappointed.

No frills, no waiting. This is like going to a friends house for brunch. The kitchen is small with the same cooktop you would find in a college kids house. The menu is pretty good all around. Options for the veggie lover yet lots of bacon options as well. Breakfast items range from about $6-$10 and consist of scrambles, breakfast bowls and hash type items. It is a solid breakfast. I wasn't super impressed with the lunch options but I would recommend it for breakfast / brunch, especially if your looking to avoid the ridiculous Portland brunch lines.

I found this restaurant with Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. I had a roasted vegetable scramble with potatoes and a biscuit. The scramble was topped with incredibly tart and fresh goat cheese. It was amazing! Delicious and obviously made with fresh ingredients. The environment is cozy and I loved the self serve coffee and water. There was only one waiter so service wasn't fantastic but he met our needs. I would definitely go back if in the area again. I would give five stars if the staff were super warm and friendly. That would make this little diner fabulous!

The food and service here are both top notch. They prepare eggs to perfection. Their sweet dishes are fantastic, too. The grits are outstanding. The only reason I'm not giving Eclectic Kitchen 5 stars is that sometimes they are out of the dish I want, so that is disappointing, especially because the food is that good.

The name of the restaurant makes me chuckle because while it might be "eclectic" in the midwest or on the East coast, it's your standard subpar Portland breakfast joint. Mismatched coffee mugs? check. Self-serve coffee and water? check. Semi-clean atmosphere? check. Unisex bathroom with no toilet paper? check. Patron wearing Mala Prayer Beads reading about how to fix his life? check. One server for entire restaurant who talks & moves S-L-O-W? check. Trendy menu that looks great, but the taste does not match up? check and check. We stopped here because our favorite Alameda Cafe was closed (AGH!). We ordered two breakfast biscuit sandwiches and a fruit bowl. It took 40-minutes for our order on a Sunday at 9 (the restaurant was not full. Plenty of empty tables). The sandwiches were somehow both greasy and dry as well as WAY TOO SALTY. (And I like my salt). The size of the fruit plate was impressive ($4.25), but the apples were old, blueberries too sour to consume and the oranges were so old they were inedible. I would have rather had the standard overpriced grape, melon, banana mixture most restaurants serve). Overall, there are too many yummy places in pdx for us to eat at before we try this place again. Sorry!

Very well thought out ingredient choices- this place makes dishes that may otherwise be average elsewhere OUTSTANDING with their attention I detail. Menu claims ingredients are local, which makes me feel good about myself, and the food keeps calling me back! Excellent coffe for a bottomless cup, too!

UPDATE: I was hoping that things would change as far as atmosphere goes here. I mean, the food is definitely delicious. I still don't care for the self-serve coffee and water. But the decor needs a serious kick up to another level. It is loud, especially if there are noisy children or families. And the lighting looks strange, not inviting. And my biggest complaint still lingers -- no proper ventilation system. I always leave there smelling just like the greasy kitchen that just cooked my food. I'm trying to love it. I really am.

Enjoyed a delicious breakfast this past weekend! The biscuits are so tasty and soft. I had my egg sandwich with bacon, avocado, and guacamole. I tried a bite of my hubby's potatoes and those were really yummy too! There wasn't a wait, and we were able to sit outside with our dog!

A friend invited me to breakfast here, saying they have a "Paleo Bowl" for breakfast. Nuff' said. I found Eclectic Kitchen to be a nice, clean location in the heart of what is the NE Fremont neighborhood. The people working there were very nice and helpful when I asked them to describe (several times) what was in their Paleo Bowl. This was a delicious dish made with eggs and a melange of different roasted vegetables, and bacon. I understand the veg changes up with the seasons, which is pretty cool. Multiple options of hot sauces were available. Which is awesome. Yum! I'll be back.

Still sitting here after having finished our breakfast and felt compelled to write a review. My husband and I decided to venture and try new places to eat. Service was great, quick and friendly. I was doing car errands...not a normal thing for me...and my girlfriend and I were looking at places outside of the neighborhood we frequest- figure we'd try something new. We decided to drive a bit out of the way to Eclectic Kitchen for lunch, arriving at about 2:15. We walked in and the waiter informed us that they closed at 2pm. We noted that the website said 4pm...clearly they HAD closed, but we figured they should know that their main promotional tool was inaccurate. The waiter said, very matter-of-factly, "Yeah, our website is really outdated". It's not hard to update a website, and it's important to do so, especially when it's telling lies to would-be customers.

Limited menu but everything they did they did well. They get an extra star for their friendliness and the enormous selection of hot sauces. The Ranchero burrito was just what you would expect and we enjoyed a scramble as well. The highlight was definitely their amazing biscuits. I would definitely pick up a bunch of the to go variety next time i am in the neighborhood.

Delicious, easy, great service, healthy options, serve your own coffee (so never annoyingly without). We try to stick to brunch spots with only AMAZING reviews, so were skeptical to try this place at first... But the experience was five-star, so decided to review. Go, you won't regret it :)

Try it.

Nice to find a quiet, bright spot for breakfast with simple, quality food and good coffee at a fair price. Friendly owner, good eggs, potatoes and french toast. No fancy blah blah blah, not overrun by the brunch crowd. I'll be back.

Food was good but the service was poor. Order came out wrong, no sorry or anything, bare minimum interaction, walked out with no thank you or acknowledgement for our business. Was looking forward to trying this place out for the first time as we're local but we'll not be back.

  • Lois M.

My person is a big guy so he would have liked to have seen larger portion sizes but for me, 5'5 little person the serving size was just right. Service was friendly and quick.

Good food, nice environment but slow kitchen. My husband and I waited an hour for our two dishes to finally be served.

Fast and friendly service, I ordered the paleo bowl. It was full flavored, fresh and cooked perfectly. Can't wait to come back and try more!

Not the best place for breakfast in a hurry, but the food is always fresh and well prepared.
