We were in the mood for spicy Thai food and chose E-San based on Yelp reviews and the Portland Happy Hour Guidebook. We arrived at 4pm on a Monday night and were the ONLY ones in the entire place (besides the minimal staff). We sat in the bar area to take advantage of the HH food & drink specials. There was music playing throughout the restaurant (lots of birds chirping) so they had the sound turned off on the two flat screen TVs over the bar. They had a good selection of draft beers (10 taps?) for $4 pint. Our waitress took our cue when we said we wanted to enjoy our beer for awhile before ordering any food. She kept an eye on us but did not hover and came to check on us at the appropriate time. To start, we ordered the eggrolls ($2.50 for 2), wontons ($2.50 for about 6), and Thai beef salad ($4). The fried items were good if a little greasy. The beef salad was a generous portion and tasted great but I ordered it medium spicy and it still made my nose run and felt like my mouth was on fire (and I like spicy food!). From the HH entree menu we ordered pad thai & massaman curry. Again, portions were good for the price $4-5 each). We ordered the pad thai medium spicy but it wasn't nearly as spicy as the beef salad. We ordered the curry mild and it was hardly spicy at all. Despite that minor inconsistency, I would come back here when I need a Thai fix to take advantage of the HH food specials. Our bill for 4 pints of beer and 5 dishes was only $31.

There are about 8 Thai carts on this same block, but E-San is by far the best. Do not waste your time elsewhere.

Discouraged by crowds waiting outside the more popular restaurants after attending Portland's annual tree lighting at Pioneer Courthouse Square, we walked a few blocks to E-San and had a pretty nice dinner. Since Thai restaurants are virtually ubiquitous in Portland and Seattle these days, there isn't much to say about the food. It came fast, in large quantities and was above average. Recommended!

Love this place for their Pad-Thai! It is amazing, but make sure to get it for lunch. I ate there for dinner and it was not as great. The servers are attentive, but if it's busy (like during the lunch hour) it can be a bit slow. Their food is worth the wait, though! Even though I moved out of downtown and don't work down there anymore, I still enjoy making the traffic-filled trek knowing I will get some of that yummy pad-thai!

I somehow got old and stopped being able to eat spicy food (so why do I keep eating st these Thai restaurants?) Inevitably the serve me spicy food (don't they know that this is artificial yellow food coloring and I'm not really Asian?) Well not today at E-San. A large group of us went to lunch today. A few people complained that their food was not as spicy as they requested and others said a but now than they requested. Guess it's easy when you say no spice, none at all. They also serve up a large portion for lunch. At least 1.5 meals. It's around $7.5 to $9 depending on the kind of meat you order for their lunch specials. There wasn't a mandatory gratuity and they were able to accommodate a large party without notice. If you sit in the back, they do tend to forget about you a little, but the do come check on you every once in a while. Good place for a group lunch at the spur of the moment.

Hunger wakes our protagonist, Ryan N., from his cubicle stupor. Bored with the same-ol'-same-ol' lunch options he boldly takes action. "Need Thai" he thinks. Our hero, empowered with his decision, begins furiously pecking at his keyboard. {types} "www.e-santhai.com" {clicks} "Lunch" {clicks} " L2. Gang Garee" {clicks} "Next" {clicks} "Chicken, Extra Extra Hot" {clicks} "Next" {types} "Ryan N." "(503)867-5309" {clicks} "Next" {clicks} Place Order Ryan N. reclines in his swivel chair feeling very proud himself. He begins to sharpen his favorite number two pencil, however, is interrupted by the incessant vibrating of his cell phone. "Uh, Hello?" "This is E-San confirming your order, Is this Ryan, N?" "Why Yes, it is." "Please pick it up in twenty minutes" This was easy. Perhaps a little too easy for his comfort. Upon entering E-San Ryan N is surrounded by happy lunch goers and an aromatic goodness that made him wish he had not ordered his food "to-go". But this was his own tough luck and he would have to take his Gang Garee back to his cube. Back at the office he is greeted with a half sharpened number two pencil and a stack of work. The curry is excellent and its flavors come alive in his mouth. It is good. Real good. He begins daydreaming and wondering "What shall I write about E-San when I review it on Yelp? Should I mention the fresh ingredients? The crunchy peppers? The wonderfully huge carrots and potatoes? That it is better Thai than most downtown? The convenience of the web take-out system? That it was docked a star for not being "extra extra spicy"? Ah, I don't know." His mind started to drift as he noticed his trusty number two just sitting there, begging for a sharpening. He obliged, admired his handy work, and fell back into his cubicle stupor.

Pretttty average. Plenty of seating for lunch. You should never have to wait for a table. That's nice. not super cheap.

These guys nailed it, awesome Tom Yum Goong soup! I also had the Pad Phet stir fry with chicken, it was very good! I've eaten a lot of Thai food and taken Thai cooking classes in Bangkok and Seattle, these guys do it right.

We were confused about where to get food before we went for a walk around the water front. We tried ping, closed. Yelp suggested e-San. It turned out to be a great suggestion. The service is great, very kind and attentive, promptly bringing out the right plates for sharing the dishes. The Thai fish cakes (traditional an tasty) and Crispy Rice Chicken (nice "al dente" crunch and lots of peanuts) were great. If we had thought about it we would have asked for one notch spicer than default. Sharing an appetizer and main dish between two was a perfect start of the walk. We will be back to dig into the rest of the menu!

E-San is my favorite sit-down Thai restaurant in downtown Portland. I go there for fun and business meetings. The Pad Prik King is absolutely delicious and I can't get enough of it. The restaurant itself is really conveniently located off the MAX line, and has a good vibe with multiple levels and friendly staff. Last time I was there the food came really fast and the waiter, on noticing my surprise, said "you guys looked hungry so we figured we would make it quick!"

I'm afraid that I have to break the 4 and 5 stars chain here. I used to take my guests here for good Thai food, but my recent visit has failed me. Yes, it's still very busy during lunch time but that makes sense since it locates conveniently in downtown Portland - a perfect place for lunch for folks who work in the area to meet up with friends or clients. My favorite items on their menu were Pad-kee-mao, pineapple fried rice and tom-yum soup. Pad-kee-mao was not so good anymore, the flavor was there but not as good. I wanted my noodle to be medium spicy but it barely made it to mild. The noodles weren't mixed well enough, majority of them was sticked together thus the flavor weren't there evenly. Pineapple was pretty good but it was very greasy. The soup was a bit salty and the vegetables were over-cooked. Also the portion seems smaller to me, but that should be a minor thing. I like this place enough that I will come back to see if they get any better. Hopefully it was just a temporary due to the busy luncheon hours. Though that shouldn't be an excuse because they should be consistent. Note: This place is so crazy at lunch hours, yet very quiet during dinner time. The atmosphere is definitely different. Very interesting! I wouldn't come here for dinner for sure.

We came to E-San for a friend's birthday party and remembered why it's been years since I've been back. The food was not memorable and was actually a little on the bland side. I ordered the seafood special that had calamari, shrimp, scallops, imitation crab, etc. that was ordered as medium spicy but ended up not being spicy at all and simply tasted like oyster sauce. I could have ordered a similar dish at a Chinese restaurant and it would have been cheaper and tastier, IMHO. The pad thai that my husband ordered also was lacking in flavor and although he ordered it mild it was even more spicy than my seafood dish. The thai tea was also super sweet but it wasn't bad. My husband liked their large selection of beers. Overall, it was a fun atmosphere and our servers were nice, but I don't think I'll be back for food.

e-san thai is some of the best thai food i've had stateside, anywhere. i'd like to go ahead and say that i prefer it over pok-pok. i've lived in thailand before and this food was pretty close to what you get in thailand, i'm mostly a curry and tom-yum type of girl and this food really hits the spot. its a pleasant dining experience and great for take out. if you're looking for something comparable, more casual, and slightly cheaper in SW, try baan thai near PSU- watch out, they're s%@# is spicy!

Went here based on the reviews and the fact that I love Thai food. The food was okay-it had a homemade taste to it. I made pad thai once and it tasted exactly like theirs (so either mine is really good or theirs is really bad, lol). I had an okay experience here. Nothing to rant or rave about.

its good! We really enjoy the food here and on everyonce in a while we'll enjoy the bar area. We often get the food to go. Love most everything on the menu and staff is friendly for the most part. Prices are pretty fair.

I would just like to say, this is my 100th review :] This is a nice, casual thai restaurant. The food was great - nothing ground breaking. The service was fast, friendly, and she was very knowledgable. I tend to judge Thai joints on their salad rolls - and well, they were lacking :[ Otherwise, I tried the pumkin curry out of morbid curiosity, and although it did not taste pumpkiney in the least, it did have chunks of pumpkin in it - that easily could have been mistaken for zuccini. They have a mango stir fry that I would love to try though, but I'm afraid it might turn out like the pumpkin curry and seriously lack in it's mango-ie-ness.

HUGE portions. I could live on their thai noodle soup, but I have to say their yellow curry is lame. Try the app sampler! Oh, this place has an awesome interior (clearly used to be a dance club!!).

Ambiance is nice, but the food is just OK at best. Maybe we just went on an off day, but the food came out of kind lukewarm and it just wasn't the Thai food I was used to eating... and i LOVE thai food. Came here for lunch last Saturday and I ordered the Pad kee mao, and my bf ordered the beef mango stir fry dish. I asked for hot/spicy, but it was really mild and way too sweet. The mangoes were bitter and the beef was tough... portions were small... hmm.. Well, we had good service though... that was prob the best thing about my experience there... ok, that and my dining partner : )

The atmosphere is great and the building lovely, the service great and the price fair, but the food is just so so. It is a nice place to go for a date or to meet with friends but don't go JUST for the food.

The Thai at E-San is interesting, in a good way, you never know quite what to expect from their dishes. Their soups come in huge bowls and have never ceased to please me. If the soup doesn't fill you up, ,you can enjoy their delicious pad kee mao (did I spell that right?) or my favorite, a red curry dish entitled "the evil prince." You have to be careful though, their "swimming angel," a peanut sauce dish, was one of the worst I've ever had, and quite a disappointment. Nonetheless the food is mostly delicious, and there are tons of veggie/vegan options. Decor is business casual, so not the best for dates, but not too bad for you and your buddies.

I love Thai, but occasionally feel like every place is the same. Well--imagine every Thai Restaurant you've ever been to, and just make everything a little better. Nice ambiance (unlike many Thai places), unique menu options and big time spice (if you ask for it.) You'll love.

I always have such mixed feelings about E-San. On the one hand, the food is amazing. On the other hand...the service is always a total mess. The servers only come to your table to take your order and to give you your food. That's it. Good luck getting a refill or asking a question. Almost every time I have ever been, they have gotten my order wrong or forgotten to bring it altogether. Which is frustrating, because I love their yummy food and I just want to eat it! I think going during non-busy hours is your best bet with this place.

My boyfriend and I got take out, and it was some of the worst thai food I've ever had. Everything was SOAKED in oil and had no flavor. I had to bring it home and reseason everything. We got a veggie dish and the drunken noodle and now feel like vomiting. We'll definitely never eat here again.

My fav thai joint. Pad thai is best version in town, and their Thai Fried Rice (extra extra hot of course) is to die for. Papaya lacks authenticity due to lack of "bidek", but i haven't been to a restaurant that includes it yet. Thai beef salad is pretty damn good too. Large selection of other food also. Go there lunch time for specials (they'll knock a couple bucks off certain dishes). Drinks aren't served that strong, but there's one specialty drink they serve that's rather tasty: Thai Ice Tea w/ Stoli Vanil. Best damn tea i've ever had!

Solid four stars. The fried tilapia with garlic sauce was fantastic. Pad Thai with shrimp was tasty, and shrimp were cooked to perfection. We also had the Green curry with Chicken which didn't have some of the complexities that I expect in a good green curry. Wine prices were very reasonable.

E-San Thai is very close to my office and since they accommodate larger parties, we tend to end up here often. I've tried a few different things off their menu, but never really been wowed by anything. I understand that after going to Thailand, Americanized Thai is just so-so to me. E-San is just so-so, I think that if I had never been to Thailand, I may feel differently. If you're looking for something that is consistent and reasonably priced, I'd definitely just it a try.

Great food. Loved my pad see maw. And the sleeping prawn was yummy. Crispy Tilapia was delicious. Especially the sauce. Kelly our server was a doll. Treated our rowdy party of 15 like kings and queens. She's a gem. Kids enjoyed smoothies for dessert. A very good evening.

Got a thai seafood salad here and it was one of the best ones I have had. Probably because I like things spicy. The waiter recommended I just go normal and get a spice rack, but I opted for "extra spicy" and I'm glad I did. (If you like spicy - don't let them just give you the spice rack because it's only garlic chili paste, chiu chow, and soy with chives... none of them are extremely hot - though yummy and I did end up dumping a fair amount on the salad) I did, however start feeling the heat at the end of the salad (gulping down water and clearing my nose a few times) because I started discovering all the tiny little peppers that had drifted down in my salad. It comes with shrimp (3-4 count) and a good amount of calamari. Overall, really nice salad and pretty large. Ambiance is very quiet and relaxed. Great and friendly service.

We've been looking for quality Thai food ever since moving here from Seattle a year and a half ago. From place to place, we trudged along, tasting everything from good/mediocre to downright sh*tty (I'm looking at you, City (Sh*tty) Thai in Hillsdale and Thai Herbs in Multnomah Village (seriously, THE worst). Finally. I FOUND it!! Amazing Thai food 8 minutes from my house! Friendly staff, cool location and comfy interior. Large portions were filling and delicious! Best Pad Thai we've had for a long time- even rivals my favorite place up north! We're so happy, it's ridiculous.

My friends and I stayed in a hotel in downtown Portland and we were looking for a place to eat dinner, with the help of Yelp, this Thai restaurant had good reviews so we decided to try it out even if the Asian route wasn't our first choice, not too bad of a choice. Like any location in downtown, parking can be tricky since there are no individual lots, so if you see an open spot around the streets, take it. We arrived for an early dinner around 7ish, so no wait for a table, and it was only a few customers, but around 8 it started to get really packed. Many regulars from what I can gauge, professionals and family with children having dinner at this place, very popular. Our server had keen attention detail, he knew it was our first time so he was very helpful and provided some suggestions on what to order and some popular dishes. The menu had many choices but we were kind of set on our go-to Thai dishes. -- Tom yum chicken soup (2/5) - I think it definitely can use more flavor -- Pad se ew with chicken (3/5) - Maybe could have used a little more sauce, but overall ok -- Beef pineapple fried rice (4/5) - I enjoyed the flavor, this was a hit for our table. -- SPECIAL Salmon panang curry (4/5) - To be honest we were all hesitant to order this but the server insisted it was good and we wanted curry but we didn't want another dish with beef or chicken and it surprisingly delicious. Like another Yelper mentioned, for it being a downtown location, the prices are great for your Thai fix.

One of my favorite place for Thai in Portland! The food nor the service never disappoint. We don't get out to this side of the river a whole lot, especially for food, but I've managed to snag a quick lunch with friends a few times. Even my husband whose a pretty picky eater will agree that their food is on par every time. Their Pad Thai is among the few where it's not a tomato based sauce and taste truly authentic to me with the right amount of sweet, sour and spice. According to my husband their curry is absolutely excellent! I wish they were closer to us in Gresham, but there's just nothing out that direction besides for big chains restaurants.

I've been looking for a great Thai place while visiting downtown Portland area. A friend of mine suggested that we go to e-San Thai. Since moving away from San Francisco area where there's a ton of Thai restaurants I haven't found one just like it. The fried rice was delicious! Filled with lots of vegetables, spinach, broccoli moist chicken tomatoes. Yum. If you're in the area you may want to check it out. Service was okay. And you'll get those candies when you pay. Yum. Check it out!

