As far as dives go, this place is pretty top notch. It's so top-notch, in fact, that I can't get the gall up to actually review it as a dive. It's too restaurant-y for me to call it a dive-dive. The tables and booths actually reminded me of a McMen's, but the menu was far better, in my opinion. Decently priced grub, although it would have been nice to have a lunch menu--$9 for a burger for dinner is great, but $9 for a lunch burger kind of irks me. Also, as JW so eloquently reminded me, since it's a SALOON, they obvs don't have a cocktail list. See? It seemed so restauranty to me that it was only second nature for me to ask for a cocktails menu. The server looked at me and huffed. Was that SO very offensive? Yikes. Good selection of brews, but it's Portland, so hey...they should have a good selection! One HUGE gripe was that it literally took an hour for our food to come after ordering. No joke. An hour. They were fast as lightening with the drinks, but SO slow with the food. And the burgers weren't awesome, although the TOTS made up for that in troves. Delish. And they split the check, even though it was pretty clear that our server REALLY didn't want to....

This place is considered a dive, really? I fail to comprehend why. Then again, I'm not always quick on the obvious. Maybe it wears a different hat during the noon hour as opposed to later in the evening. Like DK said, this place really resembled a McMens without the typical menu. One thing was for sure, East Bank had no problem mimicking that fabled slow service with uncanny accuracy. Were they out slaughtering our beef for the burgers? Nope, those babies seemed like pre-done frozen patties to me. While the addition of blue cheese and sauteed onions to my burger sounded like a fabulous idea, the whole thing left a meh-aftertaste. Everything was just luke warm, as if it had been sitting for awhile, or someone didn't know how to grill a burger [and come on, even I can grill a pretty awesome burger]. It resembled a a Burger King burger without the "flame-grilled" aftertaste. The redeeming factor was the tots. They were pretty taterlicious, but unfortunately that isn't anything to rave about. You can probably name other hot tot spots faster than I could steal that huge buffalo head off the wall. After what seemed like forever, lunch was had. Beer and cocktails were consumed. Yes, for lunch. On a Friday. It was Repeal Day, so you couldn't go without. I took work off for a reason, right? Maybe it's better to take in a sports game... PS - Parking sucks. Yes, yes it does.

The East Bank is one of Portland's longstanding sports bars and has updated itself with plasma TVs and no smoking (well, state law helped there). It has consistently great breakfasts served late into weekend afternoons. I like the chicken fried steak. Lunch and dinners, not as much but the prime beef dip is good. Always friendly service. Surprisingly uncrowded for most sports events, so a good bet when you want to catch the Blazers or a playoff game.

Not a bad place to chill with up-&-coming local artists and shabby chic bon vivants, the lower level even offers multiple environs to switch things around and an indie record/vintage shop that many vinyl freaks can appreciate.

Pretty good food here. I like their cheeseburgers, and their nachos are quite filling. The bar has a couple large HDTVs above it; prefect for watching the game. However, there's smokers here so prepare for a whiff of cigars at times. There's a sort of party room called the "buffalo room" that used to be an alleyway. Quite interesting.

I stopped in to try the acclaimed French Dip and while not the best I have had it was not bad either. I think it fell down with the au jus really. The service and atmosphere was pleasant and I asked the waitress what she liked and was recommend the hamburger, ah well next time. Fat Tire on tap which knocked it from a 3.5 to 4 star review in a heartbeat.

