Had the best chicken pot pie every! Wonderful customer service!

Did not expect the ahi tuna salad to be so good! Well, I didn't take the vinaigrette, because it was too sweet for me, but the tuna was delicious and tender, almost melted in my mouth! I finished with half of a brownie pie with ice cream. Good-tasting and beautifully presented food.

My husband and I decided to make reservation for Valentine's Day. We had many referrals from friends/co-workers to dine at Daily Grill. Once we were seated, we were greeted by our waitress. She was pleasant and knowledgeable about the specials for the day. My husband ordered the New York Strip Steak and I ordered the Charbroiled Filet Mignon (medium rare) topped with Boef Onions. Our food came and my Filet Mignon was still pretty raw so I had it sent back. It wasn't a big deal since the Filet was pretty thick and I don't expect the chefs to cook it perfectly the first time. I let our waitress know that I wanted my Filet a little more cooked and she took my plate. I waited awhile for my food. I pretty much sat and watched my husband eat. The waitress walked by a few times and apologized since by now, my husband was almost done with his food. My plate was brought back and they refilled the shoestring fries I munched on before they took my dish. I was halfway through my Filet when I noticed a piece of hair (short & coarse... you know what I'm getting at??) mixed in with the Boef Onions. I let our waitress know who then told the manager. He came over and apologized. Took my plate. Asked if I wanted to order something else. I wasn't sure whether or not they were still going to charge me for that meal so I didn't order anything else. I didn't have much of an appetite anyways after finding the hair. I ended my "dinner" with 2 Patron Pom Margaritas. They did end up taking my meal off the bill and I finished my husbands dish. =o(

25 bucks and some change for a quesadilla and a margarita. a bit much, no? and that was kinda the cheapest thing on the menu. granted, the they were both delicious, but still. its a queasadilla. nothing fancy about that. if you have to use the restroom you have to navigate your way to the 2nd floor, just a heads up!

Went for lunch, had a great chopped salad and awesome butternut soup. They had good reasonable wine, and the service was very good. Would be a little better if the restroom was inside the restaurant as it is in the hotel lobby and up a floor. Other than that, good place for a salad and drinks, they have a nice little lounge area with comfortable seating and very friendly staff. I have been to this place over a dozen times and all have been good. Thank you staff.

I went here with my BF and a friend after the Flugtag this year. I am not sure how we ended up here, all I know is that Downtown was a crazy maze of people. We were all starved and had a seat outside at a street side table. Great place to people watch. I thought it was a bit overpriced but the food was good. Big portions so you may want to consider splitting a meal.

After having a very disappointing experience at Departure & Luc Lac being closed on a Sunday night 1 1/2 weeks ago we happened upon this gem!! Ate in the bar & bartender- Kevin I believe-was very friendly, great service and helped turn a bad night into a good one!! My blackened tilapia & my husband's meatloaf were both very tasty. His Arnold Palmer was best he's ever had & he's pretty picky. Many Thanks!

This is the restaurant in the Westin hotel. It's a fine little spot if you are staying in the hotel and their breakfast is standard hotel fare - that's not a bad thing. Nice staff and the food was well done. I'd recommend the omelette. That's what I got. If I wasn't staying in the Westin I'm not sure id eat here with all the other options here in Portland.

Food was good, bloody Mary ( made by spencer at the bar) was one of the best I've had.

The food was ok, the hh sear tuna was 7 pieces for $8...kindda steep. The hh naked wings were pretty good. The drinks are strong and the service was nice.

Hidden happy hour gem! 4-7PM - amazing to find a place with happy hour past 6:30! The last time I came here for a real dinner was almost 10 years ago, so I can't review them for dinner with a clear mind. However, I recently came for Happy Hour and was so pleasantly surprised! Fantastic wine deals - a carafe of wine for $12! Comes to around $4 a glass, frankly a steal for downtown happy hour (and cheaper than the popular Brasserie Montmartre next door!) You can also build your own martini for $10 - seems steep but considering you can pick from top shelf liquors, this is not a bad deal. Although I didn't get one, I bet they pour a meal dirty martini! Menu items range from $4-8. We had had the spinach and artichoke dip, pot pie, sweet potato fries (amazing garlic aioli!) and a really delicious quesidilla. It was cheap, delicious, and a very classy ambiance and GREAT service. Will definitely be back here again!

