After a day of traveling, touring, walking and wine-tasting we stopped here for an early dinner. We sat at the bar for a martini (which was perfectly mixed and shaken) and ordered some fresh oysters. We then moved onto the dining room in a cozy dark little nook. The cheese cart was awesome. I ordered an awesome beet salad off a pre-fix menu which was fine by them and dinner was rich in flavor but not heavy on the stomach - perfect. The only bad moment came when a bus-boy slid our piles of salt and pepper on the table and I asked what it was (it was dark and to my defense I thought it was some tapinade for the bread or something) he was already walking away - barely took the time to stop, half turned around rolled his eyes impatiently and said - "uh... salt and butter" as if to say - you idiot! The decor was nice - the holiday lights were up, and it was a nice spot to watch people strolling in the Pearl District. Pros: Awesome cheese cart Food was fantastic Good spot with nice ambiance Cons: Wine list not very interesting Snooty bus boys

The place is really elegant. I did though felt a little outta place in jeans and a T-shirt but non the less it was very comfortable. Food: it was a smaller plate but surprisingly it filled me up. Service was great, really polite and not annoying. All around great place!

Fun Friday night date for the hubby and I! It was actually our anniversary dinner, though my bashful husband didn't feel comfortable sharing that with our server. Ambience is beautiful and the dining room refreshingly mellow with low noice level; easy conversation with your dinner mates without having to yell to be heard! We loved the big reds they had available by the glass. I had the house blend, which was reasonably priced, medium bodied, and delightfully juicy. The server mentioned they rotate their house blend, which is interesting. We started with the cheese platter- LOVED the cheese but felt they skimped a little bit on the accompaniments.. I felt like I was literally scraping the board to balance out the richness of the cheese. Also did not love the house rolls they brought out- hard to cut into (too hard for their butter knives), chewy, overall just difficult to work with. Entres were fantastic. I had the halibut with the pureed corn sauce... quite possibly the best combo I've ever had with halibut! Was a little disappointed by the small portion and high price as my husband had the roasted chicken with goat cheese polenta (also super yummy!), which was literally double to size and far less $$. A bit too much of a disparity in my opinion. Great food though, regardless. They lost a star because we were seated for over 15 minutes before our server finally made it over to us, and it just wasn't that busy :( We noticed most of the tables around us already had food, so I'm not sure why the delay. Reading through other reviews, slow service seems to be a theme... That being said, she seemed a bit embarrassed and provided prompt service the rest of the evening. The support staff were also professional and friendly. Would love to return and try out their happy hour.

I only came here for happy hour drinks, so I will write a more detailed review once I have had a chance to eat here... but the ambiance here is spot on! On a nice day, their outdoor patio is a perfect spot to grab a drink and people watch in the Pearl. Their happy hour is 4-6 and they have great prices on their small plates and cocktails/drinks. The service here was also very friendly and they were ON TOP of keeping my water glass filled on the 85 degree day yesterday! Overall, I look forward to coming back and experiencing the food!

Cool place. Very upscale. Went with a group of friends for some drinks. Service is so polite and food came out very quickly. Great place to take friends for small bites . We ordered the oysters and we all kinda wish they were a bit larger or at least a few more for 22$ . Could totally just be us but all in all great shawanky place ! Portland needs more places like this !

If you know anything about me you know I love all things fancy and you can bet that includes a fancy happy hour. Lucky for me Bluehour is just a stroll away from my abode and located in the Pearl District. Besides the upscale, elegant atmosphere and impeccable service that Bluehour delivers, it also offers up a diversely delicious happy hour. One of my favorite things to indulge in is the $20.00 bottle of bubbly to go with the $2.00 spiced hazelnuts. Of note: If you look at the online menu you will find it is not what they currently offer. On my last visit I intended to order the wild prawns and was told those were no longer on the happy hour menu but in its place were seared scallops, which I did order and let me just say - Oh My God, they were amazing. The soup of the day was squash, which really hit the spot on a rainy and cold evening. For those of you not lucky enough to be able to walk to Bluehour, you don't need to worry about fussing with parking which can be tiresome in the Pearl District as they offer valet service. Bon appétit! 2014 - Review # 95

It's hard to explain why I didn't go 5 star here, as this place truly is wonderful, but awkward wine ordering is the culprit. My colleague and I were seated at a nice corner table and during our wine musings asked for help as ( of course!) the wine list was heavy on the WA and OR wines. We described what we were after and gave a price point to stick around. The server immediately began gushing about an amazing bottle that we would seemingly die if we didn't try only to discover it was 150% of the price point mentioned. Now, I'm all for a good up sell, but don't smack me over the head with it. Perhaps start with describing a bottle or two more in the range and then go up from there. I dunno. It was very uncomfortable though and really spoiled the vibe. Thankfully the stemware was nice and the right kind for our Pinot noir. The atmosphere is cozy/posh/upscale with ethereal lighting and nice spacing between tables. Amuse bouche was a tiny mushroom tart, which was a savory little nibble, followed by our soup and salad respectively. I had a radicchio and beet salad which was a perfect winter salad and my companion a smooth broccoli soup. My coho salmon was to die for and melt in your mouth texture. We skipped dessert as we were utterly overloaded with the richness of the food. Other than the bizarre wine incident we had a lovely time. I would come again and pray for a less pretentious server.

In search of happy hour, try Bluehour. Draft beer $4, cocktails / wine $6, and an abundant menu $2-$8, includes almonds, olives, soup, Dungeness crab croquettes, caesar salad, cheese, deviled eggs, burger, etc. We love the grass fed burger $8--no skimping, big & delicious with white cheddar cheese and grilled onions and comes with fries. Great deal for burger people, like us! Tonight, the burger is a choice-combo of wagu, kobe & grass-fed ground chuck! It is a cool-posh place with bar on the permitter of a simple-elegant dining room with long flowing curtains and windows open to the bustling 13th Ave. alley. Light is low! The mood is party, kick-back or chat quietly with a friend or lover, you will discover--the mood you are looking for. And the service is most attentive and making certain you are in the mood!

This is a TBR (throwback review): I used to live in Portland and used to frequent BlueHour often. I was most drawn to their amazing Happy Hour (excellent drinks and small bites) their food was very well done, a lot of farm to table dishes and the flavors were always spot on. Service was equally great and the servers really seemed to care about the patrons. My most memorable meal here was with a group of 7 friends on a reunion visit to PDX. We went all out that night, bottles of wine, cheese from their mobile cheese cart (that cheese cart was amazing, it's what shuttled me into the world of cheeses head first) I'll never forget that this is where I tried winnemere cheese for the first time (insanely unctuous and delicious). I've not been in years so I can only speak from what I remember, but it seems the reviews are somewhat mixed now. Next time I'm in PDX I'll have to give BlueHour another try. It's been too long

Stopped by for happy hour, and had a glass of white wine and their fried asparagus appetizer. Both were very, very good. I wanted to try more off their menu, but my boyfriend & I had dinner plans at another restaurant close by. I'm definitely coming back to try more of their menu next time I'm in Portland. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and was pretty quiet around 5/5:30pm, which was a very nice change from some of the other breweries and restaurants in the area.

I don't know when they open. I had to wait quite some time before actually entering the place and had to called and made sure they're not closed. Turns out they forgot to unlock the doors, lol. Anyways, my meat was overcooked and the wait was incredibly long. At that time me and my co-workers were the only ones in there as well. Interior decor is stunning, great service, but food could be better.

Came here on a whim, since we planned to go to Mediterranean Exploration Company but ran into this place first. When my friend saw dungeness crab, we gladly switched allegiances and found a place at the bar. We were shocked to find out happy hour ends at 6:30p and dungeness was on the menu! We had two orders of the crab--which was good, but not memorable. Crab was fresh enough, but didn't taste the celery, the chives, or the Parmesan. We also had the foraged mushrooms - the egg had a double yolk, and the mushrooms were delicious, definitely got the thyme. This was definitely executed well. My friend is also obsessed with panna cotta, so we got their mixed berry version. Upon first bite, it tasted like mixed berry Yoplait yogurt. My friend was not in love with it, and gave me the rest. Not sure if mixing the berries into the panna cotta was sitting right with our tastes. The tartness of the blueberries combined with the cinnamon oatmeal shortbread gave it another dimension--I would have loved to have more of that shortbread. I had this bookmarked to try their happy hour when I first visited Oregon, and based on research I decided that I would skip the happy hours. Now that I've tried some of the food and experienced the ambiance, I'm not sure will be back unless the meal was expensed by clients. The restaurant seems to be a place where corporations would have a group dinners and spend $$$ on wine, cocktails, and probably some elegant plates, but value-wise, not sure if it would stack up. Service, however, was excellent--the girl at the bar was attentive and I liked her attitude.

I'm surprised that I'm giving Bluehour such a low rating. The food was great, the drinks were fairly tasty, but delivered slowly. The service was perfunctory. We went with high hopes. I didn't leave my seat during the meal, but told my fella that I thought the server was server for our section, outside, and also the bartender, and that's why she wasn't attentive and why our drinks took so long (and why she forgot one!) I was pretty surprised when we walked around the curtain and saw that there was a fully staffed bar. I had that universally hated experience of wanting to order something but being unable to get the attention of a server, hostess, or expediter in order to put my order in. There were a total of 6 other tables, including the ones sitting and already eating when we sat, and the one which sat while we were waiting to order dessert. Great food, delicious wine, surprisingly subpar service. I'm honestly not sure I'll give them another shot.

Bluehour used to be among my favorite restaurants in Portland, but after brunch on Mother's Day I don't think we will be going back. We were seated and waited for quite a long time to put our order in, which would be fine, the company was good and we were visiting. The problem occurred after we had been sitting for 1 hour and 20 minutes and still had no food in front of us. Luckily we did not have small children with us. It was 1 hour and 30 minutes from the time we sat down until our food arrived. In that time we had to ask for water and coffee every time, our server came by voluntarily one time and when I asked for some bread for our son we were brought biscuits that were "on the house". I understand that it was a special occasion, but the restaurant was only half full and of those tables I would guess that most had reservations, so they knew what they were getting in to for the day. When our food finally did arrive half of it came a full 5 minutes after the first half. The one order of steak and egg was both cold and missing the egg. We sent it back, after 5 minutes it returned not re-fired but simply re-heated with an egg thrown on top, so that the steak was then over cooked. I am so sad to have to remove bluehour from our list of favorites, or in fact choices, I'm afraid the other restaurants in the chain will likely fall off the list as well.

Really nice ambiance, with hanging curtains throughout that could be used to provide a bit of privacy for a larger party. The service was excellent, from the hostess to the server to the busser. The variety of food groups represented on the menu was much appreciated--Portland has awesome comfort foods, but it can be challenging to find healthy vegetables and salads! The eggplant soup was flavorful and really hot, as a soup should be ( lukewarm soup is all too common), and the chicken chop salad was chock full of artisan organic lettuce and a variety of vegetables in a good sized portion! The halibut with Brussels sprouts and pesto sauce was perfectly cooked and had a lot of flavor as well. Definitely will be back!

Another fantastic meal in Bluehour last night with out of town family members. Everything was delicious! I'm glad to see that this restaurant hasn't lost its touch and keeps up the good work. We'll be coming back for more! Thank you, Bluehour for another great night!

I wasn't able to eat a meal here. Nothing on the menu was really appealing ... Especially not inhumane food like foie gras yuck! And everything is covered random pairings that discourage my picky appetite. - put an egg on it! I ordered their version of garlic/truffle fries ....but they must have been made 6+ hours before and REHEATED them in the oven, because they were mostly hard and very very dry inside.. idk how you mess up french fries but.... I have had their affogato ... For $6 & served in a short bar glass for like a whiskey drink. If you don't have the proper dishes to serve something why bother... are you going to bring me a plastic fork as well? luckily I wasn't the one paying. Disappointing... if the food and drink menu were better I would go all the time. Nice decor and ambiance though.

Bluehour has been around for a while, and I sometimes forget how great the happy hour is. Last night I decided to give it a try since it had been forever, and I noticed the happy hour menu had changed slightly. Same upscale ambiance that makes you feel like one of the cool kids, same professional service, and same $20 bottles of wine and bubbly. How can you pass that up? We had the $3 fries, $1 marcona almonds, the $6 pasta special which came with the lamb ragu. I had also ordered the $4 fish slider, but the server forgot until we reminded him. No biggy, things happen. Everything was great. The fries were super crispy as I prefer them. The almonds are always delicious and go well with about any cocktail or beverage. The fish slider was grilled cod with capers and remoulade which was tasty. Joe really enjoyed the pasta. As you can see in the photo, it is quite a generous portion. All in all, you can certainly make a dinner from their happy hour selections. It isn't rambuctious in the bar, so I don't know if I would recommend it for a girls night out. There was an older couple next to us that kept giving us stink eye for chatting and laughing a little bit. It was quite odd. It's not a damn library ya old fogies. It's a perfect spot for a date. Don't forget to check out the bathrooms. They're cool.

What great place! The ambiance, service and food were well worth the drive from Seattle. I started off with the Foie gras which was delicious and for my main I had the sole which was cooked to perfection! Our wait staff were incredibly helpful and friendly.

The inside of this restaurant is super nice and the bar is a great place to have a few bites to eat and have some happy hour drinks. The bartenders are nice and make interesting drinks or a request without hesitation. I did get very sick, like have to rush home, after having the cesar salad dressing here and some other bites though which is why I have a hard time rating this place high.

Overpriced and hyper-pretentious compared to the lounges around it.

Note: I'm writing this as a bar customer. If you choose to sit in the dining room, you crave an atmosphere of elitism and old money (or new money that acts like old money on vacation). That's entertaining if you're into that. If you're a no-nonsense customer who likes good food, pretty surroundings and good service, you'll go sit in the back near the window and the kitchen. Great menu, great service, no frills. Nice after hours idea for a date gone right. Plus, the bathrooms are nicer than your therapist's office. So to speak. Hey Bruce, I'm a supporter of your restaurants because they never fail when it comes to the most important elements of entertainment: food, service, atmosphere. That's why you've made bank. I found your restaurant by walking down the street before the Pearl blocked the view of the Fremont Bridge. When that neighborhood was still empty warehouses and squatters. When your place was like the jazz dream you only get in the West Village of New York. Way before obnoxious platforms like Yelp.

A fine place for a high-priced evening celebration. We had the tasting menu, and all the dishes were delicious and artistically prepared. It was a cold night in a room with high ceilings, but the draperies kept it warm, and the staff were attentive and friendly. With wine, about $140. My one suggestion would be that the wait staff had to keep changing out our silverware after each course, replacing unused knives with exactly the same sort - a lot of unnecessary work for them all.

This is my new favorite restaurant in Portland. The only thing lacking here is a great view of the city. Came here recently for date night and just fell in love with the casual fine dining atmosphere. White table cloths and perfect service, without being pretentious or snooty at all. Great food! We started with a half-dozen iced pacific oysters and gnocchi. Both were very savory and delicious. For dinner I had the bacon wrapped rabbit and my date had the beef tenderloin. Although my rabbit was pretty small portions, it was enough to fill me up and tasted incredible. The beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection and was wonderful too! Our cocktails were great and the server was excited to help us find new flavors to try. He even went in the back to google the proper description of an ingredient used in one of the drinks. I can't wait to return to try out the happy hour!

The food is boring and overpriced. The circa 2007 lounge music is depressing me. The drinks are good. Service is friendly. Overall it's a dated blah place not worth visiting.

Long time, first time...Wife and I were here last night, had a great experience, great staff, a cool venue and vibe. Happy hour apps were very good, I had the burger too, yum! Really happy we went, will be back for sure... Also, I'm sure BH is very deserving of a 5 star if we had dinner here but it will be some time before we can do this as they are on the pricey side for entrees...

So, my friend called me up and wanted someplace sheik for his wife's birthday and I turned to handy dandy Yelp for suggestions. After researching and getting a few suggestions from other foodies, I finally settled on BlueHour. We met there, party of seven and began our BlueHour adventure. Let me just start by saying that the space is very pretty, dimly lit by tiny lights hanging from branches above your heads and serene. There is a small sitting area as you walk in and a tiny bar in the back. It isn't a huge space but small and intimate. We were seated right away and ordered a few drinks as we looked over the menu. A couple of us ordered a few salads, there entrees consisted of NY steak, a couple options for fish, lamb and chicken-so something for all except our veggie friends. No big deal, we are all meat eaters at the table-but good to know if your not a carnivore. There are quite a few salads to choose from-the gnocci looking really tasty! I had the cod which was perfectly cooked and was served with beluga lentils-YUM! The service was good but the there were a few things that kept this from an outstanding visit. First, they ran out of steak. I find this a little unusual that they ran out seeing that it was a Saturday night. Our server mentioned that they had quite a few more people come in than expected but that was pretty disappointing for some folks in our group. Our food took quite some time to come out, don't get me wrong, I understand that good dining is about the experience and not how quickly the food comes out but this was extraordinarily long. A few of my table mates started to mention the time and seeing I'm the one that suggested and coordinated the dinner, I began to get antsy. Our server must've seen it because she came by right away and apologized and offered us a few desserts because of our wait. That was very thoughtful. Overall, a nice experience but with so many lovely restaurants in Portland, I don't know if BlueHour will be one of my go-tos. A solid 3.5 stars but nothing to make it stand out.

Just had a really great time. The server really knew about his wine and we ordered a recommended bottle that didn't disappoint. I also requested a very fruity martini and I tried this blood orange drink that was delicious. We also had the tasting menu for dinner so we got to try 6 different dishes. Out of the 6; 2 were exceptional, 2 were okay and 2 were bland/unmemorable. So overall it was pretty average. I especially enjoyed the salmon dish with the roe and the dungeouness crab dish with mushrooms. The okay dishes were the lamb for it was a bit rare for our liking (we have a medium rare preference but it was still tasty with the sauce and paired with the wine) and the dessert was good, but slightly rich (we are the cheesecake kind of sweet for preference). Overall the presentation of the dishes were great. They were knowledgeable in what they were serving and very attentive. For two dinners, bottle of wine and two martinis it came out to be about $240 without tip and it left us satisfied. We had reservations 5:30pm on a Friday night and was slightly late by 10 minutes and had no problem being seated.

Ambiance is great! The food was really lacking. Not many choices in entrees, appetizers were SMALL SMALL SMALL. The cheese plate had some great cheeses...just a taste of each. I would not eat here again.

Overall the experience was fantastic. My wife and I visited Bluehour to celebrate our 16th anniversary last night. We made reservations in advance, and were seated immediately upon arrival. The meal started with complimentary sparkling wine, which was a nice touch. We both enjoyed a cocktail with our oyster appetizers, she had the Snap Dragon and I had a French 75. The drinks were great but the Snap Dragon was excellent, I'd go back just for this drink! For the main course we had the smoked duck breast and the halibut. Everything was executed perfectly. We finished the meal by sharing the cheesecake which was a delicious end to the meal. For our visit the wait staff was attentive, the bar created wonderful cocktails, and the kitchen put out fantastic food throughout the night. Needless to say we'll be back.

I only had bar menu at this place and I already know that this place has great chef and food. Had a cocktail called Perfect Pear and ordered a burger, a pizza, and a fried chicken. The cocktail was little underwhelming - not strong and very small portion - but the food was quite delicious. Pizza was a OK but the fried chicken with pickled cucumber and mustard sauce, and the burger was great. However, if you want more bang for buck, you want the burger. Looks nothing special compared to that of Yakuza but still has a great bun and a juicy patty that is soft and flavorful the moment it goes in your mouth. The mustard sauce for the chicken is little hot but it complements the salty, savory flavor of the fried chicken very well. The chef from Clarklewis had been hired couple weeks ago and he told us that he is in the process of rebuilding the menu both for the restaurant and the bar. From what I have seen today, I would love to come back here and try more dishes.

I really enjoy going to restaurants on this street and this was the first one I went to bluehour for dinner. I loved the ambiance with the twinkle light tree in the middle of the restaurant and white linen tablecloths. The waitstaff were also very friendly and attentive. However I felt the food was too hit and miss for the pricing. The appetizers were really tasty and beautifully plated. The sweet, salty, and savory combo in the foie gras dish was on point! However I found the duck main to be to sweet and over cooked. So when I go back I will likely stick to the drinks and appetizers.

We got there at 6:15 Tuesday night im assuming the male manager sat us in the dining area I asked for the happy hour menu and he looked at he's watch mind you their happy hour ends at 6:30 and condescending way well you can't even get happy hour in the diving area. It left such a mad taste in my mouth our server was a young gentlemen and he was very nice so it changed the mood but we decided to just order a drink and a salad and go to another place and really enjoy ourselves! We decided on Piattino down the street which was incredible and very warm and more romantic!! Overall food was good and server was great but the snooty manager was a definite fail. As one restaurant manager to another the appropriate response would be yes we do but it's not in the dinning area would you mind sitting in the lounge! It wasn't about the money it was because they had items on the happy hour menu that I wanted to try that wasn't on the regular menu!

Went for a birthday party Saturday night, with a prix fixed menu including wine pairings. The food was good, but they didnt start serving for 1 1/2 hrs after our reservation. I know some of our party were late, but they could of least brought out some bread. Half of our group ordered additional drinks, and the other half stayed with the wine pairings. When we received our individual tabs, they divided everything equally. Why should I pay for someone else's drinks? We discussed it with management, they credited our tabs for $4.00. What a joke! My bill still came to $175.00. When spending that amount of money, we should treated better than that. I will never go back to Bluehour, there are too many amazing restaurants in Portland. P.S. Not every customer has corporate money to spend.

My fiancé and I dined at Bluehour last night for our anniversary and dining experience was near exceptional. We were served complimentary sparking wine when I requested a romantic table for our celebration. I ordered the Bootsy Collins which was an excellent cocktail, matched by the wonderful cheese selection that followed. The seasonal menu was outstanding - I had the salmon and was impressed! The mood of Bluehour is truly unique - the curtains and the paneling make for a one of a kind atmosphere. Very impressed by the chef and the courteous staff. The only criticism I have is how rarely our waiter checked up on us although that hardly holds a candle to the rest of our experience. Can't wait to return and try the 3 course meal.

I see "swanky" to describe this restaurant in many of the Yelp reviews. And, if that means overpriced, ala cart, dining experience after which you walk out hungry...This is it! I had one of the "dinner sized" crab pasta dishes and it was pretty good, but the size of a deck of cards. My four other dinner partners enjoyed the duck, lamb and halibut entrées with a glass of house wine and after I paid the $250 bill we went out for a sandwich!

Had a nice HH small meal here. It's 4-6 pm, and few discounted drinks. Tried a basil gimlet, a Moscow Mule, some marconas, duck confit spring rolls, fries (excellent), and did not break the bank. Chill in here....seriously. Bit on the dated side, as this erstwhile "it" spot, it's now eclipsed by so many newcomers, but I dig it! Thin cousin separates the bar from dining room. Take eat at small table, bar, or booth!! SE corner of 13/Davis

Found blue hour by walking by, it was in my friends pdx happy hour list. $20 for a bottle of cava and $3 for a minuscule panna cotta. Wow, not in California any more. Lots of inexpensive options. Thanks! The $15 halibut looked delish and not puny. That's what I'd have ordered.