This seriously is our go to for Thai Food. Everything on the menu is pretty consistent and very delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant has a semi-authentic Asian exotic feel. Great place for lunch. It gets pretty crowdy, but not too bad of a wait. My favorite is the Pumpkin Curry with chicken!

I absolutely love this place. Not only for the great quality of food but for the awesome service. My family has been here countless times and love when we have kelly for a server. She is amazing! Not only does she remember what we like, she recommends different things to try, she has taken the time to listen to what we like and dont. Kelly also is very good with our very active 2yr old daughter. Right when we get there she would bring out rice for her to be entertained by while we look over the menu. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I've eaten here numerous times. The atmosphere is a sort of low light quiet place. The waiters are super friendly and helpful. The food is killer. Restrooms not perfect, sort of old, but the place is clean and nice. If your looking for some yummy Thai food downtown PDX. This is the place. They even have a nice big fish tank. Pretty cool.

Esan is one the most popular Thai restaurants in Portland. I have been here many times in the past 10 years for friend's birthday parties, reunions, or quick dinner before going dancing on the weekends. The decor is warm and vibrant, with arched brick walls, a cool fish tank and Thai art and statues. Food is oftentimes served on colorful red and orange plates which adds a fun cultural touch. There is ample space and an upstairs area for overflow seating. They have great food, and I have not tried anything I do not like. Some of my favorites are the pineapple fried rice, pad thai, curry, sticky rice, pad see ew. Everything is always well prepared, good portions and and full of all the right flavors. They also have some really great drinks at the bar. Don't forget the Thai iced tea. Yum! The staff is very friendly and attentive. One time I ordered my food too spicy for my taste. The waiter had noticed that I stopped eating, so he brought me another dish less spicy for no charge. I thought that was really nice of them. lol... So be careful not to order too spicy unless u can handle it :)

  • James K.

Ordered take out half an hour till close. Irritating experience. Person at the register was ill-mannered and pithy. Food was not 'well-priced' unless you think bland Pad Thai should cost $13. Needed lots of condiments and prayer to get through this. Didn't even include chopsticks! Srsly? No No and No!

My favorite dishes are their Panang Curry, Pad See Ew and Pineapple Fried Rice. I've been here several times and the service could be better. I would say that their food is consistently good, but unfortunately this time the Pad See Ew tasted burnt.

E-San's Thai fishcakes are equivalent to that one star player who carries the whole team. The food here is good but the fishcakes. Oh man. These fishcakes are in a league of their own. OK, I'll stop with the sports references. Real talk though, my boyfriend's dad makes the most authentic Thai fishcakes I've ever had and the ones at E-San come very close to these, if not, they might even eclipse them! My boyfriend and I ordered the following during our lunch visit: *The aforementioned Thai fishcakes that rocked my socks. Each patty was firm, yet it also retained a bouncy texture with nice elasticity. They were fried to a beautiful golden-brown with bold spices. The kaffir lime leaves provided a zesty and aromatic flavor. These fishcakes were hot, fresh, juicy, and simply exquisite. They are accompanied by a sweet chili sauce with diced cucumbers. Stellar. *Pad see ew with chicken - my go-to noodle dish at Thai restaurants. A friend of mine recommended E-San solely because of their pad see ew. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed at all. The noodles were hard and clung together (not fully separated). The vegetables were under-cooked and tough to bite into. The chicken was dry and chewy. However, the seasoning was on point as the dish had a sweet and smoky soy sauce flavor. The ingredients were just not utilized to their fullest potential. Hence, this pad see ew did not work. *Chicken satay - I was extremely disappointed with this dish. It might be my own fault though. I was expecting small morsels of grilled chicken on skewers. Yet, what I got was strips of chicken on sticks. This isn't chicken satay, is it? I'm not sure if Thai style chicken satay differs from their Malaysian counterparts. Nonetheless, these pieces of chicken were bland and also very dry. Since the slabs of chicken are so huge (vs. small nuggets), they didn't absorb the marinade very well. The peanut sauce was also a weird consistency, simultaneously runny and thick. It didn't taste like peanuts. Probably the least enjoyable item of our meal. As you can tell, the Thai fishcakes were the MVP of our meal (seriously, I will lay off the sports talk). They deserve an entire star on their own! If I'm ever in Portland again, I would visit E-San and order only the fishcakes.

Was hungry and someone suggested we eat here. The waiter seemed to take our order give us our drinks but after giving us our food he never came back. It took him 30 minutes to come back to give us our check and he finally asked us if we wanted a refill but we just paid and left. HORRIBLE service, there is not excuse to not refilling our drinks yet the waiter inside was constantly refilling people's water but ignored us even though he was not our waiter. I ordered a Thai BBQ chicken, it was completely over cooked and if I knew that our waiter was never going to refill our drinks I wouldn't of drank so much water at the beginning. Never coming back here again.

I would really recommend going to a food cart version. The quality has gone down in their restaurant, at least on the day my husband and I went in, and the service is subpar. The happy hour isn't really worth the money.

  • Mary S.

Not the same anymore. It had been a while since I've been back here. Was looking for some yummy food and good service...disappointed. :( When we asked how spicy there Medium was (because we know that it's different everywhere), the waitress said "why don't you just get mild and I will bring out the hot peppers"... Guess what hot peppers never came out. Got our stir fry and didn't get our rice until asked. Green beans were hard and under cooked. Water was never refilled. Quality has gone down.

Horrible service - it took forever to get our food. There were three tables that sat down after us and they got their food first. The food is awful. Our noodles were burnt and cold when they came out. Don't waste your time or money here. You'll just end up angry that you spent any money at all on crap

Delicious. The meals I've had here have simply been delicious. Tom Yum, Pad Gai.. are my fav's. Tom Yum has good heat. Please get me the recipe for the Pad Gai! : ) Good service and location. Definitely a must visit when I'm in ptown.

I love this place for two reasons. 1) Mary, the bartender here is awesome and sweet. I'm sure she brings in a lot of customers and a lot of them know her by name. 2) The happy hour is fantastic. From 9pm-10pm (and daytime hours I don't remember) they have a variety of excellent Thai food options. From pad khee mao to a variety of curry dishes, and appetizers such as chicken wings and won tons, this place serves up some of the best Thai food I've had. The prices range from $2-$4 for appetizers, and the main dishes are only $5.00. They have happy hour beers that are $2 or $3. Definitely a great deal for some excellent food. There are two large TV's behind the bar, making this an excellent place to watch sporting events. This is a great spot to try out!

FOOD: Arrived for Sunday at 1p (lunch menu available) I ordered the Pad Khing (I love garlic and gingery dishes) (sautéed chicken breasts, two types of mushrooms, red peppers, green peppers, onions, scallions, thin strips of ginger and I requested medium heat. So simple and delicious. The sauce was not some thick, heavy sauce that waters down the vegetables and meat. Sauce was light and flavorful. I like to see the char from the wok on my food and I did. I hate when my food tastes boiled due to too much sauce in the wok. Like another reviewer said -- real chicken breast, that I had to chew but just tender enough, not some weird texture chicken that I often get in some restaurants that is way too tenderized. Vegetables, nice and crunchy (definitely not frozen). The container of rice is huge, enough for two. SERVICE: Friendly, attentive and I ALWAYS had water, which is a must when I have Thai food. I saw offerings of alcohol and beer but I did not have any. PRICE: ($11.50 with tax plus $2.50 for tip = $14 for a nice lunch. No beverages). Some may think it's pricey but this was worth it in my opinion. I just had one dish. LOCATION: Accessible to lots of things (train, pubs, and guess what, donuts). I walked my butt right around to Voodoo Doughnuts (around the corner) and grabbed me two donuts for $1.90:)

I've been enjoying E-San for many years. They have delicious Thai food, great fast service and prices are very reasonable. I recently went here, which is what has prompted the review, with a co-worker for a lunch meeting. I ordered the green curry, always a favorite, and my lunch portion was more than enough and with tip and drink was less than $10 - which for a sit down lunch, downtown, is pretty good!

I dream of this food. My soul craves it. There ought to be a law against food this good. I have the same two things every time I go. I choose the heat level "hot" which is the least hot you can get. They have like 3 heat levels, hot, extra hot, and slap yo' mama hot. I love spicy dishes and I can handle a lot of heat but their low level hot definitely has enough heat to make me sweat. Crab Puffs - holy sh*t there's actually crab in them! Not just crab flavored cream cheese like most places. The sauce that comes with it is awesome as well. And now for the ultimate culmination... I only go there when they have Avocado Green Curry with Chicken which is not on the main menu but is a rotating special. It is heavenly!! The avocados are firm enough to not be mush in the dish but not too firm that they are crunchy. These people are avocado geniuses. As for the flavor - it's an mouth orgasm. I savor every bite and I die a little inside when it's all gone. Be prepared for a post-dinner mourning. But it's so worth it. My mouth is watering just writing this.

Great Thai restaurant near the market. We had the avocado green curry lunch special at 3 stars of heat and it was chock full of perfect avocados, vegetables and chicken with enough heat to make the nose run, we eat hot food and I am glad we did not go to 4 stars. Also ordered the Thai Sausage and it was excellent as well, very complex flavors. The vegetable spring rolls we ordered as an appetizer were everything you would hope and expect, bursting with shredded vegetables, bean sprouts and tofu in a rice paper wrapper. Service was quick and attentive food came out quickly as well. I have been to many Thai restaurants and this one ranks up with the best.

The garden wraps (rice paper + lettuce+ tofu + sprouts) were tasty and rolled perfectly. I liked the type of tofu they used inside, better flavor and texture than most. It comes with plum sauce but you can request peanut sauce if you prefer. And man was their peanut sauce good! Not all peanut sauce out there is equally good let me tell you! I do wish they put avocado in their wraps but no one really does that but me at home lol. We had chicken Pad Ke Mao (drunken noodles) which was delicious. This and Thai Fried Rice are my staple dishes I use to compare one Thai restaurant with another. Sometimes also I compare the rice paper wraps. No one calls them that but me, because everywhere you go they call them something different. I loved that the Pad Ke Mao wasn't greasy like so many places make it (please see my I love Thai review, a big pile of sweet and greasy crap, yuck!) Service was very good. I look forward to coming back and trying the basil Thai fried rice.

Well the service sucked - horrible. Saturday and they weren't that busy at all. Waitress never checked back had to flag her down to send my old crusty fried trout back. Other dishes were just ok. Had to go to bar to order more drinks finally - no water refills, no apologies.

Looking for some good Thai Food? Definitely give E-San a try. This was 2nd time back and lets just say I am a highly satisfied customer. I can't remember my servers name, but she was beyond awesome and very helpful. I love how they give you the different options on picking how spicy you want your food as I love my food extremely spicy. I will definitely be back for more. :-)

Great experience.. Food was good and we will definitely come back. Opens til late.. The people are nice here too.. We ordered Pineapple Fried Rice, Beef Satay & Pad Thai.. Everything was good.. My only lil complain was the beef satay is a little bit chewy.. Its hard to cut or chew it., but the taste is good..

Fresh ingredients, good portions, reasonable prices and just delicious food makes me to want to continue coming to this place again the next time I visit Portland! I came here with my coworkers on a Tuesday afternoon for lunch after being overwhelmed with the choices available at food carts. To start, they have quite an extensive menu - even for their lunch specials. I finally settled for Pad See Mao with meat in medium spiciness ($8.95). It had just a perfect amount of kick to it and a good mix of bell peppers and bean in relation to the meat and flat noodles. It paired perfectly with the Thai iced tea ($1.95) to counter the spiciness. The ambience was nice with a table next to the big windows. Plenty of vegetarian options. I'll definitely be back.

For being in downtown, this place is priced very well. The portions are big and my wife and I always split. They have a big variety and everything taste fresh, spicy and good. It's in downtown, so parking isn't convenient, but otherwise, if im in the area, ill go here if I have a craving for thai food

Not the best in town, Esan is usually chosen if I'm close to it. They offer the usual Americanized Thai--Stir fry noodles, rice and curry. They do have some specialized dishes but it's not executed the way it should. Service is mediocre, nothing special. When it gets busy, there's a long wait. Overall food is all right and at times too bland for me. Sometimes they skimp out on meats and herbs.

Ordered to-go from here so this is specifically for the service & food! Awesome customer service from the phone ordering all the way to pick up in the store front. I got a thai ice coffee (very good but not the best in town) and their Khao Mong Gai. Obviously it wasn't like Nong's but it still was very tasty. Coconut rice was awesome and so was the chicken except that I got quite a few unpleasant pieces with thick veins and super chewy ones as well. Overall it was a good to-go experience and I will definitely be back to try other items, but probably not the khao mong gai again...

The service can be slow at times, but they serve some of the best Thai in Portland. Tonight, I had a special, Avocado Green Curry, that was quite delicious. Pay E-San a visit.

I loved everything we had. Aside from the food our waitress Mary was awesome. Probably the best mango sticky rice Doug and I have ever tasted. The Pad Thai was super tasty and Mary was kind enough to recognize our peanut sauce addiction and being us a bowl of it! The Beef Pad Kee Mao was divine if not as spicy as I would like. And I was introduced to the Nam Kao which was delightful and a rare treat. Good food and good service. Are you sure this place is in downtown Portland?

I was in Portland for a conference and was starving by the time I had arrived at my hotel. When I asked the bellmen where could I go get something good to eat that won't make me take out a small business loan; the first place they said was E-San Thai Cusine. Since I love Thai food and I was about crazy hungry I went the one block over and gave E-San a shot at making me happy. Since this was my first time eating at E-San I went with the chicken Pad-Thai. If you screw that up you suck at Thai food. WIN! WIN! WIN! I was so pleasantly surprised at the Pad-Thai was great. Lots of flavor, the lunch serving was more than filling, and the server was super nice. It enjoyed it so much I had to go back over five hours later when my friend arrived and was as hungry as I was when I arrived to the hotel. I highly recommend E-San if your in Portland.

My favorite Thai place !!! The food is authentic and delicious! Never let's me down! Everything I've ordered is tasty! Pad Kee Mao, pad Thai, pad sei ew, pineapple fried rice, Tom yum, curry, etc! Can't go wrong :)

One of my favorite thai places in Portland. Always quality food, good service and welcoming vibe. The Panang Curry is my personal favorite; you can't go wrong. Spice is as expected, not more or less hot.

Food were very fast, kudos to that! Came during happy hour time but when I asked for the happy hour menu, the server did not seem too happy about it, and very hesitated as he walked away. He was rushing us in ordering, we already ordered 4 dishes (in 30 seconds) and still debating on if we should get another one and he goes "should i come back?" Well how about something like "i'll go ahead and get these four dishes going while you guys can still decide???". On top of that, first time at a Thai restaurant where a server didnot ask us how spicy we wanted in each dish, we ordered a total of 5. Three out of the 5 dishes were good, the Tomyum soup and pad thai, I would give them 4/10 today.

  • Dianne C.

Oh yes! Drunken Noodles (pad kee mao) is my jam and they do it right! Spice level is perfect. I made the mistake of ordering this dish at another Thai place only a mile away...oh the regret. Never again. I also had some of my sister's Crab Pad Thai. It was different and pretty good as well. From here on out it's E-San for my DM. Why is my mouth watering already?

This is the very first place that I experienced Thai food. Must have been about 2001 or 2002, They have been in the game for quite some time. The Lemon Grass soup is absolutely superb and superior to quite a few other Thai food restaurants. This is the first place I had ever tried Pad Thai Noodles and to this day, after trying multitudes of other Thai food restaurants, it still cannot be matched. E-San Thai Cuisine is an absolute heavy hitter in the Portland Thai food scene. The food is excellent, the prices are fair, never an issue with the service. If I had to say one thing it would be that having a little bit of a larger dining room would be nice, it fills out quick during the busy hours. But overall, a GREAT place for a Thai dining experience!

