Can I give this place negative stars? I was really excited to find a mainly-veg restaurant while out shopping, being that I live in Spokane. My food was ok--at first. I had the Chilean zucchini bowl, and it wasn't the best thing I've ever tasted, but it wasn't bad. I decided to also try the teriyaki tempeh skewer. Again, just ok...that is, until I found a huge hair embedded into the mixture that comprises the skewer. Not a hair ON my food, a hair INSIDE my food. I didn't want to have an awkward conversation with the cashier, so instead I left the rest of it on the table with a note pointing out the hair. Never again.

I've learned to make the edamame wrap at home, but I still can't get everything quite right, which keeps me coming back. I would eat here every other day if I could.

Cafe Bleh! It's a cute little joint right in downtown, I walked by it several times before stopping in. I don't remember what I ordered but it wasn't very good! It was just a bowl of overcooked rice with veggies and beans on the side. Sauce was bland, portions were small, and the overall experience left me unsatisfied. Sadly, I prefer the microwaveable Hawaiian chicken bowls that they sell in a pack of 6 at Costco over this. There are a lot of better options to eat at in downtown. Skip this one!

Overall Opinion **It's just a pricier version of a Whole Bowl. Their "Yumm Sauce" (Sounds like something 15 year olds giggle at) **Very tart and not as creamy as they describe** It is just hipster fast food, I prefer to spend $3 less and go to Whole Bowl.

This place is close to work and I've been recommended to give this place a whirl. I did just that and wasn't really blown away by it. The staff appear to be friendly and helpful but the food honestly just seems like something I could easily make myself at home for cheaper. I went with the Yumm! Baby bowl since there are no beans in it (not the biggest fan of them). The bowl consisted of Thai jasmine rice, extra avocado (which I also opted out of since I dislike the taste), the Original Yumm sauce, and the deluxe toppings (olives, shredded Tilamook cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, sour cream). I almost felt like I was eating a burrito in a bowl (which I never really do since I like the tortilla). It was interesting and yet again, just alright. I don't know if I'd go back here again just because nothing really stood out to me and made my tastebuds shout. Cafe Yumm! is definitely a wholesome option for those trying to eat healthy.

Nice vegan place for a quick stop and run!! It is my go-to, as I really like the bowl...

My friend works nearby and this is one of his favorite lunch spots. I was lucky enough to tag along during a visit to Portland last weekend and I enjoyed my Jazzy Bowl. We couldn't really tell what was the difference between that and the Original Bowl at the time. Upon reading through some reviews, I realize that the Jazzy is supposed to have more spice, but my friend adds hot sauce to his Original anyway so his was actually spicier. Cost: About $22 for 3 bowls. * Jazzy Bowl - 4 stars pic: yelp.com/biz_photos/cafe… Really nice! I had to pick out the olives, but I loved the mushy mixture of rice and sauce and flavors. You gotta really make sure to mix it well, get the avocado mushed up in there though! The rice is just the perfect texture, soft and kind of sticky, soaks up a lot of flavors.

I had to try it twice. Flavors are good, P-lenty of vegetarian and vegan options. Pros: Order IN, and your bowl (if you order the large) will be good sized, and very filling. All ingredients are in their own little portion of this little food nest, and mixing them all together makes it just that much better. Cons: Order to GO, and your bowl is a what looks like a 12 ounce soup container. I really don't know how they can say it's the same sized portion. I think if I spilled the ingredients from the to go order into the large bowl, it wouldn't even come to the top. I even said, "this is the LARGE", the guy said "yep". Hmm. So, if you're not hungry and in a hurry - go ahead and order to go. Me, I'm staying in and enjoying what seems like a bigger portion while all the to go saps get their tiny soup containers.

Not from Portland, searched yelp for gluten free places to eat at and this place came up. It's challenging at times to find places that really accommodate gluten free (I have celiac disease). The girl at the counter was super sweet, showed me their gf menu and suggested an original yum bowl. I asked if they could be careful when making my food and she asked one of the cooks and he said it was already being made (which made me worried). The bowl was not very good...to be honest chipotle is way better and you get double for your money there. Plus for us gf people, chipotle is way more accommodating. Maybe the other items are better here but it definitely made me wish I went somewhere else.

You'll either get addicted to Café Yumm or you'll find it off-putting. I became an addict. I've been eating at Café Yumm since living in Eugene. I used to eat at the Oakway Center location almost everyday when I worked nearby. After moving to Portland, I was excited they were opening new locations here. We always have a bottle of the sauce in the household. The service remains pretty efficient and friendly. The food is still as guiltlessly delicious and as wholesome as ever. I always either get the bento with jasmine rice and BBQ tofu, or the original with no beans, no olives. My only complaints: 1.The bento never has enough sauce. 2. The bowls are too small and it's hard to mix the ingredients without spilling. My husband asks them to pre-mix for this reason and they're usually cool about it. He did get a weird stare a couple times.