Not sure how you could rate Bluehour less than 4 stars. Great location, very attractive, superb service and excellent food and drinks. The staff at Bluehour are very professional, clean and most of all, they pay attenton to detail. The food was fantastic as expected. I thoroughly enjoyed the cheese platter and the romaine heats salad with it's pine nuts and salty anchovy dressing. My main dish was the lamb loin, cooked medium-rare, super tender and savory. I highly reccommend Bluehour if your looking for a palate pleasing experience and fine service. Not a place for kids.

I just want to start off by saying that the food is fantastic and the Happy Hour menu is cheap and satisfying. The place is nice, busy, and clean. What ruined it for us was our server. The entire group left pissed off. This is a service rating. We had a 16-top on July 12th for my girlfriend's birthday. It started off just fine, with one person covering our table. I can't remember the server's name (I will update this with it when my friend lets me know), but he was an #@*hole. He asked us to stay in our specific seats for convenience in splitting the checks. I'm a server, I understand this but I don't ask my tables to do this... that's just selfish... let the customer do what makes them happy... it's a freaking birthday, people want to say hello and take pictures with each other. Keeping track is NOT hard to do (if you read this, Mr. Server, here's some advice): 1) In the beginning, draw some simple lines in your book. 2) Abbreviate the order in each box corresponding to the guest's seat. 3) Ask if their check is separate or together with somebody. a) If the check is separate... assign them a number in the seat-box. b) If they are with others, assign those people identical numbers. 4) When the table looks finished, address the table about issuing checks. 5) Reap gratuity benefits. Everybody kept to their specific seating arrangement except for two people. Right away he goes to get the check, drops it split for like 3 people and leaves the remaining $86 for the rest to figure out and saying he can't do it. This server then proceeds to ARGUE with me over it, because I'm sitting there numbering everybody's order (doing his job). He starts snapping at me about how all these (imaginary, mind you) people were "switching spots all over the place, wah wah wah, cry cry cry".... this is simply untrue... TWO people swapped seats. Then, one of our guests attempts to get the servers attention for a glass of wine and he storms passed her, blatantly ignoring her. These are the reasons, Mr. Server, why you get stiffed. I think the server was just a big cry-baby. This was a temper-tantrum being thrown by a grown man. We will not be visiting this place again. There are plenty of restaurants in Portland with great food and much better service.

We were there for NYE and had the most amazing time. The food was a delight and so was the ambience! I would highly recommend this restaurant for a nice treat for yourself. It's also a great place to bring visiting family and friends!

Stopped here for happy hour while visiting Portland. Cozy, romantic atmosphere and well priced drinks + bites. The deviled eggs were delicious, but the fried chicken and the potatoes were just ok (lacking salt).

We went there for my Husband's work Christmas dinner. The staff there was great and the food was good. I do wish that they have better valet parking. It took us awhile to get anyone to help us. When we did, they told us we couldn't wait near the corner and was told that we had to park our car on the side till the valet attendant comes. We gave our keys to the hostess and told her where we had parked and went to dinner. When the dinner was done, the manager told us our car got a parking ticket because we were parked in a no parking area. Wished the hostess would've told us that cause we would've moved our car.

Mothers Day brunch: ignored by server? Check. Pretentious menu? Check? Wait an hour for food after ordering? Check. Food cold? Check. Suggest they, and you, stick to drinks only. Management can't seem to handle food service.

This review is only for the bar... I haven't gotten an actual meal here yet, as the cocktails seem to demand all of my attention. But I digress. The bar is fantastic! We wanted great cocktails on Valentine's Day night, so we went here on a snap decision. The drinks are topnotch and expertly crafted (I'm looking at you, Bootsey Collins), and both of the bartenders were very friendly and talkative despite being extremely busy that night. There was some sort of drink mix-up between a waiter and a bartender, which was entertaining to watch and resulted in a random drink being given to us for free (awesome!). They even split it into two glasses for us without us asking. Then we ordered a tiny bowl of olives and one of almonds, which took a half hour to get to us, but were definitely worth the two glasses of rose we received for having to wait. In short, we got a total of three surprise free drinks that night. Not one, not two, but THREE. On Valentine's Day no less. I would give five stars anyway for the quality of our beverages, the friendly bar service, and the ambiance, but there is nothing like apology drinks to cement my patronage of this fine establishment.

I had Bluehour Plate Special for lunch, and it was very good. I think $18 is very good value for a decent three-course meal (soup, main dish, and dessert) in a nice restaurant. The main dish was razor clam and a bit chewy, but maybe that's how razor clam should be. The dessert was especially good (chocolate mousse torte with chantilly cream).

Perhaps coming originally from NYC I am somewhat jaded regarding quality of service, but Blue Hour, for all its "big city" pretensions, is amateur hour when it comes to the quality of the wait staff we experienced on our last (and final) visit. We had to pour our own wine, make two requests for bread, and one entree was simply the wrong order. At $360 for 5 people, this is simply unacceptable. There are lots of great restaurants in town with great service at half the price. Too bad as the place is lovely.

Surprised I don't have a review written about this place yet.. I've been here four times - the first for a fancy work dinner, the second for lunch, third for happy hour, and again for happy hour. I definitely recommend happy hour as your best option - the dinner portions were beautiful but not memorable (I think I got a halibut when I came for dinner, and then got halibut the next night at Irving Street kitchen which was far more memorable and delicious). When we came most recently for happy hour, everything on the menu was affordable and delicious. It's a totally differen menu than when we came over winter. $20 bottles of really decent wine (we had both cava and white - both really a great value) - and the food was really legit. Lunch is crazy expensive (who comes here for lunch? $17 for a chicken salad? Really? Better be the best damn chicken salad I've ever had...and it wasn't. Overall I think a great value happy hour but the service is snooty and the chairs in the bar aren't super comfortable. I don't think our service smiled at us once the entire time we were there and preemptively dropped our bill off before we had to politely tell him we actually wanted another round of drinks and dessert...I mean, at a nice place, I expect better service than that, right? Definitely recommend the bruschetta on the HH menu!

Full disclosure - I have the biggest crush on Joe and Bruce who own this place. However, when it comes to food I do not discriminate. If it's great it's great. If it sucks it's sucks. So here we go! I met a friend I hadn't seen in a very long time for lunch, so I was giddy with anticipation. (I also take clients to this place because it's just a neat place to meet). The host and wait staff were as always lovely. I really enjoy the service. The owners happened to be in the restaurant at the time and what I love about this place is that everyone goes about their business and there isn't any of that "OMG the owners are here, let's be phony nice kind of crap" The employees are genuine. I ordered a the Nicoise (sp) Salad and a bowl of lovely white bean soup. I also ordered a cheese plate to share and for dessert a Caramelized Pineapple Tart. (Chamomile pastry cream rose hip ice cream, pistachio) Now before you say ewwww that's weird, keep an open mind, this dessert is lovely lovely lovely. A few things about BH - their décor is beginning to get a little tired. They have been around a long time and you can see things are starting to show a bit of wear. In the evening it doesn't really matter because of the lighting but during the day when things are much brighter you can see that the atmosphere could use a little sprucing. The lack of parking in down town PDX is just a pain in the butt but that's not their fault. I keep going back to BH because it's a great place to take business client, and friends. I always feel good going there.

We came to visit Portland and decided to dine here. We had a great dinner with great service in a beautiful setting! The black cod was outstanding and Cesar salad before that very enjoyable as well. I would come back for sure on our next visit to PDX!

Service was excellent and attentive. Knowledgable about the menu. Started with assortment of cheeses and oysters. Moved on to the beet and citrus salad, soooo good! Chicken external moist with lots of flavor. Great spot for a girls night or even an intimate date. Loved the atmosphere and ambience. Def will go back.

If you're in portland cuz you relocated from LA, this is where you meet the old directors out with young starlets. Looked like the basic cocktails were $10, which was fine for a nice place. Staff was nice, though I didn't appreciate the sneaky upsale ("I'll have a basic margarita" "you wanna make that silver?" "Sure, why not") on the cocktail that increased the price 50%, I should have known better. This place is way "tres chic" for the Ken and Barbie crowd, so I guess in PDX that means they're trying something different? In this case, different was not so good. Had my surprise $15 basic marg. and left.

Dreadful service, overworked and shellshocked staff, mediocre food, overpriced drinks, and a general sense of trendiness over substance (a room dotted with bovine lawyers and their idiot model girlfriends braying at each other and playing "who's the top dog" with other tables)....just a grotesque Pearl District experience. Go to Roe instead, Bluehour is long overdue for closure and has not aged well...much like the divorced cougars at the bar during happy hour.

The location is fantastic. The decor is lovely. It's one of the trendiest places in town. I really, really wanted to love Blue Hour. But there is something to be said for a personable server, and a delicious plate of food, and I just can't say that either were worthy of more than 3 stars. Our server was, well, snooty. I get that you work in an upscale restaurant, but I've been in plenty of nice places around town in which our server was down to earth and truly made dining an enjoyable experience. Including establishments owned by the same restaurant group. This guy had the opposite effect, ostensibly sucking the fun out of every exchange. I'll forgive the restaurant a bit, as this could have been a fluke, but alas it's my only frame of reference. The food left us wanting more. The salad I got wasn't memorable (the contents of which escape me altogether at this exact moment). The chicken with the teeny tiny portion of potatoes and veggies was good, but not $30 good. A couple of the people I was with ordered the steak, which they both agreed was a bit on the tough side. My experience in one word: Underwhelmed...sigh.

Ambiance is romantic, food was good- service as a whole was outstanding. We are from California where foie gras is banned. I HAD to have SEARED foie gras so we made a note with our reservation that we were coming just for it. They had only one order left by 6pm- our reservation was at 10- and they called me to let me know! Who does that? People who take pride in their service. They offered to save it for me...so 3 stars for that alone. 5 stars for that actually. Hostess knew they had it saved for us, waited knew they had it for us, water glass was kept full, napkin re-folded each time someone got up from the table.... just to give some examples. Thank you Bluehour staff. You MADE my trip to Portland

Here's the deal - my dinner and dessert were freakin' awesome. But I won't be returning because they have made a horrible ethics mistake as to what they put on their menu. Corn tortellini with mascarpone was especially luscious. HOWEVER - incredibly chintzy on the portions - literally 10 bites of tortellini, exacerbated by being on a massive massive plate. Poor li'l tortellinis! Literally, a dollar a bite. Dessert was incredible - huckleberry yuzu pave with basil ice cream was like nothing I've ever tasted. Dreamy. However, the waiter was an amateur - not something you want when you're spending major $, didn't know the menu all that well, and wasn't terribly personable (cute doesn't win me over, personality does, y'all). The maitre'd - fantastic, great personality, follow-through at the end. But the sticking point for me? I learned from the menu that they serve foie gras, the most vicious and inhumane of practices towards animals, a practice many states have made illegal. This is so horrendous - we didn't end up having a full dinner because of it. So Bluehour? You suck.

We have only been here for happy hour but I'd like to come back and try dinner (the happy hour is good enough it's going to be hard to pass that by!). Happy hour here is one of my favorites in Portland. They have good cocktails, excellent wine (limited choices but the choices are good, so who cares?), and actual food they've taken the trouble to prepare well. We met some folks who were there for dinner and said it was one of their favorite places. The server was gracious and the place is very nice looking. It's a bit chilly by the door, but it's comfy warm at the bar. The first time we went, the spouse read some negative reviews on Yelp and tried to talk me out of trying it, but we were both pleased and will return.

Came here on Saturday night with a couple of friends. Great atmosphere and even better service here. The cocktails are off the charts good. We also had a dozen oysters and I have to say, although this isn't a seafood restaurant, these were probably the best I've had anywhere. We had a couple of pasta dishes and my friend had the Halibut. All were solid although he did think the Halibut was slightly overcooked. Finished off dinner with a couple of desserts, the Tres leeches cake and a small scoop of pomegranate ice cream. I could have eaten two orders of the cake...it was that good!

P.S. We took a friend visiting from the Bay Area last Friday - 3 Oct 2014. All was A+, particularly the best of show, best in town, lamb chops. Highest recommendation for this menu item. Hope Blue Hour makes it a regular item. The chops were perfectly prepared. Each *chop* consisted of 2 ribs from a rack of lamb. Very good Portland establishment in the heart of the Pearl District. My wife and I have often had brunch here on Sunday. We've also hosted *Cocktail Therapy* on multiple occasions for friends who work nearby. On Thanksgiving we arrived back in Portland about 5:45 after flying most of the day from Boston. Not much is open then, and most of the places that are serve some limited turkey dinner menu. But not Blue Hour. We were delighted and thankful to sneak in and get a table for two at 6p.m.. Excellent cocktails and wine to accompany a thoughtful menu that had ample, ample choices. I had black cod and my wife had lamb shank - both delish. Also, every experience we've had at Blue Hour has included excellent service. Hats off to Blue Hour!

I've been here with my family on numerous occasions, and each time is as good as the last. The food, atmosphere, & service are great! Next time you are in the Pearl, give it a try! You will be very happy that you did.

We went for happy hour. The service was good but they stuck us near the door--brrr. My beet soup was bland and fish slider inedible. My husband's burger was dry but otherwise good. I'm guessing a regular dinner experience would be better? The atmosphere is nice.

Wanted to love this place after hearing the buzz, not sure it went to their head. Made a reservation for a table, and being 5 minutes late they gave it away and had to eat at the bar, when really wanted a table. Liked 1/2 the dishes I ordered, the others not so much. likely would not go back without good reason.

We got to Bluehour at 7 on a Saturday night, and the place was packed! We didn't have a reservation until 8, but the hostess found a space for us at the chef's table, which was really nice. Despite a couple small issues with the service (like flagging down the bread guy or having our plates partially cleared while we were still eating), the food was mostly excellent. We had a salad, brussel sprouts, duck, halibut, and tagliatelle with chanterelles. Everything was delicious, especially the tagliatelle (although I make better brussel sprouts at home. Just saying.) It was definitely a classy place, and I'd recommend it for a special occasion, especially if you can come later in the night for the second seating (and then maybe feel a little less rushed).

My wife and I took advantage of the $25 per person special for a 3 course meal for Portland dining month. Great service and food was good but did not blow me away. . We will be back to try some food off their regular menu and maybe I will change the ratings upwards.

I came here for lunch with a friend yesterday, and it was pretty empty. Must be because lunches run around $15 per plate on average. We were recommended the chicken salad and the burger, so decided to get the chicken salad and the crab cake sandwich to share. They were great in splitting up the meal for us so we didn't have to try to split everything in half by ourselves. The crab cake sandwich was delicious! The salad was surprisingly much better than expected. The chicken was moist, there was sweet corn in the salad--the flavors went well together. I have to say, my biggest grip was probably the squishy tables--it's really easy for your glass of water to tip and spill all over your lap. If you happen to be graceful about spills (as my dining partner was), it will take the waitstaff a few minutes to come by with a bread basket before they notice you're soaking wet. Just saying. Good food, a little on the spendy side.

Review is for happy hour only - probably one of the best quality food happy hours I've been to in a long time. Bill was a mere $23 ($30 w tip) for a martini and an assortment of happy hour food, and I left completely stuffed w a nice buzz :) Happy hour is mon-sat I believe 5pm-6:30 and they have a really good selection of super cheap food specials. Some decent drink specials as well, I opted for a $9 perfect pear martini -vodka, pear brandy, lime, orange. The brandy and lime were the predominant flavors, and I had a good buzz off just half a drink, so well worth it. Ordered the following food specials: breaded and fried crispy oyster (1), served over horseradish aioli topped w salsa $2, grilled lamb sandwich $4 (a lamb slider on ciabatta), artisanal cheese plate w chefs choice (slice of creamy French sheep's milk cheese) $4, house made spaghetti w wild mushrooms and guanciale (like pancetta) $5. Everything was of course a smaller than usual portion, but that's exactly what I wanted so I could try more things. Everything was made from high quality ingredients and put together with care. I always appreciate places that put as much thought and effort into cheap happy hour specials as they do with full priced orders. Although spaghetti was definitely the highlight, the noodles were a little too al dente for me, leaning more toward hard/undercooked, but perfect portion and flavors were spot on. Nice assortment of wild mushrooms with just enough pancetta and sauce, topped with freshly grated parmesan. Lamb slider was a close 2nd - juicy and cooked medium with crispy toasted ciabatta bun and some kind of fruit chutney or salsa. Oyster was small but perfect, cheese plate was my least favorite - I wasn't feeling that cheese, but it was still a decent deal at $4. The house cured meat plate I saw on another table looked awesome. Happy hour is at the bar and on the outside patio. Weather is perfect for hanging outside, but staring at the empty bldg next door wasnt much of a view. Service was relatively quick, nice friendly server. I will likely go back since the area has some cute shops. Parking was ok, the pay street parking was limited to an hour, so I parked in the garage across the street. $5 for 5p-1a but make sure you get there after 5. I got there literally at 4:58 and ended up paying more. Street parking is free after 7p and there's free parking at the organizational store across 14th. I think wholefoods also validates with purchase, for some reason I blanked on asking bluehour if they validate too.

Dined at Bluehour last night with our family of four and a friend, to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday. Overall, it was a mediocre experience. Service was extremely slow the entire time. The waiter addressed all of the four women at the table as "Madam" - highly inappropriate since that term is overly formal and awkward, usually used for older women or the owner of a brothel (ahem). My 14-year old daughter in particular thought it was peculiar. The entree food portions were small, with the exception of the generous half-orders of pasta ordered by two in our party. The entrees were not prepared properly - the pasta in one of the pasta dishes was not cooked enough, not even to the al dente stage, the duck was tough, the gnocci had a glazed and hard look to it since it had clearly lingered under the warming light too long. What did we like? The young woman handling coats and serving water was efficient and had a nice smile; the cocktails were delicious; the twinkly branches overhead lend a festive air, and... hmm, can't think of another positive. I have eaten there several times before and have enjoyed cocktails at happy hour there many times. However, after last night's lukewarm performance, I won't be going back to Bluehour.

Really nice experience,. We had originally booked at Andina, However when we arrived there were several corporate events taking place and we knew we were not going to be happy. We walked down the street to Blur-hour and they were gracious enough to accommodate us with no reservation.nI hadn't been here for awhile so had forgotten how pleasant it can be. We ordered a bottle of the Argyle 2009, Blanc de Blanc, lovely and a great pairing for the seared Foie Gras and Tartare. We shared the Gnocchi with lamb ragout and the tenderloin, I have to say that the main course was the least successful. whatever the reason it was very very spicy, your mouth was in a constant burn mode. The side was very tasty though. We ended with the pear sorbet, very refreshing. An overall great last night in Portland with very nice and accommodating wait staff and a knowledgeable Sommelier.

Not to sound cliche, but this is the place to see and be seen. It's where celebrity sightings take place. If you're into that kind of thing (which I totally am!!) . I can't speak for the food, because I've only been here for happy hour and can't remember what I ordered except their personal pizza (which was good but not one of their trademark dishes). What I do remember is the decor, the service, the ambiance and the awesome pink tequila drink I had there last. I think it's called an "Envy". All I know for sure is that is was a sorrel plant muddled with tequila and it was sweet. I loved the fact that it didn't have the extra calories of soda pop and tasted much better than sipping on tequila on ice. I've had many, many other drinks here, including a coffee martini with an espresso bean on top...all of which are good. The reason my friends and I will continue coming back is the outdoor patio in front near the entrance. I'm all about eating and drinking outdoors, even in the winter (I'm a true Oregonian), just not without a patio umbrella and heat lamp, which Blue hour provides. For people that don't like to circle around looking for parking they have valet service. For me, I'm all about the flowing white curtains and art deco lighting. If I am going to pay $9 for a drink, I want to have something pretty to look at and Blue Hour definitely provides plenty of that!

Bluehour is a bit of a strange beast to me. Were I only dining here once I would say that it would get 3.5-4 stars. However, having dined here regularly for close to 6 years now, I give it five. Over time the place grows on you. Beautiful setting, seasonal menu, and incredible staff. I have had the chance to dine with the chefs, have a specific waiter I request when I go (David, who is incredible by the way!), and have never been disappointed. The food is executed flawlessly, in portions that are just enough to leave you content without feeling overwhelmed. And I cannot stress enough that you must always have a dessert. The desserts are made fresh, and pair flawlessly with the menu. These little details, from the way that the menu naturally flows, to the seasonal decor matching the seasonal menu, are easily overlooked on a one time visit. After you dine here regularly, get a rapport with the staff, and notice how excellently they have formed the experience, you will understand why it receives 5 stars. Easily my favorite place to dine, in all of Portland.

I really want to make this a 4* review some day. I really want to. There is potential. It's funny how conflicted I feel over 3* reviews - 1* reviews have earned every bad word related to them, but 3* restaurants...you know they at least brought something to the table, no pun intended. So, Bluehour, please help me build this to a 4* moving forward. In the past week, I have been to Bluehour twice. Once once did I actually pay the tab. Why? Well, because the other time I sat there for so long without service that I finally left. Never even got to order. Never spoke to a waitperson, because one never approached my table. That was horrible service, especially for a restaurant that is in the reinvention process. And how do I know this? Because earlier this month, I went to lunch with my attorney, who happens to know just about everyone in Portland. And we spoke with the maitre d', who gave us some insight on what has changed in recent months. We had an exceptional lunch and service, and I was delighted that perhaps my former experiences - oh, say, most of the 2000 decade, were a thing of the past and I could like Bluehour again. But then, the horrible service last week...followed by a Happy Hour yesterday with a divine cocktail. So, I don't know. That lunch was pretty exceptional. But the rest...I hope they can standardize on the experience we had at lunch - and that it wasn't just because of my celebrity attorney... I guess we'll have to see. Considering my livelihood is now based on reviewing businesses, I will be keeping an eye on what happens...

I finally got a chance to go back since our Yelp event last year. We dropped in last evening, after making reservations via Open Table. I highly recommend the website if you have not used it. As always parking in the Pearl district is a challenge but we managed to find a spot just a mere couple of blocks away. We started by waiting in the bar for the other couple we were meeting. Their service in the bar was quick and friendly. The only thing I didn't get that I would have liked to have had was a napkin as I had ordered an appetizer of French fries and they were a little greasy so that would have been handy. We moved into the dining room and they were quick and attentive. The made sure everything was attended to without being intrusive. Very professional staff. We enjoyed all the courses of the meal and were too full for dessert perhaps next time. A real enjoyable time and great atmosphere. I will definitely be back.

We went to dinner here on our first night in our new favorite city, Portland, and what a treat. Our server Jacob was great, we shared some small plates and they separated it for us. Highly recommend this place if you want to spend 3 hours just relaxing and savoring the food!

Over priced and over hyped. Tried this place twice and was ok, but so many other great places in the pearl district. Service was timely but on both visits no personality. I was not wearing my Gucci shoes and $500 jeans. Would not make a return visit. It is 2 stars and that's being generous in this review. Good people watching.