E-SAN! YAY SAN! I've been frequenting here for years, and my one advice is that you be careful on the spice levels. It can get super spicy if you're not precise on the levels- almost to the point of wanting to dunk your mouth in pools of milk. Don't forget that E-san has a pretty sweet happy hour with most dishes ranging from 5-7 dollars. I take full advantage of it since I have strange eating patterns and schedules. Pad thai is super delish here, pad see-ew another fan favorite, tom yum soup will make your mouth salivate with joy, and pineapple fried rice- possibly the best thing ever invented. CRAB LAGOON- YES for appetizer. I'm picturing these images in my head as I type and now have full induced hunger. Thanks yelp.

This is a review for their catering department only. I've tried twice now to order a catered lunch from E-San Thai downtown. The first time I tried to order, I called the restaurant and the lady I spoke with said to email her as she was the only one working the floor and didn't have time to talk to me. I emailed her twice before finally getting a reply and she told me to call and place my order. I found another restaurant who wanted my business for that order. I call again today to try to place a new order. The gentleman I spoke with (5 minutes ago), said I could call the day before my mtg and place the order as he was the only one on the floor and didn't have time to assist me. Problem with that though, and I tried telling him, was that because of the holiday weekend, I needed to place the order today. He still didn't seem to care. So after two attempts at trying to give them my business, they chose not to accept because "they were too busy to help." Good thing there are only another 50 Thai restaurants for me to choose from!

We havn't eaten at Esan in a long time but since we have PaintNite this evening, we chose our usual spot. The atmosphere was nice as always and our server was pleasant. I wasn't very hungry so we decided to order something light. The food came out on time but tonight was the first time I was disappointed with all the food. The egg rolls, the kao tom and the pineapple fried rice all lacked of flavor and everything tasted so bland. I never felt this way here before because this is one of the best Thai places in Portland. I hope this was just a fluke and everything will be all good next time. Until we meet again Esan!!!

Everything in Portland was so delicious but this Thai place was seriously so amazing. This was the best Thai food- I come from SF and SD which has some really bomb Thai places, but this place takes the cake. We had the RED CURRY with pork (I don't even like coconut milk, but I was licking my plate it was so good and addicting!) and the PAD KEE MAO. Oh man the Pad Kee Mao was soooo good. The noodles were the right texture, the veggies were fresh and crisp, and the spices were sooo good. The sauce was the perfect blend of salty and sweet and it was just amazing. It had great fire to the dish that I haven't seen replicated anywhere else. LOVED IT!

I know it isn't an authentic Thai dish, but it always amazes me when a restaurant can make a basic dish outstanding. E-san did this with their pineapple fried rice, which brought me back. A friend and I ordered a spread of appetizers, Tom Kah soup, and curries. I don't have a single bad thing to say about any of it. Fabulous restaurant!

Food: Thai food is meant to be shared amongst your friends and family. I got to try their Combination Plate (fried wonton, fried tofu, chicken skewer, & egg rolls), their Tom Yum soup (moderate spicyness), and their Pumpkin Curry (with real pumpkin pieces). Thai food usually comes with a choice of mild, medium, and hot. I usually tap out at medium, but the medium here is incredibly spicy. Imagine having sriracha sauce secretly baked into a dish and then dousing the dish with more sriracha; that's what the medium here is like. Great to taste the authenticity, but I'll stick with mild next time. My favourite dish was the combination plate which on a regular day could fill me up given its size. There's a good variety of Thai appies on the plate to suit my taste buds. The pumpkin curry came off as a little hard to eat since the pumpkin was literally quite hard. It was my first time trying it and I would liken it to eating an uncooked potato. It's probably great on someone else's taste buds, but it's not for me. The tom yum soup was a classic Thai spicy and sour soup, and the medium spiciness did not disappoint. I'm glad I only had to weather through a small storm of spice. Features: This is a pretty big restaurant. With 2 floors to serve, this place can fit well over 100 guests and they take reservations. The menu is very descriptive and the prices are reasonable for the quality you get. The Portland vibe is here as well with long wooden beams and brick walls and very easy to appreciate. Service: Service was pretty good here. Our server came by to ask how we were doing and when we told him we were waiting a long time for a combination plate he came out of the kitchen with it just moments after. It was nice to see he took immediate action and brought us our dish. One-liner: Hot, extra hot, and extra extra hot options. Highlight: Combination Plate Recommended for: Taste buds ready for a storm Would I go back? Yes.

The menu has so many options and the service is super nice. I try to make the happy hour but usually come later so it is a bit crowded. The portions are huge and the food is good. I dont think it is the best Thai food but it definitely is satisfying if you are in the mood!

    (4)
  • Ashley F.

This place is pretty solid. They furnished every request I had for a business lunch order and were careful to let me know when certain things cost extra. I also like their ordering system - you can order online and then they call you to confirm the order after you've placed it. I ordered the chicken pad thai and it was very good. I liked the flavor, and it wasn't too greasy. I asked for extra bean sprouts and got a ton of them. There was also a lot of chicken. The prices were really fair. I think my pad thai was $8.95 and it fed me for lunch and dinner. My one complaint is the spicy level. Some reviews on here say that the food is very spicy, others comment on the lack of spice. My dish was the latter. I asked for my food "hot" and received mild at best. I was disappointed because I like my food spicy...really, really spicy. From the other reviews and my experience, it seems like the level of spice is inconsistent.

*I would 4.5 it if I could, only thing that fell down was the service, just super slow, nice guy, just seemed underwater *The drinks were good too, get a Thai Me Up *Food was excellent, I had the fried rice with lettuce cups, it was insanely good

  • Arun S.

We went here on July 4th and not only was it open, it wasn't too crowded either. We had a nice table by the window. We decided to do family style dining and ordered one of the fried rice, curry, and noodles. The fried rice was the yellow curry fried rice, and had good mix of veggies and rice. The rice was pretty flavorful but the tofu was not. The panang curry wasn't too coconutty and did not have too much gravy. The pad Thai wasn't amazing but not the worst I've had. The ambience was authentic and well done. The service was nice and we would give it three and a half stars if we could. The quantity was decent but we could have gotten more. All in all we probably won't come back.

Being it's my first time here in Portland, i was hungry after a long drive from LA. I used my mobile Yelp! And picked this restaurant. Service was good and fast. Food was also great. Had the sa-tay, shrimp fried rice and the deep fried egg rolls, and some Singha. Everything tasted as it should be and would definitely recommend and come back.

We were in the mood for Thai food and decided to give E-San a try based on Yelp reviews. We both got drunken noodles and an order of the pork fried rice. I wanted to try the pineapple fried rice but my wife doesn't like it. I ordered my drunken noodles extra spicy and expected to be let down with the level of spiciness like so many other Thai restaurants. Dead wrong, it was HOT. Up there with some of the hottest Thai I've had. It was also very fresh looking and tasting, definitely in my top 2 ever. Wish I had this place back in Connecticut!

Originally only picked this place because it was close to Voo Doo Doughnuts and we were hungry. It was amazing. We started off with the egg rolls, which were pretty standard, but the sauce was where the greatness began. It was heavily peanut-ed, and it made me wonder how long your life span would be if you were from Thailand but had a peanut allergy. Anyway, the sauce was awesome. I ordered the Rad Nah (#64) with chicken, medium spicy. All my favorite things on one plate! Noodles, chicken, broccoli, baby corn, mushrooms--yum! Also, the portion was HUGE, especially for the price. Though we went for dinner, it was only $11.50, and I had leftovers for two meals afterwards (and could have stretched it to 3, but I felt like being a piglet today and have a huge, 2 helping meal). My husband had the Evil Prince curry (#45) with chicken, medium spicy. Our server told us it was the most popular type. My husband was impressed with it, and did not have any leftovers. He even suggested it to the couple that came in a few minutes after us that was sitting one table over. One of them ordered it, and thanked him for his good suggestion! I'm definitely going back again. Great place, especially a wonderful value for your money.

I am a Thai snob. I will tell anyone of my Thai snobbery. Don't try to bring me to some greasy joint and not expect to get told! My friend took me to E-san and I loved it-I want some now, but have vowed back to eating "clean" and something as delicious as what E-san is serving up cannot ever be considered "clean eating"! We had the crab puffs, pineapple fried rice and chicken phad thai. The crab puffs were really tasty---cheesy, crabby goodness! See? Nothing clean about that! The typical sweet and sour sauce the came with it made it even better. Everyone raved about their pineapple fried rice and they were absolutely right! The phad thai was also VERY good without being greasy at all. The sugar level was just perfect, too. I like A LOT of heat in my food and my friend is the polar opposite but the server saved my day by bringing by some of the spices they use while cooking instead of the chiles on the table. We were both able to enjoy our meal at our own heat preferences. Our server was on her game and kept the drinks coming and checked in on us often. I'll definitely be back!

The food is ok - but the serviced isn't. I had to wait for a seat, not because they were backed up, but because no one was paying attention. The wine list was down to one type of wine - literally. I had to basically beg to get waited on - and when I let them know the service was bad - they simply said I didn't have to come back. Deal! The food carts around the corner are actually better.

***Decent Thai food in downtown PDX*** My co-workers and I were hungry. One of them suggested to check out E-San Thai in downtown PDX. I had heard of the restaurant and was glad to check it out during a lunch hour. [decor] Seems a bit run down (kinda expected since it's in the downtown area). The place is a bit dusty, but they do have some decor reminiscent of Thailand. This place also has a bar if you feel like watching a sports game and having a drink. There are a bunch of tables and booths for seating. [devour] *(L-18) BEEF PAD SE EW ($8.50 lunch price; ***4 STARS***) - Their wide rice noodles are cooked stir fried along with broccoli and your typical pad se ew sauce. The dish is a bit greasy, but that's expected with stir fried noodles. I ordered the noodles with a medium spice and was glad they do deliver on the heat. The lunch portions are a good hefty serving and can be split between two people or two meals. Not too shabby for a lunch deal. I wouldn't mind ordering this again. You can choose what kind of protein you want with the pad se ew. Depending on the protein you pick will determine the price ($7.50-$10.95). ( yelp.com/biz_photos/e-sa… ) FYI = -Parking on the street (some metered) -Watch out for hobos in the area -Accepts CC's -Great for groups! -You can order food to-go and you can also order online -Spicy level options: mild, medium, hot, extra hot or extra extra hot -Dinner prices are a couple dollars more than lunch prices -Their second location is also in Portland -OPEN 7 days week for lunch and dinner Not too shabby for Thai food. Oh my gawd. The pad thai here was a party in my mouth. Finally, a pad thai in Oregon that tastes like it's supposed to; all spicy, savory goodness and not the sad noodles mixed with peanut butter and weird sweet & sour sauce that I've had at way too many places in Beaverton and Salem. The thai tea was sweet, creamy perfection. And our waitress was so cool, she didn't even mind the trail of feathers and glitter my friend and I left around the restaurant, fresh from the Pride parade. She recommended we add vodka to our tea, and fabulous times were had by all. Go. Just...go. I'll be dreaming about this place until I get the chance to go again!

E-San is my go to Thai place in downtown. The food is authentic, delicious, and well priced. My favorite dishes here are the thai beef salad, papaya salad, chicken pad thai, and pineapple fried rice (it comes in a pineapple too!). The spicy mango mojito is my favorite cocktail here, it has heat but isn't too spicy.

This place doesn't deliver, despite what their website and Yelp says. I called at 5:55 p.m. and they said they stop delivering whenever there are customers who actually want delivery. Interesting business strategy. The food is very oily, not very good, and the shrimp are extremely small and served with the tails on (on every entree and appetizer). It's really odd to have stir fry shrimp with the tails on. Who wants to fish through their entire entire entree and get the tails off the shrimp? Answer: nobody, ever. It's obviously much easier to do in the kitchen, than at the dining table. This is a very weak Thai place. I've eaten at 50+ such places around the country, and I'd put this in the bottom 5-10.

I've eaten at a lot of Thai restaurants in town and for a sit-down Thai restaurant, I still haven't found one that even comes close to E-San. The restaurant is always clean, service is friendly, most importantly the food is consistently AMAZING. Try the crab cream puffs, then Pad Mamoung. Even the "standard" Pad Thai kicks everyone else's out of the water. Moreover, was there again the other night, they were just closing for a private employee/family party, hostess apologized. We were disappointed as we had out of town guests to try E-San. We walked out the front door into the rain to discuss where to try to eat, the owner came out and said that it'd be no problem to still accompany us for dinner during their in-house party. We were the only patrons and our server was still on the ball with taking care of us. Thank you E-San!!!!!!!!!

If I had caught their Happy Hour $5 Pad Thai (or food cart for that matter), I may have been more impressed than I was. Otherwise, E-San is pretty standard in terms of Thai places, price, at least where Toronto is concerned. Service was friendly 'n pleasant! I ordered a Pad Kee Mao, just under $10 for chicken, and it was fine. Had leftovers and the next day, saw how much grease was at the bottom of the takeout container.

I work downtown. There are a LOT of Thai options downtown. Whether you are interested in a brick and mortar to have lunch with a friend or just want to grab something quick at a cart, you have no shortage of options. THIS is my go-to Thai. The quality and reliability of the food is pretty good. Basically, you know what you are going to get. You can bring a large group of people and there are plenty of options to choose from, so its rare that someone isn't happy with the selection. Unlike some other places nearby, they will alter the dish NO PROBLEM. There are two caveats and they will apply differently depending on your needs. #1, its usually busy at lunch time. Even though they always have plenty of servers, you can wait a bit for your food. This can be bad if your boss watches the clock. #2, people complain about the consistency of the spice level. I get it "mild plus", so it doesn't really apply to me.. although I have been surprised a time or two.

Great Thai food, fast, friendly. Recommend: yellow curry, pad Thai Do not bother with the online ordering system. It is inconsistent at best. Call your order in or better yet, dine in the restaurant. There was a lot of unused space at 8 pm on Friday night.

Been here a few times and I always feel like the service is slow on the weekends. The food is usually ok, except the papaya salad which I have had twice and it always tastes day old, or worse. However, the Tom Kua soup is great. I'll stick to the soup menu for lunches. Nice atmosphere and location.

Good thai food will be back for more. Just down the street from me and easy ordering system. The menu could probably be trimmed since there is so much good stuff on there. The service is typically good. Overall it's a 4 star.

This is a review of their FOOD CART in NE (they don't have a separate yelp for them). The food cart is right near my work and it is DELICIOUS! The food is hot, spicy and fresh and the staff is really nice and accommodating. They can make almost anything vegan and allow you to call in your order ahead of time to beat the lunch rush. $7 gets you a massive portion of curry and rice that is sure to not disappoint! Yum! Thank you guys for being such a great and accessible Thai place!

Can't complain about anything. Great service and by far, the best Thai food I've had in Portland. Coming from SoCal where we have really authentic Thai restos in Hollywood ThaiTown, e-San's fried rice, and pad see eew put a smile on my face. Full of Thai flavour (fish sauce, earthy notes, lime) and not sticky at all, I could not stop eating the rice!

Came here for the fried ice cream and it was excellent! It was strawberry ice cream battered and deep fried...what else can I say? Great friendly service.

