After living in the general area for 20+ years and driving by here hundreds,if not thousands of times, and getting a bonus check I decided it's time to treat the wife to a fancy dinner. WOW, McDonald's would have been better. There were three tables, including ours, and one waitress. We waited 20 minutes for water. Finally we ordered and got the food. Very very disappointing. All that being said, I still may have just been done.....however.... We finished what we could choke down, and waited...and waited....and waited..... We NEVER ONCE WERE VISITED by the waitress after we got our food. NOT ONCE. No, how is it? No, Do you need anything? If that wasn't bad enough, after we finished our meal, we waited 45 minutes while watching her go to one table (of the 3) SIX TIMES! Before throwing our money for the meal n the table and walking out. we get to our car (which is down a hill) and she hollers at us and says "are you leaving". HELL YES WE ARE. For the price, the food sucked, but that I can handle. However the service is unacceptable. 3 tables, and she couldn't stop by once IN AN HOUR! Save your money and go to Wendy's....or ANYWHERE BUT HERE!

We have difficulty with hills and stairs. Having said that, once we got into Amadeus, the place was wonderful. The views are amazing and the food and service were exceptional. The warm and friendly atmosphere in an old manor house felt like we were dining in someone's home. Everything we had was delicious. The owner and staff were wonderful.

My husband and I went there tonight for dinner.....what we experienced was better than we could have imagined! The food was spectacular, the ambiance was amazing and the hospitality was incredible! The entire evening was fabulous!! I cannot say enough about this beautiful restaurant and all it's charm!! The fresh fragrant flowers, the view, the history and beautiful background music made for a memorable night! I would give this 10 stars if I could!!!!

This is more like a 2.5. The place is cool; don't get me wrong. It is nice for a valentines day dinner, and the experience is awesome. I would definitely recommend trying it. The food isn't worth it though. The mashed potatoes weren't that good; they reminded me of school food. The salmon that we had was also pretty plain. I'd like to give this place another shot, but it's kind of expensive and not worth it. Simply put: the food is sub par, but the location/building is unique and cool to see.

After walking through the huge Wooden door we were warmly greeted by Cristiana who immediately made us feel like family. She sat us at a table right by the grand fireplace. My family and I ordered the Seafood Medley, Cordon Bleu, and the Austrian feast. The food was amazing and the portion sizes large. We ended the night with chocolate cake and coffee. The ambiance, service, and food was excellent and we will definitely be returning.

I cannot believe that they are still in business if the way they treated us is anything to go by. We had a coupon, and were being treated as if we had committed a crime by wanting to use it. The owner tried to force additional food on us and said some ugly things. I know how restaurants are run as I come from a restaurant owning family and this was hands down the worst dining experience ever. I hadn't read the other reviews before going and now can confirm them to be 100% true. Good thing we walked out before the meal began, as I couldn't stand being treated like that for a second more. Fast food restaurants have much better service and behavior, and are exactly 10 times cheaper. Such businesses should be shut down immediately. Uncouth behavior and cheating owner. Or maybe she is completely insane. To add to this, the food looked terrible; worse than frozen food.

This place was like being transported to a different country, from the beauty of the grand piano in the foyer, to our table by the cozy fire, the luxurious ambiance abounded. We had a bottle of the Rodney Strong merlot at our servers suggestion, and its quality was a good indicator of the treasures to come. Our first course was a chicken liver pate in cognac that I have no words for, truly amazing and bold are all I can say. I would have been happy with just that. My husband had the roasted garlic and goat cheese which paired beautifully with our Merlot. Our server brought over a candle held in a gorgeous crystal holder as the sun went down, and we lost track of time talking and just reveling in the beauty of the room. She then brought a mint sorbet that she termed a "pallete cleanser" it was unexpectedly refreshing and I suppose did just what was intended. The music of Mozart resonated throughout the dining hall and I was just in heaven waiting for our entree. The entree came just as we completed our sorbet, we were truly never waiting for our server, it felt like she was always anticipating our needs. I ordered the Austrian schnitzel and it was perfectly cooked. Crispy buttery breading enveloped a tender moist cutlet. The dinner just couldn't get any better. The icing on the cake was our server bringing out a box with 5 slices of cheesecake for us to take home to our children(which may or may not have made it home to them). Truly a hidden gem! I can't wait to return!!

The ambiance of this place is without a doubt worthy of 5 stars. The service for us was about a 4.5 and the food was good but a tad inconsistent so probably a 3. First, anyone complaining that the place was "dusty" is an idiot. This is a stone building dating to the 1920's with open hearth fireplaces. It's not the same as eating at a strip mall with freshly painted sheet rock and that's the biggest part of its charm. Our table had fresh cut flowers and overall excellent décor. The building itself is nothing short of stunning. As for the service...the owner is very attentive and charming (right down to the thick, hard to understand accent). Keep in mind however that this isn't the type of place you come to and expect to be in and out in an hour. The service was slower but that appeared to be by design. That said, I don't discredit some of the service related complaints already mentioned. I got the distinct impression that things could bog down in a hurry if the place was packed (we got there before the evening dinner crowd). All I can say however is the service for us, on this particular day, was charming and quite good. That leaves the food. Frankly, given the price (most options in the $30 range) I can't say the food lived up to the ambiance of the manor itself. I really liked the menu options but overall it just didn't have the attention to detail I wanted in a "fine dining" experience. As an example, they give you a fruit sorbet as a palate cleanser. This was an excellent and unexpected surprise. The sorbet itself was quite good however it was clearly intended to have a raspberry theme. I noticed two raspberries as I started eating and something that clearly wasn't a raspberry. Being a redneck at heart my first thought was that the remaining "berry" was something exotic and worth a try. My gf's suspicion was confirmed when I bit into a cherry tomato (her suspicion being both that it was a tomato and that I am an idiot). After more thought than I care to admit, I'm now confident that this wasn't by design and just seems like a weird mistake to make. I'd also point out that the cut of meat used for my filet had quite a bit of gristle. Overall I tend to agree with an earlier commentator that this place would be a great candidate for some kind of kitchen disaster makeover. I say that not because this place is in any way a real disaster but because it has so much potential and truly could be one of the best restaurants in the Northwest with just a little fine tuning.

First off, what I am about to write pains me, but you need to have this info before you make a reservation. I don't like writing bad reviews but you, dear readers, need this info before you go. My husband and I met our friends there for a celebratory dinner. It was their pick, after having seen it on TV. OK, I grew up in Milwaukie, so I was game for it. First impression: great location and interesting 1920's residential architecture. Nice view of the river: 4 stars Second impression: dining room is nice and the fireplace is aww-worthy. Our table is next to a window, with a view of the river: 4 stars for the initial ambience. The table: It was set nicely, with vintage china. That was quite pretty, and different than the usual restaurant dishes. However, the flatware was cheap, stamped metal, more suitable for a diner than a "fine restaurant". There was a large spray of lilies in a gallon-sized glass container on the window ledge next to the table. Some were wilted and beginning to have that "I'm past my prime and I stink" smell to them. Also, the water in the container was murky. 2 stars The servers: We were waited on by two women who were pleasant, but not super organized. They looked quite rumpled, and did not have graceful serving skills befitting of a "fine restaurant": 2 stars Drinks. One companion had a fairly benign beer and the rest of us each ordered a glass of some rather pedestrian pinot grigio. But that's OK, because I like $6 bottles of pinot grigio - when I am picnic'ing at the river. 3 stars Appetizers, three of us ordered the "wilted spinach salad", and let me tell you, it was neither wilted nor worth the $9.95 price tag. What a TOTAL disappointment. A few bagged spinach leaves, 3 slices of hothouse tomato and 3 wedges of hard-boiled egg, all served with a dressing that was of the vinaigrette variety - but quite chunky. One companion ordered the roasted garlic and goat cheese, but did not finish it. Definitely a sharing appetizer, and not overly remarkable. Another ordered the escargots, which had more mushroom, tomato and pernod butter than actual escargots, and no toast points to eat them with. I really do like to have toast points - personal preference: 2 stars Palate cleanser: This was the absolute best part of the meal. It was a pineapple and mint sorbet that was quite crystalline and very, very delicious. I wish I would have just stopped there and paid the bill: 5 stars. Main course: Two of us ordered the steak oscar, which was to be a filet mignon, wrapped in bacon and topped with a crab gorgonzola sauce. One companion ordered the beef stroganoff and another the pork schnitzel. All were served with a vegetable medly including cauliflower, carrots and zucchini, which seemed overcooked. Why on earth would someplace like this not serve seasonal produce and save the cruciferous veggies for wintertime? The schnitzel: Adequate, but not delicious. It was tough and a little flat tasting. However, this was the best of the 4 entrees ordered. 3 stars The stroganoff: I'm just not sure what to say about this. It arrived at the table in a big salad bowl - Penne pasta with a stroganoff-type sauce over it and 3 medallions of beef laying on top - not incorporated in the dish. I think those medallions might have been yesterday's filet that didn't sell (?). And, I might be old fashioned, but I have always had stroganoff with egg noodles. The penne just seemed out of place: 1 star Steak oscar: This makes me really sad to write, but first, one bright spot - the sauce had a pretty nice flavor. Mingled with the juices from the meat, it was good. The steak, however, had a distinct weirdness about it. First, the bacon wrap was pushed aside as neither crisp nor flavorful. The meat arrived at the table and mine was shockingly undercooked. I ALWAYS order my steak medium rare. It's just how I roll. This was so rare that it was purple and cool to the touch in the inside. Definitely not what I ordered. My companion ordered hers rare, and was satisfied that it was cooked to her liking. The really strange thing about it was the texture. I am pretty darn sure these little filets were the type that are "pre-marinated" and sold pre-packaged. The texture of the meat gave it away. It was, somehow, spongy: 1 star Dessert: flourless chocolate cake with raspberries and softly whipped (clotted) cream. This was nice. I liked it, but would not order it myself. We received 2 free desserts because of the steak issue, and because it was our friend's anniversary. That was a nice and unexpected gesture: 3 stars What really gave me a shock was the price tag for this dinner: $227, before tip. If the food had been superb, I would have happily paid handsomely for it. But this left me feeling really sad, and kinda poor: ZERO stars for the quality-to-price ratio!