This place is A-Ok. I have not been to a Café Yumm in quite some time and not much as changed. I used to go a lot when I lived in Corvallis and this location has a few pluses: 1. It's a larger, more open space. 2. It's in a great location downtown below my new-favorite parking garage. This makes it a convenient quick stop before going to see a movie or while out shopping. The food is still okay, it's a little concerning that their menu, at least in terms of their bowl selection, has *not* changed in the past 4 years. Their bowls are a great, quick option with lots of toppings and well cooked rice, but you are not going to find something spectacular here. I like to think of it as the Subway of rice bowls. The spicy "Hot and Jazzy" is not as spicy as I remember it but it is the one, for me, that has the most flavor. Note: Beware of the Yumm Sauce, it's addicting but not a "free food." Accessible entrance and large enough spaces to maneuver around in. Order/pay at the counter, take a number, they'll bring your food out to you, bus your own table. Beer and wine available.

I was resistant to this place for years. The idea being that I didn't like their sauce so therefore why would I want their food? Boy I was really wrong. In a moment of vegan despair for options (junipers was closed) I broke down and I went. You get to choose bowl size : big plus, you can choose meat or no meat: big plus. They have significant vegan options(not just the standard one that might be offered on the menu). They have avocado! In chunks! It's in the middle of downtown which makes lunch easy! And various forms of foods too. Salad, bowl, Burrito. I'm sold.

Yumm with two "m"s. Yumm with a capital "Y" for YESS! Yumm with...mfrrmmfmmm...oh, sorry, my mouth was full of delicious food that time. We ordered from Cafe Yumm! while working at the Convention Center (delivered by Portland Pedal Power). It took about an hour for delivery to our location (not bad) and our order....incredible. I had the SECRET ASIAN MAN (........nice naming) with tofu: field greens, tomato, carrots, red cabbage, cilantro, gluten-free Crispy Noodles, slivered almonds, Sweet Ginger Miso dressing ($9). This is a big'ol power salad. Filling and flavorful and texture-licious and absolutely vegetarian-approved! A great lunch option if you're looking for something light(-ish....my salad was still 650cal) and healthy-yumm.

This place is awesome, IMO. I've only ever had the Cafe Yumm Bowls, (specifically Deluxe) but that's enough to keep me coming back. It's not necessarily cheap for the portion sizes you're getting, but it's high quality food, which probably makes it more expensive. A small Yumm Bowl is $4.95 and is about the equivalent of a 1.5 cups of goodness. The Dexluxe Bowl comes with rice, beans, Yumm sauce, of course...and "deluxe toppings." So, avacado & cilantro, (barf) cheese, sour cream, tomatoes and olives. They kinda scimp on the sour cream, but that's okay. I don't need it. Honestly a refreshing meal, and the people who work here are very friendly. NOTE: You will *hate* the Yumm Sauce if you do NOT like hummus. The Yumm sauce is like a tangier hummus. So, FYI. And if you don't like it, feel free to pile it on my plate!!!

So happy I found this gluten-free cafe option. The sauce is the great and the prices are very affordable! I love their Chilean Zucchini Soup on a cold day, and their edamame yumm bowl with the nori on top is refreshing in the summer days. I recommend ordering the bowl in next bowl size up so you have room to mix your layers together. The Yumm Bowls are also a great party idea, we usually buy the Yumm Sauce and have friends bring different ingredients when we meetup.

I've always loved Cafe Yumm ever since college days in Eugene, where I would consciously try to be healthy after binging on alcohol the day before. The concept is very simple. I really do enjoy their yumm sauce especially chipotle. My favourite bowl to order is the hot and jazzy because I like a little kick with my food. The veggies, sauce, rice, beans and cheese always leave me feeling full and healthy. The cheese is just the amount of saltiness I need to not complain for meat! I sometimes get the wrap which also amazing. I'm gladd they've branched out to Portland. Please come to southeast. You are a hipster food and belong in the hipster area, I don't like to pay for parking for a $5 bowl! I've learned to buy the sauces and recreate the rice bowl myself at home. It's expensive sauce but will laat a while! Bonus: you can sub sour cream for yogurt!!

The ginger-garlic veggie burger is better than any meat burger I've ever had. The coffee has nice nutty undertones and everything tastes fresh and light. I wish I wasn't full so I could eat more!

Looking for good food that doesn't require to wait for a lifetime and doesn't pinch your wallet? Look no further. We decided to visit this place during the day of the soccer World Cup final for a quick meal and we weren't disappointed. The food was good with decently sized portions, and was quite tasty, too. I had a veggie rice bowl and that came topped with guac and sour cream and tasted really good. Good, (quite) healthy food for a decent price, this place.

