We moved out of the neighborhood, but I still have fond memories of weekend brunches eating Birds in a Basket (YUM!) and drinking delicious bloody marys. Yes, you have to order at the bar most of the time. No waitresses, just the bartender(s) and the cook who brings out your food. Definitely try customizing your food with their 'options' section - add cheese to everything! I've heard some great live music there, and plan to go back in the future.

Currently at Biddy's listening to Green Tamborine having a beer and Irish egg rolls, yum. Great place to listen to music, dance and eat pub food.

We didn't stay long or eat so who knows maybe we missed something. I have heard the food is good. This place is really run down. The furniture is all piecemeal and sporadically placed. The live music didn't fit an Irish bar this was disappointing, and everyone looked bored. Honestly my whole table was falling asleep.

Drink five whiskeys and play some darts while they've got no band and there's a cutie behind the bar offering you Guinness. It's fun. Take a walk around tabor after.

Came here with a co-worker who lives close by - this is her neighborhood haunt. We spent about three hours playing darts, drinking and chatting. The bar itself is nice and large - the darts are in one corner, the stage is in another and there is plenty of room for it to fill nicely and for people to still move around and sprawl out. However - I couldn't get over how damned dark it was. When we entered it was like 4:30pm on a Friday and still light outside, but darker inside. So dark it was kinda hard to read the menu. The darts area had much better lighting, so I'm glad we stayed there. The food - I'm going to say this again and again...English and Irish food is just NOT that appealing to me. I've never had any meal at an English or Irish pub that made me a convert to their concepts of what tastes good together. My husband enjoyed the reuben and our friends who are regulars said it's the best thing on the menu. I went with a pulled pork sandwich. I'm starting to doubt my theory that I SHOULD try a pulled pork sandwich everywhere we go because it usually ends up being so disappointing. The taste was bland, slightly fishy and there were SURPRISE cabbage chunks hiding in the meat. Yegh. I added some steak sauce to it, but even then I only ate about half. Otherwise, the drinks were good. The live band playing jazz and blues (no cover) added to the pleasant atmosphere. This is probably a place I would return to, but wouldn't indulge in a meal. Maybe bar food.

We came here the week after St Paddy's thinking it would be easier to get a table..The table we got. No service to speak of and my beer was flat. Food wasn't bad (eggs in a nest) but the F &C were greasy as all get out and not in a good way. Expected British beans with brekkie and got kidney beans? Really? We persevered as it was for a birthday celebration - no good - no bread pudding and really nasty deep fried oreos. Wanted to leave and could not even get anyone to take our money. NEVER again.

Biddy's for breakfast? Absolutely. Beginning a couple of months ago, Biddy's has been serving up an amazing brunch menu, from delicate entrees like a creamy Stuffed Brioche French Toast to heartier comfort foods like the tangy Stewed Beef Hash. A no-brainer for breakfast if you're anywhere near 60th & Glisan on a Sat or Sun morning. Some good veggie options on the menu, too. The clincher? Each entree is just $6.00.

I'm giving this place 4 stars based on the Cottage Pie [Shepherd's Pie], alone. WOW, WOW, WOW, were my assumptions dead wrong! It looked a bit like a previously frozen atrocity, molded into the shape of a loaf pan with reconstituted gravy from a package hastily dumped over the top. So, my first notion was to avoid this at all costs. After a little prodding by my cohort, I finally gave in and was abruptly surprised! This is the only reason I would ever patronize this place, as the atmosphere is a bit lacking in a way that I can't quite put my finger on. The bar tender was very friendly, and attentive [for the most part], so I feel I Have to give him credit for that. In any case, If you're just looking for a good, quick, cheap [only $6!?!] meal of satisfying comfort food and maybe a pint, I would suggest this place!

Had a wonderful time there last night playing darts and getting to know people. Granted I was with a regular and so I got treated fairly nicely but from the way everyone was talking you could walk in off the street and they would still be nice to you.

I miss living right across from this place. It was the perfect neighborhood bar. I never really went her to get drunk but rather to enjoy a drink or two and listen to the live music. The atmosphere is really chill and laid back but my favorite thing (besides the beer) are the french fries. Seriously, they were always perfectly made and seasoned. The only con is the women's bathroom is TINY and definitely not wheelchair friendly.

Met a friend for brunch. Biddy's is fine for drinks, the Irish coffee was definitely the high point. Skip the biscuits & gravy! I could swear that the menu said simply BISCUITS. Online it says brown soda scones and gravy with peppered ham & smoked bacon gravy. I don't like soda bread, so pehaps that's why I found the bicuits to be heavy, dense, and unpleasantly chewy with the gravy barely able to make inroads into the interior. The thick chunks of bacon appeared to have been thrown into the gravy at the last moment. Silly me, I prefer my bacon... well, I prefer it to be actually cooked. I'll go back, but NOT to eat.