I went to Daily Grill for the first time last night for happy hour, and it was amazing! We ordered the sweet potato fries, the chicken quesadilla, the chicken pot pie, and the spinach and artichoke dip. The radio of bread to dip was a little off, but they gave us extra to balance it out. The chicken pot pie was huge, tasty, and only $5! The sweet potato fries were awesome with the garlic aioli, and the quesadilla was good--especially when dipped in the garlic aioli as well (inner fat kid always wins!) Awesome happy hour spot, and it goes until 7pm. BOOM.

I had the braised boneless short ribs with horseradish mashed potatoes and it was simply amazing. One of the best meals I have had since my loco moco in Maui. It was better than anything else I could have Gould in the city. Our waitress Alyssa was superb, and my single barrel Jack Daniels was the perfect addition to the meal. I will be back

The service was excellent! Our waitress Marti was awesome! We had the Blackberry pork chop and the Brick chicken. Both of the dishes were very good!! As I read from other previous Yelpers, the bar gets the best reviews and the restaurant lacks good selections. According to our waitress, we chose a couple of dishes that were a couple of the restaurants best. It is a bit pricey but it's to be expected from a chain hotel restaurant downtown. Anyway, we were happy!

Entering The Daily Grill my colleagues and I were warmly greeted by the staff. Ambiance was simple and very comparable to a traditional steakhouse scene. Unfortunately, that was as good as the experience would get at the Daily Grill. After the people the restaurant was unimpressive. Server was good and knowledgable about the menu and daily specials... No pun intended. Put in an order for an Old Fashion. Came out very sweet. Taste more like amaretto sour. Appetizers were fair but was tough to go wrong given we ordered Onion Rings and Artichoke dip. Hey what can I say, it's pretty tough to screw up deep fried onion rings and while I've never tried to prepare spinach dip myself, I feel like it's a standard offering at American dining places. My point is the apps tasted fine. Entree was the house special Almond Panko Crusted Mahi Mahi with wild rice. Very disappointing entree. Very under- seasoned piece of fish. Rice was beyond al dente. Way to firm for my liking. My counter part had the same meal and made similar comments. We ended the torture early and passed on dessert. Place has potential but tonight was not their night.

We ate there on a Monday night, so it was very quiet. We had the vegetable plate and the ahi tuna salad. The vegetable plate was filling though unremarkable. The ahi tuna salad had a large piece of tuna with it. The salad was dressed with an Asian style vinaigrette that was really too sweet. They had a nice wine by the glass menu. We thought it was a little expensive for the quality. Nice atmosphere and Marty did a really great job as our waitress for the evening.

Definitely a 3.5 star joint. Here's my notes: * Staff is EXCELLENT. Very 5 star professional and knowledgeable about the menu. * Food is good, but not entirely worth the price * Great accommodation for large groups * Old school restaurant vibe, but classy * Very nice updated bar area * Great drinks! * Near empty on a Saturday night for dinner - not sure why? I ordered off their 600 & under menu (under 600 calories). Nice that they have that! I got the Moroccan chicken that came with some rice and grilled veggies. The grilled veggies were good, but mostly onions sadly enough. My chicken had a nice spice kick to it but was way overly seasoned....I couldn't eat all the chicken even though it was cooked well. All in all the meal was very plain and dry. It came with a greek yogurt sauce but it tasted slightly off. For $19 or so not sure it was worth it. The dinner meal came with some great bread and butter. My wine was delicious as well. Other's meals looked delicious and I will say they had many great options.

Horrible. Staying at the hotel we decided to try this place out for dinner. The attached bar was very good so why not? Ordered the double chop. It arrived near raw. Raw. My wife's short rib was hideous. Big chunks of beef hard as rock. Sides were equally blah. Awful food. No apology. No comped dessert. Dismal. Winner of worse restaurant meal for 2014.

This review is for the bar. Prefix : I'm a picky bar customer and used to bartend in my early years so I know the business. I stopped in for a few mid afternoon drinks while perusing the downtown area. Kevin, the bartender, was one of the most charismatic- knowledgeable bartenders I've ever met. His service was outstanding. I had a bloody Mary that was excellent (well vodka), it came with a spicy prawn which was a bit unusual, but it was good. I had two salty dogs (vodka grapefruit with salt on rim). They are outstanding primarily because they squeeze their fruit fresh for all of their drinks (except tomato). I got to smell the chicken pot pie before I left, that's what I'll be having for dinner later for sure. I highly recommend this place for drinks, lunch, happy hour and maybe dinner (tell you later).

In Portland for just an evening, we were walking around looking for a place to eat with 2 young ones and we were lucky to find this place. It is sometimes hard to find places that offer really good food for the parents and have a good kid menu and this place hit both of them for us. The place is very pleasant, the staff attentive. The kids kept busy with their activity paper and loved their meal, the mac and cheese got high reviews. For the adults, the chicken caprese was amazing and is highly recommended.

