The service was not pleasant at all. I came in and was not so much greeted as I was instructed to order. I said I needed a little time as I usually do not know the menu of a place I just set foot inside. After that the staff person escaped to the back room and didn't return till much much later. I have actually been there twice with this same experience. The first time i ordered a Greek salad in one of those teeny tiny take out boxes that was $4 for some reason and the second time I got a vegetarian sandwich that was $7 for some reason. Neither was great or even close to the value of what they cost'd

So far I think this is the Caper's Cafe right inside PDX. This place is right past the security check. Since I missed my flight from having such a great time here in Portland, this place was perfect for killing some time, eating some food, and getting a drink. Had myself a nice Skyy vodka, and a somewhat dry quiche. Bartenders were lively but this is also inside the airport so the tables were nice and calm. You just walk up to the desk and place an order, you get a number, pay for your food, find a table, and they bring it to ya. Simple as pie. They brought me the food before I was even able to set up my laptop to write this review. What a country!

Great place to eat with many different salad dishes. Check the website for the daily lunch specials - they offer various meals that you probably wouldn't find at other places and they often times have home made soups that are amazing. I eat lunch here once every couple of weeks and the service is always good. I have also used them to cater a surprise get together for my Dad once and the catering service was good, they were on time and the food was perfect! My favorite item at the location - Turkey Shell Pasta - this salad is the best!

I have never had a bad experience here. The food is great, and I love the selection. They have alot of various salads in which you can add to you sandwich. Everyone that works there is nice and welcoming. Good food, good service, good prices, what more can you want?

This review is for Capers Cafe on Ainsworth, NOT at the airport. I had a decent Chicken Ceasar salad today. My colleague's all had different sandwiches and said they were good. I like this place because it's close to work and I hate only having Taco Del Mar, Red Robin, Ihop and Mcdonalds as my options for lunch. Sometimes you just need a deli-type place that's not Subway.

Passable breakfast at the airport. Passable. As in I ate it, and then some time later that day I passed it. So that was successful. Most of the breakfast offerings here are pretty greasy. Croissant sandwiches, omelets, quiches, bagel sandwiches, etc. I've sampled some of each, and all have one thing in common. Lots of butter (or some sort of grease). The food is of okay quality ingredients, and the service is your average deli counter quality. There aren't really any healthy options on this menu, so if you're the kind of person who doesn't need to eat a bunch of heavy food before getting on a multi hour flight, you may want to pack a bar instead. This restaurant is 3 stars by virtue of the fact that it's in an airport, and I've had some atrociously bad airport food lately. Anywhere else this would be a solid 2.