If you work in a customer service job and you're having bad day, don't take it out on your customer. I won't be returning to this location just because of the service from the cashier today.

I'm being generous. I was on my way to Chipotle when my friend and I walked by Cafe Yumm. She mentioned how delicious their sauce is and I figured I should try it. Now I'm wishing I would have kept walking. I ordered the large original bowl and a side skewer of the BBQ baked tofu, all to go. With tip, this cost me almost $12. The food didn't take too long to come out, and pretty soon I was on my way home. Unfortunately, once I got home, I realized a couple things were wrong: 1) The baked tofu was way overcooked, tough, like an old sponge. Inedible, and it cost I think almost $4. 2) My bowl was missing the black beans. I just double checked their menu, and yeah, it's supposed to have beans. I ordered a large size thinking with the rice and beans it would be pretty filling and I'd have leftovers for lunch. Well, that totally didn't happen. You know where this wouldn't have been a problem? Chipotle. 3) The bowl itself was decently tasty but everything was really overpowered by the tart Yumm Sauce. They put way too much of it on my rice. The rice itself was pleasantly chewy. That was probably my favorite part of the bowl. So, I paid almost twice as much as at Chipotle, got about half the amount of food, part of that food was inedible, and the edible part was made incorrectly. Not getting takeout here again. I might try again if I need something quick for lunch and I can dine in. That way, if they mess up my order, I can let them know. But honestly, kitchen, your job isn't hard. Shape up. People are saying this is similar to The Whole Bowl. Unfortunately that cart has limited hours so I haven't tried yet, but I'd rather try something else before spending my money here again.

First off, let me say that my Star Count is based SOLELY on the food. If it wasn't for the food, which I genuinely enjoy, they'd get zero stars. Also, I'll continue to visit this location because it's close to my work and again, I do enjoy the food, when the employees actually get it right. (Every 10th time or so it's correct) The real reason they get so few stars is due to their staff. I consistently have poor customer service every single time I visit. No one is friendly, and all of them could benefit from a simple customer service class. I'll use my most recent encounter as an example because it was what prompted this review. I always call my order in because the line is long and I take a short lunch, I'm told on this day the wait is 20 minutes for a call in order. No problem because I can bring it back and eat at my desk... I arrived about 15 minutes later and the EXTREMELY rude girl picks up a sticky note with what is apparently my order and says "What did you get, I can't read this" - I repeat my order to her and at that moment she finally enters it into the computer for them to get started on it. I ask how long it'll be since I was told 20 minutes and need to get back to the office. Her response "20 minutes". At this point I'm a little upset and tell her I was already told 20 minutes about 20 minutes ago. No apologies on her part, just a snarky "We're busy". I get that you're busy, that's why I call in so you have time to make my order. Still, nothing. I'm pretty "hangry" at this point and just want to eat so I pay my money and go sit down to wait ANOTHER 20 minutes. Between this and them consistently getting my order wrong I'm considering visiting the other location downtown. The extra few blocks of walking may be worth not dealing with the bad customer service.

Seriously some of my favourite simple food in Portland. The food is classic, beans and rice, combinations there of with vegetables or chicken, avocado or olives, or what have you. Everything tastes so fresh and filling. Even a small portion here can hold you down for a few hours. And I'm personally a fan of the Yumm Sauce, which they sell at grocery stores around the area. Here's the thing about Cafe Yumm, even though it's food you could easily make at home, there is something incredibly fulfilling about eating here at lunch and having one of their bowls served to you without any of the work. It feels light but it always hits the spot. It's akin to get popcorn at the movie theater - sure you could make it at home for 30 cents. But doesn't it taste better, feel better, to get popcorn right before the movie, popped fresh right before your eyes? Exactly. Yumm bowls are food you could easily make at home but just taste better sometimes because you get to eat it at the restaurant. Also, whenever I eat here for lunch, I feel vaguely proud of myself for choosing the "healthy" option. It's like working out! Only lazier! And fun! And costs a few bucks. This is by far one of the easiest places to grab lunch during the week downtown. The lines might get long but they move very quickly. There's always tables available. Window seats usually abound. It's a healthy little spring in your step if you're just trying to get out of the office or eat something you won't feel too guilty about.

I eat here a lot and always go with the original bowl. I'm not a huge fan of their other stuff but the shocked skewers are pretty good as well. The special sauce they put on the bowls is good as well. A ton of calories if you're the kind of person who cares about that haha

Not bad, but not great either. Was pretty underwhelmed by my salmon burger and there wasn't an option to go bunless (e.g., with a wrap or lettuce wrap). The Hot N Jazzy bowl was neither hot nor jazzy. Was rather small and my boyfriend had to add spice to it. All in all, spent way too much on a lunch that was just 'meh.'

