Good service and food. Nice place to go. Good people watching and a decent menu. Good drinks and lose loto machines

The place is nice. The prices are affordable. Their food is good. The servers are friendly. Good experience here, and will definitely come back again for more drinks.

I find it pretty ridiculous to order a pizza that comes with mushooms, ask for jalapeños instead and the server says, "we can't substitute, but we can take off the mushroom and charge you for the jalapeños" What the devil is that??? Straight Ghetto!!!!

Food is always good. Had the fish sandwich. Very good. Service lacks. Servers always seem to be confused and not paying attention. Always have to get up and get stuff yourself. This last time she wanted us to pay before we finished eating. She just stood at our table and said we wouldn't have to look for her if we paid now.

I like it here. Laid back, though sometimes there are a lot of frat people. Where do they even come from? There is no university in Milwaukie! Not sure where the service gripes come from, either. Been there about 6 times and have never had a problem, though I sometimes go with a regular there. Elephant ears!

I went last night (Friday night) with family to try out the karaoke. The KJ (Karaoke Jockey) did a good job of intermission music ("These Ho's Ain't Loyal", hip hop dance style) wireless microphone, and a book to check out the songs. It appears if the song you want is not in the book, then he doesn't have it. He is not an 'on the fly karaoke' KJ. Fill out the piece of paper and he will queue the song. When there's not many singers, there will be 1-2 intermission music songs in between singers. I sang 3 songs in about 90 minutes with 5 singers in the rotation. Wireless microphone to 'work the room', the mic worked all the way in the pool table area (@25 feet away from the stage and dance floor area), glitter ball from the ceiling, two screens to view lyrics, light show, and decent sound system. It appears no effects are put on your voice, which can be helpful. I am not the best singer but love to give a 'show.' Heading back tonight with more family to do my best to entertain! 4 stars for not having as many songs as I am used to (My boyfriend was a full time KJ with 100,000+ songs and you could choose the karaoke style you wanted with voice effects, fog machine, laser lights that could beam on you, group singing availability up to 4 singers....on the fly, no paper slips, just tell him what you want, karaoke style...Sound Choice and Sun Fly are best, and away you sing!!! ) and I have been karaoke-ing for 12+ years) I only drank water and had no food, so I don't know how that is.....

the service was excellent!!! had a blue cheese burger that was the bomb!! this right after my horrific visit to the imperial garden...i strongly recommend the grove...great atmosphere & music! a must try! :-) :-) :-)

My server was Christina I believe I had her last time as well. She is very pleasant! She was right the meat loaf was pretty tasty indeed! The potatoes and gravy are good here as well!

Not the best food... Can be a fun place though, good beer, nice staff. If you're in the area, not a bad place to catch some spots and hang out.

Eeeehhhhhhhs alright. Pretty middle ground across the board. Drinks are ok, food is lackluster, staff is friendly enough. The atmosphere is pretty nice, they've got a big building so it stays fairly spacious. Don't order the nachos, though. They're always soggy. They make this huge chili dog which is pretty slammin, but it's hard to get it all down at once and tastes garbo when reheated for some weird reason. I'd go again, but mostly for a bigger group type situation. Not really a happening place for one person or a smaller group. Rather boring, actually. Then again, the main draws are the big TVs for sports, and that ain't my jam. Would probably be a good spot for some sportsbros to faun over their fave ballcatcher at.

Maybe I'll be back? Maaaaybe? really close to my house and decent happy hour prices but the service was terrible. Rude, but for what reason? I had fun though so maybe I shouldn't be so bitter. Pool, drinks, jukebox. Sounds alright to me.

I like this place. Good for breakfast if you're hungover or even if you're not. They make a damn good mimosa omg. We always come here for breakfast. Decided to come for night time since we noticed the drink specials they advertise. Night time was fun too. We went on a Wednesday night and sat night and had no complaints. Drink specials were good :) typical bar food, big portions, karaoke which was quite an experience to observe. It's a nice atmosphere. Fun with a date or with a group of friends.

This place is good for starting the evening of drinking (don't hang around too late though or you'll see all the Milwauke/ Oregon City/ Gladstone dopes start filtering in), and also good for watching ball game of any kind. It's GREAT at serving a very economical and BEAST sized breakfast after your night of drinking and you got a hangover. Waitresses have ample bust for drunken leering, and food menu options are huge, you can get pizza, pasta, burger, nachos, etc, etc, the cook has a lot of work to do back there, haha!! The one down side of this place, they always have some cheesy top 40 radio blaring a little too loud, but once you get drunk enough you don't even notice.

awesome food, kick ass waitresses and prices are in line with other places. pool tables and the burgers and onion rings are to die for.

