All I can say is that the black dude with glasses that was working Monday July 21st around 9pm provided some of the best customer service I've ever had anywhere. I tried giving him a tip directly and he respectfully declined. He had such a great vibe and made me feel that I made the correct choice in coming here. IF ANYONE IN MANAGEMENT OR HR SEES THIS, please give this guy a raise. These are the types of employees you want in your establishment. He is very well deserving. I made sure to leave a fat tip. Wish I had known his name. What a great dude. Anyways the food is great and usually always is, it's the service that's sub par but today that all changed. Stoked to come back and have great customer service from this guy again.

The absolute worst Chipotle I've ever been to. The portions are either huge or minuscule. Portion control is as random as the tattoos on their necks. I wasn't going to argue with the guy making my food because you never know what they are going to slip in there. To top off the fact the burrito they gave me was anorexic, the sharpie cut through and wrote a "B" on my tortilla. I'll never be back, and sadly nobody there will care.

I've eaten here countless times, mostly when I went to PSU in 2011-2013, and have never gotten sick. Yesterday my partner & I went cuz it's hard to deny that Chipotle's burritos are tasty, quick and a pretty good amount of burrito for the price. We went in, it was understaffed but we thought it was okay since there wasn't a line. We went through and ordered; 12 hours later (the usual time it takes for food poisoning), Alex is throwing up -- continuing to throw up all night. The things he had differently from me were the sofritas, brown rice, black beans and green salsa. I was fine so it was definitely one of those four things. Chipotle seems to have a cross contamination problem in general because they have to work so fast (which I always tip and say thank you because it looks like shitty work, honestly), often I have to make sure they wipe things by telling them I'm alergic to dairy (I'm extremely lactose intolerent but no restaurant takes that term seriously). This absolutely was THE cause of his food poisoning. Otherwise he ate exactly the same as me and his dad and we've been fine. Doubtful he'll want to go there or to any Chipotle again; since he already will inconsistently get stomach aches from there anyway. It's a huge bummer since it's basically the best fast food for vegans.... I think you lost a customer, Chipotle....

This Chipotle location just got the vegan Sofritas option- shredded organic tofu (from Hodo Soy in SF) stewed in chipotle chilis, roasted poblanos, and spices and it is AMAZING. Seriously, this changes everything for vegetarians and vegans who frequent Chipotle. It's got great texture and flavor and isn't trying to be a fake meat. I feel an addiction coming on...

The facility is clean, the staff is nice, food is cheap. Only complaint is that lines are long. You should order ahead of time to in order to avoid the rush of students that come in between classes.

  • Owen C.

The name of the game here is inconsistency...something that should not happen at a chain restaurant. Tiny burritos..huge burritos..insanely salty chips..online orders never made..disgruntled employees..the list goes on. It's kind of like gambling over here. You just never know what you're gonna get.

I'm generally not into writing bad reviews, but I'm bending my rules a bit. The last three times I have been to this chipotle during dinner rush hour they did not have chicken ready. I had to wait at least 15-20 minutes each time this happened. The line kept piling up with people waiting for chicken. How do you not have that ready at dinner time?? But that's not all... Today was my coworkers birthday, so our director ordered lunch for us. We did the online order system for about 10 of us and chose the 11am time to pick it up. When our director arrived at the Chipotle, they did not have the order ready and said they open at 11 so it wasn't ready. Why would that be a time available for pick up if it's not possible to get our food then?? He waited for 40 minutes for our food. Way too long and no one apologized for the wait. I have been to this chipotle so many times in the past (PSU alumni) and have never had so many problems. It seems the management is lacking and I hope they figure it out. Until then, I will be going to a different restaurant.