  • Lance B.

Best bowls in the world, period. The sauce, which is really the thing that makes it what it is, is wonderful. They have Braggs sitting out to add to the bowls, which is brilliant. It's consistent no matter which one I visit, delicious, easy, and just an all around awesome meal. I really think you should go, and get some of the sauce in a take home bottle so you can replicate the taste with made at home bowls...

I have always had great food and great service! They are super fast but most importantly delicious! Thank you Cafe Yumm for being so amazing. P.s I love that you can buy the yumm sauce to take home. Super good on vegies!

Stopped by here on a rainy day for a pleasant surprise! The gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options are aplenty at this cute cafe. Although you get a vibe of an Asian restaurant as you walk in, the menu is a diverse mix of recipes and flavors from around the world. We LOVED the Moroccan chickpea soup, and their bowls are to die for. Walked away with a bottle of their secret sauce (also for sale) - another multi-purpose topping addition to the pantry. We'll go back for lunch for sure!

Uniquely, I have been to the Seattle, beaverton, and this location on morrison, all within about 2 weeks. The first two rocked. (Seattle was perfect. ) today my wife and I stopped in and ordered the veggie burger and some sides. After paying, they told me that there was only one veggie burger left, which obviously became my wife's. After going through the line again to figure out what I wanted I ordered a veggie sandwich and a tofu skewer - and had to pay an extra 2 dollars. I don't usually need something for free, but at this point my family was waiting at the table wondering where I was - maybe just comping me the difference at this point would have been appropriate? The veggie sandwich was thin, filled with dry wilty field greens and julienned carrots. No slices of avocado, and the bread was basic orowheat. The tofu was very dry and underwhelming compared to the skewer in Seattle (which was awesome.) About 6 off duty employees hung at a table and gossiped and sang to music, which was fine but maybe there could be another employee at another register to expedite things? The whole thing was mediocre. Veggie food and service in this town can't be mediocre. There are too many options. - And you just can't run out of veggie burgers. - Mike.

There's no reason to go here. It's mediocre at best and there is better, cheaper options coming from food carts. The staff also seem too depressed to be serving food. Disappointed.

This was literally the place I ate at, at least once a week for the entire time I lived in Portland. The hot and jazzy is the most addictive, healthy, and inexpensive meal on the planet. It's also right across from Nordstrom Rack!

We were wandering around downtown Portland and had hoped to get a bowl of ramen at a nearby place that had unfortunately closed a little early. The service was OK, and the food was decent, but nothing that would make me return on my next trip to Portland. The choices are a little limited, and the portions seem a bit small considering the prices.

  • Daizy S.

Totally inconsistent :( today the rice was crunchy, ordered chicken, didn't get it, veggies are so cold they make the warm rice cold by the time you walk 2 blocks. Today my niece ordered a quesedilla and they gave her straight up stale corn chips. What's up ; (

    (2)
  • Erinne G.

Tasty enough food, but very basic. I expected a larger portion for a $7.25 "large," since it's mostly just rice and beans. I felt like I spent too much for something I could easily make at home. Their yumm sauce is indeed yummy, though. And the service was very fast.

If you want a light meal, something to hold you over and/or watching your salt, I'd recommend Cafe Yumm. It's a step up from PandaExpress, (cleaner taste, not as oily). I had the original yumm bowl. Not heavily seasoned, but found the fresh ingredients gave the food here its flavor. It was just a clean, light meal; was happy with it. This is "I want a little quick somethin' somethin' " spot to me. You can see the kitchen when your ordering; from the kitchen through the dining area all seems clean, kept up well, except for where you place your bowls when finished eating. Only suggestion, wish there was a garbage can underneath the trays you put your empty bowls, (so you didn't have this stack of dirty dishes...maybe I just caught the place when they didn't get a chance to move that, but for such a neat, clean looking spot, that seems out of place).

  • Brittanie M.

I really, really love this place. I always crave these addicting bowls and wish I could justify going here more. However as of late it sure seems the consistency has gone down hill. I often try and place my order over the phone so I can just swing by and pick up my order. The last couple of times it has taken several calls to even reach them. I get that they must be busy but it would be great if I could actually get through to them! Perhaps being understaffed or so busy also explains the food quality. Not to be "nit picky" but the last few bowls I have ordered from them have been so sloppy put together and they don't even fill the bowl. For someone who eats these like crack and licks the spoon clean, I was pretty disappointed when the last bowl I ordered wasn't even 75% filled. I'll never be the one to complain about that in the moment, just seems a little pathetic, but you can bet it left me with a sour taste and a reason to write about it in my review!