Five blocks from home, and finally made a first visit tonight. Great live music in the front by a band called 29 Steps playing original tunes, mostly in the folk rock genre. Live music is pretty loud so if you have sensitive ears, come prepared, or don't sit close to the front. Very casual, unpretentious neighborhood hangout, with no wait staff - you order at the bar, they give you a number, and bring it to your table when ready. Large selection of Irish brews, with a Sin Fein poster on the wall. Sorry to say but I wouldn't recommend the fish & chips. Think it was pollack, completely bland, and a tad too greasy. But hey -- I probably shouldn't judge a place based on one mediocre entre. Maybe because it was a live music night, it seemed family friendly, with kids imbibing non-alcoholic drinks, and while it wasn't a busy night, I didn't see anyone intoxicated - though it was still early in the evening when I left (8:30pm). I would return to hear more good music. There's pool upstairs, with a separate entrance outside.

Biddy's seems like the sort of place that treats regulars right. A sort of Cheers for the NE Glisan crowd, a place to grab a beer after work. The sort of place I'd normally love. You know how it is in the movies when the main character walks into the wrong bar? Biddy's. You know how it looks when people turn to look at the intruder, making sure they know they're on the wrong turf? That could be Biddy's. Oh, and you know how it is when people don't even look up to acknowledge that someone has walked in, even the bartender? That could also be Biddy's. I think Biddy's is probably a great place if it happens to be your bar. Too bad, this place isn't mine.

Hmmm...I may take some flack for this, but since it's based on the TOTAL experience, here's my 2 cents' worth. Funky, way past its' prime, & reeking of old beer. I don't know, is this authentic?? It certainly isn't gentrified. Working class or, more to the point, working poor?? Probably. We didn't experience the full Biddy McGraws atmosphere. We were here on a Monday late afternoon whilst awaiting the boys finishing an after-school lesson. I like the Sinn Fein posters, the air of authenticity & the down-at-the-heels feel of the place, but honestly, a good scrubbing wouldn't hurt. Maybe the music is great here. Maybe the games of darts are enthralling. Perhaps the pub grub is spectacular. All I know is that it's a pretty grubby scene in the late afternoon gloom, the table top was sticky, the barkeep lackadaisical, and the conversation at the other table was...well...let's just say it was decidedly lowbrow. Would I return? Umm...probably not unless there was good reason & even then, in a town like Portland with so many options, I might still go elsewhere. This is a spot for loyalists or the crowd in the immediate neighborhood. Neither of which am I, so I'll keep an ear out for some fun music shows. Till then, I'll be at another watering hole.

OK, my first impression was right on. I should have never tried it twice. If you've read any of my reviews you'll know I don't give negative reviews unless they're deserving, but after going there twice and having the same experience both times here'sy honest impressions: Scroungy, dank and dirty. Rude bartenders. $5 pints. What? PRO-IRA???? Seriously? Do they even know what that means? Don't go here uses you can't avoid it. P-town has a out a million other places find one.

love the food and the late weekend breakfasts - you always get your money's worth. I'm not much of a drinker, so I can't tell you if the beer's expensive. I DO make a point NOT to go in the evenings. The day time bartenders are awesome, but the night time bartenders are stuck up. The day time 'tenders will leave their post and take your order, even though a sign tells you to "order at the bar - no waitstaff." the couple times I've gone in the evening, they had great music.

The music can get a little loud and the imports can get a little expensive. But the foods very good bar food, the selection is ample, the music's good, the darts fly, and the pinballs roll. Great place.

I hadn't been to Biddy's since it was on Hawthorne back in the 90s so I stopped in for lunch today. Had one of the best club sandwiches I've ever had but can't review the beer or atmosphere since I was the only one there and only had a soft drink. Sean, the bartender, was very nice and the food arrived quickly. I'll have to go back on a weekend and check out the live performances and club atmosphere.

You know how your mom taught you that if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it must be a duck? Does the same apply to bars? If it looks like a bar and smells like a bar, it must be a bar. Check. Round two. + Biddy's looks like an Irish bar. I guess. I mean, kind of. It's very wood-y...it has booths...it has a copper bar top...and the bartender was very badass and tattooed and reminded me of the dudes in Boondock Saints. There's some outdoor seating, if you are okay with sitting right on a busy Glisan intersection. + Biddy's smells like an Irish bar. Smoky? Okay. I mean, lots of bars are smoky. + Biddy's sounds like an Irish bar. When I went, it was pretty quiet. I'm talking eerily silent. There was space for a band, but none was seen. I'm wondering if they play Irish bands here. Because then in that case it would sound like an Irish bar. + Biddy's tastes like an Irish bar. Ehhhh...yes....no.......I don't know. They have an ample amount of brews on tap, and snaps because one of them is cider (my love!). Brews will run you out a solid $5, though, which I find slightly steep. And maybe I didn't get to look long enough at the menu, but it seemed to me that there wasn't a whole lot along the lines of traditional Irish fare. Where were the bangers and mash? The corned beef and cabbage? The nasty goulashes? I had to scour the menu before finding the fish-'n'-chips (which, by the way, weren't impressive). It seemed like the rest was just normal bar food--burgers, reubens (which I guess wasn't very good, either), etc. And DAAAAAMN they were slow getting it out to us. I know they only had one guy working the bar, but it was not busy inside. I'm talking a solid 40 minutes before getting our grub. But according to my equation, I'm sorry to say that Biddy's just doesn't do the trick as an Irish pub. It's cool because it's in my 'hood, but they shouldn't try to pass as something they're not.

