I recently enjoyed a tasty meal at BH. As I'm gluten-free these days, I was happy to hear that the entire restaurant is gf (well, except the bottled beer), and even better that they cater to numerous other dietary/allergy restrictions. They listed several on the menu that I'm aware of, such as paleo, SCD, nightshades -- and several more I never heard of. Wow! On the menu is a rib eye steak that is completely grass-fed/raised, something that seems to be pretty hard to find in Portland, surprisingly, and what I enjoyed during my visit. The meat is also sourced locally, as is probably everything else on the menu. They seem to list many/all of the farms and suppliers they use right on their menu. Looks like there are a ton of other raving reviews for BH here on Yelp, so I'll taper off here instead of duplicating all the good things already said. I shall return to BH before long.

Perfect place to take people with food allergies because they are super careful. My mom has a gluten and dairy allergy so when I first read the reviews I knew this would be a great place to bring her. She completely fell in love with this place and I'm sure I'll be coming here every time she visits. BASKET OF SOURDOUGH BAGUETTE ($5) 5/5 : You must get this! Warmed bread from New Cascadia Bakery served with garlic butter or garlic oil. My mom was so happy to see this since it's been far too long since she's been able to get gluten-free bread served at a restaurant. The bread was delicious too and I could hardly tell it was gluten free because it was soft and fluffy. DRY ROASTED KALE ($6/9) 5/5 : I love kale and and this dish was incredible with crispy kale served with a great tangy dressing of 18 year old balsamic vineagar, garlic oil, lemon juice, carmelized red onions, and hazelnuts. GOLDEN & RED BEETS SALAD ($7/10) 5/5 : Beets are one of my other favorite vegetables so I had to order this. It was another yummy salad with sweet beets served with greens, hazelnuts and should have been 120 day aged goat cheese but I had it swapped. GRILLED SWEET POTATOES ($7) 5/5 : Extremely delicious and you must order it. The sweet potatoes are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with the delicious rich flavor of bacon and onions. The bits of crispy bacon were like hidden treasure I kept digging for. HUNGARIAN PORK GOULASH PASTA ($13/20) 4/5 : Gluten free pasta that was quite chewy and didn't have a strong rice flavor which is a problem for many gluten free pastas. Sauce was nice and dish also had homegrown sauerkrout and sweet hot peppers. LAMB PASTA SPECIAL (?) : I didn't try this dish because I don't like lamb but my parents said it was very good. RIB-EYE STEAK ($30) 3/5 : I would skip this dish. We ordered it cooked medium but it was closer to medium well and flavor wasn't very special. It had a pepper cream sauce with grilled potatoes and roasted veggies on the side.

Having heard his place was lovely for the gluten-free people of the world, we brought our friends here last Friday and really enjoyed it. It wasn't just because our server was the person who personally grew the berries in our preserves...the food was great, the environment comfortably nice but not stuffy, and Everyone felt like neighbors. The highlight of the whole meal was, for me, warm crusty GF baguette with garlic butter...a treat I've missed for years. The entree took just a little bit longer than we wanted, but that's okay. I was happy about the prices, and appreciated their attention to ensuring we could watch our wallets by ordering small or large sizes of most dishes. On the way out, we learned of lemon curd made with duck eggs. We'll be back for that soon. Keep up the good work gals and guys!

I love this place. I have only been a few times, but each time has been lovely. The staff is wonderful, they are so sweet and they clearly care about the food they are serving. The food is all gluten free, and they will cater to any diet that they can. The food is divine! There are not a lot of options, and I would like to see more variety on the menu, but the few items they do have are well executed. If you are a meat eater, try the braised rabbit alfredo. Amazing. Ambiance is perfect for either a casual night dining or a romantic date. Dress up or dress down. I love those types of places.

Depressing. Dingy. Disorganized. The lunch I had in a party of four was passable. Not great, but edible, I think they try, but their execution lacks. Lunch for a party of 4 cost us $75 less tip( and I do always tip, but wondered why this time) for our meals, sans desert but coffee and a appetizer plate of crostini which really didn't set my heart on fire. But had I not made huge effort to get my party there to set down for lunch, I would have left on arrival. The reason for our gathering was personal, but I see little reason to return. nowhere close to accessible for elders or ADA concerns.

Awesome spot. Can't believe it took me so long to finally try it! My boyfriend and I were in the neighborhood, so we decided to try out Brooklyn House after I had heard good things from many a GF friend. We weren't sure it would work for us, since he is on an ultra low-carb diet, but we were pleasantly surprised! When we sheepishly admitted this to the server she was positive and helpful. Steak and a pile of greens is always the answer. :-) I got the veggie pasta Alfredo with a side of the sausage, which was this amazing salty delicious treat. The pasta was maybe a wee over cooked, but not enough to make me give fewer than 5 stars here. Lots of dessert options, including SCD-friendly, which we will for sure have to try next time. Great atmosphere. Very busy on a Saturday night. We were lucky to get a seat. Reservations recommended!!

I cannot say enough good things about this place. It is absolutely adorable for starters. Nestled in a house, complete with quirks and a historical, lived in feel, you almost forget where you are upon entering. We felt right at home, and I was able to get feedback from five others who dined with me on this most recent visit. It was a shared sense of love and comfort that we all had for the place itself, the service, and our food. Things that will bring ME back to Brooklyn House: * Their dedication to over the top accommodations for any & all dietary restrictions & preferences * A menu that includes portion size options (how novel - actually considering that someone may be starving, or not terribly hungry). It is so nice to have a choice. * Kind and helpful service. The folks truly care about what they are doing, and are sincerely customer focused. This goes a long way with me, and it was much appreciated. * The menu itself. That is obviously something very personal, and to each his own. But I was extremely happy with the offerings, as were my fellow diners. In fact, it is difficult to decide when everything sounds so delicious. * Relaxed atmosphere that just felt like home to me. * Bread baskets .......yes I said bread baskets. Including BREAD THAT I CAN HAVE. (100% gluten free) * This last bullet point is both essential and somehow irrelevant to how a restaurant should be reviewed. But let's just say that the restaurant is safe for those with food allergies. The food was outstanding, and everyone at our table was beyond happy with their meals. But oh, yeah, the kitchen just happens to not use any gluten in their dishes. With places like this, it almost hurts them to be titled as a gluten-free establishment. It's a great restaurant, that just happens to be gluten-free. Because while that piece of it is what will ensure some people (like those with Celiac Disease) can eat there - it shouldn't outshine the fact that Brooklyn House is simply great on it's own - gluten or not. They don't hype the fact, and most of the people around us had no idea they were eating gluten free. This visit we started with some lavender lemonade, some bread, and I believe someone ordered some Braised Red Cabbage. Our table included Pork Confit, Grilled Sweet Potatoes with bacon & onions, Braised Rabbit Alfredo, Hungarian Pork Goulash, and the Edelweiss Sausage entree. There was plenty of food, and everyone was very happy with their choices. My own personal favorite part of the menu states the following: "We will happily omit whatever foods you may need, whether you have allergies, preferences or both. We can prepare meals that are gluten-, soy-, egg-, nightshade-, allium- & peanut-free as well as paleo, SCD-legal, vegan, or anything else you need - just let us know"

