Rip off. $9 empanada meal = Beans, rice and two tiny corn tortillas folded over with three pieces of corn in each one.

Cold migas, no poblano strips in the poblano omelette, no water for upwards of 10 minutes, and no sign of the server after the food arrived. I wanted to like this place but there were just too many flaws.

Um, $2 veggie tacos = awesome.

I ventured to Cha Cha Cha because I live in the neighborhood and I heard that it was a reasonably priced place to eat. I'm happy to report that I was not lied to. The range is pretty much $5-7. I ordered two enchiladas and asked if they could make them spicy. I couldn't believe when they asked if I wanted habaneros in my enchiladas. I felt like I had died and gone to spicy food heaven. My enchiladas came out sprinkled with fresh habaneros and fit my spicy food fix. Cha Cha Cha is a great place to grab some tex-mex without draining your pocketbook or your time-bank.

Good food for totally reasonable prices. Their $6 burritos really hit the spot. Some Cha Cha Cha locations are nicer than others, and I'd say this one is suited best for take out orders. Sometimes the staff can seem a little too preoccupied with their own conversations.

Doh!! 0/3 at this location. Uninspired and bland are the two adjectives that come to mind. The salsa was a watery mess with no cilantro, kick or lime to speak of; guac. was a watery paste. Talipia burrito under wine creme sauce was bland with crispy (i.e., overcooked) spanish rice inside. Server was a space cadet and forgot waters and beers (twice!). $30 dinner that the two of us wish didn't happen. Lesson learned.

They are very accommodating with children. Usually u have to order ur food at the front. But they bring you menus when u have kids. Very helpful.

Their burritos are excellent 90% of the time, but it shouldn't take 20 min to get a f**king simple burrito to go! Were they wringing the chickens neck in the back? And god forbid you want extra salsa! I usually get one salsa w/o asking, then i ask for three and they give me only one more! It's just a 2 oz salsa, jeez!

Cha Cha Cha proves one can take great organic foods and create bad Mexican food. The secret to good food still is how you put these together. Here the sauces (had red and green) were lacked any interestingness and flavor. The rice could well have been out of a mix from the grocery store. The beans were worse than those straight out of a can. The margs, on the other hand, were not bad for the mix kind. Overall, with so many good fresh Mexican restaurants in PDX and with other great places to eat in this area, I won't be coming back

Very kind and thoughtful staff- have an onion allergy & staff made fresh guacamole w/no onions! Huevos rancheros were excellent as was Chorizo omelet...will definitely visit again!

I wish I had something to say about this place but I just wanted to give it 3 stars to stabilize overly negative and/or positive reviews.

Really good, huge burritos. For the price, it's a killer deal. Not the best I've had, but nowhere near the worst.

The waitress replaced our stale chips, but only after telling us that they were in fact fresh. The new basket of chips, fortunately, didn't have the same cardboard texture. The not stale chips made the barely mediocre salsa and guacamole edible. Barely. Pretty much any salsa from a jar would've been a step up from their so-called fresh salsa and the guacamole tasted so much like egg salad that there must've been mayonnaise in it. The Spanish rice had been sitting around so long that there were crispy bits and the peas in the rice were were all wrinkled up. The chicken had that texture and flavor that chicken gets when it's been sitting in a warming tray way too long. The tortillas were fresh, though. Then there were the margaritas. No balance whatsoever. There is a strong possibility that there was no tequila at all in our margaritas. I've had many great meals at other Cha! Cha! Cha! locations, but this was the worst meal out that I've had in a very long time. Maybe it was just an off night, but at $42 + tip (thankfully, the lousy margaritas were happy hour priced or it would've been more), I wouldn't take another chance on the place. Especially since when we offered our feedback on the meal, politely, it was very apparent that they couldn't care less (apparently, when the waitress asked "How is everything?" it wasn't really a question meant to be answered). So disappointing.

Very bland food, not how I remembered it. Very disappointed, I was so excited to go there.