I don't always eat Thai food, but when I do I eat E-San. (see what I did there). This place is definitely one of the better options for Thai food in downtown or even anywhere in general. It's a big & spacious resturaunt which a huge fish tank of weird looking fish which is fun to look at. Don't miss out on the crab puffs - they don't skimp on the crabmeat like you often run into! Thom Kha is well balanced in flavor and paired with shrimp is the way to go for sure. They don't mess up on the classic pad thai either - not too oily, spiced to perfection and a extremely generous portion that can be split between two people easily. Service is always polite & unless the place is slammed you'll have your food in no time at all.

I went and tried this restaurant because of their ratings but WOW, what a big mistake!!! Their service was slow even though the restaurant wasn't busy at that time. VERY POOR food quality. Their food quality makes me wonder if their cooks are even Thai?? Coming from a SE Asian background, I know what these dishes supposed to taste like. I ordered a roasted duck curry dish but it only had skin in it instead of meat!! NEXT. .......

Visiting Portland from Los Angeles where I thought we had the best of all cuisines. I was wrong. This place is delicious. The "hot" spice is just right for the curry. The Pad Kee Mao noodles were mind blowing and the salad was fresh (the dressing was great too, not too thick like many Thai places). So much flavor to enjoy. They also had local craft beer on tap (Ninkasi) which was tasty. Highly recommend if you're in the mood for Thai.

Fresh and tasty food but... asked for medium plus spicy and got mild. No spice. If you like spicy Thai, go somewhere else.

Great meal at a great price. A friend took me to E-San, and as we were walking from the Pioneer Square area toward more desolate streets, I wasn't sure what I was in for. We were quickly seated in a restaurant with a decent weeknight crowd. We ordered two dishes: the green curry with shrimp, which is a popular dish. But that night, the standout was from the specials: Pad Thai with duck. The shredded duck was cooked perfectly, and added a richness to the pad Thai beyond the usual proteins. If I ever see it on the menu again, it's non-negotiable whether or not I'd order that. If you're visiting Portland like me, head off the beaten path to this gem. You won't be disappointed.

My cousin is one of the most picky eaters that I have ever seen. I've never seen him finish his plate or get through a meal without complaining. He ate all his food and said it was really good. I was really shocked. I had the evil prince. Good. Husband had pad Thai. Good. Cousin had a thin noodle dish with chicken. I don't remember what it was called. It was good. Service was friendly. Walking distance from Voodoo Doughnuts.

KHOP KHUN E-SAN Two visits and now more than convinced this is my go to westside PDX Thai stop. Unique stir fried and soup selections are amazingly authentic. Great value and service. "Wok hay" is phenomenally incredible. Can't say the same for the soup entrees. Meager and expensive compared to the Thai shops.

Delicious Thai food! Very fresh and good sized portions. We ordered the fried wontons (which were great), vegetable soup (very tasty), combination seafood fried rice (delicious!) and chicken stir fry (really good). Service was great too.

Came in on Tuesday to order out beef salad and a pork pad Kee mow. I drove right from esan back to work to eat my food. But then when I was eating the beef salad I noticed that the meat tasted funny and the lettuce was frail grose. There was a not right taste to it so I stop eating and through it away. About 45min after I ate the beef salad I started vomiting and then followed by diarrhea and fever chills. I went into urgent care and they told me I had food poisoning from bad meat either from beef, chicken or pork I had eaten. Needless to say I'm still suffering right now still got everything and it is Thursday today. Feeling like death right now due to vomiting and diarrhea and fever. I just want it out of my system.

Back in August, I had a great plan for a date: pick up Thai food to eat before a show. All I had to do was call in, walk, pick it up, and walk back. Easy. Too bad they forgot to put in my order when I had called. The manager didn't seem to care too much beyond saying "sorry." I waited about 15 to 20 minutes with no consolation. Walked back and had to apologize for being late. My date's Swimming Angel was bland beyond belief. My Pad Kee Mao was also thoroughly disappointing, lacking the delicious spice and flavors I look for in Thai food. I might have just stuck them with a 2 stars, but their customer service back in August drops it to a 1. I could have saved myself $8 and 10 minutes if I had just walked to a Thai cart nearby. Too bad.

Mhmm...this place has some good food. My friends and I ordered some take-out after a long day of shopping (we didn't think we'd have the energy to sit upright at a restaurant) and took it back to our hotel to have a late-night dinner. My boyfriend and I ordered the Swimming Angel (with chicken) and Pineapple fried rice (with tofu). To my dismay, the pineapple fried rice was not presented on a halved pineapple....but I guess that would be quite difficult to put in a takeout box. Either way, both dishes were really satisfying. The fried rice had a great balance of sweet and savory, as did the Swimming Angel. And holy cow, was it a lot of food! After gorging ourselves during dinner, we still had enough left over for a light breakfast. Next time I find myself in Portland, I'm going to have to go back and eat at the restaurant...for the full experience.

I feel I need to preface this review by saying that I'm not a huge Thai fan, so I just had appetizers. A group of friends and I made it in time for their happy hour, which they have daily until 6. They have a rather extensive menu, with choices from $2.50-$4 for appetizers, and $6 for a few selected entrees. I had the spring rolls, and chicken satay. It wasn't bad, but again, this isn't my favorite cuisine. Others in the group were quite happy with their selections, with the salt and pepper calamari and prawns being the favorite appetizers. There was also a chicken & green bean dish, and pad Thai that was very good. A word of warning though, even though it's not stated on the menu, they tack on an 18% service charge for parties over 6. I don't think it's a big deal as I usually tip that or more, but it is nice to know before hand. Also, it wasn't very busy, but we had problems getting anyone to come back to the table for water, soy sauce, or to run our cards. We had to go up to the bar several times to ask. Also, well drinks go up to $6 after happy hour! Man, for $6 I want top shelf for a rum & coke.

Went back, grabbed some Pad Kee Mao (w/ tofu). Perfect. Really. There is nothing I could change about this dish, and now it's settled; My absolute favorite Thai in town. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ All holds true still, yet what I wrote previously: This was some of the best red curry i've had in town. So fantastic. And while this is one place I could probably actually order the dish "hot" the medium was perfect. My friend ordered the pad thai which was equally fantastic, and I'm a bit embarrassed to say how good mixing the two was. Service was also excellent: waitress came by only once or twice, keeping our drinks sufficiently full but not bothering us. Meals were just under $10 ($9.95 for veggie curry) but with drinks I would bump the price up to two $.

I have been here a few times when the craving for Thai food hits. However, after my experience last night I will not be back. Think eggplant stir fry with no eggplant. Think salad rolls with no flavor and soggy veggies. Think papaya salad with no papaya but half a head of cabbage underneath to make you think you are getting some value for your money. I was so disappointed-if it had not been takeout I would have asked for a refund. I will never be back.

My Groupon is about to expire! Shit! Luckily I had an evening planned in Portland. Sorry friends, I know there are a billion places in Portland to eat, but we HAVE to go to E-San, cause I don't want to waste $$! Not my first time to E-San. Used to go a lot for lunch when I worked a few blocks away. I miss the food, but not the commute. Hood River to Portland everyday....shoot me. So, when I saw a Groupon, I jumped on it. It was packed with all the drunks stumbling from Brew Fest. Very loud. Though busy, our waitress was great. No issues there. I had Pad Kee Mao, friends had yellow curry and some shrimp dish I failed to ask about. I'm a terrible friend. Yummy all around. All plates had the right amount of spice, texture, and flavor. I docked a star because of the noise level and in the past I have experienced slow service. I can't say I will go back anytime soon, but not because of the restaurant, but because I don't frequent Portland often and if I do, there are a ton of other places I want to try! I have commitment issues.

Went here last night with my fiance while we were in Portland to see a concert. The women working there were all very friendly and made it possible for us to make it to our show on time. My fiance got the pad thai and I got the fried rice with chicken which we both really enjoyed. Sadly since we were in a hurry I had to leave some of the fried rice which I wish I could have finished. I loved that the fried rice had tomatoes, cucumbers, and broccoli instead of the usual peas, carrots and egg. I wish we had a place like this near my house because it was very cute and great for a date night with my man. We will be sure to stop by there again when we are back in Portland which I hope will be soon.

We've already put the owners on notice: when we win the mega lotto, we plan to steal the chef! What a glorious find in a torrential downpour on our first day in Portland. The Nam Kao was absolutely PHENOMENAL with the perfect balance of texture, heat & flavors. This is a must dining for anyone who is a Thai cuisine devotee. And yes, had there been an hour long line to get in in the pouring torrent, we still would have waited! It is that good! Counting the days til we go back.

3.5 stars. E-San Thai was quite good. Ate there for lunch yesterday afternoon. The food had great flavor even with 0 stars, which is impressive (often times I find Thai food equates 0 stars with 0 flavor - so not cool). I will say that I ordered the eggplant stir fry dish and there was NO EGGPLANT. Like, seriously there was a huuuuge dish of food with only two of the tinest pieces of eggplant I've ever seen. Lucky for me I like peppers/onions/other veggies that were in the dish. Also, they don't serve brown rice which I thought was incredibly puzzling.

Until tonight, I'd have said E-San Thai was nice, but forgettable. Tonight, however, I found their standout dish: Tom-Yum soup. So good! (At least, if you don't mind salt; I'm an unrepentant salt-o-phile). It had a smoky depth that I haven't experienced before that blew my mind. My sister (a student of the culinary arts) and I couldn't scoop it in fast enough. It's a good thing that the rest of our meal wasn't quite so spectacular--I probably couldn't have handled it. We had a mango stir-fry that was tasty, and my little girl had Pad Thai (like always), which was good enough. It was lacking in the shredded veggie department, but no complaints from my daughter. In theory, it was chicken Pad Thai, but I don't recall any chicken pieces sizable enough to have identified it as such. The only disappointment of the meal was the fried ice cream: the sticky, sweet rice and the salty, thick fried dough around the ice cream didn't do much for me (or my sister). Yeah, I know I said I like salt--but apparently not with ice cream. The strawberry ice cream was ok, though, and it didn't last long with my daughter on the attack. The fried bananas had actually been our first choice, but I guess Portland's suffering from a banana shortage. The interior of the restaurant is more elegant than a lot of Thai restaurants, lots of wood and large statues, not a lot of bright colors. Our server looked like he could have used some help; he was really hurrying around with stacks of loaded plates. He was nice enough that we didn't mind that part of our order was misunderstood. Though, just try telling a 5 year old "The dessert's coming" for 15 minutes only to find out that it hasn't been successfully ordered . . . I'll definitely be back for the Tom Yum soup. The rest of the menu, well, maybe I need to do a little more exploring of their menu to see if I can discover another gem.

Let me preface this by saying that I have not eatten at this restraunt. HOWEVER, I did buy some coupons on Travelzoo because I wanted to try their food. When I went to call them about the coupons I was told in one breathe "We've never used these before but we only let people use one per table per visit when they use these coupons." Unfortunatly, there was nothing of this written on the coupon nor in the fine print as there typically is when this is the case. I was also suprised that the staff had never heard of this promotion prior and had to "check with some people" and call me back about it. Needless to say due to their lack of professionalism and basically false advertising I got a refund on my coupons and will be trying another restraunt instead. Hopefully their food can make up for what their management lacks but I'm not going to spend my time and money when they've already let me down and I have yet to set foot in the restraunt.

Really nice place and tasty food. The place was a bit understaffed, and you could tell they were working hard and were tired. However, the service was still great and the food was too. I really liked the fried spring rolls here a lot. I'm not sure if I was just badly craving them that day and that's why I thought they were amazing. Regardless, everything we ordered tasted wonderful and I would definitely come again.

In a town full of Thai restaurants, it's hard to pick one. The menu for this place looked really good and it was close to the hotel, so we decided to give it a try after I read the Yelp reviews. We chose well. They had crab pad thai, which very few places offer, so that was a big plus. We also got a seafood stir fry and a vegetable dish, both of which had similar vegetable mixes but completely different sauces, so we had some different flavors. Everything was well-prepared and fresh, and I'm glad we went here. UPDATE: I heard they now have a cart too! I believe it's going to set up at the 9th and Alder pod, but that may or may not end up being where they are. Good news though.

DELISH! I've been here many times, and never reviewed it, and you know what? They (and you) deserve to know! Went here two times in the last two weeks, which prompted this review. Took a relative from out of town here for lunch and she got the Pineapple Fried Rice. She was impressed because it was a very generous portion, it was delicious, and it was served in half a pineapple. The Pad Thai is always great, and the vegetables always cooked just right. The seafood medley with veggies is also awesome, and has a very generous amount of seafood that is cooked properly, even in that delicious broth. I LOVE spicy, so I always get the max, and our server was kind enough to bring me the extra spice tray and suggest getting Thai Hot next time. I think he may have been disappointed that I "wasn't even sweating," and didn't ask for more water. I will be back. Probably next week.

Consistently good fresh food and speedy service. I've eaten here about a dozen times for lunch and most recently met a friend last week. I usually get the salad rolls and Pad Thai or Pad Ram Mit with beef or chicken. I like some spice and ordered it medium and I was sweating like a fool! My friend who orders his spicy even said mine was ridiculously hot. So, I think I'll get it mild next time and ask for their side tray of sauces. Their house tea is delicious.

I really like to give places 5 stars when I'm a repeat customer (and I am definitely a repeat customer of E-san) I would give the food 5 stars alone, but unfortunately I've had a few too many issues with the service here to give it the full 5 all around. If you read my other ratings you'll know I understand about restaurants being busy at lunch and dinner hours and expect the service to be a bit less than perfect. Heres been my experience. The 4 or 5 times I've actually sat down and eaten here the food was fantastic and the service was great. I usually order Pad Kee Mao with chicken and love it. (but I've had the not 100% sure what its called, I think its Sausage with fried rice? which was also quite delicious) The 10 or so times I've ordered lunch from E-san about half of them I've been disappointed (a few times I've even decided to go someplace else). I'll order lunch for our whole office and twice we've not received food we ordered, and received something else instead. Twice I was told the food would take a certain amount of time, and it seemed that when I arrived at the time they told me, the food had not even been started. I've eaten outside once, but unfortunately for Esan they're right by the sewer line and it stunk outside like sewage (this is not affecting my rating--just an FYI for potential outdoor seating lovers--wouldn't recommend unless you have a weak sense of smell.) it does make me a little grumpy that they wont deliver to us when we're only 3 blocks away and we're ordering for 8-10 people, but again I understand its lunch rush and everytime I've been in there at lunch they are almost always packed--again a good sign for the restaurants ratings. Unfortunately, like a relationship you know you should probably get out of, but just can't seem to leave because the good times are too good, and the bad times aren't really that bad, E-sans food is so delicious that we continue to order over and over again, in the hopes that we'll get what we order and it will be ready within a reasonable timeframe, because when its like that, its unbeatable for Thai in Portland.

I came in after stopping for a quick beer at Dante's with my girlfriend. We were looking for a quick bite after a long and sunny day at the fair. Our waitress Marnee was real comfortable and friendly, and we ordered #34. It was a light vegetable and chicken stir fry, but the spice was not there. Spicy or not, the meal was real enjoyable, the service was what we were looking for, and the place was relaxed as most people were probably winding down after the fair. This stuff also heated up well in the microwave. Always a plus! If I lived in Portland and was able to get to this place conveniently, E-Sans would have themselves regular. Fast and friendly service, good, cheap food with a very clean dining area. This is an awesome restaurant.

I'm no expert on Thai food, but this place was pleasant, inviting, and delicious! We had really excellent service - our waitress offered to make a couple "Thai Me Up" drinks for us to try since we weren't sure about the combination of alcohol and Thai Tea/Coffee (btdubs, it's effing awesome!). She checked in on us regularly, and we were never without anything. Additionally, this place looked pretty good for larger groups, and from what I can tell were very accommodating. Prices were on the higher side of normal Thai food (between $10-16 depending on your meat), but the food was really delicious. My co-human and I ordered our food medium spicy, and it was just the right amount!! Enough to know you'll be feeling it later, but not enough to make you down 5 gallons of water before the end of the meal. A perfect lip-tingler. One quibble - I wish the rice portions for 2 people were just a tad bit bigger. We had to order one more but really only got through 1/3 of it because we both needed just that much more rice. This is really minor though, and in light of the whole experience I can say that I will be back!