This restaurant pretty much sums up everything that I would want in a Portland restaurant experience. It feels like one of those singular treasures you stumble up and then keep as a secret. The prices were quite reasonable. I liked all of the small plates that were available. What I really appreciated is that they went out of their way to cook your food corresponding to any particular dietary needs or restrictions that you might have and went out of their way to make sure they understood what those might be. The chef even came out of the kitchen occasionally to take a table or two. The thing that was especially enjoyable to me was the atmosphere. I felt like someone was making me homemade food and serving me in their living room. The atmosphere reminded me of some of the little family restaurants that I experienced in Germany and Italy growing up there as a kid. I can't wait to come back in the summer and have a beer on the patio outside.

We really wanted to like this place as it came highly recommended. It did not live up to expectations. The service was good, and the drinks were ok (albeit slightly $$) the food was bland and the ambiance..well its smells like a basement in the restaurant. Maybe they are going for "charm" but the musty smells do no justice. We ordered 2x Sausage & Cabbage, 1 pork chop, 1 lamb. The presentation made the meal feel unappetizing from the start. All the plates looked like food was thrown on haphazardly. Our friend bit into her sweet potatoes only to find one was still frozen! The waitress reeked of weed. We can certainly appreciate that everything is sourced locally but not when a premium is charged for less than mediocre food.Sad to say it, but there are much better options with better prices. We won't be back.

Food is hit and miss, which is disappointing considering the prices. The servers can be described as "grubby granola". They were out of both dinner specials at 5:30pm on a Sunday. Service is sloooooowwww and casual even for Portland. Give it a miss until these people decide to run a restaurant rather than flirt with the idea of running one.

Impromptu Date Night due to traffic. Yummy Fall meal - Pork Tenderloin with a brandy, onion & apple sauce, served with red curry squash & dry roasted kale salad with an 18yr aged balsamic vinaigrette. Amazing. My VIP (Vanilla Infused Porter) had a sweet heart in it when I was near done that felt like it was just put there for our romance. The Cashew Cream cake on a crushed fig & cashew crust was not too sweet & pretty to boot. So good. All of it. I even ordered some of the kale salad to go, THAT good.

I hesitate to write this. This review is only for ambiance because we decided to leave before we tried the food. I was excited to try Brooklyn House. I'm from out of town and I really was jazzed to try it, especially based on yelp reviews and the fact that it is gluten free! When we walked in, the restaurant was so drab and unwelcoming. The decor left a lot to be desired. I'm fairly low maintenance but to be honest, it appeared borderline dirty once I sat at the table and saw the stained tablecloth. I don't mind a hole in the wall, but usually not at this price point. I wasn't looking for chandeliers, but I just felt very hard pressed to relax. It was kind of... depressing. There was only one other table, but after we sat down and were presented with menus, we sat for a few minutes without anyone offering water or another beverage or visiting at all. The menu confused us. I had been told the whole restaurant was gluten free, but the menu said they could modify dishes to accommodate. Not quite the same as what I was anticipating. We were sort of wavering. I always choose the restaurant when we travel and my friends are usually impressed. But this time after a few minutes, we just decided to bail rather than take a big chance and risk disappointment. The food may be excellent here, but the ambiance was so discouraging, we just didn't get that far. Sorry :( just wanted to give the restaurant some constructive feedback. I wouldn't discourage you from going, but just know the ambiance may not live up to the food.

Brooklyn House Restaurant is a hidden treasure! From the commitment they offer to our community to the service to the absolutely amazing food, we can't wait to go back! My Sweetie and I were driving around, trying to find a restaurant to go to, after realizing that our usual standby, Papa Haydn was too busy. Most places on a Friday night are a bit overwhelming with crowds or the food isn't great, or the parking is difficult. We wanted something easy, something that had comfort food -- preferably gluten-free options -- in a cozy atmosphere with great service. We checked Yelp. You can always count on Yelp. Wow, did we find everything and more at Brooklyn House Restaurant!!! We were greeted enthusiastically by the owners, Erica and Lisa, seated immediately, and treated like old friends. The menu, wow, the menu is awesome and it incorporates a wide variety of food sourced from very local farmers, coffee roasters, meat smokers, etc, and a wide variety of price options. Pastas, meats, veggies, etc. Vegan, vegetarian, meat-lovers, you name it, you can find it! They have an incredible non-alcoholic (and, I assume, alcoholic full bar) menu. I had an incredible fresh hot apple cider with a slice of orange, and my Sweetie had Foxfire peppermint tea: delightful! What I love is how Brooklyn House Restaurant walks the talk about the ethics of eating, "local with few exceptions," and "We understand that everyone does better when everyone does better." And, last but not least, "...we want every single guest to feel completely nourished here. So tell us EXACTLY what you want for dinner... it's no problem; it's our pleasure!" How's that for service? And, it's matched by action. We were asked whether we were going to the show at the Aladdin, and what I have to say is that Brooklyn House Restaurant's food IS the show! My Sweetie had the leg of chicken, which was huge! And, included beautiful purple potatoes, mashed. Also, an herbed butter to go with them. It was so huge she had to take part of it home. Her entree and mine came with beautiful flowers from their garden. I had the Edelweiss German sausage with sauerkraut and purple cabbage. Our server suggested I get the smaller version because the larger one was so huge. So nice to have her honesty, and she was right! It was the perfect amount of food, and left room for dessert. So many options! After hearing that every dessert, and in fact, EVERY ENTREE at Brooklyn House Restaurant is gluten-free, we opted for the apple-ish bread pudding with caramel sauce and whipped cream. WOW!!! Gluten-free bread pudding that didn't taste gluten-free!!! We do gluten-free by choice and also sometimes eat regular breads. So, when I tell you it was the same as regular bread, will you believe me? We can't wait to come back and try the warmed sourdough bread with butter (or olive oil) and the spaghetti and meatballs. And, we're definitely coming back to be welcomed in, this is comfort food at its best, people, because it comes with the true warmth of connection, the knowledge of supporting our farmers and community, and with great, great food!

Found Brooklyn House Restaurant while I was visiting Portland. My friend and I were looking for a place to have a drink and some food. I feel way behind the times but this was the first restaurant that I've been to that was really farm to table. I loved the garnishes on my meal, all edible. I didn't realize the purple basil was just that. I love basil. I had the Salmon Alfredo, paired with the German Riesling, it was delicious. We had the black/blue berry cobbler for dessert. YUMMY!! It was a delightful, educational experience. My friend and I were very fortunate to happen upon this place. I look forward to visiting again.