In 1975 the Boston Red Sox were defeated by Cincinnati in the World Series. It was their second trip to the World Series since the curse of the Bambino began in 1919. Had I been old enough at the time to drive across the Morrison Bridge in 1975, I would have noticed this vacant old building on the East side of the river, a brick mausoleum to past businesses that once occupied the site: a bank, a shoe store, a pharmacy, even a restaurant. Built in 1896 by Nathaniel West, the same man mostly responsible for the construction of the Morrison Bridge, the East Bank Saloon was resurrected in 1978. The same owners run the Saloon to this day. This bar is a mixture of the old and the new. Original brick still line the walls, antique lamps and chairs fill both bar and restaurant. Yet the East Bank maintains this old world character while also existing as one of the best sports bars in towns. In 2003 the Red Sox made it back into the American League Championship Series. Their hopes of reversing the curse were dashed in game 7 of that year. When their last out was made, I watched a young man, perhaps of Boston decent, slam his fist into one of the brick walls out of sheer agony for the loss of his team, breaking his hand in the process. In 2004 I happened into the East Bank for Game 4 of the World Series. There again was this same young man, and on this night that same fist was clenched around a bottle of Bud while screaming and high-fiving everyone in the bar, including myself. The curse was lifted as the Red Sox won the series that night. While watching the celebration in Boston on the television, and the celebration that surrounded me, I felt neither one way nor the other about the winner and the loser of that series. I simply sat in my booth by the window watching the cars pass down Grand Avenue. I wondered to myself, if Lovejoy had won that coin toss back in 1843 instead of Pettygrove, and this town has been given the name of Boston instead of Portland, would I have been more excited for the Red Sox on that October evening? distilledpublishing.blog…

I fell in love with East Bank after eating their French Dip sandwich. It truly is the ultimate comfort food that so many restaurants screw up...but at East Bank it's absolute perfection. That thinly sliced beef that is always tender, that soft bread that is lightly toasted, and that perfectly seasoned Au jus that is warm on your tongue....mmmm....served with thick-cut fries I believe I am in heaven! Sure, the place is a bit run down and Yep, it's filled with smokers, but who can resist a place that serves a really good French Dip!

I liked it on a Sunday afternoon. Neat place with friendly people. Video lottery and good beer. We will come back with friends. Great place to hang out.

WOW! Never thought I'd see this in a million years, but I was actually in there today and saw a full on screaming match in the front door between two women. It was ugly to put it lightly. I looked at the woman sitting right beside me at the bar who looked like she wanted to jump in her beer and after listening to it all go down, learned that it was the owner and a waitress who works there....I had come to meet a friend for happy hour where I heard the sliders were something else! Ok, not hungry after that! It's one thing to get into it at work like we all can relate, especially toward a weekend, however, it's a completely another thing to see this happen by the company itself, in the front entryway of the restaurant!!! I'm scared to go back, in case it's me caught by the door next time... No thanks!

The food and service are great here. This is a terrific place to start or end your evening since there isn't really anything to do except chat and chow. The building was built in 1896 with original wood work still intact. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night which makes me sad. I'm thinking about petitioning for pool tables to be included in the center room. But then again maybe I am delusional in thinking that most people want this just because I do. Oh and for a tip on what to order: the aj jus sauce is the best I have ever had but the Philly cheese steak sandwich is like a french dip but with cheese and peppers and onions so order the aj jus on the side with that. Yum! My boyfriend wants to mention that the Green Lakes beer is "so good". So there!

This place is awesome. One of the most laidback bars on the eastside, the Eastbank is my secret hangout. Good beers on tap and all of the servers are super chill and friendly, especially Nicole and Katelyn(sp?). Also, if you're in the neighhood and don't want to deal with the massive lines and slow service at My Father's Place, this is a great place to grab breakfast. Last time I went they even had vegetarian biscuits and gravy - how often do you see that?

Went here a couple of weeks ago, while doing errands with the BF. We looked it up on Yelp, and decided to give it a try for lunch (and I figured the burgers had to be pretty good). I was right! My cheeseburger was delicious, and the BF loved his club sandwich with tator tots. Our waitress was really sweet and the food came out quick, because they weren't busy at all. It looks like this place has gotten a lot of mixed reviews, but we had a great lunch, so I'd definitely go back.