As much as I like the atmosphere here, I really feel I need to stop going to this location. Each time I have gone here, what I get is much different from what I ordered. Even when I make the same order, what I get is never consistent. My last visit was especially heart breaking. I simply ordered nachos, with no meat. What I got was nothing but chips with beans and cheese. It was like they gave it to me too early, mid preparation! Where's the tomatoes, onion, and cilantro? AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE GUACAMOLE! Anyone that knows me knows I'm a sucker for guacamole so this was quite disappointing. This was a take out order and I didn't notice it until I got to my destination to eat. I felt like I was just eating a cheese grease ball. Even if they were to get my future orders right, I just hate having to feel like I have to double check everything or wonder what's going to get messed up this time. I can't say the food is worth really going back for anyway, though I wouldn't necessarily know.

Probably the most bland and boring mexican style food available in Portland. Avoid!

  • Rick W.

Tasty beef in the Mama Beef but that's about all the burrito had going for it. Flaccid tortilla streaming liquid down the side until I can make a bowl of soup if they would have provided a spoon. The salsa was disappointing, with a bevy of chopped onions that would have been done had the tomatoes been flavorful enough to partner up. The chips are apparently meant to be salted by bringing in your own salt shaker. They had no flavor and were a little bit stale

  • Wayne C.

    decent food, nothing memorable.

Five of us came here for dinner. The place was busy but service was good. I had the chicken pecan special that was a chicken breast covered in sauce on jasmine rice and spinach leaves with pecans. I did not see or taste the pecans, the sauce had a very subtle flavor--not spicy hot. While I liked it, my taste buds/nose may have been tired because there were no strong flavors. The others enjoyed their meals though they didn't report anything as outstanding. One person had a huge bowl of soup with lots of meat and beans that he couldn't finish and took the leftover home. The decor is trendy and colorful as this restaurant is in a neighborhood with lots of young people and hip restaurants, cafes and bars. Many residents commute via bicycle and the rack around the corner was full of bikes.

The food at this location is pretty blah. Guacamole is watery and bland. Tortilla soup tastes like canned Campbell's tomato. Taco salad was meh. Salsas aren't even hot and they serve pickled jalapeños to spice things up. Doesn't taste fresh. The saving grace were the chips, but not really. Cha cha blah. Go to La Cocina on mlk. They will rock your world.

I am Mexican so for me the food is far from good, but if you like texmex food you may like this place

One of North Portland's best eateries. A great place for affordable drinks, great portion sizes and free chips and salsa. This a great place to eat with friends or family when wanting to eat out but do it on the cheap. I'm a huge fan of the Enchilada with red or even green sauce and leave full and satisfied. Only real downfall here is the seating isn't very confy and the menu seems pretty limited; however CHEAP DRINKS!! Woot!!

we hadn't been to cha cha cha's in some time....i began with a bottle of corona, and my partner had the pacifico on tap...i had the mexicana salad with wild salmon, and she had the el organico burrito with mojada style....very delicious...the server was extra nice and quick...thx!

Went with the fam on a Saturday afternoon. All I can say is MEH. I was expecting "Mexican" food, but this was really more like Tex-Mex. Or gringo Mexican food. It tasted okay, but it definitely wasn't authentic. [If you want truly authentic Mexican food, go to Super Torta on Woodstock!!] And the service? Jeez. The waitress earned every penny of her $2 tip :( Super slow, unenthusiastic...and she brought our waters in the smallest glasses I've ever seen. Like tapwater is that expensive.

The convenience factor plays a major part in why I eat lunch here. I have never been crazy about the other locations, I've always thought the food was bland and the service awkward. Now that I work near a Cha Cha Cha, I thought I would try more things on the menu and see if I could figure out why they're so successful. Nope, this place is very similar to the West Moreland location. I think they have way too many items on their menu and sacrifice quality over quantity. If you find something you like here, just order it each time. Otherwise, you will be disappointed when it's not as good. This has happened to me twice. I know you're thinking that there are a million other things to try, but I really can't afford $8 burritos. I make burritos at home all the time, so it's stupid to spend so much money on what used to be considered "roach coach" food. La Bonita on Alberta charges similarly high prices for their Mexican food, but it is much more flavorful. Also, I think there are less yuppie moms there...