We were extremely disappointed with this restaurant. Sure the view is gorgeous but they treat you like dirt when you want to use a coupon, then don't offer them to be purchased!!!!!!! The escargo was way over cooked I think our waitress had one too many cocktails in the back and they messed up our checks 3 times would never ever go back.

The food was good, the service was snobby and I probably won't be back unless dragged back. Brought my boyfriend here on date night and had high hopes... I had bought a Groupon and the lady rolled her eyes at me. Honestly I always over order and over tip to make up for the Groupon discount.... but I almost didn't because of her behavior. If they don't want Groupon customers then they should probably stop sending out Groupons.

The good: Between two of us, we had the escargot, the mushroom soup, the wilted spinach salad, and the "Austrian Feast." The escargot were some of the best I've ever had, flavorful and tender, and prepared a bit unconventionally with red wine and a tomato-mushroom ragout in addition to the traditional garlic, oil and butter. The spinach salad and mushroom soup were very good, and most of the items on the Austrian platter were tasty as well. The not-so-good: Service was odd... We had a few wines recommended to us (we were verbally given the choices of Cab, Merlot, Pinot Grigio and Spatlese (?)) but we had to ask before we got a list. Courses were brought to us before we had finished the previous ones, whose empty dishes sat on the table for a long time. We were by ourselves for a long time in general, in between rushed bouts of attention. We also got too much information regarding the host's medical condition. Wine bottle prices were 3-4x retail, which is unfortunately common, but our bottle of Pinot Noir was quite drinkable. A lot of people write about the view, which is marvelous. But, there are only four or so tables from which you can really look out the windows, so you may wish to specify your desire for a window table when you make your reservation. Groupon users beware: read the fine print! We spent over $100 on starters, wine, and one huge entree to share - but they would not honor the Groupon because we did not buy two entrees. It wasn't a terrible evening, but I will be having my next $100+ dining experience elsewhere. Anybody know how to apply for a refund from Groupon?

Hands down the best service in town! Christina is the sweetest!! And the food- amazing. So pleased with it all, beginning to end! The mushroom soup is impeccable. I ordered the chicken and my fiancé the tilapia, both very well seasoned/cooked. Tasted fresh, definitely no complaints! And spectacular views!

Perhaps this is a great place on a "normal" night but not so on Valentine's day! We had reservations but it didn't seem to matter. We arrived to find only one or two workers with a full house and a line out the door. I heard someone ask where the restrooms were located, only to be told by a worker "I don't know, I'm just a volunteer." When seated, we were placed at a dirty table, not completely cleared. We sat there for nearly an HOUR without having an order taken, without having drinks served, without even being waited upon other than the guy who brought us water-ONCE. Finally we left, along with some other couples. Needless to say, our romantic dinner was ruined and we were left hungry.

I took my cousin and her husband to Amadeus Manor for her birthday and we had a great experience. Amadeus Manor is a fine dining restaurant that serves Austrian and other European classics. The views of the Willamette River are stunning, and the dining room is comfortable yet formal. We made reservations for 7:00, but we did not need to because we were the only party in the dining room for the evening. The service and food was exceptional. Christian was the consumate host. She attended to our every need, making suggestions when we didn't know where to begin and strongly recommending certain items. With her thick German/Austrian accent, you can imagine as she recommended the mushroom soup, "You will have it. You must," she strongly belted, as we chose each course. I was careful, and had the Austrian platter, which had a nice selection of Bavarian specialties; the schnitzel was delicious, the sauerkraut - all made on site, very different than the jarred kraut you sling on hot dogs. The piece-de-resistance, was the Bavarian chocolate torte. You have to try it, because mere words will not do justice. We highly recommend Amadeus Manor. It is a shame that this fine restaurant is not a part of the usual Portland restaurant scene. I am secretly glad it's not. It's kind of a best kept secret.

Lovely place, great food...but I am afraid they may be gone for good. There was a listing on Craigslist yesterday for a "huge estate sale" at Amadeus Manor, and it was selling restaurant equipment and china :( If this is the case, Milwaukie has lost a unique establishment.

I really, really hate to be the wet blanket here, because it's clear that Amadeus is a very well-loved establishment right outside of Portland. God knows it's been around long enough. Also, my dad loves this place, and made my mom go with her a lot back in the '80s. My initial reaction after brunching here was a gung-ho 2-stars, and even now as I write this review, I have yet to allot stars, just because I'm just not sure. Give 'em two stars? God knows I was annoyed that it took an hour for coffee to finally reach me. And the foliage on the plates and tables, the decor, and the palate-cleansing pineapple-peppermint ice was straight out of the '60s, and not my thing. At all. I was definitely channeling Heidi that morning with all the dated Europeanness. At the same time, though, I was part of a huge party, and even though we had reservations, that's just a lot for two servers to handle. So maybe I shouldn't doc so much for the wait and for the two-hour-long sesh. Because, then there was the view. Which, let's be honest, was damn stunning. I actually walked in and thought for a split second that it was an enormous painting. Alas, it was a window. And then there was the food. All palate-cleansers aside, the corn muffins were good, the mimosas kept on coming, and my French toast was pretty awesome. The brunch menu was not extensive, and almost all of the food on it will make you a solid candidate for a triple bypass. However, I didn't hear one peep of criticism by anyone at the table--we all enjoyed the French toast, the eggs benedict, the eggs benedict with gravelax, the quiche of the day, and the omelet of the day. Prices, though, are steep, and it's always a factor that I strongly consider in my reviews. Is eggs benedict worth $16? Really? Not in my book. And I'm not sure if I would line up to pay $12 for the French toast again, either (this was the most frugal on the menu). The service, though, was very accommodating, and whoever was working the kitchen was a freaking genius to get 15+ plates out at nearly the same time, all hot. Bravo! So...I'll be fair. Four stars. That toast was pretty good!

I tried this place out quite honestly because I was bored, hungry and found a coupon in the newspaper for early bird specials and appetizers. To my chagrin when I arrived the owner walked up behind me to unlock the door about an hour after they were supposed to have opened. The owner told me to look around while she chatted with people planning their wedding reception dinner. When she got around to giving me a menu there were no appetizers or early bird specials. When I asked about them she offered to let me pick one of the two least expensive items on the menu and get a smaller portion for $10 (no appetizers?). The food: homemade bread was very good, the entree not so much. I ordered her chicken special that was overcooked and dry. There were strawberry slices on top of what tasted like dehydrated boxed mash potatoes. When I couldn't finish the "meal" (because I had week old left overs in the fridge that tasted better) she offered to not charge me for my beer (I paid anyway) and gave me a homemade shaved ice sorbet (which was very good). She was very friendly and told me some probably too personal stories while I waited half an hour for my food, however I can't in good conscience give a higher rating as it is a fairly expensive restaurant and I would feel bad if someone paid full price and got similar quality food. With that said there are some pretty good reviews from fellow yelpers so maybe my meal was a fluke?

My sweet husband took me here for Valentine's day last night. His family is of Austrian descent, mine is German, so we both like that type of food & are very familiar with it. The building is AMAZING. But the decor is weird/old/falling apart. I think this place might do better on an average night but falls apart for big days/events. We ate upstairs, and I think maybe the downstairs is put together better decor-wise. The chandelier in the room we were in was falling apart and was so low that everyone kept bumping into it. Tables were placed poorly and ours kept being bumped into. No music upstairs which seemed to prompt one somewhat drunk woman into striking up profanity laced conversations with neighboring tables and making cracks about the chandelier anytime anyone walked past. The food was way overcooked. Salmon & pork were dry. Veggies overcooked. It was all edible but not special. I chalk this up to a volume of customers they coudln't handle. But also probably this place is suffering in this economy & just isn't using the best ingredients or chefs. I suspect at one time this was a great place, but they've failed to keep up with the times and the menu was seriously outdated. They only have 1 beer available which we thought was odd for an Austrian place. Wine menu appears to be printed about 10 years ago & is in a heavily handled plastic sleeve, like the kind you get at office depot. Our waitress was clearly in over her head. To demonstrate this she kept talking to herself so everyone could hear: "OK YOU NEED YOUR SALAD" "AH-I FORGOT YOUR BREAD!" all the while slowly running around in this cramped upstairs. Nice lady, but this was quite distracting. Clientele seemed to be all 60+ except for a few of us in the 20s-30s demographic. And I think that's who they're catering to here. I don't mean to sound snarky-but I think anyone 50 and below paying this type of price is expecting a more authentic Austrian menu, higher quality ingredients, better beer selection, a current wine menu not in a grimey fingerprinted plastic sleeve, and a waitstaff who are professional.

I've only visited Amadeus once, for my sister's engagement party. I can't speak much on the menu, since it was preset, but I can speak on the food. It was probably some of the best food I've ever had. Or at least the salmon dish was. I can't recall exactly what I ate (since it's been a while) but I remember it was so delicious that I still think about it to this day. The private room in which we were placed was beautifully decorated. It was on one of the top floors with great views of the Willamette valley and river. The service was quick and helpful. I couldn't rave more and look forward to one day visiting again.

We went here in the Fall and had a wonderful authentic European meal complete with palette cleansers and amazing dessert. We used our Entertainment Book, otherwise it was out of our budget. The menu is simple and easy to browse. There is live piano music and a dynamic view of the Willamette River. Every table had fresh flowers and we were able to tour the wine cellar, the upper rooms and the grounds after dinner. This is a great romantic place for a date. I'd probably go once a year.

This restaurant is about as gorgeous as it gets. I felt like I was in a european manor. I had the seafood medley and it was delish. They served an amazing fruit sorbet between courses. One thing to note is that I don't think there were any vegetarian entrees on the menu, so if you're vegetarian you might want to check first. Here's why I deducted two stars. After our meal we had to wait THIRTY minutes for our check. The woman and man who served us were very courteous, but after we received our entrees we never saw them again. No offer of desert, coffee, nada. The dining room only had about four tables occupied, so it's crazy that we had to wait so long. Never make a customer wait to pay. It leaves a bad last impression.