Good food, friendly staff. Had the spaghetti with chicken meatballs and my wife had the chicken potpie. I asked for light sauce but I think they forgot to do that. Good portion size and I saved 1/2 for late night snack (we stayed at hotel) and they gave me extra bread. If I stayed at hotel, I'd probably eat there again.

With a limited number of restaurants open on Christmas night I feel fortunate I was able to dine at the Daily Grill. The service was excellent and all of the employees had a great attitude considering they were working on Christmas night. The bathroom is located on the 2nd floor which was a bit tough to find and very inconvenient. Still the bathroom was at least nice and clean. Parking was a bit of a nightmare especially if you're not staying at the Westin. We did find some street parking a couple of blocks away though. We decided to skip the special holiday menu and order off the regular dinner menu. I enjoyed a tasty flank steak with a cup of chowder to start. Both items tasted good although the steak was prepared nearly well done (I ordered it medium). The soup complimented the warm bread nicely. And yes I said the soup complimented the bread because the bread was excellent. The meal was finished off with a warm brownie sundae - yum! I'm not sure if the Daily Grill is really a 4 star establishment on most days but because they were open on Christmas they get the extra star on top of the imaginary Yelp tree.

May it was just bad luck, but they claimed they never received out OpenTable reservation we had made hours earlier. It took 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks, the food was meh, and the prices are a bit on the high side for a hotel lobby restaurant which is nothing more than a self-glorified equivalent to a bad Applebee's. Unfortunately you ruined my first experience so I will not be returning.

3.5 stars really...I've been to Portland 3 times so far and have eaten here every visit. The first time was in Dec '09 with my sister for dinner. Our meals were good (I had the filet mignon), but service was a little slow. Our waiter was nice & friendly though. My second visit was in Sept '10 with my sister again and we stayed in the Westin and got a good deal: free valet & free breakfast at The Daily Grill (including room service!). So of course we have breakfast from there the 2 mornings of our stay! Breakfast was good and filling, friendly service, and we had no complaints. I had an omelette one day, and the continental breakfast the next. We stayed at the Westin again in Dec of 2010 for a Christmas family vacation, no free breakfast this time, but got free valet again! Service was slow for breakfast, but there was only one waitress and our party alone had 11 people, so we were patient. Our food was good as usual (I had the Lox & Bagel) & no one complained about their dish. We like staying at the Westin because it's so close to everything - we walked everywhere we could! And the food is consistent at The Daily Grill...just maybe not the service.

Normally on my lunch break from work I go to the food carts. They are cheap and delicious and offer a great variety. Today I decided to treat myself and go to the Daily Grill. The food was fine, although my quesadilla was enough to feed at least three people. The trouble I had was that the obsequiousness of the waiter was not matched by the accuracy of the service. I was asked if I wanted bread; I said no. Bread arrived. I asked for soda water. He offered me a San Pellegrino. I said I just wanted soda water from the gun at the bar. He seemed to understand that. However, I received flat water. Minor complaints, true, but if I am going to spend $14 for a quesadilla at lunch, I expect accurate service.

Not bad for a restaurant attached to a hotel. Surprisingly, the experience has been the same for all of the hotel restaurants in Seattle and Portland. We stopped here for breakfast. Beautiful decor, helpful people, fast and friendly service, and very delicious breakfast. My cup of water and the cup of coffee both never saw the bottom. Our waiter constantly kept checking on us but not so much that we'd find annoying. What more can I say? Everything was good. If you're in the area and you're looking for a standard, safe, consistent, regular American breakfast that's not a foodie-oriented breakfast fare - choose the Daily Grill than the Park Bistro ( yelp.com/biz/the-park-bi… ). I had the Protein Scramble: 3 eggs scrambled, bacon, sausage, spinach, with toast. Lots of flavor, everything tasted as they should, and the combination of those ingredients worked together very well. Very good. Yes, I am also recommending Park Bistro for those more adventurous about their breakfast meals. ;0)

Never been here before but with visiting out of towners and my smart phone found this through Yelp within a couple of blocks of MAX which was my criteria. Thought I might have trouble with the Sunday brunch timing but no, between Yelp and Open Table it was a breeze to book the reservation. Table was ready, even though some arrived early and others late. Service was attentive but not overly so, food arrived quickly and was delicious. We had the choice of both breakfast and lunch due to timing, it was a tough decision. Great too that we could avoid the lovely fries and have fruit if so inclined. Would definitely return.