I am a big fan of Chipotle, for many reasons... They have fantastic food. Period. This location, however, I'm basically over it. Yes, they have long lines, but that's not their fault - they're in the center of PSU. Their service is another thing all together. The blonde at the counter has no common sense or personality. The line does nothing but talk amongst themselves, with the quick "want black beans or pinto bleans?" and then are still not paying attention to you as they'll forget of have to ask you again. Today, the man who bagged up my tacos was having a full blown not work appropriate conversation with a girl 3 people down, took his sweet time bagging my food AND THEN basically tossed the bag in my direction without even looking at me. I've also tried avoiding these people all together and ordered online. The online ordering process itself is relatively smooth. I ordered my food 20 minutes before it said it would be ready. I walked down there and the cashier, same dimwitted blonde I've encountered too many times, said that she had no idea there were any orders waiting and then passive aggressively blamed the kitchen staff... awkward. about 40min after I had ordered my food it came out of the kitchen. After the bags were handed to me the blonde said "Oh, by the way we ran out of lettuce, I hope that's ok...?" First of all, that should have been mentioned earlier, secondly what kind of kitchen manager allows his restaurant to run out of lettuce during lunch when lettuce is generally a vital part of the food served....??????? When I asked to speak to the manager, a man who was dressed and carried himself very poorly emerged from the back and had a very lax attitude about the whole thing. He eventually offered a refund, which I gladly took, and wasn't planning to mention on Yelp until my experience today. I understand this Chipotle isn't going to lose any business over this review, but the management staff really needs to change some things if they take their business seriously. Moving forward, I plan to walk out of my way to the food carts.

Still consistent. Move the line fast most of the time, even during PSU lunch rush. No idea why I said there's a parking lot. As if one didn't notice this is the west side of the river... Update : chicken, sofritas (seasoned tofu), vegetarian are now $6.70. Other meats $7.25-$7.40.

Very nice Chipotle, downtown - what you'd expect from a fresh and healthy establishment. I've been through many Chipotle's and I do believe they gave a little less meat that usual or other locations so I was kind of let down but it was good none-the-less.

    (4)
  • Andrew A.

It's a chain so the offering is consistent, good in this case. The front line staff seemed rushed and it looked like it took effort to muster up friendly service. The Margarita was surprisingly good.

Can't eat there anymore after I witnessed an employee sitting in the window preparing the bags (way under-filled and overpriced) of chips, then eating some chips, then filling some more, then eating some more. Not wearing gloves either. I ate there a lot before that, can't really say I enjoyed it, but it sure did fill me up. But gross, at least do it where the customers can't see. Thankfully there are a lot of really good Mexican food carts nearby, and a new sit-down just down the block, so there are other options for the discerning burrito connoisseur. Like you have got to try the little cart under the parking garage a few blocks away, next to the hot dog cart, holy guacamole, now that's some good eating. Super cool lady owning/running it, too, not a chain owned by McDonald's. I almost gave Chipotle one star, but the majority of the times I went there the staff was really professional, so I don't really want to fault everyone for one employee making everyone else look bad. I just can't go there now.

  • Ai M.

Line can get long during peak lunch rush but way isn't long as a typical restaurant, similar to food carts. Great for college students on budget and time constraints. Five working in line speeds the process and no one is slacking.clean spacious atmosphere. Serves meat lovers and vegans alike I'm here to try out the Sofritas and get a free drink :) Nothing too memorable is food is great for grab and go.

Good, fresh and great service. I have been here twice and have never had a bad experince so far. The energy of the place is just great. The staff are very through in explaining stuff but not to much information. The food I s hot and always good

    (3)
  • D M.

The portions have gotten a lot smaller despite a recent price increase and the portions (for the bowl) are never the same. Sometimes I get 1/3 more food than the next time I go in but overall, the amount of food (despite the increase in price) is a lot less than it was before. I do not understand how they don't train staff to give consistent portions for every order. How hard is that? The meat quality has also gone downhill - more fat. I used to love Chipotle because it was fresh good food, but seems to be going downhill in general. Quite disappointing, especially when prices go up with it.

    (2)
  • Andy L.

The usual Chipotle experience, but with worse parking. Chipotle is my mainstay for decent Tex-Mex fare with customization being key. Freshness is usually top of the list, with healthier options being a nice break for those who do fastER food. Consistently good location-to-location is why we visit Chipotle and this place is no different. My biggest gripe at this location is/was the parking, but I can't fault the restaurant specifically, but it definitely hindered our experience here. Maybe validate w/ local parking garages free-of-charge?