I have eaten here multiple times and had something different each time. The food is just ok, nothing stood out to me. Beans: fresh, creamy and not over seasoned Rice: well cooked Veggies: we're decently fresh and crunchy Meat: ok, gristly at times Tortillas: store bought

I don't want to sound too harsh, but I would avoid their burritos. Unlike small mom and pop shops, their burritos do not have a back. They are clumsy and fall apart easily. It is as if I'm trying to hold a newborn. I like my burritos to be stiff and stuffed with ingredients by workers who are efficient as that of seasoned Tetris players. They need to know how to stuff a burrito. Overall, Cha's burritos are average compared to Locos Locos and King Burrito. Nah.

Average Mexican food. Expensive for what you get. Much prefer going to the local Taco place for better/cheaper fare.

Happy hour between 3-6 and again from 10-close. Some of the nicest, friendliest servers, and well, they're pretty awesome. The food, so good + cheap + worth the money!

This is our favorite place to go on weekend mornings when there is an hour wait at all of the breakfast places in NE. They have great breakfast burritos and their pico de gallo salsa is always fresh and delicious. Great chips and guac as well and the staff is always very friendly and fun.

This was my first visit to the Cha! Cha! Cha! on N. Williams. We frequent the Lombard location, and expected the same level of food quality and service. I was totally disappointed! I think I would have been less so, had I not had different experiences with the other restaurant. First, the Pro's: Service was quick! The menu was identical to the one we are used to at the Lombard Location. Prices are cheap. Con's: No chips and salsa before the meal. My kids were hungry, and I expected them to have this since the other location does. The food did not look or taste the same, even though I ordered my regular dish. The Spanish rice had peas and carrots in it. Weird and yucky! The staff ordered pizza from Pizza Hut and ate it at a table next to us, while we ate our meal. I felt like I was in a mall food court. Overall, this felt much more like a mexican fast food experience than the other location. We'll stick with Lombard next time!

I've been to almost all the locations, and I love the food and service. Great happy hour prices and large portions. Just an all-around more-than-decent Tex Mex place that is very reliable and consistent. The N Williams location has the additional bonus of being in a cool building with lots of other shopping and restaurants around.

I had mentioned in a previous post that I don't like to share. Especially businesses that I like. But not the ones that I love. The ones I love I feel an obligation to tell others about- because the business should know how great a job they're doing. My friend and I absolutely ADORE ChaChaCha. On spontaneous nights when we're in the mood for... well, food, we try by any means possible to go here. I don't get the chance to make it out to NoPo very often, and when I do it has to be for good reason. Ambiance: Sultry, sensual, but warm and friendly. Earth tones, eye-catching paintings and soft music. Service: always good. Always. When I'm there I'm usually served by the two same people; I think they're husband and wife. The woman looks to be of Hispanic or Peruvian descent. So beautiful- Food: Orgasmic. So damn good. I never use the term (and the food itself is good but not in itself orgasmic), but the sum of everything (ambiance+service+food) really makes everything a beautiful experience. The last time I was there I asked our server if they served Mexican Hot Chocolate. 'No' the beautiful woman replied, it's not on the menu, but she does know how to make it, so she walked to the kitchen and made it for me from scratch. Basically, everything at Cha is, in two words, muy delicioso.

Can't go wrong with a burrito. Unless the rice is a bit over cooked, and the steak was too chewy, I had to knaw my food, and the service is having a bad day. Interior is fun and colorful. It's located around some really interesting shops. Perhaps I'll need to come back to check out more in the area.

After failing to watch a sabering (you can't call it "sabering" when you use some kind of machete, monsoor froggy) and munching some macaroons (okay, that's *three* good things about France) I was hungry. I saw this location and realized that A: I'd never been to this Cha^3 and B: I hadn't been to any CHA^3 in quite a while. Had to rectify that. I don't know why they went to menus instead of having a big board everyone can look at. I also don't recall them having the "classico" burrito last time I visited. It was a pretty dang good burrito. Cha^3, however, is NOT the place to drop by if you have any kind of time constraints. I forgot, my bad. Fortunately the lady who delivered my order was very gracious when I asked her if I could have my already plated burrito to go. She also offered up a to go cup for the glass of pop I was working on. Oh yeah. Only warning, this is a yuppies-with-double-strollers-pushing-six-year-old-kids-who-should-damn-well-be-walking neighborhood, so expect an abundance of poorly parented little shits underfoot.

Given the location, the price is right. Also, the owners and workers are very kind, it has a fine beer selection, and the food is fine. Probably the cheapest meal in that area unless you are willing to go to fremont & Vancouver for Quesabrosa.