So after reading a few of the reviews on this place, the hubs & I decide to give it a whirl..... although, we headed out for dinner, not brunch. We arrive around 7:30-8-ish on a Tuesday night, & our first thought is, "Are we in the right place?", our second thought is, "I know we called, but is it open?"....... well, we were, & they were....... & that's where our story begins! We climb the stone steps to the renovated majestic house turned restaurant/wedding venue, sitting high atop the hill overlooking the city & river. The views from the dining rooms are amazing. We sat comfortably by the fireplace (that was so big I could literally stand in it!), & looked out the window that provided a gorgeous view.... & it was a clear night, so with no problem, we could see all the way to OHSU. We didn't have to slip the waiter any extra Benjamin's for this choice seat either..... we were the only people in the entire restaurant!! That made us panic a little, but I had faith that my fellow Yeeps would not steer me wrong, & we were in for a wonderful meal. A wonderful meal indeed!! A truly all around 5-star experience! Service was warm, friendly.... & certainly attentive. All kidding aside, only one other table came in for dinner while we were there, so if the service was bad, that would have been pretty inexcusable..... but I am going to go out on a limb here, & say, just from our interaction with our server, he knows what he's doing, & could easily work a room! & the food....... AMAZING!!!!! Delicious. Period. A feast for the senses. Visually, aromatically, & tastefully decadent! A beautiful romantic setting, wonderful service, superior food.... all wrapped up in a place that most people, even native Portlanders, don't even know about! Get the word out Yeeps! This place is top notch!!

This grand house is a must to visit every year...in any season. Great view - and a marvelous place for a classy, peaceful, excellent breakfast. Linens on the table, this place will make you want to take your time. Lovely creme for aromatic Coffee, with fruit and veggies elegantly served with your breakfast. Nestled in the forest above River Road, this is a superb place to take your mom or best friend for a Birthday. For dinner, events, there is a grand Piano. Would be nice for a small group event, such as an Anniversary - especially if you forgot to find a gift! Mom's night out, or an Engagement Dinner with family. Treat a friend who just survived Chemo or surgery...to get em back out there. (a little secret - use a discount coupon from The Entertainment Book - no one need know) For detail people...this is not German. Think Swiss alps, and keep going for that touch of big city sophistication mingled with quality earthinesss. This is Austrian. Come experience the difference. (i'll upload photos sometime soon - or come take your own! Take a right Just off River Road, south of Portland via Mclaughlin)

Yum! A good friend recommended the place, and I am so glad she did! My husband took me here as a late Valentin's Day date since he is a chef and had to work. The dining room was beatifully dressed with white tableclothes, nice old fashioned china and large vases of red tulips. The owner, Christine, is very nice and sat us right in front of the giant fireplace and told us about the specials of the evening and guided us through the menu. She promptly brought us out some bread and our bottle of champagne. A few minutes later we were presented with our appetizers, a luscious mushroom soup and the chicken pate plate. I must say the chicken pate was so buttery and artfully presented that I could have eaten it all night long. Seeing as they specialize in Austrian cuisine, we had to have the schnitzel and the sausage sampler platter with two kinds ouf saurkraut. Both were devine. We had a very nice palate cleanser sorbet, pineapple mint and then were comped a slice of the chocolate torte. Our meal came to over a hundred dollars but we had eaten so well and so much and had some to bring home, I wouldn't think twice about going again. My only wish is that it wasn't so far from my house. But then again, that will probably save me money. ;)

What a gorgeous place for dinner! This is a 1921 home originally built for a large family that is now entirely a restaurant. While we weren't able to enjoy any views since it was dark outside, the inside was beautifully decorated and created an intimate place. The food is wonderfully prepared with a variety of choices. I would highly recommend it as a place for special nights or to take business associates. We went for a Valentine's Day dinner, a few days after the actual holiday and really enjoyed having the place to ourselves.

Let me start by saying that I have only eaten here once. The price tag is a little intimidating, as I have college loans to finish paying. That being said, when I have the money, this is where I would spend it. I was in the fine dining industry in Connecticut for 10 years, and I seldom ran into restaurants that combined fine dining and that warm feeling that you're eating at someone's home. I wish i remembered everything well enough to go into great detail, but here is a brief summary: Champagne (Pol Roger) along with Escargots to start, both of which I highly recommend. My girlfriend had Duck a l Orange, and I had Bouillabaisse. These were accompanied by a wine selection that made me wish my last name was Gates. Both meals were served in a classical style, the Bouillabausse being served in a tureen beside the diner. The duck was simply amazing, with a delicate but spicy flair, the kind of sauce that I wish i could mimic. The dessert wine, a Gewutztraminer I believe, finished things off wonderfully, along with whatever amazing dessert they did that night (I'm sure my girlfriend would recall the name). I really wish I could give you more details, but it was quite a while ago. Needless to say, it was good enough for me to long for my return. You can be sure that I'll freshen up this review when I do so.

Had dinner tonight and had to wait and wait and wait. OK, the food was average to good, but the service was good when it came infrequently ... but come on, spend a few bucks and get someone to help you. We got there early, 5pm on a Friday night so we could miss the rush hour. A few couples and a table for four came in about 6pm. Thank God we got our dinner by 6pm because we never saw her again. The owner with the heavy accent was trying to take care of all the tables. With these prices you should have better service. I usually let an average meal go by and not write in yelp but I want this place to be better so spend a few bucks and get some help ... I said that already didn't I. We paid up and left but was actually looking forward to dessert and to relax but when we were ignored we decided that was enough. I really do feel that writing this stuff will help the owner and I hope she takes heart and plans on hiring someone else on Friday nights if anything.

I am so glad I checked this place out! My 10 year old daughter and I got dressed up on a Saturday night and drove up the narrow driveway to the small parking lot outside the Manor. My first thought walking into the restaurant was how awesome the tacky decor is! A bunch of randomness; old books in shelves, mirrors everywhere, old costume wear scattered on surfaces, chandeliers galore! We were greeted and seated immediately at a table for two with tablecloth and candle. The ladies hosting and serving us were very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The view of the Willamette River with gorgeous. My daughter ordered the Seafood Medley and I the Austrian Sampler. We both very much enjoyed our dinners. I had a cup of coffee to finish the meal and it was served with fresh whipped cream "in the style of Vienna". One of my favorite things about the visit was that everything was served on mismatching plates! So odd and cool! We did use a coupon but still spent over $50 (including tip). A little pricey for my blood but a neat experience. After our delicious meal, we wandered around thee upstairs of the Manor. More mirrors and tacky decor! So awesome and, gotta say, a little creepy. We had a great dinner and found the place to be so interesting, we will be back. The place is hard to find but we're glad we did.

I am only giving this place one star because there isn't an option for zero stars. I have lived in Milwaukie all of my life and decided to give it a try after 30 years of driving past it. I should have kept driving. This is hands down the WORST place I have ever been. I knew we were in for an adventure the minute we were seated. I looked to my right and saw broken glass all over the old, worn out carpet. 'Flowers' were at each table that looked like they had been there for a month in cloudy, merky water. There was a distinct 'old book' odor that crept in my nose and stayed there (for days). When we got our water, finally, there was lipstick all over the glass. There was no drink menu so we had to go with what the waiter recommended which I am pretty sure was the most expensive wine they had to offer. The owner/waitress could be heard yelling obscenities at her kitchen staff and was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. Next...the food. By this time (at least 45 minutes after being seated) we were so far past disappointed that we were now laughing. My husband and I were so disappointed with our food we couldn't finish it, despite the hefty price tag. The shrimp that came with my mystery meal was clearly frozen and I know this due to the strong freezer burnt flavor. AWFUL. I could keep going, but this is already the longest review ever. Bottom line - we will never be back, ever. But on the bright side - we laugh and reminisce about that night every time we drive by!

Had a wonderful meal, great ambiance, nice personal touch that our server just happened to be the actual owner, who was absolutely lovely. Meals were excelent and great wine pairing suggestions ... big plus for the great scented fresh flowers.

The location and possibilities of charm saddens me. With the wheelchair access being somewhat of a joke, we were seated downstairs in an area not used often complete with a musty smell and cob webs, it felt like a funeral home. The service, if you would call it that, was so slow we nearly left. The food was not bad, although a little on the not so warm side because of the hike to our location. It has the perfect combination for failure, under staffed and over priced. What saves it from a one star rating is what this place could be if managed correctly.

This might possibly be the worst dining experience I've had in Portland! We went here for my mothers birthday with a party of 7. And chose this place because it used to be a family favorite and they do have a nice ambiance. Old world decor and great views might be the only thing this restaurant has going for it! Here are the reasons we will not return. - Despite having a reservation it took us a good 10 minutes to be seated. Nearly every couple of minutes, they would come back and ask how many people our reservation was for. The owner did this for every party waiting several times and was downright rude to a couple that didn't have a reservation. - Once seated we were given 2 menus for our table of 7 and it took 40 minutes for them take our order. Given how long it took we skipped appetizers and salads as we already had a feeling it was going to a long night! Had it not been a special occasion we probably would have walked out. - 40 minutes after we ordered they brought out a palate cleansing sorbet. It seemed to be and overwhelming combination of mint, pineapple and coconut. - Our table was missing some silverware, the replacements we requested, never came. - 35 minutes after the sorbet our dinners arrived. Well 6 of 7 did. Worst they didn't even know why was missing. - The last dinner was dropped after everyone has finished their plates! - To add insult to injury not only were we charged for the incredibly late forgotten plate but they also automatically added gratuity. - While we appreciated the comped dessert they provided for my moms birthday, at a certain point we just wanted to leave. - And finally when we divided the bill with written instructions on what card was to be charged which amount, they even mixed that up. As the service was so bad from beginning to end we didn't even trust them to fix it and left. As for the food. It was okay. The gulosh was tasty and the schnitzel was fairly good. The beef stroganoff was downright awful. We could have all had better good at Gustavs for half the price! Going to have to agree with the Valentine's Day review. At a certain point the food was so bad it was comical!