After moving to the distant west side, I hadn't been to Biddy's in about eight months. So last night, I had the joy of meeting a friend there, for old times' sake. I was a little tragedized to find that the Irish Nachos have gone the way of the edsel, the dodo, and Milli Vanilli. But, they've still got Murphy's, they've still got live music, and they've still got the feel I got when I was in a little pub in Cork oh-so-many-years ago. I guess you could say Biddy's is a working-class bar. You aren't going to find too many hoochie-mama's dressed up in their clubbing best; you aren't going to find the singles mixing scene. What you will find is decently-priced beer, "normal" people, and some chill music with a bit of a gaelic theme to spice up the evening. Worth stopping by, should you be wandering around that part of town.

Irish pubs are way more cool without the meathead frat boys and girls. Irish pubs also feature fiddles and earnest-voiced singers and older patrons tearing up the dance floor in a sweet way. Bonus: The Colcannon side dish consists of perfectly cooked potatoes and kale, which is dark green and leafy. This will be helpful when you're about three pints in and the cigarettes you're smoking or smoking secondhandedly are subtly closing off the flow of oxygen in your veins.

Biddy McGraws is a solid Irish pub. I was there on a quiet Sunday with about five other people. I like quiet pubs so that was good. There was an Irish band playing and the have Boddingtons on tap. Lots of cool Irishy junk all over the walls and the bartender was cool. New favorite bar.

Of all the many places in town that are benefiting from the smoking ban, in my book Biddy's may do the best - they certainly will be seeing a whole lot more of my business. You see, even though I can walk there from my house - thus making it super convenient for me to indulge my weakness for smooth Irish whiskey then stumble home - it was always just too smoky. Too smoky to enjoy the great music. Too smoky to enjoy a Cottage Pie with a side of Colcannon. Too smoky to really do anything other than just light up a ciggy of your own so you can at least get a little nicotine buzz to go with all that 2nd hand smoke you've been sucking down. But all that has changed. Now you are free to drop in and enjoy a perfectly poured Guiness and relax in this rustic, charming, and very authentic feeling Irish pub without unintentionally darkening your lungs. The food is good. Not great, and it strays too far from the most authentic Irish pub fare for my tastes, but it satisfies and is reasonably priced. Though I'm not a vegetarian, I find it a little disappointing that if they're going to add a lot of non-Irish sandwiches and apps, they couldn't have expanded the meat-free options a bit - vegetarians looking for dinner at Biddy's have very few choices. But the bar is where it's at! Friendly and competent bartenders, a solid selection of imported UK and local brews, and a full bar so you can really imagine that you're in a Celtic pub back in Limerick or Kilkenny rather than in NE Portland. Biddy's also scores big with the music, much of which is in the rootsy, bluegrass vein. Rarely (if ever) is there a cover, and great bands like Jackstraw, The Foghorn String Band, and The Texecutioners (who we were lucky enough to walk in and enjoy) frequently play Biddy's. Sundays nights are one of my favorite times to visit, as they have Hanz Araki and Cary Novotny performing superb Irish music while hosting a Celtic jam session for local musicians. Generally good, and frequently fantastic, there is not much that beats sipping a Jameson at Biddy's while listening to some creative Celtic musical arrangements.

Biddy McGraws is ok, but nothing special. If I lived closer to it I may have liked it more, but since I don't, I am not so inclined to return. We checked it out because of some free live music, but were disappointed when we showed up at 9:00 (thinking that music started at 8:30) and then music didn't start until 10:30 (and even then, it was an opener and not the person advertised. The person advertised didn't come on until after 11:00). So this was disappointing. The beer was good and the pitchers were large. After by friends and I finished off a couple pitchers (they drank the majority and I became the DD accidentally) one of the dart boards opened up and we had a good time playing and people watching and eventually listening to music. I most enjoyed the people watching, it's a good place for that. And the fact that at 12:30am when we were ready to leave, one of my friends decided it would be a good idea to do whiskey shots and surprised us with 2 a piece. Considering I had to drive in about 5 minutes, I declined and they took care of my share. This lead to an interesting drive home with them insisting that we needed dance music on so they could have a dance party. Good times with good friends. As for other Irish Pubs to check out, I am a big fan of the Horsebrass.