    (4)
  • Tiffany J.

Deeeeelish! I like the Evil Prince and the Tomka soup. It's hard to chose when I go. Prices are decent, especially since the portions are pretty big and usually means 2 meals for me. The "spice" level could stand to be a little more consistent. I feel like it's a crap shoot when I say "Hot" if it's going to burn my mouth off or require more peppers. Either way it's SUPER good. Gets busy at lunch so go early or go late. Everyone knows how tasty it is so the place fills up fast!

R.I.P. E-San Happy Hour. You were among the best in town. On my regular late-night visits (meaning 9 p.m.), I always wondered why you didn't have more patrons, what with your $2 micros and $2.50-$4 appetizers. Seriously, if you were axed because of lack of customers, I can only blame my own selfishness for not getting the word out; I guess I just didn't want to share... With HH stripped down to a shadow of what it once was (and prices up...and drink specials gone), there's really not as much going on for you these days. You've lost your edge. The standards here--Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, Pad Se Ew, etc--are pretty dern good. Not too greasy, and appropriate portions (as in, not too much, like many other places). My main reservation regarding E-San is management. On one visit, a new guy was serving us. We asked for the HH menu, but this was in that two-week period when they were "revamping" the menu, so he really tersely said, "Oh, happy hour? That ain't happening." When we ordered, he kept chuckling and shaking his head, like we were inconveniencing him. Real nice. (Note to management: Fire the stoner white guy.) Then there was the time when they lost their liquor license for a week or so. These things happen--running a restaurant can't be easy--but at least pretend to be apologetic. We were your only patrons! Another in a long list of generic--*slightly* better than mediocre--Thai eateries in Portland. Don't make a special trip, but if you're in the neighborhood...

I've been going to E-San for a few years and this place seems to be going down hill. I was here a couple months back and thought the food was not as good as I remembered it but decided to give it another try when my friend said she was craving Thai Beef Salad from this place. We got there around noon so it was very busy. My friend arrived just before I did so he grabbed a table for the 3 of us. I later learned he had been standing at the front door and 2 other groups of people who arrived after he did, was seated before him! (apparently they pick and choose who should be seated first??) Once we were ready to order I waived our waitress down to place our order. She came over and was so rude to us, I felt like we didn't belong there! She didn't crack a smile and she was snappy when asking how spicy we wanted our food. When our food came out, it was mediocre. The Tom Yum soup was a little on the salty side and the Thai Beef salad had celery tips in there. It was as if they were trying to use left over vegetables to fill the bowl of salad. The curry dish we order was pretty good but that was the only thing that was decent in that place. This is definitely the last time I'll ever stop by this place!!

I went here for dinner recently. The inside is really nice and comfortable, the service was lacking. I ordered the red curry with beef. I got beef that was almost like rubber and the veggies under cooked. The rice was also under cooked. I tried another noodle dish and it also had tough meat and under cooked veggies. The egg rolls were very greasy too. Not real happy with my experience here.

Ran into this place with a friend and checked out their happy hour which ends at six. We shared an spring rolls and a Pad Thai and we were full. The service left something to be desired for as the waitress did come and check up on us or had to wait to get our glass of water refilled. I would try it out again hoping for better service.

Ahh, I enjoyed this restaurant. A group of us got many dishes to share, and all of them tasted great. The decorations were average, the service was friendly, and the portions were large. I'd definitely want to come back if I was in the area again.

I have only had Thai cuisine a handful of times, and I always stick with a noodle dish. So when my friend recommended we meet at E-San for dinner, I was excited to expand my Thai food experience. We shared the Pad Ruam Mit with Tofu (mix vegetables of broccoli, mushrooms, bell pepper, onions, baby corn, stir fried with brown sauce) and the Gang Panang with Chicken (panang curry sauce cooked with coconut milk, fresh basil leaves and assorted vegetables). I really enjoyed the Gang Panang, and I thought that the Pad Raum Mit was good (although I probably wouldn't order it again). The service was good (probably because we were the only ones in the restaurant), the prices were reasonable for the portion size and they are conveniently located on the MAX line. I will definitely be back to try their noodles and more of their curry dishes.

I started off with the Crab Cream Puffs. They were alright, I suggest they use a different won-ton wrapper that's less hard so it's easier to bite into. Then I had the Pad Kee Mao which was delicious! The red and green bell peppers were cut at the perfect size so I could have a little bit of everything in each bite. The spice level was on point and not the fake extra hot I've got at the other restaurants. Overall I had a great meal and my waiter was very nice. It wasn't until I went up to pay that my 5 stars went down to 3. One of the waiters or he could have been a bartender was eavesdropping in a conversation my cousin and I were having and responded to something that we were talking about. I thought that was completely disrespectful and unprofessional of him to do that. I'll go back for the food, but I'm not a big fan or the customer service.

Went again with some gaming buddies and, once again, E-San didn't disappoint. My friend thinks their food is spicy, but I always think it could get kicked-up a notch. Nevertheless, I promised myself I would get a takeout container like my last visit...but I broke that promise and enjoyed it all that night - thank God I ran in the a.m. and the next day. ;^)

Ok, I admit it. I'm a Thai Virgin. Now, I know what you're thinking, but what can I say? Never had Thai food. I have no idea why but I finally succumbed to peer pressure and had my first Thai dish and just fell upon E-San Thai Cuisine. It was convenient as we were visiting Saturday Market and refused to eat from the greasy mobile carts that had an overwhelming stench of deep-fried everything. I stared at the menu for a long long time. There was so much to read and it was my first time! How do I know what to order? What does all this mean? Is it spicy? Is it greasy? Do I have to use chopsticks? What if I don't like it? I'm so confused!! I finally closed my eyes, circled my finger in the air and plopped it down somewhere in the middle of the oversized menu. Wow. That's all I can say. Wow. I loved the Pad Thai with shrimp, shared the fried rice and sausage dish that my girls had, even snuck a bite of my husband's lemon-grass chicken something or other. The service was a bit slow and it wasn't very busy, but the food was amazing and I'm definitely going back. I may even keep my eyes open when I order next time.

When I think of the best Pad Thai I've ever had -- aside from my late grandmother's recipe -- I know of one place. That's E-San Thai, for sure! Oh, don't get me started on their Yum Nuang (beef salad), Gao Loul (soup), Pad Gai (wide noodles), and Pad Prik Khing (stir-fry with green beans) ... I'm drooling as I write this. And that's just naming a few. Honestly, I never had anything bad off their downtown menu. I order everything hot then add more of their hot pepper oil. There's something about the smokiness of that hot oil that makes me eat more and more. Now, I have no problem eating a lot! ;)

Really? This is what you all have been raving about?? For some reason I thought all the hardcore Asians at my work knew what they were talking about...Nope. First of all, you'd think a downtown restaurant would know how to get people in and out the door at lunchtime in under an hour...no dice. Could the food be the redeeming factor?...no dice again. The Pad Kee Mao was salty and uneventful...more like Pad Kee slop (for 9 bucks!!). Yuck! Sometimes places that are bad with the noodles are great with the curries and vice versa...hopefully this is the case with E-san or it really has nothing going for it. Once again, I'm stickin' with my Lady Thai food cart...

E-san has been my go-to Thai restaurant for 5 years now, which I consider pretty impressive as Thai restaurants have been popping up on just about every other street corner in Portland. E-san offers a solid and delectable menu, with a relatively short waiting time between ordering and receiving your food. I love their pad se ew... of the dozens of times I've been here, this dish always has the perfect combination of sweet, salty and spicy! I'm not a big pad thai person because I've had really bad experiences where it's too sweet or salty or just plain bland. E-san, though, is the best place I've gone to for this popular dish. If you're in the rice mood, however, pineapple fried rice would be the way to go. The rice is perfectly cooked, and the flavors meld really well together... and come on... they serve it in a half-pineapple shell... how awesome is that? E-san is a great choice for Thai food... order to-go if you're in a rush... they usually finished my orders within a short time.

Came here with a few friends for dinner and enjoyed delicious Thai food in an awesome environment (I love the kinda tacky tropical bungalow feel). We ordered a good amount of food, but in the end we paid about 15 dollars per person and left stuffed to the gills. They have the standard thai dishes that you find in America on lock down and also create creative and enjoyable specials that push the boundaries just a bit. I am sure they are busy with the downtown lunch crowd, but for dinner we had no wait at all.

Been here a few times and have introduced others to the restaurant as well. Wonderful food and service. I'm always a fan of the Pad Kee Mao dish which has wide drunken noodles with the option of meat or Vegetarian (tofu) with assorted veggies.

This one of my favorite Thai places downtown. Lucky for me it is 2 blocks from work. The Evil Prince is great (red curry). There is also a dish that is pretty much a drunken noodles dish, this one rocks too. Lunch prices are not bad and the atmosphere is great. I usually sit in the bar.

Yummy! My hypothetical last meal would be a curry dish... They have 2 locations the one downtown and the one in N. Portland on Denver. It's in a great location for my husband and I and we have been in warmly greeted, and both times the place has been empty. The service is good, the food (Masamanum curry) amazing. the decor is pretty sweet too- all the walls are painted murals of Thailand and include elephants and tigers. Plus the leftovers last another day and the price is awesome. On our first visit we got free spring rolls. North Portland local =5 stars I did eat at the downtown local a few months back and the Pad Thai was so-so. Downtown local = 3 stars

I've been here twice now and both times were excellent. I ordered the Pad Thai which was delicious! My husband ordered the Panang curry, and asked the spice level to be low because it's already a spicy dish. This one, even with his request, was hotter than what he imagined a 4 star hot dish would be! He was disapointed that they didn't warn him that either A. They can't change the spice level or B. warn him that it's really freakin' hot.

"Waiter, there's a leaf in my soup.........." Yes, that's what I heard at the table next to us. Hhhmmmm, I thought the diner was joking, but NOT. Whether it was joke or not, I laughed (OUT LOUD)... I nearly fell off my chair, if you must know. The server graciously described what this mysterious leaf was all about and all was good in the world. Speaking of: E-San makes a lovely Tom Yum soup, it not only has amazing flavor which includes a few kaffir (lime) leaves, but the menu describes it as having such. Now, I shouldn't be so cruel, as not everyone is fortunate enough to have the opportunities we Portlanders do with regard to being able to try international cuisines- galore. And this person was a tourist. However(!!) I still couldn't help laughing, at least it wasn't a fly, right? Ok, back to the review. They have great lunch specials and food is good to very good (3.5-4 stars). Service is friendly, helpful and quick if trying to get back to the office in under an hour. Food is served piping hot and they do a large lunch crowd, so it's fresh and orchestrated perfectly. I love that they ask how hot you would like your food (level of spice). They also know what you mean when you say medium-hot to hot! All around great Mon-Friday Thai.

It was really refreshing to see a nice, friendly, and energetic atmosphere at one asian restaurant... It usually doesn't happen. The food was good, the atmosphere was even a little romantic, and even though the wait staff was busting their asses on the floor, I never had to wait for a water refill or more rice, and it was always done with a genuine smile. Kudos to E-San for great food and a well- run restaurant!

Date Visited: Friday 2/29/08 (Lunch) New tradition with my administrators and me....we go to lunch together once a month. My administrators are on rotation, getting to pick the restaurant. We got to E-San, via the red MAX train (Skidmore Fountain stop), just before noon. It was already crowded. We sat on the main floor. Service was decent and we were able to order quickly. The food took a little time to be served, but that was understandable. I think everyone enjoyed what they ordered, except they were all under-spiced. I ordered Pad See Ew (medium) with tofu and definitely got a mild version. Still, it was quite yummy. Had to go to my 2nd Yoga class right after work, so I knew I couldn't take leftovers home. I made sure to eat all the broccoli (which there wasn't enough of) and tofu (which I am glad there WAS plenty of), leaving only noodles (which were good, but also scare me to some degree because I always think I'm going to choke on them....I know....it's a weird thought no one should have while eating something so simple). The restaurant is a decent size and I think the location is great no matter what you might be doing downtown. It's just a hop and a skip from Saturday Market (just across the street from Kell's). Service has been mostly good each time I've gone. Good food for a good price. What more do you want? Free refills on the Thai Iced Tea would have given this place 5 stars for me.

One of the better choices for Thai food in a town chock full of it, E-San is a solid go-to for lunch during the day (I've not had dinner here, yet). The lunch menu provides choice and variety. The staff are quick as can be, but this place can get super busy. Dining alone? Sit at the bar and watch TV. Dining in a group? There is an upstairs that doubles the room of the restaurant. Order with respect, as E-San joins Baan Thai in the spice department, treating the khn s khw as a "responsible investor" instead of putting a governor on the spice bottle. I come here once a week, whether I need it or not. Try the Pad Prik Khing for a solid classic, and if you're hungry, order the Thai Sausage Fried Rice - its fantastic, but a lot of food.

Love the pumpkin curry. That's what I come here for. Better curry at Lemongrass, but if you're downtown it's worth it - good lunch deals. Noodle dishes aren't bad. Better at the carts downtown. I don't have much else to say, it's decent.

I've visited Esan for lunch and dinner, and I think their lunch menu is where its at, as this place is on the pricey side for what it is. They give you enough food for leftovers though, and my favorite thing is that when you order HOT they giveittoya HOT. They also have this trio of hot sauces they can bring to your table upon request. As for dinner, it would be fine, but for the price I think you can get a nicer, more hip atmosphere. Lastly, the service has always been great when I've visited. Those ladies try really hard to keep a good attitude, even when they're slammed.

At E-San, what stood out as I gazed through the menu from the normal expected Thai dishes is "Nam Kao-- Crispy rice, peanut, ground meat or tofu, fresh Thai chili, mint leaves, lime juice. Served self-wrapped with green leaf lettuce". This is pronounced so that Nam that rhymes with Ham, and Kao as in "Cow!" Yes, with the exclamation point at the end. I haven't had this dish since I left Chicago (done by a friend's mom/my mom's friend), and it's not one you often see in Thai restaurants. This dish stands out because first, the rice formed into a ball and fried until crispy (so sorta similar to arancini) and then broken up and additional seasonings added. You know how in Mac and Cheese the top part and especially the corners are crispy or the bottom of the rice in Bibimbap thanks to the stone rice bowl? You have that in Nam Kao. Unlike the creaminess of mac and cheese or the spicy kick of Bibimbap, Nam Kao has a flavor profile that is a mix of sour thanks to a healthy dose of lime and then a bit of spice whiel the cilantro and lemongrass are kicking around too, and then you spoon and wrap the rice inside a lettuce leaf and as you bite in you get bits of nut sometimes in a bite. Not in E-San's version, but in other versions of what this (also known as Laotian crispy rice salad or fried rice ball salad) there is also pork sausage and coconut as part of the dish. This dish is definitely hands on, which I also like because it forces you to compose your dish yourself and take careful bites- all ways to make you savor your dish over time instead of eating too quickly.

This is one of the best Thai restaurants that I've ever had the pleasure of eating at. I use to work around the corner from there and ate lunch there at least 4 times a month. I measure Thai restaurants by alway ordering the same dish. Tofu Pad Thai, and E-San is the best in Portland. If you don't care about sitting down, head up to their cart (10th and Alder). Tofu Pad Thai is a larger portion and cost only $6.00 (use to be $5.00). Great deal on the tastiest Tofu Pad Thai you are likely to find in Portland.