This is your run of the mill suburban bar. You want a decent greasy spoon weekend breakfast and a bloody mary? Here you go. No frills here. Standard service, standard bar fare.

  • Michael B.

I'll say it again...Some of the best bar food bar food I've had in the area, actually better than a lot of restaurants I've been to. Tried their Large (monster size) chicken fried steak dinner (for lunch) and it was the best I've ever had, better than homemade even... Chicken fried steak was cooked perfectly and not greasy or over breaded. Mashed potatoes were real mashed potatoes and the chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes were cover with awesome sausage gravy which had a lot of good sized chunks of sausage in it. Everything I've ever eaten here has been great but so far this is my favorite dish, awesome!

Service was unsatisfactory but the atmosphere overall was okay! We drank and played pool. There's a jukebox, fireplace and three pool tables. AC for the summer. They take cards. Two PBR pints during HH were $3!

  • Kory C.

they charge for ranch now. used to get the same take out item every week, which was $9.20. so id give them $10 and give them the change. nice and easy. now they charge $1 for ranch making the item I usually order the awful price of $10.20. ranch is a side sauce that should be included with the meal. only if an extra ranch is ordered should it be an additional charge. really annoying. the grove lost a customer over a side sauce. well played guys, well played.

I studied the area and read a few reviews for the Grove and neighboring restaurants. I chose the Grove after reading a few reviews. This was my 3rd visit here over the years, but this time I was really impressed. I was greeted immediately by the bar tender and a waitress helped me find a booth with a power outlet nearby. ( I used my laptop at the booth to write this review) My waitress (Lynette G) was superb. She looked sharp, and gave me a very high degree of professional service with a smile. I got the Biscuits and Gravy which came very quickly and HOT. It was a nice sized helping for $6.95! The eggs were cooked just as I ordered and the gravy was very good. The Grove is a local institution....older, but was clean and well maintained. Even the men's room was clean. I like the vibe....dark woods / soft music / sports bar flavor to it. I'll be back!

The Grove makes the best homemade soup in Portland! Always fresh and consistently fantastic. The daily specials are always great as well. The best deal is on game night were the chef serves sirloin sliders that melt in your mouth.

Terrible service and really rude employees. We had to go to the bar to get our drinks and the bartender as actually annoid that we did that and the one server that never left the bar was upset because she didn't get tipped. The owner actually has photos on the wall of him spying on the employees. Creepy. One and done.

This place is horrible. They kicked me out of this sports bar along with my husband because I didn't have my ID and yet I didn't bring it because I'm fucking 8 months pregnant!!! Idiots if a cop walked into a bar and really wanted to get you guys in trouble they could just take my name down and look me up by the Drivers license number and see that I'm 26 years old! I will never go here again! I'm am still shocked. Yes you can lose your license if you're serving under age persons but not if I'm not drinking any cop would never go up to me in that bar because they would see I'm pregnant and NOT drinking. Thank you for managing to make a pregnant lady's pregnancy worse! Great customer service!

I'm giving his 4 stars because it is a great spot to watch football. We go here for the breakfast and to watch the morning NFL games. The food is solid, they also have a buffet during the NFL season. The drinks are good, they make a nice Bloody Mary and Spanish coffee. It can be hit or miss depending on the bar tender. The staff is friendly but they seem short handed often. They do a good job though.

I like The Grove for breakfast. While it is not out of your way special for the most part, it is if you want a German pancake. They are big, crispy on the edges, buttery and eggy in the center with plenty of lemon to squeeze on. I like their jalapeño sausages, you cannot buy them at the store, we asked. They are super juicy with a slight heat and small pockets of cheddar. I am not a big fan of the omelettes, pancakes or French toast. They all seem pretty substandard. You can build your own omelette, and there are plenty of toppings to choose from which is nice. The atmosphere is casual. The cocktails are usually stiff and the prices are decent. The German pancake is the way to go, and it is worth the extra wait.

  • Mitch S.

Good drinks, great food...though a bit expensive, and they have recently increased prices. The bar and wait staff are awesome, they make this a regular spot of mine. I tend to not eat here, as I can easily find less expensive food elsewhere.

    (3)
  • Pam S.

Food was good, prices seemed reasonable, until we got charged for every single condiment, they charged for salsa for the tacos! I have never been anywhere that salsa does not come with a frigin taco, that is so,petty and cheap! I have to say my burger was excellent, but being dinged for condiments that should come for free with your meal is just bullcrap!