We went in for Portland Dining Month because their menu looked pretty good. We made a reservation for 6:30 and were seated promptly. It seemed like there were several layers of service staff - the young man who filled our water and brought clean siliverware, bread, and cleared plates; the man in a suit who brought the amusee; the man who brought our cheese course; and our main waiter. I thought it was interesting all the service staff seemed to be men except the hostesses. But I digress... I was with my partner and we each ordered a glass of the pinot gris at $10/glass. The wine was crisp and light at a great price. We decided to start with a cheese course and ordered three for $16: a cow's milk, goat milk, and sheep milk. The cheese plate came with sliced apples, a few almonds, a few granola-type nuggets, and sliced baguette. We were so pleased with the cheeses we selected! The first course of our meal was a beet salad with pickled carrots, arugula, and cheese. The beets were golden and red and were fresh and tasty. The next course was a short rib on polenta with greens (kale, I think). It took a while for the entree to get to us but it was well worth the wait. I got a cup of decaf with the dessert course - a delicious chocolate semifredo with a quenelle of cream, a little citrus shortbread cookie, a little chocolate macaroom, and a small web of spun sugar. The meal was perfect - filling, rich, and delicious. I have to tip my hat to our server, Kris. He was a busy guy, running all over the place, taking care of a number of different sized parties. At one point I asked him which cheeses we had ordered and he made a point to go get the cheese menu to tell us the names and regions of the cheese. Just really good, thoughtful service. We had such a wonderful experience at Bluehour!

White table cloth and in obstructive service, makes this place great for business meeting at lunch and wonderful date at night. Somewhat limited menu allows for perfectly executed dish. Great ambiance in dining room with tall ceilings and tables that are not on top of each other.

I even counted to 10 before posting this. THE SKINNY: A Menu without anything original, Food without flavor, and a kitchen that can't produce food on time. I went during happy hour and sat at the bar, so maybe. Their restaurant side is better, but I won't be trying it. DRINKS: when I asked the bar tender for something stiff with gin, after telling him that I didn't want something sweet, he made me a champagne drink. Clearly they don't know how to mix flavors or tailor to the explicit instructions of a customer. SERVICE: My appetizer arrived after my main. Really? Need I say more? The barman did offer to comp me the meal when I complained but still unacceptable. FOOD : The wild mushroom pasta was so tame, it was domesticated. The absence of salt, flavor, and sadly, even mushrooms, made the dish such a waste of calories that I sent it back after 3 bites.

This was a great dining experience. For me, a special occasion kind of place. For example, during the course of our meal, a man asked his girlfriend to marry him, she said yes, and the whole restaurant applauded. Definitely special occasion status. The scallops were cooked to perfection, which is not an easy feat. The service was excellent, and I have so say, I really loved the ambiance. Will definitely be going back when it's time for another very special meal.

Beautiful design and environment. Our server didn't care much about our experience, and was very short when answering questions about the menu. Portions are ridiculously small, and the flavors were flat. Gnocchi was ok. I won't return.

It was just ok. There was nothing that really stood out. The prices were pretty high. My husband got a salad with three apricots, 4 pieces of lettuce and a pile of cheese in the middle and it was $15.

I first went here for a Yelp event after I arrived in Portland. My impression then, and now, is "This reminds me of restaurants in Manhattan." In that it's trendy, the food is innovative, but all the chic qualities seem... manufactured and shallow, and everything is overpriced. My s.o. raved about the food, but I'd hoped for something less trying-too-hard. If you're into the see-and-be-seen scene, I recommend skipping the fine dining part of the restaurant, and just going to the bar. The bar menu, and atmosphere, is more appealing (to me at least).

While I have not dined at Bluehour for pleasure I have held several dinner meetings in their private dining room. As recently as the 9/3 and another one hopefully 10/15. Each one has been better than the last, both the food and the service is incredible. This is definitly the place to hold your next dinner meeting!

Just had a fantastic date night at Bluehour. Still one of my favorites in PDX. We shared the following: kumamoto & netart oysters beef tartar gnochi with morels rack of lamb Our server Chris was great and the formegier (sp?) helped us pick out some fantastic cheeses for the final course. Top notch all the way around!

Had lunch in this open dining room with five others. Salads and light meals were excellent. Prompt attention from the waitstaff, fresh ingredients, water, tea, and wine were filled, and overall, a great experience. I recommend the cob or the salad nicoise--they were both excellent. I've heard mixed reviews about their dinner/bar menu/service.

I actually wanted to give no star for this place, but bartender was nice so a star for a bartender. Who do they think they are??? Just okay food for price of New York or San Francisco is completely insulting. You are in Oregon. Let's get it straight here. People would definitely come here for 1-5 dollar happy hour, but not for the food for sure if you know what good food is. Menu was really dull and perhaps trying to hard. Staff were really slow( I mean, really slow), Manager didn't seem to care about anything, he just walked back and forth between bar and the kitchen. Dining room was empty maybe 10 people dining. I made a reservation and me and my partner left after we read the menu. not to mention my partner is 2 times james beard wining chef!! Couple of advise I have for this place is make a really good simple food that has good flavor with lower price point, let your wait staff and managers to smile more, and be friendly to clients.Oregonians are different. They have money, but they won't spend money on stupid, pretentious, and over priced menu. Good luck bluehour!

Grab your Manolo Blahniks and flashy 'decorations', my friends. Despite the 'trite' thrash this place gets, it's perfect for people watching (amazing!). The crowd is surely a sight to see - the fellas tend to sport three piece pinstripe mafia suits and the ladies are dripping in ice and made of silicon. I try to take out of town visitors here to start off the evening and introduce them to their scrumptious Tijuana Speedball (it's a must try!) If you have tolerance for the pearl district folk and appreciate a great cocktail, give it a try.

I went to Bluehour about a year and a half ago on my first visit to Portland. I had done some research and a lot of it was pointing to the up and coming dining scene in the Pearl District. Bluehour did not disappoint. My memory is not a bit faded, but my palette remembers a good meal. My dining partner and I started with a cheese plate and they have many artisanal choices. There was definitely a blue on there and I'm sure I would have ordered some kind of triple cream. We then moved on to our main courses. I ordered the gnocchi and they were light and pillowy, the test of a truly good pasta maker in the back. They sat in a light cream sauce and were served with what I am remembering as some kind of broccoli rabe. My dining partner ordered the halibut and it was perfectly seared with that golden crust and completely moist and tender inside. The bar area actually looked quite inviting and I think the next time I take a trip to Portland I will stop there and then try something different for dinner in the area....Any suggestions?

This place seems to be the default place to go for coolio loungey good food people-watching. ie If you're single and/or you like loungey clubs, you'd probably go here for preparty drinks or dinner. Or actually lots of big-group dinner parties as well... And a nice, inexpensive late night bar menu..

TLDR: Atrociously understaffed, bad steak. It was a mistake to try to go on a Friday night, I suppose. Naturally there was no parking anywhere in the vicinity of the restaurant, and even the garages were full, so we thought we'd just use Bluehour's valet service. Good plan, but... WAS there a valet? After standing around outside for five minutes, I decided to go in and ask the host if there's a valet on duty. Good plan, but... WAS there a host? After standing around inside for another five minutes, someone actually approaches to speak with me. He informs me that there is only one valet tonight, so he must be out parking a car. I go back out to convey this information. My husband waits for the valet while I go inside to get our table. Although I'd just seen the host moments before, he has now disappeared into the cavernous interior of the restaurant, and so I stand around for another five minutes as other hopeful customers wander in and situate themselves directly in front of me. Their boldness gains them nothing... no one is here to seat us. The host is moving from table to table, no doubt entertaining the diners with charming and witty conversation, but never looks toward the entry. Finally a woman I haven't seen before appears and begins to seat us. After another ten minutes or so, my husband finally joins me and we think the hard part is over, time to relax and enjoy a meal. The appetizers were okay. I liked the chilled tomato soup, although I'd have preferred a genuine gazpacho. My husband didn't care for the salmon in his salmon tartare - even though finely chopped, it was clearly not a choice cut of fish, and still a bit stringy. We both got the steak entree, a grilled ribeye. This was our biggest mistake -- or Bluehour's, really. It was the worst steak I've had in a long time, just a terrible piece of meat. It was dense, gristly, yet remarkably bland and flavorless. I'm sure the cow had a fine pedigree, but it did no good. I've had better steaks from Safeway. The understaffing did not stop at the door, judging from how long it took our food to arrive. I enjoy spending two hours on a meal when there are several courses to go through, but it was a lot of time to lose over an appetizer, entree, and two glasses of wine. This wouldn't have bothered me in the slightest if the meal had been any good, but it just wasn't.

This place was fab! We had a late lunch and it was very quiet, but we all agreed that the food here was amazing. We all had the prix fixe lunch20 bucks for salad or soup and entree and a dessert--two of us had the gnocci, which were the most fantabulous gnocci known to man! The desserts also deserve a shout out---wonderful panna cotta!

The food here is good-great, no doubt. But, it is way overpriced for what you get. The atmosphere is pretty, but the bar is way too crowded and meat-market like for the prices. When this restauarant first opened it was one of my favorites in Portland. But, it has gone downhill and is incredibly full of itself.

I had been to Bluehour before in 2003 and absolutely loved everything about it, the food, the decor, the service. Sadly, last night I had a very different experience. The service was subpar. Our waiter could have cared less that we were there (no bread for us, yet all the other tables got some), we ordered the cheese tray and he just put it on the table and didn't tell us what he brought out. When we asked he seemed annoyed and said I can't really explain what I want to say and just walked off. We stared at the cheese and each other, laughed a bit, were confused as to if he was serious. He walked by the table a couple more times, and stopped in and started telling us how hard his job was, memorizing new menus everyday, and wines, and cheeses, and he'd been there since 10 am. So here was the cheese list, we could take it shopping with us if we liked the ones he put on the tray. (Um ok, but really this is your job, I don't call my clients and bitch about how much work I have to do everyday and tell them I can't be bothered with thier work). He just had a bad attitude, and I don't go out to what is supposedly still one of Portland's best restaurants to deal with a snarky disgruntled waiter. The only thing that is meriting more than one star is the food, it is still excellent (altho my lamb was more fat than meat - it's a good thing I like lamb fat) the tuna tartare and avocado mixture was very tasty, nice touch with the tangerines, the burger my friend got was enormous, and the cheeses were quite good. We didn't try dessert, since well he didn't ask us if we wanted any, and brought the check after clearing our dishes.

We had Sunday brunch here, which appears to be a fairly popular choice. The Dungeness Crab Omelet was tasty, with the accompanying hashbrown and toast. Chocolate eclair was a bit messy to eat, but manageable with a knife and fork. Nicely decorated restaurant with a high-end feel. Service was efficient and friendly. If I'm ever in Portland again, I would revisit and try the Bluehour hash, which looked really good.

I was visiting friends in Portland last weekend, and we went out for dinner and drinks to Blue Hour. It's in the Pearl which is the hot spot in Portland-I was looking forward to it. That is I was...until I sat down. We were ignored by the wait staff for about 20 minutes. They made up for it by bringing us complimentary glasses of sparking rose. There's a fondue dish that's supposed to be amazing on their bar menu-we wanted it as an appetizer, and we were told that the chef doesn't serve any of the bar menu in the main part of the restaurant....what? When we pressed the waiter he said (verbatim)..."When you become a 5 star chef and open a 5 million dollar restaurant, then you can choose to serve what you want. But until that happens-this is how we do it here." Had I not been an invited guest, I would have walked out of there without a glance back-instead...I ordered dinner. The food was alright-not "5 star" but it was good. The prices were way too high, there wasn't an entree on the menu that wasn't under $30. Perhaps I'm spoiled since I live in SF and we have fabulous restaurants, inventive menus, reasonable prices and good service, but if this is the "best" Portland has to offer- I'd rather starve.

The restaurant is beautiful. I love being there -- I just wish the food and service were better. We went on a Saturday night with reservations at 7:45. We were seated promptly, ordered drinks, then dinner, within ten minutes or so. We then waited an hour to get our salads. The waiter assured us that our entrees wouldn't take as long, which is not saying much considering we waited one hour for the first course! We ended up waiting at least 30 minutes for our entrees, and they were barely okay. The waiter offered us one dessert between the two of us as an apology. I was so disappointed, and just dying to get out of there. We had an amazing meal at Bluehour three years ago, and were hoping for a similar experience. I think I'd go back, but only for drinks in the bar -- never for dinner.

Probably the best in Portland? Just below the W+K building, this restauranr created a rave in town a few years ago. Excellent ambience, gracious decor and wonderful people fills this joint with an amazing vibe. And of course the creativity flows down from the planet's best agency upstairs. Blue Hour is a true classic and everyone should visit. They have a great happy hour when french fries cost only 2 bucks.

Bluehour, located in Portland's trendy Pearl district. It's kinda spendy on the regular menu, but has some terrific Happy Hour deals. There are fifteen food items on the Happy Hour Menu that range between a measly one dollar bill to $9. When you order the Smoked Onion Rings with paprika aioli for only three dollars, it feels a little like stealing. When you bite into them, you don't care. They're utterly fantastic! Smoking the onions doesn't come off gimmicky. It contributes another component to the flavor profile of the dish and adds some depth by countering the natural sweetness of the onions. The Grilled Lamb Sandwich, more of a slider really was lightly seasoned and grilled to perfection and served up on a grilled house-made slider roll smeared with a dollop of chutney and studded with pickled cauliflower. the Potato-Parmesan Gnocchi are five dollars and The are terrific, light, billowy puffs that became the most tender little dumplings that you'll ever eat. The only thing that was better was the Italian sausage sugo that was used to sauce the gnocchi. It was sweet and porky with a nice hint of heat from the chili pepper in the sausage. All that was topped with some grated reggiano. It would not be a chore to devour of whole platter of these! There's a full bar, too/ and the service was friendly. It's a truly beautiful restaurant and worth checking out the next time you're in downtown Portland.

We recently celebrated my husbands birthday with close friends at the Bluehour. (10/20/12) I almost changed at the last moment based on some Yelps. I am soooooo glad we didn't! The food and service were superb! All five of us raved about each of our dishes! And the wine list had one of our favorite Chardonnay's on it. A very nice surprise. Our water glasses were never neglected and our napkins folded after visiting the restroom. yes it's a little pricey but with quality food and fine dining its expected. And worth it. This restaurant is now a favorite place for celebrating special occasions or entertaining out of town guests or business meetings. I cannot say enough good things! Outstanding.

Enjoyed a celebratory dinner tonight with my and my partner's family. It wasn't my first choice, mainly because of the Yelp reviews, but we experienced none of the inconsistencies reflected in the reviews. But it was the only restaurant that could accommodate us early enough to make our after-dinner show. It is a beautiful restaurant in a great location in the Pearl. The service was attentive but unobtrusive... none of the conversation-interrupting, mouth half-full abstemious hovering that pretenders to the high end restaurant scene seem to accomplish so well. The wine list is excellent, mostly northwest and a smattering of California and European wines. The waiter's recommendations were not the most expensive bottles, which is commendable, not to mention that the wine was the right pairing for our group. The food was outstanding. The foie gras was moussy and aromatic, the crab cakes were not over breaded, scallops and macadamia nuts were perfectly prepared (with an apple-fennel sauce that was mind-blowing), the octopus terrine was luscious, oysters were served with a heavenly champagne mignonette, lobster tortellini was astoundingly delicate and the Cesar was definitely well-prepared. The main courses were all perfect, New York was delicious and perfectly medium rare, pork chops and frutti di mari were all more than competent and the sides were flavorful, especially the Brussels sprouts! For dessert, the pumpkin pavé was amazing, a chocolate flourless cake and creme brûlée were to die for with flavor, consistency and presentation worthy of a Beard nod. The kitchen may have struggled to keep us on track for our show, but we got out on time and did not feel like we were rushing. The food is definitely foodie quality with every bite, local, fresh and exquisite in the favors. In the end, I think Bluehour displaces Paley's as my favorite Portland restaurant.

Wasn't expecting Portland to have such a "formal" clientele, so I felt underdressed, but I settled in fine. Ordered the trio of Fois Gras, which was really quite incredible. Mousse, terrine and seared F.G. We paired or assorted, sweet and salty elements. Perfection. Then moved into my Black truffle SeaBass. The presentation was lacking, and the Black truffles were either tasteless or nonexistent. Average tasting. Then the chocolate torte. Uggghhhhh.... Moist yes, but the chocolate mousse on top was overkill. It wasn't Wow... I expected more overall, but it just fell in the average category for me as an experience. The service was above average, but that's about it. Sorry,

My friend took me out to dinner last night telling me that I will love this place. Coming in, I loved their decor, the intimate and romantic feel of the place. There was music playing in the background which I really enjoyed. What I did not enjoy most of all was the service. The server was not personable at all. he barely said anything throughout the whole dinner service. No 'excuse me' when trying to change the knifes in front of us, no checking if we needed anything, no stopping by to see if we liked the food, nothing at all. He did refill our waters as the glasses were getting empty. The thing that completely shocked me, was when he took our plates, which still had food on them without asking if we (me and my friend) were done with them. We took a little break from eating to chat, and he just came and took both of our plates away, without saying a word. I didn't say anything because I was actually done with my food, but my friend still had half of her food on there and was just in awe and wasn't even sure what to say, (she still had food in her mouth). After this, my friend intentionally held the payment until we were leaving the restaurant, but the server came and wanted to remove it from under her hands (her hands were resting on the book) and this time she said that it's not ready yet. Just very rude and poor service, especially for this kind of upscale place that it is. As to the food, when it came, I loved the presentation (we both had roasted pork). But, the pork was pretty dry and overcooked and the wheat berries or whatever that was for the starch had something burnt in them that looked like a completely charcoal black onion (well it tasted burnt as well). There was mustard sauce accompanying the dish, but there was just not enough of it on the plate to offset the blandness of the dish as a whole. On the upside, it was a pretty large dish. All in all, I absolutely loved the ambiance of the restaurant, the tall ceilings, large windows, candlelight and nice music made the atmosphere absolutely lovely. Since this was my first time here, I will definitely give this place another try and hope that the food and service will be better.

Service really plays a part on the dining experience. Sad that we must have been targeted as non-diners. We ordered the heirloom tomato salad along with chanterelle pasta. Each had an entree (scallop and duck). Our drinks sat empty from the first course and never refilled. I had to request a knife for the duck. The check was dropped without an offer of dessert. Chris... Your service is better fitted to a Denny's. If your going to be a plate carrier, go somewhere where it's fitting. Thank you Casey for attempting to fill in were our server lacked.

This is a playboy palace. Playboy Palace: A place where men between the ages of 35-45 who are "picky" serial daters, but really just don't want to grow up yet and want to date tons of women between the ages of 21 and 25. But, they end up taking out women like me, who are between the ages of 29-36, and are tired of being played but are willing to eat a free dinner somewhere. This place appeals to the yuppie crowd in my mind. It has a really nice atmosphere and I had decent service. The good was so-so. I had the risotto and it was a bit salty. Wine selection was decent, but I guess the quality of the food did not justify the prices. I think I would like this place at happy hour, but I think it maybe too busy with the men I described above.

You should know, I wasn't supposed to be anywhere near Portland this weekend. I had plans to go back to sunny Cali. However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to stay in town. I said, what the heck. I already had the night off, my hair was freshly highlighted and straightened, so I told my hubby to take me out on the town. We had wanted to try Bluehour for awhile, and decided to pull the plug. It's easy to find, and I love the added convenience of $6 valet. We got there in time for happy hour, and sat out on the deck. We were kept warm by heated lamps and the overhang. We were starving, so we ordered the crispy chickpeas, bruscetta, margherita pizza, and the bluehour burger. Perfect amount of food for us, and everything was delicious. Those chickpeas might be a little TOO good- I could pop those like candy. Then we splurged on dessert and got the chocolate cake, paired with the suggested port. SO decadent. Service was good, especially considering how busy it was on a Friday night. If you haven't been yet, I recommend the happy hour!!!

My wife and I had a wonderful date night at Bluehour. The woman at the door threw us off guard by saying, "How can I help you?" as we walked in. Maybe we looked lost? We got a table right away on the bar side for happy hour, however, and proceeded to have a memorable little meal. The food was all quite delicious and the cocktails were amazing (I'm looking at you, New York Sour). Bluehour also has beautiful decorations and an elegant ambiance. To top it off the waitstaff were very polite and appropriately attentive. We will definitely be back with family and friends.

Well, I hear great things, and the atmosphere of this place was certainly fun, but, well... I don't know, $12 for a pretty mediocre salad seems like a lot, and to be honest I can't even remember what the other thing we ordered was, but it wasn't very memorable. We were there for drinks and appetizers, so I don't want to judge too harshly, and we'll be back to try dinner, but, well, I don't know, we were underwhelmed.

Great cocktails, great ambiance, but had happy hour pasta, and rigatoni was completely undercooked. Sent it back, waited 15 minutes, only to be served another identical pasta; when I bit into the noodle, you could see the starch ring. I work in an Italian restaurant that makes its own pasta, and I find this inexcusable. I like my pasta al dente, but this was raw.

Probably the best restaurant in Portland. No parking but valet is ONLY $6! Who cares about parking when there is a cheap valet? Service was excellent, food was excellent. Our total bill for a 3 course dinner for two (no drinks) was only $80-90 so pretty inexpensive for an upscale venue. I had a dozen of oysters and two smaller appetizer-size meals (risotto and gnocchi) and dessert. The dessert was the only thing that was lacking as it was just few candies and small chocolates for $12 that were flying all over the to-go box. My friend ordered chicken and it was a pretty large size meal. Delicious, too: she gave me a bite. The best part was that despite really crappy weather outside, the poor valet guy spotted us leaving (we were sitting near the window) and rushed to get us the car so when we came out, the car was already there! Now that's service. We tipped him well and were very grateful we didn't have to stand outside under the freezing rain. All in all, great ambience, food and service.

Happy Hour Review***************** I met up with a girlfriend here around 5:30 on a Thursday and we got a spot right away. We both shared a bottle of the $20 wine, which is a pretty good value considering all the drinks are about $5. Whenever I see a oyster shooter on a menu, I'm going to order it. I didn't care for the oyster, but it came in a vineger laden shot with some tomatoe and onion. Really tasty. I also ordered the Goat Cheese Fondito with bread. You can't go wrong with Goat Cheese. I also had the cheese plate which was a really great deal. The service as a little slow, but the place was packed. Our server was really sweet. I would recommend it.

I am so stocked on Bluehour's awesome happy hour - classy cocktails, a generous and good food menu heavily discounted, a nice bar area with a lot of seating, and it even happens on the weekend so you can start Friday and Saturday night off right. Bluehour's cocktails are really good & their happy hour includes some gems. My boyfriend had the moscow mule which was my favorite on the list - really refreshing & light and the ginger totally masks whatever alcohol is in it. The HH food menu has a ton of stuff on it and is super inexpensive yet the quality doesn't suffer. I ordered the grilled vegetable sliders & the herbed goat cheese fonduta (adding to a sum total of a whopping $5 - can't beat that). The grilled vegetable sliders were awesome - fresh grilled vegetables, delicious pesto, and perfectly toasted bread. The herbed goat cheese fonduta was pretty good too - yummy goat cheese floating in tomato garlic sauce with toasted slices of baguette. My only complaint is that the bread was way too hard for me to eat delicately.