Cool place. We made a reservation, but it probably wasn't needed on a Wednesday night as the space was a lot larger than it appears from the outside. Our server was a doll, he had a good sense of humor and was patient as my boyfriend and I undertook the negotiations necessary to order from their gargantuan menu. Part of what took so long for us to order was the large selection of delish sounding curries. Our starter was the beef satay with a very pleasing peanut sauce. We tried the pad phet with shrimp, a stir fried curry dish with eggplant, peppers and bamboo shoots. They nailed the perfect combo of flavor and heat with this dish. We also had the Kao mun gai which was a chicken and coconut rice with a ginger sauce, I'm not a huge fan of ginger, so this wasn't my favorite, but someone who really likes ginger (ahem, like my dining partner) will probably enjoy it. If you have read my other reviews, you know how strongly I feel about leftovers. Rest assured, a possible leftover deficiency in my diet was averted as the large servings resulted in plenty. This along with the best tap list I've come across at a Thai place in town and affordable prices and I'm a fan. Oh yeah.....

The only reason I'm giving this place that third star is because the Thai Beef Salad I waited for over 45 minutes on is really f*cking good. We walked in during a rush, I understand, but if someone had told us the wait was expected to go a little longer I could have gone somewhere else. I will probably go back and I would like the thank the woman that discounted our meal. That was really nice.

This place gets me every time! ITS SO GOOD!!! I am stepping out to say...it's probably the best Thai place in Portland. I've never gone and it not been great service/food. I switch it up and try new plates every time. My fiancé and I go pretty regularly and crave it all the time. Fast service too! I take out-of-towners here all the time and it always scores big!

Been here at least four times already and each time was never disappointing. Out of all their locations, I would say that the one downtown has the best quality of food and service. We first ordered the combination appetizer plate ($8), which consisted of fried tofu, chicken satay, fried wonton, and egg rolls. This appetizer was definitely not worth it at all. There was nothing exciting about it and did not blow my mind. The best thing about it was probably getting the peanut sauce. Then a pad kee mao with chicken and red curry with shrimp. These two entrees are never disappointing. For dessert, Mango Sticky Rice (seasonal): At first I was really confused by the color of the coconut cream in this dessert. All the Mango Sticky Rice I had even in Thailand had a creamy milky color to their coconut sauce, but this time it was clear and I was a bit skeptical. First bite in and I was pleasantly surprised by the sweetness of the mango. Everything complimented each other well, and the sweet mango we had helped cover up the fact that the coconut sauce was not creamy enough, but more sugary.

The food here is fine, not mind-blowing. But i have to say the service leaves a lot to be desired. I went in a few nights ago at about 7:30pm; there were only two tables occupied, and yet the waitress was running around like something was on fire, didn't even look at us or say hello when she brought water, and basically had ZERO bedside manner. I don't know what was creating so much stress in her world, but I couldn't believe how unfriendly she was. PS: this review is for the Denver Ave. location, NOT the SW..

E-San Gnat Cuisine? It's very hard to ignore all the gnats flying around the tables. Maybe I have super developed lenses that magnify these pest but when one wedged it's body under the cap of my nephews bottle, I almost ran into the kitchen with a bottle of raid. OK lets ignore the gnats. The food is very unpredictable, I've had some good things as well as terrible. We ordered the beef satay, I have never tried so hard to take a bite of something and just simply couldn't! And I am not one to send things back into the kitchen but something had to be said. When I told the waiter that it wasn't edible, he proclaimed, "ohhh, did you order the pork?" haha! the pork??? why, is that one just as bad?! THE NERVE!

Love this go-to Thai spot. Pad Phet is my signature dish - the mini eggplants get me every time. Laugh if you will, but I'm picky about my eggplant -- always overcooked and mushy as hell. Not at E-San. Really friendly staff. The new guy (red hair, tattoos) has been eating at this spot since he was 8. We love him. Go. Eat. Love.

I was pretty thrilled when I heard that E-San Thai has a food cart located on 10th and Stark. All the entrees are $5. There are a few appetizers like salad rolls, chicken satay, pot stickers, etc. The salad rolls are pretty fresh -- they are stuffed w/ shredded tofu and veggies. The warm peanut sauce was also very tasty. They have the typical Thai dishes there: soup, noodles and stir frys. You have a choice of chicken, tofu, or shrimp w/ each entree. Just because it's half as cheap at the food cart vs the restaurant doesn't mean that they cut short on the portions. The portion size is still the same. It's humongous, and I usually end up with two meals after one order. The pad kee mao and pad see ew tasted very smiliar for some reason. Maybe some spices were missing. The chinese sausage fried rice with basil was good too but was a little bit on the bland side. Tom Ka soup was little rich and lacked the sour taste. Their hot scale is not that intense. For me, I had to order super spicy to feel some heat. I think I like the taste a little better at the restuarant. E-San Thai food cart is not quite the exact copy as its orginal. I think, for the most part, it is that the ingredients are limited and the food has to be cooked fast. There is not enough time for details. It is basic Thai food but nothing that surprises me so much. That being said, I still like this place a lot. I would give it a 3 and 1/2 stars if I could. It is good value and convenient . The server is super friendly. I like food carts in general. The exciting thing about food carts is the waiting and anticipation of your food being cooked right in front of you. And the smell is usually delicious!

Consistantly good great food! Over the past 6 years of coming here, I have not been disappointed once. I have even been known to pick up an order and carry it home on the bicycle 10 miles away. Most recently I returned to Portland and made this the first destination for food. Ordered the pineapple fried rice (served in the pineapple), Pad Kee Maow, and Evil Prince. All super great. Occasionally we will over eat and get the mango sweet rice. Found some new items that we will be trying next time.

The decor here is a little like something out of a Kung Fu episode. I kept looking for David Carradine eating a veggie roll after doing some of his Shaolin Monk magic on some low grade punk. I love the Swimming Angel dish, with all seafood. I get it without the peanut sauce because they can't tell me if wheat is in it or not. Veggie rolls are standard. Service is Ok. I think the prices are OK. I have sampled the pad thai and it was good. I wish they had brown rice as an option.

I hate to give two stars to a place that has so much potential, but I have eaten here four times now and I can't justify a better rating. First, the good....The staff is amazingly friendly. The location is convenient and the prices are in the range that you would expect. Now, the bad...on 75% of my visits I have had to hunt for meat in the dishes I have ordered. And by hunt, I mean that of all the ingredients the meat made up maybe 10-15% of the total volume of the dish. Everything else was veggies. Now this would be fine if I was ordering a veggie dish, but if I order chicken...I want chicken. The taste of the dishes I have ordered, or more appropriately I should say the flavor....also leaves something to be desired although I am not exactly sure how to put it into words. Its just that other Thai places I have eaten are great, and this place is just so-so. One final note...as some have mentioned. I also noticed bugs flying around.

I work right down the street. This use to be our favorite Thai food place but within the last few months the food has been terrible. My noodles are white, no sauce at all. The service has also go down hill. We are suppose to get a discount since re refer people to them and the staff just rolls their eyes and claim they have not heard of this. I won't be referring people here anymore. Try the Thai down one more block it's awesome!!!

Finally! Perfect! Best Tom Yum soup so far! My husband often gets angry that I drag him to all these thai places in search of the holy grail of tom yum. He leaves dissapointed, sometimes a bit pouty, and once in a while, hungry from refusing to eat mediocre food. As we were eating, I mentioned a couple times, "And this is why I keep dragging us to thai restaurants." The holy grail has been located, and I enjoyed seeing it in his face. We had crab puffs, tom yum shrimp soup, and pad thai. The tom yum was delicious. Just what we've been searching for. Not too sweet, the right color, perfect flavor, even the vegetables were cut how we like them, from our dearly departed Eagle Thai. I see why Eagle Thai closed though, because unless you ordered 1 of 3 things, you were dissapointed. I have high hopes for other things at E-San. The pad thai was full of flavor, the perfect pad thai as well, with tender chicken that isn't all dried up like most places. I'm sad places have started giving lemon instead of lime, it's not the same, but no biggie. This place is cute, I love the atmosphere. Our service was good, and I look forward to calling in a lunch order soon. They don't have GIANT portions, but we still had leftovers, the prices are reasonable, and the quality and delicious factor definitely makes up for there not being a giant to go box. I've also ordered from their website, within 2 minutes, someone called to verify my order, and it was ready when I got there. Very convenient, and they deliver for dinner. It wasn't quite as tasty as the time we ate in, but still good, and very easy to pick up on the way home from work.

So yummy! Though it's not very convenient to us, we have been coming here for about 10 years at any opportunity or special occasion. We've tried all of the Thai restaurants closer to our home, but there is truly no comparison to the flavors that come from E-sans. Just dropped in again the other night and of course were not disappointed. Even the service has been incredibly consistent for us.

  • Scott V.

The service was awesome, but the food was so spicy that I couldn't eat it. Now, I like spicy food, and the server asked me what I wanted. There was no spice, little spice, spicy, extra spicy, and extra extra spicy. I went with spicy on my drunken noodles. Well, what came out couldn't have been that much more spicy and still edible by many people. I only had about three bites.

Om nom nom! This place was really fantastic. If you love tom-yum soup, order it here. The bowl is enough to serve four people but good enough for just one tom-yum soup fanatic to devour. I ordered the green-chili dish and was amazed. My only issue was that the medium spice was so hot that I could only take a few bites without going into cardiac arrest. I really love spicy foods, but this was borderline unbearable. My husband had the drunken noodle spiced hot; however, and that was definitely tolerable. Maybe the curry combination with the spice just threw my dish over the edge. All that aside, I'd try it again mild and love it, I'm sure. Great corner location and atmosphere, too!

I wasn't too thrilled. We went there for lunch and got sat upstairs in the dark (literally). I mentioned that it was too dark to read our menus and she pointed over to a light and said "you can go over there to read it." We were there about an hour and the waitress probably came by only 4 times. The pork I had was very dry.

Ate here twice when I stayed out in Portland and it was around the corner from the hotel...Great drink choices, not to mention a honey ale...Love love love the papaya salad which they make extra extra extra HOT---Do not get a spicy #10 hot unless you have milk steadily ready in hand to drink behind that ish...It is the business hot!!! Food was still amazing...They have this veggie stir fry dish with Chinese broccoli in it that is my go to dish...I was not disappointed with any of my dish options and will definitely eat here again...Nice spot to eat at but I took my food to go...

I had my doubts about this place, but was proved completely wrong, it was awesome! The night we visited happened to be a night where the wait staff was seriously short handed, and they were busy so it took awhile for us to get seated, but once we were seated service was great and everything came out quickly. I have to say that the two ladies that were working did an awesome job! One of them was even tending bar in a very full bar area part of the time! Our food was great and everyone really liked what they ordered. My fiancé got the mango curry, which was probably the best thing on our table. Seriously though major props to the wait staff, so many places in Portland have terrible and indifferent service even when fully staffed, so to see these ladies put in such an extra effort to get the job done was refreshing!

Best Thai in Portland, maybe beyond. My wife and I really enjoyed this restaurant. The service was fast and friendly, the noise level not overly loud and the location perfect for those staying in downtown. My wife had the mango curry which was fantastic but the Gang Massamun curry I ordered was the best version of this curry I've ever had. Sweet yet balanced with spice and cream, coconut as expected hinting at the base and perfectly par-boiled veggies. Excellent. They don't skimp on the jasmine rice either. Would go to again any day.

E-San has been my favorite Thai restaurant in Portland since about 2003. But honestly their major downfall is inconsistency. When their food is good, it's GOOD. But then they have their "meh" moments. And even then the food isn't bad...but it still makes me wish that I was there on a stellar day. Noodles are where it's at for me. I'm not a fan of curries or thai salads. I've had good stir-frys at many different restaurants, E-San is the same. Their Pad Kee Mao, Pad Thai, and Pad Gai are outstanding. Flavorful. Fresh. Veggies are always cooked well. The tofu absorbs all of the delicious flavors. I also really enjoy their thai fried rice and have heard great things from others about the pineapple fried rice. We almost always get the garlicky rice soup as an appetizer. It is majorly satisfying. Food temperature is always an issue when I eat out. Maybe I worked in food service for too long - but I know when my food is at a servable temperature. E-San has never let me down here. The food is ridiculously hot - just the way I like it. Aside from my last visit the service is a bit lacking. But give me some fabulous food and I'm a happy kid =)

This is my FAVORITE Thai place hands down. Not just in Portland, but favorite, period. Their pad thai is incredible. I wish I could find something in Chicago to compare. I have tried a couple of other things here as well, but can't really remember what. Their pad thai is what draws me here every time I come to town. You really won't need to ever look to another place for thai again after you've been here to savor E-San's cuisine in all its glory. They also have a location in Salem.

The food here is amazing! From the appetizers to the entrees, I have had nothing but good experiences here. The Thai beef salad, larb, fresh garden rolls, crispy trout, and Thai sausage are all great. However, I keep coming back for the nam kao and the kao mun gai. So good! There's rarely a wait and the staff are always super friendly.

I haven't been to a ton of Thai restaurants here in Portland (surprising, considering the number of them I pass on a daily basis) so I may not be the best judge, but in my view this is a really nice little Thai joint. Great Pad Thai and very accommodating to my absolutely-no-spice-whatsoever needs. I was especially pleased with the happy hour prices and portion sizes. The $5 pad thai was more than enough to fill me up. Friendly staff, clean restaurant, yummy food. Nothing extraordinary, per se, but a nice spot for a casual dinner with friends.

I've been here a few times and enjoyed it each time. I love how spicy actually means spicy here. Last time my friend and I ordered 3 dishes all "thai spicy" because we were underestimating their spiciness level, and it turned out to be a big mistake because I nearly cried during lunch and my stomach was oddly warm all day. My fav dish is Pad Ga Prau with chicken which has thai chili, garlic, and basil. I've tried a few of their dishes and all were pretty good. I don't think you can go wrong here.

I go here often. I'm a big fan of Thai food and this place has an amazing pad Thai and pad Kee Mao. I've brought friends who have enjoyed the seafood dishes and the sweet and sour chicken. There doesn't seem to be a good in between on spice level difference of medium plus and spicy. The servers are always friendly. Tip: enjoy five dollar dishes at happy hour with purchase of a drink!

Phenomenal food in a great atmosphere. Came in late, place was packed. The owner found us a place for 6 in the bar. The mixologist was extremely patient trying to keep the entire restaurant happy while taking our drink & food orders. I had the Evil Prince Curry (the name alone scared me straight) but the full flavor of the sauce, chicken & vegetables was only highlighted by the spiciness of the sauce. I highly recommend E-San & look forward to my next visit.

If your willing to sacrafice service for quality then this is your place. As it was stated to me today there system works for them. The fact that I had to get up to get a pitcher of water, my bill, a fork, the order was wong so I had it redone, only to get the plate dropped in front of me. No follow up, nouthing. none of that means anything to them. The hostess or whatever part she wanted to play today proceeded to argue with me about how bad her service was. The hostess told me if I don't like it then don't come back. And after 10 yrs of giving them my money. I won't anymore. If you want really good thai food And good customer service go to thai Bloom. It's the same cooks that use to work for Typhoon

E-San is the best Thai food in Portland. Period. I've gone to many and this is the one I always come back to. The staff is great! They are very nice and treat everyone with respect. Shout out to Mao, Mary, Oscar, Amber, Duncan, Jordan, and the rest of the staff for making this place the best. I am glad to be a regular at E-San!