Where in the world did this place come from? Did someone snatch this little stone mini-castle off of a hill in Germany and drop it on a hill in Milwaukie? I had no idea this place even existed! Amadeus Manor is a stone building sitting on a hill overlooking the Willamette River in Milwaukie. Hidden amongst the trees, the building looks straight European from the outside... and the inside as well. A large classic wooden door opens into a small entryway that hosts a grand piano, stairs going to the upper dining area, stairs to the basement, and to the right, a large room filled with tables, a fireplace and a nook with a large picture window overlooking the Willamette. It's really a stunning view. We showed up in a large group (15+) and had made reservations for Sunday brunch. The one server on duty (who had the whole room) was very personable, fun, and efficient as hell (you know those Germans - models of efficiency). We were seated and immediately offered champagne and OJ. While the size of our group naturally slowed every involved process, she did a great job of making sure that we at least had booze in us while we were waiting to place orders, etc. The menu for Sunday brunch is somewhat limited and VERY Euro. Eggs Benedict, an omelet of the day, a quiche of the day (more like a terrine) a catch of the day, chicken cordon bleu, a meat plate, gravlax Benedict, french toast, and the like. Nothing healthy at all. The prices ranged from $11 to $20 (for the assorted grilled meat plate). The mimosas were $5. The meal also automatically comes with corn muffins and a sorbet (today's was pineapple vanilla mint). The omelet I had was downright delicious. Black forest ham and cheese cooked perfectly with a dollop of an incredibly flavorful hollandaise sauce on top, a steamed broccoli floret with a dusting of parmesan, salt-boiled potatoes (my new favorite type of potato) and some fruit. It was a large plate of food not including the muffin and sorbet. I destroyed this well-presented (and surprisingly perfectly cooked - especially with one chef getting 15 plates out at once) meal thoroughly. The server did a great job of splitting the check 15 ways, and was able to get us settled out in not much time (again, considering the size of the party). Everything she did was with a smile and a bit of a fun banter/spark of entertaining sass. Overall, the quality of the food, the setting, and the fun service combines to make a five-star experience in my book. Were it not for the combination, the lack of anything even remotely healthy on the menu and the odd location down in Milwaukie would probably drop it to 4 stars for me, but if you're looking for a classic, hearty Euro brunch in a setting perfect for your grandparents, this is the place. Good stuff.

Gordon Ramsey, please pick this restaurant! Picturesque setting overlooking the Willamette River and we just happened to get seated at a window with a great view of the Christmas ships passing by. Service is spotty - the owner who was waiting our table forgot about our appetizers and just brought the entrees. The food is mediocre particularly for the price. The mushroom soup that other reviewers complimented tasted like it was made with a bouillon cube. I ordered a filet special that was acceptable but not great accompanied by bland vegetables and mashed potatoes with an olive stuck in the middle. Highlights were the delicious delicately flavored sorbet served at the beginning and free dessert given to us to make up for the missing appetizers. It tasted like a cross between chocolate cheesecake and mousse with a delightful raspberry and something else sauce. Positives are the huge fireplace, white tablecloths and flower arrangements and the fact that this is a restaurant where you can have a conversation without being overwhelmed by "background" music or noise. If someone could modernize the menu and the business plan this could be a great restaurant. Giving 20% discount coupons to everyone is a sign of a failing business.

This restaurant seems to have some hit or miss reviews. I have only been there once, but I thought it was good. My fiance and I went for his Birthday, I had bought a Groupon. First, the service was not "amazing." But it was alright. Secondly, if you want a view of the beautiful river then make a reservation. The food was not cheap, but I thought it was really good. Also, I liked the "friendly, homey" atmosphere. It is a very neat concept for a restaurant. We did order a few cocktails that we were not super impressed with, although they were strong, we felt the combination of flavors was off. All in all for the Groupon Price ($50) for 2 people I enjoyed myself. It was something different, and we enjoyed the change of pace. People are probably right in saying you could get more for your money elsewhere, but I would still recommend you give it a try. The Hungarian Goulash was amazing!

I've been here twice and both times the service was a real mixed bag. The staff was either being abused by the owner for something or the owner was acting out some frustrations. I came in the last time for a "Sunset Special". It was advertised on the Internet as a highly discounted meal if ordered before 6 pm. We arrived and ordered before 5:30 and made a point of informing the staff of the Sunset Special. The manager or owner refused to honor the discount and was taking it out on the staff when I calmly insisted on the discount. They came back with a 20% discount. I stood my ground and after 20 minutes the bill was changed to reflect the Internet special. This happened well before smartphones could be used to bring up a website to hold up as evidence. My wife says we ought to never return and I have to agree. The place has a little drama seldom found in the food industry.

Valentines Day... so awful that it was good comedy. Dropped plates, staff walking around bewildered. Total chaos. We loved the entertainment. When a new table was set everyone in the room broke into giggles - more victims. It's the Winchester Mystery house w food. People walked out. Can't blame them. I liked the entertainment but daaaaaaaamn. Blown opportunity.

Friday night 7 pm reservation for two. We stood in the foyer for several minutes then we were seated. They brought bread, but my spouse had no napkin. No eye contact, no service for 20 minutes. Then they forgot to bring my salad, even with being served by the owner. The entrees were less than expected-- a disappointment overall. The pianist was 80+ years old. We enjoyed her tunes

My experiences with Amadeus Manor have been wonderful. I have been 3 times in the past 6 months, so I will touch on each visit since they were all so different. My first visit was for a wedding in August. The entire venue was reserved for it. I and my associate were hired as officiant and photographer. The ceremony was held in the main dining room with row seating facing the huge panoramic window. The entire building and grounds had endless photo opportunities with unique decor, architecture, flora, fauna, staircases, balconies, etc. The staff quicky transitioned the room to dinner reception while guests enjoyed cocktail hour on the huge balcony, library room and pub room. The staff (even though it was limited) was on top of everything yet never in the way. Highly recommend this place for weddings. NO VENUE FEE just per person food charge which is what it would normally cost a person for dinner! Second visit was a Happy Hour visit with my sister. She LOVED the European feel, chatting with the owner, accepting recommendations for food and the beautiful mis matched china. We had the most amazing baked brie served with fruit drizzled in the best dressing ever, fresh baked loaf of bread, a bottle of good champagne and a bavarian chocolate dessert with home-made topping that I wanted to bathe in! Third visit was a meeting I held for my NW Wed Pro networking association. We reserved the main dining floor so dinner guests were seated in the quaint little dining rooms on the 3rd floor. We had a dedicated bar server, a wonderful appetizer spread and a great meeting. I was happy with everything at all three events and have fallen in love with this place. I have read through all of the reviews and they are all either Awesome or Terrible. So here are my thoughts. This isn't a corporate owned franchise high end restaurant where you expect and demand a certain type of food, service, management, etc. This is an eclectic experience. You need to go in with an open mind, no agenda and no rush. People who are able to do that really do enjoy life more. They enjoy movies more, they feel better about life, they live longer, they see the good rather than dwell on the negative. Ok, enough guru talk. All I'm saying is, Yes, they could use more staff but they really can handle it on their own if you have a little more patience. Maybe people should learn to actually have a conversation with each other while dining or waiting. Time flies when you are engrossed in conversation. It only drags when it's ackward. I like that you never feel rushed to leave. OK, I'm done. I do think everyone should try it at least once. MAKE A RESERVATION, take in the ambience, the fragrance of flowers, the majestic view and the unbounded energy of a single woman owner who does just about everything there. Enjoy.

The architecture is absolutely beautiful. The location, with river views, is nice,,,but the food is simply mediocre. The goat cheese appetizer was something I could have done at home (two slices of goat cheese and slices of tomatoes on a bed of lettuce). The schnitzel was ok. I was not impressed with the food quality at all. For the price, I expect a lot more than something I can easily make in my own kitchen.

This place is a must visit event. And by event, I mean, a long, leisurely meal that comes out in courses. The views of the Willamette River are spectacular, the food is very good and the service is interesting. They have one woman (on Thanksgiving) servicing an entire room full of tables. It was leisurely to say the least. I want to return for a meal not during a holiday and see how the service is. Overall, excellent food, wine, and ambience is romantic, lovely with fresh flowers on each table. Great for a romantic date, just be prepared to take your time and not be rushed.

It was May, 1998. Our daughter was three weeks old, and Wife N. and I decided it was time to get out of the house for a few hours for the first time as parents. A close family friend took over kid watching duties for the evening, and we headed down to this restaurant we'd just discovered in Lake Oswego called Amadeus. The meal was excellent, memorable--I mean, truly. Fifteen years hence, and I still remember the Steak au Poivre Madagascar that launched my desire into learning how to cook at home. Today, I'm a reasonably accomplished home chef with a whole lot of inventive stuff under my belt. Sadly, the Lake Oswego location closed down a while back, leaving the Milwaukie location as the last remaining site. A Groupon popped up a week ago: a decent discount for Amadeus Manor. We had gone to the Milwaukie location before, but it had been many years. Could the food be every bit as good as before? Friday night, 7:30. We arrived just as the peak of the dinner hour tapered off. Christiane herself was hosting and serving, and guided us to our lovely table in front of the large gas fireplace. A beautiful bouquet of fragrant lilies greeted us at the table, and a fresh tapered candle was lit. The menu was reminiscent of the one we'd remembered with many of the same items and a few new ones. For appetizers, we started with the Brie Encroute, a wonderful strip of brie cheese, encrusted in phyllo dough on a bed of greens with a lovely Madeira dressing and fruit slices. It was exactly as we'd remembered it, wonderful. Her Mushroom Soup was wonderfully complex, with fresh seasonal mushrooms in it. Even mushroom-hating Wife N. found it to be an excellent bowl of soup. Between courses, we were brought their classic sorbet, in a frozen glass which was nestled atop some of the fall leaves, a lovely seasonal touch. The shaved sorbet was exactly as we'd remembered, the exact (or even general) recipe being somewhat of a guarded secret. When she came to collect the glasses, I asked "pineapple, mint, and a hint of lemon?" The reply, with a little wink and a lovely Austrian accent was, "Oh, perhaps, perhaps not." The specials of the night were a bacon-wrapped filet mignon, garnished with fresh crab and topped with a gorgonzola cream sauce. I ordered the salmon special, a filet of Chinook with lobster sauce. Wife N. ordered her filet rare (which at 90% of restaurants is over-cooked to medium rare). Here, it arrived a perfect rare. It was flawlessly seared, and the crab was sweet and tender. The sauce was creamy and bold. An excellent combination. My salmon was perfectly cooked. An inch thick, and yet it was evenly flaky and juicy. The lobster sauce was just begging to be licked straight off the plate. Both plates were served with lovely mashed potatoes and steamed veggies, and the whole meal was just fantastic. For dessert, we opted for her caramel custard. Her caramel sauce was darker than I was used to, with almost a dark smoky flavor to it. It complemented the expertly cooked custard perfectly. The chef has been with Amadeus for over 20 years, and is the same one from the Lake Oswego location. The food here is "traditional upscale". This is not the place to go if you want that cutting-edge food nouveau. This is classical Austrian-style food and an upscale experience. The typical plates are in the $20-30 range, with nightly specials hitting $40. The food service is at a relaxing, methodical pace. This is NOT the place to dine if you need to hit a show in an hour. This is the place to hit if you want a relaxed, romantic evening and an steady, even flow through the courses. The food is absolutely outstanding in every respect. As someone who now enjoys home cooking and savoring all the nuances and subtleties in every bite, the flavors here were complex, expertly devised and well paired. Our fifteen-year-old memories of Amadeus were perfectly rekindled. The food was every bit as fantastic as we remembered it.