Pretty dang good. Fresh locally farmed foods. Sweet and knowledgeable owner, who is heavily involved in her restaurant. The waitress was amazing too and they were super helpful in aiding my transition back to meat eating. Thumbs up ladies :)

My partner and I LOVE this place. We're fairly regular patrons and make this our spot for special occasions as well. It has so much character and heart, and that love is evident in the consistently delicious and nourishing food that comes out of their unpretentious, humble kitchen. They do such a great job of welcoming different dietary needs, with enthusiasm (for this reason, "accommodating" doesn't seem like the right word). My partner, who has a very severe case of Celiac Disease, can eat here without worrying, which, unfortunately, is so rare to find. And yet, that's only one of many reasons why this restaurant is so special to us. When we walk into the door, we feel immediately at home. The friendly staff, casual yet intimate ambience, and amazing food always leave us feeling wonderfully satiated, in more ways than one. Thanks, Brooklyn House!

They were very accommodating to a vegan request. The un-Alfredo sauce was excellent. The lentils and veggies in butter were delicious. A good home-cooked meal in a homey atmosphere. Great service. Food was a little slow, so don't be in a hurry. This is not fast food. You get what you wait for. Worth the wait! We walked over when it was too late to cook at home. The menu looked agreeable to a vegan and a gluten-free meat eater. The inside of an old house in the Brooklyn neighborhood has been transformed into a cozy restaurant.

We dined at Brooklyn House last night and it was one of the nicest experiences we've had eating out in a very long time. The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming. The food was a perfect balance of comfort and elegance. Our family has a number of food sensitivities and sifting through menus can be a struggle when dining out. At Brooklyn House we didn't have to struggle at all. The basic menu is set up so that you can't go wrong. Everything is GF and basically paleo. If you've gotta kick it up a notch for autoimmune, they are 100% accommodating and there is no worry that it will be weird or wrong. If you don't have food sensitivities you will still love it!! You'd never know. The carefully chosen ingredients and skillful prep are that good. Also, there is a strong planet and community commitment here that is evident but not preachy. Good people. Good food. Great experience!

My husband picked The Brooklyn House when searching for a gluten free friendly place to take me on a date. He called to make a reservation and they asked if there were any special dietary considerations, he informed them his wife was currently doing AIP. They knew exactly what that was, and even remembered when we showed up for dinner. They did not disappoint! Lisa, our waitress, was so knowledgeable and so considerate. My meal was amazing and the low key feeling of the place was perfect. Real food from local farmers, and the willingness (and knowledge!) to accommodate vegan to paleo and everything in between. We will be going back again and again.

Outstanding, every time. Fantastic ambiance, vrry comfortable and inviting. Its my go-to place for bringing foodies when i have folks visiting town. If you are looking for gluten free dining, you have any food allergies or you just like good fresh food this is the place for you. This establishment is ran by an amazing woman making this Farm to table sweetness work. You feel like you are at your friends house and your getting treated real nice. They are so great and accommodating. The food is fresh and delicious! The beet salad is superb as well as their veggie entrees and rabbit stew! Deserts are amazing! They have a few quirks to work out, but don't we all. This is a great place to have a long languid dinner with friends and family. Can fit groups up 6-8 people or maybe more if you asked and kids are welcome. It's a little hard to find the place, but street parking is easy to find. Eat here soon.

My husband, son and nephew went to have a great outing in Portland at what was supposed to be a great restaurant. When we arrived at noon the place looked dark and dingy. We asked if we could sit at the largest table, a small 6 top among tiny 4 tops, as all of my lunch mates are 6 feet plus( nephew is 6'7") The matri'd informed us we could not sit at that table because she was about to fold laundry on the table unless we wanted to " eat around the folded linens?" We could not believe what we were hearing. Also, the tableclothes on the tables were stained and dirty. We were outraged by the comments of the maitr'd and so we left.

Visited recently and enjoyed my food so much! The tuna salad was so good. My hubby got the steak... I definitely could have had a steak along with my tuna salad. The sweet potatoes and bread were great appetizers. Also, the desserts all looked so good... I really wanted 1 of each!

I am allergic to gluten and dairy. The entire menu it gluten free and there are a few dairy free options. First of all, how cool is it to get a gluten free baguette at a restaurant? Yeah, I know it's from New Cascadia and I can buy it cheaper and bring it home. But I got to eat out of a bread basket, in a restaurant. Everyone in my family loves this place including my 9 year old step daughter. She has a pretty good palette for a 9 year old but still dislikes typical kid stuff like fish. I think the prices are perfect for what you get.

You walk into what looks like someone's old cramped house. It's not a very nice place for the price. Stained table clothes, mason jar glasses, I don't expect to pay this much for that. It is pretty dreary. Understaffed so the service, although nice, was poor. It took a very long time between everything - order, drinks, bread, meal. We ordered the large bread, which is two small loaves, but still only got one thing of hard garlic butter. Of course we had to ask, and wait, for more. It was burnt on the bottom and very hard. We ordered the Edelweiss sausage, but within 30 seconds saw the menu board (which was small and the server didn't even mention the special). It was a better sounding sausage dish and was even $1 cheaper, so we asked to change it and she said yes. So after a long wait we get our food. It was NOT the special. She set it down and walked away so quickly that we didn't have time to say anything at first. Then we called her over and asked and she said she forgot to put it in and now they're out of it. Maybe they were then, but not when we ordered it. Not to mention that we weren't even told and of course now I'm also paying slightly more to get what I didn't want. Terrific. Yet she didn't erase the "special" off the board. So it was meh sausage with bland cabbage, bland sauerkraut, and potatoes. We also got the pork goulash which was also flavorless with very little pork. Probably a good thing since it was so dry anyway. Salt and pepper couldn't rescue this food. I found the goulash to have a bit too much back hint of spice to it too. So basically hot with no flavor. My friend thought it tasted like canned tomatoes anyway. Very unimpressed. It was Wednesday, which is their first night of the week and I'd like to point out that they had already run out of goulash while we there as well as the parmesan cheese that goes on 2 of their other dishes. Not a good sign. I had higher expectations for the money and was definitely disappointed.

We found this lovely place by simply searching "restaurant" on Yelp. Very luckily, this one came up near the top! We went in the afternoon on a Thursday, and were the only customers. We were graciously welcomed by the owner and had a nice window seat. We spent a pleasant 5 minutes talking with the owner about the details of all the interesting menu items. She was super helpful and it was clear how much thought and care went into every single ingredient on the menu. It was a tough choice, but I got the broccoli and greens Alfredo dish, and my husband got the giant mixed greens salad. Everything was delicious, and the presentation was beautiful. We even had a pretty flower and mint leaf on top of our iced teas. This place is a safe haven for anyone who is particular about what they eat. You will be met with respect, care, and delicious food that suits your needs and tastes. We look forward to returning and trying other menu items.