5 star for the most awesome and low cal and healthy and fresh salads!!!! YUMMERS!!!

  • Hanh V.

The burrito are getting smaller and smaller. I feel like I have been robbed. It still tastes good, but I don't want to pay almost 7 dollars for half a burrito. Beside the size of the burrito, the customer service is also decreasing. I only eat here because it's on campus. Chipotle downtown is a lot better! Wont be going here again.

very very slow the last 2 times. under staffed. they dont wear name tags. too afraid to be called out

  • Rebecca B.

This Chipotle location has really gone downhill the past few years. Most of the employees are super snobby and rude, the portion sizes have gone down, and they rush the customers way too much. If you want a better Chipotle, visit the one on NW 12th and Lovejoy, where the employees actually acknowledge your existence and at least act like they appreciate your business. I've had to email corporate 3 times in the past few months and no changes have been made. So I give up on this location.

Burrito bowl had great flavor. But hot food lacking from what I expect to get from Chipotle!

  • Jeff B.

Rude service, "Dorothy", if that is her name, will be sure to chuck a bag at you at any given chance after charging you full price for rice and beans w/ hotsauce and lettuce. ummm wtf?

  • Holly C.

I comer here for lunch sometimes after work but before my evening classes. Around 2-3pm, which is when everybody is getting lunch after late morning and early afternoon class. The being said the line can get long and the service a bit slow. This location is pretty loud and filled with undergrads. But I like the food and the location is good.

    (4)
  • Elena D.

Love me some Chipotle. I may have an addiction; I can't seem to go more than a week without giving in. I would not recommend using the online ordering for this location because that is the only time that I have been disappointed by this place. One time I showed up to pick up the order and they were completely confused and it was like the online order never even existed. Another time the order was just completely messed up and my burrito was ice cold. That's when I learned that it's worth it to just wait in line.

    (4)
  • Jay P.

Chipotle!!! Line moves fast, staff is friendly and well informed. If it's slow they will always take time to talk to you and ask how's it going or how's the food, they will even greet you when you come in with "Welcome to Chipotle!" If you're trying to get the bang for your buck, ask them for double wrap burrito so it doesn't rip on you, ask for extra anything besides meat and guacamole and they will give it to you for FREE Nothing beat free!

    (4)
  • Lisa K.

Chipotle, my guilty pleasure and fall-back plan when cooking up a good meal isn't in the cards and greasy fast food won't cut it. It's by no means a 5-star place compared to the Portland foodie scene, but compared to the other fast food alternatives nearby, it earns 5 stars in this category. The portions are so big, it lasts for two meals. And when it doesn't, my stomach pays for it. What is it about their guacomole and lime chips? With its decent price point and tasty goodness, I'm hooked!

    (5)
  • Ash B.

Delicious footballs of burrito goodness made on the spot, to order, by usually very friendly individuals. Even when there is a line, it's usually pretty fast moving. Ask them for extra of anything you want except for the guacamole or meat(s) and they add them for free, which is pretty awesome. I also suggest getting double-wrapped if you're not particularly interested in it getting soaked through or ripping on you.

Best Chipotle in Portland (over Yamhill in Downtown and Weidler by the Lloyd district). Cool atmosphere, a frozen yogurt shop near by and the best cooked food of the 3. I would say I'm on the extreme end of a love for Chiptole (eat it every time I'm in Portland and on every trip to cities with one). I used live in a city with 3 Chipotles and I ate something there 5 times a week. I love this chain, but Portland is weak on taste. This is the best one in town and they're not too stingy on the fixins.

  • Jennifer H.

Started going to Chipotle in this location several years ago. Loved the food, especially since there was plenty of it. In recent years, however, the portions have shrunken and I have often had to ask for more of one ingredient or another. They seem to be in such a hurry that they don't look at portion size.

    (4)
  • Bartek K.

