Unfortunately, Mucho Gusto didn't have a chance with me. I was trying to use it to hinder my unbearable cravings for the king of burritos - Chipotle. The very first time I went to Mucho Gusto, I was extremely excited. I saw what looked like fantastic ingredients and fresh food. The food IS pretty fresh, but the ingredients manage to conflict with each other... There's Mexican rice, though barely any flavor (I much preferred the cilantro white rice from Chipotle), shredded beef (which is quite boring), chicken (major disappointment), pork (haven't braved that yet). Just eh. The lime-cilantro sour cream is a nice addition, and I enjoy occasionally throwing the shredded jalapenos in my burrito but it just feels like a hot heap of unpredictable food. Hasn't been the same twice. Drinks are ridiculously priced for the size, which makes things incredibly inconvenient because my husband insists on getting bang for his buck so he will go somewhere else to purchase. Strawberry "smoothie" was gross. Not a smoothie, more like a frozen syrup fest. The chips I love, as well as the green salsa. My husband loves Mucho Gusto (but he loves a lot of things) so he gets a burrito and I just settle for a bag of chips. It works, but it's not ideal. I'm sure I may have liked Mucho Gusto more if I hadn't fallen so deeply in love with Chipotle. It just feels like Mucho Gusto is trying to be a copycat yet failing horribly. Worst part is their "catchphrases" and little "Mex-infused" lines scattered around. These can definitely be construed as politically incorrect. It makes me uncomfortable - lacks class that it could have and that Chipotle DOES have (OK, yes, I e-mailed Chipotle telling them to bring one to Medford, so I'm obsessed, whatever.) Oh well!

Hey, it's no gourmet experience. Sometimes this road warrior just wants a predictable and efficient meal. Love the fresh ingredients and the generous portions. Love the neighborhood feel of the patrons. I had a business lunch here and there was no pressure to eat and run. I wanted a very casual dinner and returned. Boring? Hey! I've got hours of work ahead so I want what I know. Do you want authentic spicy? then go elsewhere. Do you want control of the ingredients and fresh preparation? Then eat here!

Went in yesterday, I order chicken wheat burrito and the ingredients looked fresh so I thought it'll be a great burrito but nope. Chicken were bland and dry. Rice is ok, black beans isn't that good. Only help alittle better are the chips. So I give it 3 stars.

Mucho Gusto is one of a few places in Medford where you can get a decent burrito. Out of the options, it's probably the healthiest place too -- their stuff tends to be non-greasy and reasonably fresh. The downside? As many other reviewers have noticed, the flavors are on the bland side. Shredded beef, which is usually my go-to choice in burritos, is dry and unimaginatively seasoned. The pork has some kind of sweet orange thing going on -- I tried it once and didn't like it. All in all, the stuff is good but a bit on the boring side. (Though the lime-cilantro sour cream is good.) I probably come here once a month or so for lunch. The place does seem to treat its employees well. Usually it's the same people working there, and the base pay is $10/hour, so I guess that's good (though that doesn't quite qualify them as a living-wage employer, it's at least better than most other places in the same category). The staff tends to be friendly, though there are a couple folks there who don't like their jobs and it shows.

Longest wAit ever over priced and not even that great . Would not recommend unless you just want slow service and below average food . Won't be eating here again .

I have never liked "fast food"... until I tried Mucho Gusto. The food is great, especially for the price. It's the perfect union between fast food affordability and convenience and-- truly-- FRESH, delicious ingredients! In fact, Mucho is so affordable, I can justifiably order take out once a week, despite living on a student budget. Plus, what better form of quality control than to give customers a completely unobstructed view of the whole kitchen? I have never seen a cleaner kitchen in a fast food restaurant. Not to mention, FRESH VEGGIES! What other fast food joint are you going to find fresh veggies? Subway? Pshhh... Mucho has definitely raised the bar for fast food standards. Now, if we could just get a Bill & Tim's Barbecue down here...

I have eaten at this restaurant twice. The food is good, the price is right, but when you go through the line you had better know what you want. The workers standing behind the line serving you seem to be in a hurry for you to make a selection, even when there isn't someone behind you. When the place is busy and filled with customers it's hard to hear what the servers are asking you, if they don't speak up, that leaves me feeling rushed to make a choice, and I may end up wishing I would have gotten something else. I'll probably go back, but if they are busy I will go some place else..I don't know if they have a full bar, but they do have Margarita's.