Okay, first I have to point out this is not at PDX. There's a separate profile for that location. ATMOSPHERE: First thing I noticed when I entered was carpeting. In Portland, there are two kinds of eating establishments that lay carpeting: Upscale, and wannabe upscale. I guess Capers is the latter. Immediately offputting, but no big deal. Second observation: not a single customer in the place. Uh oh. Third observation: no music. Okay, this is getting creepy. I approached the counter where you place your order, and where their salads are on display (like a deli case). The salad trays were all covered with plastic film. The hot section (steam table) was all covered up. Based on all these observations, I said "I guess you're closing up early" (it was about an hour before the closing time posted on the sign). But no, she said they're open until the posted closing time. So I ordered up a trio of cold salads and ate at the counter facing the windows. A guy kept bringing in paper bags and dropping them off on the customer-seating counter where I was eating. I assume he was working on a catering project, or maybe just bringing in a few things he had to pick up locally. Anyway, it was awkward. Just contributed to me feeling out of place. As I ate, I glanced around at the decor: A large doorway that used to connect to another space, but has now been drywalled over, but not yet painted; a piece of rolled up carpeting remnant; artwrk obviously intended for the wall, but sitting on the counter and leaning up against something already mounted on the wall, partially obscuring it; cases (and partials) of beverages all over, as if they don't have enough room in back. It had that look of a place that about to move out, or had just moved in. I did like the Ralph Steadman print on the wall next to me, and a cute little bonzai shrub on the window ledge, and the tall narrow vessels (vases) filled with rocks at the bottom and faux apples on top. Nicely placed, fit the room well, but the wax fruit was cheap looking, especially the sole pear at the top that was stage-prop quality. Anyway, my point is that there a few indications that somebody was making some effort at some point in the past. FOOD: I had a potato salad, a tortellini salad, and a rice/fennel salad. All were fine, flavors well proportioned, textures good (tortellini was a bit firm, but I'd prefer that to mushy). I can't really judge a place by their cold salads, but for what it's worth, these were maybe about at the high end of what you might hope to get at a grocery-store deli. I'd like to try the tortellini salad hot. PRICE/VALUE: A pretty healthy portion of food and a V8 for $9.50 doesn't sound too bad, until you consider what it was and where it was. Still, not objectionable. I think the best I could have hoped for would be $7.50, so they're not too far off. RESTROOMS: A bit run down, but not gross. There's not one of those indicators that tells people if it's occupied, and the doorknob lock didn't have a positive reassuring feel to it, so I would have half-expected somebody to barge in on me if the place was busy. OVERALL: What the heck is going on here? I used to come here for lunch when I worked in the neighborhood, maybe back around the late 1990s. It was a nice casual place to grab lunch, and although it was ostensibly less "fancy" than some other places in the area, it more than made up for it with a somewhat quircky and authentic vibe. But now...I think they're focusing on the catering, and maybe this is also acting as commissary for their PDX location. Bottom line, this was the weirdest most uncomfortable eating experience since...I don't know when. If I were to come back tommorrow at noon, maybe I'd see the old Capers I used to like. But really, do you think Capers is going on my list of places to revisit?

This place takes the cake for being the single most manic experience I've EVER had at any restaurant any where... Vampira awaits in her lair behind a steamy hot pile of savory looking scones to take my order. I ask her how she's doing and she snorts through one of the holes in her nose that she's doing fine and what the hell do I want to eat goddamnit. I want the breakfast bagel on sourdough toast with bacon. Long story. So, THEN, I walk up to the pay counter and I'm greeted by Mary fucking Poppins. I mean, "HI! HOW ARE YOU TODAY? WOULD YOU LIKE A SPOON FULL OF FUCKING SUGAR IN YOUR FACE? I know I would!! Hey, have a supercalifragilisticexpialidocious day!" Thank you Portland. You've put me back in touch with my inner scared shitless child.

I have NEVER seen so much butter on a dish in my life as I did with the breakfast sandwich from Capers. People, listen to me, it was DRIPPING off my bagel. Gross. Double gross. You (and your airplane neighbor) will thank me for this warning.

This place is fast and good for a reasonable price. They have different lunch specials. I had their low fat chicken taco salad. It was very good. Clean restaurant, friendly staff, easy parking. B+/A-

Very rarely use this terminal at PDX; but was starving yesterday at 11AM, when I cleared security and noticed Capers Cafe. Ordered a simple turkey sandwich to go, on WW, hold the cream cheese; Placed the order, not really crowded and a fair amount of personnel working the cooking area, 6+. Bottom line 22 minutes later was handed my brown bag. I was horrified by what I received, 2 thin slices of dry roast turkey, cranberry sauce about 1" in diameter on each half (god forbid you use a knife to evenly spread the condiment on the entire slice of bread), with 2 little pickles, one translucent thin slice of provolone and some lettuce. Basically a poorly constructed sandwich containing inadequate, questionable quality and quantity of food as their finished product. Great location, looks like it would be a good choice at the airport but unfortunately based on my 1st and only experience, it appears to be all show and no go!! I have no intention of frequenting again; Make my own Boars Head deli sandwich at home or if need be, Elephant Deli must better choice!! Safe travels

Pdx location. Some pretty low key blue collar chiller wave local vibes. Full deli menu. Beats going to corporate places like subway.

This is a great lunch spot near PDX. There's another location in the terminal but this is a separate location. They have a nice selection of cold salads, green salads, soups, sandwiches, and some hot plates as well. Lots of gluten-free, vegetarian & vegan options, and everything is well labeled. Will definitely be frequenting this place, now that I've discovered it, since it's a nice change of pace from all the chains & corporate restaurants in the area.