These things are pretty cookie cutter and popping up everywhere. Because this location is on PSU campus there is usually a line. The line moves quickly though but you may be standing in it for 5 to 10 minutes. There's an app for that though! Order with your phone and go to the front of the line. Here's a tip though. If you get there and they haven't pulled your order yet the manager will go immediately make your order while you wait. Either way you're skipping the line. No one likes lines.

Want to experience over priced tex-mex food that is bland and likely to leave you with a stomach ache? Come to Chipotle. I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just being honest. There are countless food carts and hole in the wall Mexican joints that serve up much better burritos for a few bucks less. $1.50 for guacamole? Really? I'll go buy a couple avocados and make my own for a little bit more, thanks. I'm sorry, but this place does not live up to the reputation that it gets by people who haven't had decent Mexican or tex-mex. On the bright side, ummm.....Their service has been fast the few times I have been there, and they do serve beer, which is always a plus.

    (2)
  • Jason E.

Become a regular at your favorite Chipotle and they'll learn to stop asking if it's OK to add guacamole for an extra $$ - they'll tell themselves that you probably already know that, and add it without hesitation. Free drinks for PSU students. HOT, hot salsa. Clean dining room. The employees are always friendly and welcoming.

    (5)
  • Lucas C.

This is just really wholesome fast food. While this isn't comparable to standard Mexican but more of the commercial tex-mex variety it's great for a huge amount of ingredients and general freshness. Chipotle has become my go-to post workout protein/calorie pack, in that case, it fits my purpose exactly. I always get the vegetarian burrito with guac (it's free for the veggie, icky-expensive elsewhere), so that's all I can really comment on (I've never really understood the whole "burrito bowl" thing...) but it basically runs down to this: Good food for a decent price. $5.95 for giant burrito and a drink. PSU Students: Show your ID and you get a free drink.

    (4)
  • Katie H.

This is my favorite "guilt free" burrito of the bunch. (Talking about the organic meat etc. not the calories.) Love the burrito bowls-one of my favorite quick meals in Portland. For some reason in this part of town there seems to be a lot of crappy fast food joints (probably to appeal to poor college kids) and very few decent food places to frequent. That may be why I'm diggin on this place so much. Mmmmm chicken, rice, salsa, beans, sour cream.

    (4)
  • Sasha S.

These really make my stomach hurt... and not in a good way. I guess getting a burrito bowl sans tortilla can reduce the calories by a whopping 400- but aside from that... you're not getting the time to enjoy the flavors. It's just kind of like you served up the contents of someone's stomach of a dinner at an American-Mexican restaurant. Like. Separate is better. And the price- just... too high for students. P.S. McDonald's owns. All that needs to be said.

    (1)
  • Mary O.

I really love chiptole on those days I have late classes (who am I kidding...any day is a chipotle day). I have a place to sit, its loud enough I can't hear everyone's conversations, and the burritos are large enough to count as two meals. Its a MASSIVE burrito, I haven't gone to many food carts (and I should) but these are really tasty for reasonable price, friendly staff and close proximity to Portland State campus.

    (4)
  • Joe M.

I have tried to like this burrito joint, really I have tried. Everytime I have gone though, I get a bitter after taste in my mouth. For some reason, the food is very satly, even the rice. It's pretty sad when the rice overpowers the burrito itself. The tortilla is not crisp, just soggy and very gummy like. The prices are high too for a burrito. When I found out McDonald's owns Chipotle, I can see why the quality is so bad. Stick with the food carts and Cha Cha Cha!

    (1)
  • V M.

Ah...college student on a budget looking for Mexican food around campus....that would be me. I've tried one "authentic" mexican taqueria near campus and the next time I decided to go back, the place was closed for remodeling or some crap. WTH?! I'm too lazy to go find actual taquerias and don't really want to try the food carts so I settle for Chipotle's chicken burrito. It satisfies my taste buds so I'm happy. A bonus is that if you show them your PSU ID, you get a free soda. =)

    (5)
  • Brian G.