I've been to all of the locations, and I always regret going to this one instead of a different. I don't know if it's just under staffed or what but it's just always slow.

Been to other locations and more pleased. Service seemed disinterested in us. Super Bowl was great, but the Cha nachos were the smallest we have ever had, and had little on them. We were asked if we wanted chips and salsa, but no charge was mentioned. Suddenly $2.50 on the bill and no itemized bill given to us. Would have been nice to mention the charge--we would have passed. Water never refilled. Before you say anything, place was nearly empty just before dinnertime on a Saturday. Love the menu, but we won't be back to this location, that's for sure. Much better treatment and same or better food in our visits to other locations. For bringing in our expectations from other locations, this was a disappointing stop.

I've been to a couple of the Cha Cha Cha's in pdx and I have to say this has been my worst experience yet. Cons: - We came here for the patio and our table almost collapsed and needed some TLC. - The gave my husband a chicken burrito instead of his vegan burrito - My chimichangas were lackluster Pros: - They have an AMAZING patio (they just need to deal with their tragic broken table we sat at) - The service was friendly So Dear Cha Cha Cha, please deal with this, this location is right by my new place and I'd love to come eat way too many calories of Mexican food on a fantastic patio for a sunny day.

Decent vegan burritos, semi decent prices. The almond crusted tofu is delicious and a treat. The people who work here are friendly and I am pleased with the amount of vegan food on the menu. I wish their was a larger salsa selection.

i always think going here is a good idea. and then i actually go there. and its usually not a good idea. i go here, though, because i live 2 blocks away, and sometimes when i'm next door at ristretto i've realized that morning coffee at noon isn't really morning, and most people are eating lunch by now and i should probably do the same. i should say though, that i have had good nachos at more than one cha cha cha, including this one. BUT, that's pretty much it for this place. burritos are pretty mediocre, and about half the size of the burritos from quesbrosa (fremont and williams! just a few blocks away!). and the ingredients are always in little segments separate from each other, never throughout the burrito, which is a big pet peeve for me... i dont like all my guacamole at the bottom. ugh. i've had multiple burritos and tacos from here, but really the only thing i should order are nachos. (with picadillo, because they make it with sliced almonds and raisins, the same way my grandma used to make it; so amazing.) also, i ordered pinto beans and got black beans in my chorizo burrito last time, and i hate black beans a bit more than most people probably would, so i'm probably overly judging them for that... i guess its kind of on the inexpensive side (nachos are around $6, burritos around $5), so that might be one draw, but its also overpriced for some things as well.

This is the latest incarnation of one of my favorite Mexican food places here in Portland... "Hidden away" in the newly constructed HUB, this Cha Cha Cha is, in my opinion, the perfect combination of the Taqueria-style Broadway version and the "sit-down" Fremont version. They both have the same amazing food... As with most of my reviews, the wet-burrito is my favorite as for only a buck they cover a burrito in Enchilada sauce and add Guacamole and Sour Cream, along with their own Pico mix. They do have a Happy Hour that's pretty good and their taco salads are just the right size. Put this all on top of being within walking distance to my house and it's a winning combination of Mexican food in my belly. The wait staff is very friendly and makes you feel very comfortable. It's a small place, but it's also got outside seating. As with anything at the HUB there isn't any parking but the side streets are close and provide the necessary space if you decide to drive. If you're on the north side and want some quick and yummy Mexican food, try Cha Cha Cha!

Where else can you get a delicious almost football size burrito for 5 bills? Enough said. Yum!!!

Delish. The happy hour menu isn't super generous in it's portions but I could eat taquitos and drink margaritas all night at that spot. I think I saw the owners cuddling in the corner, too, which gave it a cute mom n pop feel. Their borrito mojado is pretty good too.

i like big burritos and i cannot lie / you other brothers can't deny / when a waitress walks in with a plate posthaste / and a round thing in your face / you get FULL ... ok i actually never have the burritos at a chachacha, but that's not on account of size or quality, i just like the chimichanga and torta classica better. this place features rather slower food prep time than the pearl location i frequent, but has the same el-cheapo menu with a way better bar and slightly better ambiance. so it's still a pretty big win!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