This review is a little overdue but better late than never, right? So if you're not from the area (or even if you are) you may not know that the month of June is Portand Dining Month (PDM) where a number of restaurants offer 3 courses for $25. I get unreasonably excited at the beginning of April in anticipation of this event. Anyway, Daily Grill (DG) was one of the restaurants I chose because I had never been, and probably never would if not for PDM because a) it's a hotel restaurant and b) it's a hotel restaurant. (Yes, I said that twice). The menu looked pretty good so I made reservations through Open Table (which if you're not a member, I recommend becoming one so you get points and get a dining cheque for free $ to use at participating restaurants). Back to DG - we got there about 5pm on a Monday, 30 minutes before our res so bellied up to the bar. I got a $5 martini off the happy hour menu and chitchatted with my friend until the rest of our party arrived. Bar filled up pretty quick and then we went to our table. Our server was pretty perky and she provided 4 star service. The food, however, was just meh. Appetizer: Seared rare ahi tuna - this was pretty good, seared quick and dirty and presentation was great. We split it between 2 people but I honestly could've ko'd the whole thing myself. Off the PDM menu: Caesar salad - standard, not too garlicky, fair amount of croutons. Mixed field greens salad - not a lot of dressing and it was pretty plain. Pan seared salmon w/sauteed spinach and cremini mushrooms - the salmon was cooked fine, but it was very bland and the spinach and mushrooms did nothing for it. Fresh berry shortcake - nothing special. I got it to go and probably could have gotten the same quality at Safeway. Regular dinner menu: Pepper bacon burger - standard burger, no complaints, but no raves either. If I were staying at the Westin, I would probably just go down to the bar and grab drinks and some appetizers and then head on somewhere else for dinner. I didn't expect the food to blow my mind but it was definitely underwhelming.

Had breakfast here on a business trip and "Meh. I've experience better" sums the Daily Grill up just right. For $12 I got three eggs, bacon and toast. Not exactly a great value but probably on par for a hotel restaurant. The eggs were WAY over cooked (pretty sure it sat under a light for a while), the bacon was greasy and the toast wasn't even toasted. With so many fantastic breakfast options in Portland do yourself a favor and get in a cab or walk to one worth your time.

A reason to stay at the Westin in Portland as this restaurant doubles as the hotel lobby bar and restaurant. Food and service are both excellent. A favorite is the yummy egg white omelet with avocado and tomato salsa.

Good food, service and decent prices. I've never had a bad experience here - it's a great spot, as far as hotel restaurants go. This is my place of choice if I'm having a business lunch and need some acoustical privacy because the booths are a nice size and the din is such that you don't have to keep looking over your shoulder to see who might be around. That, and the fact that the servers are so efficient and intuitive and the prices are reasonable, makes this a local business gem.

One of my favorite places in Portland for happy hour. Their happy hour menu has numerous of delicious options. My favorite is their chicken pot pie! YUMMY! And, it comes in a very generous size too! During the summer, their strawberry shortcake is a MUST! The bartenders definitely knows how to make good cocktails! In addition, Daily Grill's service is phenomenal! The servers always seems to never fall short in delivering 5-star service. I never felt rushed to leave or to pay now. The atmosphere is quiet with the right amount of volume. I feel like I can always have a conversation, compared to other places where I have to shout in order to be heard by my fiance and friends. I HIGHLY recommend Daily Grill to anyone who just wants to wind down from a busy work day or have a conversation with some friends.

This stop is the last in the comedy of errors that made up our dining experience in Portland tonight (see Departure and Blue Hour). We stopped here for a nightcap -- we are staying at the Westin. To begin, it was 97 degrees in Portland today and the air conditioning at the Westin (and the Daily Grill) is not working! Our room is fine, but the bar was stifling so we told our server we were going to sit outside -he said fine and told use the bartender would be out in a minute to take our order (because he didn't know what, if any, dessert wines they served). After waiting another 10 minutes, we went back inside to find our server watching television and the bartender nowhere in sight. The bartender finally showed up and told us that it's really rough when everyone shows up at the same time (I have no idea what he was talking about because we were the only "new" people to arrive. Further, he said he had it all under control due to his "motion offense" --- huh (in so many ways)? We were finally served our drinks -- we sat outside and enjoyed a nice breeze and friendly passers by. We weren't pestered by any bar employee until it was time to leave, when our bartender then introduced himself and asked for our names. Couldn't tell if he was trying to save a tip or get our "names" just in case we really weren't staying at the hotel after charging the 2 drinks to our room. :)

If I could give 0 stars I would. Hotel food at its worst. My bagel, lox and cream cheese was a toasted lenders bagel and defrosted lox with a slice of tomato and onion. Interestingly none of the staff asked how the food was as I suspect they already know it is crap. I suppose it is my fault as the only reason I went there was that we got a credit for staying at the hotel.