Loved dancing it up at the Hawthorne Shop, with my dead friend Charlie, who danced like a giddy Troll...and after a couple o'Guiness nothing was funner. I enjoy the current place now and then, and do like the people who hang out there . So go spend a tenner or more on their great bar selections, have the Irish Stew and appreciate that the Happy Hour music really does NOT Suck. All this down-home hospitality is offered week after week, by Biddy's winning business plan, Artists and Staff who generously spare you a Cover Charge. That is a very winning offer. Soon, very soon, in '09, the NE 60th & Glisan Biddy's will look mighty Fine. (The toxic lingering haze of Smoke - will be G-O-N-E, gone!) Glisan Bus # 19, or the 71 Crosstown - good if you watch the schedule. It also links you to Hawthorne, Belmont, and Woodstock Pubs. The 60th MAX station is a Way easy walk to/from Biddys... so try it...and save a few bucks, help clean the air, and maybe even spare some lives...by not driving after you Sip, K? (Complaining about other folks' cigarettes - then forgetting the carbon monoxide and oil wars your car begets - is a bit incongrent, don't you agree? Welcome to Portland -where we enjoy/offer WONDERFUL ALTERNATIVES! All buses carry bikes. MAX too, ramps and elevators are provided to help us navigate MAX stations. Enjoy em.) Peace!

For an authentic, tooth-and-nail, dark-and-gritty (yet warm-and-earthy) local Irish pub experience, I highly recommend Northeast Portland's Biddy McGraw's. With live Irish folk music booked almost every night, Guinness, Boddingtons, and Harp on tap, a huge Sinn Fein poster on the wall, as well as darts and scores of strange and fantastic knick-knacks from the old country strewn all about the place, this really is the hippest bar in town for the cool, dark-around-the-edges Irish vibe. The beer is always excellent here, and the food often amazing. Try the Monte Cristo, which is $6 and served with fresh strawberry jam. Be sure to give the fish and chips a go while you're at it; by my standards they're the best in town. Outside of being an excellent place to meet really cool people and listen to excellent raucous music on any given week night, Biddy's is also a great place to chill out and quietly read or finish writing that long overdue novel over a cold Guinness on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

I remember when Biddy's was on Hawthorne - of course I was too young to go, but I always loved hearing the music (a benefit of working across the street). So I was happy to visit for the first time at their new location (not so new really). I attended the pub trivia night with some friends and had a lot of fun. The crowd was laid back and the smoke wasn't too much of a problem. The fish and chips were good (the fries were amazing, but I was really disappointed with the overly gooey, beer battered fish). Overall: Defiantly a fun spot to check out - I'll be back for the music this weekend!

Spent some of my best and worst nights in Biddy's. Used to go all the time on Hawthorne...and thought they were crazy when they moved to this location. Still was a good night out when we all chipped in for taxi fare. Loved watching Funk Shui there...they still play I think.

this place is your standard irish-american pub. the drinks are strong and the fries are crispy. however, i couldn't shake the feeling that there might be a secret meeting of the IRA going on in a back room or upstairs. i'm not sure why, but it was a creepy feeling. also they have a lot of cool, vintage guiness signs.

Biddy's is a great neighborhood place to grab a cold one and hang out. Ian the bartender is a peach and the rest of the staff are fun too. Been coming here for years and find it is always welcoming. The atmosphere is jovial and clean. The food is not the best - really at all - but that is not why I go there. Good times at Biddy McGraws...

Not many places serve up a very tasty Monty Cristo the way that Biddys does. That and a pint o'Guiness, along with their really cool pub quiz (trivia night) on Tuesdays, and this place has me hooked.

Lots of good live Irish music, which is pretty much my main criteria for a pub. Looks like the food's getting good reviews, although I'm not sure I'd eat there (I've seen the kitchen, although that was years ago).

i spent quite a bit of time in here. its got a quality pub atmosphere and great darts. the music is usually (with a BIG exception to that funk band) very good. It nice to not be surrounded by tellys and game machines, and instead just honest human chatter.. the only thing i cant approve of is the PRO - IRA posters. I know it seems edgy and hip to some of you, but to others its damn offensive and contrived, im sure the horse brass would catch some flack if they put up UVF posters. just saying..

We went to Biddy's tonight because we were craving burgers. Despite the reports from some reviewers saying the staff were unfriendly, we were very pleased with the bartender's attitude. He was friendly and chatty and funny. We ordered and paid at the bar, and food was brought to our table. After perusing the menu, none of us ended up ordering the burgers, though. I wasn't very hungry so I had the grilled cheese sandwich ($6.00) with gruyere and cheddar on sourdough bread. It was perfect. We had a basket of fries ($3.00) which were crispy and hot, but nothing to write home about. My dining companions ordered the bacon-wrapped chicken sandwich ($8.00) and the cottage pie ($6.00). The chicken sandwich was pronounced "good," but the cottage pie was overly spiced with tarragon. I liked it, but my companion wasn't thrilled. They had hard cider on tap, which we all ordered and enjoyed. There was a live band at the time we were there, but we were still able to hear each other speak, so that was nice. The bartender even came to our table later in the meal to see if we needed anything and to tell a funny story. I wanted to try the Guiness bread pudding but I was too full. Overall a decent Irish pub experience. Three entrees & three drinks = $39.00.