This place is as genuine and delicious as they come. My dad came into town for an evening and we didn't feel like experimenting with a new cuisine that evening. Something comforting, familiar, but still high quality was what we were seeking. Based on the reviews here, we chose the Brooklyn House and were more than pleased. The menu is superb-- filled with rich and hearty meals as well as satisfying small plates. The attention to detail regarding the ingredients (many if not most is locally sourced) was wonderful. We even spoke with the chef/owner/all of the above (?) and she told us about their farmer's sudden over-abundance of rabbits, which was why there were a couple more dishes with rabbit than usual. My dad had a rabbit pasta dish and it was phenomenal. Husband had lamb, I had pork, and everything was cooked to perfection. We also split a fruit and cheese board as an appetizer and loved it all. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. You'll see upon arrival that it literally is a house converted into a restaurant. However it's intimate, with nooks and corners and great places in which to dine, toast, and enjoy the experience and your company. I wouldn't recommend it for very large parties, based upon what we saw of the interior. A note on the beer-- it's all in bottles and not on draft. Not a big deal in our opinions, but it might be to some? They have a huge selection of beer, wine, and house cocktails. You can't go wrong with any of your choices. The service was attentive, friendly, honest, and like I said previously, genuine. We all walked away with smiles on our faces and happy stomachs. We've already recommended this place to many. Go, go! You won't regret it.

We love this place. We loved it as the Berlin Inn, and now Lisa, Erica, and crew carry on the tradition of fantastic, attentive service, real, sustainable, local food, and delicious solutions to every kind of dietary choice or limitation. I look forward to every visit. We come at least for every holiday dinner.

I previously rated this restaurant poorly. I have not had the opportunity to go back and give it a second chance, but wanted to update my review based on the way they've handled the issue -- I'm landing on 3 stars (averaging the 1 star initial review + the 5 star customer service response). I have been impressed with their concern and effort to resolve my discontent. It seems like they're working hard to get this new business going smoothly. You can see the early part of our conversation below; we've also been in touch since then in private. I'm from out of town, so I can't go back for a redo, but if I could, I would. From other pictures and reviews, it seems like they have a lot of potential and that my experience was a result of an off night/dish, which they recognized and are actively changing. If my friends go again in the future, I'll gladly write an updated and detailed review of their findings and their food :) Good luck guys/girls!

Okay I will admit I made reservations at the Brooklyn House thinking it was the Berlin Inn that I had dined at before. German food and fondue. I mean it's the same building and I did very little research on the googles... To be honest I did no research. Not a lick. Did you know the Berlin Inn closed? I for one did not! No one told me... Jerks... Upon entering the hostess/waitress informed us that they were not the Berlin Inn but were in fact a completely different restaurant... I was perplexed. Confused as it were. Again I did very little research... She let us know they would not be offended if we cancelled our reservations and left. "People do that all the time because we are NOT the Berlin Inn." We decided to stay and give it a whirl. What a whirl it was. A simple place with simple elegance. Sure the table cloth was stained with olive oil and the old building had a little musky smell. But wow. It is kind of like visiting your quirky cousin's house with the 3 dogs and a ripped screen door and she makes you a next level dish and isn't going to be offended if you don't dig it because she knows that it's amazing. I ordered the rabbit Alfredo. It would have been literally just like Mama used to make if Mama every had the b*llsack to cook rabbit Alfredo. The rabbit was sweet, creamy, and succulent and any gamey flavor was incorporated into the dish. The braised purple cabbage pork belly was the right balance of sour and savory. The goulash was great but I would not classify it as a traditional goulash. I found the use of fresh oregano interesting. The house cocktails were made with methodical effort. Nothing seemed rushed. Overall an old world styling of crafted comfort food. Sure I miss the Berlin Inn fondue but that cabbage did not suck!!!! Seems like this place is a great secret that everyone should know about but you just don't want to share the secret with just any old Tom, Dick, or Harry. No offense to any old guys named Tom, Dick, or Harry intended.

I am sad to report that, according to my sources, there was a fire at the Brooklyn House a few days ago. Call before visiting!

Fantastic Our hostess Verandah was what made our meal amazing. She is clearly passionate about the food and equally about ensuring our enjoyment. Just order what she suggests and you cannot go wrong...!

Farm to table AND gluten free! The food here is so delicious-- the ultimate comfort food. My friends without dietary restrictions look forward to eating here as much as I do! The owners are passionate about what they do and they make it a special place to come. If you don't like the dining room ambience, I recommend sitting up at the bar-- we always do so we can chat with the owners and cooks. Must eats: baguette w garlic, beet salad, their rotating Alfredo. The rabbit is superb.

SIBO is a sentence to any food lover. It means you eat every made from your kitchen for several months. I saw this sort of defeat in my wife's face as we were about to prepare one more limited diet dinner. I took to yelp. I searched 'sibo' and this little place popped up. I was in disbelief. I have never even heard of sibo until a few weeks ago. We threw on our jackets and headed there. Everyone was super accommodating and patient with my date. They even have a sibo eating chart printed out for guests. It was a breath of fresh air to have this type of customer service and a passion to every guests' needs. Oh and the food?? Delicious, fresh and made with love. Farm to table style comfort food. My little SIBO date was able to order an aged cheese plate with a 'on-the-fly' fruit relish made with honey instead of their usual. (thank you, chef.) She also had the steak with her legal allowed vegetables. If the food wasn't good, we would still return just based on their staff.

A good friend told us about this place. Being GF/DF isn't always easy when you want a sultry date night with your sweetie so we decided to act on his suggestion. My wife and I popped in here and were immediately charmed by the place and the people. We were treated like family and no one snickered at our allergies. Quite the opposite, really. Our server was extremely kind and knowledgeable about their menu (many, if not most, things are locally sourced) and our food allergies. The entire staff seemed truly genuine in wanting us to enjoy our experience there. And, let me tell you, did we ever! The evening there was fantastic. I'm not one for pasta and darlin, let me tell you- it was the best pasta I've ever had, completely gluten free. The next day I made it a point to tell all of my friends with/without food allergies to try TBH. Hell, I even stopped a lady in a New Seasons (I would do that anyway because I'm friendly but this time I was on a mission). The food and drinks are fantastic, the people are the best around and the atmosphere will warm you like a hug. Have fun and tell them the Lundin ladies sent ya. ;)

Came here for dinner with a friend. We sat outside on the patio and it was a very nice atmosphere. The selling point of this place is they can adjust their recipes to accommodate food allergies. This was my very first visit and I had the salmon alfredo and a kale salad - both very good. The cocktails were also very good. I look forward to coming in for another visit.

