Great donuts. Great breakfast entrees. Inexpensive prices. Also, quite possibly the friendliest service one could reasonably expect from any restaurant. The co-owner, Penny, usually operates the front counter and genuinely attempts to converse with everybody. She treats every guest like family and actually remembered my name as well as my food order after my first visit. Very impressive! The food is wonderful. I am a huge fan of the breakfast burger, and Penny instructs the cook to prepare it "special" for me (free of charge) because she remembers that I like my food extra spicy. That is the definition of an owner caring about her customer. Support this local family and their business! They deserve it.

Clerk kinda rushed me, but I was the only one in the store? Weird. Donut-wise? Ok, yes, they have a wide selection, but food isn't much if its delivered with sloppy service. I asked for a glazed donut but was disappointed to discover I had been issued a plain (although edible) variety instead. I had asked about the ingredients of another item and the clerk responded with, "This one?" and proceeded to plop it in the bag. Anyone with serious food allergies knows how frustrating it is when service personnel dismiss your inquiries regarding ingredients. (Because anaphylaxis isn't that big of a deal...) I dunno...its just wrong order in combination with the clerk's impatience sort of rubbed me the wrong way. True, a well-known nearby donut shop might be a little "gimmicky" but I've never seen VD2 staff get short on service even when their line trailed out into the parking lot...#justsayin

I have ALWAYS wanted to try this place, but I always seem to drive past in the late afternoon or evening when they are closed. Not sure exactly when they close, but it is early. I got lucky and cruised in before noon this time. They have really really good classic donuts here. They all looked "Delicious". I tried two and they were both just great. Nice people, too. If you want a great tasting donut and not a gimmick like VooDoo, you owe it to yourself to check this place out.

Me, a virgin bear clawer, this place the fourth best donut place in town. Ignore the daily laborers all around the area and just walk right in. I could taste the apple and, I think, the peach in my bear claw. It was huge (just like she said :) ). It had slight cake taste to it that was just the icing on the top. This place is a winner. We'll be back!

  • Amy A.

We stopped here real quick to get donuts while watching the Rose Festival Parade and come to find out I attended high school with the owners. Anyway...the donuts were fresh and tasty and the service was quick. I would definitely come back here if in the area...

  • Carl L.

Not the best donuts in town, but worth a quick stop.

  • Jan M.

    they really are delicious!

  • Grace M.

Unbelievable! Penny and her husband made 15 dozen assorted doughnuts for our wedding, they were on time, high quality, VERY reasonably priced, and even donated more than we bought! I couldn't speak more highly of their service and quality of doughnut. Don't bother with the over priced well known doughnut shops in PDX, this is where you'll find quality!

    (5)
  • Julie G.

Best donuts in town and the owners are super sweet. They sell out at times, rightfully so. The old fashioned, all variations, are ridiculously good. They should be called ridiculously delicious donuts.

I never would have noticed Delicious Donuts (as their sign so eloquently states) as it is adjacent to that inexorably puzzling Plaid Pantry that is frequented by all manner of unsavory types. However, we happened to be stumbling past en route to Ararat from the Doug Fir at the witching hour (midnight), when suddenly our senses were overtaken by one of the most delicious smells on earth, that of freshly baked and frosted donuts, emanating from behind the Plaid Pantry/Delicious Donuts building. Like helpless creatures in a tractor beam, we drifted inevitably towards the front doors of Delicious Donuts. To our horror, the lights were dark, the display cases empty, and our eyes settled on the brutal addendum to the closed sign: "DONUTS SOLD OUT." Wailing and rending of garments ensued. As we turned away, defeated, we heard that magical sound of a door opening. "Wait," cried an angelic voice behind us, "we have donuts if you want." We turned to see a cherubic donut bakeress. Her ebon tresses glinted in the moonlight. She beckoned us into Delicious Donuts, where a heavenly light glowed from the back door, silhouetting a rack that had been wheeled out, laden with row upon row of freshly baked donuts. "Which flavor do you want? How many?" Watching stupefaction creep across our faces, as sheer awe and bewilderment overtook us, she offered us a mixed dozen. "Yes, PLEASE!" we said. "You ever want donuts-even when we're closed-come in the side door," she told us warmly. As I took a chocolate old fashioned (my preferred donut choice - not too doughy), its warmness in my hand filled my entire body with a thrill. Sinking my teeth into its crisp outside, meltingly sweet chocolate glaze, and soft steaming inside, I experienced a rare bliss. Never had I had such a delicious donut in Portland. Not at Annie's on NE Fremont. Not at cloyingly sweet Voodoo, in its flagship store or various other bakeries & cafes around town. Here, in Delicious Donuts, I had found donut bliss. Mmmmmmmm.....dooooonut.