To be perfect honest, I only come here for the SundaePDX patio parties that they help host. Those limited experiences give me some perspective on how this place operates. You see, it's all well and good to rate an establishment on a slow day but when a place is under the pressure of a couple hundred patrons you can see their true colors. In this respect, the East Bank Saloon has never disappointed me. Sure, the line for drinks can get a little long at times and I would complain about it but they've taken steps to remedy the problem. That's right, they noticed that people were getting upset at a few events and decided to open up a patio bar to help stymie the rush of drunken fools in upcoming parties. Also, if you have cash then there is an express line of sorts at the end of the bar, so getting drinks it really isn't that painful unless you're shortsighted and only bring plastic. Lastly, they are considerate enough to set up water coolers for these busy events so you don't have to stand in line to get re-hydrated. This is something I really appreciate because a plentiful supply of water is absolutely essential at mid summer parties. Now as for the venue itself, everything is a little rough around the edges and though give the place some old world charm there is room for improvement. As example of things that don't work well, the restrooms could use an overhaul and an expansion. I also think they should ditch the video gambling machines sitting near the front entrance. Such efforts would go a long way in classing up the joint. Overall this place has been fun on the days that I've visited and as the SundaePDX parties get more popular they have been prudent in keeping a line at the door and the crowd inside from getting too big. As much as I dislike waiting in line, I appreciate that I am not getting trampled by a horde of people when I just want to listen to some good music. They really should implement a stamp policy though, to help cut down on the confusion of people going in and out. The short of it is that I'll keep coming back for events like SundaePDX because I've always had a good time but I don't see myself headed here for anything else. I might if I had heard stellar things about their food but I haven't so for now this bar is just going to be an occasional fling for me.

This is a great place to hang out this summer! The staff was friendly, and we received great service. the food we ordered was AWESOME, as were the drinks and beers we had. (Perfectly mixed drinks, and great selection of beers on tap.) We thought that the atmosphere was really cool ... an old historic building with exposed brick on the inside ... a large spacious interior. (Good location, too, at the east end of the Morrison Bridge.) Lots of neat sports momentos and memorabilia throughout, as well as cool old pics of Oregon loggers, etc.. Fun to look around! : ) They also have a nice patio out back that has a "deluxe" fire pit, which was cool! Will definitely recommend this place to all of our family and friends (and you should, too!!! : ) ) !!!!

Slightly overpriced pub grub and really slow food service, but nice atmosphere. Don't order lunch there if you're in a hurry or about to drop dead of hunger, it'll take a while. The waitress was friendly and the place was laid back.

Love this place. The staff are some of the best in Portland. Amazing bloody Mary's and maybe the best Mac & cheese in town. It's a great place to watch the game or hang out in their large patio.

Located in a hysterical (sic) building, constructed in 1896, the location has been home to numerous businesses over the years, prior to the current owners establishing the eatery in 1978. Mrs. Burgerdogboy had scored a Groupon for 2 burgers and 2 beers for $15, so after an afternoon of her biz errands, we landed in the bar about 3P, which is, coincidentally, the start of their lengthy and generous happy hour. Mrs. B scored a couple of IPAs to accompany her "Hawaiian style" burger, a beef patty with bbq sauce and grilled pineapple. I went with the Blue Cheese, which was topped with caramelized, marinaded onions, and opted for a side of deep-fried tots. Since Mrs. B rarely has a burger, and I rarely drink, it was turnabout day, and I chased my meat with a PBR. Yeah, I know Portlandians might think a PBR doesn't qualify as a beer, but I went to high school with a Pabst kid, so there ya go. The joint wasn't very busy, so service was great, the the server/bartender was friendly, helpful, and H-O-T. We finished the afternoon with another brew, moving out to the rear outdoor deck (they also have tables on the sidewalk, in front, as well). Overall, it was a good experience. Always made better when I don't have to pay! Lots of TVs and sports memorabilia for those of you interested in that sort of thing. Olympics were on....women's wrestling. ..... rrrrrrrrrrr.

