This place is the GEM of Nob Hill!! Walked past it a few times on my way home from the gym and decided to check it out. Although it's in what used to be a gas station, the place is very laid back, clean and relaxed! Definitely a well-needed change of pace from your typical NW Portland restaurant. Decided to get the Western burger w/fries, and for just about $8 I am stuffed! The burger was big, juicy and delicious, and I couldn't put away all of those fries! I will definitely be back to this place, from what I've read about the teriyaki plates they offer, looks like that will be next!!! Only bad thing I have to say about this place is their hours! Only open till 5 PM?! And also the drinks. They do give you a small soda when you get fries with a burger, but you have to pay for refills. Not enough to keep me away though!

This place is run by North Korean dissidents who rebelled against the unfair dictatorship for Kim Il Sun and moved to America to fulfil their dream of opening a burger and teriyaki joint. This place is FOR THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE kind of place and is usually full of truckers, local mechanics, and other undersirables that are only visiting our fancy part of town because they happen to work here. The "American" food on the menu obviously tastes like a** because that's what the tobacco chewing, chain smoking blue collar clientelle wants. The Asian food though, is surprisingly delicious and totally worth the money for a lunch option. Bonnie may never get to go back to the fertile lands of North Korea, but at least she's here, helping keep America's stomach running!

Bonnie Burger is for the people! It is a low-key place that reminds me of the good old days of Portland. It's located in what, at first glance, appears to be a convenience store behind a gas station. They mainly seem to cater the Good Sam employees and other folks in-the-know who want good/quick cheap eats. The first thing that should be mentioned is the insane value you get at this place. The western burger, for example, is two huge patties, a couple of massive deep fried onion rings, cheese, THICK bacon strips, onions, lettuce, pickles, bbq sauce. The second you pick it up you'll tremble at its beastly density. For a couple extra bucks they'll basically fill the rest of the bag up with fries and give you a soda. A burger like this anywhere else in Portland would easily run 12 bucks. I believe the place is Korean owned because more and more often Im seeing all sorts of "eastern" options on the menu, from kimchi to eggrolls to yakisoba to gyoza and all sorts of things. The teriyaki chicken is great - all of it = great portions and low price. It almost seems like too good of a deal, like they don't realize how much more they could be charging. Overall, my favorite is the filet o fish sandwich. It is exactly what it should be, two massive pieces of battered and fried fish on a bun with mayo lettuce and pickles. I get the maddest cravings for it. The only other fried fish I crave is from the Frying Scotsman cart, but I think I actually prefer the fish sandwich at Bonnie Burger. Overall the women who work here are very friendly and offer huge portions of awesome food for a price not even food carts could touch. I feel bad seeing people make cheap comments about "gas station burgers", as though they drizzle diesel on the food. I'm guessing this location is what allows them to price things so affordably. There's definitely a working class clientele that frequents this place, not the usual Beard-N-Banjo hipster crowd who will look you up and down and give you the cold shoulder if you don't fit in. This place is a good reminder of the old Portland, people-wise and price-wise.

I've been eating at BB at least twice a month for over five years. My usual fare is the $4.99 lunch special -- chicken bowl, bottled water with no complaints. Another favorite is the Udon soup, you'll want to take a nap afterwards. Very large portion with lots of chicken, noodles and vegetables. The little plastic spoon they supply doesn't cut it though, just toss it aside and eat the noodles and chicken with chop sticks while the broth cools, then slurp down the broth from the bowl. The chicken and gyoza combo is another good one. If you want something spicy, order the spicy chicken combo. It'll knock your socks off, you'll be wiping sweat from your brow. I've never had their burgers, but they sure look good. Judging from the comments, I'll have to try one on my next visit. For the thin skinned folks who wrote their reviews...get a life! Maybe if you got out of the way while you made up your fucking mind, they wouldn't have treated you like a fucking moron for holding up the line when they're fucking busy. BTW, I've never had a bad experience with any of the BB workers. What goes around, comes around. Good food, great prices and contrary to a couple of cry babies, a nice lunch place.

What a hidden treasure! If you're into big, greasy burgers that are FAR better than Burgerville but hover around the same price, Bonnie's is your place. Tater tots, too (Portland is SO into tots but nobody seems to have them but McMenamins. Weird, right?). Bonnie's tots are so oily they'll turn your paper bag see-through and your gut into a fart factory. If you are aware and accepting of this fact going in, you'll have an awesome experience. Avocado bacon burger. Delish. I've been walking straight past this place for YEARS thinking it was a gas station convenience store. How sad. Don't you feel sorry for me? I do.

LMFAO!!! TRAVIS! You are so funny and so right. I got frowned upon for ordering greasy tater tots a couple of months ago! I know for a fact, I ordered greasy tater tots and I got greasy fries instead. It was the second time it happened to me so I wasn't going to let it go. They were very unpleasant, They actually argued with me saying that I did not order tater tots. JeeWiz. I know what I ordered and it wasn't fries. The lady behind the counter actually got pissed at me when I finally ended the argument (that wasn't going anywhere cause she didn't speak much English) by saying, "OK, let me buy a separate order of tater tots and I'll kept the fries". No customer service at all! And they need to start wearing hair nets and/or hats!..

Zero stars---negative stars. (Yelp made me click at least one.) When deciding, with my friends, where we were going to eat, I called Bonnie Burger to get some information, and was berated by telephone. Staff demanded to know who I was ("You can't just call and not say who you are") and, even after I shared my name and potential-customer status, they refused to tell me anything about the location or hours, and refused to let me speak to anyone else---all in a demeaning and abrupt tone. I have never been treated more horribly by a supposed customer-serving organization. I know it's silly, but I feel hurt. I will not be visiting Bonnie Burger.

Bonnie's was originally located at 18th and Lovejoy and was the go-to cheap fast food in NW for decades. Real drive-in, maybe a picnic table. Burgers & fries & shakes. Now it's owned by a Korean family and moved into a former gas/grocery spot. Burgers are good, cheap and fast. Fries are hot and salty. Formica, florescent. The teriyaki / donburi items are ghastly ideals of what American's want to eat. What I'd like to eat is what the staff eats. Again, cheap, clean, fast, good burgers & fries.

I work nearby and decided to give Bonnie's a try after I read about their curry rice in Willamette Week's Cheap Eats. Large egg rolls, Burgers, teriyaki and yakisoba all fair to good and cheap. Don't look for atmosphere, and don't expect to refill your bevvie without paying extra.

Had I reviewed Bonnie's after only eating there one time, I probably would have given it only three stars. But after approx. 5 visits, this place really earns an extra star for consistency, cleanliness, and value. My $3 burger from Bonnie's is TWICE as good as my soggy $8 burger from the local Mcmenamins. Add a couple more bucks and you got a drink and more fries than you can possibly finish to boot. The burgers are great, the gyro is alright, and I'm about to venture into their Asian side of the menu. And they do take out!

Gas station lunch spot sounds like a terrible idea, I admit. But I just chowed down on a pretty good $2.95 (+2 for fries & drink) burger. The menu is nicely varied, several different burgers, gyro, hit & cold sammiches, teriyaki & yakisoba. There's also a small snack selection. Drawback? Limited hours and charges for refills. That last is always down a star (unless the place had a bad loitering problem).