I give it four stars just because it is one of the only decent cheap eats near PSU (not counting the food carts). The only problem is that they sometimes don't listen when you place your order, so you might get something slightly different than you asked for (brown rice instead of white, etc). I like the yumm bowls with tofu or tempeh.

I have eaten here once before a while back and they were great about finding something that my kids would like. This time we walked in, no one was at the front, no one greated us and it took a min for the lady to notice we were there and make her way to the front. There she was not helpful and we got the idea that it was not kid friendly so we left. I hope they are able to review their practices on making people feel welcome.

One of the things I was sad about leaving Corvallis (this list is short) was not having the opportunity to have Cafe Yumm in my life. However, after finding one of the three locations (Downtown, PSU, Washington Square) I was definitely excited! The Downtown location is nearby Pioneer, so stop by for a healthy meal rather than devouring the countless calories in the food court. Best bowl: Hot 'n Jazzy bowl, Medium (small is just too little and the large is just too big) - recommend a tad bit extra Yumm Sauce & the DELICIOUS jalapeno salsa. It's great all the bowls are made fresh and the sauces are available for purchase - BTW, their sauces are very versatile from dollops in soups to a dip for your crackers or veggies.

It's called Café Yumm for a reason. Coz it's hella freakin yumm. That's right; it's so good I said hella. I don't use that stupid word - but damn baby, you so good. The menu item that reduced to me to a blathering idiot was the Hot and Jazzy Bowl. It's just simple food that consists of jasmine rice, Yumm sauce, red beans, jalapeno-sesame salsa, some olives, avocado, fresh cilantro and tomatoes. I had them hold the sour crème (on a diet). I added a dash of their special house soy type sauce and a dash of sriracha sauce for some kick. I just had the small bowl but it was chock-full of flavor and it filled me up Goldilocks style. This place is just all kinds of awesome. It tastes hella good, yeah, I said it again. It's diet friendly and healthy and it's cheap. My little bowl of awesomeness was only $4.95. I can not wait to be hungry again.

Cafe Yumm has fresh, clean food that is delicious. They do use some canned foods, ie. olives, etc., but the brown rice and other things are freshly made. Vegetarians, and non-vegetarians, can find consistency and healthy food. The staff are hard working and enjoy working with people, while learning their craft. This is a great place to hang out with your best friend, while on a downtown errand trip. We do it all the time.

Hippy bento. Well, that's what I expected it to be but in truth it's nowhere near as good as bento. It's one of those bowls of rice with healthy crap in it places. The much ballyhoo'd Yumm sauce is like super tangy sour cream, which is okay I guess. I got the medium for IIRC 6 bucks, with $2 more for now available, chicken! (gee, thanks for condescending to provide me with some protein, duuuuuuude). Admittedly I was pretty hungry, but it took me about three minutes to finish the portion and I KNEW I was gonna need a second lunch. Maybe this place is all about that restricted calorie diet that's supposed to help scarecrows live forever. It's not about feeding hungry people with any celerity (maybe they're not eating enough). Places staffed by hippies tend to be run really poorly. When the line is held up by some Beaverton refugees who failed reading you don't ask the line if they'd like samples of anything, you open another damn register! Apologies are weak sauce compared to fixing problems. There's several idle cash registers, why don't'cha throw a cash drawer into one of those bad girls and take some money from me? Anyway, not terrible, but not up my alley. I'll stick to bento joints. Lastly, screw you for putting that stupid exclamation point on your freaking signs! "Cafe Yummi" does not return any hits on Google!

Cafe Yumm is yummy! (I'm sorry, couldn't resist) I'm not a rice bowl, vegetarian kinda guy, but I can't get enough of this place. I lovingly tell my coworkers when heading out to lunch here that I'm going to grab a bowl of shit. Yeah, doesn't sound overly appetizing when put that way; HOWEVER, the rice and beans, tasty sauce, jalapeno salsa, fresh tomatoes, onion, avocado, cilantro, olives and sour cream all in one bite, it's just such a tasty combination! I generally stick with the Hot and Jazzy, for two bucks you can add chicken if the feeling hits you. Cafe Yumm is served fast foodish, which makes picking it up and taking it back to the office a breeze. The restaurant itself feels warm, upscale and fresh. Employees have always been friendly. I really dig this place!

Yeah, it's pretty simple and not very exciting, but it's probably the only brand of "fast food" that won't kill ya. I met my wife when we both lived in LA. She resided in Eugene for several years and would have friends mail her CASES of Yumm Sauce after she moved to Smog City. Thus, I was introduced to the stuff long before moving to Portland. Truthfully, the Yumm bowls you can make at home are pretty much the same as what you can buy at the cafe. That's a good thing. You know it's pretty wholesome when you can duplicate it with your own healthy ingredients. I know some folks gag at Yumm Sauce, but I think it's delicious. You can buy big bottles of it at the cafe, which are impossible to find at stores. (Why?) All in all, you could walk a block in either direction of this place and find stuff to put in your stomach that's WAY worse for you.