I came here on a Sunday. I didn't know what to expect. The fiancé asked if I wanted to meet him here. I said sure. It was a nice, sunny day. The house was cleaned up. I had nothing to do. Why not? I decided to walk to the place from the waterfront. I figured, I'll chill out on the waterfront, indulge on an iced coffee and a book then head over. Good plan. The walk across the Morrison Bridge was nice. Locating the place was easy. The interior is nice. I like dark woods and panels. There is a sitting/restaurant area and a bar area. Both are opened to the other and then in the back is an outdoor patio. For a Sunday, I was surprised at how busy the bar was. Obviously the sweetheart knew what was going on even if I didn't. Turns out, it was SundaePDX. There was a DJ playing tunes (DJ Wicked was on the line-up and I haven't seen him play live in years. I was reminded why I like him so much. The man can drop tunes for sure.) Service is prompt and efficient. Drinks were cheap and delicious. I love me a refreshing gin and tonic and this place definitely hooks it up. The patio was a lot smaller than I thought or maybe there was just more people than I anticipated, whatever the case, it was full and why not, there was a freakin' dance off going on. SO MUCH FUN!!!!! There were b-boys and b-girls doing all sorts of tricks and dance moves. Everyone was having a grand ole time. We had so much fun. It was an all around great time, getting down to some old school hip hop, singing to hits that remind me of high school, and dancing. The food looked good and smelled good. I was going to order some food. I overheard someone comment on how tasty the steak dog was and I spotted another person enjoying a plate of pulled pork tacos. AND they were giving away free sundaes. You can't beat free icecream on a hot, summer day.

What a horrible place with terrible food and service!! I ordered chicken taco salad. 45 minutes later I asked where it was. Waitress and cook have very animated discussion about "what had happened was". 10 min later I am delivered chicken tacos. Oops waiteress says, cook made these instead of a salad, do you want these while he makes salad? I decline. 10 min later taco salad shows up looking very much like nachos made on top of a handful of salad. Waaaaay too much refried beans and why the hell are there refried beans on my salad? Tried to complain to bartender who was an absolute stark raving lunatic with fake red hair (maybe weave too tight)! I was talking to some other customers about their food too and they all gave it thumbs down. One lady said her cucumber was frozen. Red headed numbskull waitress/bartender tries to convince her and me that its a new health code because their last health code inspection said cooler wasn't cold enough. Other lady at same table said her croissant was old and dry. Next time I am forced to show up here for a meeting I will not be spending any money on food or drinks.

Another sad place we came across in the same week. We were just driving by and wanted a drink and a bite to eat. Are server was not to bad, but the rest of the experience sucked. My fiance ordered the steak sandwich and I ordered the crab mac. The waitress comes back 10 minutes later to say they do not have anymore steak, so he changed it to a Reuben. 15 minutes passes after is second order and the waitress comes back and says they are out of sauerkraut. At this point we are really just over the place. So he gets the crab sandwich and after 15 more minutes we ask for it to go because we're done. We get home and I just got a poor excuse for mac and cheese with no crab and he had a mayo sandwich with crab. The crab was swimming in mayo and it had no flavor besides that. Another loss here, but there are many more places to try. :D

Friday September 20 7:20pm. I wanted to get a beer with the wife before an event. I ordered a PBR. Beer wasn't ice cold but acceptable. Beer on tap is extensive. I ordered a patty melt. Almost no onions. Small overcooked patty. BURNT RYE BREAD??!! Fries were decent. I was hoping for so much more. Meh ):

Came in Saturday night around 10:30 because dig a pony was too loud and crowded. There was no one in sight. No customers. No employees. A bartender came out when he heard us talking and I ordered a house IPA and headed to the patio out back where the only customers were. Thing is, there were at least as many mice as there were people. They have a serious infestation - dozens of mice running around the patio. Went back and forth between curious and disgusted until we finished our beers and bailed. No thanks, Stuart Little.

Been here for over an hour. Nobody has even stopped by our table to see if we need anything. Bartender wants us to wait for the (one) server to take beet and food orders. Terrible even if they're understaffed today. Walking down the street to Slowbar.

If you want to watch a game during the afternoon and have a burger and a beer in a saloon then this is your place. It was funny, fantastic for food, drink, and the antics of the servers and cooks. The game was good too.

My friend Jaime L. had a Groupon for East Bank so she invited my friend Christina L. and myself to dinner the other night so she could use it before it expired. I had never been here before, but it didn't take a lot of arm twisting to talk me into a burger. Jaime and I both got burgers and tots, which were decent. Simple, no frills burgers, cooked to order aside a mound of crunchy tots. It was one of those really simple, basic meals that just hit the spot. Christina got an order of the Halibut fish bites, which she said were good also. The food was average fare you could find at any bar, but the fourth star is earned by the back patio. There was plenty of seating for several large and small tables, making it a great place to enjoy a warm evening with a few cold beers and a burger.