Great bar, nice staff, and I enjoy the food a lot. My favorite thing is ambiance. There are no video lottery machines that draw the in the undesirables and no tvs blaring obnoxious garbage; that is exactly how I like it. They also have live music consistently, and tends to be very diverse.

Biddy's gets three stars for their stellar brunch. The Irish slant is as marked in the pricing (circa 1970s Ireland) as the food. $6 buys easily the most unique and in my opinion one of the best benedicts in Portland. Never a wait, this place is undiscovered and I hesitate to tell others about it. Three stars because I was a regular patron and they were never very friendly save one bartender. Also, the clientele does not make for an atmosphere I would wish to return to. I only went because I used to live around the corner.

Went the for the first time tonight with my friend. It was pretty empty (not surprising for a Wednesday night). It took us a while to figure out they don't have waiters, which is fine, it's just good to know! I ordered the cottage pie and Guinness cake. My friend ordered the beef stew and a salad. So... This is where it gets bad-ish. The cottage pie is basically just the stew with potato stuff on top, which would be fine if the stew was any good. It was EXTREMELY salty and tasted like something out of a can. Luckily it was on the cheap side. My friend said her salad tasted like the fridge. The cake was pretty good (although it didn't have frosting/icing). Anyway, based off this experience I won't be ordering food in the future. The Portland Cider was quite good though, and being an empty weeknight we had the darts to ourselves, so we ended up having a pretty fun time! So: TL;DR - avoid the food. Just buy a beer and play darts.

First time visited to Biddy McGraws. I went to hear Green Tambourine perform and would definitely go back. I really like to atmosphere and the people, the staff and the patrons all seemed to be the kind of folks I'd like to spend more time with. I didn't try the food so I can't comment but they do have a full bar and a good selection on their menu.

This is an old Irish pub with original decor brought over by founder 'Biddy' herself. It is rough. There is no hoyty-toyty service. Family-owned, it is a little behind the times if you are looking for modern. There are at least two dart boards, and a videogame room the new owners are soon replacing with video poker. We (40s couple, native Oregonians) go here for the fish and chips as our common date night. It's $10 and we always split it, 2pc fish n half basket fries, and I get the slaw. Depending on who is cooking, it is phenominal or just good enough. We look forward to the live music. They book in some extremely talented musicians and sometimes it's more down home, but still good listening. There is an open dancing space in front of the band with tables and chairs nearby for a more intimate experience. Live Texas Hold Em upstairs daily. We have not done this activity. For service, they have had waitresses before on busy weekend nights. We moved out of the neighborhood and now only go on weekday nights. We usually sit at the bar if there is room. From what I have seen, the bartenders work their asses off. We always receive very good or, at the very least, adequate service. Don't go for gourmet coffee...it is a glass pot on a burner, like a diner. They serve RC, which I like. Non Monsanto Pepsi or Coke establishments make me happy cuz I can get a cola and not support them. I tried the Guiness cupcakes for my bday this year. Two smaller, not too sweet cakes drizzled with chocolate sauce that didn't taste like Hershey's ( it was good) and spray can whip cream (palate said spray can whip). A nice little upper scale pedestrian dessert $4. The bartender, also one of the new owners, sweetly treated me dessert. Thank you. Biddy's has its own personality, be it pretty Irish girl or trashy Irish wench. I like that better than going to a chain of all-the-sames. P.S. I have been for brunch, was good, would go again, and I have never seen children in the bar...ever. If you go before 10, there is out-front picnic table seating for drink and food. After 10, no alcohol.

Neat space, for some reason it reminds me of a bar in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Divey, Irish, and oddly charismatic . Came for lunch one day and got a sad Reuben sammich with those horrid freezer bag steak fries. Needless to say, not a choice spot for bar food, but they got enough good booze to make anything taste good!

Biddy's is probably the most authentic Irish pub in the Portland Metro area. A true neighborhood pub, Biddy's has frequent entertainment as well as an Irish Breakfast. I'll raise a pint to Biddy's any day of the week!

Now to break it down: Food - 2.5, Service-1, Price/Value-5, Atmosphere-2.5, friendliness and general dive bar appeal-3. Been wanting to try this neighborhood dive bar (not my hood). The place is clean enough and there was a spot right out front when we arrived for brunch at 11 or so. The place is oddly set up - with a giant empty space in the middle and many of the tables are not very appealing (too short, too squooshed...). So while it wasn't busy, it was still hard to find a "good" table. Everyone there - customers and staff alike - are friendly! I would definitely think this a fun place to drink. Our mimosas were good and large (but took 20 minutes). The coffee was not good and not strong. The food is promising - brunch for $6! But doesn't live up to the promise (and the food took over 45 minutes). We liked the Benny - but the potato cake seemed like they'd been drying out in the oven for a couple hours. The monte christo was mediocre - hardly any ham or cheese, so why not just make it french toast - but while it's served with powdered sugar, it's not served with syrup. So it's not quite sweet or savory enough. We had expressed that we were in a small hurry (after waiting 45 min for the food), but when it came time to get our bill - the bartender was gone on the phone and when he returned - he seemed oblivious when I tried waved him over maybe 8 times. I finally had to go to him. It's cheap and filling - but more than a little disappointing Maybe I watch too many restaurant makover shows, but I fell like with a little effort, this could be a really good place....