Cafe Yumm offers the best in fresh, simple food that tastes amazing. Their Yumm sauce is so delicious that I buy it by the bottle to use at home as well. This is the perfect spot for a quick lunch or an inexpensive dinner. The bowls range in price from $6-$9 so it's very affordable and they have a few beers and wines available as well.

I ordered a small Hot 'n Jazzy Bowl with no sour cream. The food was very good, but Cafe Yumm's sauce was just not on the same level for me as The Whole Bowl's secret Tali sauce (not as big a pop). I definitely appreciated the fresh ingredients and clean, colorful presentation Cafe Yumm! brought here. I also liked the different texture contrasts (the nutty, floral rice; the creamy avocado, the fresh cilantro, the briny black olives, etc.). I think I'll also get brown rice next time (forgot to do that this time around). Cafe Yumm! says this bowl is spicy, but I disagree. I detected no spice here. Perhaps my taste buds are just so used to extremely spicy foods by now, but this was not even a 1 on my 1-10 scale. I tossed some sriracha on my food just to get some zip to the meal. The decor is bright and lively, thanks to a lot of orange paint and glass windows (to allow natural light to penetrate the interior). The cashier was extremely friendly and even asked me how my morning was (trust me, I don't get that from 99 percent of the people that take my order). Overall, a very positive experience here.

This place has gone down hill quickly. Was a big fan for awhile, going once a week. I stopped by today and my food was bland and prepared incorrectly. Could barely taste the delicious Yumm sauce because of the amount of mysterious water my rice and beans were floating in. Don't bother eating here.

Like all Yumm's the food is good and the different sauces & soups make the bowls taste a lot better then a lot of typical vegan bowl places. I've had totally different experiences with service here, most of them poor. It seems to depend on who's working and whether it's dine-in or carry-out. The staff are all friendly, but don't seem to be paying attention. Usually the food just takes forever to get prepared, but on occasion it gets delivered to the wrong tables or they "forget" about a to-go order until you ask about it. Then again, the other day I ordered and went outside to check on my dog. My order (the right one too) was about 30 seconds behind & one of the staff carried it out to me at the curb. I'll keep going back because of the variety, but except for the one time of at-the-curb service, the one-man cart at Sonny Bowl has these guys beat on speed & service.

Great selection and very customizable. I was happy with it for a lunch.

Here in Portland for a conference and found this place. What a gem. Healthy food that even my husband loved. Tried the Original Bowl and the BBQ Tofu skewer. Both delish!

I have been a fan of Cafe Yumm since I first discovered it in 2001 down in Eugene. I work in downtown Portland so I was very excited when I saw they were opening up a location within walking distance of my office! I have been to this location a few times and I have never had problem with service, wait time, or having anything wrong with my order. I have noticed a lot of reviewers comparing Cafe Yumm to The Whole Bowl so I will say that before Cafe Yumm expanded to Portland, I used The Whole Bowl's downtown cart to get my fix of rice + beans + sauce and I really enjoy that place too! It is less expensive, but I find the wait time to be too much to bear sometimes during the lunch hour since there is only one person working the cart (and she's a sweetheart!). Plus if the weather is inclement, you have nowhere to sit without getting drenched. Other than that, the only real difference is the sauce, and I enjoy both! Cafe Yumm's sauce is more tangy and fresh tasting to me, while The Whole Bowl's sauce is garlicky and earthy tasting. I still go to both, depending on what I'm in the mood for.

I liked this a lot! I also like that you don't have to get it vegetarian if you don't want to; you can add chicken now (which I did). I had their original yumm bowl. I did not know you could make brown rice and beans taste so good. Next time I am in the area I am going to buy some of their yumm sauce so I can make yumm bowls at home. Healthy, filling, and delicious!

I LOVE Cafe Yumm. Not sure why this location gets such low ratings. There was a short line when I walked in, just before noon, and as the line increased, they added cashiers, just as they should. My order was ready in less time than it took to eat five potato chips. The Hot and Jazzy is crazy good. Give it a shot.