We stopped in for Happy Hour, after a long hot day out. The prices were pretty good, and the drinks were nice and strong! The atmosphere is nice, dark and not snooty at all. It is attached the Westin Hotel, the only con is having to go to part of the lobby and take the elevator to the 2nd floor for the bathrooms. Not sure if it is only for the bar side, but that's what we did. We ordered the Calamari (definitely worth $1 to double up the portion), Sliders, they only come with two, so if you have a group of 4 like we did, definitely put in a order for 2, seared Ahi it was okay, didn't look like it got seared too much, more like rolled in sesame seeds, and buffalo wings. The drinks were good, the Espresso Martini was good. We also ordered a few drinks off the HH menu, like the Mojito, it was good, and the waiter recommended that instead of the Red Black and Blue Mojito or whatever it was. Overall we had a lovely time here. The service was very prompt, efficient and very nice.

BREAKFAST ONLY REVIEW! This is way better than your average, hotel restaurant. Especially for breakfast (which is all I've tried, come to think of it!). The staff is fun, friendly, and attentive. The atmosphere is modern and a bit too "been here before" looking but it's not a huge gripe. The food is yummy. I've eaten here many times when staying at the Portland Westin and it has good, strong coffee, delicious, fresh scrambles to fit your tastes, hearty oatmeal, pancakes and French toast with sone nice little twists that make the dishes all stand out. I leave feeling very sated, stimulated, and grateful for remembering what a really good breakfast can be. It puts to rest the question "how can you really screw up eggs?", that comes up when deciding on a breakfast eatery with friends. Some places just do it all a bit better, and his place is one of those. Prices slightly above avg maybe, but not by much and well worth it.

I came here for a quick breakfast one morning since it's inside the Westin, where I was staying. The service was good and my breakfast was good (it's difficult to mess up hard boiled eggs and bacon).

I always have a pleasant dining experience at any Daily Grille I visit.the service is friendly and attentive. We had a reasonably priced 2008 bottle of local Pinot noir, my entree was easily large enough to eat for 3 meals and the food is very fresh. I had axvegan plate of raw, steamed and grilled veggies with a large baked potato. The spinach and artichoke dip was warm and the freshly toasted garlic bread was fab. Our waiter, Tucker, was extremely friendly and helpful.we are staying at the adjacent westin. We will be back tomorrow. Actually I went back everyday because the vegetable plate was so good and fresh and carried all the nutrients that I needed. A huge piece of steamed broccoli, a pile of steamed spinach, grilled asparagus, sneered grilled zucchini, mushrooms and fennel and some almond herbed brown rice topped with a ripe tomato.my husband loved their burger, which was cooked the way he liked. So with the friendly staff we were extremely pleased.

I was very disappointed by the food. I ordered the cobb salad and the lettuce was of very poor quality, the chicken was dry, and the salad toppings were scarce. McDonald's makes a better salad! I also ordered the chicken meatballs with pasta which was just as disappointing. The tomato sauce was bland and watery and the meatballs were way overcooked and hard and dried out. I had high hopes for this place, however I will not be returning.

I like the Daily Grill chain in general. Good food, good service, and pretty consistent wherever you go. Nothing amazing, but always good. This particular Daily Grill is an oasis for hotel guests at the attached Westin Portland. I ate here on a recent business trip and the food and bar staff were so good I came back the next night. I was flying solo, so I really appreciated the nice bar area where I could enjoy my meal and watch sports on the tv. The happy hour in the bar was particularly good - I had a local beer and a well-made chicken quesadilla for $10. Nice. Draw backs? Their breakfast is decent, but I don't think it matches the quality of their dinner menu. I'd also like to see a few better options on their wine by the glass list. Bottom line? This is a safe bet if you are traveling solo or if you feel more comfortable sticking with a chain restaurant.

Chalk it up to a bad case of delayed déjà vu and lack of planning. That is usually what has happened when I've eaten here. Unfortunately, I usually only remember my so-so prior visits after I've ordered. The plan was to eat in Higgins' Tap Room. I didn't anticipate that several shows were going on just down the street, so the line was out the door. Where to go for a quick meal at a decent place? Well, since I haven't joined the iPhone/Blackberry nation just yet, I just wandered downtown and into the Daily Grill. The food, the vibe, everything was just so-so... I make better tomato soup at home, but the squash soup was good. The California Turkey Melt had too much going on and the cranberry chutney just didn't work. The best items were their sourdough bread and grilled asparagus (also a bit over seasoned). It was quiet, too quiet, in the dining room. This place would be OK if you are traveling on business (staying at the Westin), have an expense account, and don't want to travel too far. But a no-no for date night or if you are looking for a fun time. There is nothing original, inventive or exciting going on here and it is over priced for what you get. The server had a complete lack of interest in our dining experience. She was truly just going through the motions. My two doesn't indicate that this place is horrible, but the Yelp note "Meh. I've experienced better" sums it up well.