I like this pub for it is very low key, and they have decent beers. It is a friendly neighborhoody kind of place. I've had the fish and chips there before and they weren't bad. I don't get there very often, but always enjoy it when I do go. I like to hear the music there as well. Selena

I find myself coming to Biddy's more often than I'd like since it's so close to home. The bartenders are wonderful, but their awesomeness cannot outshine how terrible the food here is. I have tried it twice, hoping against all hope that I just hit a bad night the first time, but alas ... no improvement. I love bar food, and I'd even go so far as to say that I usually love kinda crappy bar food, but this is just bad. They do have darts and a decent atmosphere overall, though I try to avoid this venue if there's any chance of live music occurring. If you dare to order off their menu, avoid the Reuben Sandwich and the Fish & Chips at all costs.

Avoid live music nights unless you like really loud bad celtic-like music that will make your ears bleed. Other than that the atmosphere is awesome. The staff is super nice and the food is pretty damn good for pub food. Nice Irish favorites. I'm a fan of the cottage pie and the more Irish stuff. The Stew. Eat it. You will be happy. Their burgers are pretty damn awesome, too.

Has good selection of beer (overpriced pints).... and is somewhat close to my house. That's about all for the pros. Overly loud music, not making it ideal for hanging out with people and talking, but if you like excessive loud music, good for you. Bar Food. Attempting to get a drink is like pulling teeth. The bartenders don't even acknowledge you on busy nights until it's convenient. No common courtesy in acknowleding you are there. On a specific night (not my first time there), St. Patties day 2013, my wife and I went to the bar asking if they served Irish Car Bombs, the bartender replied, "No, we don't serve those". We were going to order beers, but out of curiosity I asked why they did no serve them. The Bartender answered, "Well that's a Douchebag thing to order. If you ordered that in Ireland, you'd probably get your ass kicked." The old man behind him proceeded to chuckle. We left. Couldn't even collect our cover refund because we were there too long (10 minutes). Obviously they don't serve those in Ireland! This is AMERICA! A courteous and customer service oriented bartender would have said something more like, "We are more of an authentic Irish Pub, so we don't serve them". Justifiable answer!!!! Don't call me and my wife Douchebags for asking a question. Recap: Decent overpriced beer, crappy bouncers, average bar food, blaring music, douchebag bartenders.

Standard bar menu and food. We had the irish eggrolls which were pretty good. I had the fish and chips and Kevin had the reuben. It was all okay, but quite greasy. Definitely a place to come for the drinks instead of the food.

If you ever encounter Pat or Patrick, the bartender, run. Duck, hide, or run away. He may lure you in with a drink, but he will turn you away with his filthy, tarnished spirit. He is the worst bartender ever. EVER. End of story. And I've been to a lot of bars. Dives, wine bars, gastropubs, etc, any place that involves food and adult beverages. He is by far the worst person in Portland I have ever encountered. Ever. He gives an evil eye, he greets you with a wholehearted spirit, acting accepting in the Northeast PDX way. "Oh hi, how are you? Please come into my bar and welcome to my home" Fuck that. No way. This guy is the worst. He will serve you a poor drink after you tip him far above 20%. Keyword AFTER. I just don't understand why this bar continues to support poor bartenders like this guy when they have such positive ones. Just sayin, You know what... All I want people to know is that he has a tendency to overreact to people aka people who support the bar as a whole... AKA regulars.

Was there for their St. Paddy's Day festivities, showing up just after noon. Had to pay the $10 cover, even tho I told the owner I was only there for a bite and a pint. The music was lively enough. I ordered from the special menu (the regular one was not available); corned beef and cabbage, and a side of their brown bread. And a pint of ale. I couldn't believe what I got for my money. A four-ounce piece of fatty corned beef and four bites of cabbage ($9), and two miniature cupcakes of brown bread and a cold pad of butter ($5). The 14-oz "pint" of Bass ($6) was hardly spectacular. For the hour and fifteen minutes I was there = $30. The stingiest kitchen I have ever encountered. Won't be back.