Tucked into the corner of this itty-bitty strip of stores, Delicious Donuts is a hidden treasure. I first heard about this place while visiting my ex-in-law's church, of all places, when the minister actually encouraged the congregation to visit the place (but not on Sunday, of course). Since it's on the way to my kids' school, we decided to stop by and by golly, that minister was right about one thing... these donuts are like heaven on earth. Delicious, they are. Light and not too oily. They're wonderful. Now that I've realized I'm gluten-intolerant I can only smell their glory, but the kids eat them on a semi-regular basis. They're less than a buck a piece and really are the best donuts in town.

  • Jess A.

I stop in about once or twice a month. Owners Penny and her husband, are the nicest people to ever serve me a donut. The place always smells incredible and if you get there early enough the selection is so amazing that I'm sure you'll buy more than you could eat! They have an amazing donut, the buttermilk bar. I can't even begin to describe how great this thing is. When I walk in, they don't even have to ask, if there are any left, they hand them over. A delicious donut indeed, the chocolate bars, maple bars, blueberry, cream filled, giant apple fritter, or beautifully folded bear claw, any choice seems to be a good one. Just hope the window doesn't display "sold out" when you get there.

Amazing donuts and super quick service. Safeway was not open and I needed to get some donuts so I stopped and got some. Good flavor and small tasty spins on some original recipes. They did not have a huge selection but the ones they had left me wanting more. A couple miles out of the way headed to work but so worth it. The filled donuts are so good. They much add someone to the filling, just as sweet as a normal filled donuts but slightly more tastier. The right amount of sweet and tastiness.

  • Ben C.

yes, best donuts in the city (in my limited experience so far). infinitely better than those charlatans up the street on Sandy blvd. they sell out quick, get there early before the PPB shift change!

    (5)
  • Diana T.

These doughnuts live up to the name. Always fresh and great flavor while keeping it simple. Way better than Voodoo which is over-hyped for what they are. I love the custard filled maple bars. Yummers! Get there early as they do run out.

    (5)
  • Heather T.

There's a reason you latecomers miss out... Great products sell out! Their moniker is a perfect description of their product. The buttermilk bars and old fashioned donuts are AMAZING. Try the maple varieties for over the top perfection! Perfectly fried, moist and cakey in the center... quality and oh so tasty. No food coloring, koolaid or gimmicks for shock value- just damn good classic donuts. Excellent customer service and super friendly, too!

  • Jeffro C.

Awesome. No cereal needed on these donuts! A nice little shop that reminds me of home. Simple, fresh and very, very tasty donuts. They don't mess around with novelty toppings. The coffee is pretty decent, also. Tip: Get there early because they sell out of donuts every day. Pay attention to the hours. Also great for late-night munchies.

    (5)
  • Meg T.

You don't realize how overrated some of the more popular donut shops in town are until you eat a donut that actually tastes good! This shop lives up to the name, delicious is what they are. So you can wait in line in the rain for over two hours for a half stale donut with cereal on it...OR go here next to the sketchiest Plaid Pantry in PDX for a taste of fluffy heaven!

  • Krista G.

Popped in here to get some donuts before a long day working a local craft fair. It was 15 minutes to close so the pickings were slim but there were still a few blueberry old fashions and that is what I had heard were the bomb! They were! Crunchy sugary goodness outside moist yummy blueberry inside, so dam good! The maple bar also had me making obscene noises as I wolfed it down. The sugar high afterwards was awesome!

  • Jack C.

At last real donuts, crispy on the outside, cakey on the inside, flavorful and yummy, clearly made from a recipe, not a commercial mix. I'll say right off that I love me a Dunkin' Donut (original style) when it's fresh. That gives you some idea of my perspective. The donuts here are crispy and soft in right places and so yummy tasty. I had an apple fritter, which was full of apples, crisp on the outside without being super sugary. Hers was a chocolate cake with peanuts, and it was fantastic. I have to say, if this is the level of goodness here all the time, they are going to have Tonalli's, Sesame, Acme, Annie's, Coco's, and Blue Star all beat in terms of the quality of the basic donut. I didn't even want to mention the horrifying tourist dreck at VD in that same list, but you know what I mean there, right?

    (5)
  • Shon K.