Amazing service and food! Had the beet salad, the red cabbage and the pork goulash. Aaaaaand the cashew cake with cherry sauce. Wow!

I'm really surprised by the bad reviews. The food was wonderful and the service equally so. Sure the decor needs a little updating but I'm not there to eat the curtains. I had the Stroganoff and nearly licked the plate clean. But to have a place that my wife can eat at with no worries whatsoever is priceless. And that I can enjoy every bite of my meal too is worth it. Cannot wait to go back!

My family hit up the Brooklyn House Restaurant for my birthday dinner. As a crew of eight with two people with celiac disease, one who is lactose intolerant, one vegetarian, and one who likes to eat paleo eating out often becomes more stressful than enjoyable. I was so excited when we found the Brooklyn House Restaurant. Finally! Somewhere we can all eat. We called ahead and they set us up a cute little table in their back room where we could all sit comfortably and explained how accommodating they were to all of our dietary restrictions. Our server was also sure to let us know they would gladly substitute or leave out something even if we "just don't like it". I always feel kind of awkward ordering, "I'd like this, but with this instead of this, and no that, and extra this." She made sure were at ease right away. It was also obvious that everyone who works their is excited to be involved in their establishment and that makes every experience so much better. The menu was pretty expansive and their liquor menu equally so. As a non-drinker, I was excited to see some fun mocktails and everyone was able to find something to suit their fancy. I'm told all the drinks were great, the wine list was excellent, and one of us even had some pretty good hot tea. Service was really friendly, but do make sure you're not on a tight schedule. I love spending a couple hours at dinner, but that is definitely something to keep in mind. We also probably could have used another round of drinks, but again it really wasn't a big a big deal at all. The atmosphere is very chill and we weren't really concerned about the limited staff. All our food was pretty good. Most of the dishes have a lunch or dinner size you can choose from and our crew appreciated that as we were all at various levels of hungry. The bread from New Cascadia was really lovely, especially the baguette with garlic butter, though I do wish it had been a bit warmer as it was a little hard to spread. I can't even remember the last time I was able to eat bread with my dinner and it was such a treat. Everything was presented nicely and everyone ate most of what they ordered. I had the steak cooked to a perfect medium-rare. It was really divine, with nice caramelization on the outside and just the right amount of pink. The dessert offerings, though. My goodness! This is really their strong point. Do not skip it. They are all, of course, gluten free, but they also offer vegan and nut free options. We ordered five out of the six and each one was positively outstanding. They even put a candle in one of them for my birthday. How dear. Do not skip dessert. Overall we had a great experience. It really was a breath of fresh air to find somewhere we could all enjoy eating in a nice sit-down environment with great service. We'll definitely be back. I'm only giving four stars because they were still ironing out some of the kinks of being a fairly new business and I think the food just needs an extra little something. I'm sure by my next birthday this place is going to be top-notch. I better make our reservation now.

A small, local place that felt comfortable. The service was excellent and took time to chat and educate us about the menu. We aren't on any special diets or restrictions so just asked Chef to prepare the meal as they wish. Starters, sweet potatoes with bacon and onion were tasty and not over cooked. Cheeses and breads were great. And especially loved the honey. Main courses, goulash was good, just a touch too spicey. Steak was cooked to medium and flavorful. We' ll be back!

Traveling with celiacs isn't hard in Portland. But just because a place is GF doesn't mean they are great. Brooklyn house restaurant is. We had an amazing meal and fabulous services. Our server Lisa was more than happy to guide me through the menu and accommodate me. We came at an off hour and she had a little extra time to chat with us. The cheese plate was amazing and so was the edelweiss sausage. I am a meat eater and gluten free and this place is a great place for that combo. You couldn't ask for better service. The restaurant has a German menu and the decor follows that. If I lived here I would come back. The price is pretty good with smaller plates for smaller portions and larger prices for larger portions. The ball and chain and I shared everything had one app and one dinner and now we are stuffed. Two thumbs up.

What a treat. My wife who is intolerant to wheat and corn enjoyed the best pasta dish she has had in years. The owner and wait staff are friendly, enthusiastic, and truly want to ensure you have a great experience. Their entire menu looks delicious, their prices are more than fair, and their food portions are generous. I am only holding back the 5th star until we have had the chance to enjoy more of their menu.,

Wonderful food, excellent service, fantastic experience! I have enjoyed many meals at the Brooklyn House and my experience is always a wonderful one! They have a great selection of soups, salads, pasta and meat dishes. Tonight I had the Beef Stroganoff, and my wife had the Mushroom Risotto with steak. Both were mouth watering, and I can't wait to come back and have some more!

The Brooklyn House seriously saved me during a rough gastronomic drought. Last year I was diagnosed with SIBO and put on an extremely strict diet (GAPS) that required I prepare nearly all my food at home, from scratch. While I don't frequently dine out, GAPS made it nearly impossible until I heard of Brooklyn House. Not only were they able to accommodate this rather extreme diet, but the incredibly informed staff already knew all the specific restrictions without me having to exhaustively explain everything to them. They make everything fresh so special requests are hardly an issue. The waitstaff treated me like a welcomed guest (not an inconvenience), and the food was totally delicious. The ambience is quaint and homey and the cocktails are killer. I'm happy to say I no longer have to adhere to that dreadful diet, and even happier to say I've been back to Brooklyn House several times because, well, they're awesome.

Thanks Yelp reviewers for pointing us here today. What a treat! And all gluten-free. Wow. We had an amazing cheese sampler with honey, a fantastic kale salad and 2 incredible sandwiches. I only wish we had more room in our tummies to try more things. We will definitely be back soon!