You will not find me within a mile of an Irish pub on St. Patrick's Day. Those days are well behind me. The whole green beer thing is wrong on so so so many levels. If you were at Biddy's today however, you would have seen me there. After the Shamrock Run the group of friends I ran with decided to head over here. I'm sensing a theme here. The main reason to come here on a weekend is the Irish Brunch. The menu has 10 items all for only $6. This is offered from 9a-3p. I was told they were known for their Monte Cristo, so Monte Cristo it was. Here is the scoop on this sandwich. Ham, turkey, cheddar, and gruyere on brioche, dipped in egg batter and grilled. Served with strawberry preserves. Damn fine food. Pair that up with a Guinness and a Boddingtons (not at the same time) after a 5 mile run and that makes for a happy danimal. This is an Irish pub. Nothing less, nothing more. The beers are a bit on the pricey side ($5.50 for a 20 oz), but they have all the old Irish haunts. Guinness, Murphy's and Smithwicks. The bartender was our server and aside from a few slight beer spills, he was around when we needed him and not when we didn't.

    (3)
  • Patti F.

Pros: Good live music, Smithwick's on tap (a rarity in the states), ample seating, good vibe. Cons: The potato "cheese" balls were gross. Tasted like black pepper crusted mashed potatoes, and were cheeseless. Bartenders were really just not friendly, unattentive, but clearly VERY busy. Tips: Order food at the bar (don't get those potato cheese balls), scope a table, have your beer ready.

Some of these reviews are surprising to me.... so here I go. Biddy's is fabulous, love it. It is NOT at all divey, has a good mellow vibe... and great live music. The food is typical bar food, not spectacular but fits the bill... and I would argue it is MUCH better than average bar food [plus they have brunch, though I have yet to try it]. The drinks are reasonable, bartenders always friendly and know their regulars. The decor is cozy... all wood and makes you feel like it's been there forever. Definitely go see some music there... some of my favorite times there have been spinning around happily on the tiny dance floor. They often have wonderful bands, and always a good crew of people up for dancing. Love this place.. if you are in the area, or even not, GO! It's mellow, but fun and great music. Only con: parking kinda sucks, but it's a mellow neighborhood so easy to find parking close-ISH.

Nice dank, dark, dive-y Irish bar. Just the way I like 'em. This is one of my regular stops. They have a large selection of draft beer, some Irish to match the theme and many more to represent Oregon microbrews. It's not the greatest selection and they only rotate a small handful of the taps, but there is plenty of good to great beer. The food is nothing special, but it fits the bar's atmosphere. There are no TVs to distract your friends, and they have darts in the back. Prices are not great, but not awful. They offer free wi-fi, so it can be a great spot to stop in if you're alone.

This place rocks! Plenty of micros, great music, awesome food. The bartenders are swell, a touch surly at , but who doesn't love a surly bahkeepe. Try the cottage pie...cheat and filling. I can't wait to go back for a beer and a shot.

It's an unassuming place I like mostly because it's close to my apartment. Now that I've discovered Caldera, which is even closer, I will probably not be back very often. But Biddy's is a chill enough spot even on busy nights, and even when they have live music. The food is surprisingly good, too. I haven't had a soup I don't like yet -- the lentil stew is one of my favorites. It sometimes takes a bit to get served, and sometimes not. It sometimes seems smoky inside and sometimes not. All in all, a fairly unremarkable place, but that may be what you want sometimes!

Biddy's is in the neighborhood and for that we are very glad. The atmosphere here is very relaxed. The bar tender who seems to pretty much live there is very friendly and helpful. The bloody marries he makes are amazing! The food here is pretty descent. I've seen a couple of bad dishes come out but overall they are good. The brunch on Saturday/Sunday is ridiculously cheap and yummy. For me it's all about the Reuben. The Reuben here is definitely one to try! They make their corned beef in house and it shows. The sandwich always is piled high with this yummy corned beef and has the perfect amount of sour kraut.

This place is really the pits. They don't do Guiness very well - it's warm and flat usually. The food is terrible, the wait staff is unattentive, and it's so loud in there due to the small space that I just want to leave after like 15 minutes. I don't know how they've been able to stay open this long! I guess it's just the local watering hole - when people want a drink, they go to Biddy's instead of just staying home and mixing their own drinks.

I like this place. I was jonesing for a good Guinness and this is a nearby Irish Pub so I stopped in with my roommate on a Thursday evening. There were about a dozen people inside, and a musician singing with his guitar. We took a seat at the bar and ordered Guinness. The bartender poured it perfectly. The total for 2 Guinnesses was $11 which I think is rather steep.. around $4 apiece is more what I am used to. However the Guinness was delicious and fresh, and like I said - poured correctly. It definitely fixed my craving. Knocking a star for the spendy beer but the atmosphere, service, and offerings were spot-on, so I'll be back.