Expensive? $7 at most for a 1500 calorie meal? How is that expensive? Poor quality? It tastes like real food... and full disclosure is given on the sources of their ingredients. Owned by McDonalds? It was... until 2006, when the divested their majority share, which, by the way is a little bit different than owning in the sense of being a parent company. Cold? Don't wait 20 minutes to eat it... People have said some crazy things about Chipotle on here... I love it. It's a great way to get a huge meal that leaves you feeling full, but not bloated and terrible, and at a price that makes you happy as well. The staff is friendly and professional, it's clean, and you get a free drink with your PSU ID.

  • C S.

STUDENT DEAL IS GONE, NO MORE FREE DRINKS, effective Jan 2012. $5.95 for chicken and vegetarian. Everything else costs $6.35, which includes Barbacoa, Steak and Pork. When everything was under $6 and came with a free drink for students, this was a pretty good deal. Now it's just an ok price, not a deal. I think the food is good, and consistent as you have come accustomed to from corporate chain fast food restaurants.

    (3)
  • Jesus A.

I only tried this place during a few of their promotional sales. This burrito joint is all right, the first time it was good and the most recent time it left bitter after taste in my mouth. The tortilla is not crisp just soggy.

    (2)
  • Melinda B.

Chipotle is overpriced and you can lick the corporate marketing vibe off the very walls, and half the time the staff at this one does NOT know how to properly fold a burrito. However: sometimes, I gotta grab me a $7chicken burrito with two kinds of salsa, a half-serving of black beans and a half-serving of fajita veggies, and an entire avocado's worth of guac. The cost is not quite so bad when I factor in that one of those is usually pulling double-duty as lunch and dinner. Oh and flash your PSU student ID and they'll give you a free beverage!

    (3)
  • Stanley T.

Grabbed a quick burrito on my way to a meeting today. Flavor was pretty good, but the contents were warm at best with a strip of downright cold through it. I'm assuming the cold was the salsa - which is probably a good idea to keep cold - but the other ingredients should have been hot enough to counteract.

    (2)
  • Sarah B.

Food was fast, good & fresh, inexpensive. Nacho chips were yum, hint of lime.

    (4)
  • Ryan S.

I haven't ever been to Chipotle until now. I've heard a few people rave about how they enjoyed it, but my experience was the opposite. When I bite into my burrito I expect the contents inside to be at least warm. It was cold and gross. It felt like I paid six bucks for left overs that had been in my fridge for a few days. Probably never going back.

    (1)
  • Chris S.

    I. Love. Chipotle. Perfect in exactly the way that Taco Bell, Baja Fresh, etc. is not. Simple menu, large food portion, healthy ingredients and plain delicious fare. Cost is beyond reasonable, and for the price per volume you'd pay fifteen dollars or more for at the other "mexican" places. Food is made to order in cafeteria style, so you know exactly what you are getting as well as what you'd like on it (at no extra charge even). And this location, has cute boys working there, too. Bonus!

    (5)
  • Corwin M.

Another fast food establishment that gets four stars from me. Blessed art thou, and blessed is the fruit of thy walk-in cooler! And all other paraphernalia of culinary concoctery. Before I even get started, Chipotle isn't owned by McDonald's; McDonald's financed them. This place serves great burritos with high quality ingredients. Before the animals are slaughtered they're treated humanely and not pumped full of those strange things agribusiness is experimenting on us...they die with a smile on their faces, translated to smiles on our faces and stomachs. The guacamole is pretty damn good, too, and vegetarians can bypass the corpses in favor of the farty fruits. Oh yeah, and they use romaine lettuce! Too bad this chain originated in hateful Denver, but I can't fault the food for it. (I'll tend to you yet, Denver, don't you worry.)

    (4)
  • Kenneth H.

I would give them a better rating if they stopped pretending to be Mexican food and acknowledged that they are just some sort of mexican-ish feed factory. Truth be told I actually like the food quite a bit and eat at a Chipotle when I am in a hurry or am feeling something a little on the healthier side (I usually get the veggie burrito). I give them good marks for their attempt to be sustainable/healthy/etc, but really if that is your thing why are you even thinking about eating at a corporate fast food behemoth? Chipotle is truly a souless fast food place that assembles your food instead of cooking it, but it is WAY better than the unholy crap that is Taco Bell.