In a sea of vegans, vegetarians, picky foodies, and omnivores gobbling up wheat and fermented grain beverages, being someone who requires a medically prescribed special diet in Portland is rough. The trend of food purveyors when asked a barrage of questions regarding the local origins or ingredient list of foods is to say, "Yes, that's totally safe for your needs." I can assure you that a percentage of gluten-free or soy-free foods have been proven otherwise by my stomach and body. Being diagnosed with a digestive disorder or disease can be harrowing enough, but being unable to dine out with friends or the significant other is the worst - I simply cannot trust my health to servers and chefs. This is where Brooklyn House enters. Both of my doctors attended a conference recently with a dinner catered by Brooklyn House. They created a menu that was safe for all attendees, no matter their food restrictions or personal nutritional needs. This menu included cocktails and desserts safe for those on SCD (Specific Carbohydrate Diet), as well as GAPS, paleo, gluten-free, soy-free, vegan, etc. Everything was safe for those with SIBO - rare and unexpected at any venue. The food was delicious and no one had to go hungry or worry that they would have negative reactions to their dining experience. Amazing! When I heard about this seemingly magical dinner spot, I added a bookmark. Finally, after months without a date night, I could enjoy an evening without cooking or eating my own fare out of a Pyrex dish in my car before heading in to watch my friends eat. The entire staff was very attentive and not only brought out the special SCD-legal cocktail/mocktail menu but one of the servers (possibly an owner?) literally SAT DOWN at my table and reviewed my meal options based on their current seasonal menu. They wanted to make sure that my meal would be both safe for me to eat and delicious. The chef sent the server back out to discuss "flavor profiles" so I wasn't stuck with bland food per usual (part of SIBO treatment includes no garlic, onion, sugars, anything that can ferment). What I ended up with was a delicious honey-infused, strong cocktail and a perfectly cooked grass-finished steak with a side of brussels sprouts, simmered with oranges and fresh cranberries, and a side of sauteed spinach. My mouth and stomach were thrilled! My husband ordered an unmodified entree from the menu and really enjoyed it, especially the garlic infused parsnip puree. The staff kept checking in regularly to see if everything was to our liking and to see if we needed anything else. They were very sweet and attentive. The Brooklyn House Restaurant is offering a reservations for Valentine's Day this year that will include SIBO/SCD-safe chocolate fondue with special sides like a sunbutter cookie. We haven't decided if we will be dining out but if we do it will be at Brooklyn House. This will be our new standard go-to dinner spot. (Note: I did not rate Brooklyn House with 5 stars due to maintenance and speed of service. If I could give half stars, they would receive 4.5 stars instead. Their staff is a little small, perhaps doing both front of house and back of house tasks at once, so it took a little while to be served food. Drinks were immediately delivered, which helps a lot, as was dessert. Due to my needs, everything was worth waiting for and turned out grand. The decor and carpeting has not been updated in many years, definitely was not turned over when the ownership changed from The Berlin Inn - that may be a mistake. Regardless, the charm of the place and the care that the staff puts in to their product and service more than makes up for the lack of interior decoration budget.)

So blown away by this place. The waitress, which I think was an owner, was so knowledgable and explained to us how they are a tried and true farm to table restaurant. Absolutely everything in this place is gluten free and soy free=huge plus. We ordered sourdough baguette, a Cesar salad, rabbit Alfredo, and Hungarian goulash. The waitress warned us that the portion sizes were huge, and she was right. The large portion of rabbit Alfredo is 20.00 and comes with about two time as much as you would normally get in any restaurant. The gf pasta is the best I've ever had. I usually avoid getting gf pasta because it is normally hard or too soft. This was perfect, al Dente, with a rich Alfredo. The bread was warm, crispy on the outside with a soft, beautiful center. The kind of bread you want to eat all day! The Hungarian goulash was spicy was surrounded by a rich pork sauce. The only thing we weren't 100% stoked on was the Caesar salad because it was lacking in the dressing department. The dessert was fab. We had a cookie bar and a s'more bar. Nothing tasted dry and crumbly like many gf desserts can. These people know what they're doing. They will cater to any diet, vegan, vegetarian, paleo, GAPS, SCD, AIP, sf, you name it. We will be back!

They can suit any dietary need! I ate here multiple times over the holidays and they were able to meet my dietary needs. The Brooklyn Cream Pie was unbelievable. I'm sure I ate four or five. The roast goose for christmas was amazing. They know where they get their ingredients and were able to answer my questions about the farmers. I suggest this to anyone who love FARM to TABLE food and has any sort of dietary needs. The ladies out front rocked my socks with their service.

Delicious, healthy food in a romantic atmosphere. The chef is very willing to work with food allergies and diet preferences. The wait staff is delightful and cheery. Desserts. Yum. They bring them out on a platter to tempt you and it always works. Several vegan or healthier options are available. A SE Portland gem!

Amazing. Amazing. Amazing. Whether you are vegan, a meat eater, a regular joe, are a bit picky, have dietary needs (like GF, Soy Free, etc), or preferences, if you're a human being with a pulse GET TO THIS PLACE ASAP! It is some of the best food I have ever had. Not to mention it was all farm-to-table and AFFORDABLE (what???!!!). The owner/server is so beyond helpful, it was crazy. She basically created meals for us based on our needs and preferences (GF, Meat Free, Dairy Free). Who does that? SHE does. This experience at The Brooklyn House was one of the best dining experiences of my life. I really hope people search out this place and patronize it because it deserves all of the accolades. The epitome of was a great restaurant should be. GO. NOW!!!

My husband and I checked this place out last night, and we're already looking forward to our next visit. The service was fantastic. The staff makes you feel like you're an old friend, which I love. We ended up having a 4 course meal plus a bottle of wine for about $60, which is outstanding for the quality of food you're getting. You could easily spend much less there, but we wanted to try as many things as possible since it was our first visit. All the ingredients were clearly fresh and locally sourced. We started with the cantaloupe, blackberry, feta, and hazelnut salad. It was fantastic. My husband and I shared the small size, and it was a great size for the two of us. Next we shared the small smorgasbord, which included olive tapenade, roasted red peppers with garlic, mozzarella cheese, and zucchini. It usually comes with lamb pate too. Everything was very good, but I would have liked it even more if they had included a 2nd type of cheese... something sharp to offset the mild mozzarella. We each ordered a pasta for our 3rd course. My husband got the spicy pork with rotini, and I got the clams and mussels over fettucine. Both were absolutely outstanding. For dessert, we shared a Brooklyn Cream Pie, and it was deeee-licious. The other desserts on their tray looked equally irresistible, so I'm looking forward to trying another one next time! Big thank you to the Brooklyn House Restaurant for their warm hospitality and scrumptious food!

The bacon roasted sweet potatoes and lamb confit now haunt my dreams...SO good! The place is comforting and quaint, very homey with a classic European feel. And all of their delicious dishes are gluten free, AND they also have paleo-friendly desserts?! The lemon bars, chocolate marshmallow pie thing (I believe it was called a moon pie?), and cashew cream pie are what I've tried thus far...all absolutely delicious (and I mean good by regular standards, not just "good for gluten free"). The staff is also very nice and personable. The first time I went was with a friend, then I brought my sister and father there for Father's day two days later because I just had to eat there again :) I have a gluten allergy and follow a paleo diet, my sister has a dairy allergy and she eats a mostly vegan diet, and my father has a corn syrup allergy...and all of us were able to successfully stuff our neurotic faces here. It's wonderful to have a place that not only caters to dietary restrictions, but actually does it so well to the point where, while you're dining there, you really don't feel like you HAVE dietary restrictions. And if you're lucky enough not to have any dietary restrictions, go here anyways; you'll love the food, too

Outstanding gluten-free food. This is not your basic no gluten plate. This is wonderful, creative, deliciously satisfying cooking that is not too earthy and not too experimental. The flavors are complex, but you know what you are eating. There are two problems with this restaurant. One, the location, is worth ignoring. It's where they are. The second is the decor, which surely they could do something about. It is too dark, grandmotherly in a not charming way, and made worse by mustard gold table linen- the only splash of color against a lot of very dark woodwork. Surely table clothes are available in warm colors that stimulate appetite and are welcoming- rose or pumpkin or sky blue or spring green. Mustard yellows are the shade least appealing to subjects in lab testing, and most disruptive to digestion.