Quality junk food from some amazing people. Delicious and Annie's are by far the best donuts in town. You can try to put a VooDoo spell on me, but nothing is as tasty as the sugary confections from Delicious D! They sell out in the morning they are so good so get there early

I've attempted to purchases donuts from this place 4 times now... so far all I've gotten is a bagel. I went here once at 10:30am, 9:00am, 8:30am, & 7:30am (all on weekdays when they are open till 1pm). When I arrived both at 10:30 and 9am they were completely out of EVERYTHING. Seriously every shelf was wiped clean, walked away empty handed. When I went there at 8:30 they had two prepacked leftover donut boxes with mostly plain donuts, everything else was wiped clean, I purchased a bagel instead. When I went there at 7:30 they had the most limited variety of left over donuts I have ever encountered in a shop, basically 3 or 4 weirdly shaped malt frosted things most people kind of avoid, none of the classics you look for when you seek out a donut. So basically my experience with this place is it is not your morning donut shop, something sadly missing from this area. It is a night time only alternative to Voodoo... which so far has severely lacking selection. Each time I walk in I get a concerned oh well we sold out today, like that's an unusual occurrence and if I try again the next morning I might have more luck... so I kept trying with no luck. I think I'm done attempting to try this place.

This is absolutely hands down THE BEST DONUT shop in Portland. Tucked in the corner next to Plaid Pantry off Burnside and Grand Ave. is this unassuming little donut shop that makes the best maple bars I have ever had, sorry vodoo. Bear Claws and Apple Fritters the size of your face. This place rocks!!!!!! Great prices and friendly service. Don't bother with Dunkin Donuts or Krspy Kreme.

  • Ray V.

I'd like to say this would be my 1st stop for donuts. But sorry I can't and won't do it. No, no, no. I am still a fan though. In my donut world their maple bar ranks a close 2nd to my favorite. The blueberry while nice also comes in 2nd. The bear claw was tasty, but the unexpected apple filling while good wasn't what we were looking for in a bear claw. The hours of operation are weird enough to appeal to me and certainly gives them a leg up on some other donut shops. 10pm to either 11am or 1pm depending on the day. I'll definitely be back, after all a good donut though getting easier is still hard to find!

My husband and I decided to order donut holes for our wedding. It was silly, but it was one of the best ideas that we had for our special event. We're so glad that Delicious Donuts were able to be a part of our special day. Our guests still talk about how great the donut holes tasted.

  • Vic V.

In the underground world of true hipster Portland donutistas (and local law enforcement), this is the very best donut in the city. Sure, you should visit VooDoo- after all it's been the princess of Food Network and Bourdain, and it is a landmark tourist destination for the out-of-towner, but if it's a fresh melt in your mouth donut you want, this is the place to go. You need to hit it early, cuz when their gone, they close. Coffee's not too bad either! 2 thumbs up from my grandson!

  • Dan H.

I will not be badmouthing other "touristy" donut shops in town in this review. We just shouldn't do such things when we are talking about places that put out the same product as other establishments in town. Why isn't Delicious Donuts a must see destination on ones trip to Portland? I don't know. Probably because it sits on the side of a nondescript strip mall(?) on the east side of the Burnside Bridge. Not the prettiest part of town, but pretty isn't a taste and the donuts here are pretty delicious. Really been wanting to come here for a long time. Really. I'm not joking. I don't eat donuts all that often, but I certainly don't deny myself that they exist and that I should be able to enjoy them once in a long while. I like my donut shops divey and this one is definitely divey. What isn't divey about it is the friendly service. The girl behind the counter talked to me like we were old friends. Sure, she was definitely trying to sell me more donuts as they were at the tail end of their day when I got in so I wasn't getting the freshest donuts out there, but they certainly weren't stale. I bought 3 and that was enough sugar my body would be able to take on this day. I got a chocolate glazed, an apple fritter (fritteringly good) and a longer chocolate donut that probably should have had cream inside, but didn't. The girl said she would fill it with cream if I wanted it, but I decided against it. Again. Probably a bit too much sugar for one day, but everything in moderation. I took them back to work with me and enjoyed them throughout the day. The apple fritter was really good. The others were pretty standard, but a good donut is a good donut. I definitely want to come back when they come fresh out from the back. Maybe a trip here at 3am is due. We'll see about that one.

I just want to add that somebody brought a dozen of these double d's into work the other day so I ate these doughnuts completely sober and they are by far and away the best I've ever had. Also the guys that picked them up kept saying how cool and nice the couple who runs this place is, which I've already known and yelped about for some time.

  • Purdy J.