This is a review of a place that I would probably not have gone if it weren't for the event. A. I don't eat meat. B. I'm not that into sports, except the kind they don't have an abundance of here, i.e., major league hockey (and yes, I love the Winterhawks BTW). But this place reminded me of home (where is home? a large mid/easterly coast city with LOTS of brick building c. 1800s and fire escapes). So, this place made was very homey to me with the exposed brick walls, wood everywhere, and a big wooden bear at the entrance...I love that sort of thing! The service was excellent. The lovely bartendress last night was very accommodating (there were 2 female wait staff that I could recall, both cute & friendly). I've gotten so used to attitude and weirdness via female wait staff in this town that I forgot what it was like to just have normal service from them.... Moving on, the back patio was also VERY cool. The view, the fire on broken glass at the table I sat was perfect since last night was a little cool. If I WAS a meateater, I probably would have said good things about the food because everyone else did. I guess I wish they did have a fewer more vegetarian items on the menu, but it is what it is and I'm not so self-important as to think everyone should cater to my lifestyle choices. Anyhow, beer is perfectly vegetarian;-) and I was certainly happy with that.

I didn't spend enough time here to give this place a proper review. I also thought this place was a different place as in my minds eye I thought it was the Side Door (same neighborhood). I walked into the Side Door expecting to see the person I was meeting at the bar drinking a beer (she texted to tell me she was there) but after not seeing her I walked out only to realize I was in the wrong place. Whew. That is a long story for not a great payoff. Moving on. When I finally reached the East Bank Saloon (pretty much around the corner from the Side Door so I'm not going completely senile) I found my friend, had a seat at the bar and was immediately greeted by the bartender asking what I would like. That is prompt service my friends. A nice selection of taps included New Cascadia's IPA and Alameda's Black Bear Stout of which I had both. Not at the same time though. Anyway, I was here more for the conversation and because I figured it was a good place to meet someone who doesn't quite know Portland all that well yet, but knows this area a bit as she works in this part of town. Good on both of those. I saw their hamburger. It looked Ok. I've seen better. Maybe I'll give the food here a try if I make it back. Maybe not.

I remember going to East Bank when it was the kickball sponsor bar years ago and loving it. I was put in charge of finding a happy hour spot for our company's summer party. I reached out East Bank and talked to Erika (hope I spelled her name correctly). She was awesome from day one. So accommodating and helped with the planning. Loved working with her. Once we got to East Bank Erika and the girls working with her (sorry I didn't catch their names) were move than accommodating. Even with us changing plans from what Erika and I had originally chatted about. They were so nice and friendly and made us all feel welcomed. Even towards the end I met one of the owners who was super friendly. Thanks East Bank for helping make our summer party a success!

Say "East Bank" five times as fast as you can. Bam. 5 stars: In the dive bar world, it's tough to beat a bar with a fantastic beer selection, decent happy hour, and hidden sexual undertones in their name. Spankys...er...uh...East Bank is the picture of divey perfection.

Usually I give a long, drawn out review. But I'll make this short and sweet. We had heard good things about this place, and had a coupon from the local Entertainment book, so we thought we'd check it out before a local show we would be attending two Saturday nights ago. First, both of us really felt looking at the menu as if there was a good chance the menu items are rarely, if ever, rotated. We were confused why the pulled pork sandwich shown as a special on the board when walking in was $0.50 more than the everyday price shown on the menu! Now for the breakdown: Southwest Salad--Strange. Chicken had no flavor. Very odd to have Mandarin oranges in a Southwest Salad. If it wasn't for the salsa, the salad would have no flavor. Two thumbs down. Fish and Chips (Fries)--Fish was super delicious. No complaints. Fries were standard bar fries. Side Salad--Weak Server--Pitiful. Slow. Had to ask if I could get the side salad which came with dinner. Specifically asked if I could get it before the food arrived. Well, I did, literally 60 seconds before the food arrived because the server forgot. Will someone please, please tell this girl how to pour a glass of beer. Yes, beer should have a little head on it, especially dark beers . . . but for crying out loud, it was half full of head. Yes, Ms. First Time Beer Pour, some beers require you to spoon off the thick head and take some time to put more beer into the glass and then repeat. It's also not OK to come back to the customer's table with a disgusted look and say, "That's as good as I could get it," especially when we had only asked for a spoon. We waited over twenty minutes after asking for a water refill to get some more water! It seemed pretty clear to us this place was 96% about the bar and very little about the restaurant portion. If the owner reads this, the biggest thing I could suggest is train your servers and demand quality, even in your absence. We liked the way the place looked and could have moved pass the food for another visit, but coupled with terrible service, OK food won't draw repeat customers.