I decided to try out Blue Hour based upon a recommendation from a co-worker of mine. I travel to Portland on a monthly basis for work, so I'm always open to trying new restaurants while I'm there. I came by myself on a Wednesday evening-there is limited to no street parking- and ended up parking just up the block in the Whole Foods parking garage. The restaurant has a tiny but nice outdoor seating area that was completely filled the night I was there. Upon entry to the restaurant, I was completely confused as to if I had stepped into the right place! The people outside as well as the wooden seating, did not match the very upscale ambiance inside. Restaurant identity crisis? Upon entry, the maitre 'd greeted me and took me to my table. The restaurant was busy, and quite loud actually. My waiter was cordial, and recommended an amazing cocktail for me but I felt like I was being rushed through my meal. Now, I wasn't terribly hungry, and wasn't too impressed with what looked to be a seasonal menu so I just ordered the Alaskan Halibut entree. I had wished I had asked about portion size prior to my order as I probably would have ordered an appetizer had I known how tiny it would be. I was given one piece of bread while I waited for my meal...one. My meal arrived about 10 minutes later...it was good, not $27 good, but decent. My waiter checked on me once while I was eating, which wasn't a problem for me...it was the numerous other members of the wait staff that continuously walked by, checking on me, asking me if they could take every piece of stray tableware away every 5 minutes. Literally, the minute I put my fork onto my dinner plate, someone immediately was at my side asking if I was finished...again, I felt like they were rushing me out. Perhaps because they wanted to fill my tiny table with 2 people that would be ordering a full meal and spending more? Either way, I declined the dessert menu and my check was promptly brought to me. Now, I've heard the happy hour is decent so if I decide to come back, the hh is what I will try. Overall impression: decent food, too upscale on the inside while the outside is your average Portland hh crowd, prices are outrageous for what you get, very cold and dry wait staff.

We went to Blue Hour this weekend with another couple as sort of a "kick off the evening" primer. The staff was friendly and anxious to serve us. Pro's - Drinks are great but a bit spendy. They mix a good Manhattan and I oredered a Midnight Overcast(?) that was awesome! I would go back just for another one. It is an absinthe based martini. Not for everyone. Cheese sampler is perfect! I knowledgable waiter comes to the table with his cart o' cheeses and helps you pick your favorites. They were all awesome. Cons - Oysters were really weak. At $35 a dozen the oysters were tiny and flavorless. They mix a sauce with vinegar and garlic that didn't work for me. I was very disappointed. Prices are not for the feint of heart. 2 dozen oysters, a cheese sampler, and 9 martinis set us back $184+ tip. It was an expensive way to "kick off" the evening!

The good: The cheese tray was amazing and the champagne was good. Clean bathrooms, although very dimly lit - I was looking for a light switch. Attentive server and wait staff that filled my thimble of water frequently. The bad: Our food, which was not cheap, took forever to come, was cool when it did. My chicken tasted like they'd used an entire vat of salt on it and seemed undercooked. Two within my party sent the salmon back as it was unacceptable and the cod wasn't much better. The desserts were lacking, much more into presentation than taste. Thankfully after the food sent back debacle ours were comped. For as uncrowded as it was when we got there, I was surprised how long it took to get our food. The ugly: Parking - there is none! Needless to say, I will not be back. Too many other good choices that aren't going to cost me an arm and a leg and an entire evening for a meal that was below average. I almost feel bad for the homeless guy that I gave the rest of my chicken to!

Giant corporate owned rip off to the tune of $220. The service was a disaster. We saw the waitress about 3-4 times all might and she never explained any of the dishes. We planned on ordering the $45 three course menu but OBTW we're out of the sturgeon. My main dish of monk fish was deep fried, who was to know, with undercooked dried beans, which I sent back. The $16 cheese course consisted of 3 slivers of cheese. Then we had to beg for forty five minutes for our check. Forget this place!

Our experience here was alright. Wonderful atmosphere and exceptional waitstaff. We ordered the gnocchi off the dinner menu and it was ok. No special presentation whatsoever. It was some pasta thrown on a plate and could have been nuked in the microwave for all we knew. No garnish or anything pleasing, which one would expect here. I think Bluehour is so not Portland. A place to see and be seen with no quality food.

I've had a lot of great meals at Bluehour, but last Wednesday evening fell short. I ordered leg of lamb; I was served two lamb chops. They were chewey and difficult to cut with the Dollar Tree knife provided. Chops are not an acceptable substitution for leg. The geometry of the rectangular plate and gravity teamed-up to deposit the fork in my lap, a messy nuisance. I know these guys can do better.

Pretty typical New American fare. Nothing mind blowing, but decent. A bit over priced for what you are getting. You can definitely find better restaurants in town with more innovative food choices at the same price point or cheaper. Staff and servers were very professional.

Why are the reviews so low for this place. This is a go to fine dining restaurant with an excellent happy hour. The food is always great, the service is top notch, and the decor is in a league of its own. Why only four stars? The pearl district is filled with tons of restaurants that can provide a better experience for the dollar, nonetheless this is still a fantastic place.

We ate at Blue Hour a year ago February and then again tonight. We walked away last year saying how fabulous the food and atmosphere was. Tonight, the atmosphere is still nice, but the food was just so-so. It was a bit of a comedy of errors -- starting with our attempt to dine at the Departure Lounge at the Nines (see that review if you care) and evolved (see later review of The Daily Grill, again if you care). At the Blue Hour, while ordering, I indicated that I have an intense dislike for mushrooms, truffles and beets (I know, I know -- a gastronomic sin if you believe in that sort of stuff). Out came our amuse -- which was delivered with a mumble so we couldn't tell what it was -- I popped the little morsel in my mouth, only to discover it was a golden beet tart! Okay, so now I have to eat the remainder of the butter and gray sea salt on the table with a scrap of bread to dowse the nastiness of beets! Given how the night started, I was actually smiling and laughing by this time. My husband ordered the scallops to start and I had the bibb lettuce and radicchio salad. The scallops were wrapped in bacon and served with a cream sauce of some sort; while the scallops were nicely cooked, my husband felt the bacon was a bit old school and too rich when paired with the cream sauce. My salad was delicious, but there could have had a bit more bibb lettuce (too much shredded radicchio) and it was over dressed with buttermilk/blue cheese dressing. My husband ordered an appetizer sized portion of the white truffle gnocchi for his entree and I had the "signature" horseradish encrusted Sockeye salmon. The potato gnocchi were a bit heavy and the truffle/cream/cheese sauce was less than subtle. My salmon was significantly undercooked (and I ordered it medium-rare, which means the fish should be opaque inside and should slide not flake when you cut into it -- it was red and sticky). They brought me another one, which unfortunately was then overcooked -- I ate it, but found the dish, as a whole, to be very one dimensional and dull. There wasn't any real brightness to the dish -- the cucumbers over which the fish were served were limp and bitter and the trout roe didn't add much. We were going to pass on dessert, when a blueberry gelato and some sort of citrus/fennel (?) biscotti arrived. Both were delicious. The wine - a 2005 Domaine Michel La Farge (Volnay) -- was the highlight of the meal. Our server was also a delight (although he didn't really know much about the wine list -- we were told the sommelier is only in the house Thursdays through Saturdays).

Blue Hour is a beautiful restaurant in a great location. The food and drink is good but pricey. Pricey can be fun, when the service is great and they make you feel special. Unfortunately, Blue Hour makes you feel like they are doing you a favor to serve you and that they would be just as happy if you left them alone to chat in the back amongst themselves.

Pretty expensive place but we went for the Portland Dining Month special menu. 2 of the 3 items were loaded with dairy but they happily swapped them out for me. Before the meal began, they served us a foie gras/apricot crustini on the house. I then had a delicious Strawberry & Arugula Salad to start, followed by Crisp Duck Confit with a side of Breaded roasted Garlic Zucchini. We also ordered a bottle of wine but they forgot to charge us for it! Can't complain about that since the cheapest bottle starts at around $27. I couldn't give it four stars though - the food was definitely great but the prices aren't! A friend chose to go off the Dining Month menu and had the Roasted Chicken. While it was delicious going down, she didn't feel so great after. Not sure if it was the food or the booze! Otherwise, it's a beautiful restaurant in a very cool neighborhood. I'd recommend it for an upscale, romantic date or very classy business dinner.

I'd have to give Bluehour 5 Stars. The only complaint I had was that we had a 6:30 res, we got there a tad late and we still had to wait for the table. It wouldn't have been bad but the hostess acted a little ditzy about us and then even came back to us after about 4 minutes and asked if we'd been helped yet.... same hostess. The waiter we did have was awesome - very good at explaining the dishes and very attentive. The food was amazing - two of us had the beef short ribs. I never clean my plate but I licked the dish on this one! My mom had the sea scallops and ordered a side of brussel sprouts and loved them! The dessert menu was not the extensive and we couldn't really find anything that attracted us so we ended up with a plate of chocolates that were unique. Overall - loved it and would go back!

My boyfriend and I went here for our valentines dinner this year, but I have to mention that we actually went out the night before (Feb 13) so it was a normal dinner night for the restaurant. It was amazing. I have eaten at many nice, expensive, fancy restaurants in the past, and this one is very comparable on that level. The food was delicious...every course proved it was truly a great restaurant. We had a fantastic bottle of wine and some fun cocktails. I wouldn't give it a four star because of this, but the only thing I would say bad is that I ordered a moscow mule and a true MM comes in a copper mug...this one did not. You don't see those many places so I was excited but then a little disappointed when it did not have the copper mug. The best part of the dinner I think was the cheese course we had with our miniature chocolates at dessert time. The "cheese man" knew everything about the different cheeses and we were exceptionally happy with all of our cheese choices. A must go!

Last time I came here was for happy hour two years ago, but I still remember what I ordered. It was just a simple bruschetta with warm goat cheese and tomato, but I have such vivid memory of it was that I'm now considering having dinner here. How was the service/drink menu/presentation/atmosphere? I don't recall. It clearly didn't matter.

This place has really improved over the years and is now bustling with a lot of business the minute the place opens. Great happy hour menu with oysters, pork belly sandwich, grilled lamb sandwich with tamarind chutney, and the most amazing tagliatelli pasta with mushrooms. They also have some fancy drinks like the New York sour with a splash of wine as a twist. This is one of my favorite drinks they have. There are a few other old fashioned cocktails made with a bit of a twist. About 4 beers are on tap. Ninjas IPA, oakshire amber, Stella, and a new Widmer Imperial Stout. This is a great selection for only a few taps. The ambiance is great! Fancy little spot. Open aired. Well lit. Expansive inside with nice lighting to create a mood and "in the city" feel. The servers here are awesome! Super spunky an friendly. I usually sit at the bar and have always been well taken care of. I have been here about 7 times cuz it took me a while to figure exact how I felt. Now I am sure. Strong 4 star rating. Good job blue hour!

I hit this place up too early (4pm) on a Friday and I was by myself but what made it great was the stylish atmosphere and outstanding bartenders. I've recently moved back from Scottsdale, AZ and I'm used to swank bars and the nightlife there. Bluehour is a good fit for my tastes. Dinner menu isn't served until 5pm, so I tried the bacon potato pizza (excellent). The bartenders even collaborated on a list of several new places for me to try (I'm definitely not a 'hipster' or beer drinking type) and I like to dress up a bit. I'll return with some girlfriends and make an evening out of it soon. I look forward to trying the rest of their upscale menu. My kinda' place!

The Good: This may be new favorite place for happy hour. It has an elegant/modern atmosphere. Very good menu which means good food at low prices! The Bad: Seating will be pretty hard to find like all good happy hours. Try: the spaghetti. Yeah, I know that sounds pretty dull, but trust me, it's awesome. If anybody had this or will have this, tell me why it's so good and where I can get a recipe! Also, try the bathrooms - they're nice. Don't Try: ....

Yeah, this place is ok. My networking groups both used their "event" room for our meetings. The space was absolutely gorgeous. The servers were good and efficient, if not especially friendly, and the food was acceptable. Not too great, but certainly not bad. Granted, this was for events of 20+ women, with a set menu. I don't have any idea what their regular menu is like. Overall, It's a really nice space for events.

First off this is NOT a HH review, its a reflection of a premeditated plan to revisit Bluehour ever since the L'Yelp Magnifique event. My enjoyment shown there was satisfactory but I wanted to see all the delicacies here in their full page glory. So I came back for a French inspired party in my mouth to celebrate my own -- birthday that is. The restaurant's interior was just as elegant as before with clean linens, architectural tiles adorning the walls, long flowing silk drapes and large, circular, globe chandeliers. My party was sat at a table near the kitchen next to the very long chef's table. We started with a few menu selected glasses of wine because surprisingly this time I did not bring my own. Actually I found the selections to be priced pretty competitively for this class of restaurant and besides my buddy brought a bottle for our entrees. Soon we were toasting glasses of very nice French whites as we selected our appetizers. While there are many great ones to choose from only one called out to me, the crispy pork confit. Luckily my greedy indulgence didn't have to end there because we also ordered the terrine of octopus and pate de tete or foie gras. They were all wonderful but the pork belly was pure heaven on my plate and I regret being so generous by sharing it with my party. It was perfectly dense in the middle releasing salty juices with each successive bite and finishing with a delicate crunch of flavor. Yes it was accompanied by nice greens but they acted more as a garnish to pretty up the plate. The other standout to me was the pate with its luscious texture and rich flavor. I may have gotten carried away when I growled at our waiter who tried to take the small remnants away. Like Folgers it was good to the last drop, I spread it on anything I could get my hands on, oh yes even the pork confit! On to the entrees, I had scanned over the menu prior to coming and already had my choice on radar lock. I knew however they would try to tantalize my taste buds away with some freakishly good sounding special but luckily for me I was already ordering it. No chicken this time Frenchy, nope not even another pork dish, even though I seriously considered it. I choose the braised veal cheeks, a meat that had been escaping my mouths grasp for sometime now. My diners also ordered the halibut, gnocchi, lamb and joined me in my veal celebration. The meat was intensely flavorful and pulled apart easily with subtle movements of my fork. It was covered in a rich demi glace probably made with pan juices, wine and rosemary, atop some parsnip mash that added a nice starchy texture. Even though veal is hard to come by for the price vs portion I would have much rather ordered two of the succulent pork confit in place of this experience. We didn't even look at their dessert options because a lovely friend of mine brought me a custom wine-inspired birthday cake. Unfortunately we found out that celebrations come with a price here at Bluehour. Now I understand the standard corkage fee policy but they charged us $4 for each slice of our own cake! That simply makes no sense to me or the definition of customer service. Next they were going to make this bday boy irate for charging me a second slice when they decided to waive my fee entirely. Overall our service was much slower than I would have hoped at this level of price and the cake experience didn't help with any added points. There's no denying the food and cosmetics are top notch options but I'll leave you to decide how much you're willing to pay if not backed up by stellar service. So Unless you share deep pockets with the late Rick James whose graphic persuasions inevitably kept him from paying you won't be able to come up in here and announce to everyone "this is a celebration bitches" without spending some extra bucks.

Real upscale - modern decor. Our hotel screwed up our reservation but they found room for us, which was appreciated. The food selection was amazing and I thought the service was outstanding. They have quite the amazing selection of house cocktails which I recommend for something different. My only compliant on this place to why it did not get five stars is that I ordered pork which came out a little dry. Now, I normally don't eat pork, but I thought it was too dry. The restaurant did offer to exchange it, but at that time I was full and the rest of my party had eaten. Other than that, I would return next time I am there. Very hipster, somewhat yuppy place and in a great neighborhood.

Great decor. A beautifully lit tree when you first walk in. Avoid sitting right near the front in winter. The breeze from the door is rough. Food is imaginative and AMAZING. We only had dessert and drinks. The options and flavors of both did not disappoint. The chocolate torte topped with pumpkin chai ice cream is a must have. The black sesame honey finishes the dish.

I visited Bluehour for happy hour on a Friday evening. This was my first trip to the restaurant, even though I've been hearing about it for years. I would gladly come back for the unforgettable drinks. The Savannah Sunset is seriously the best cocktail I've ever had. It may just be the best drink in the universe; I'll keep testing, but things are looking good. I wasn't blown away by the food. The presentation of the cheese plate was stunning, and it's always nice to eat a beautifully-presented piece of cheese. The hand-cut fries with bernaise were also a win. I wasn't impressed with the cuban sandwich by any stretch; it was tiny, mostly bread, and just set on the plate in the style I do when I microwave a Marie Callendar's pot pie. I found the service to be extremely friendly. We sat at the bar, and I didn't get a whiff of pretention from any of the bartenders or waiters. They were eager to answer questions, and just make us feel comfortable. I had a truly enjoyable time, and look forward to another one of those Sunsets.

When I can cook a dinner better than what I have received, then I am truly astounded you can stay open. Nice people and a great space are your only saving grace. Ever hear of seasoning? I think its just the people who want to be seen in a hip place that keep this place open. It certainly isn't the food. 23 Hoyt is much better. So what is their chef doing there that you aren't doing at Blue Hour. Ohhh, he must have a spice rack.

Their food is okay, but the prices are not. Well, I don't know, maybe they pluck the veggies from a small area that they have in the back and they used golden shovel. So their trying to pay for that golden shovel, and now I just paid about 12 to 15 buckaroos for my regular, run of the mill, no gold flakes, salad. a few tomatoes, lettuce and one arugula. 12 american dollars, so i'm sure you can imagine the prices on the rest of the menu. I'm sorry, I don't mean to be cheap but I honestly thought it was gonna be really really awesome spectacular food for the price. great ambiance though, good service and okay food.

Eaten dinner here twice in the past 18 months with a group of 10-12 friends and colleagues. Bottom line, start your nite here... Great environment, excellent cocktails and appetizers... But wrap up and go somewhere else for dinner or else you'll be dissapointed. The space is awesome, great atmosphere during the holidays. Overall very nice waitstaff, host and bartenders. Food is interesting but over priced for a major metropolitan city (SF, Chicago) let alone for Portland. It seems theyve got a new chef whos been mixing up the menu. Hands down the appetizers are better than the entrees... We had the halibut sashimi, a six selection cheese plate, the steak carpaccio, some tortellini and roasted brusselsprouts and potatos for starters. Sashimi was elegant and perfect, the cheesemonger knew his stuff and had a great selection of american ( wisconsin, oregon and cali) cheeses in addition to italien and spanish/portuguese. Dinners were across the board un-inspiring. Most of the meals didnt come with the simple finnishing touches and elegance that the appetizers had perfected. I ordered the steak, medium rare... Very happy i did that because it came out medium. Three moderate slices of ribeye and some other horrible stewed beef... For $37 it just wasnt worth it... I mean please, steak one way perfectly is better than two ways avage. A friend got the roasted chicken.. He said it was nice, and was a good portion but didnt look amazing from my side of the table. Three other colleagues got the skate fish, which was breaded and pan seared, the meyer lemon sause was delicate but again it just didnt look that much more visually stunning than fish and chips... The fish was cooked all right, but felt heavy handed not worth $27... With no sides. I also got a side of farro, the Roman army's supergrain, it came out slapped on a plate under cooked with absolutely no seasoning, almost as though they just didnt care to offer it on the menu. Add some olive oil, light tuscan herbs, a pinch of coriander to lighten it up please, i mean come on guys. The desert was a bit of thesaving grace... There was a beautiful custard... Everyone commented on how incredible it was. The chocolate brownie was ok its pumpkin ice cream was a nice touch... There was another desert that ive long since forgotten. Almost every single entree here needs work to elevate them to another level... But thst just the opinion of a dozen friends who love food.

I have wanted to like this place. Every time I go in with a clean slate ready to give them a chance to make me happy, all fresh new and hopeful. Every time I am overwhelmed by their failure. Epically bad service each time (four separate experiences). Each time at least one person's order has been flat out wrong or simply forgotten. I have waited for a drink after giving the order for over 35 minutes, then been told they were out of one of the items necessary for the drink. I then waited another 20 for the replacement drink. They were not slammed busy and we were seated within 10 feet from the bar... fail. I think Tatiana M. on here had it right that Bluehour is like a hot guy from high school who is vapid, shallow and with out redeeming qualities other than their looks. I have been to other Bruce Carey restaurants and had a glorious time, which makes me cerfuffled by this disaster. I hate the idea of giving a bad review to anyone but this place has done me wrong, repeatedly.

EXCELLENT food. a little hoity-toity clientele... but that's to be expected in the pearl. we went in for my birthday dinner that fell perfectly in the portland dining month of june, so we got a great deal on dinner for the 3-course $25 menu. the cremini mushroom and parmesan salad was a nice, fresh start to dinner. the main course was a braised (fall apart at the touch of a fork) beef with polentta. and dessert -- oh my -- dessert. coffee flavored ice cream drizzled with espresso chocolate sauce, complimented by espresso brownie wedges... i'd have to say that was the best part of my birthday ;)

The hubby and I went here for the happyhour deals after the beer and wine festival after finding Henry 's on 12th packed to rhe gills. Can you say God smiled on me today?? Delicious burger... And that wasn't even my meal! The burger was a thick patty of med rare, juicey goodness on a fresh roll and I had their clams and a white bean purée with bread, which was rich and delicious!! The 'cress salad was delish as well with its tart dressing and deep fried cheesy goodness. What a great happy hour! Between the fab bartenders (both were friendly and had great food suggestions) and the food, it was a really great "mistake". Oh...by the way...you MUST avoid any dessert with basil ice cream. Why??? Because then there is more for me!!! OMG...don't get me started. yummers to the nth degree...heaven!

I'm a SW guy that can get annoyed with some NW spots. Watching ppl sit at bar messaging each other on their iPads...isn't ambiance! HH menu is reasonable and the drinks were fine. The bartender was cool, but not my first choice bc the crowd wasnt my speed.

We were looking for a special place to celebrate our 26th anniversary, and chose Bluehour. Simply stated, one of the nicest dining experiences we have ever experienced. From the initial reservation to the nice touch of complimentary champagne, every staff member was exceptional, providing friendly well-paced service. Our meals included the Alaskan halibut and King Salmon, combined with wonderful side dishes. And for dessert, we shared a wonderful chocolate torte.

I guess Wednesday around 5:30 is THE time to come here for HH. my husband and I had plenty of options of where to sit and it never felt super hectic the whole time we were there. we started with some oyster shooters, which I'd definitely pass on next time (to me, it tasted like gazpacho + slime) the herbed goat cheese fonduta was wonderful. then we ordered the bruschetta of the day (smoked duck & caramelized onion), fries and a burger to share. this is where we should have come to break our gluten-free fast with all the bread we ate! everything was great, but we could have done without the fries. they were good but nothing spectacular. the server told us they worked will with the burger but the chips that came with it were plenty. now the drinks... this is obviously where they make their money. my husband's two drinks were more than all the food we had to eat. with four drinks and all of that food our bill was about $65 with tip. would definitely return for the food and just watch the alcohol intake.