We had dinner here while visiting Portland, and were just blown away. Everything was great. The service, the vibe and most of all, the food. We had thought we found some really good Thai food here in CT, but obviously we were greatly mistaken. The food here at E-San is above and beyond anything we've had on the East coast. As I've never been to Thailand I won't pretend I know what is, and what isn't considered truly "authentic". However, I can easily say that the food here was both fresh and delicious. Many thanks to our CT-native server, and the bartender who served up the outstanding cocktails that accompanied our meals.

Food was awesome, waiter forgot my spring roll order, but shit happens. I had red curry with chicken and I ate the entire thing because it was so good. I asked for medium hot and it wasn't spicy at all but I think being a new Oregonian, I am quickly figuring out that people here eat stuff a lot less hot then then East Coast. So, next time ill ask them to take it up a notch. My friend had the red curry with duck and he loved it but wanted just a bit more meat in it. little pricey, but for the location, that's pretty standard.

The pineapple fried rice is served with a pineapple cut out into a bowl. The pad-see eew was packed with flavors and spicy kick. Spicy means spicy here. I love spicy food but definitely would stick to a medium next time. Great service and they had the NBA playoffs on. I left my debit card by accident and called them the next day. I was able to go in and pick up my debit card.

Open late in the downtown area, E-San Thai was a fulfilling dinner. I got the #59 under specialties - crispy rice, tofu, green onions, peanut, lime, and cilantro lettuce wraps (make-your-own) plus a Thai iced tea. I asked for spicy and got weak, but they gave me spicy condiments (sriracha, chile oil, pickled Thai bird chiles). The flavor was great - loved the crunch and the citrus.

Met with a couple of friends for dinner and E-San's Thai Cuisine was highly recommended. We got in around 6pm and it was just starting to fill up on the main floor and bar. Noise level was average to a bit noisy - occasionally had to lean in or raise my voice. The Thai tea was delicious; I ordered mine hot with no cream and my friend Lauryn had the traditional iced. We ordered 2 Pad Thai plates (one of them spicy!), spicy Pad Se Ew, and Nam Kao. My Pad Se Ew was perfectly cooked, nothing charred black and the broccoli was al dente. My husband had the spicy Pad Thai and he liked it very much. He also liked my Pad Se Ew a lot; I think he ate half of my plate! Bob had ordered the Nam Kao, which I had not seen before. I've decided the next time we come here, that will be my dinner choice! Loved the decor of the restaurant and our server was very attentive, making sure everything was to our taste and our water glasses were filled. We had a window table and it was great to do some people watching. Parking in this area of downtown can be tricky and expensive, but understandable since there are a lot of restaurants and other attractions to experience.

Pretty good lunch spot on a work day. I had the chicken with rice and broccoli. The portion was large. I had a lot of chicken. It was BBQ and still on the bone. I liked the steamed rice and broccoli. It was a nice meal that I didn't feel too full after an it tasted healthy. They also have some really good hot tea! They kept it coming fast as I was slurping it down like a horse in the water trough. The waitress said it was there standard hot Thai tea. It had a nice sweet flavor. The service was a little slow but they were also packed so I guess it is a bit expected.

This is a regular place for us. It's pretty consistent, although today the top part of the food was quite tasty and as I dug down it got a bit bland. Hmmm . . . maybe my taste buds are going. I complained about lack of flavor at two of the last few places I dined at. I really don't think so, though. That fast food I've been having every day because it's tax season and I don't remember what home looks like still has plenty of flavor. Not the flavor of food, mind you, but still flavor. Anyway, I digress. The one thing that really bothers me about this place is the fact that they have some lower quality ingredients. They are the only place I've been that uses broccoli stems as the primary source of broccoli and I'm not a fan of that. The chicken didn't seem the highest quality, either. Plus they serve RC products. Who DOES that?? The food is usually well cooked and the sauce was really good (as I said, on the top - maybe it just needed to be mixed in, was I suppose to do that?) It still gets a four star for overall good experiences and I'd recommend it to a friend . . . if I had any.

The best Americanized-Thai I have had in Portland. There are a lot of authentic options for Thai food in Portland, probably more than just about anywhere stateside thanks to the Ricker empire and spinoffs. But sometimes I just want a plate of good old fashioned 1990's Pad Thai and this place delivers. Noodles are stir fried, not greasy, toppings are fresh and the flavor is there too. It's a food place, not a foodie place, so do not expect to be wowed, just satisfied by comfort and consistency.

I'm a Thai food snob. But nothing pleases me anymore when it comes to Thai food. And this place is the reason why. E-San has spoiled me. Seriously. No other Thai place that I, my wife, my kids, my clients... has ever been to compares to this place. When I'm in the mood for Thai and E-San isn't convenient (when I'm out of state, way across town, short on time, etc), I'm fully expecting to be disappointed anywhere else... and I'm never disappointed in my disappointment. I've not found it's equal... or any place even close. I wish I could! The quality of the food there is unmatched and the flavors of nearly everything are outstanding! Hint - Skip the cliche and obligatory Pad Thai and go straight for the Pad See Ew! Trust me on this. They do it FAR FAR better than anyone else on the planet. But if you're in the mood for something with rice, the Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice is INCREDIBLE. They serve it in... of all things... a hollowed out pineapple. It's their best selling entree for good reason. Seriously good food here. I'm not exaggerating when I say, this is the best Thai Food outside of Thailand.

Seriously, probably one of the best Thai places in PDX. Great, great Pad Thai. What separated this place from other Thai restaurants was the quality of their beef in Pad Thai. Some Thai places slice their beef so thinly that you can barely taste and enjoy them. E-San's beef slices are thick, juicy, and tasty. They accompany the rest of the dish very well. Good price. Interesting decor. (My friend pointed out that the dishes they use are very similar to the ones Mexican restaurants use. After looking at the design of the building, I think it was a Mexican joint before.) Although I'll come here for special occasions, I will hit up their food cart and enjoy their chicken Pad Thai for $5. (Their food cart does not sell beef Pad Thai. What a bummer...)

Nice decor food was sub par. I got Mussamum Curry it was decent but not good enough for my liking. I would expect a hospital cafeteria to make it to that quality not a real Thai restaurant. I have had this curry and many different curries and this one has by far been the least tasty. One thumb down one sideways.

My husband was relocated to Portland by his company, and when we came up to look at homes, we happened upon this place. We've been back three times already. Love it! I'm really picky about pad-thai. They do a really good job with it. It's not too sticky and saucy. The Pumpkin Curry is my favorite. My son loves their fried wontons. But then again they're fried, so what's not to love. The service is super friendly. The house we ended up in is not that close, but we don't care. We come anyway. It's one of our regular places for sure.

I'm not the kind of person who normally writes one star reviews, but the service here is absolutely terrible. It took over an hour and a half for my boyfriend and I to eat lunch here on a weekday. After our waitress took our order we didn't see her again until we went up to the counter to pay. During this time we saw the tables around us go through two or three groups of customers, but somehow we were forgotten. We were waiting so long that I had to go put more money in the parking meter (though I wish we had just left instead). The food was mediocre to bad and they were out of bananas (really?) and wouldn't serve us coffee even though it was on the menu. We waited a good 15 minutes for someone to bring us the check (which never happened) but I noticed the minute we got up someone came to clean off the table. The only reason we came here was to use a Groupon, which we then found out we couldn't use at lunchtime. It did say that in the fine print, but they were really rude about it and unapologetic when I complained about how slow the service was. Groupon refunded me after I told them about the terrible service, so I'll never have to go to this dump again.

Had dinner the other night with a friend. He couldn't make up his mind, and when he did he couldn't pronounce it. Our waitress was sweet and entertaining about waiting, listening to us butcher her language. The food was better than the last time even though the portions seemed smaller than I remembered, but when I couldn't finished I realized they knew this. It wasn't the greatest Thai food ever, but definitely better than most. Great location.

My cousin and I came here for lunch during their Happy Hour (3-6pm, I think). We were seated promptly and the waitress was very friendly. Nice atmosphere. Clean. A good place to go for lunch with a buddy or two or three. Maybe take your date there. We ordered Chicken Wings, Thai Beef Salad, Pad Thai, Pad Ga Prau, Thai Iced Tea, and a Pomegranate Cosmo. We thought the dishes would be tiny since we ordered off the Happy Hour menu. Can't expect much from a few bucks, right? Boy were we wrong! Each dish had a fair portion of food. Just one dish could've been my lunch and I might even still have leftover. ~ Chicken Wings ~ Very crispy. There was no trace of sogginess anywhere. That entire outside of each wing was just crispy. The inside was sweet and juicy. Fabulous whether eaten by itself or dipped in their sweet-and-sour sauce. Even though I'm a pescatarian, I couldn't help but have 2 pieces. There were 5 good-sized wings and it was only $2.50. 50 cents per wing! ~ Thai Beef Salad ~ Fresh mix greens salad with plenty of beef. I didn't eat the beef so I'm clueless about it. The salad was delicious and light. The dressing was interesting. I think it was a lime juice + salt dressing (and maybe something else). There was no oil. Make sure the salad is well-tossed so the lime-salt is evenly distributed, otherwise...it's not too bad, somewhat like licking the rim of a martini glass. ~ Pad Thai ~ Very flavorful. Sweet and salty. A bit too salty for my taste. The noodles weren't clumped or dry. There was just about the right amount of sauce. It's probably not authentic, but it was delicious. It's really hard to compare this pad thai with the other pad thais that I've tried -- they range from lime sour-ish to ketchup sour-ish to curry-ish to spicy to bland. It was good though. ~ Pad Ga Prau ~ Stir-fried mushrooms, red bell pepper, green bell pepper, onions, green onions, and chicken in lemon grass and a sweet brown sauce. I like how the vegetables wasn't overcooked. ~ Thai Iced Tea ~ Very good. Try it! ~ Pomegranate Cosmo ~ Like fruit punch. Everything added up to only $24! Everything was delicious (and sweet...maybe it'd be even better if less sugar was used). :)

We have found Yelp so useful in our restaurant choices. This is the first review I have ever written. I had the crisp rice dish mentioned above. It WAS very good. The atmosphere and service were also good. My husband's curry selection was NOT so good. It had 3 pieces of chicken a huge load of boiled potatoes and an average sauce. My advice be sure to read the side vegetables if you want something green and crunchy to go with your sauce. Because of that 2 stars is all this place gets. Probably would not go back with so many other Thai places to choose from.

We had friends order our food because we were running late so we were going in totally blind but the food was beyond amazing! Bought a travelzoo coupon..phoned the restaurant the day prior to make a reservation. Was advised a reservation was not needed and at best would have a 10min wait. Arrived and refused to honor coupon. We were from out of town and explained all this. The manager was extremely rude and had my daughter in tears even though the restaurant was 1/4 full. Expected to make more money as brewfest was happening!...DEFINITELY AN UGLY EXPERIENCE!

Yummy yummy... this is a fantastic Thai place in downtown. Fantastic and potentially dangerous, capable of causing major internal damage. Did I say hot? Oh yes, they can make it "burn your ass on both ends" hot! If you ask for it they will cause you pain, twice! The evil prince curry is lovely and their pad thai was excellent. I also really enjoyed the egg rolls. I know what a kind of pedestrian thing to try, but I have to tell you, they were tasty. Beware the wrath of the chef when ordering thai spicy, they deliver!

This may not be very fair, because I only went once, but this restaurant failed me in basically every way, so I had no interest in going back, especially as the prices seemed high. When I first arrived, we waited about 10 minutes to be seated. This would be fine if there was a wait, but the restaurant was less than half full. The hostess/waitress was standing about 5 feet away, looking directly at us, and talking on the phone. Multiple other employees also passed by us. Normally I would have left, but we were very hungry, and new in town so we didn't want to wander around hunting for another place. Once we were seated, the drink menu did not seem very appealing, so I ordered a simple rum and coke. When my drink was brought much later, it was some bizarre mix of grenadine and I don't know what. I pointed it out, and the waitress at first told me it was correct, and then replaced it. The food itself (we ordered several appetizers, a curry, and a noodle dish) was all rather bland, and overcooked. Maybe it was an incredibly off night, but I was surprised by just how bad the food and service was, especially in retrospect, now that I know how much good Thai food there is in Portland.

This is my favorite Thai in Portland. I first ate here within a matter of a month of moving to Portland. I have yet to find a Thai place that I like as well. Our standbys on the menu are the Tomkha Soup with shrimp, Pad Ruam Mit, Pad Khing, Pad Ga Prau, Evil Prince, Pad Thai and Fried Rice. We often do tofu in many of the options but I appreciate that when we do put meat in, it's not "scary" (the chicken is breast meat and lean, the pork is lean, etc). I love how fresh the vegetables are (the fried rice doesn't have the peas and carrots combo that most of us ate in the hot lunch line at grade school--and many Thai places seem to do) and the fact that they don't overcook them. I've eaten here many times for lunch, dinner and takeout and have yet to be disappointed. The service is always friendly and the food usually tends to be ready quickly (although the last time I had lunch there it took them forever to serve us our lunch--on the other hand, they were PACKED on a Friday at 12:30). All in all, I really don't think E-San can be beat in this city.

For whatever twist of blissful fate, Portland has been blessed with crazy delicious (aroy!) Thai food. But what some people don't know is that there are stealth dishes from Laos on the menu at E-san. Although I moved away from Portland a couple years ago, I head back to Stumptown as often as I can. One of the first places I try to hit up is E-san for the Lao dish, Nam Khao Tod. Basically, it is a unique take on fried rice - but that description fails to explain how astronomically delicious it is. Just give it a try - I usually order it with chicken, although my vegetarian friends report the tofu version is just as pleasing. I actually am not a big fan of the rest of their food, but with a plate of Nam Khao Tod in front of me, I don't need anything else (til the next meal)!

Love this place. Practically every planning meeting for the Ignite Portland events happened here. I always get the same thing - #16 Pad Thai, beef, mild, no onions, but that's because I'm a creature of habit. Everything there looks yummy. Service is good, and they've earned a place as a "favorite" - I imagine there will be lots more opportunities for me to voyage in from the suburbs on the MAX to eat at E-San. :-)

This place was good .. The phad Thai was great with enough spice great portion and great quality. The water tasted very very bad which made it harder for me to enjoy my meal but overall I will probably only go there of it's convenient . No special trips back

Been going to E-San for years, and I can't get enough of the Pad Kee Mao - shrimp or pork. I've also had their curries and Tom Yum soup, and everything is delicious, but I keep going back to those noodles! Tons of fresh flavors, and a perfect balance throughout. These guys don't skimp on good veggies, either. Like I said, balance. If you do take-out, the internet order system is pretty handy, too.

i miss working mere blocks from this place... the food is well-priced, YUMMY, and considering how crazy-busy the place gets, the staff does a fair job of keeping things running smoothly. lunchtime can get intensely packed given their extensive, yummy, affordable lunch selection - so go early - and NOT on fridays, when everyone and their admin-assistant's assistant floods the place.

OMG! Love this place! They have the best fried rice inside a pineapple cut in half! You have to order this when you eat here! There is numerous authentic Thai dishes and they can add any amount of spice you prefer! Oh and you have to try Thai iced tea~ So good! The place has a nice homey upscale feel to it and they have a full bar with anything you can imagine! There is even a space upstairs for private parties! Its great for a dinner with your family or cocktails with your friends! Also the staff is super nice and friendly! Everyone seems to be helping out so You can ask anyone to order from and they are all smiling while you do it! I had this girl, Jessica serve us the food and she was so helpful and attentive! They have the place wonderfully decorated with a Christmas tree and fresh flowers! Just adds to the nice ambiance.

Went there for dinner on Sunday with another family. We ordered a 'pineapple fried rice' and 'combination appetizer' for the kids. The fried rice comes loaded inside of a half pineapple and is fun to look at. They were a good choice. We also ordered the 'pumpkin curry' for the kiddie as he doesn't like coconut milk and the menu doesn't mention 'coconut milk' as an ingredient (it does for other curries), but actually it does have it in and also is quite spicy. I ended up eating it.