We arrived on time for our Sunday dinner reservation, and ended up waiting for a table with a view. Not their fault, ours. We were entranced by the view of the Willamette River below and wanted a special table. Very romantic and we watched as the sun set and the lights started to twinkle. This greystone, gracious lady must have been a real belle in her day. She is still is charming, but now needs some TLC. I suspect the economy is making it difficult to keep her doors open, but she is a jewel. I loved the chandelier in the ladies restroom, for one. The tables were each dressed with white linen tablecloths and a large bouquet of lilies in crystal vases. Then, there was the lovely music, Mozart, of course. We started with probably the most amazing mushroom soup ever. And I've had some really wonderful ones. Then came the palate cleanser. "Everysing ees top secret!", she replied when asked about the sorbet (I think pineapple mint). Then she gave me a secretive smile. I dared not to ask any more questions. Just made compliments. Next, beef stroganoff for both of us. The gravy with fresh mushrooms and cooked red bell pepper, was very (black) peppery but a wonderful flavor and the meat incredibly tender. Topped with candied carrots, and raw red bell pepper, green onion, fresh tomato. Very colorful and finished with a dollop of sour cream. Delightful. They had a small but interesting wine list. Mr. B ordered a glass of a German white wine that he really loved but couldn't remember what it was. Dessert was an Austrian bread pudding. All in all, the food was wonderful. Even with a Restaurant.com voucher, our bill went over $100. Lovely experience, but it came with some caveats: Cloudy glassware with lipstick marks. Obviously, some attention to quality is needed there. Also, very slow service. The waitress/hostess (i.e. same person) was dressed poorly for the ambiance she was trying to create, and looked frazzled. But still, she came across as friendly and welcoming. Parking up close could be a nightmare in the dark, there is a steep, narrow, unlighted driveway with accommodations for about 6 cars at the top. And as for the handicapped, probably not a good idea for wheelchairs no thanks to the steep, uneven paved ramp up to the entry. There are also no restroom facilities on the 1st floor. Now, I am going to get on my soapbox about the impatient guests. In one word...Reservations. If you don't make them, you can't expect a fine dining restaurant to overstaff just because you are too lazy to call ahead. It affects everyone. This was part of the problem that night, and several customers got up and left angry. She had 4 reservations, but 9 tables while we were there. Now. Don't let any of my negatives keep you away! You should enjoy this place and appreciate it for what it is. Dump the snobbery, or don't go.

This restaurant is like no other, with the location right on the river, the old mysterious building, and the charm of the Austrian owner who handles everything personally. We have been here Four times, and we won't be back: 1. Our first experience here was the most romantic dinner we had ever experienced, but it was on a weeknight evening, and there was only one other couple. It was lovely; the food was fantastic, the ambiance relaxed and romantic- we sat in a nook with the walls covered in books. Amadeus had become a 5-star restaurant in our minds. 2. Last year on Vanentine's day, we got a reservation for 8:30. We figured it would be busy, so we showed a bit early. We were met with wait staff literally RUNNING back and forth, several couples waiting at the door, and others leaving angry.. My Love and I took it all in stride, and we were invited to wait downstairs in the dungeon-like bar for our table. The bartender had just quit on the spot. We waited there with other couples, and the head waiter came down and began pouring free hard liquor for everyone. Hey we were cheery and didn't mind at all HAHA! To end this story, we sat with another couple for the romantic holiday, and we paid a good $100 for our meal, which was pretty good. 3. We took another couple to Amadeus with us on a week night. The food was passable but not amazing. The waitress kept drawing attention to her teeth, which she was having some problem with, so she talked while covering her mouth with her hand (gross). The service was mediocre at best; our water glasses stayed empty most of the night and there were only a few other people there... We felt like they kept forgetting about us. Third time was NOT a charm. WHAT SPARKED THIS REVIEW: 4. After last year's Valentine's day fiasco, we decided to go to Amadeus one day before the holiday festivities.. We arrived to the waitress from last time (same one with the tooth problem- let's call her Sally for this review) literally running past us. OHHH this didn't bode well. Another woman came out of the kitchen with a glass and a coke can and sat at the long table set for maybe 20. The owner blazed by and tried to smile and say hello but she was by us before she could offer a true hello. After a while, another woman who I thought was a diner, came and asked us with an Austrian accent if we had a reservation, and when that was. Oh she must be related to the owner. She looked in the main dining room and decided that wasn't a good idea, then lead us upstairs. There were a few tables seated but no one was eating. Our hostess looked at the table she was steering us toward, but it was still unmade. She had us sit at a table for 4 "until she could clear the table for us." She asked if we wanted wine, and no, we just wanted water to start. She pulled water off of the table next to us and poured our glasses and hurried off. Sally dashed by with bread for one of the tables yonder... We opened our menus, which turned out to be wine lists, and sat there for around 10 minutes, drinking our water and listening to the hectic stomping of the wait staff. There was no music. Our hostess came back and deposited us at the table in the corner that she had first attempted, and we were nearly run over by Sally, who had hit mach speed coming up the stairs. We waited a few more minutes of this before we left and enjoyed a cheap and wonderful Mexican dinner at La Carretta down the road, where it was busy but the ambiance was relaxed, and full of pink and red hearts hanging from the ceiling, which made it way more romantic than the hectic, overblown ambiance of Amadeus Manor. We were willing to drop around $100 for dinner last night. When couples go out for a fancy, expensive dinner, they are paying for wonderful food, competent service, and a lovely, romantic environment in which to enjoy each other. That is not what Amadeus Manor has offered the past three times we were there. They need to 1. Train their staff to run in the kitchen, and no matter how hectic life is for them, to act as if they have all the time in the world when they are serving customers. I recommend you hire someone like Paul Paz (President of the National Waitor's Association) to perform this training. 2. Staff your restaurant appropriately. This would mean the expense of more wait staff, yes, but people are paying $100 - $200 per meal- I think you can afford that. Perhaps hire a manager to take care of this. I am saddened by how this turned out because it has all the potential to be a centerpiece of the foody city that Portland is.

I have been driving past this little place for year and have always wanted to eat here. My sister is staying with us during the holidays and forced my husband and I to go on a much deserved date night away from our four children. I had a restaurant.com coupon to this restaurant so finally decided to go. When we walked in the door there was no one at the reception area to great us nor a sign that said please wait to be seated. We weren't even sure we'd come in the front entrance. We stood there for a few minutes and heard screaming coming from the kitchen. It was in another language, so I'm not sure what that was about. Finally after about four minutes someone came out of the kitchen and sat us. Where we sat we could see a large window overlooking the river. Unfortunately we were there at night so we didn't see much of the view other than a few lights reflecting off the water. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and was quiet; definitely a romantic atmosphere. We waited a looooong time before our server came to greet us. In fact, we hadn't seen any employee since we'd been seated for about 20 minutes, and were just about to leave to go somewhere else when someone finally came to tell us the specials and bring us some water and homemade bread (YUM!). We ordered the New York Strip Steak and Chicken Cordon Blue. Dinner was very good. But we were soon soured of this place when we began the payment process. We had our coupon that was for $25 off two entrees. Both of our meals were around $30 so this would almost make one free. We included our credit card and coupon on the check. Once it was picked up we waited for at least another 10 minutes. The owner came - not our waitress - and said we could not use the coupon because we didn't order two drinks. There was fine print that said we needed to order two drinks. She then offered to charge us for their two least expensive drinks at $4 each so that we could use the coupon. Seriously! How about offer desert instead or bring us the two drinks! She left and another 10 minutes went by before our waitress brought our card back with the receipt billed for nearly the full amount. We looked around for either the waitress or owner to clear up the matter but both had disappeared again into the kitchen. After waiting another 10 minutes we decided to pay the amount on the check. We corrected their horrible math with some notes on the receipt, working in the meals, pretend beverages, coupon and tip into the total shown on the receipt. We will never be returning here.

I came here with my husband because we had certificate from Restaurant.com . It is really out there, far-far away but it was easy to find, following Google Maps. PARKING: There was a small parking lot and then narrow steep path up to the manor. Since the parking lot was empty, we looked around and realized that the narrow path was actually the driveway. We drove up and found several parking spots next to the restaurant. It was more convenient since it was raining heavily but as we were leaving, it was quite scary to back out of the spot and turn around in such a small space at the edge of a steep cliff. So watch out and be careful. THE RESTAURANT: Just like expected, this place had an old fashioned elegance to it. The dishes, silverware and glassware were old fashioned as well. Walls are lined with books and there are two huge windows outlined with a giant picture frame - nice touch. Restrooms are upstairs so on your way make sure to look around and notice various antiques on display. All-in-all, this was too shabby for my taste, felt like dining in a dusty museum. But some may love it. So, you decide for yourself. My favorite part was the music, which was, of course, Mozart. FOOD: It is a classic Austrian cuisine. If you can not cook and like good comfort food, this is a wonderful place. However, I do not like to go to restaurants to pay for food that I can easily make at home. Unless it's a quick takeout. Hope this is helpful.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. I was there with a large group for brunch. The menu had a few selections and me being a picky-ish eater I decided the best choice for me was the French Toast. Oh man was I wrong as the austrian woman lectured me about how it pretty much was the worst thing on the menu to order and proceeded to tell me how wonderful the Eggs Benedict were. So, trying to have good manners and not argue (too much) and not make an issue in front of our guests I ordered the Eggs Benedict. Everyone really enjoyed the Eggs Benedict but me. I enjoyed the ham, muffin and hollandaise sauce but the eggs made me sick to my stomach as I can't stand eggs cooked over easy. *Sigh* all because I was trying to be polite and not be yelled at by my waitress. I will not come back ever because I do not think that the waitress should dictate what I should or should not eat. I also don't think it is their position to make me feel bad or guilty about the selection I do want to order. I mean, I am paying for it myself right? Yeah. So I have to say a big no go for me.