My parents were visiting and we decided to try a new restaurant. We very much enjoyed all food, drinks and especially the ambiance. In Portland I am always happy when I dine somewhere and feel like I am somewhere else! We had salads and the calamari app. Both my husband and father got steak and were very happy, I really enjoyed the lobster gnocchi and would recommend to anyone and my mom enjoyed her tuna. Although there are always nice and new restaurants popping up I would recommend Bluehour for dinner or just drinks at the bar.

We had a nice HH at Bluehour before the sun went south for the winter and the patio seating was lovely. I see a lot of chatter about the service, clientele and setting being pretentious and snotty, but I didn't feel that vibe. I felt comfortable and relaxed and enjoyed everything we sampled. Yeah it's a pretty place with pretty people dressed well..pretty, so don't hate! I'd go back without a second thought. Very smoooooth...

This was probably the most "upscale" place we went to on our recent visit to Portland, which seemed almost out of place due to the focus on more casual eating in PDX. I would have given it 5 stars if not for the slightly clueless hostess (who originally placed us in the worst table in the place on a basically empty night) as well as the wait between courses, but the quality of food made up for it. We had the corn soup, sweet corn tortellini, tagliatelle pasta, and the yukon gold potato purée with crème fraîche, which were all delicious. But our favorite, hands down, was the corn soup, as its flavor and consistency was just heavenly. Our drinks were decent too, although I wish they had more of a cocktail list that wasn't so martini heavy, but from what I hear, happy hour is the time to check out Bluehour.

I've been here a few times and I have to say this place has lost it's charm. Changes in the menu, which normally are a good thing has led to the following. One of the most discouraging things is the lack of consistency and misrepresentation of the dishes. One dish that was supposed to contain chicken liver, had none. Another dish which was supposed to have fresh mint with the pasta, had one leaf buried at the bottom and the sauce tasted like extra left over from another dish. Wine selection is lacking and the wine suggested tasted like sewer run off from France, the wine I picked from the wine menu they didn't have, "sorry we just ran out" - that is not the first time I heard this here. I had thought I had found a new standby place, but I was horribly wrong. I'll just go up the street next time. The ambiance can be nice depending where you are seating, and service can be friendly but that too depends on which waiters they have working at that certain time.

This is my third time here. Exceptional cheese selection, and great food. Wine was great, atmosphere was great. Not cheap, but I'd argue you get what you pay for. Will go again.

An oldie but a greatie! I got on a kick this year of trying every well reviewed restaurant in the "fearless critic". Bluehour had been one of my go to places prior. Last night I remembered why! And I agree with another review here that they've improved. The food was flat out five star. I had the sea bass with a white bean and chorizo "stew" is what I'll call it that also had calamari and shrimp in it. WOW WOW. Had an appetizer of gnocchi and sweetbreads to die for and one of the best brussel sprout dishes I've ever had. I order brussel sprouts whenever they are on a menu. My husband said last night that out of all the places we've tried this year Bluehour is his favorite. He's not quite the foodie I am but he loves a great steak and his steak dish was perfect, the atmosphere was elegant and the service was amazing. Bluehour is also set apart from some of the other places in it's category in that the atmosphere looks and feels upscale. There's a big move on for places with upscale food and ultra casual atmosphere's. Not Bluehour. It was nice for a change.

Seeing a DB9 parked right out front, I knew I had a good dinner in store! I was here to celebrate my 21st. The creative drinks on their menu are really yummy. We ordered raw oysters, gnocchi, tuna, duck, among others. The duck was awesome, this coming from a Chinese girl who is used to eating Roast duck or Peking Duck. The chef even started us out with a complimentary appetizer! The dessert menu is ever changing as is their lunch/dinner menus but the 3 desserts ordered were all delicious. Very knowledgeable and patient staff. Our waiter suggested a delicious pinot gris.

This is a tough review to write. Not sure which way to go with this at all. At all. I scheduled a happy hour here for some peoples and called to ask about a reservation. They don't take reservations for happy hour (standard practice) but they made a special exception for our large party. That was nice. I showed up a little early to scope the place and walked into an ultra-cool space with nice music, nice lighting, a great chandelier, and very well dressed staff. I realized I was amongst the upper-crust of Portland. This is where the elite dine. I could feel it, and places like this definitely have their time and place. Our table was almost ready (the kitchen table at the back of the restaurant), and I enjoyed a nice glass of red as I sat at the quiet, elegant bar. So far, the service is great. If the queen of England comes to town, I will bring her here for a cocktail. Once at the table, I handed my card to the server and told her that I would like to keep a separate tab, so I could buy some apps for the table, and such. "Oh, we don't do separate checks". Hmm. Wow. At more inexpensive places, I can see that they need to save server effort. But at a super spendy place, with tons of staff on hand, there is no reason that checks cannot be split. Especially on a Sunday afternoon with advance notice and an attempt to work out an easy plan with the server. I am trying to host some food and drinks!! That means that everyone else at the table will spend more! No heat on the server here, obviously a company policy (albeit bad one). My wife and I have worked in the industry. It's not hard to split checks. Not hard, and common practice at most restaurants, especially if worked out before hand. Then came round after round of food and drink. The food was decent but not amazing. The meat plate and pizza are good HH deals, but the rest was underwhelming. They offer a bottle of decent French red on the HH menu for $20, and a bottle of sparkling for $25. If that's what you are in to, you are in for a deal. Most of our group wanted cocktails, and those were not all that cheap. Only 1 cocktail on the HH special, aside from well drinks and beers. When you're as rich as Bluehour, you can afford to offer a better deal at HH. Or maybe they're trying to keep the riff raff out. From how packed it is at much more reasonably priced happy hours within a mere 1 block radius, I am guessing that Bluehour simply has not figured out the equation yet. The service was decent enough for a party of 13 at happy hour, but our bill was insanely high for what we had. That turned the hour unhappy, and quick. This is simply not a great deal. Not at all. The only really good deals on there are the pizza (as mentioned above) and the wine at $20/bottle. So why 3-stars? Well, notwithstanding the poor choice of corporate policy, the service was good enough. The pizza was decent and cheap for how big and tasty it was. And their initial attempt to accommodate us was, well, endearing. But honestly. To be pretentious and inflexible at your overpriced happy hour is, well, it just pisses people off. And I honestly don't think you are in the business of doing that. It may appeal to some, but I see most at the other happy hours nearby that offer deals, flexibility, and lack of pretension. This is really a 2.5 star review. This is the tragic part. Sitting by myself at the crisp, clean white bar, enjoying my very reasonably priced glass of tasty French red, I had high hopes for the 2 happy hours to come. As the night progressed, things turned for the worse. I eat at plenty of very nice restaurants in this town and in other big cities, I know how it goes. There is a time and place for this level of snoot, and happy hour is NOT IT.

Let's start with the pros. No one sneered at me when I walked in. Our server/busser combination was snappy and non-judgmental. I'm willing to bet we're less fussy than your typical Bluehour customer, so maybe it was worth them burning the linens and destroying the dishes we fouled. Now the cons: Fancy pants nouveau riche jerkholery. If you have to ask you can't afford it. The only reason we let "people like you" in is because we can't legally keep you out. Stay snooty, Bluehour. It's not worth it. Bluehour is epic fail. And the not check splitting. Grrr. They get one star because Yelp says I have to give it to them and another star for graciously suffering our presence long enough to take some money from us. Thanks bunches, Bluehour.

If you're a fan of Gnochi, then look no further. There's an appetizer size or an entree for a bit more. If they could add just a bit more of the truffle sauce it would be the best I've ever had, never mind, it is! The drink menu is extensive. The only disappointment was the chocolate cake and ice cream. Great food at one of the best people watching spots.

This is a great place for happy hour. Service is fast, food variety is good and food is tasty and reasonably priced. I would come back. It was pretty crowded at 5 pm, but there seemed to be a lot of seating in and out. Other observations: Patrons were in dressed up a little more - business and dresses, outside tables are pushed pretty close together making for a tight fit. Lots of different ages, although tended to lean toward late 20-somethings.

A free drink for my son (who's just two) Made me think I'd like happy hour, too. But the fries came late, soggy; Mushroom pasta was boggy; By the hour's end I just felt, well, blue.

Had a great dinner here. It's good. It's complex, gourmet comfort food. Portions are large. A trained chef works here. Loved everything except the cocktails. Vodka is tired and they don't have enough specialty cocktails with gin or whiskey. My drink was too sweet, also. Other than the bar, love love love Bluehour!

After going to 23 Hoyt the day before, I came here for happy hour. The organization of the happy hour menu remained the same as that of 23 Hoyt. The quality of service here was lackluster. given that i was the only one of our group of three who didn't get a drink, we were not approached once for over 20 minutes for refills or other drinks. given that we were seated in the bar area, i would have expected them at leas to come back when i finished my drink to offer more. as for the menu selection, the items were a bit more creative than those seen at 23 hoyt, and seem to aim to accompany drinks moreso than provide diners with a deal for dinner.

What has a great Happy Hour menu, swanky digs, uptight servers, and a sexy ambiance...... Bluehour all the way! The space is open and airy, windows all around with lots of mirrors on the walls. Long velvety green curtains separate the bar from the dining area. The bar has a nice lounge are up front with cushioned chairs and low tables, and in the back the long mirrored wall is flanked by a comfy upholstered bench and small tables. They have brought in the outdoors with tall glass vases filled with tree limbs and leaves, great touch here in the NW! As the evening settled in, they lit candles on all the tables. We arrived just after 4, the bar open for HH, but dinner service not yet ready. As we sat drinking our wine, and waiting for our food, the staff was dining at the long table to the side of the restaurant. They were having their staff meeting, and it was sure entertaining! Let's just say, they run a tight ship here at Blue, make sure your locker stays clean and shoes off the floor!! Our server gave some great suggestions, but did not say much else, these guys are a bit uptight, are they not allowed to converse with their customers? I get that this is the image they are maintaining, and it shows for sure. The $20 bottles of wine are a great value, and a great wine. We started off with the fried oysters, done just right, tender and yummy. Oh and what's this, smokey onion rings? We had to get these, I'm a sucker for onion rings! They were so smokey, you could smell them before they reached the table! These were our favorite. I have not had anything like these before. We did ask our server how they made these. They smoke the onion before frying in the beer batter, wow what a difference! The Cuban sandwich, and the grilled lamb sandwich had amazing flavors, and the Margaretta pizza was delish! But the chocolate torte with pistachio ice cream left me speechless! The chocolate was creamy and melted in your mouth, it was like velvety silk. I was like wow, this is the best chocolate ever!! I will be back for more Bluhour, and even though they are swanky and uptight, they deliver all that they stand for!

Recently had dinner here on a Thursday evening. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. However, the restaurant was very empty and our server was overly attentive, hovering around our table a bit too much for my liking. I'd like to try again on a weekend when it is more lively. It had too much of a corporate dinner feel on the weekday.

One of the better burgers in Portland, and a great happy hour. I haven't had anything less than good here and I've explored the happy hour menu fairly extensively. Great place to meet up with friends over drinks before gaming (as one does).

Was here for a private wedding rehearsal dinner/party and a special catering event where the menu was specially designed by the chef with the bride and groom. So I cannot comment much on the restaurant itself but I what I do have to say is that even though nothing could damper our spirits at such a joyous wedding rehearsal dinner, I was really bothered by the fact that the servers there looked like they didn't want to be there so the service was a little awkward. They weren't particularly friendly or anything. But the food was really delicious.

This review is for HH only. I came here after a long week of hard work and enjoyed it with a couple of my gals. This place reminds me of something off of SoHo in NYC. Decor is quite elegant-modern chic all dressed up in white, silver, wood and mirrors! The circle tables by the bar are available for HH, the others are for the fine dining area. You can also sit outside if you'd like to people watch. You don't have to make a reservation. It's first come first serve kinda deal. What I liked about their happy hour menu is that they had items available ranging from the $1-$5 for food. They also offer beer and wine. My friends and I shared a bottle of Pinot Grigio (I forgot the name but it's the only Pinot Grigio on the HH menu. I enjoyed the $5 chef's board of salumi paired with pickled red onions, pickles and mustard. The $2 oyster shooters that were fantastic! On top of that I had to try the $3 Meatball sandwich which was delicious and probably the favorite thing I had that night. (I would definitely order that again!) My party and I came on a Friday afternoon and enjoyed our time there. I would definitely come back for HH at Bluehour and I would most likely order the Meatball sandwich again!

Can I give a rating less than 1-star? Perhaps my expectations were too high going in. Perhaps they just had an off night. A colleague's wife used to manage this place, so he told how great it was. However, when we showed with a couple of the top dogs from our firm, Bluehour fell flat on their face. Yes, the food was good. But the service was TERRIBLE! Way too terrible to overcome anything else. In fact, it was so bad, that they comped two $100+ bottles of wine that we had order b/c they brought them AFTER we ate our meal! That's just one example of many. I know others have had better experiences, but I really don't know if I can be talked into going back. Cheers!

One of the classier establishments in Portland. Food was good (got the ribeye) but not great. Drinks were nice, but not the best in Portland. Service was great but the food just came up a little short to get the 4 stars.

I have friends who have gone here for dinner and loved it. Prior to visiting Bluehour for lunch I had gone in for a drink with a friend and had a decent experience. The atmosphere is lovely. When I went in with a friend for lunch though, the service was terrible (slow, not attentive, it took a very long time to even get water, even longer to get a drink, and it seemed everyone around us got their food long before we did - even when we had arrived first). When the food arrived both of our dishes were over salted. This was a big disappointment. I love a nice and calm place, in the Pearl, that takes reservations for lunch, but I won't be going back.

We came in late night with a rowdy group of ruggers and friends, and I was skeptical given the swanky decor of the place. However, I was promised the best steak frites on this side of the Atlantic, and I am happy to say they delivered and then some! The service was great, and, from what I recall, so were the wine and cocktails. I'll definitely be back for a visit the next trip to Portland.

I've been wanting to have Happy Hour at Bluehour for a while, especially after my favorite bartender moved away from another place to Bluehour. One summer evening, few of my friends suggested for a very happy hour here. Of course I said hell yeah! Let me tell you, they have probably one of the best happy hour in Pearl District . Fresh ingredients with a very affordable price. I had the $3 meatball sandwich and the meatball was huge. It filled me up quickly. Also I ordered the French fries cooked in butter and sprinkle with Cayenne pepper. It was darn amazing. They have drinks special and also $20 bottles of Cava. It's the best bargain to share with your friends. I love the ambiance. It's a bit upper class, but I like it. It's a nice change from the usual casual Portland places. Now, I have one more thing to add to my favorite activity : Happy Hour at Bluehour.

How have I gotten away without writing a review for this long. I was a regular here for the better part of a year when I was lucky enough to have a co-worker who's partner was in the Bruce Carey restaurant family. Their happy hour is to die for. They have always had some of the best chefs (Kenny) and sommelier's in town. The gnocchi , scallops, risotto, all varieties of chicken, and most everything else I've eaten here (especially the old tuna tartar, now the salmon tartar), are superbly executed and delicious! I have to still recommend Bluehour, some people think it's played out, I think I'd be glad to go right this moment!

I go to Blue Hour every single day. It's become my office and my favorite place to enjoy soup. Plus, the staff--bartenders Art, Allen, Andrew, Bradley, Jason, Jessie.... MONEY. Servers Jared(s), Daniel, Dave, Adam, Rhainna, Jesse, Christopher, Chris, Andrea! Then the general manager Rodolphe, the beautiful managers Jillian, RJ, and Chris, and ROBIN, the gorgeous face that meets me when I arrive almost every day. Blue Hour is my Cheers. The food is spectacular, the wine is amazing, and the staff always bends over backwards to make my office (the end of the bar) very comfortable. This is a big KUDOS to the entire team of Blue Hour geniuses. I love you guys! See you tomorrow for soup and Barbera.

This had been on my radar for a while, and the b/f and I finally decided to try it the first night of Brewfest. All in all, it was a very nice experience. The services was top notch, the food was delish, and the overall ambiance is class-tastic. We started off with the foie gras...and omgsogood. Totally worth the price tag ($26). My only complaint, comes with the entree. Since we were going to be drinking right after dinner, I was concerned about portion size. I was looking at the halibut cheeks, but wanted to make sure they would be a good size. When our waiter came by to take our order, we asked if it was a decent sized portion. He confirmed "they" were good sized (as I mentioned...they were cheeks...plural.) When my dish finally arrived, I only had one cheek on my plate. I was slightly confused, but I thought since it was a good size, they just put one on the plate instead of two. Dinner itself was great. Not spectacular, but very good. However, I was noticing our waiter serving more halibut cheeks...and there were 2 cheeks on these other plates. This irked me slightly. I would definitely be willing to give this place another shot and convince me to add that final star to my rating.

Bluehour is one of the best restaurants in Portland. The food is excellent, the service is great, and the ambiance is outstanding. When your in the mood for fine dining Bluehour hits the mark. They use a lot of local ingredients for both meat, and vegetables. Their crab cake sandwich is to die for. I love cheeses, and they have a great selection of cheeses for dinner. Bluehour isn't one of the new hot restaurants that all the sheep run to. It's just plain and simple a great restaurant. If your on a tight budget or a cheapskate not the place for you. If you want to treat yourself,a friend, and or someone you care about to a memorable dining experience this is one of the great restaurants of Portland. A tried and true classic.

The wife wanted to show off her rockin' bod and hot new dress after spending the summer running a gazillion races, so we decided to hit an old favorite, Bluehour. As always, easy to make a reservation, even on saturday.. Same old same old, food wise... Salmon tartare was ridiculously good.. ridiculously... Pork Terrine ( Pate ) was great, but about the same as what I make at home, and what you can buy at Chop or laurelhurst for $5. Bottle of Edmund St. John "that old black magic".. great blend, and perfect for the night. Had to laugh when I saw Sokol Blossers entry level pinot for $75 bucks.. this is a $15 pinot, that SB overcharges at $35/retail.... I like them.. nice people, but they're becoming the McPinot of the local wine scene. We split the ribeye... it was cooked perfectly, and other than being a tad small for $40 bucks, was perfect. Dessert was the best pound cake in the work, topped with roasted mission figs, and cinnamon ice cream, along with a flight of outstanding dessert wines. The best part of the evening ( besides seeing the aforementioned super duper hot wife in a very clingy dress and kneehigh hot boots ) was the service. Daniel was our server, and he was the best. A true professional, who's been there for years. He was professional, polite, but not chatty, very knowledgeable about the food, wine, and restaurant, and truly made our evening great. He's the exact opposite of about 75-80% of the typical slacker servers we encounter here in puddletown. So if you want to go out for a 'big night', come to blue hour... if you want to come for a less expensive happy hour, or lighter meal at the bar, come to bluehour.. it's freaking awesome!!!

What you are about to read is all true. Six years ago I abandoned my kitchen and ate at Bluehour 67 nights in a row. In the bar, in the dining room, outdoors, indoors, during happy hour, peak times, super late and every other possibility. I came to know many of the servers (none of whom, oddly, questioned my constant presence.) During this time, I deeply admired the consistent quality of service, impressive food execution, and solid cocktails. My typical fare of choice included salad, salmon, oysters, pizza, the meat plate (who can really say the word charcuterie?) pasta, steak frites, or the special. More recently, I have had a few dinners and a few brunches. Somehow, Bluehour has continued to deliver on the promise of an upscale urban food haven without becoming completely self obsessed. Here are a few tips to a good BH experience: 1. If you are seeking happy hour joy on a warm day and wish to sit outside, quit your job and arrive early. Say 3 or 4. Drink considerable amounts of alcohol and eat as you go. Watch the hundreds of people stare at you as they arrive waiting for you to leave. But you never do. And now, you notice by checking your Iphone, it is 10:30. Bravo. 2. Go on a fancy date with a fancy person who has a fancy car. Make a fancy reservation and eat fancy things. Good job fancy man. 3. Go late and find a table in the bar at the back. Order steak frites and your favorite beverage and brood all alone. This can be done regardless of your profession, employment situation, or marital status. 4. Hang around in the street/parking lot and wait for someone to order Foie Gras. When they do, ask if they would like to be force fed their meal. (Please note, these sorts of shenanigans can lead to arrest. And, in Portland, arrest often leads to death.) Wow. I got all political on you. WIll you forgive me? Let's go eat.

My boyfriend and I grabbed a quick bite during horrendous downpour last night and had a very solid experience... I ordered the arancini(deelish) and the chopped salad, while my man ENJOYED the spaghetti and meatballs... Now I'm mad...and I'll tell you why. I'm pureblood Italian woman with a penchant for making legendary meatballs, therefore I'm P-I-C-K-Y! Bluehour's balls are the best I've had in town, no joke. I'm a humbled guidette. The service was perfect. I accidentally knocked my water into my man's pasta plate and it was quickly scooped up and replaced promptly. These guys are soo on it! Before we move away, we will frequent this place as much as possible.

HAPPY HOUR Enjoy the stellar ambiance of this special Portland stand-out, for way less money at Happy Hour! Get HALF-OFF FOOD (extensive bar menu $1-$10) with lots of bar basics done with a gourmet flair: burgers, bruschetta, pizza, salad, fries, fondue and cheese plates. DRINK SPECIALS like $3 beer, $20 bottles of wine and $6 specialty cocktails. Gorgeous lighting at night and fun patio by day. Top notch in every way. Stunning interior with showpiece, big-city style. It's in my TOP TEN HAPPY HOUR List on my website, as ALL of Bruce Carey's restaurants could be on that list (also has 23 Hoyt, Clark Lewis and Saucebox), but they have to share the spotlight.

3.5 stars. Bluehour is a beautiful restaurant. Very trendy. We dined late on a Wednesday evening and sat at a table in the bar area. Our server was pretty disinterested in the whole waiting-on-tables thing lol. The fried olives are yummy. It is a unique bar snack that I've never seen on a menu before. Definitely give them a go. The oyster shooter is also good. The vinagrette that tops the oyster is flavorful and tastes very bright. For my entree, I had Egg & Potatoes which consists of veggies (asparagus, peas, etc), gnocchi, and a tempura egg. The veggies were very fresh and the gnocchi was great. The tempura egg was, however, overcooked and saturated with frying oil. It tasted mostly of oil and was very heavy. Without the egg, the plate was delicious. With the egg, it was just alright. Overall, Bluehour is decent. I wouldn't be opposed to giving it it a second try should I find myself in the Portland area again.

The ambience here was excellent and this place is most likely great any other day. But if you're going to charge $30-$40 an entree then the service needs to be stepped up. After spending $200 for a dinner for two I'm left with a sour taste solely due to the service. It was probably just my waiter but I get better service at Denny's.