Dive in! I grew up not too far from here. It has been at least four different things in my memory. Such is Milwaukie though. I think The Grove is here to stay. I went with a friend to watch some pro American Football. Lots of TVs and free pool. Then I saw this Breakfast buffet. I do love me a good buffet, however I was suspect, the last buffet I had at a dive wasn't worth the 15 cents as the name suggested (Anyone guess where this is? Prize if you do) I was treated to a smorgasbord of goodies such as real bacon (not the crap that you get from Lenny's which is obviously packaged and reheated), real ham, chicken fried steak (a little too dry for my tastes, but I've had worse), real sausages of all varieties, eggs benedict (I loved the faux poached eggs, very clever idea), pancakes, potatoes and eggs. I was in heaven. Kicked back, watched my fantasy team get slaughtered, eat my self into some meat sweats, it was a good day. I noticed that there were many people there just for the food. That says something when you have all this wonderful football going on around you too. Should I be back in the homeland I'll definitely give The Grove a look again. However, if you think my experience was golden and I should just call it good and not come back for Karaoke, I can abide.

Come for karaoke Friday and saturdays!!!! Karaoke man knows what's up! Very friendly and professional, has a crazy good selection of songs and is awesome about getting new songs if he doesn't yet have them. Guaranteed to have a good time. the food is great and the waitresses are very attentive, even when the place is packed.

Needed a pizza fix! Didn't think a bar would have good pizza, but sometimes after a couple beers who cares!! Well it ended up being very good. Made on the spot i believe. Talked to other customers about it and they said it is one of the reasons they come here. "great Pizza" Prices are average. Fun joint. Karaoke at night with a full range of participants and entertainment. Pool tables. Lots of TV's. I will be back for NBA finals/pizza/beer. Enjoy..........

Great place, I used to go here a lot back when they had PPV UFC showings because unlike other restaurant with sports events this place always had space. Their burgers were great and so were the Kringle cut fries but I never really had anything else. The service was great and their employees made me feel like a regular quickly. The reason I stop going here was because they stopped doing PPV events and that was my sports place of choice.

Just moved to this area of town and wanted something to eat before heading out with the hubby to go shopping. Had a coupon from the Entertainment book and decided to give this place a try. So... Food was very good. Hubby had the bacon cheeseburger and salad, and I had the chicken Parmesan. Hubby loved his and at every bite, as did I with the chicken. I liked the spaghetti as it had a slight kick to it which I am assuming is from crushed red pepper flakes. Not enough to over power, but just enough to leave a hit of yum in your mouth. Only mistake we made was ordering appetizers. Even though we got the 1/2 order, they were large, and a great value for the price. The 1/2 order of tots is a giant basket of them, and the 1/2 order of chili cheese fries are a huge plate of them. Definitely enough to share or skip all together, as once we were done with them and our salads, we were not longer sure we could eat lunch. Our server was very nice and attentive. She asked several times if we needed anything else and filled up my hubby's water 3 times and my ice tea once (not because she was slow but because I did not drink that much). Over all it was a good experience and we will definitely be back again.

average sports bar. 3 pool tables, darts, a few arcade games and a lot of tvs everywhere. Prices are reasonable and the food is not half bad. Good place to go to hang out and watch a game :)

I want to give this place 6 stars because they do work hard and try to create a fun atmosphere. The food is good some are great. This place is not a fancy restaurant with super chefs but it is a great place to go relax or go with some friends watch a game play some pool and have some drinks. For a small little town bar and restaurant they have a nice variety and every time I go in the waitresses are always friendly. I will continue going back to this place. I have had only great experiences perhaps one day I will have a poor experience but noone is perfect. Do you want some comfort food and nice people this is a great place. Better than average bar food good prices and the drinks are not half bad. I'm sorry if other people don't like my review but I find that the truth is best. And the honest reviews actually have helped me decide where to go. I take it seriously and I since I have only had good experiences at tg the Grove I give 5 stars thank you to the cooks at the Grove for the tasty food and cooking how I asked and thanks to the servers even when it is busy still doing your job with a smile!

The staff at The Grove are really nice, so is the owner. The food is really good, way better than typical bar food. The Italian Combination Plate is yummy, so is the Chicken Fried Steak and the Rib Eye. The vegetables with dinner entrees are cooked to order, they are SO good. Nice, crisp green salads and I think the ranch dressing is homemade. We have not tried the breakfast there yet but I would expect it to be great.

Better than expected. I anticipated this would be a trashy biker bar with no class. It's not high class for sure, but there's a full bar and decent food. They have wait staff that make an effort. It's not much to look at but it's clean enough and comfortable. After visiting for breakfast returned another time for a karaoke night and had fun. It's lively and you can tell everyone is enjoying themselves. We'll definitely be back when we want a relaxing and interesting bar experience, or a quick breakfast.