We were looking forward to going to the Brooklyn house for dinner. Cute house, great location near the Alladin theater, small but interesting menu. Wow, I have to say this was by far the worst food I have ever had in PDX. My hubby ordered the Pasta Puttenesca. It was a tobasco sauce delusion over raw pasta. Maybe they were trying to make it al-dente but forgot to cook it? I have no idea what it was supposed to be, but it was not Puttenesca and it was not good. I ordered the chicken leg, and was told they were out of it. ( the restaurant was opened 90 minutes) So I ordered Vegetable Paella. That came out looking like left overs slapped on a plate; white rice sauteed with overcooked left over vegetables. It was honestly that basic and that bad. Again any resemblance to the named dish was delusional. Noting the other reviews on Yelp, it seems we may have ordered the wrong entrees, because the Yelp reviews for their meat entrees were good. I'm hoping that it was just a really bad night for the restaurant.

Brooklyn House desperately needs a renovation. The restaurant is in a house and has the vibe of a retirement home. It's hard for me to pay $20 a plate when I have a piece of cloth tacked over an electrical outlet to cover up the exposed wiring just behind my head. The dining experience is not just about how local the food is- there is a whole presentation side that they lack... from the servers wearing tennis shoes to the all-over carpet that extends outside to the noodle dishes we couldn't bring ourselves to finish. Not date-night material.

We just finished an excellent dinner here. As the suppliers of turkey for Thanksgiving dinner we wanted to experience what quality of food was being served here. The service and the food were both excellent. We had chicken and steak entrees and both had the beet salad and bread. It was all amazing. I'm sure our turkeys are in good hands here and we will be back for more of everything. We took our our dessert home so more on this later.

Decent place, but the customer service was lacking. When I brought it to the management's attention, they were patronizing and almost mocking in their response. Not even an apology. So much for the customer always being right! For me, that's enough to ruin my night and make me never go back.

We asked our doctor at the National College of Natural Medicine clinic to suggest a restaurant that served a fresh, healthy meal at a reasonable price. She suggested The Brooklyn House. She said the daily menu is complete, but they will customize a meal for you if your needs are unique. It was an excellent recommendation! The food was fantastic..... fresh, local and well thought out. The owner/server knew the menu inside out and the choices were many and unique. Nice sized portions and reasonably priced. Quite atmosphere, complete bar. We had a wonderful evening and couldn't be more pleased. The gluten free lemon tart was exquisite. We highly recommend them.

While gluten free is the norm, they can accommodate other issues such as dairy. Versatile in making food possible with whatever modifications a customer might need. Tried the pork goulash today. Full of flavor and the way it was prepared, with sauerkraut on top, really made a huge difference. Adding flavor to the mix was a bonus...but the crunch of the sauerkraut was really, really a great touch. I thoroughly enjoyed it and of course, we'll be back.

Had a great Valentine's Dinner with these lovely people at the Brooklyn House. The food was really fresh, clean and tasty. Erika was really sweet and very helpful with picking out some dairy free-egg free dishes. My favorite dishes that we had: The salads were great, especially the one that starts with a K.... They are very inventive with really nice flavor mixing and abundant portions. The meatballs with a lamb/beef mix were tender and soooo good...came with a really nice red sauce for dipping. One of my only wishes is for a gluten free and EGG free pasta of some sort. I know it's hard to please everyone and all these crazy allergies, but these guys sure do try to please with such genuine care and kindness. We will definitely be back for another yummy meal. We are so lucky to have The Brooklyn House! Thanks again for a lovely evening.

The food is out-of-this-world incredible. Everything I've ever had here, from the duck to the fish to the beet salad to the cocktails have been some of the best I've ever had. I'm not a world traveler but I've been to a great many restaurants in Northern Europe and the US. Brooklyn House is my favorite farm-to-table restaurant I've ever been to. I like it a lot more than other popular ones in town. The owner is near-obsessed with sourcing the best meat and produce available to all humanity. She visits the farms regularly and knows the farmers personally. I'm sorry the reviewer who didn't like the decor didn't get a chance to eat the amazing food. I can understand how she thought the discolored tablecloths were weird. But I can assure everyone that the tablecloths are cleaned and changed. I'm there often enough to know. The tablecloths are probably just made with some natural fiber that discolors. The owner is so committed to ethics I can picture her not wanting to compromise by getting stain-resistant tablecloths. I can overlook it and I'm probably the biggest neat freak in Portland. There is a special table by the window you can request by phone for special occasions. You could even request a non-dis colored tablecloth. But don't miss out on the food.! I eat here on all my most special occasions and I would eat here every day if I could.

We have been long time fans of the Berlin Inn so we were anxious about the changes. Have no fear, the best part of the Berlin Inn have been preserved and the changes only enhance the experience. The staff at the Brooklyn House are by far the best. They are knowledgeable, sociably and have a quick wit. The food is amazing! We just had an incredible dinner that was lively in flavor and presentation. Everything tasted fresh and prepared with a skilled hand. The environment has been vastly improved from the Berlin Inn days and the new ambience invokes peaceful hangout vibes. A wonderful local business to support and it will continue to be a choice haunt for us.

WOW, what a sweet surprise. I stopped by because I heard they were a Gluten-Free restaurant and they were so much more than that. They are also Paleo and SCD friendly. Soy-free, Peanut-free and absolutely delicious. They source things locally, they are conscious about where they purchase their products and on top of that they were super informed about special diets. They were incredibly welcoming and kind and open to substitutions and special orders. The restaurant itself is super cute and cozy as well.

I've been to The Brooklyn House three times since it has opened, and all three experiences have been wonderful. The food is some of the best I've had and their innovative cocktails were so delicious. I love the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly staff. They always provide a respite from my hectic life. Thanks for making both my parents' visit and my birthday nights that I will remember for a long, long time.

We ate there about a month ago and the food was great. The service was a bit slow but the waitress was great. We ate there again last night. The chicken was tough and my wife's quail was overcooked. The service was slow again, which was hard to overlook when the food was bad. For what they charge, I expect better food and service.