    (3)
  • John T.

A healthy alternative to greasy fast food, not to say the food is slow :) (Kind of ironic being that I constantly see mentioning of McD's). For just under $6 depending on the meat choice and whether you want your burrito in the form of a salad bowl or not, you get good portions, tasty food, and health conscious ingredients. When I feel the need to increase my intake of veggies and good protein I go for their vegetarian salad bowl ($5.60): Roman lettuce, rice, black beans, bell peppers & onions, chucky tomato salsa, corn salsa, cream cheese, shredded cheese and guacamole. Their guacamole is delicious and soooooo good for you. It's made fresh daily and packed with vitamins. And college students get free drinks (ooohhh yeah).

    (4)
  • Hector B.

I had their veggie bowl and loved it. Their chips have a salty-lemon hint to it! Yum! I know I'll be going back time and time again. I hear that they give free drinks if you have a student ID.

    (5)
  • Mike S.

Chipotle is delicious. The menu is simple and the food tastes like real food - not fast food greasy garbage. You watch everything that is put in so you know exactly what you are getting. With food like this, who needs authentic?

One of the worst experiences at chipotle. Today I did the Portland bridge pedal and was very hungry for a big meal figuring chipotle would do the job. The guy who first served me gave me the smallest portion I have ever seen at chipotle (just because I'm a woman doesn't mean I'm on a diet, give me what I order) I mean... The rice and beans should be an adequate amount to fill a layer of the bowl then the guy passes my chicken bowl to another worker (who I asked for more chicken from because the guy gave me half a spoonful and then I asked for sour cream and she literally put an entire scoop of that huge ass spoonful onto my very small portion of rice, beans, and meat. I was disgusted and frankly I just wanted to leave. To be honest, I love chipotle, it's a great company plus I live down the street from it. However, that was not a good chipotle experience whatsoever and I really don't want to go back there anytime soon. I've read recent posts and people have agreed with me in the past, portion size has gone down with recent price increase. If anyone knows chipotle they know that their menu hasn't changed except for the addition of sofritas. If everything is so good, usually consistent, and STUDENTS especially are coming to THIS location everyday. We should expect what we always have expected, a large portion of food and a good vibe from the employees. Not impressed, not happy. Look at the first photo in their pictures. Case and point.

Horrible service. An unhappy middle aged woman who claims to be the manager always has an attitude. She doesn't listen to my requests, over charges me, rips me off completely and then argues while literally throwing my food at me. I have friends who also have had encountered her rude ways of treating customers. Charge me full price for a bean and cheese bowl (seriously, that's all I order), when I ask for guac she charges me even more... really? REALLY?! Not to mention the portion sizes here are small. I don't even know why I bother going to this location. The manager who refused to give me her name should be fired. There are plenty of people who would gladly take her job and be much better at it.

    (1)
  • Brittany B.

I am no chipotle fan. I have tried and tried, but when you spend $6 dollars on two tacos and have to throw them away, you don't really like a place. My biggest issue here is the quality of meat that chipotle claims is good. It is NOT. The chicken is always fatty and stringed together and it grosses me out completely. I am sorry chipotle but your food is gross and your prices for the food are ridiculous. Rant over.

    (1)
  • Greg K.

I've always been a fan of chipotle, and it's worth noting that the employees here are very friendly and efficient. But the portions have gotten ridiculously small over the past year. My last stop at this place will be my last. The rice, beans, and meat barely covered half the tortilla and when I actually ate the burrito, it took half the burrito before I got a single bite of meat. Seriously wondering how long Chipotle can last going in it's current direction. Rapidly decreasing portions accompanied by increasing prices. It's simply just no longer worth it to go to Chipotle over a food cart or independently owned burrito joint, where you can get a better burrito, with twice the food, for half the price. Ciao Chipotles.

This is my favorite Chipotle in downtown. They speed through the line, are friendly and professional, and the food is consistently good.

Mexican Cuisine