My husband and I dropped the 4 year old kiddo off at a birthday party, and came here to have lunch and watch the Indiana/Purdue bball game. I am a huge IU fan, and since the game and the party started at the same time, I had already missed tip off. Now, the game was on ESPN, and this is a sports pub. Of the 19 TV's they have don't you think ONE might be playing ESPN?? Nope. Several were on infomercial channels however. So, we seated ourselves in front of one of those, and waited for our waitress so we could have her switch channels. And we waited. And we waited. Meanwhile, I am following the game on twitter. So my husband gets up and asks a server (not ours apparently) who was nearby to switch the TV to ESPN. She said she would, no problem. 10 minutes later, still no server, and still no ESPN. Finally our server comes and asks us if we are ready to order. I said, 'yes, but first can you switch the TV to ESPN?' She said 'OK' and walked away. I assumed she went to go change the channel. Nope. 10 more minutes, no ESPN and no order put in. Finally, we went to ask the bartender who immediately switched it for us. But by this time I had missed a good chunk of the first half. Then our server came back and took our order. I got the french dip, and my husband got nachos. My french dip was actually quite good, which is the only reason for the 2 stars. My husband said that his nachos were tasteless. All they had on them were cheese and chicken. So he asked for some jalapenos to put on top. I think jalapenos are a standard nacho topping. I guess they don't agree since they CHARGED us for a 'side' of 5 jalapeno slices in a little plastic cup!!!!!! Never will set foot in there again.

Let me start off saying that I love the grove. They have amazing cheap food! The bloody Mary's! They are so good! They have pool tables and tons of tv's. All the staff is great! BUT... There is a new lady. She is a round lady and has black hair. Her service is terrible, we waited forever for our food and drink. We waited for our tab. And we waited for our boxes. Horrible experience. I will always go back. But she is terrible. Avoid her.

The Grove is a great place to go after work (especially for the specials on Wednesdays), and hang out with friends and get some food for a great price. In the several times I have been, I usually get the fries, or some nachos or other bar "finger foods." I tend to stay away from any menu items that seem a little "high-falootin'." because this is, after all, a bar, and your expectations should be adjusted accordingly --this is bar food, and they do a good job of it. As Bar/restaurants go, give this place a shot if you're on McLoughlin.

    (4)
  • Mitchel J.

They have a huge menu and almost everything is good on it for a great price. UFC nights are never too busy but they are always full and exciting. Most of the waitresses are really friendly and helpful. My only real problem with The Grove is their beer. They have a pretty crappy beer menu especially for a popular bar. There isn't an actual rotating tap that ever rotates and the IPA is the same old boring Bridgeport. I wish I could go in there and get Ninkasi or Hopworks or at least have a new rotating tap every couple months. This isn't to say The Grove is bad at all I would just go there a lot more often if the refreshments were better which is really what you look for in a bar. All in all the service and food put them up to a three and a half or four star review.

  • Alex C.

Bartender was nice and poured an okay drink. Food is fine, just your average bar food--at least what I had. On the negative side there was a waitress there that ignored us the two hours we were there. We had to get up to get our menus and she saw us looking at them and made no attempt to ask us if we needed anything. She spent her time talking to some of her friends that came in. I know that when it comes to tipping people get really particular, but our food was ready and she told the bartender to go get it for us because it was his ticket. I have worked as a bartender/waitress and in retail and you should always put the customer first. Forget about the petty stuff. So props to the bartender for being the only one working all night, but the waitresses definitely need to work on their customer service.

The Grove is as good as it gets. We love this bar, not just for the fun on Wednesday dollar drink nights, but also for their full menu. They have great burgers, pasta, pizza, and steaks. The happy hour menu just got even better when they added more items and made the drinks a dollar off regular prices. The Grove has the best biscuits and gravy in Oregon, according to my boyfriend, and I am in love with the southwest chicken corn chowder. Be sure to check out the grove if you are ever in the area.

I will absolutely come back here! Food was amazing!! Super fresh salad, taco's and the best french fries in town. Came here to watch the fights and there wasn't any direction that I couldn't see it because of the abundance of flat screen tv's.