I'll jump in the renaming bandwagon: So I went to Cafe Yuck and had an absolutely horrible experience. My friend and I ordered two large bowls ($6.95 each) that sounded tasty enough. What came was a laughable portion I would barely consider a side. I was tempted to count the number of beans on my plate, which I could have easily done with my fingers and toes. Whatever, I was hungry so I took a bite. I would be generous if I called it 'lukewarm'. This stuff was straight up room temperature and totally nasty. My friend took a bite and said, "I can't eat this." I'm not one to waste $14 worth of food so after two bites each I got a box to take it home and try to doctor it up with flavor. Our two bowls together in the box looked like what I would expect $7 worth of food to look like. I thought about complaining to the manager but after two negative experiences with him, (yes, I know you're busy but customer service is part of the job if you want to keep it), I decided it wasn't worth my time and we left in search of lunch 2.0. I tried to eat the food again later that day after I warmed it and doctored it a bit and it was absolutely inedible, I eventually threw most of it out. I'd much rather take my money to The Whole Bowl or Sonny Bowl or Native Bowl or any of the other places in town offering the same concept but with actually edible food, affordable prices and bigger portions. Never again, Cafe Yuck, never again.

Cafe Yumm is awesome! This place offers a very tasty / healthy alternative to some of their competitors. Highly recommend the Original Bowl, Tofu Skewers and the Nori Wraps! So glad to see a new one open downtown and able to walk there from work. I have been a fan for over a year now at the Beaverton location.

Nice change from cart food. Clean and delicious. Out of all the "bowls" down town its the best.

I had a great lunch here! I got the spicy bowl with brown rice instead of white, and it was delicious. It had brown rice, red beans, their signature sauce, olives, cheese, avocados, a spicy chutney of some sort, and a few other things. It was a perfect, healthy lunch option - I'm glad they are so close to my office!

I've gone into Cafe Yumm! several times since the location near me opened, and always ended up turning back after having a look at the options. Finally gave it a try today though! It ah... Exceeded my expectations for disappointment considerably. At least someone else was buying so I didn't waste my own money on this.

After eating here, I can say that I had a good experience. The food came after ordering after a couple of minutes of ordering. It was not loud like most restaurants. I find this to be a healthy alternative to fast food restaurants if you're looking for a quick bite.

PDX location -- despite other reviews I loved this place! I travel a lot, there are rarely fresh and healthy options available in any airport. Found this place on accident -- breakfast tacos served ALL DAY! I had the Rancheros (breakfast tacos) with tofu, no cheese. Perfect for a pre-flight meal, not too heavy and well seasoned. Even if I'm not in this terminal next time, I'll make the trek!

I usually like this place. I usually order the medium original yum bowl and it's always pretty good. today I ordered the the medium original yum bowl and the tofu skewer. as I was sitting down, I overheard a cook saying "I guess she's getting the last skewer of the day." which implied they're pre-made and then just sit out all day. when I got it, it was cold and dry, which makes me believe it wasn't fresh at all. it was really hard and difficult to chew and didn't have much flavor- it was pretty inedible actually. the yum bowl wasn't that good either, which was kind of a surprise. the staff are always super nice, but the tables are always really dirty. this is a good place if you need something healthy pretty quick and for pretty cheap, but don't expect too much.

I love Cafe Yumm! Im from NYC and wish they would open up shop on the east coast! Each time i am in PDX I have to stop here for the Hot and Jazzy bowl. Its a bit spicy , but I still add sriracha on top of it.! They have a large vegetarian and vegan menu! Soups are also great.

Cafe Yumm is so delicious! I ordered the large edamame bowl (vegan style) and it's delicious. The flavors of all of the ingredients are so tasty. I recommend this place for people who want a tasty meal but don't want to be stuffed. Their portions are smaller (because of the freshness of the ingredients) so don't plan on having leftovers, especially if you order the small or medium. I will definitely be visiting Cafe Yumm again while I'm in town on business.

I usually love Cafe Yumm but was very disappointed with the new downtown location. On 2 occasions they managed to mess up my orders. First time, they gave me the wrong tofu. This time (which is the last time I will go to this location), they gave me the wrong tofu, wrong rice and drenched my bowl in Yumm Sauce. I had to throw my dinner away it was so awful. The employees don't seem to pay attention and just lacked customer service "sense". I won't be going back to this location again. Still trying to get the taste out of my mouth of the disaster bowl I had this evening- yuck! Should have been called Yuck Bowl... You are better off going to a food cart around the corner.

The service is really good at this location. It's a seasoned crew used to the busy lunch crowd. I wish the soups would change more often and had less salt, but that's my only complaint (and it's more of a personal taste issue). This is a good way to get a fast, healthy lunch.

Very mediocre. The Yumm sauce was whatever and the prices were not that great. I ordered the "Original" and there was nothing original about it...Just a bunch of salty rice in a bowl with avocado, tomato and beans. Meh. Next time in in a pinch for lunch I'll walk to one of the better, cheaper food carts up or down a few blocks.

So I first tried this with my mom and my sister a few days ago. We thought it looked good by the description of the menu but we turned out to be extremely wrong. It's like a terrible knock-of chipotle. Their yumm sauce tastes like mayonnaise mixed with crap. I was nauseous after eating it. Their prices are ridiculous for the amount of food they give you. And on top of that... The food they serve you is cold and the water is warm.