Okay, so delicious donuts isn't exactly healthy food but boy do they have delicious donuts. Baked in the wee hours every morning, these are the Freshest donuts you'll ever taste if you can manage to get some before they sell out. They are open super early... Like 3am, so if they stroll by the late morning or even at 9am, you may be out of luck with a very poor selection or even worse, a sign on the door saying "sold out!". Very friendly service... The owners do everything from baking the donuts, working behind the counter selling the donuts and raising their sweet little family. I don't know how they do it... When do they sleep? Expect to see the traditional donuts you grew up, old fashion, glazed, Boston cream, apple fritter (huge and super, super, super good), maple bar, etc. Nothing fancy but done well. They are located in a quiet, sketchy area in a strip mall but you can park right outside their shop, grab your donuts and drive home (or destination of choice) to enjoy.

  • Naomi L.

This place is the best. I love their blueberry doughnut so much that the owner lady started calling me blueberry doughnut. I wish more people called me that.

I am glad to see the numerous reviews stating that they'd choose this over Voodoo. this is a great little local place. my boyfriend and I stop by several times a week after work and we are always greeted with the same friendly faces. their donuts have never disappointed us and they are obviously doing something right to keep us coming back. I have also noticed that they have quite a loyal following that they acknowledge on a first-name basis (and no, not just the police officers!) this is a place that I would recommend for breakfast if you are in the area, as they do breakfast sandwiches aside from just donuts. there is not a bad thing I could say about this place. you should definitely give them your business.

    (5)
  • Johanna J.

Seriously the best donuts in Portland. The staff are great and it's always nice to support mom-and-pop shops. They also serve more than donuts. The best breakfast burrito I've had in a long time.

When someone told me I would have to actually get out of bed early in the morning if I ever wanted to taste Delicious Donuts, my heart broke a little bit. I'm no morning person. I usually take my donuts for brunch, or even dessert. But I'd heard enough good things (and the location was just so convenient) that I decided to set my alarm for 6 in the morning and take my morning run down to Grand. Yeah, I used my morning run as an excuse to get a bag of donuts. I could find no greater motivation for running - or waking up early. I got there early and was pleased to see a large selection of donuts. A couple other people were there but they were already eating away. I ordered about six doughnuts and ate one on my (uh, walk) home. The old fashioned is the best I've had in Portland, thanks yelpers! I dropped the other five off to my favorite bike mechanics thinking just one would be enough to satisfy my urge (funny) but I did make a few more converts I think. Bonus points for taking my debit card and charging the same amount for a donut that I paid when I was a kid.

  • Melissa L.

I enjoyed the donut that looked like coffee crumb cake and the blueberry donut. But the apple fritter was just perfect. Perfectly glazed, apple chunks intact, and glaze soaking into the cake inside. I will be back.

So I just crossed the bridge on my way back to my hotel and I'm hit by the most incredible smell on the face of these earth. Like Toucan Sam, I follow my nose, not my heart or my brain. This led me straight to the door of Delicious Donuts. I'd been craving donuts since I passed Voodoo a while back but was unwilling to wait in line, so I basically heard angels as I walked through the door. The smiling man at the counter recommended a maple bar, went in the back, and told me he was giving me the freshest one. I don't even like maple bars, but that was one of the greatest donuts I've ever eaten. Mouthgasm. Honestly, if I had gone with the old fashioned which Yelp seems to love so much, this would probably be a 5 star review. So light, so airy, so damn good. I'm so full right now I'm almost sick, but I'm already craving another one.

These doughnuts make " Voodoo" look like "doo-doo" jajajajajajajajjaja jajajajajjjjjjjjjjjaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Seriously though, when I try a blueberry doughnut and it is incredibly fresh and dare I say, delicious, you're doing something right.

I'd got up too early and was rolling down a darkened Grand avenue without a cup of Joe, when I spotted lights glowing inside Delicious Donuts. I pulled the door and was greeted by a girl who must have been eighteen months pregnant. I ordered coffee and started in with some cornball jokes, which she ignored. I wasn't hungry, but the donuts were hot. Since when do you need to be hungry to eat a donut? I ordered a jelly filled, a chocolate bar, and a maple bar. They were damn good, but later I felt logy and sluggish and my stomach hurt.

This is the best best donuts I have had in Portland. Super simple and well executed. The owners are super sweet. For sure get there before 8am or be forced to not have a good selection.. My favorites are the maple bar(put a slice of nueski's bacon on it and it KILLS that crappy famous place. Also the apple fritter is quite nice

Nice little shop! Donuts were fresh and flavorful. They also make cafe drinks. They charge you to use your debit if it's under $5. That's annoying.