Got my Blazers on here the other night and it was a'ight. They were cool to allow us to hog the main hall with our party of, gosh, there must've been like 120 of us. (Well, we were a big party...) Anyway, there were at least three servers hovering over our tables fairly frequently, always inquiring if we needed more booze. One thing I was not too happy about is the absence of anything remotely 'healthy' in their menu. I couldn't find a cheese or vegetable plate to save my life. They probably would've obliged had I simply asked them to create one for me. There were salads, but I really wasn't feeling a salad. in fact, I just wanted a light snack. I publicly lamented the poor 'healthy' selection and one of my table-mates (who shall remain nameless) plainly said something to the effect of: "You're in a pub. What'd you expect?" In the end, I ordered a Patty Melt. I know, a far cry from anything healthy. But I did forgo the fries or tater tots and opted for cup of cole slaw. (I felt healthier already.) The food tasted good enough. Then again, I was hungry. Overall, it's a nice spot for some decent pub fare and to catch games on the dozen or so screens interspersed among the many sections of the Saloon. I'll be back.

So, it's still 4-stars, but I wanted to add a couple of thoughts since we went to see another Blazers game here. We sampled some non-Happy Hour items. We started with the cajun-spiced tater tots which were good, but a little salty. Not much spice to it. Really needed the ranch dressing for flavor. I think I like the plain ones better. For the main event I had to go with the burger Olivia raved about in our East Bank conversations. Let me tell you, the Hot Mama was hot, hot, hot! Seriously! I substituted cheddar cheese for the pepperjack and it was still really hot. And it was oh, so yummy despite the heat. The fries that came with it were good, but not as good as the HH bacon cheese fries (only a HH item). They have a couple of beers on special during the game - two different pints for $3.50 each. The service was great again. We had a big group, so the waitress started splitting the checks from the very beginning. She even helped out the people who had coupons so they could get their discount calculated correctly. She kept my RC refills coming so I could wash down the Hot Mama. (Actually I only ate half. I just finished the other half with some of the leftover fries... still hot the second day... but yummy, too!) Second half was dessert time! The chocolate fudge cake was really rich and could really use ice cream to balance it out. The whipped cream did help, and it was still really yummy! Tasted the cheesecake and it was pretty rich, too, but still yummy. The apple caramel dessert thing-y came with ice cream and looked huge! Oh, another discovery: they have a small parking lot under the Morrison Bridge. It was free and very handy. That's all for now!

We asked to see a drink menu, the server said "oh, you want to see the fancy drinks". My friend and I ordered a "fancy" drink, then the server came back and told us the bartender claims they are shitty drinks. So I decided on my fall back, Tanqueray and tonic. I asked for two limes and light tonic cause I like to taste my drink. It came with one lime and tasted like tonic. After about 20 min she finally checked on us and I asked for another shot of Tanqueray (which i'm willing to pay and tip for a stiff drink) and the second lime. She brought me a shot of WELL GIN and charged me for the tanq. Im a bartender, I dont ask for much, but I can tell when someone is trying to pull a fast one with the F.U. Attitude. Im sure this place is fine if you just want a cheap beer, but her attitude was unnecessary. We tried to be friendly, but heaven forbid you order a "fancy drink" because you want something you like to drink.