I am always happy with the consistency of all the Daily Grills I've been to. Server was sooo nice and knowledgeable of all the wines. Food was phenomenal even if the portions were gigantic. Chef brought the food out to us which always impresses me. I had the tuscan chicken with sauteed spinach and risotto. Potato leek soup was a-ma-zing. The bf got another chicken dish he quite enjoyed and the clam chowder. We were stuffed and happy :) Go after work hours and you'll get unrushed, personalized service.

Had the Cobb omelette for breakfast - what a great and unique idea - it was very yummy. Breakfast potatoes were nicely done with peppers and onions. Prices were a bit high, but it beat going out in the rain again! If you stay at the Westin, I suggest giving it a try.

BLT - Good execution. The bread is toasted well, the bacon is very crispy, lettuce and tomatoes are very fresh. Hand Shaken Strawberry Lemonade - Good, free refills Manhattan Clam Chowder - full flavored and lots of clams, very peppery. Not bad for a restaurant attached to a hotel.

Our waitress was very friendly, but forgot the appetizer we ordered. I ordered the cedar plank salmon and it was nearly tasteless and smothered with barbecue sauce. In my opinion, good salmon doesn't need to be smothered in anything. The side was a giant uncooked stalk of broccoli. Who enjoys eating uncooked broccoli? Overall I would not recommend DG and I won't be going back.

I was getting tired of the restaurant in the hotel I was staying at, so I came by for breakfast. It is a bit on the pricey side, but the roast beef hash & eggs dish that I ordered was incredible. It had a richness that almost went over the top for an early meal, but made for a wonderfully tasty start to my day. The service was excellent as well.

Rating 5 star just for one happy hour appetizer we had: spinach and artichoke dip. The best I've ever had ever... Huge chunks of artichoke and a perfectly creamy dip without a lot of cheese added. We didn't eat here. Great happy hour menu and a small decent selection of microbrews on tap.

Had lunch here today, loved the amount of mushrooms that came on my California chicken burger! The bartender was our server, because we sat in the lobby, we could see that he was the only one running the bar area, the lobby, and outdoor seating, and he was still able to help us out in a friendly and timely manner! Also, the carrot cake was delicious, especially the candied pecans! Can't wait to try out the strawberry shortcake next time!

My husband and I were visiting Portland last weekend and needed a big breakfast after a night out. We searched Yelp for breakfast spots near our Hotel and ended up at Daily Grill. The hostess who greeted us was really cold and immediately gave us a bad vibe, but we sat down anyway. Our waitress was somewhat friendlier but still not what I would have expected for a breakfast joint attached to a hotel. I ordered the blueberry pancakes and my husband got the corned beef benny. The food was good and he liked his Bloody Mary, although it was $8.50 and made with Gordan's, so definitely way overpriced. It was really quiet in the restaurant and we could never get comfortable, so we ate fast and left. On our way out the hostess ignored us again and and the bartender ran out to thank us. Overall, I think the food is good here but too expensive for average customer service.

Spent the night in Portland and picked the Daily Grill for dinner because it was walking distance from our Hotel and it had 600 calorie dinners. The food was good, the drinks were good and the service was good. Nothing stood out as exceptional except for the healthy low calorie choices. I wish more restaurants would follow this example.

It's a tough market out there with so many breakfast options in Portland. The food was a solid 3 but the service was a solid 2. Why was the service bad? The waitress would disappear for 15 minutes at a time, it look 25 minutes to order our food, the person bussing the table kept dropping the silverware on the floor, etc.

Great service. My husband enjoyed the cedar plank salmon. I got the pan seared chicken. It had a white sauce, hazelnuts and pear slices. I thought it was good, but lacking in flavor. The service was great. Our waiter gave us great tips on what to do in Portland while we are visiting. I would go back again, but would choose another dish.