My mother took me here to help me celebrate my 21st. It's a gorgeous property. Although it was some of the worst service I have ever had. We were seated and our waiter never appeared. 45 minutes later, we asked to see our waiter. It took around 2 hours from the time we were seated to get our food. We had to ask a waiter for a menu after 45 minutes of sitting. The kids for an event downstairs were extremely loud and rude. The wait staff was more involved with serving the party than dealing with their reservations. It was also extremely expensive and I'm pretty sure that the valet guy was drunk as he almost crashed a Buick into the side of the hill.

Kitchen Nightmares needs to come here. My boyfriend used the restroom and he said there was a "plumber" fixing up the ladies restroom and he was asking Siri "How to fix the toilet." And thus begins our evening. We walked in and there's a huge grand piano at the foyer. Nice, relaxing music. No hostess. A pile of menus were strewn on a table and we looked at one while waiting to be seated. Finally, a woman comes out and seats us. We got to sit outside and look over the beautiful Willamette River. The scene and environment of the entire restaurant was very relaxing and romantic. This is a place where you can have a nice dinner conversation without having to yell at the top of your lungs. The service, however, made me quite anxious and embarrassed for these ladies who obviously take a lot of pride in running this place by themselves. But I think it's time to get some extra help. After being seated and told about the wine menu (there are no hard copies of the wine, so listen closely), we ordered our drinks. My boyfriend got the pinot gris and I got a coconut mango drink (see my pic). We waited... Then another lady comes out and asks us if we've heard the wine list yet. Yes we have, and we are ready to order now. She listened to our orders (take note, she did not write down on a pad what our orders were). Then we ate bread, which was deliciously warm and soft. We waited...then my boyfriend's cream of mushroom soup came out. He was half way done when my escargot came out. The escargot was so oily and buttery, I couldn't finish it and my bf had to finish it for me. Our drinks still have not come out yet. Then after being nearly done with appetizers, we finally got our drinks. Mine was pretty good and quite refreshing for a warm June evening. Then our second server came back and asked if we had ordered our entrees. Um... WHAT?! Yes we have. So we had to repeat our orders and she explained to us that she didn't write it down on a pad. I don't get it. How can you get our appetizers and drink orders right, but not our entrees? I am completely baffled by this rare occurrence! While we waited, we were served some kind of mango sorbet (see my pic). It was good and refreshing as well. But I tasted a hint of apology for the messed up order. Finally, we got our main dishes. My bf had the schnitzel, and he really enjoyed it. I had the beef stroganoff, and it was a different story (see pics of our entrees). It was served on this antique china bowl. The beef was so far from tender, thus I needed to cut it, but that was virtually impossible with the bowl my food was served in. I had to use my bf's plate to cut them into small pieces. I spent my time chewing it and my jaw muscles became sore. So I just ended up eating all the noodles. The cream was good, but by this time, I swallowed my food without chewing or tasting because my jaw was so sore. Dinner got done, and we asked for the check. I mentioned that we had a Groupon. We waited and waited and waited some more. Can you tell that tonight's theme was waiting around? I have read the other reviews on Yelp, and it seems like waiting for our checks after telling them we had Groupons was also a common theme. I got fed up and came inside and asked for the check. As we were paying for the remaining amount of the bill, someone familiar to the server came in and she immediately became preoccupied with them and immediately said goodbye to us in what I thought was not a very pleasant tone of voice. Oh and we got a $20 off coupon for our next visit. My bf really enjoyed his meal because he didn't mind the waiting around. But I, on the other hand, hated getting my meal out of order, being served the same course at different times, a waitress who forgets her orders, and being kept waiting for basically my entire meal.

This restaurant is like a hidden jem in the city. The antique-style restaurant is beautifully adorned with a fountain, a view overlooking the Willamette river, fresh grown flowers and plants galore. There is a very comfortable feel here as the staff treats you just like family. We had our wedding here this summer and it was a pleasant success. The owner Kristina is so friendly, she even brought us coffee and tea early in the morning as we were setting up. The food was fabulous, especially the house salad and tilapia. The venue was just darling with the sun coming in through the trees when we had the ceremony outside. During the reception, the staff was on point and it was a smooth transition. Furthermore, we had a blast downstairs at the bar and danced the night away. Beyond that, when we visited the venue to plan our wedding, we were able to taste all of every plate so that we can pick our menu and they were more than open to any suggestions we had. This is a great place and a nice change of sceneries when you want a quaint dinner for two.

There is a no star button so one will have to do. Words are useless to say on this review but I feel the need to write this. I see a lot of review saying mediocre..... They were feeling very generous. In a foodie town like this I'm surprised the place hasn't gone down under. The what little charming decor came to a screeching halt when the appetizers were presented. We had the gravlax, the mushroom soup, the escargot, the brie, and the shrimp. The plate was confusing and what little life that was left in any ingredients were masked by fruits on every plate. The brie wrapped in Phyllo dough was greasy to the point where any activist would start protesting. The escargot was not properly cleaned at all. The soup had an interesting taste where it was almost edible. The prawns were surprisingly good after you wipe away the store bought lobster sauce that it was masked in. Did I mention 3 slices of fruit on almost every plate. The gravlax to me felt like it was store bought smoked salmon. We did not find any pickled beets or onions but instead found...... You guessed it 3 slices of fruit, over boiled egg with a nice Grey ring around the yolk, 2 sad pieces of grey sad looking dry pieces of "gravlax". And it took us over 30mins to get water. Avoid this place like the plague and if this was the last restaurant on earth I would rather starve and die happy. Everything was over priced and the best part was they had little to no choice of entrée on a Wednesday night. What kind of restaurant runs out of ingredients on a Wednesday.!!!!

I went for Mothers Day brunch and had a 9am reservation. We stood at the entry way for 10 min and not a single person greeted us. The lady in charge was so unprofessional and barking orders at her staff right in front of us about the tables not being set up. It's now 9:05 and more staff is just arriving for their shift. Still not a single person has greeted us and even the staff is showing up late for a really busy day. Others had been seated before us and didn't even have reservations. The lady in charge clearly saw us but was so overwhelmed and stressed she couldn't put a smile on her face to say hello. After 10 minutes we just walked out. The valet lady heard us complaining as we left and apologized for what happened. So unprofessional and rude service.

Excellent Ambiance. Took Mom there for Christmas Dinner and got the royal treatment. Food was excellent as was the service. They offered a five course special Christmas dinner and it was very good if you like German/Austrian food as we do. We will return to check out their regular menu.

To be honest, we will probably go back again....just NEVER AGAIN on a holiday. We decided to make reservations here for Valentines Day...like apparently half of Portland. The valet was the only person we dealt with all night who was honest and seemed to know what he was doing. We were trapped at the front with two other couples waiting by the piano when finally a woman came over and practically shouting at us asked if we had a reservation. She then said they were just a touch behind and asked if we would like to grab a drink downstairs. We went down and were rather disturbed looking at all the people also waiting and drinking. I sat on a couch practically on top of another couple eating their dinner and trying to get their check. After a half hour a woman was scrambling around trying to offer complimentary champagne to us waiting which she gave to two people. My husband was trying to get a bottle of wine but the bartender was acting as a waiter, bus boy and bartender meaning he was unable to tend bar at all. I was honestly getting a bit fearful watching couple after couple leave and more couples coming in...the downstairs was like a train car and smelled really dank and old. I get that it is an old house but we have never been down there - it just looks like a storage pile. Finally a woman came down and said she was seating a few of us so she grabbed us and two other couples. She seated us in a tiny room with one of the couples and another couple who were already there saying that someone would be there shortly. She also told us that they got behind because 15 couples showed up for their reservations late which caused problems and bragged that they accommodated everyone - I hardly call starving your loyal customers "accommodating". Honestly the table we were seated at had stains on it and the water pitcher was almost empty....eww...I wanted to just leave but I tried to be optimistic. I saw that one couple had bread - I was getting hope until they confessed they had been there 2 and a half hours, ordered food an hour prior and actually were just trying to pay for their wine so they could leave because they were starving and could not handle not eating any longer. They said that the restaurant started using Open Table and basically failed to keep track of their online reservations versus their phones in ones. A restaurant that has been in business this long should know better. So we waited another half hour and when no one showed or said a peep to us...well, at that point we followed two more couples straight out the door.

My wife and I had our wedding reception here 19 years ago and come back for our anniversary dinner every year. The manor is absolutely beautiful as is the view. The food is scrumptious. For our most recent dinner my wife had the Austrian Gulasch and was in heaven. I had the Cordon Bleu and loved it. I couldn't have asked for a better meal. While the view and the food are wonderful, I think what brings us back every year is the hospitality. Kristina, the owner makes you feel more like a guest in her house than a customer in a restaurant. I've read some reviews that have complained about the service. I'll admit that we had a longer than expected wait on our last visit, but two employees had called in sick and the place was pretty full so it was completely understandable. Even with how busy they were the owner stopped by our table repeatedly to make sure everything was OK, and gave us a complementary appetizer. I would consider that excellent service!