Our new go-to gluten-free and healthy and delicious restaurant! Met an out of town guest here with other friends. While the service was quite slow (they were busy!) it wasn't an issue for us seeing as how we wanted to visit. Just something to remember on a busy night or weekend. The bread dipping plate was a perfect starter for the table, and at $12 for a large serving, plenty for all 4 of us. Scrumptious mushroom gravy served on meatloaf. One guest dined on steak that looked cooked to perfection. Learned something new: this place is on "distillery row" so we had a few signature cocktails made with local liquors. Dee-lish!

I disagree with James (who apparently only gives one star reviews). The food was artful, tasty and farm-to-plate. No this isn't the Berlin Inn, but I would have thought that the name change would have given that away. The great staff and management from the former Berlin Inn have created a new homey healthy experience geared towards feeding everyone no matter their dietary preference. Go to the Brooklyn House and you will feel like you're being treated to a homemade meal by dear friends. I can't wait to go back and see this place grow!

The first time I ate at BHR after the transition from the old restaurant I had some reservations, but I know with new restaurants (as with any new business) the beginnings may be a bit bumpy so I waited a while and returned, and am happy to say I definitely recommend this place. They've retained the homey comfortable sense to their decor while removing large amounts of dusty cliche clutter, which is great. They still have the fantastic patio where you can eat in the sun surrounded by flowers (and now by plants growing some of their food, I definitely saw tomatoes, lettuce, and some kind of onion/chive). And I super appreciate the menu having so many "small portion" options and plates for just a few dollars, for those with a small appetite or small wallet. The first time I ate here it was pretty late and they were out of nearly half the menu, so many delicious-sounding dishes were not available. The mixed greens salad was delicious, as was the dish with beets, and the hungarian goulash. The sourdough bread with butter was only okay, but hey, it's bread and butter. I liked the fettucine alfredo but thought the noodles were a little undercooked - but I've never gone for the "al dente" thing so maybe this is my personal preference. I returned for the mushroom risotto (not available at my first visit) which was only good...until I took the garnish and shredded it into the dish, which may be what they expected me to do from the beginning, but I think most people don't consider the garnish part of what's edible on the plate, wish it was prepared in the dish with extra garnish on the side. The lamb special was amazing too, the lamb was perfectly cooked and I was surprised to find the red pepper/olive/caper preparation delicious (I usually don't like red pepper or olives). I again found the rice a little underseasoned on its own, but when I made mixed bites of rice and lamb with the tapenade it was perfectly matched, the rice lent a smoothness to the rest of the bite. Topping everything off was dessert. First round: a cashew torte cheesecake with a berry sauce; I thought the cheesecake thing was okay; I'm not a big cheesecake fan, but the berry sauce was amazing. Second round, some complicated-named thing which was basically a giant (homemade) marshmallow on a brownie coated with chocolate, on top of some type of cream sauce (equally as delicious as the berry sauce, I'd eat a bowl of this alone), with sliced fruit and nuts to garnish. I will say I ate a couple bites of the brownie and it was pretty good, which is HIGH praise because I don't think chocolate and flour belong together and generally hate brownies. The marshmallow was heaven though, drizzled with that dark chocolate, with the vanilla sauce and fresh fruit, SO GOOD. In everything, both times, I could really taste the freshness. The asparagus was juicy and tender, you could tell it wasn't shipped from Chile or Australia or something. It's great to support local farms, definitely, but eating here is proof of why it's not just something to do to be politically correct, it really gives you a better experience in a meal. And, awesome that you get that and affordable prices as well. Room for improvement (who doesn't have this), but overall excellent.

We had a lovely experience here. The staff was attentive and helpful with explaining the food choices. Most items on the menu are split into half and full servings, so we decided to try quite a few dishes. We both LOVED our salads, which were equally delicious and beautiful! (Fresh flowers adorned all of the food!) Everything we tried just tasted so fresh! The flavors were distinct and thoughtfully put together. We will definitely be going back.

getting antsy on my last week of the Whole30 i thought a change of pace could really do some good for me, so i decided to google "whole30 compliant restaurants portland oregon" this place came up and I'm so glad it did! the place was a little crammed...tables in places you wouldnt think tables could fit etc. but it was also very cozy and a friendly environment. I got the ghoulash on a bed of sweet potatos instead of pasta, and it was fantastic! our server was very accommodating and friendly, and gave pointers as to how to order being on a restrictive diet. My mom got the albacore (i think?) over a bed of vegetables instead of pasta and she said it was also to die for! the only setback we had was when we made the reservations we didnt mention that we needed a highchair, and they only have one available which was already in use when we got there, so my little one was crawling about for the first half of our stay until the previous highchair-user had finished their meal. so if you have a little guy and make reservations (which i suggest you do) dont forget to mention the high chair!

I had my bridal shower at Brooklyn House, and it was wonderful! The food was amazing, the service was friendly and engaging, and we had our own little room to ourselves. We had a great time, and Brooklyn House was incredibly helpful. I recommend it for dates, parties, or gatherings.

We had my daughter's bridal shower today. We had great appetizers, lunch entrees, drinks. I love the addition of edible flowers and leaves. Erica catered to the varied dietary needs of the group. Excellent service too. Delicious food even if you aren't Celiac or have food allergies.

They mean all Gluten-Free, which is exactly what we're looking for. The staff and restaurant was warm, cozy and homely. Food was a balance of gourmet, local fresh and comfort. The best dishes from our visit were the GF sour dough bread, kale salad, veal schnitzel and GF lemon bar.

Amazing eats! Great service! Wonderful atmosphere! I came here with my wife and some friends, one of whom doesn't eat soy, dairy, or gluten. The staff was great at helping her pick given her needs. I was struck by how many delicious items she could have (I'd never heard of dairy-free pesto... So tasty!). I had the rack of lamb with risotto. Well, they were out of risotto, but the succotash was recommended as a good side. The meat was juicy and flavorful and perfectly spiced and I loved the succotash. The rest of the group ordered a couple pastas and a salad and everyone left beaming. Yet another example of fresh ingredients expertly prepared making life better! I'm excited to go back.

What a delightful discovery. Delicious gluten free entries served in an extremely friendly environment. I had veggie Alfredo and, two days later, am savoring the culinary experience. It was wonderful to go out for dinner and not feel intimidated by the chef because of our need for special requests. We'll be going back to the Brooklyn House often with friends and out of town guests we want to impress with a quintessential Portland evening.

All around disappointing replacement for the amazing Berlin Inn. Manages to do bread poorly. Anemic menu with very few options. Definitely no longer a German restaurant by any means.

We had a wonderful Christmas dinner, turkey with all the trimmings, at Brooklyn House. Delicious! The place was packed and the servers were really busy, but they still managed to make time for us and make us feel welcome. I felt like the crew genuinely liked each other and there was a good vibe all around. Lot of locals. A quirky and fun place to hang out on a holiday.