I just read JWD's review, and while it's true that every single employee who works here is a complete idiot, they're not hippies-- just unhelpful knuckleheads, wearing unwavering, blissfully blank expressions. The food isn't really "hippie" either (and I'm assuming I should interpret that as... organic? earth-friendly? healthful?) because I'm pretty sure they get their produce from WinCo. I love the sauce though. I usually get the sauce and go home and make my own bowls for dinner, but sometimes I just need me some rice and beans (with yumm sauce) for lunch. (P.S. pssst, JWD: Rice + Beans = protein! you didn't need to pay extra.)

Cafe meh. $4.95 for what amounted to a side order of rice and beans that tasted like it came from a can. I coulda had a bitchin' bowl of soup from Flying Elephant's with a big chunk of baguette for $4.50. Never again.

This review if for Cafe Yumm in Portland International Airport. Really bad food, not fresh at all, tasteless and stale. The lady in the register was really nice and good in selling the product but when the food arrived it looked really bad and tasted even worse. (Posting a picture as well).

This was one of my regular spots when I worked in Portland in 2013. I was back for RNR Portland in 2015, so my friend and I came in for a healthy lunch. I got my usual... medium original Yumm bowl with baked tofu. Apparently the tofu is marinated and then baked in a convection oven which gives it this awesome texture. Lots of options to customize and make dishes vegetarian, vegan or gluten free. Happy to get my fix!

Yummy, healthy and on the cheaper side! Perfect for lunch when you want something healthier than a sandwich, and lighter than say...a panda bowl. This is the perfect spot. Staff are always friendly. Smart Park is there for easy access! No parking validation though. Great spot!

Came on a recommendation of a friend, but what a disappointment! Ordered a salmon burger, and after 20 minutes, it came out with a raw center. Got a cold chocolate chip cookie as an apology for the delay while I waited for another burger. After 10 more minutes waiting, I got a refund and left. Others in my group felt the food was so - so at best. Certainly doesn't live up to the hype.

Has really gotten much worse since manager they had left, mixed up orders, slow, rude service. Too bad, it is really convenient for my work. Yesteday went and they forgot to put cheese on my bowl (6 ingredients, can't be that hard), the time before I ordered ahead and still took forever and the girl was so snotty. Really getting grungy there too, have to clean your own table.

Cafe Blandd. Food was bland. Like they opened a can and poured it in the bowl. The Yumm sauce is awful. The cashiers are clueless and they falsely advertise that they sell wine/beer. I do not trust this chain and I will not return.

I was on a hunt for food after a morning of shopping and pounding the pavement in DT Portland. On a recommendation I hit up Cafe Yumm for some healthy eats that wouldn't slow me down.... I ordered the Chilean Zucchini bowl with brown rice, avocado, tofu and salsa. Yumm is right! Add some siracha and you're totally winning! I adore that their food options are healthy and I didnt feel like such a hog after. The service was quick and friendly, i was in and out and back shopping in no time. Based off this one meal, I'd definitely be back.

The low down. If your a Hippie or progressive who has decent tastebuds that have not been poisoned by the FDA's idea of good food then this place is a four star easy. However if you have been eating Co*tco, S*feway, Fr*d meyer types your whole life then keep walking. Good wholesome food that kicks a**!

I saw this place when it was under construction and had no great desire to ever try it but I'm glad I did. The thing people need to realize about it is that it is what it is: A convenient place to get some pretty ok organic food & yes, scarecrows who eat less really do live longer. The portion sizes are actually the way we're supposed to eat & the price matches it. I can appreciate that. CONS: Looks & feels like a fast food joint You have to order at the counter They expect you to tip them PROS: Fast Convenient Organic Correct portion size Probably good for dieters Affordable

I really really really like this place. I had the edamame bowl and it was delicious. I think about it at least once a day and wish I lived closer, I would definately be a regular at this place. Price is fair, food is fresh and that sauce is just amazing. I will return the next time I am in Portland.

I am a big fan of this place. HOWEVER, the last few times I've been, I order a medium 'to go' and get home to find the bowl barely 75% full. I think quality control has gone way down. I'm not sure why but I read a review that the manager had left. That guy was great and I'm sorry to hear he has left. That's probably the reason for the diminished quality.

Different and delicious. Love my Yumm bowl with chicken and extra avocado. I even buy the Yumm sauce, so that I can make up my own Yumm bowls at home. Fast prep, 3 great locations downtown.

Asian Fusion with a fresh clean taste. All of the veggies were very fresh. I had the Chicken Yumm Bento Box with the chicken skewer. The chicken was moist and favorful. The "slaw" that it came with had a nice balance of tangy and crispness.