I don't usually buy Groupons for restaurants but thought this place sounded intriguing. I should've followed my instincts. The entryway impression is not grand, it's rundown. There are 4 tables with a window view and if you're not sitting in one of them the rest of the place is kind of depressing, like grandma's house needed a good cleaning. The piano is a nice touch but the lively show tunes don't exactly complement a 'romantic' evening. Two servers took our orders -one appetizer, then one entree at a time (there were two of us).The food came to the table in the same disjointed manner. The escargot was prepared in an odd oily tomato sauce that sticks to the tongue and leaves an unpleasant taste behind. The mushroom soup was a very small portion and barely warm. The two house salads were vastly different in size from each other and consist of greens and fruit, house dressing. Entrees at the high end of a price range for Portland, and I would've had better food just about anywhere else (small portions of tough beef, the same 'slathered in oil' treatment for the oysters). The sorbet was indeed delicious and certainly helps to clear the palate from the other items consumed. I saw couple after couple ignored, while entrees came out all over the restaurant at different times for different individuals. I've worked in the hospitality industry for 15+ years and have seldom had a more odd and disappointing restaurant experience.

Rustic, romantic, and brimming with character. The food was amazing, probably the best filet mignon I've ever eaten. I had the filet Oscar. We were there for the five -course New Year's Eve dinner. The courses were baked brie (divine!), salad, sorbet, entree, dessert. Service was very slow at first and then we found out why: six staff members had called out sick with the flu! The owner got on the phone and called her friends, put on her serving outfit and apron, and was out waiting and clearing tables. The show went on! We never felt rushed, and soaked in the ambiance for hours enjoying each course and the company. We will be back! If you are in a hurry this is not a good choice. If you have great company and nowhere to be, take the time to enjoy Amadeus. The owner is delightful, and will work very hard to please you. I was with a friend who has some tricky eating restrictions and the owner bent over backwards for her. That alone is worth four stars.

We were invited to attend an anniversary dinner for friends here. We had a choice of either the chicken or pork dish. While the food was fine - I would eat it again, I had flashbacks to nouvelle cuisine there was so little of it on the plate. My chicken dinner had TWO THIN slices over a ton of mashed potatoes with ONE sprig of broccoli. This was a $35 dinner that was to include appetizer, salad, sorbet as a palate cleanser, entree and dessert that was to be a choice. My salad was so small but several of the ones around me were triple the size and I noticed that all the entrees were of varying amounts as well. We never got the appetizers or the sorbet and we didn't get a choice of dessert and that was the tiniest sliver of dessert I've ever seen. I thought it was a sample or something. It was really good but still. Even after all that I was willing to try the restaurant again but what has convinced me that under no circumstance will I return and will tell others not to go is that when my husband went to settle our bill (which for some reason took almost 45 minutes) the total for two $35 dinners and 5 drinks (one of them a bottle beer) between the two of us was $170. Doing that math, that means each drink was $20 and that did not include the tip. I'd have to say, that was the most expensive meal for the little we got and I don't care how good the food was, it wasn't worth that. Oh, and did I mention that dinner was supposed to start at 6:30 and we didn't get our salads until almost 8 p.m.?

I LOVED this place from head to toe! Or shall I say, ground to roof - and the 3 floors of Liberace-like decor in between. We made a 6:15 dinner reservation and were allowed to sit on the patio. The view of the river was phenomenal! I'll be back for happy hour this summer, just to take it in again, and again. We first ordered the Sautéed Prawns. I have not idea what was in the sauce, but it made even the leaf garnish taste like a little bit of heaven. Next we got the Wilted Spinach salad. The balsamic dressing was wonderful! I don't like mushrooms, but my friend coaxed me try them with "How do you know you don't like them if you don't try them?" I'll admit they were tasty, but I can get past how they look. Emeril could flambe them in front of me and they still wouldn't be something I choose to chew and swallow. The bread looked and tasted rich with butter and like it'd just come straight out of the oven. My friend ordered the Chicken Costanza, which made him groan in ecstasy. I got the Pork Leopold. The meat and aujus were fabulous, as were the mashed potatoes but I could have done without the red beets or more mushrooms. I was embarrassed to leave them on my plate uneaten, but not enough to actually eat my veggies. Had the chef asked why I pushed them aside, I would have given him the old standby "It wasn't you, it's me". Between courses we were given sorbet "to cleanse our pallets". It tasted like pineapple with a hint of mint. Yummy! Our server started out being a lovely Austrian woman, but when we asked to move from the upper balcony to the lower, our server switched to the downstairs bartender. Both were very nice and gave wonderful customer service. Now, let's get back to the restaurant. It looks like a beautiful old mansion that's quite possibly is haunted. Our bartender/server swears the place has no otherworldly presence spooking it's halls, but I wouldn't have cared if it had. The formal dining room is adorned with chandeliers and tables with white linen tablecloths. No matter where you sit, you are facing a window (albeit some have better view of the river than others). The entrees run between $18 - $35 but they advertise on restaurants.com , so you can get a $25 gift certificate for as low as $4. That leaves you room to splurge on appetizers, drinks and dessert. I can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can go to have drinks on the lower deck after work!

This review is from last year's Valentine's Day. As a joke, my husband looked up the restaurant online to see if it still was in business. To his shock, it was!! They are offering a similar Valentine's Day special, but if you are in a relationship with someone who you actually care about, DO NOT GO HERE FOR VALENTINE'S DAY (or any other day, for that matter). Last Valentine's Day, my husband made a dinner reservation for this place. I had never been there and when I walked up, I was very impressed by the valet service, the beautiful architecture, and the romantic stings of lights. I was not impressed by the waiters running to and fro when I opened the front door to the resturant or being looked at blankly when I had to walked up to a hostess and give her my name for the reservation. I was stared at for a moment, then ignored. I noticed a few other couples walking a dark flight of stairs at the back of the front entry to the restaurant, and I thought "oh, maybe additional seating? Maybe hubs is down there (turns out he was running late) and I will seat myself." So, I walk down a dark stairwell and into a dank basement bar full of angry looking people. This was like a first date nightmare holding pen. Couples on benches, on all chairs, standing, sitting, leaning. No one at the bar. in the middle of it all, a lone, dirty, unkempt empty table, it's occupants long gone but their plates and used silverware remained. So, optimist that I am, I find a seat on a couch next to a very nicely dressed young couple and open the trusty book I always carry in my purse. 30 minutes later, hubs has joined me, and we are both squeezed onto the couch with the now uncomfortable young couple. About an hour after hubs arrived, a waitress came down to the basement and said "free champagne, for your wait", and we took advantage of the glass she gave us (only one, because they were running out). Then, she set the bottles of champagne on the bar and walked away. Well, looks to me like the bar is now open for business. She left throwing the phrase "free wine" over her shoulder. There were several bottles of wine on the bar, but no bartender. So, the hubs and I moseyed up to the bar, found two clean glasses (there were no wine glasses in the bar area, despite the racks clearly dedicated to them) and ended up drinking white wine out of a scotch glass and a champagne glass. We poured for other patrons, too. 25 minutes later, a server comes down and says "I can take five couples", like this is some sort of negotiation. A few of the couples who were there longest were shoved to the front and the rest of us were left alone again with no explanation. Well, since our reservation was for 7:30pm, and it was 9pm at that point, we decided to leave. We had an excellent meal at the Killer Burger down the street in Sellwood. The moral of the story is this- if you are a guy/girl trying to impress your date with a fancy meal and a romantic setting, this is not the place for you.

If I could rate place this any lower I would. Not very easy to find at the back of an empty lot, with a sign that isn't lit, and is a little ways up a hill. There are only a handful of parking spots, so if this place were ever at full capacity you'd have to park down in the empty lot, so heels would be a bad idea. Barely managing to find a spot to squeeze my car (by the way don't back off the hill, there's no railing), we parked and walked to the first door we saw, which apparently was not where there dining area was, it was up some stairs, though there was no sign to indicate. The door was all the way open when we entered and there we stood for a few minutes before the owner bothered to come bring us to a table. The owner was to be our waitress for the rest of the night. The entire place was cold and flies were buzzing around since no one ever closed the door. There was a couple in sweatshirts and jeans in front of the unlit fireplace, though she was quick to light it soon after we arrived, she may as well not have because we couldn't feel it from where we sat. There were only a total of 5 tables in use the entire night, including ours. The menus were stained, she grabbed an over-sized vase with 1 sad flower and placed it on our table, the candle she lit was almost nonexistent. My boyfriends wine came with a lip print on the side of the glass, not very promising for the cleanliness. We ordered the brie in pastry dough for an appetizer. Apparently it came on top of a salad, something the menu didn't mention (there were a lot of things not listed on the menu). The brie was ok, but definitely nothing special. The owner removed my boyfriends plate, but left mine. She brought our entrees and I had to move my plate out of the way, which she still left behind. I had chicken and my boyfriend had steak. Both tasted like they had sat around all day and were just reheated for us to eat. My chicken was dry, flavorless, and so tough I could barely cut through some of it (frankly I've had better chicken from the prepared food at Fred Meyer). Also there was a creepy record in the corner of the room called The Merry Widow staring at us the whole night. Thinking it couldn't possibly get worse, we thought we'd order dessert. We were wrong. My boyfriends tiramisu tasted like it had freezer burn. My chocolate torte was barely there, it couldn't have been more than a centimeter at it's thickest point. Felt like they had bought desserts from Costco and were giving the smallest pieces so they could make it last all year. Both dessert were topped with huge mounds off Cool Whip and drizzled with Hershey's syrup. They can't bother to make their own desserts, let alone whipped cream or chocolate sauce. We had been given a Google Offers coupon, which is why we came. The place looked nice and we saw all the good reviews and had gotten excited. We could not have been more disappointed. It only got worse when we paid. She came back with the already used card and informed us she had added 18% gratuity!!! Absolutely Nowhere did it say this would happen. Their menu had stated they would add 18% for groups of 5+, but we were only 2 people. The Google Offers paper also did not say anything of the sort. I would never tell anyone to go here. I would rather eat McDonalds, the quality of food was pretty much the same, but atleast you wouldn't spend $100 for just 2 people.

Horrible horrible service by the owner who obviously wants to do it all herself. Literally had to wait for an hour to get our bill after repeated requests. We were there for three hours of waiting waiting waiting. We had my 87 year old mom with us and I literally was woried about her as she was getting exhausted from sitting so long. Groupon users beware. Once she found out we had one when she finally brought our bill it was so jumbled we couldn't read one thing on it but the bottom amount which was over 100.00 dollars. Now we had two separate bills so this was just for my husband and I. We only had two entrees and one cup of soup, one dessert and one glass of champagne which was 4.00 dollars. That did not come close to adding up to 100.00 dollars. She over charged us by 30.00 dollars. She would not come back to our table and I had to hunt her down and she argued with me and finally would only refund me 7.00 on the bill. I was so exhausted and had to get my mom home I just paid my bill and left. I have filed a complaint with groupon. This woman is dishonest. I would not recommend going to this establishment.