This is a great spot for happy hour, or if your looking for a nice swanky place for dinner! The food was amazing!!! Every thing We ate was amazing! The Pasta Tagliatelli was beyond fantastic! Last night we were "those customers". We came in 5 minutes before the dining room closed for dinner service (9:25PM) and the server treated us beautifully! The ambiance is romantic and the restaurant is so sexy. The food was very, very good as well. We started with the foie gras terrine and arugula salad (burrata?), both which were really great. I was a little disappointed when the salad did not come with the almonds that was listed on the menu though. The gelee with the foie gras was so fun. For my entree I got the pork chop with farro which was soooo good!!!!! Yum!! The farro was seasoned with spices that reminded me of Indian cuisine and the pork chop was perfectly cooked!! My boyfriend went with the New York Pave which he loved. I thought it was very good, but I think the pork chop was better. ;) The menu also said that it came with foie gras butter, but we didn't taste any foie gras- but it was still very very good. We had a really great experience and look forward to returning. :)

Have been here a couple of times. Sat inside one time and outside on the veranda another. Good service- attentive and friendly, not pretentious as these restaurants often can be- but definitely not quick at all. The food is good, but I'm going to have to dock some points because it's very pricey for what you're getting- although the prix fixe menu isn't a bad deal. I had the foie gras, which was mediocre and quite expensive (I've spent quite a bit of time around good foie gras- so perhaps my standards are too high). The two mains I had were: a) roasted halibut- which was tasty/well-executed but not a standout. That's basically how I'd describe all the food I've had- good but not really great. Good- but not especially memorable. Modern/contemporary design, which can feel a bit stuffy.

Can't believe I haven't reviewed Bluehour yet! Anyway, yum!! Took a friend here for lunch - which is the meal I prefer to eat here. It feels incredibly decadent to enjoy a glass of wine and something light and yummy from here! My friend ordered the risotto and loved every bite and I decided to detour from my normal Caesar Salad (which is divine) and had the burger. It is fantastic. Cooked to perfection, nicely seasoned and worth every calorie (even the fresh cut fries). Care to indulge and really pack on the carbs - eat the bread that begins your stroll down gourmet road. It is crispy on the outside and fresh and soft on the in. Seriously worth trying. I almost bought some to take home and fool my dinner guests that I baked but no way they'd believe me. Enjoy!

I went there a couple of times. Their food - good, drinks - good, services - not great. Actually, the today's server made me think that I didn't have to come back to this place. They should educate their servers. I think I can get good food and better services somewhere else.

I have been to Bluehour a handful of times and always thought it was very good. Last night I dined there with out of town clients and was sorely disappointed. The menu has changed and is now quite limited. The entrees were expensive and portions were TINY. Service was ok, but not very friendly. I will not go back. There are too many other great restaurants in Portland.

One of my favorite restaurants ever. I've been here several times and each time I am happier than ever. The drinks are delicous and the food is like nothing I've had before. Not only is it tasty it is innovative. It's the only place I have ever been to that serves great northwest ingredients with a French twist. The restaurant is beautiful and relaxing and the service is top notch. Always get their foie gras dish, their menu changes constantly but any foie gras preperation they have at Bluhour is genuis.

Unimpressive and Overpriced. Especially for dinner. While that assessment seems overly harsh (even to me, who fell in love with this place when it first opened) it is the truth. I am, of course, referring to the quality and pricing of the food. Food is mediocre and unoriginal. But for me, the worst offense is that I have to pay so much for such boring and not-too-tasty food. However, the service is consistently next to top notch and the atmosphere is dominated by an urban, hip, coolness that tends to be clearly expressed by the trendy clientle decked in the sexy overpriced look of the moment. I adore the decor which is swank in all its metal and wood and its textured curtains (which cleverly divide the otherwise open spaces of the restaurant into intimate dining alcoves). Catch the vibe without the cost: head there for cocktails and appetizers, skip dinner, or catch a late night drink and sit around lookin' chic and checking out the other scene-sters.

I really love the burger, one of the best in Portland. I also like their happy hour especially on Friday night when one of those burgers will cost you a fin. Add a mini ceaser salad and a cocktail and you've got yourself a swell dinner at a paltry price. Great ambiance, not too loud and excellent service.

It's funny how people's opinions diverge so greatly based on expectations. When I see Bluehour, I think swanky. By association, swanky means a bit spendy. I figure that these two words pretty much sum up most of the businesses in the Pearl District, and if I go, then I know what to expect. Bluehour came in right within those expectations for me. I hosted a strategic planning session recently in Bluehour's back room (aka L'Heure Bleu) for my Board of Directors. These people know their swanky, and they aren't easily fooled. We did lunch, drinks and dinner, and we were in the room for almost 7 hours. The staff made the experience really pleasant, and the food was excellent. Was it expensive? Yep. We paid north of $2,500 for the experience. Was it worth it? Another yep. I'd recommend them to anyone who is looking for a high-end dining venue. Remember, people... cheap happy hours are a "loss leader". There's no such thing as a free lunch... especially when it's this swanky.

My bartender was a bard of booze, describing the wine I ordered as the Gewurztraminer of Reds, or a full bodied wine that drinks light, which would be utter nonsense except that he was totally spot on. The bar food was shockingly good - their bar "pizzeta" was a pie any good pizza place would aspire to. The bartenders were knowledgeable and helpful. Oh, did I mention I sat at the bar?

I love this place... sorry to those of you who are all for the picketing, but I LOVE foie gras. And they make it perfectly. Great drinks, amazing wine selection, fantastic entrees, and wonderful service. Our waiter was David - he's been there for years, knows his stuff, and it was a pleasure to sit at one of his tables. I recommend this place to anyone who doesn't mind splurging on a wonderful dinner... and for those with a little tighter wallet, check out their happy hour :)

Not HH review... Very disappointed not by service or by the taste and quality of the food but rather by the pricing and noise in dining area at tables near the kitchen and 10 top. We did get re seated on request. Entrees come w no sides. Had leg lamb $39 and duck breast $30. Both entrees excellent but overpriced. Excellent service from Jeremy. Enjoyed the experience but will not go back because of price. We expect to spend$-$$$$ money on good food but just didn't see value here.

This is my all time favorite place to go for happy hour. I always get the pizza, fondue, fries, the meat platter, and a bottle of wine :) The fries are a must because the chef makes his own seasoning. It is very delicious. The fondue is excellent. They bring bread, but if you ask for apples, they pair so very well with the cheese. The service is always excellent and i leave with a big smile on my face :) If you go for dinner, it is pretty expensive so I recommend the happy hour. totally worth it :D

Great happy hour! I just love it when I find an overly expensive restaurant that serves an awesome happy hour. This place has it all: the fancy atmosphere, plenty of tables for the happy hour rush, and delicious food and drink for cheap. I came here in a group of 10 ladies for a friend's birthday and the waiters gave us no qualms about setting up a huge table, even if we were just there for the happy hour menu. We split a couple bottles of wine ($20 bottles of red, white and sparkling) because they don't offer discounts on glasses of wine, but this works out if you go in a group! The food menu has items ranging from $1 to $5 so you can mix and match dishes and spend as little (or as much) as you'd like. Our group sampled most of the menu and I'd say the best choices were the $2 roasted vegetable slider, the $1 paprika chickpeas (crunchy and flavorful!), the goat cheese/tomato dip with crispy bread, and the $5 margarita pizza (the best bang for your buck). The atmosphere of this place is a little too shwanky for my taste, and the drink deal isn't the best of the Portland happy hours, but the food is fabulous and the service was great!

in my humble opinion, it's a bit overrated. pretty good food, but surprisingly somewhat limited menu options. honestly burgers, fondue and ceasar salad can be had pretty much anywhere for less money and bigger portions, although the ceasar dressing was pretty tasty! i suppose when i hit my next jackpot i'll go back and try more of the "frenchy" foods on the menu which are probably more unique and exciting. i will say though, the desert was BOMB. chocolate and salted caramel torte? yes please, i'll have five. i will recommend bluehour solely based on the desert menu!!

Definitely a fan, although expensive. Everything was great and the service was excellent. Food was perfectly cooked and dessert was great. Cheese plate was nice and smelly, or maybe that was my friend, Jason. Either way, a great experience and will go back.

Love the 'Savannah Sunset', oyster shooters and Basil the waiter! We were all visiting from out of town except one and stumbled on this spot while walking around. Came in with a group of 8 women and a baby and they accommodated us with a great table, excellent service and a creative and tasty menu. Excellent drink list- something for all tastes! Great for groups or a date night. I would love to go back again and again if only I lived closer!

Came here for happy hour with the boy and his friends but I didn't order anything cuz I was saving my appetite for dinner. He ordered the spaghetti though and it was the best tasting noodles I've ever had. Perfectly al dente. Most of our party were dressed super casual, but they still gave us great service. I'd come back again to order the full sized spaghetti if I'm ever in the area again.

Definitely will be back for happy hour Decor was wonderful for a girl's get together. I love the high ceilings. Waitstaff was great. Food was amazing. We couldn't stop eating the oysters. Happy hour menu was extensive and reasonably priced.

I have been to Bluehour three times. I have a rule that if I have a poor experience at an business I will always give it the benefit of the doubt and try it one more time before I make a decision on it. After all, even the best places have off days or a bad employee. I should have stuck to my rule with Bluehour and stopped at two visits. I must first clarify that I gave this two stars instead of one star because the food is good, although over priced for what you get. As for the negative, the service is very poor and pretentious. On my first visit I was with two coworkers for an after work gathering at about 5:00pm. We were dressed casually in jeans and t-shirts and the hostess told us several times that there were no tables available although two thirds of the restaurant was empty. When we told her we would wait she acted annoyed. After 20 min. and seeing several other people get sat who did not have reservations and came in after us, we approached her again. She said she had forgotten about us and that there were still no tables available. We were sitting less than 10 ft away. We asked if we could set in the bar and told us that she could not guaranty that we would get service. The only thing we could deduce was that we did not fit their ideal clientele. After the next party that came in was sat, we expressed our dissatisfaction and she begrudgingly found us a table. The table service was not much better. On my second visit I was with a 20 person bridal party. We got sat promptly but the service was slow and we had to assist in separating our check at the end of the evening, even though we had requested separate checks. My wife made reservations for our last visit to celebrate our anniversary. We showed up 15 mins before our reservation and were told we would be seated in just a moment. After 20 min. I checked in only to be told that our table was not quite ready. I then sat back down and overheard the hostess tell the seater that our table had mistakenly been given to another party without a reservation. 20 min. later we were finally sat in a table next to the kitchen entrance. My wife was very excited and we were going to not let this effect our night. Unfortunately, it did not get better. Apparently since our table was added and not part of the traditional floor plan no server was assigned to us. We waited for 30 min before I flagged down a staff member. It then took another 15 min for them to find someone to wait on us. We never received any apology or any acknowledgement of our inconvenience. In fact, the server told us he had a very full section and acted inconvenienced. At the end of the evening it was difficult to even be mad because the entire experience was so comical. I probably should have rated Bluehour one star but it was worth an extra star for the story I now have.

I LOVED the curtains and the mirrors. Even the sanded down tree stump to rest my feet on. My husband & I lounged around in their ultra cushy chairs, looking out at the street, enjoying a perfect cocktail. It was pretty quiet for a Friday night at 10pm though. I will definately return here again, hopefully to try their happy hour.

I had planned to have a celebration for a party of 12 there the night of my law school graduation, so my boyfriend and I went to check it out. (I had been there for drinks several times, but had never seen the space that we were going to reserve for the dinner). Was so disappointed have decided to do the graduation dinner elsewhere. . . First, if you want a fun, contemporary, atmosphere, it's great. In other words, if you are one of those Portlanders that wishes you really lived in LA, you'll love it here. However, you can get food twice as good for half the price at any number of other places in town. The ceasar salad is overdressed--the one at Ken's pizza is 100 times better. The steak frites come with about 8 paper-thin slices of steak--I don't consider myself a big eater, and without the salad I would have left hungry. Go to Castagna if you want that. Finally, I had always thought at least the service at Bluehour was good--however that was shattered when our waiter (at 9:45) approached us and told us, "we already had last call but if you want I'll let you have another drink." Wait--I thought the point of last call was to actually INFORM the customers that it was last call? I will return here if I want to have some fun cocktails in a good atmosphere. However, if I want good food and nonpretentious service, I'll stick to the east side of the river.

Sharing a name with one of my favorite times of day, Bluehour is similarly romantic and classy. No, I have never come here during "blue hour", which--in case you didn't know--occurs after sunset when everything has a dark blue sheen; on the contrary, both times I ate here were for breakfast (brunch?). Bluehour is located in the Pearl District, surrounded by kitschy shops (one toy and knickknack shop around the corner whose name escapes me is particularly fun) and old warehouses. Even the restaurant itself looks to have been a renovated warehouse with its minimalist decor and high ceilings. I'm unsure whether they're still on the menu, but I've always had the eggs benedict-like dishes. You had your English muffin, poached egg, and hollandaise sauce but you can add fish or something else. It's quite light for something that has butter sauce as an ingredient--don't forget to ask for it on the side! The other items on the list, like the brioche French toast, look equally appetizing. I swear, beauty must be one of the job requirements to work there, because both times I was seated by a tall, gorgeous girl, who I assumed was a model just paying the rent between gigs, while David Beckham's long-lost cousin took my order. Needless to say, I probably avoided eye contact with him, blushed profusely, and tried to eat as daintily as I could. Prices are a little steep, so for dinner, I would only go on an especially sophisticated night out. Even though the ambiance may not be quite the same, going for the more reasonably-priced brunch is a safer bet.

Absolutely horrific service on a languid Thursday evening. The waitress was clearly more interested in what the bartender and the other wait staff had to say than serving customers. The place was not busy at all and we kept having t flag her down. I will never go back.

So it was certainly a good omen to get a parking spot right across the street, I was the first of my party to arrive and was seated quickly. Not much has changed in the way of design of the space and it is still looking pretty fresh inside, though the bathrooms seem to be showing a bit of wear and tear (but honestly its a bathroom as long as it is clean I am happy, I don't go to a restaurant to sit in the bathroom all day, in fact that is the reason to go to a good restaurant not a bad one -- to avoid being in the bathroom all day-- but I am loosing focus)....back to Bluehour. Our server was attentive and was quick, polite and very efficient. We ordered and both tried the sun choke soup, which was really good, lighter than had been described but really refreshing and satisfying. For the main course I had the gnocchi with Fontina and black truffles, needless to say it was creamy, with light fluffy gnocchi and the truffles were just the perfect touch. My lunch companion enjoyed a twenty leaf salad or something like that. He enjoyed it very much but if it was me I would have ordered the awesome sounding lobster sandwich or maybe that turkey sandwich with the avocado. I had a couple of glasses of L'ecole 41's Chenin Blanc and he had a couple of Arnold Palmers. Honestly everything was great. Service, food and decor. We both had not been here in years but neither of us could explain why not. It certainly renewed both of our interests in making this place a more common occurrence, in dinning. I will certainly be back again soon and if you haven't been in a while or ever it is definitely worth the visit.

Guess what? Happy hour suuuuuuuuucks! What's the point? What IS the point? One fancy schmancy cocktail [that sucks] coupled with wells and ONE beer? Don't overdo yourself, seriously. Your food isn't anything to get excited for either. Nothing was special. A few pieces of meat on a plate. Some ridiculously hard balls of bread. Some cheese. A flat looking piece of pizza. Overly cooked sweet potato fries. Spare me the pretentious bullshit. Spare me. Not wanting to keep individual tabs, but willing to split the check up a couple ways? What is so difficult about splitting the check? I will never understand. NEVER. I'm pretty sure we were the loudest group of people this place has ever seen. Dropping f-bombs and whatever else x-rated stuff we could was probably icing on the cake. Did you see the windex sitting on the kitchen counter? Do you want that in your food? I don't. I just don't understand. I was a forgiving with high tea, because well, I was excited with high tea. But now? I'm over it. I am so over it. Over it. Thanks Pearl, you win. Again.

Great ambiance and amazing brunches, but a bit overrated. The brunch staff is very accommodating and they nmake you feel very at home. I went there with seven other girl friends. We have a blast laughing it up and having a good time. We did have to check ourselves at times, to ensure our volume wasn't vibrating. Wish we could have been ourselves without all the formality and propriety. I think if that was possible, it would have given the place more life. It's definitely a place to be seen, you can see by the way the customers act. I find it funny that the servers are more real then the people who go here.

PDX is a destination for a lot of different folks. Ever have the following conversation as a visitor or with one? "Oh Dude! You're in Portland? You've gotta check out _________." Riders: Burnside Skatepark Eclectics: The Velveteria Botanist / Cruel parents of bored teenagers: The International Rose Test Garden Architects: The Widen + Kennedy Office That last one is damn near impossible to get into, given the obviously private global marketing HQ nature of the place. But lucky for the shooed away Bluehour is designed by the same folks (Allied Works Architecture) and is located within the same heavy timber skyscraper (no joke) as W+K. Hitting up happy hour on a late Sunday afternoon is an interesting event. The spot is empty at 4.30 but quickly fills up as the night goes on with the pearly usuals. For being a swanky spot, the happy hour pad and pen where you check off your selection and order from the waitress seems a little strange. Aside from a list of appetizers and dishes, well drinks are on for $4 and a specialty cocktail for $5. It's not a knock your socks off happy hour, but for the Pearl it's alright... I suppose that's how I feel about the whole experience in general. Staff is friendly, but not really go out of their way awesome, drinks are good but not amazing, the place is cool but not the swankiest I've seen. I suppose there's something to be said about the experience of place. No matter how bomb people say a spot might be, it ultimately comes down to you having to be the one to decide just how cool it is. Maybe you like the Tigard Skatepark (it's got a concrete t-rex, just sayin') better than Burnside, or Voodoo Doughnuts over the Velveteria... it's really your call. In my case Bluehour won't ever be my first pick, but will do just nicely when I want a drink in a building that's as close as Portland will ever get to "starchitecture". Plus it's a great spot to fearlessly bust out your camera and take pictures of the ceiling while licking your W+K denied entry wounds.

I'm going to admit up front I've never been to BLUEHOUR for anything other than happy hour. But there happy hour is so good, I don't need anything else! In some ways, this place is so indicative of what the Pearl is to Portland. The hostess is always a super attractive girl in something super tight or super skimpy. The lighting is dim and the sound level is just appropriately loud. I love the atmosphere - the breezy curtains, the tables, the mirrors. But what I enjoy the most is the patio with the heat lamps. Those baby's are priceless! I like that the happy hour menu is easy to navigate and you can order things in a variety of prices. The sangria in the summer is fantastic, and the bartender makes a killer martini. If they brought back the fondue option, I'd go back tomorrow!

I must say, attending the UYE happy hour tour of Portland is THE way to experience some of our great city's happy hour offerings -- and Bluehour provided a lovely evening's diversion. Somewhat formal decor, with white linens and uncluttered space; very courteous and solicitous servers. Happy hour drink offerings: $20 wine bottles (some delightful choices available), a beer of the evening, a cocktail of the evening (I tend to prefer several choices, as I'm not always assured of loving the evening's selection). The cocktail of the evening was a "spice car" -- a spiced sidecar, containing the perfect balance of sweet and tart. I loved it, and ordered two. Several options for inexpensive nosh: a really wonderful crisp thin margherita pizza, sweet fresh oysters, an elegant cheese plate, a "butcher's plate" (paper-thin savory smoked meats with whole seed mustard and sweet-tart mini-peppers), delicious fondue (served with bread and tart apples, and they even brought me steamed Brussels sprouts as well). Good food, good drink, and good company... I left completely satisfied. Thank you, everyone.

The HAPPY HOUR here is amazing. I ordered the fried olives, goat cheese fonduta, veggie slider, and the artisan cheese plate all for $8!!! The drink I had was great as well. Their bartenders seem to be skilled mixologists. I loved the decor, atmosphere and neighborhood! I would definitely visit here again soon!

Happy Hour review: It's cheap and it's good. Go for the fondue which is 1/2 price..for less than $10 bucks you can have a fondue meal for two w/ bread, asparagus, steak bites, you can't beat the pricing on this. All appetizers are 50% off, totally worth it, totally good. One special cocktail is priced low and one beer. Overall two people can get out of there spending about $20-$25 bucks w/ drinks. I love the happy hour here and the full size appetizers and fondue well worth it.

We had dinner last night at Bluehour. The table was quite nice with views out the exterior windows and yet secluded. Our server, Kris, was excellent: knowledgeable and most cordial. He recommended a fine Ken Wright pinot by the glass. As an aside, the wine list is overpriced although a fine 2010 Sineann Resonance pinot was on the list and, if anything, underpriced. Our dinners were quite nice as my wife had a New York steak although the presentation was a bit lacking. I ordered the Chef's Choice with butter lettuce salad, lamb shank (perfectly cooked) and a nice dessert. One drawback: the kitchen forgot us and the wait for the salads was way too long. Once discovered by our server, the manager approached our table with apologies and an offering of a glass of wine. Overall, well handled. We'll return for sure given the nice ambiance and the (generally) attentive service.

The restaurant food is decent, but overpriced. However, the bar scene is one of the best in the Pearl: It has a chic, New York vibe, with good drinks and happy hour food. There is good outdoor seating options, even in cooler weather because there are heat lamps by every table.

This place is swanky, trendy, slick, and borderline ridiculous. Just the way I like to spend a Friday night! I'm so glad I came here for dinner and a drink my last night in Portland. Pictures really don't do this place justice. It's one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever been to. As Brian R. said, it's really is ultra modern, white, trendy, candle lit... just awesome. I was in awe of the height of the ceilings. This place is huge! I started with the Diva, which was house infused vodka with fresh ruby red grapefruit juice and lime. YUM. Nothing gets better than FRESH squeezed juice and alcohol, especially ruby red grapefruit, with a sugar rim. It was sweet and pulpy, without being overwhelming. Thanks to my waitress for recommending it. For my entree, I got the pan fried rissoto cakes. I was served two perfectly formed, crispy risotto cakes with a side salad of baby green and mushrooms and a thick slice of fennel. The rissoto cakes (2) were good, although they were quite oily... way too oily for my liking. The taste was good (butternut squash, green lentils), but without the caper "dressing" they probably would have been a little bland. However, the fennel was a great touch, and the salad was good... although that was a little oily as well. I was watching what everyone else was ordering. What caught my eye- the cheese plates, burgers and fries, fondue (it's HUGE!) and gnocchi. This place is awesome. Other than my dish being a tad too oily for my taste, my Bluehour experience really was fabulous. I look forward to coming back on future trips. Regarding other peoples comments about the clientel being asses, pretentious, snobby. I don't agree with that at all. I actually interacted with a quite a few other diners and they were all extremely pleasant.

Just left Bluehour on Valentines Day with my husband. We had made reservations two weeks in advance which were apparently lost, therefore we were forced to eat the Prix Fixe menu in the bar. Not only was the service horrible, but we did not receive all the options on the menu that we paid for because clearly the bar staff was not educated as to what was on the menu. We were so disappointed and paid an astronomical amount for mediocre food in a casual, breezy, and unattended atmosphere. Will NEVER go back to this establishment.