Their veggie burger was really really meh. Like the meh-iest of the mehs. BUT their tater tots were tasty and came with ranch without me having to beg and plead. My drink was serviceable and so was the service. Atmosphere: ZOMG sports! I could see from my position four different types of sports on television. This is the place to go for the sports-lover, I tell you what. I am not a sports lover but I was with three of them so the conversation quickly became very boring for me. ANYway, other than that, it was a tad too brightly-lit for my taste, and there were a few rapscallions wandering about that made me feel ever-so-slightly unsafe. Blame it on the sobriety.

Certainly an interesting McMenamins, the availablity of shuffleboard is all the reason I need to come back.

This bar is probably the most average out of all the bars I usually frequent on Grand Ave. It's never my first choice to visit but I will show up if peeps want to meet up for a drink. The service is pretty mediocore from alright to slow at times. The food will not blow anyone away and probably best just to get drinks here before venturing out. It's an alright start if one were to do an epic bar crawl alongside Grand Ave as I have participated in the past.

The food is just fine, and the atmosphere really is perfect for settling in and hanging out. An ancient place that sinks into you if you sit calmly enough to allow it. Big bonus for me was hanging out and watching an NBA game where there was just enough chat, and just enough quiet to balance one another. This is the grand old man of Portland in many ways. Does Pudgy Hunt still own the place? I'll tell ya this much, sitting at the bar and talking hoops is never better executed than here. You wanna BS with somebody who KNOWS the game? Come here. Cryin' out loud, I met a guy who knew Slim Wintermute's first name (Urgel). Beer here? Holy water.

This is basically a "you get what you pay for" type of place. Went with the BF the last Saturday, I ordered half a soup and sand (wasn't too bad but nothing to write home about). BF had the steak he said it was awful and rubbery. I guess what do you expect for 10 bucks? Drinks weren't too bad though and atmophere was ok. It's ok for a dive bar. Would go in for drinks only next time.

The service was a little slow to start, but after that it was really prompt and pleasant. The burgers were so delicious. I also liked that I could get tator tots rather than fries. Beer on tap and a nice clean atmosphere. I would return for a burger and a beer for sure.

Nice atmosphere. Friendly, attentive service. Food was good, drinks were well made. Glad we stopped here for supper. I would go back if I was in the area.

Sat down on a Sunday at noon. Table was dirty, menu was dirty and server came up to say there were 3 tables ahead of us and she was working alone. She turned and left. Bummer, we left also.

Came here a few times when ive been in the area and always had a good meal and a beer. Went again today and parked in their free parking lot and came in out of the rain to enjoy some lunch. My girlfriend and I both ordered burger which the waitress whole-heartedly suggested and they were AMAZING!!!! Fries and Tots were perfectly fried and served hot an plentiful. Burgers had proper proportions of fixins stacked high on the fresh onion bun. All quality ingredients put together with love by the cook in the back who could be seen from our table. You could see from where we were that he took great pride in the food that he sent out. Several customers around us seemed engaged in their meals too as they stuffed their faces :)

Once in the women's bathroom here I overheard a woman tell her husband on the phone about how her girls night out was going long and she wouldn't be home for a while (she was in the stall, I was at the sink.) She came out, looked at me guiltily (like I care?) and the next time I saw her she was grinding on some guy in a booth. Why do I mention this story? Because in the three or four times I've been to East Bank this has actually been the most interesting thing that's happened. East Bank isn't a bad place, I guess it's more that I find it a little sterile and boring, kind of like a hotel bar in a previously upscale spot that was renovated in the late 80s. Not a bad place to watch games (side room) and the service has been pretty good every time. Again, just nothing remarkable. Then again, clearly East Side inspires at least *some* folks to salacious behavior, so maybe I judge too soon...

Cute decor, nice staff, decent beer selection, and the tots were pretty tasty. But I guess we should have known better than to order chicken and halibut burgers; both were very dry. Maybe if we had stuck to traditional burgers we would've been okay. The pulled pork smoking on the outside grill also smells pretty good.