If you aren't capable of providing decent customer service on Christmas Day, don't open. That pretty much sums up our experience at Daily Grill. We were visiting Portland over Christmas and were told by our hotel that this was one of the few restaurants open on Christmas Day for dinner. We phoned about two weeks in advance and made reservations for 8:00 pm, at which point the hostess taking the reservation assured us that we would have plenty of time to eat (after we specifically asked). Needless to say, when we arrived we found a sign on the door saying they were closing at 9:00 as it was a holiday. Throughout the meal we felt rushed and pressured. As a vegetarian, my choices were limited. There was nothing vegetarian on the holiday special menu (which is to be expected), but worse there were only two choices on the regular menu: a pasta dish or the grilled vegetable plate. They had an option in which you could pay an additional $8 to make a three course meal with starter and dessert, so I opted for the butternut squash soup (from the specials menu), the grilled vegetable plate and then the fudge brownie pie. The complimentary bread that came with the meal was probably the stand-out of the meal, although the butternut squash soup was well-seasoned. The grilled vegetable plate, however, was almost enough to turn me into a full-on carnivore. It consisted of a pile of plain white rice, accompanied by a GIANT piece of barely-steamed broccoli, a few small pieces of bell peppers (all together probably equalling one quarter of a pepper, or less!), a bit of red onion, two mushrooms, one tomato slice and perhaps an asparagus spear or two. When it arrived the other people I was dining with starting apologizing profusely for selecting the Daily Grill, as it looked that unappealing. What it needed was larger pieces of vegetables, higher-quality rice and some sort of flavour (I've had AMAZING vegetarian grilled vegetable plates at Argentinian grills that come with chimichurri sauce, and similar plates at American-style restaurants with herbed yogurt dipping sauces, for example). The fudge brownie pie was a huge, bland, Sisco-style brownie with cheap-tasting caramel sauce (from a jumbo squeeze bottle, I'm sure). Props for lots of candied pecans atop the brownie, though. Sadly, the omnivores at my table didn't fare much better. One guest's choice of entrees AND desserts was sold out, another wasn't able to order the dessert of his choice. Service was slow and we were probably helped by eight different servers or bussers throughout the course of our meal. I wouldn't return to the Daily Grill any day of the year, but I particularly recommend avoiding it on a holiday or for any special occasion. You're better off ordering pizza. Or eating trail mix.

My wife and I dropped in to Daily grill last night while bar/restaurant hopping on our anniversary. Daily Grill is cold and sterile with no ambiance, but we had heard decent things, so we ordered a drink. Our bartender matched the room - cold and lacking personality. I got a well drink and my wife one of their specialty drinks. Her drink was awful and I can get well gin and tonic anywhere, so we bailed after 1 drink. Our bill was $21.50. We felt totally gouged. If you're looking for a romantic spot, good drinks and a decent deal, then go some place else. If you like paying way too much and feel like you're having a drink in a hotel lobby, got to Embassy Suites.. they'll throw in a room for you!

Its a decent restaurant that makes an attempt at being upscale while at the same time, inviting. The food was excellent: light and flavorful with healthy proportions. It's a bit overpriced for what its trying to pull off so I would give it 3 stars if it hadn't had Wi-Fi. It was nice being able to work in a white-tablecloth place like that.

Great Breakfast spot! Try the crabcake Benedict or the cobb omelet. Although I didn't want to eat here since it looked like some giant hotel overpriced restaurant, we ended up here anyways. Although I had my doubts, we found that the food here was really good and they gave you some hearty portions. The poached egg on my Benedict was a little overcooked but I tend to like my eggs super runny. Nice Hollandaise sauce and a nice lemony crab cake on two english muffins. Can't really ask fro anything better. The omelet on the other hand wasn't a nice cigar shaped rolled beauty but rather a taco shaped mammoth mound of protein. Coffee, OJ, and a side of string fries came out to around $30 ish dollars. Will return again someday.

We stayed at the Westin last night and since the rain was coming down when we woke up this morning, we decided on brunch really close by (where we wouldn't even have to venture outside). We both ordered the Cobb omelet; it comes with diced chicken breast, green onions, bacon, tomatoes, avocadoes and bleu cheese. I ordered fruit in lieu of the potatoes that come with it standard (you can also substitute a side of sliced tomatoes as another option). Our omelets arrived and I was pleasantly surprised at the generous amount of filling inside the omelet. I have never said this before and may very well never say this again, but it almost had too much bacon in it. The silly thing was stuffed with bacon! It tasted wonderful and they definitely did not scrimp on the ingredients. The bleu cheese melted nicely into the melange but with the larger chunks simply softened a bit, and became a nice gooey, bleu-cheesy surprise when I came across any of the larger chunks. The diced chicken breast pieces were almost an inch square, same with the fresh avocado pieces. Neither of us could finish the entire portion, but we really enjoyed our brunch. I would come back for the Cobb omelet anytime.