There is a food cart with the same name as this restaurant, and it makes me wonder if some of the high reviews were intended for the food cart! Also not to be mixed up with E-San Thai Cuisine in North Portland as well as NW Portland. The papaya salad was not the best I've had, as it could have used fresher ingredients. The tofu in my green curry was spoiled. I only bit into it halfway before I could detect the foul taste and spit it out. I tried tasting another piece, but it was the same. I tried explaining to the server that I wanted to change my order to another dish, but she took away the plate and ordered me the same dish. This time, the tofu was noticeably fresher looking and tasted fine, but the curry itself was not appetizing. I tried some of my friend's Pad Kee Mao and it was way greasy and did not leave me craving more. We came here in the daytime and it was not busy, but the servers rarely came near our table. This restaurant has neat decor, but the food is not worth coming back for and the service negligent.

So two months ago we ate there and the food was substandard. Asked if they do delivery. Ohh yes we do. Call for delivery and its a FIFTY dollar minimum. Thats a shitty customer service. It say delivery on Yelp, Their own website, and when asked in a dining experience. Their excuse "We only do catering, It has to be worth the owners while.". Dear Owner do what you say you will do.

I went here as part of an ongoing experiment in tasting as many Thai restaurants in Portland as possible. Walking into the place, we thought it looked pretty cool with a lot of space and a cool setting. The host nonchalantly asked us "2?" and begrudgingly walked over to our table. There was no "right this way" or indication that we should follow him. He gave the impression that he didn't really care to seat us one way or another. We ordered our meal from a nice waitress. The papaya salad was very spicy, a tad bit on the too spicy side. That might have been our mistake though, we wanted it spicy enough and some places don't know their spices. This place definitely has spice. Our food arrived and my girlfriend took one bite of her green curry and had to spit it out. The tofu was spoiled. It was kind of gross looking too with a layer of yellow goop on the outside. She sent it back and the waitress brought another plate with no spoiled tofu this time. My Pad Kee Mao was ok, but a little on the goopy side with too much grease. There were lots of crunchy broccoli in both our meals which i've never encountered before in curries and Pad Kee Mao. I don't know if this was just a fluke, but i don't think we'll be returning here anytime soon.

The tom kha soup was soooo good. Also got the pork lettuce wraps, pork Penang curry, and the app sampler. Everything was delicious and spicy without being overwhelming. I'll definitely be returning to try some other stuff since their menu is huuuuuge!

Arguably the best Thai food I have had in Portland. I am a Curry-Head and boy can they make a good Panang. If you feel adventurous and want to embarrass the people you are dinning with, be sure to order the "Gang-Bang". I am sure the waitstaff get's tired of the joke but the dish is really good (at least for the one ordering it). The dinning room is rather large with many seats so don't worry about getting a table on a weekend night. E-San has been a must-stop for my Portland trips for years and will be for the foreseeable future.

Awesome Thai food place! So far everything we've tried we have loved...be careful on the spice level you order...their scale is different than most Thai places...if you say extra hot...trust me your mouth will be on fire...but so yummy!!!

WHAT IN THE WORLD!? What a mistake. This place is NOT good, nor is it authentic. Item 1) Fried Egg Rolls - decent. Item 2) Veggie Fried Rice with Shrimp - YUCK Their fried rice was so greasy that it left yellow grease all over our plate. The taste was nothing like authentic Thai fried rice, more like a low end fast food, cheap Chinese restaurant, and last but certainly not least, the shrimp was absolutely disgusting. It was not fresh and tasted dirty. I don't even know how to explain it since I've never had such bad shrimp before. It tasted like they literally pulled it out of a bucket of dirty water, and it had this bad fish taste. This plate was not worth $13. If you want really good authentic Thai food, do not waste your money here, I'm sure you can get equal quality food for way cheaper some where else.

I've been coming to E-San for years, for some reason I've yet to write a review, probably because I'm too busy eating their food. To start, E-San is true to the spice levels. Some places you go and order 5 stars and it tastes like 1. Not the story here. I ordered 5 stars and I could barely eat it today. As in I felt like my mouth got burnt and I was sweating bullets. So glad I wasn't on a date, how non sexy is that? I do think they have alternating chefs, one with a much more heavy hand on the chili peppers. Some days the 5 star is perfect, others I am drinking an entire iced tea for every bite. The food here is very tasty and is home to a few of my favorite made thai dishes. Their 'Pad Woon Sen' is to die for. Basically its a silver noodle dish stir fried with vegetables, tofu or meat. I usually order it with both veggies and tofu for an added dollar. Get it with 4 stars and we're in business! Next comes the 'Pad Kee Mao' with beef. In my opinion beef goes best with this dish, as it's very rich in flavor and the basil really goes well with it. It's not my favorite place that makes it but it's second runner up. Finally comes the well known 'Pad Thai' dish. E-San actually makes my favorite pad thai. The noodles are flavored great without being too saucy or too dry. Fresh ingredients and large portions. As a starter I like getting the 'Sleeping Prawn' -- which is prawn wrapped and fried in wonton skin, served with sweet chili sauce. Mmm. Basically I've never had bad service or food here. I just left from having happy hour. $5 dishes and decent portions. $2 draft beers, $4 well drinks.... a great deal! I've only been for lunch/dinner hours and I left wondering why I'd never done happy hour before. You can bet you'll be seeing me here between 3:30 and 6 more often! And if you're a sports fan, they always have the current game playing on the bar side :)

E-san has some bomb thai food. So good that it beats probably almost anything that even Seattle has, asides from Vienthong that is. I'm a big fan of eating and cooking thai food and now I'm so glad that I've found someplace that makes pretty authentic outside-of-Thailand cuisine that I don't have to do myself. They make the best pineapple fried rice that's served in a pineapple husk, really delicious phad thai and the spiceness is spot on. Their lunch portion is very generous that we even had leftovers to eat for dinner the next night. Thanks to my amazing friend who introduced me to this great place during a recent roadtrip from Seattle!

Finally got around to trying out E-San. Partner and I shared some veggie summer rolls, shrimp tom-kha (coconut-lemongrass soup), and tofu green curry. Summer rolls were your standard fare; I like the peanut sauce, but nothig to write home about. Good price though: $3.95 for 4 big pieces. Tom-Kha was ordered spicy... they fully delivered on that request. The steamy nature of the soup worked the spice into my sinuses, and I was coughing after the first bite. I slowly recovered and was able to keep going. Flavors were good, but it was basically some shrimp (didn't taste very fresh), and onions in broth. No carrots, celery, bell peppers, nothing but onion and shrimp. Felt kind of cheated. Green Curry was also ordered spicy, and again they delivered. I love the little green eggplant. This dish had it's fare share of veggies... Maybe if you order something with meat or seafood they omit the veggies at E-San... not sure, but if I go back and order soup, I'm going to make sure and get it vegetarian in the hopes that there's more to it than broth and onions! Would like to try the food cart they have, it always seems packed at lunch, and the prices seem better.

This place has a large menu and reasonable prices. The tofu curry was really spicy, which is surprising to find. When I go to most Thai restaurants they don't take my request for extra spicy seriously, but these guys bring the heat. The service was nice too.

I stopped in here for dinner with a group of friends a few nights ago. Beth H. chose, as this is her favorite Thai restaurant in Portland, and I was more than happy to try a new place. Our group of friends are pretty boring when it comes to Thai food, so three of our party ordered mild Chicken Pad Thai. I opted for a Massuman Chicken curry, because I like to try this dish at all new Thai places, and opted to add pineapple to the dish as well. Lisa G. went with a Garlic Chicken dish, packed with green beans and huge chunks of mushrooms. Thankfully, she hates mushrooms, so I was able to pop them from her plate into my mouth with no struggle. Jaime L. ordered a plate of Chicken Fried rice for everyone to share, but unfortunately for them I quickly comandeered it, and pushed my Massuman to the side to be boxed up for left-overs. The Massuman made great left-overs, but the rice was especially good. I feel sorry for anyone who expected to get more than a bite off the plate, because I definitely claimed it with my spoon. The service was average, though the place was super busy and seemed a little short-staffed; I felt a little bit bad for our server. This place was decent overall, but nothing so special to get me racing back.

Pineapple fried rice is delicious, pad Thai, and pad see ew are all winners. Make sure you enjoy a beverage from the bar as well . Salad rolls and appetizers are all good as well. Lunch pricing is very affordable as well. Make sure you enjoy a stop here.

Came here for a late dinner. I'm glad they were open and the people were so very nice; however, I was not blown away by the pineapple fried rice that everyone is raving about. It did have a lot of nice veggies and spice, but it needed a bit more flavor. I probably should have grabbed some soy sauce (that might have actually made the difference), but it was a to-go order, so I forgot to ask. The tofu they added was nice, and when I did encounter some egg or a cashew, I enjoyed it, but otherwise, I don't think this was worth coming to unless there's an emergency.

I love me some E-San Thai. When I lived in No-Po, I ordered too much to-go from here. It's kinda totally my favorite Thai place. Now I'm in Hillsboro so E-San is quite the distance. Regardless, if I can get here I'm eating here! First off, the crab puffs are ah-mazing. AH-mazing. Crispy & stuffed with crab, yes please and thank you politely. I can't imagine coming here and not ordering some. Next - Thom Kha. Just plain tasty. I love this soup in so many Thai places but with the shrimp and the right mmph of spice, YUM. And then, of course, the Pad Thai. I have learned that I don't like seafood in my Pad Thai. I don't think it's because it's poorly prepared, I just don't want it near my PT. However, pork, chicken and such as just so damned tasty here I cannot resist. And of course, the portions are generous and take home some sized. ...So here's what took E-San to five stars. Our waitress. She was bubbly, sweet, knew what she was talking about and prompt. She never interrupted us, but made sure we were taken care of. And here's the icing on the cake - we had some leftovers to take home. I was in charge of remembering them. I did not....until we go to the car. I skedaddled back to E-San thai but they were closed and doors locked. I made a sad pouty face and trudged back to the car - leftovers a lost cause. WRONG. Our waitress came running out with our box to make sure we had them. It's a small thing really, but she was sure enthused about making sure we took home our food I was just pleased as punch. In a city that has so much Thai options, this kind of service really sticks out in my mind for always.

Here's all I need to say about the Pad Thai: the "extra, extra hot" that I ordered was so spicy that I felt compelled to warn the homeless person who asked for my leftovers. I loved it.

The staff here is so very friendly! That's enough of a reason to come here, but throw in a unique menu with things like pumpkin curry (which I've never seen before) and a tasty meal and it's well worth a visit if you're in town!

The food was good, nothing spectacular. I ordered the appetizer combo, my husband got the basil fried rice, and my sister got the pad see yew. We enjoyed it all. The thai iced coffee was good as well. 4 solid stars, but they lose 1 star for service. They were extremely understaffed and our 1.5 hour lunch could've easily been half of that. We waited for service much longer than we actually ate our food. Too bad.

As a family from Vegas on a foodie tour of the Northwest, the happy hour offerings were easily the best value on our trip. Though more limited than the regular menu, the selected items were varied enough for the different tastes of our family. Parking was really easy if you chose to come for happy hour after 9p. The wait staff were friendly and accommodating. We loved this place enough to have eaten here each day we were in Portland.

They get 4 stars because I've only been there once but WOW, the food was delicious! We got the pad kee mow (drunken noodles) with tofu, and it was very flavorful I just wish they used larger pieces of tofu. I also ordered scallops with green beans and mushrooms (no idea what it was called) in a garlic sauce, seriously one of the best dishes I have ever had in my life, amazing! The only thing I wish and it would have made it perfect is if they used SEA SCALLOPS instead of BAY SCALLOPS. The little scallops are not bad and they put a lot in the dish just sea scallops are so much better. Just make sure if you order this it isn't a first date or something because your breath is going to be kickin from all the garlic! The service was great, even though they brought out one wrong dish she immediately noticed it and had the kitchen make the right dish right away. It's very nicely lit, very comfortable, clean and inviting. It's right across from Kel's Irish Pub, so right there in one of the boozey areas of Portland. This is the first thai restaurant I've tried in Portland and I can't wait to come again.

Six of us had visited the waterfront for Fleet Week, and by the time the last tour ended, we were very hungry. A show of hands decided that Thai would be on the menu for an afternoon lunch. After a short walk up from the ships, we stepped in the front door. Because we had a large party, they asked if we had called in to make reservations, and I said I had not. They made due by sliding together two of the half booth tables and this worked out just fine. Half of us ordered the Thai Iced Tea, and it was very delicious. Nice and sweet, if a bit smaller of a glass than I'm used to. I had ordered two orders of the Egg Rolls, because one would not have been nearly enough for us. Everyone loved them when they came, but I found them to be rather average. The sweet and sour sauce had little bits of ...well...nuts? crushed crispy noodles? I am not sure, and no one seemed to know or care, so I left well enough alone. As always, I ordered Red Beef Curry, spicy, with no eggplant. I was very disappointed that it was neither spicy nor even temperature hot when it arrived. Maybe it was because they had brought all six of our orders out at once, which means mine had probably been the first done and had been sitting in wait. This was very sad, but I was very hungry and just ate it. My dad, my daughter, my friend and her son all ordered the Pad Thai, and all ate it right up. I don't remember what my step mom ordered, but it had noodles and veggies and managed to disappear with the help of my dad. No one wanted to order dessert, so we skipped it. On the walk back to the parking garage, many comments on the food were made, all positive, so I'd be willing to go in for a round two in the future.

At this point I've eaten my way around most of Portland's Thai restaurants. How does E-San measure up? Solidly in the top half of the middle. What does that mean? Well, the food is very good, but nothing blew me away. Nothing I put in my mouth made me open my eyes wide and go "holy cow, but that was incredible". It's solid, but it's standard, and the prices are on the high side of standard. Still, the decor is lovely, the service is great and the food is definitely yummy. We had the pad khee mao and the pad prik khing, both with tofu, both medium-spiced and they were both very tasty. I saw several Thai families dining out for special occasions as well, and that's always a good sign.

It's 9:30 PM and I'm craving thai food. Decided to give these guys a try given that they were the only thai in the area that I could find open. The staff who took my order over the phone was extremely friendly. I took my food to go and they were fast preparing. I had the Pad see ew. It had good flavor and the portion was large. Prices are average. It satisfied my "late" night craving.

My boyfriend brought me here for Valentine's Day this year and we were both pleasantly surprised. It was our first time here so we weren't sure what to expect. The place was packed but we had a reservation and were sat immediately at a table for two. Nice decor and interesting things to look at everywhere. We were both practically drooling over our plates. The peanut sauce left nothing to be desired and the cocktails were fantastic. We are definitely looking forward to returning here. One star lost for particularly slow service, but then again it was a holiday dinner rush. After our next visit I may be inclined to update this review and add that 5th star!

So this place gets pretty packed for lunch on a Friday. Maybe it happens on a Thursday too. With so much Thai food in town, I was surprised to see such a crowd here when I met a friend for lunch in the noon hour. Pretty crazy. Along with my Thai Iced Tea (very good) I had the Mussumun with beef. Mussamun curry with peanut, potato, carrots and onions in coconut milk cooked with your choice of meat or vegetarian. I ordered it hot, but apparently hot here means not hot. It was heat hot, but definitely not spicy hot. It was all very good. Can't say it was the best Thai food I've had in Portland, but not the worst Thai food either. Nice sized portion to cost of portion ($8.50). It felt like it took a long time for our food to arrive at our table and we did have to ask once if we were forgotten. Within a minute or so of asking our food did arrive. My review is boring. Read someone else's review.