Our British friend found his new home at Biddy's. For us, Biddy's isn't "the one" (everyone needs a British-esque pub to call home!). But we like it just fine. There are plenty of reviews about dinner/drink/atmosphere, so I'm not going to try to recreate that here. What I am going to tell you is that Biddy's has a mean brunch: it's cheap, it's yummy, and there is absolutely no wait. For six dollars, you can choose from: Biddy's Benny Potato cake topped with corned beef, poached eggs and bearnaise sauce Stuffed Brioche French Toast Fresh brioche french toast stuffed with mascarpone cheese and served with organic Vermont maple syrup Stewed Beef Hash Potatoes, bell peppers, onion, kale and stewed beef served with poached eggs Birds in a Basket Eggs in brioche served with a banger, beans and sliced tomatoes Whole Wheat Buttermilk Pancakes Triple stack with fresh fruit and organic Vermont maple syrup Monte Cristo Ham, turkey, cheddar, and gruyere on brioche, dipped in egg batter and grilled. Served with strawberry preserves Brown Soda Scones & Gravy House-made scones with a peppered ham & smoked bacon gravy, served with two eggs any style Veggie Cakes Black bean, corn, mushroom & hazelnut cake topped with poached eggs and bearnaise sauce Organic Spiced Rolled Oatmeal Fresh and hot, made with cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla and served with seasonal fruit Biddy Burger 1/2 pound fresh ground beef burger on an onion roll with lettuce, tomato and onion. Add cheddar cheese for $1.00 Want a side? How about $2 for: Seasonal Fresh Fruit Irish Brown Bread Brown Soda Scones Organic Vermont Maple Syrup Potato Cakes Banger Applewood Bacon House-Made Baked Beans 1 Pancake 1 Scone with Gravy 2 Eggs (any style) Sourdough, Rye or Whole Wheat Toast

Biddy's is my neighborhood watering hole. Atmosphere is, well...'neighborhood watering hole', food is standard pub fare. BUT, what you go to Biddy's for is the music and the great service. Seriously. These boys are the most gracious guys out there, never mind the sort of 'irish thug' look, sweet fellas, for real. In a town full of hipsters offering up crappy service, I appreciate the guys at Biddy's. Straight up good service. OH, and there is no TV. Just tunes. :-)

Meh. I keep going back hoping the food gets better but really it's only ok. The burger is good but expensive for such a basic burger. There really isn't anything bad or good to say other than that. Oh, it gets VERY busy on Friday nights. We went in at 8pm on friday and had to escape at 9 to avoid the music and ton of people who had already gathered and blocked the bar. Since they don't have floor staff taking orders it's best to either come early and eat or go elsewhere if you want to listen to the music on a weekend.

Driving to Mount Tabor, my friend's car started to overheat. We left it to cool in the parking lot of a gas station and looked for someplace to wet our whistles while we waited. We found such a place across the street at Biddy's. I'm sure it's much livelier at night, but we were 2 of about 10 people in the whole place. We had a beer, killed a lot of time talking and left when their band started to set up (we were in the way). It was a pleasant way to pass the afternoon.

Wow was I suprised! What a fun little Irish pub with a great Ruben too! Darts are great fun. My wife did find some unwanted cabbage in her pulled pork though.. That's not a joke, she really did..

We went looking for a place to play darts and found that and more. On a quiet Sunday night when we walked in there were a group of folk musicians jamming. They sounded great. The two dart boards are well lit with scoreboards and erasers. Also nice bar and counter to set drinks on when it is your turn to throw. Once the folk musicians left they put on some great bluegrass music! After darts we had a snack of burgers and onion rings which were quickly served and tasty. We will go back next time we need a dart pub. Right up there with the Horse Brass.

Was here 11/14/2014. THE worst service I have ever had at any Pub! No waitress, you have to stand at the crowed bar and wait to order a drink, the food horrible, the fondue was soup. Oh and kids running around, what kind of parents take their kids to a bar? This is an adult establishment, if i wanted to hang out with kids and drink I would go to Chucky Cheese. Have fun watching all the dudes running around looking like their working.

Too bad, this place isn't mine.

this place is your standard irish-american pub. the drinks are strong and the fries are crispy. however, i couldn't shake the feeling that there might be a secret meeting of the IRA going on in a back room or upstairs. i'm not sure why, but it was a creepy feeling. also they have a lot of cool, vintage guiness signs.

I was there last Friday night and the service the worst. The food was horrible as well. Why in the heck don't they hire a cocktail waitress? I asked the bartender where the heck is the waitress or something???? He said they did not have one. WTF!?! Will not be going back. And what bar allows little kids to run around?!? Nobody goes to a bar and wants to hang out with little kids, get a grip, the owner of this place is obviously ignorant to what adults want in a bar. Get some help, your fondue was so darn gross, should have served it with a soup spoon. Nasty.

I'll go back, but NOT to eat.

love the food and the late weekend breakfasts - you always get your money's worth.

Biddy McGraw's is not only my favorite Irish Pub in all of Portland Metro, but my favorite bar period. Good pub food, good weekend brunch, great Irish dishes, awesome music, dancing & darts. The service is always ALWAYS friendly and professional. The drinks are great. Guiness always taste better at Biddys!

Nasty.

    (1)
  • Arnie J.

    (3)
  • Eli L.

    (4)
  • Chris N.

  • Kitt J.

I do love this place....the music is always free, the beer is a true pink and they have my favorite Irish beer here! Also the staff is always friendly and attentive! Cheers!