I usually don't expect too much from a hotel restaurant, but the Daily Grill seems more like a restaurant which just happens to be located inside a hotel. The service was good, the menu choices many, and we loved being able to look out on the snowy street as we had our sumptuous and yummy breakfast. The "scramble" was great, with spicy chicken sausage, spinach and cheese. The next morning I had a "custom" omelet and my friend chose the bagels and lox -- one of his favorites. We were both pleased. That night we went into the bar and I had a sidecar and my friend had the hot chocolate. Both were great, and I had the hot chocolate the following morning before catching my flight home. I liked everything about the Daily Grill from the ambiance and decor, the efficient and friendly service, and the delicious but not pricey menu. On a trip where choices were limited, the Daily Grill proved to be a convenient and worthwhile alternative.

After an early morning drop off trip to PDX we decided to have breakfast downtown. We quickly learned that not much is open before eight am. We found the Daily Grill is open early and it was lucky for us. The environment is classy, the service good, and the food outstanding. The Denver omelet was epic and the corned beef hash was the best I ever had hands down. (and I've had it a lot of places.)

Came here for happy hour (4-7pm) with the girls on a Tuesday. The small bar has a great vibe, we sat at a comfortable booth & chairs table. There is no happy hour "drink" menu, perhaps five drinks were listed for around $5. The rest of the fancy and more appealing drinks were $11-$12...seriously? Seriously. The happy hour food menu is however really great, the have a $2.95, $3.95 & $4.95 menu, all with really great options. We tried the hummus plate, delish, but came with radishes, eww... Spinach and artichoke dip with some crunchy seasoned bread, very good, but were charged and extra $1 when we requested more bread. The mac n' cheese, with three different cheeses (sans fungus) was super yummy with the delicious crumb stuff on top, mmmm, crumbs. I love me a good mac n' cheese! Grilled chicken quesadilla ("doubled up" for a $1 extra) was my least favorite, but still good. It didn't seem saucy or cheesy enough, something was off...but plenty of chicken! Last were the spicy crispy chicken strips. They didn't seem spicy at all (and I'm a bit of a heat pansy), but did have an amazing crumbly breading that was deep fried just right with an oh-so delicious ranch dipping sauce. I would like to go back just for another order of these! Oh, and if you try to find the restroom, it's actually shared with the Westin Hotel adjacent to the grill, and on the 2nd floor. I thought I was going to get lost in constructionville trying to find the loo! Overall, I think this was a great place, wonderful atmosphere, yummy food, but slightly expensive drinks if you like to get too fancy.

I didn't have high expectations, but I actually really liked this place. Our server was exceptional and the food was pretty tasty. I had pasta with broiled shrimp and was pleasantly surprised with how fresh they were. I also had a lovely pinot and the husband had a delish pot pie (the crust was divine!). The dessert was so-so, but overall, a great meal and incredibly reasonable.

Went here for brunch as there were not too many other options on a Holiday Monday. A bit pricey as you would expect being attached to the Westin. The eggs benedict was decent and the portions were pretty big. There are so many places in the city that I would try before coming back but for convenience sake, this place served its purpose.

    (3)
  • Darrin J.

My wife and I ate there twice today for breakfast and dinner with breakfast being better than dinner. The corn beef and hash was very tasty (although a bit on the greasy side for my taste) and the eggs benedict was very nicely done. Two minor nits was that the cottage cheese had an off taste (which the management agreed, took it off the bill and gave an alternate item). Dinner was however on the less exciting side. The waiter didn't know what was "au poivre" (e.g. pepper encrusted steak) but after explanation was able to get a reasonable approximation. The also couldn't provide Hollandaise or Bearnaise sauce was a surprise since they have Hollandaise sauce for breakfast. The chicken pot pie was a bit undercooked because the layer of puff pastry was not completely cooked and left a chewy membrane between the pastry and the pot pie. That said the pot pie was a very generous portion (e.g. 9" bowl) and had great flavor (although I am still partial to Marie Callander's pot pie). I'll give the Daily Grill another try for dinner sometime.

BOOM.

Fantastic food and great service. Yes this restaurant is technically a chain which I try to avoid but it doesn't feel chain like at all. I recently had a great experience eating here highly recommend.

Went here for brunch as there were not too many other options on a Holiday Monday. A bit pricey as you would expect being attached to the Westin. The eggs benedict was decent and the portions were pretty big. There are so many places in the city that I would try before coming back but for convenience sake, this place served its purpose.