3 stars = fine but not outstanding. We went with the "fixed price" meal (pardon my french). We should have asked what it was ahead of time. Our entree was the sea bass which was a little dull. Accompanied by white beans (tuscan?) which were also dull. The cheese course was very good. So out of the 4 parts of the meal, only one was impressive. I think I could have spent $15 less on the meal somewhere else and enjoyed it more. I would rather have gone to Urban Farmer or Andina. The service was very good.

We have been here twice, and the service was atrocious both times. The first time we came the drinks were decent (although not good enough to even come close to making up for the service), but it took the waitress several minutes to even bring a menu (we were 30 seconds from leaving when she finally turned up). She was very sweet so we decided to stay, but after we finished our drinks & sat there with empty glasses for 10 minutes, we decided to get the check and leave. Last night we tried bluehour again to see if our experience had just been a fluke, but after 10 minutes of being completely ignored we gave up and walked out. Unacceptably bad service, Bluehour.

First time at Bluehour, did happy hour planning to meet someone, however she was unable to make it. Spent about 2 hours hanging out reading my iPad on free wireless while enjoying 5 of the authentic Moscow mules. I have recently been into developing the perfect Moscow mule as it's my fav summer drink, moving to pear vodka as we hint towards winter, loving it even more. Truthfully, it's all about the ginger beer, I've tried them with all ales.. not the right bite.. with Ginger People beer.. Closer but not quite right.. Moved to Bundaberg ... Better, a bit sweeter with a nice bite.. Then fell into Fever Tree Ginger Beer while checking the gourmet food deals at Marshalls, truly excellent, a unique taste with a killer ginger bite. With this said tonight, I was treated to the ORIGINAL Moscow mule with Cock n' Bull ginger beer. Very nice touch! .... I digress. I eat out quite a bit at all sorts of establishments from the most surprisingly tasty to the finest. I like to try highly rated restaurants happy hours first to understand their passion for excellent food and a great customer experience. Its relatively basic to do it right when someone is watching "dinner service" but to take the care and effort with happy hour separates a good restaurant from a great one, in my humble opinion. I was served by Jessi, what a find for Bluehour, perfect timing on food and drinks, honest eye contact all while helping another new employee work through what looked like one of her first nights. Her attentive well timed service was the highlight of the night. I had the crispy oyster, lamb slider "sandwich", fried chickpeas, and wild mushroom spaghetti. Oyster, good flavor, better sauces, corny with the plastic leaves, vine.. .???? not sure really what was on the side... Lamb slider, excellent, slider cooked perfectly and super juicy for a slider which is hard to do, good pickled cauliflower, nice ciabetta. Fried chickpeas, not my cup of chai tea... Wild mushroom spaghetti, WOnDerFul, perfectly cooked al dente pasta, even had fresh local chanterelles included, nice touch. All said, I'm going back for a nice dinner when we hook up again. :)

I went back for happy hour again.... and again, they just handed us a regular menu without mentioning that it was happy hour. Next time, I'm going to see if I get charged full price if I don't mention it. However, the food is great. I had steak frites with bearnaise.... awesome. My husband had oysters and the pork shoulder sandwich and also loved both. I wish this place didn't have such a snobby feeling to it.

I really wanted to like this place, as the menu has many of the things I like: foie gras, cheeks (beef or pork, I don't care...), cheese. But, my experience was less than spectacular. None of the dishes were memorable and my entree (cheeks!) was so salty it was nearly inedible. On the bright side, the staff was sincere, friendly and knowledgeable which is a HUGE plus in the city of lackadaisical service. It's also a beautiful, stylish space. However, in this town you've got to hit it out of the park and our meal was a single with a stolen base, tops. I probably won't return anytime soon, as there are way too many places I either know are consistent or I want to try out.

I really liked it here. It was NOT pretentious at all.. unless it's cuz my friend and I are both pretentious anyway so we fit right in? We came here on a friday night, probably after 8pm. Landed a table right away. Blondie and I stopped by here to drink some more and encounterd protesters protesting selling/consuming Fois gras. So FUN, SO FESTIVE!!! There's not many of them so it's not some scary scene. I was sad because they were gone by the time we left at about 10. I like a good chant. Anyway, service was wonderful. Our server was very nice and sweet, extremely attentive and apologized because she thought she was rushing us in ordering more drinks. I'm leaving off a star because I haven't dined here yet. I had the diva martini and it was really good, stiff and tart. Great crowd, great atmosphere and service. Don't be intimidated by the place, we saw a girl wearing adidas slippers in the place. She just needed to be smacked across the face to be reminded that those are not appropriate for friday night outings. Lazy ass.

I only stopped here for a cocktail...i'm a fan. I was alone, ordered a martini. Some business men shared their tapas with me (fun mushroom something) and i had a glass of cab. Lovely evening. Not my crowd, but a fun hang.

I setup a client meeting at BlueHour because one of my co-workers recommended it. Warning bells should've gone off though - she'd recommend McFaddens. But no, it was a busy week, so my brain said "good idea". This should give you an idea of what to expect; there was a patio with cute seating, but the tiny tables were bolted to the ground and entirely too close together. Blue Hour looks fun, but is actually a huge disappointment. We came at happy hour, but the menus we were given offered no distinction between regular fare and the fun stuff. Ironic, that the women seated beside us were happily flipping through that new Portland Happy Hour guide + taking pictures to mark this place off their list. I still dont know how I feel about that. My companions ordered that pino hybrid wine (which they loved), I ordered the Claudette (which was actually pretty awesome). Good start. Then we ordered the cheese plate, meatballs, and the bruchetta. Found out that bruchetta doesn't mean vegetable concoction on toasted bread. Turns out it really means roasted pork with aioli mayo, arugula, and fried potato medallions. Call me old fashion, that's an open faced sandwich. The drinks came after about 10 minutes. The food? Pretty much when the waiter felt like it. We got the cheese plate first, followed by the meatballs and open faced sandwich 15 minutes later. The food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't great. Actually on par with a deli. The worst part, however, was how the waiter faded in and out of attentiveness as our stay went on. It took one of our party waving her arms and loudly trying to get his attention before he finished serving us. Took him another 15 minutes to bring me orange juice. This place wasn't packed, so unless he was squeezing the oranges by hand after picking them fresh from the grove, there's no excuse. Oh yeah, and the fondue? I've had melted string cheese with more flavor. Though the hair in the cheese and in the sliced apples was a nice touch. When I mentioned the hairs, the waiter offered us new apples. Really? McDonald's has a better "make the customer happy" policy. Moral: skip this place. If you want NW fondue and drinks, go to Urban Fondue and Martini Bar.

I am a bit biased since my experience was problematic... I grew up a strict vegetarian and over the years have started to take on new things... first sushi (then all kinds of fish/seafood), then added on chicken. However I just have not made it to pork or beef, so when at a restaurant I double check the menus to make sure everything is kool. So we were there for an early dinner 6:30 or so, place was still pretty empty... ordered drinks and my wife wanted something that was not too tart, and not too sweet... a good bartender would have no problem with that, maybe it wasn't his night or drink. Not impressed with the drinks. Fine little mini appetizer from the chef... and then we ordered food, I got the monkfish and my wife got the chicken. Food arrived and I started eating, and thinking hmm this is really interesting fish (never had monkfish before)... and offered my wife a bite (after I had eaten like 5 bites)... she pointed out that the "skin" was actually bacon. Anyways I am sure most of ya'll have no problem with that and in fact probably like the idea... for me it was most appetite ruining to say the least. We had a little chit chat with the waiter in which he proceeded to tell me that was what the menu said (bacon wrapped monkfish), and lo and behold the menu just said monkfish. Anyways they offered more drinks on the house, but we opted to move on... they comped the meal, but I won't be going back... especially with those loud protesters yelling about foi grois (sp). I mean really isn't there something a little more important to protest???? like Darfur??? or McCain's credit card bills?

Came for the cheese which exceeded high expectations, and the journey to reach it was amazing; the frizee salad was truffle heaven, charcouterie great, fois gras perfect; and bacon-wrapped scallops incredible. Accompanied by an Erath Leland Pinot which was reliably great. The ambiance is casual elegance and the service quiet and reliable. Awesome experience.

I'm totally conflicted on this joint. Okay, so it can't really be called a "joint." So I'll start over. I'm totally conflicted on this "dining establishment." I brought Vegas Maria here for happy hour on a Tuesday night. Vegas Maria thinks everyone in Portland wears khakis, has dreads and wears socks with sandals. So I figured I'd prove her wrong. Except it was happy hour on a Tuesday so there was nobody in there except a table full of ladies with fanny packs (I sh$% you not). Anyway, I had the Prosecco to start. Then I had their happy hour drink which was a sparkling white Sangria. Holy yummy. Vegas Maria and I split the beef carpaccio. The idea of raw beef kind of skeeved me out, but it was damn good. Another friend showed up and she ordered the Pizza Margareta. Huge. $5.00 and huge. And yummy with big cloves of roasted garlic. However, I can see where this place might get Pretentious with a capital P. I know this because the tables are small. Small tables = Pretentious. See how that works? So that's the conflict. Good food, good drink, but the P word brings it down a notch.

I have been going to Bluehour since it opened, and Zefiro before that. And while they were doing brunch I was going every weekend. The restaurant is doubtless the most aesthetically appealing in Portland. The food and cocktails are also consistent. The aesthetic and comfort details are generally all spot-on. The issue with Bluehour has always been the service. The severs are cold and awkward, and even when they are nice, they seem fake. Yes, some of them look pretty, but their hauteur is overwhelming, and their technical skills are underwhelming, and often they are simply incompetent. They don't even get the simple things right, like ice in iced tea, asking if you need sugar or simple syrup with it. They seem to be incapable of thinking about what they are doing, of anticipating anything before the fact, it as if you must prod them along at every step. The restaurant is not cheap, and in all honesty restaurants in Portland are all overpriced for the city, half the restaurants charge New York prices, but in New York you actually get good service in the 'good' restaurants. The prices would be fine at Bluehour if the service was up to par. Surely (as I know who they are) the owners are sophisticated people, they must have eaten at and stayed at a Four Seasons before, don't they know what good service is? Don't they know it is not even enough to go through the motions accurately (which they don't even do) you also need to provide genuine, seamless service that makes your customers feel at ease, that makes them feel reassured about their experience, which ends up resulting in a better tasting meal. I will still give it five stars in a vote of hope that they can conjure up the substance to match the surface of such a beautiful place and often some very excellent food as well.

We went to Bluehour for our Anniversary. It was perfect. The service was great and the food was superb! Shared the Hanamachi Crudo...incredible, shared the Sweet Corn Tortellini...so good! Then we had the Halibut and Salmon, both wonderful...seared to perfection and moist inside. We also added the pureed Yukon Gold Potatoes...wow. I know some reviews are mixed, and I had some reservations about the place, but once we sat down for our meal it was a great experience. Also the room is very cool and strangely intimate for being so large. The one thing I would mention is that the menu does not do the food justice. In fact after reading the menu I was initally hesitant to go to Bluehour. So please ask the waiter to explain the dishes before you choose...you don't want to miss this place.

I love the atmosphere here, very urban and contemporary. Not too dark, not too loud, upscale but not too pretentious. I go here a lot with my girl friends for happy hour. Their happy hour is hard to beat with pretty good food starting at only a few bucks and decently priced drinks. The food still hasn't exactly swept me off my feet, it is a bit bland but they are open and receptive to suggestions. If the food had a bit more flavor I would give 5 stars, other then that I love this place!

I came here for the Portland Dining Month Menu, and it was spectacular. The Sweet Pea Tortellini tasted like fresh peas, and the ham broth was tasty that I used my bread to soak up every drop of it. The duck entree was perfectly seasoned and cooked, and the rhubarb mustard sauce was the perfect sweet, tangy complement. The strawberry almond galette was very good, but a little mild in flavor for my personal taste. Since I have a sweet tooth, I would have preferred it to be sweeter, or I would have liked a stronger almond flavor. Though this place is quite upscale, many people were casually dressed, even in T-shirt and jeans. It great to go to such a fine restaurant that doesn't judge. Plus, the service was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place!

Blue Hour is lovely. The atmosphere (unless it's crazy crowded) is divine. I have to get on the bandwagon about ordering their spaghetti and order it extra spicy. I have nothing but good things to say about their fondue as well. The cocktail menu is inspired and unique.

Blue Hour is one of those rare restaurants where I can say that I have never had a bad meal. I've been going there for about 8 years, and have tried brunch, lunch and dinner. Moreover, my girlfriend and I tied the knot there in a private ceremony/dinner in their private dining space. The food is top notch without being pretentious, which is often the case with French restaurants in the US. As someone who is actually from France, I can attest to the fact that good service and food do not necessarily have to translate into obsequious, overpriced fare. Blue Hour is pricy, but reasonably so. I like the decor quite a bit, and their private dining room is spectacular: cozy, intimate and completely removed from the main restaurant, it has its own bar and even its own bathroom. Their staff was tremendous in helping us plan our event- Jillian K. especially. I highly recommend Blue Hour!

Amazing happy hour! The gnocchi was amazing, the dip, dip, dip was dippity delightful and the best part - on top of the gorgeous ambiance, the service was stellar! We lingered for more than two hours enjoying good conversation and we never once felt rushed or neglected. Thank you Blue Hour, I will be back!

WE went for sunday brunch and the food was pretty good. The service on the other hand was severely lacking. The hostess was awesome, but our server was maybe hungover or just really grumpy. He ignored us half the time even though the place was only half full. He divided the bill incorrectly (between only two people? common!) and never gave my friend back her change. Which then became the extent of his tip.

Not at all impressed. Drinks were OK. Horrible tables. Mediocre service. Mediocre food. Good dessert. I have had happy hour in their bar before and wasn't super impressed, but it wasn't bad either. I think they have a single $5 cocktail, but it's one of those places you go for food items. Recently I went and had dinner. Appetizers, Entree, Dessert - the whole works. Unfortunately they couldn't afford tables with out huge grooves in them. And they cover it with a table cloth so I had to move my drinks around so that they wouldn't lean. A friend of mine forgot that you had to be really careful about where you put your drink and the whole cocktail slid towards her and in to her lap. Our server seemed to always come around after someone else helped us with whatever it was we needed, and the girl with the little breads completely skipped a person and just walked off. Steak, Salmon, and Gnocchi was nothing to write home about. But the dessert was good! They make their own ice cream... and I think that will be the only thing I will go back for.

It's crazy expensive. crazy. But it's rad. I always go with my bosses, so I never have to worry about the check, but if I did...whoa. It's plenty pretentious and very very posh pretty. If you go for breakfast get the Eggs Benedict. They were fan-friggin-tastic. Wash it down with a Spicy Thai Bloody Mary. Wowza! I'm going to have dirty dreams about that drink. Love it. If you go for lunch they have the Prefix menu. I am a huge fan of the roasted corn bisque, and the steak frite salad. My favorite thing to get is the crab cake sandwich. It's fresh and delicious and topped with yummy avocado. Seasonal Egg Nog creme brulee. Holla! Don't go unless you really want to drop some coin. Or you have a date that you want to think you are a pretentious baller. Or if you won the lottery. Or if you want to bring some one you really hate. Or if your boss is footing the bill. ;) word!

WORST SERVICE EVER .... would mark ZERO STAR. We had to wait more than 60 minutes to get food. We had to ask for water refill more than twice. We had to ask for a spoon for coffee. We had to ask for complimentary muffis that were served to all tables. Waiters, even a manager, don't smile at all. Manager seemed walking back and forth for nothing, didn't notice our empty glass and coffee. My hush was like charcoal and Waffle was like a blick. Food is overpriced. We will never come back and never recommend to friends.

Happy hour: 4:30-6:30 PM. That's the only time I've been there. They have this crazy cheese cart. It's like the POPE-MOBILE of CHEESE. Just imagine it. And a very knowledgeable and charming cheesemonger. ha ha ha. Yes CHEESEMONGER. That word makes me laugh everytime. Get the spice-car cocktail($5), best cocktail I've had in days. Get the fondue($7-part of the bar menu), so much it's a meal. They use extra tasty 'artisanal' cheese. Oh, and get the apples to go with it. Nice atmosphere, dim lighting, a little swanky, a little pricy and the layout doesn't make you feel like you're dining with everyone who's there. Good place to go if you're already in the Pearl district. Attractive, extra nice waitstaff, they get 5 stars.

Walking down 13th, you wouldn't notice Blue Hour, other than the folding sign at the corner of 13th and Everett. Steps take you up the loading dock area of the old warehouse, now home to a gallery, barbershop, a boutique and Bluehour. We actually walked right by it, then doubled back, drawn by the music. Bluehour is the perfect spot to spend a casual Saturday night. The house tunes are bumping, but not so loud that your screaming at your company, and the crowd seems a bit more sophisticated that some of the other joints downtown. I had the 12 year glenlivit, Des, the spicy Soltice. I must say, I thing Portland has a knack for their cocktail concoctions, one of which are the spicy drinks. I like every one I tried, including the Soltice at BlueHour. We also tried the Pizza Margarita, which was very good, but nothing to ride home about. The basil was fresh, but they didn't do sliced tomatoes, which is the way I prefer instead of the diced version. Our server was cute and attentive. She offered up a suggestion for a drink, and when I didn't like it, she took it away and off the bill without me even asking. Great job!!! I'll definitely come back next time we visit PDX.

Not sure what's happened to this place? I had been in for dinner once before and it was just clean nicely done food. Now...not really sure what it is. The menu is all over the board and seems to have quite a bit of Asian influence? Though I love Asian food, I would not go to a "French/Italian" restaurant to get it. I had the sweet corn tortellini first and the pasta tasted old and dry. My friend thought her hamachi was decent, but not great. Our main courses were the duck, which was overcooked and the lamb, which was undercooked and uninspired. I would have given 1 star if it wasn't for my cheese and her coconut lime dessert. Our bill was rediculous for what we got, not coming back.

Now, I didn't get the chance to eat here.. I just sat at the bar to have a glass of wine. $20 glass of pinot?? I chose the Malbec instead. The bartender was very attentive to my drinking needs, and the surroundings are comfortable cement chic! Next stop here will be for dinner.

After I posted my review I was almost immediately contacted by Bluehour management. She asked me, politely, for some deets about the evening, and asked if she could treat me and a guest to a dinner at Bluehour. Although I declined, politely, I do love that they contacted me and made the effort to make things right. So 2 stars for them. She also told me that the server that had waited on us was no longer at Bluehour...so there ya go.

I have to agree with the first writer's comment. Went to Happy Hour with a couple of friends and was very underwhelmed. Going to the HH area of the restaurant you have to traverse the restaurant. Bad design in my opinion. We were dressed pretty casually and the restaurant felt very elegant. I didn't feel comfortable making the walk. It was also pretty empty but the HH bar area was full with only one table left which had no chairs. After a search the waitstaff was able to find 3 for our party. The table was at the edge of the dining room. It was in fact an invisible line that divided the 2. Shortly thereafter a party arrived for dinner and was seated right next to us, although the dining room was still practically empty. The waiter then pulled a curtain that divided the 2 sections of the dining room between our table and that of the new arrivals. It felt like when you're on a plane and after take off the steward/stewardess closes the curtain between the coach and first class cabin. I was literally almost shoulder to shoulder with one of people at the other table with the curtain just separating us. The HH menu looked promising but when the food arrived it was just o.k. We ordered the burger, the lamb slider, the cuban sandwich and a couple of the fried oysters. I've had a better version of each. The best deal was a bottle of Cava for $20. If you want me to come back and pay the big bucks, you need to tantalize me with the small bites. And you need to make me feel comfortable. I looked around the dining room and it didn't look like anyone was really having such a good time in there. And the waiters are forced to wear these bulldog clips, to hold up their aprons I guess, except you don't need them because that's what the ties are for. It was just forced to me. Like, "Hey, isn't this cool. No one else wears bulldog clips as an apron accessory." I really wanted to like this place. Bummer.

Full Disclosure: Didn't eat dinner there. 3 drinks and some finger food in the casual seating areas. Blue hour is clearly trying to be something Portland does not do really well: a shi-shi bar/lounge/restaurant. It's got a few things right: for instance, the layout and decor of the place is cool, chic, and has the right level of privacy and people watching. I was served a really excellently made Sapphire and Tonic. While this isn't the hardest drink in the world to make, I usually get them either WAY too strong, or watered down. My love of this place fades from there. Bar service was AWFUL. I was there on a night where it was not busy, and I stood at the bar, $20 in hand for 15 minutes while the two bartenders had a lovely conversation 5 steps from where I was standing. One of them even looked at me. Thankfully, my 'fightin irish' days are over, and I was patient. Once I met my date and we sat down, the waitress didn't overwhelm me with her competence. The tables to either side of us were served bread while they waited for food. Not so much for us. Drinks remained empty, and the food took it's sweet time coming out. Speaking of food - who's heard of Bruschetta without tomato or red pepper? I wikki'd it, and apparently it can come more plain...but clearly i was underwhelmed. C'est la vie. My egg, mustard, shaved pork loin, and gruyere cheese sandwich (croque missiour) was quite nice though. Ending the night, the waitress got our check wrong. It was $10 *less* than it should have been. Mistakes get made, but we had already paid and were getting ready to leave when the corrected check needed to be filled out.

Bluehour definitely falls into the category of "Cool" places in Portland. We went there for lunch the other day for my company holiday party ... needless to say I wasn't that impressed. The menu is overpriced and limited. The service was terrible (our waiter apparently had only been there 2 weeks but was unable to answer ANY of our simple questions about the menu). The food took F O R E V E R ... and wasn't blow you out of the water good when it finally did come. The varied music made the ambiance everything from french bistro to night club. OH and it plays VERY loudly in the bathrooms. Though the unisex bathroom thing - kinda cool I have to say. They decided to "air" out the restaurant by leaving the front door open ... did I mention is was 40 degrees outside? When we asked if they could close it because we were chilled - the fashionable hostess said they were "airing out the restaurant" ... seriously? On the upside they had yummy lemonade and pretty decor. No need to spend my hard earned $$ there in the near future.

The good: Nice atmosphere, tall ceilings, beautiful hanging curtains, clean decor, light (I went for brunch), pleasant music. Good people watching. Home to well dressed folks and ladies with $300 haircuts. I felt very under dressed in jeans and t-shirt. (Somebody warn me about this next time) The bad: Food and service. The food was maybe a little overpriced, but not much for the kind of place. You don't expect $6 eggs and bacon at the Four Seasons, why expect it here? My quibble with the food, is that it didn't taste good. The bacon was thin and greasy, the OJ VERY tart, my waffle uninspired despite the fresh huckleberries and creme fresh. To be fair, the others at my table enjoyed their food. I am too picky, perhaps. The service was trying REALLY HARD to be the kind of service at good places that you never have to think about and is always one step ahead of you, but they just don't have it. There were flecks in all of our waters, occasional dish banging when they put the food down, and forgotten drinks. There was also a big long hair in my food. I understand that this all happens at any place occasionally, but all these pieces added up to an unsatisfactory $20 breakfast (per each). I won't be going back. Not my kind of place and not worth the cost of admission.