The Wife and Tax Deduction were away on a trip to see friends and it was Sunday, a very sacred and holy day to me for it is football season. Instead of watching alone (actually we have two needy Bassett Hounds, you're never really alone in our house) I went over to Best Friend #1's apartment in Milwaukie so that we could watch alone, but together. Part way through the day we started to talk about food and the pressing need for it. BF#1 is a bachelor so he had no food in the house and we talked about places to go. Since it was a sports day and decided that a sports bar was in order. He mentioned an okay kinda place on McLoughlin called The Grove. We piled into his Subaru Urban Transport Vehicle and headed for food and drink. From the outside The Grove looks like it might have at one time been a Shakey's Pizza, which if you ever ate at one you would know isn't a good thing. We walked in and right off the bat I counted 11 televisions, so far so good. As we ventured in further it was apparent they allowed smoking in here, but it wasn't acrid smoke in the air, just an odor. I decided silently that I could live with it, and I am a hard core non-smoker, but I don't hate people that do. It quickly became a non-issue for me. We seated ourselves (nice touch) and set about being mesmerized by an all encompassing visual assault of the NFL and NBA . The menu was largely pub style fare, without the expensive and pleasing pub style decor. All the usual appetitizers, burgers, pizza, italian pasta dishes and sandwiches. Since the Wife and the Tax Deduction were over 100 miles away I could be bad and order stuff that was bad for me. It's a rule I have followed closely now for about 9 hours. BF#1 ordered a more restrained club sandwich and salad while I ordered the Grove Burger, which has cheese, ham, bacon and egg on it. For you McMenamin's fans that would be a "Wilbur". Then BF#1 and I decide on an appetitizer and order the chili-cheese fries. A full order. His Miiror Pond Ale arrived with my Iced Tea (I rarely drink, it's some kind of birth defect, I'm hoping for a telethon to raise money and find a cure) very quickly and we realigned our attention spans to the manly sports surrounding us. A short time later this large plate of chili-cheese fries arrives and we both comment about how good it looked. The waitress then says, "Sorry guys, the kitchen made the half order, they're doing another half for you now." This was a half order? I would say it was a small casserole dish sized, about 9x6 and piled high. They were very good. The chili is homemade they say and it didn't disappoint. An excellent appetizer, but trust me, get the half order. How can you screw up a club sandwich? You can't, they didn't and BF#1 recommends his highly. My burger was perfectly grilled, piled high and all the ingredients were quality from the bun to the cheese to the egg. A guilty pleasure for sure (because when Wife reads this, I will be guilty!). A photo of our dishes is in my picture area of my profile. It's more sports bar than bar/restaurant and it could have been a little cleaner, service a tad more friendly and a recirculating air filter might help things, but when it came down to it we desired a place to watch football, eat good food and drink our personal preferences. The Grove handled all of that well. Rumor is they are well known for their breakfasts too.

On my way to IHOP, I see a big sign on this building the says "BREAKFAST". I like trying different restaurants so I pulled into The Grove. Not much to look at from the outside. Outside carpet is worn and duct tape down and the building needs a paint job. Even with this, I still went in. Immediately upon entering, I noticed that it was not very fancy like the other sports bars but it was very clean. When you look up, you are hit with an array of TV's displaying many sports channels. Obeying the "Seat Yourself" sign, I sat at a table where I can see almost all the TV's. On the menu, I took a chance and ordered the porkchop breakfast because I haven't had them for a while and if the PC was bad, I could still eat the eggs, hashbrowns and toast. When my order arrived, it was a large porkchop cooked just right, very tender and juicy. The eggs were fluffy and the hashbrowns were nice and crispy on the outside. This was the best meal I had for a very long time. I took my time and enjoyed every morsel of that meal. You better believe I will be back for more.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon to watch the Ducks and have linner, which we define as something between lunch and dinner. We were not as impressed as some of the people writing reviews here. The service was good, after we finished our meal the server, asked if we were going to hang out and watch the game and subsequently left us along but not abandoned. And the barkeep bellowed his thanks as we left (always ingratiating). Food: OK, it was bar grub. maybe that should be nuf said, but from the previous reviews I was looking for something more, so here goes. The french fries were industrial, crinkle cut, lots of them, but could have been fresh cut or steak fries. I got a chili burger; again LOTs of it basically a 1/3lb burger and then the entire platter covered with chili and fries piled on top. (lots of food) The burger patty was good but lost in the chili and appeared to be too well done. Usually one is asked how you would like the burger cooked if it's 1/3lb in my experience. Chili was very good, but I didn't ask for the recipe. My wife had the garlic shrimp pasta, which was another "lots of food" serving and the garlic was pronounced even from across the table, beyond that I can't tell you much. Two fire places (unlit when we were there and two or three pool tables, equally unused while we were there. A karaoke DJ was setting up as we were leaving and they were breaking down the folding chairs that were in the center of the restaurant. We WILL go back but with lower expectations than the first time.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