What a delightful dinner my wife, daughter, and I had the other evening. I think some of the negative reviews are from folks who must be used to plastic food and smiles from a chain restaurant. Every course we had was excellent and beautifully presented. The wait times between courses were perfect. The sorbet they surprised us with after the appetizer - not sure what it was made with - but was amazing. The service was genuine with the owner intimately involved. If you like a staged home, or chain restaurant , in and out service, you probably won't like it. The price for the quality of food was proper. We had smoked salmon, the mushroom soup, pork loin, and tenderloin - all excellent. The desserts were outstanding too - we had the custard and the Belgian chocolate mousse torte. Having grown up N. Italian the quality was on par. Absolutely no negative comments (I usually provide one).

Update: 2 days after I posted this the Manor gave my friend a call about the wedding gift. It was no longer wrapped but she did finally receive it...little over a month later. Happy about this but I still say one star.

I have been coming here since I was a kid.... I still love this place. We love it soooooo much my mothers last wedding was here. I will get to that in a bit. First off the gardens here are..... stunning, as well as the views. I love the fact that it is eclectic, each place setting is different and great. The food.... good gods it is amazing. The service can be a bit slow... but they run on more of a European design rather than an American "I want it now" kinda of attitude. They are pleasant and always care of the quality of the food. You can tell from the way it is presented to the little touches that they do. The owner is a wonderful woman who has a freakishly good memory and will remember you when you have not been there in a long time. After the appetizers have been consumed they will bring you sorbet to cleanse your palette so you can fully enjoy your next course. You will never feel rushed here. Please take your time, enjoy your dinner and just have fun. the wedding...... my mothers latest wedding happened here. I was impressed that the day of the wedding my mother was treated like....... well...... a queen. People buzzing around getting stuff ready and always helpful. They did not hover or intrude but the moment you needed someone, they came out of the woodwork like magic. The beautiful piano the stair cases the rooms off of rooms were fun to explore... I dont know if I was allowed to... but no one stopped me. It is so busy during the night that you dont get a chance to see all the beauty outside of the main sitting area. They do have other seating in rooms above that are fun and I only know of them because we have eaten in them so I wanted to see more. Their storage for the table clothes and napkins and other linens are stored in antiques dressers are scattered through out the upstairs. The bath is quirky and beautiful. The wedding was held out on the deck and during the ceremony you did not hear nor see any of the staff. Afterwards we were guided into the main area that they had redone the tables for us. The waitstaff were wonderful and never did I once have anything negative to say. They made that day magical and I have nothing but fond memories of the place. I look forward to going there and have been here so many times I can not count. Out of the all the times I have been here I have never seen anything that I can complain about. That is hard to do...

High hopes dashed although Ms. Poppmeier's (owner) engaging Austrian accent and charm did make me feel a bit more welcome than our trek up the "not-to-current-building-code" ramp led me to expect. Judging from the dirty tiny wine glasses and mismatched silverware to the disheveled frustrated accountant tallying receipts at the table near us, I surmised that the restaurant is going through hard times. The exterior needs substantial clean-up and landscape maintenance that could help the building be seen, but that's not why you are looking for a restaurant review....on to the food.... Beef Gulasch and Beef Stroganoff were both tasty and pleasantly presented, however, the Stroganoff lacked sufficient mushrooms and the beef was a tad dry in the Gulasch. The mushroom soup is the best I've ever tasted and is highly recommended. Though neither one needed additional seasoning, I would have liked to have some salt and pepper on the table; perhaps that not the Austrian way. Ignore the wine service here because it is atrocious. What few wines they do have are stored on a dusty wall in full exposure to afternoon sun through an adjacent west facing window. And they charge triple price what can be found at a wine store or grocer. And did I mention dirty wine glasses? Dinner was good but certainly not worth the $90 that was charged. In a foodie town like ours there are many better options that are easier to get to. I suspect this historic place will shut down in a few months, or at least after the wedding season.

Great food with a great view and a great deal with the Yelp coupon (crap, where's my thesaurus...?) for this taste of Europe east of the Willamette. Everything I ordered was delicious and absolutely exquisite: the escargot, the fried oysters, the salad, and even the free sorbet treat. Parking can be a bit of an annoyance. If you're early, you might be lucky and score a spot on top of the hill. Patrons are asked to park perpendicular to the cliff-face to allow for more customers, but space is still very limited. Otherwise, be prepared to take a little hike. Go while the sun is still up and take a tour of the manor, enjoy the view, and get comfy for an amazing dinner! Saving $20 off the bill with Yelp just sweetens the deal further. Ambiance: 5 Service: 4 Food: 5 Value: 4 Bonus: +1 for Yelp special offer TLDR: Food's great along with the view

Enjoy.

Oh! This visit was a few months ago, but I really like this place. I cannot believe I have lived in Portland my entire life and just recently visited this beautiful place. Part of the charm is the service. It's horrible. Truly slow, but always with a long suffering smile and apologetic assurance that our order or drinks were coming right up. Food was surprisingly good given the delay in service, but they do know what they are doing there. Oh, the coffee with the clotted cream was to die for. Yummidy Yummidy Yum! Love it, can't wait to go back.

Good stuff.

I took my mother here for her birthday. I thought it would be special since she used to come here years ago with my father - even when it used to be the Fernwood Inn or something like that. We were about to be disappointed. We made reservations for 6pm on a Saturday evening and showed up on time. When we went inside, there was one couple dining with all the other tables set but empty and there was no host/hostess or even a waitress in sight. We waited by the hostess stand for about 10 minutes (in the meantime, another couple showed up and waited with us). Finally, one of the only two employees we saw the entire night appeared and showed us to a table - right next to the only other couple there! There were three of us and the table had four settings except two of the settings did not have any silverware. We waited for another ten minutes before the same woman showed up again with water and asked for our drink orders. We gave them to her but rushed off while we ordering some hors d'oeuvres. When she came back with our drinks, we had to ask her to stay a moment and take our order for the hors d'oeuvres. We then waited about 30 minutes for the hors d'ouevres to arrive. In the meantime, they sat three more tables (which brought the total serviceable tables to five the entire time we were there). When she dropped them off, we had to ask if we could give her our orders for the main courses before she rushed off again. We then waited about 45 minutes for our meals to arrive. In this last wait, the waitress only cleared some of our dirty dishes. By the time we finished our meal, I noticed that everyone of the tables that were seated after us plus the one before us had finished and left. We then had to wait another 30 minutes before getting our bill. All in all we were there for 2 1/2 hours. The service was simply terrible and they were completely unapologetic. As far as the food goes: I had the Beef Stroganoff ($26.95!) and my mother and my wife had the Chicken Cordon Bleu (also about $26.95). All the meals were tasty and properly cooked but certainly not worth the nearly $30 each. Add in the wine and the hor d'ouevres and the meals came to $50 per plate (before the tip)! For that kind of money, I expect much better service and some pretty special food. Oh, and since we used a Google Offers coupon, they pre-determined the tip at 18%. If it wasn't my mother's 85th birthday, I would have complained loudly, but instead, I remained polite and simply signed the bill. I will never be back to this lousy overpriced restaurant.

I made reservations for 7:30 and was hoping for a pleasant evening to smooth things over with my wife. I read the reviews and thought it would be a good place. We arrived a few minutes early, and the place was packed. The host asked us to wait a few minutes in the bar and have a drink. We went to the bar and I ordered tea for my wife. We waited. After 10 minutes I went back to the bar and the bartender was running food out to other people. I reminded him and he said sure, hot tea. Rinse, repeat. After 30 minutes, I collected my wife and was unable to find anyone to complain to. So we left and had an even worse evening because of it.

Had a few great meals here during high school and college. Sad to see the brunch is gone!! Defiantly my favorite part of Amadeus. I think cutting service on a tuesday would have been better than cutting out their BEST meal on Sunday. Sad, Sad.

So, I'm heading south on McLoughlin Boulevard with a car-ful of Yeeps, muscle memory kicking in, hungry as hell. But wait, why are we passing Acrop? Oh, yeah. It's because we were instead heading to Amadeus Manor for UYE brunch. From the minute you walk in, it's like you've just stepped back in time. Baby grand piano included. The out-of-the-way restaurant, whose name was in reverence to a certain musical genius, had an at once historic and familiar feel. Nearly every table was afforded either a great view of nature's beauty or is within a few feet from the warmth and calming aesthetic of a majestic fireplace. The cozy, old-world interior would be the backdrop to epicurean delight. I have to admit having gone to this brunch with a slight trepidation because I don't usually do brunch. But when the champagne started pouring, there was no turning back. Couple that with a few pre-entree treats like fresh-baked cornbread muffins and a palette-cleansing pineapple/vanilla sorbet, and you know something great was yet to come. And the entrees certainly did not disappoint. My tablemates were ooh-ing and ahh-ing at their French Toasts and Eggs Benedicts and Gravlax. My very own Omelette du Jour-- today's featured Black Forest ham and cheese-- was (and I never use this term often) 'to die for.' It was a marriage of tangy and sweet, complimented with a driblet of their amazingly exquisite Hollandaise sauce. The salt-boiled potatoes-- a departure from the hashbrowned or country varieties that I typically enjoy with my breakfast entree-- was a welcomed deviation. Too bad I passed on desert. Their bread pudding sounded amazing, and would definitely have to be consumed on a future visit. This was an amazing brunch experience, and I'll definitely be back.

Sad, Sad.

No. No. No. No. No. No.

But then again, that will probably save me money. ;)

Lovely place, great food...but I am afraid they may be gone for good. There was a listing on Craigslist yesterday for a "huge estate sale" at Amadeus Manor, and it was selling restaurant equipment and china :( If this is the case, Milwaukie has lost a unique establishment.

Had a wonderful meal, great ambiance, nice personal touch that our server just happened to be the actual owner, who was absolutely lovely. Meals were excelent and great wine pairing suggestions ... big plus for the great scented fresh flowers.