I have never experienced such friendly customer service at a donut joint in my entire life. Seriously, these guys are always cheerful and have a smile on their faces. You can see when the regulars come in that they truly enjoy coming in because the employees remember them. If you enjoy supporting local business, this is one for your list.

I desperately want to give delicious donuts a 5 star review. If my review was based solely on the merits of these slightly greasy, crispy circles and shapes of heaven, then I would give them seven stars. The loss of stars comes from several factors. First location, location, location. This place is situated in a dumpy strip mall loitered by day laborers looking for work. Second they have to keep the front door locked to keep unwanted people from coming inside. Third they make a finite amount of doughnuts and when they run out they close down early. Maybe the sign on the door should read "daily from 4 AM until we are out" Stars are reclaimed by the girl that works the counter (I think her name is Penny) she is so sweet and considerate that she recoups a star just for being her. In addittion these doughnuts are better than ANY other doughnut store in Portland. Sorry voodoo these doughnuts are that good. It seems that when you add the positives and the negatives we are still at five stars. Five stars it is.

Hate to say this as a resident of Old Town/Chinatown, but better than Voodoo. I only stop by one day a week and after about a month they knew exactly what I wanted before I opened my mouth. Very friendly and I believe a family-owned business. Oh yeah and the donuts are great, too. Good selection of classic flavors, nothing fancy. I really like the oblong shaped chocolate one. Don't know what they call it, but I'm pretty sure buttermilk is involved.

Awesome Doughnuts, always fresh. Helpful and friendly staff who remember what you order even if it it the 4th time you have been there in a year! But make sure to get there before 11:00, because this place sells out every day!

WOW! these guys know how to do what they do! Make delicious donuts! Boun and Penny are the nicest people you would ever want to meet and whenever I am in the mood for donuts, there is no one that comes close. I highly recommend that if you are in the mood for some sweets you try out one of Boun and Pennys creations at Delicious Donuts!

I stopped in today for the first time just to try these so called delicious doughnuts..... Delicious just doesn't do it justice. These are heavenly soft and pillowy, crumbly delectable little treats. All they had were the leftovers of the day in a box. So for 7 bucks I took my chance and bought it. Man, I wish I bought all 4 of the boxes they had left in their display case! No wonder they have to lock the door during business hours and let you in themselves. Then there is the owner, Penny. She is so sweet and personable. After I told her my name, she remembered that we went to elementary school together. "oh yeah, you were the skinny kid" she says..... All I could do was laugh and say yes that was me. In a city where food is first and service is dead last, delicious doughnuts not only made my day better with their tasty treats, but they put a big smile on my face with their Hospitality..... Btw, I took what remained after I was finished to my lady friend at her work, then told her to share with her coworkers..... I think she smuggled them to the conner of an empty office somewhere and ate them herself! Great job Delicious Doughnuts! I'm addicted :)

tasty donuts but gone by 10:30am the first time i visited. if you're an early riser with a sweet tooth this is the spot for you. if you need donuts for a mid-day meeting, you'll have to go elsewhere.

The best old-fashioned donut I've ever had, hands down. They also make a scrumptious blueberry donut, sometimes with vanilla frosting. They sell out a lot, so get in while you can, but you won't be disappointed.

Yum, yum, yuminy yum. I love this donut joint. Without fail, the donuts impress. The execution is simple, the taste and texture amazing. My fav is the old fashioned sugar & cinnamon. I get it every time.

Tasty donuts for a good price! I'm in search of Portland's best donuts, and these are definitely contenders. My benchmarks are the apple fritter and the maple bar (although my officemates are working their way through the rest of the assorted box). The fritter was as good as VooDoo across the river, and I'd say the maple bar was better. Mind you, these are different donuts: light, fluffy, almost creamy in texture, in traditional donut form (you will find no extreme donuts here). The fact that they're on several convenient bus lines (6, 12, 19, 20) is a real plus for early morning donut runs.

I use to frequent Delicous Donuts (much too frequently) because I found that they have the best donuts in Portland. The earlier you stop buy, the better the selection, or you can call ahead and have them hold aside your favorites. I really appreciate a fine donut, and these are better than Voodoo donuts. I had to stop the drop bys about a year ago because the donuts were adding about one pound a month to my waist and hips. BUT, if I were to indulge in a donut now, it would have to be one from Delicious Donuts!

If I could eat a donut a day (based on some alternative universe food pyramid), I probably wouldn't be so picky about them. But since I rarely allow myself this null food group, it's gotta be the best -- i.e., a Delicious!