I was at the East Bank Saloon for their annual Superbowl Party this year and it was a lot of fun. All the crab and clams you can eat plus tacos, hot dogs, coleslaw and cheesecake. The event is held upstairs in a private room with the game projected on a big screen. Most of the people have been coming to the event for a long time but they make you feel welcome.

I have a story to tell about the East Bank Saloon. I had a post on here as a follow up which was not very favorable to this establishment. I talked about being served an item on the menu that was listed as vegetarian but actually contained lard. I informed them at the time that they can't do that and talked about how something like that could set them up for a lawsuit from a hardcore veg head. I in no way implied that the hypothetical veg head was me. So I go back... ok more than once, and on several occasions, ate the item in question. While I was there one day enjoying my lard-laden delicacy, my table was descended upon by a person I had never even seen before, who was just waiting with attitude for me to say the wrong thing. As she served my food, she told me that if I was going to continue to eat there I needed to take down my less-than-favorable Yelp post. Wow! I was absolutely shocked that she would even have the nerve to do that, and in my resultant lack of wit, I was unable to formulate a crushing response that would allow me to remain civil, or that might provoke her into unleashing her fury . I had no idea what to say to her except, "OK". It was quite intimidating, to be sure. Will I ever go back to the East Bank Saloon? Not likely. Why, you ask? Well it's all a matter of trust now, isn't it?

I was thinking about how many stars I should give East Bank Saloon. Fortunately, the three star description here on Yelp perfectly described my experience: "A-OK." See, I'm not going to say the East Bank Saloon was a bad place. Because it wasn't. But I'm not going to say it was truly excellent either. The East Bank Saloon is a place. To get food. To go into further detail, there was some good and some bad. But, back again at what I was originally going after, neither the good or bad was particularly good or bad. Maybe I'm just indecisive. In any case, the food was OK. I got a BLT; a very safe choice for a new place. It was alright. I will say it was nice to have a fine deal of bacon on there. I went with some people to watch the soccer game that was playing. The TV was nice and fairly big. That was cool. The guy that served us was helpful. Nice. We did have to wait a fairly long time to get our food because there was "a large order placed right before ours." Ah well, so it goes. So there it is! I really thought East Bank Saloon was A-OK. Wasn't awesome, wasn't bad, just A-OK.

I'm going to let you know a secret...about my favorite place to watch Portland Trailblazers in action. The place is East Bank Saloon. The opening grub is Spinach dip ragu which is dumpling filled with spinach dip with aside of sweet and spicy sauce and also a portion of hot wings. The main grub for me is Hot Mama (Cheeseburger with jalapenos). It's really really hot! The main grub for my DL is their giant Nachos with extra cheese. We consumed two beers and a Malibu Pineapple to wash down all those yummy grubs and the price is right, after $25 off $35 gift certificate that I got from Restaurant.com , my total bill was $16 and some change. Blazers, cheap food and drinks, comfy atmosphere, what else can I ask for a perfect night?

You know I can't resist a good Simpsons quote. You've probably met me once and figured that out really quickly. So when I entered the East Bank Saloon and, underneath a neon Budweiser sign, spied a photo of Slick Willy taken some time before he became the forty-second president (you can tell because young Bill sported quite a gut before the Secret Service was around to jog with him and the plaid shirt he wears would never be okayed by his advisors), the first words out of my mouth were, "I am Clin-ton. As overlord, all will kneel trembling before me and obey my brutal command. End communication." The group I was with sat at the table, remarked at the brick walls and high ceilings, and remained impervious to my Simpsons geekitude. It was just as well. The server gave us a fair run-down of the HH specials (basically, she was honest when she named the one beer on any kind of discounted price) and came back shortly after we couldn't decide what food to order. She also left a pitcher of water for us because we mentioned that more friends might show up. Once the basketball game began, the volume was raised, more people joined us at the table, and the server promptly stopped by when the beer level receded closer to the floor of each pitcher. I ate something called Tempura Zucchini, which was hardly a tempura but very much zucchini in a deep-fried batter. The server disappeared for bit as we waited for the check but pretty handily divided up the tab by each person without a hassle. I can only guess that she was twirling, twirling, twirling towards freedom during her absence.
