Great outdoor area! Cheap beer! Video poker!

Coaster's has been our bar for years now! We used to live just a few blocks away, but still come regularly from the other side of town. You can't beat the prices and the pours, most of the people are regulars and very nice, and the food is very good bar food (a large grilled cheeseburger and home made thick potato chips are only around $6). It can be a quiet bar if you want to relax with your drink and a book or a fun, interactive hangout with non-snobby Portlanders. The pool table is only $.50 and is usually open and kept in good condition, there's an AMI jukebox (I wouldn't recommend putting much rap or dance music though), and lots of video (crack) machines. We can't say enough good things about the bar, the staff, or the owners!

Woof! Well, this place is pretty divey, but what an eclectic group it attracts. The bartender was nice and nice strong pours with cheap prices. Only kinda rough thing, is it smelled so musty and stale inside. They have video lottery, electronic jukebox, patio, pool and darts. If you just need a good cheap drink, definitely worth the stop.

Your typical divey joint with a nice outdoor patio area. I love the fact that they serve food, as well. Nothing makes me happier after 4 beers and a couple of shots than being able to order nachos to soak up some of my buzz! The drinks here are phenomenally priced. They don't always have Patron, which bums me out, but the fact that I can easily put away 6 beers and 3 shots and have a bill hovering around $30 WITH food included is kind of amazing. I take that back, that's absolutely ridiculous, but in a really fucking awesome way. You won't meet all kinds of fly hunnies here and the joint won't be jumping, so save the 17" heels and mini skirt for another place. This is where you go when you don't want to spend $700 on three drinks and don't feel like impressing anyone. The bartenders are super friendly and attentive, and there are some pool tables in the back. A kind of weird aside: the bathroom has chalk in it that you can write amazing and profound drunk things for other people to read on the walls while they do their thing. Nothing makes me happier than reading haikus scribbled on a wall while I break the seal! A good place to chill and not hate yourself for the money you spent the next day ;).

Sometimes when we've been out for a drinks someplace else and already spent too much money, guy and I will look at each other and say, "lets go get a real drink." that means a Coasters drink on the way home. You know what else it means? Swingers! Scary ones too. Well, aren't they all though? I swear the last 4 times we came in here together we were approached with a "you guys are really cute" kind of line with a wink wink and not in a 'like your shoes' kind of way.

Another late evening at Coasters. I'm so happy this place is around. My guy and my bill for many drinks was about $25 including burritos. Love it!

I'm surprised this place doesn't have more hipster reviews, at the same time I'm not surprised at all... This is the kind of bar that the cool kids pretend they want to spend their time in, but after a couple of visits they realize it's just a blue-collar local's bar that really doesn't have a "vibe" or some exploitable ambiance to introduce to their friends as the next new "great dive". It's on that stretch of Powell that is technically South Tabor, but feels more like it's closer to 82nd. The atmosphere varies depending on the night/crowd, but the bar on its own is really just an overgrown basement bar that you might find at somebody's uncle's house. Random bar knickknacks, an old convenience store cooler to keep the beers in, lots of photos and papers taped behind the cash register, the ubiquitous neon signs... From my experience, the drinks are strong (some may find them too strong) and cheap, and the food is exactly what you'd expect: Greasy bar food whose main function is to help soak up the alcohol. This is NOT a restaurant. The crowd is, I would assume, mostly folks from the neighborhood who've been coming in for years. Everyone seems to know each other and the average age is around 50. There are a lot of mustaches and, I suspect, diabetics. That said, there are no finer people to spend an evening with than locals at their home bar. It can get crowded, but the majority of my visits have been pretty empty. Nobody playing the jukebox, just the two TVs at either end of the bar (the TV in the middle is actually their security feed), and the jingle-jangle of people sitting like corpses in front of the lottery machines. I spent several hours there one night eating tater tots and watching "Golden Girls" on Lifetime with the bartender, getting plastered on rum & cokes. I was the only one at the bar, and there was a small group playing pool. The bartender spent more time outside smoking than anything else, but all of our interactions were pleasant and prompt, right when I needed a refresher. It was a good night. So... As I said, it can get wild, but it's mostly a local's bar. If you're not into that, you'll be either bored and/or repelled. Not the place for a bachelorette party or a first date, but definitely a solid bar if you're only goal is to get a drink and be in a bar.

Comfy without an ounce of pretentiousness. Friendly owners.
