I've been disappointed by the Hawthorne location so many times I nearly swore off this local chain completely. But when the burrito cravings hit and you don't have time to get La Sirenita on a 30 min lunch break, you make exceptions. I don't know if my expectations were so low going in or if it was that good, but I was pleasantly surprised as everything was flavorful! I don't know if they've made me a permanent convert but I think I won't be as quick in the future to discount them as an option.

They've one thing worth eating -- the poblano omelette. I believe that's only available Saturday and Sunday. I live close by, and because the two taco carts in the 'hood are closed on Sunday, I find myself occasionally eating Cha Cha Cha's "food." Today I got chorizo tacos. I know their food is bland and gringoized, but I figured they couldn't mess up chorizo too much -- it's flavorful stuff, right? Not the way they do it. Lean and bland -- like overcooked ground beef. Just terrible. Everything tastes like it's off the kids menu. Over-priced, gringo, yuppie fake Mexican food that tastes like cardboard. They have a really nice tequila selection -- I'll give them that.

I've gone to this restaurant a few times. The food is OK nothing great but it is so close to where I live in North Portland,. I am reviewing the one on N. Lombard. I took my granddaughter to the Green Day Musical a few weekends ago and we went to Cha Cha Cha for a late night snack. To my surprise they had half the restaurant closed with chairs on the tables while the other half had quite a few diners. It was 9:40 and I was told they close at 10 but they stop serving in the restaurant by 9:30 so they can be gone by 10. I noticed the grill was being cleaned off and all the servers, bar tender, manager were around the cash register assuring me I could get something to go but we couldn't sit down. Has restaurant service changed so much over the years that diners are secondary to the comfort and desires of the staff? Clearly they wanted to be out of there as fast as possible. I have never been in a restaurant that puts up chairs anywhere in the place while people are still present and eating. Not even when it is past closing time that was not the case here. Also, the food is better at the Cha Cha Cha in the Northwest. Just saying.

(This is for the NE Broadway location)There comes a moment where a yelp review might be unfair. This time is now because my expectations are unrealistic. I am from Los Angeles. I cannot diss the Mexican fare this far north of the border. I can only praise that it's even available for me to eat. Cha Cha Cha you try to be a taqueria/restaurant/thing but I'm not sure what you're going for. The prices are really decent as Mexican street food isn't expensive to make. The space here is very nice for a Cha Cha Cha. Much nicer than the rest. The burritos here satisfy by getting the job done for only 4.95. While I miss the telenovelas on a t.v. with dried roses and Lady Guadalupe candles alongside it, I won't find that in a taqueria without booking a flight back home. If you're looking to itch your Mexi come to Cha Cha Cha. The Williams location is the best of the bunch.

This is my favorite location. Nothing better then waiting on your oversized burrito with a margarita.

This is a great go-to spot for a quick bite to eat, or a savory special dish. I'm impressed by the fact that it's possible to eat a large plate of taquitos with shredded lettuce, tomato, guac, and crema for $5. The Williams location is great. I've ordered favorite dishes at the Fremont location and been disappointed. And they most certainly do indeed give you free chips and salsa for dine-in meals.

The food is good and the price makes it even better! I tried the carne asada quesadillas and the portion was so big that I couldn't even finish it (and I normally try to finish everything). They even have a vegetarian menu for all you non meat eaters out there. BTW you order up at the bar and seating is first come first serve.

I like Cha Cha Cha, as a concept. It's not gourmet, but it's not horrible, and this Williams St. location is a good fusion of a nice open spot, good service and OK food. I enjoyed 3 soft shell tacos here, the fish, chicken and pork. I think the chicken was best, as the pork was fatty and the fish I tossed because my mother told me it's ALWAYS better to be safe than sorry. But I would go back, and I have to say that I've heard that Cha Cha Cha is best for burritos. So, dear reader, I'd say give it a try, if all else fails it's an excellent place to grab a cool beverage and enjoy the chips and guac.

there's nothing i dislike more than yuppified mexican food. it cost more and tastes worse than the real thing. fish taco was bland and empty. potato taquitos were basically rolled up tater tots. no condiment bar. no free chips......fweak man.

We stumbled into Cha Cha Cha when we found that Tasty and Sons was going to be an hour wait. I ordered a Poblano omelet and it was excellent. It came with melon pieces that had some sort of citrus sauce on it that made them very tasty. It also came with potatoes which were cooked just right. The whole dish was one of the best meals I've had in some time, so I was surprised to read the other middling reviews here. My wife ordered the Pacifico Ceviche which she said was very good as well. The prices are very reasonable for the quality, in my opinion, and the service was very friendly and efficient.

First of all- the waitresses were super friendly, and the outdoor seating was nice. My entree I really disliked though unfortunately, and I only ate about two bites of it(it was really bitter- to me, frankly inedible). I ordered some sides of beans and tortillas instead of eating my main dish. When the waitress asked if I didn't like the main dish at the end of the meal(it was left there on the plate pretty intact), I was honest but not rude nor asking for a discount- but was a bit put off that she still charged me the full amount for it. She wasn't rude or anything, and neither was I- it was totally fine in that regard- but I would have walked away much happier having not paid $17 just to eat chips, salsa, beans, and tortillas.

This is by far the worst cha cha change. The portion sizes and contents of foods are always random. There is always a long wait for food even when there is no one else there but employees. Go to the Broadway location or port que no instead.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