We came on a Saturday night and it was SUUUPER busy at the bar and no reservations...for 7..but luckily, the hostess was so nice (I forgot her name) she kept an eye out for us at the bar side and within five minutes she sat us down, took our coats and we were on our merry way of drinking and dining. The drink that we had (wasn't on the menu) was called sweet heat. VERY tasty I had two and my gfriend had three. We had to ration ourselves since we were bar hopping. People can be pretentious there..but that night..EVERYONE was really nice and considerate. While we were waiting for our coats, a very pretty lady came up to us and said people were leaving at the table next to her and wanted to know if we wanted the table! Very cool lady, too bad we were on our way out...we would have had some fun converstations. This is one of my regular spots to hang out..it's consistent and the food is always good! Drinks can vary depending on the bartender.

To start off, I wouldn't go here again. Way too expensive for what you get. I felt a bit underdressed in jeans and a polo. It didn't help that the group next to me was talking about 'culture' the whole time they were there. The food was definitely inspired, but sometimes their combinations didn't sound very appetizing. The staff was very helpful, but then again I was there between the lunch and dinner crowds, so they had the time to spend with us. Interesting notes about the bathrooms: There's a floor to ceiling mirror opposite the toilet. If the lighting was any brighter, you might be able to watch yourself pee. Also, watch out for the sink. The water pressure is super high, so lift the handle carefully or else it'll look like you don't know how to relieve yourself.

Nice ambience and good drink deals during happy hour. The happy hour food menu was filled with yummy choices at good prices. The oyster shooter was the best ever and so was the soft baked pretzel with truffle aioli. My mouth is watering as I type!

Had dinner here with the team and even after two nice bottles of wine (although that's only 2 glasses per person), I wasn't very impressed with the place. It was A-OK and hence, the 3-star rating. Maybe there's just too many other restaurants out there ... The venue is really nice! Salmon tartare was good but lacking a bit in taste (could use a bit more lime) and the seared scallops were too rich for me and I had the appetizer portion. Service was too slow. I think we waited a good half hour in between our appetizer and entree. I can see this being a good happy hour place but I don't think I'd be spending my own money to dine here.

In our weekend getaway to Portland we went to four recommended restaurants and this was very good. Extremely pompous venue and high class. There is rarely any privacy as tables are next to one another without no room space. The food itself was really good but quite pricey. Customer service was really good. The cheeses were the best part and they have a very good selection of them. Of all the foods we ordere the portion sizes were decent. Overall it was a really good restaurant and worth the experience.

Not just a great place for dinner! I had the most amazing brunch at the blue hour. I had eggs sardou with the braised artichokes complimented with a nice glass of champagne. I suggest sitting outside for some great people watching too. It is a little pricey, but on a nice sunny sudnay afternon, it is worth the extra $$.

Last night I had dinner at Blue Hour with 8 others, as a 60th birthday party for my friend. She had dined there many years ago for her anniversary and had loved it. I had only had happy hour several times in the past and also loved it. The room still is one of the loveliest restaurants in the City. I knew the chef had changed and was a bit nervous about what lay ahead. We all gave our drink orders and settled in. The menu seemed interesting, though the salad offerings were lackluster. Blue Hour had one of the signature Caesar salads in the area and I craved that, not a mixed field greens or boring butter lettuce salad. Wasn't there anything a bit more imaginative for this high end a restaurant? Our drinks arrived and our orders for dinner were taken. About 20 minutes later, we were each served one roll. Another 20 minutes and we had our appetizers delivered, not all at the same time, so that some were left without for perhaps another 5-10 minutes. My butter lettuce salad was just ok, nothing to write home about and certainly not worth $12.00. Another 1/2 hour or more, the waitress said the entrees would be coming out soon, knowing it had been too long. Then the entrees were delivered, minus one. After perhaps another 15 minutes, the waitress came out and said there had been a "little miscommunication" in the kitchen, and that the last entree would be out in just a few minutes. I opted for a farro risotto with wild mushrooms which was fine, but again, didn't knock my socks off. There was no attempt at making it look particularly attractive on the plate, which would have been fine if the food was superb. After everyone had finished their meal, out came that last entree. We asked that they box it up, as no one wanted to eat their meal while 8 others watched. Previous to coming, they had been called and asked if it would be alright to bring a special cake for the occasion and were told it would be $4.00/plate to serve it, so we decided to opt out and have dessert there. Which would have been fine if there was a dessert anyone wanted to eat. The choices were ludicrous. Prosciutto ice cream? Pot de creme with foie mousse? I think not. I prefer my liver as an entree, not a dessert. I know it's very "in" now these days, ever since Le Pigeon served their famous foie gras profiteroles, and he got away with it, but now everyone else has to add meat to their desserts. I'm surprised there wasn't a pork belly pie as well. One in the group decided to try it anyway, and we all tasted it and sorry, but it was unpalatable. I ordered the pot de creme, but asked that they hold the foie mousse. Out it came with the foie mousse on it. Nice pot de creme, but not for $9.00. Some ordered a port. We were delivered one full glass, and another half and were told they were out, but we wouldn't be charged. It took quite a while to get the check. They did take off the entree that hadn't come out on time, and the port which wasn't a full glass. But none of that mattered when the evening was full of mistakes, bad service and disappointing food. Then the waitperson told us she'd ask the hostess to get our coats. We waited and waited. No one had been told, so we finally asked the hostess ourselves. I'm sorry, but there are so many better restaurants at this price point, I would greatly hesitate wasting my time at this one. It's trying too hard to be precious, edgy rather than just making good food. Some of us left hungry, most disappointed at the meal, though we had a lovely time with each other.

The place is in a great area and decorated nicely. I went for lunch and a glass of wine and really enjoyed both. The turkey sandwich is great and the service is good. No music and no televisions are the only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars. Looks like a great place to take a date.

Very cool interior, good enough food but it lacks in service. I found the service to be rude and snobby. I won't be going back it's one of those places where it's cool to drop in once to experience the hype and realize there are better places to dine.

ehh... this place was ok, definitely not a wow moment. I read some reviews, and had remembered thinking it would be the place to go, plus the concierge at our hotel raved about this place. Well, ehhh, nothing special. I got some eggs and goat cheese and mushrooms thing, it was way too runny, and the bread it came with was burned! My boyfriend got a waffle with blueberries and it tasted alright, again nothing special. Other than that, we got a scone that was absolutely amazing, so that is probably the way to go food wise. The service there was really good, and I felt way underdressed in my hiking clothes, with everyone else all dressed fancy. The ambience was great, and the waitress helped give us an idea of good shopping places.

The happy hour here is one of the beat I have seen in Portland! We ordered food off the $2, $3, and $5 thinking that they would be small portions. We were dholes at how much food we actually got! The drinks are great too! My fav is the keepsake, and my fiancé loves the goodfella. Dinner is pretty pricey but amazing also. Caesar salad and truffle gnocchi are out of this world. Never disappoints!

When husband and I are lazy and we dont feel like cooking....off to blue hour. Now, I know the menu is pricy, but Happy Hour (4:30-6:30 M-F) is the best. The entire bar menu is half price, but yet full size portions. You can taste the quality of the food, it taste good. While, I dont eat meat--the burger looks good enough to even tempt me. They have one HH cocktail and one beer on tap. Classy, elegant, and you get the fun hob-nobish feel of the Pearl, but for a budget friendly price.

Although I love the vibe and the scene at Blue Hour, I think it's a bit overrated for what you get when it comes to the food and drink. To get the Blue Hour experience on the cheap, show up for happy hour in the lounge and graze on the Blue Hour burger...always a good bet on a menu of overpriced gourmet eats. For a laid back evening, check out the outdoor tables...outdoor heaters and umbrellas will shade you from the elements whether it's a sunny afternoon or chilly evening.

Really good place if you have a small group. The place is small, intimate and still hip. The food ranges in price so everyone can get exactly what they want. This place probably have one of the best Manhattan's I have ever had.

Went for a late lunch. Had the asparagus soup, which was delicious as a starter. As a main I had the the chop salad. The salad wasn't much to write about. There are better places to eat in Portland. I would probably skip this one next time I am in town.

Me and my fiance came here a while ago and thought the food was okay. The atmosphere was very nice - lots of yuppies hanging around, reminded me of a restaurant in NY. Would I come here again? Maybe.. but mainly for the atmosphere and not so much for the food.

We stopped by for happy hour the other day and ended up ordering much more food than we intended because everything was delicious! Bradley was a great bartender and he made some very tasty cocktails. It was a little quiet when we got there but picked up quite a bit by the time we left. I would stop by again for sure.

Cocktails is the reason Bluehour exists for me. The food for happy hour, lunch and dinner is fine too but the reason I walk a few blocks down from my home/office is for the cocktails. Keepsake is my favorite on the menu: bluehouronline.com/menus… followed by a custom list of others the very sweet, friendly and creative bartender who works midday on the weekdays has made for me using fresh fruit/veg and herbs.

I went to Bluehour this past Sunday for a brunch with a group of 6. Brunch was pretty good good, but nothing spectacular. I had the basic breakfast for $10, scone for $3 and regular coffee at $3. It was all good, but nothing really to write home about. The restaurant itself is quite nice and the wait staff was attentive, but there was nothing truly standout about the brunch that would make me want to come back.

Ok, so apparently I went there on the wrong day. I went for drinks and its.... a bar. WIth pretty high prices. I went there for lunch and it was bad. Poor, slow service and a small selection on the menu. Call me crazy, but if I'm going to pay that much, you better act excited when you bring me a clean fork and you probably shouldn't foget the drink I ordered.

If ever you find yourself in Portland and desire a reasonably priced, nice meal in a restaurant with a relaxed yet modern feel to it, Blue Hour should be high on your list. I went here with family and the three of us had an excellent meal that in Vegas would have been close to twice what we paid for it here. We had a four course meal, two bottles of wine and a cheese cart as a finisher. Excellent restaurant... I will definitely plan to go back if I am ever in Portland again.

The website claims they have "the most sophisticated menu in town." Oh, please. I don't know why I didn't check Yelp first. My complaints are similar to previous reviews. Here's what went wrong: 1) Late seating despite reservation held by credit card. Booked table through OpenTable, my mistake! We were given a million excuses as to why our table was not ready. They could not even offer an apology. In my experience as both a guest and a hostess, a complimentary drink or plate is offered as a pardon in addition to a sincere apology, which is oftentimes offered by a senior manager. 2) Inexperienced bar tending. I ordered a French 75 and the bartender didn't know how to make one. Given the high-class front, you would expect a more knowledgeable bar staff. 3) A surprising number of coats left unchecked, draping over chair backs. Sloppy. And yes, they have a coat check. 4) Pinot Noir poured into Cabernet glasses. I had to request Burgundy glasses. Yeah, I'm a snob like that. But on the other hand, this restaurant apes the mannerisms of a Michelin-rated establishment. You expect a different level of service. The food was pretty good. The caviar was tasty, but the buckwheat blini was a little too buttery. The seared scallops were fantastic. Our mains were okay. My Main (sic) lobster risotto was cooked perfectly. Haha, a main lobster. I'm so glad it wasn't a side lobster or a supporting lobster. Anyway, the flavor was fine, but the presentation was pathetic. It was simply slapped on a plate and brought out. The gnocchi were presented similarly. The desserts were also pretty good, but nothing too memorable. Our waiter though was excellent. He was professional and timed our courses very well. Maybe he's had some experience working in the sort of place Blue Hour so desperately wants to be.

Lose the hipsters and this place would be 5 stars. Lose the beautiful waitresses and maybe 3 stars. Ah, I guess you can't have one without the other! Happy hour menu is good.

All the times I've been here, I've walked out impressed. It's a really nice space, even when it's super busy you don't feel crammed in. I think it's a really nice, relaxing place. It's a great place for a dinner date or to meet up with a group of people for drinks. I typically go there with family because my friends are more of the get trashed at Tube sort, but even still they have delicious drinks and will often make you something off the drink menu if you ask.

After a negative experience and review, the manager contacted me to make things right. I was very impressed with the her professionalism. We decided to try Bluehour again with a gift certificate, and I'm pleased to say our meal was much better this time. The Diva martini is one of the best martinis I've ever tasted. The salmon and desserts were delicious. We ordered several other dishes that were good also, and the service was professional.

I'm reviewing the bar as we ventured in late and had a few cocktails and apps at the bar. Loved the cheese fondue. Super personable bartender and really enjoyed his version of the flaming Spanish coffee. MMM...

This is in the Pearl district of Portland and we had brunch there before the Buckminister Fuller show at the theater (now moved on). Everything was wonderful, a little slow on delivering the cappucicno, but other wise attentive without being over-attentive. The French omlet was superb with black truffles, taleggio, green onions and cooked just right. The Eggs Sardou was also very good with artichoke hearts with wilted spinach, hollandaise and rösti potatoes. It was chef made hollandaise and not that stuff that comes out of a tinfoil envelope and that restaurants add water - this was made properly. The eggs were organic and properly cooked and if you have a sweet tooth try the waffle with mascarpone and huckleberry compote. If you're down in Portland on Sunday morning give this brucn a try.

Nice atmosphere with cool outdoor seating. This was the first stop on our 3 restaurant dinner. Here is what we ordered: 1. Sangria - Different than a typical Sangria. It had champagne in it so it was a nice light drink. 2. Cheese Fondue - This was mediocre. The flavors of the cheese tasted a little artificial. Only bread for dipping, nothing else. Some apples would have been nice. 3. Oysters - These were fantastic. Big oysters that were very fresh. Request fresh horseradish, it makes all the difference. I have not had dinner there yet, but I would give it a shot the next time I am in Portland.

I've only been here for happy hour, but truly enjoyed myself in the chic atmosphere. Low prices on tasty snacks including pizza. The drink special of the day is usually pretty exceptional. This place is a little more dressy than your average happy hour. Good fun!

If you are looking for a great meal at a good price, this isn't the place for you. Bluehour is very hip/upbeat restaurant in Portland. A great time out for a group or a young couple. The ambience is nice, although they crank the music and the food isn't what you pay for. To start, try the Corn & Heirloom Tomato Soup and/or the Gnocchi; they are both very tasty. The entrees are a slightly different story. The King Salmon is good bite, although if you don't like horseradish then stay away. The Steak is mediocre, definitely not worth the $40. Dessert isn't bad; the Peach dish is quite a treat. Make sure to bring an extra $10 for Valet parking. To sum up this review, Bluehour is all about the atmosphere, and less about the food.

  • Nicole S.

The atmosphere is definitely a more hip city scene. Regardless of the scene, it was way too loud and the tables for 2 were smashed together with no privacy. The tables for 4 looked nice and curtained off. The appetizers were good, as they should be, they're not very hard to mess up. The gnocchi was amazing and so was the heirloom tomato corn soup. The entrees on the other hand were NOT good for their price. A $39 steak was chewy. The salmon was good, although not very fresh. Overall, for the price and what I think of to be fine dining, BlueHour has improvements to make. The noise is a huge factor for me. I could hardly hear my date.

Try Bluehour for lunch instead I decided to give this a place a second chance after having a so-so experience at happy hour. I kept hearing good things about Bluehour, so went one night after work. I was very impressed with the upscale dcor walking in, and the place seemed like it would draw a good crowd. It didn't. We were pretty bored and didn't order much since the drinks were fairly pricey. But I kept hearing good things, so ended up going back at an unlikely time for lunch. I ordered the special, which was a chicken salad. It tasted so fresh with its long leafs of romaine. The chicken was grilled perfectly, with plenty of juices still left. I thought the chef went up and beyond with creative and savory toppings. Halfway through, I was full but kept going because the creamy honey dressing alone was so good. It was indeed a "rich" salad. I'm still not crazy about the prices and doubt I'd go back at night, but for lunch it was a good outing. Tip: Sit outside and people watch when the weather warms up.

According to the restaurant's website, bluehour describes any time of day of "heightened emotion." If that's the case, come here during the sunday brunch hour. Food: 5 stars. BEST. BRUNCH. EVER. The Bluehour Hash was a perfect blend of pastrami, potato and poached egg. I could eat that forever. The dungeness crab omelet is also delicious. I also had a side of pineapple, which was fresh and just sweet enough. Service: 5 stars. Service is attentive, friendly, and down-to-earth. Atmosphere: 5 stars. The space is sophisticated yet trendy, with a matching clientele ranging from young to old. It's located in the Pearl District, which is fitting. Hits: Bluehour Hash, Dungeness Crab Omelet Misses: Not getting to try the rest of the menu because I live in SF. If You Like This Place, You'd Probably Like: clarklewis, Park Kitchen

I had my first lunch here yesterday with visiting guests and it was out of this world! We chose the 3 course lunch for $20 and every single item was delicious starting with the best Arnold Palmer tea I have ever had. Crusty bread with butter & rock salt, tomato soup, gnocchi with a truffle sauce, fresh panicotti, orange sorbet....everything was exceptional. Great service too. Would go back for lunch in a heartbeat - super affordable too (well, as opposed to dinner!)

My current favorite of Portland. I love a restaurant that can simultaneously connote Stanley Turrentine/BeBop jazz and serve what can only be described as true Northwest Cuisine. But the highlight is the cheese cart. Andrea(?) is a genius at pairing and made some great suggestions. My suggestion: order everything. In November, a party of four went and we ordered a large selection of appetizers, small plates, cheeses, and desserts and round-robinned them over glasses of oregon pinot, french cabs, and a russian river chardonnay paired recommended by the staff. Excellent excellent.

Quite the swanky place for brunch. Sure, these folks know how to decorate, turn on some mood lighting, and create atmosphere but let's see how they make up a plate of corned beef hash - perfectly poached eggs on top of a flavorful sculpture of potatoes and beef all covered in a delicious hollandaise sauce. By jove I think they've got it! I'll definitely hit up the happy hour next time I'm in the area, but unless I'm on an expense account and/or trying to impress someone (wink, wink) I'll skip the dining room and stick to the bar.

Went to Happy Hour and it was busy, long wait for drinks and no seats. Pretty space but I was put off by the attitudes. Portland is such a great town but this place didn't capture what makes Portland Portland.

Veggie friendly, and a fair number of choices, but not a ton when you first glance at the menu--they'll pull options from prix fixe as well as main list. Hasn't been an issue because I've always found a couple things that sounded and were delightful. Atmosphere is either relaxed or amusingly self-conscious depending on staff du jour ;-). This is usually my late lunch stop if I'm ducking into Powell's while passing through Portland.

i came by today and just barely missed happy hour. the place was super crowded and i actually left before i was able to order anything. i'm giving this place 4 stars purely for the amazing, chic, modern atmosphere and the cool people hanging out. it was definitely a little more on the early/mid 30s age range, but i feel like you'd fit in no matter what age, as long as you are well dressed. i stepped in this place and felt like i had stepped in to an LA/NYC/SF lounge after work. love love love it and it's most defintely on my short list of places to try now! this place is going to be amazing when the weather gets better!

I have eaten at Blue Hour for lunch on quite a few weekdays and also had dinner and happy hour here. Happy hour was by far the most enjoyable..a nice selection of appetizers at decent prices (compared to the regular menu), and very good cocktails. Lunches and dinners are overpriced in my opinion, however. The portions are tiny and the entrees are not super memorable, and I have tried several of their offerings at various times. Service has always been good for me here. I like the decor and ambience, but I will probably only return again for happy hour so I don't blow a wad of cash on mouse-sized portions of average quality food.

Bluehour is one of my all time favorite restaurants in Portland. The atmosphere is great, the food is always fabulous and the service is spot on. The Beef Carpaccio is wonderful if you're interested in a good appetizer. I would recommend you make reservations ahead of time, unless you don't mind hanging out in the bar, it can get pretty busy. Love it, love it, love it!

MMMMMMM. I love Blue Hour. the food here is so consistent! If you are looking to splurge try the caviar app. So worth it for a special occasion. The servers are so friendly and attentive! Don't want to spend too much? Sit in the bar area and have some tasty spaghetti for $9 or the burger for $10. You still get the ambiance without forking over the dough.

We went there on a Friday night without reservation :( we just wanted to sat at the bar to eat the gnocchi with truffles :) Well the bar was packed! Friday night! happy hour wow!!! anyway we asked the maitre'd if we could have a table? He looked at us like we couldn't afford to eat there? just because we were dress kind of casual but still trendy... well after he checked his opentable and went back to the restaurant... We got a table... no the best one but we were sat! We decided to order the whole meal from appetizer, salad, entree and wines... after all it was friday and we didn't want to have a table occupied just for apps... with ordered carppacio and the foi gra'... both appetizer were excellet! we split a beet salad... very simple... I ordered my gnocchi and my partner ordered the braised beef cheek... very disappointed with our entrees:( my gnocchi were undercooked and very lillte truffle, the braised beef were extremely salty... the server took the beef back to the kitchen and brought it back but still was salty :( Anyway by that point we were kind of full... Everything else was nice... the atmosphere was nice... Our server gave us a complimentary dessert for the inconvenience of the beef I never said anything about the gnocchi! Overall great place for a date or just to hung out at the bar ( if you find seat)

I've only ever been here during happy hour. The service can be slow, but that's mainly because there are always so many people. I would definitely recommend the burger and would go so far as to make the claim that it's the best burger in Portland (it's made to order, which means if you like rare burgers, you can order it to be black and blue, and it is literally blue in the middle and cold). Also, the drinks are very strong and tasty. One of my top ten favorite places in Portland.

Love being stared at when you walk in? If you're all about fake people and being judge the second you open the door to this overpriced establishment, then this is the place for you. Typical Pearl pretentiousness. Sucky service. Sub-par cocktails.

Stopped here on july 4 when mediterranean exploration company was closed. So glad we did! Delicious moscow mules ($6), fried asparagus appetizer and spiced nuts. We stayed for dinner and shared the caesar salad. My husband had the duck (delicious! He says in the top 5 and he's quite an aficionado) and I had the gnocchi (fresh and light). Service was impeccable. We will be back!!!

Living in San Francisco has raised my bar of expectations when it comes to restaurants. I recently visited some friends that moved to the Portland area and told them to pick a SF-like restaurant for dinner. Blue Hour was their instant choice. When we walked in I immediately understood why they chose it. The restaurant is decorated with a very modern and very cool vibe. The only reason I knew that I wasn't in SF was that we were actually able to find a table in the bar for some pre-dinner drinks. The service was good, but a bit slow. That's why they receive 4 out of 5 stars. The food was delicious and the wine selection is decent. We ordered salads and then received surprise appetizers from the chef. I love it when they do that! We ordered the tuna, chicken, grouper and steak. Everyone's plate was wiped clean! I don't remember what we ordered for dessert since my wine consumption was high that evening - but I remember that I liked it a lot! The restaurant is a bit pricey, but well worth it for a good night out. Four people with appetizers, entrees, dessert and some wine was $250.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