Picked up chicken burrito bowl sun 10th a favorite dish of mine. My husband got a huge burrito.came home ate and within a hour I was so ill, in the rest room with horrible diarrhea and vomitting soon followed for hours. After being sick for hours and unable to leave rest room I was able to lay down and rest for a hour. Woke up a felt completely normal again. My husband called to warn them about bad food and they were rude, he then spoke with general manager who felt she was a dr and said it couldn't have been food poisoning to happen so fast.showed no concern or sympathy. There was defiantly something bad in food that my body rejected it so strongly. We aware of eating here and poor management if you ever have a problem!!!!

I am a fan of this place. The food is consistently good and they have a nice variety of salsas and meat options. Awesome chipotle corn salsa, mango salsa and guac. The fish tacos are the bomb with the mango salsa. We eat here a lot when we want a fast meal while running errands or on the way to a movie. Never disappointed.

Pretty good food considering it's fairly cheap and quickly made. Margaritas are quite good. My only complaint is that the staff always appear to be rushing as they make your food, and they clearly don't want to deviate from their standard spiel and routine. The upside is that they are fairly quick.

I find myself here every few months, thinking "maybe this time it will have flavor?" I really WANT to like this place. It tries hard to look and feel like Chipotle, which sadly is not available in these parts. At least at Chipotle, you can kick stuff up a notch and get some heat and flavors (I'm not saying Chipotle is authentic Mexican, btw, just saying it's a comparable restaurant). Ok, so I like spicy food. You'd think a place like this could accommodate that but alas, no dice. Sure, they have a huge bin of jalapenos that you can add to your football-sized burrito, but they take the friggin' seeds out rendering it totally pointless. Brilliant! Wait, maybe I'll add the spicy salsa to get flavor that ain't coming from the peppers (or the bland meat)... um, nope. No flavor or heat there either. Oh sh*t! The ingredients all LOOK really good. It smells good when you walk in. But dang it, the food sucks every time...foshizzle! Pay extra for guac, sour cream, etc etc etc! Whatever. I'll go to Senor Sam's any day of the week over this place-- cheaper, flavorful meats, spicy salsa, nice jalapeno options WITH seeds, thank you very much. And people, let's be clear: this is not Mexican food. It is "Tex Mex," emphasis on Tex.

I recently found out all their food is purchased from Sysco. This explains why the food sucks and why the quality diminished from when it was actually good back in 2008. Never ever coming back here again.

  • Jennifer D.

What's not to like? It's a chipotle concept with better ingredients!

  • Brandon B.

This feels like a Chipotle's little brother. It's close just not there yet. I really wish they didn't give their chips away and made them something to desire not just a mass produced batch like other restaurants. It is great for something quick and gives you the ability to make healthier choices which is nice.

I love that the reviewer above likens this place to Subway as though that was a good thing! Subway would be appropriately analogous to Mucho Gusto, in terms of taste. If you're looking for something totally bland and devoid of flavor, then yes, Mucho Gusto is totally like Subway. At least Subway is relatively cheap! Mucho Gusto nickels and dimes you for everything, from guacamole to a meager (and I do mean meager) serving of chips. A smallish meal for two cost us $16! I suppose that the ingredient quality is above par. Their food certainly does taste fresh -- I'll give them that. But unlike any good Mexican place, the food here is just bland. Their meats are baked (yes, baked) and not grilled. Unlike similar heavily-Americanized burrito chains such as Baja Fresh, Rubio's, and Chipotle, Mucho Gusto isn't even in the same league -- which says a lot. It's not like any of those places is particularly lofty in quality anyway. Sure it's nice inside here, but you're much better off driving down Royal over to Senor Sam's.

I have to give this place five stars- the service always makes the experience fun and engaging but beyond that I do not eat fast food at all- this restaurant is always full because a lot more people care about the freshness and quality of their food- where it comes from- and they want it to be minimally processed. This is all of that- if you thought you were going to another taco truck or fried Mexican food extravaganza I am sure you were totally disappointed.... but to compare this to that is laughable- take both plates to your doctor and ask his opinion.... anyway I was reading through reviews and thought somebody needed to clarify this point a little more- by the way it is also fresh vibrant and delicious too! Proof that food can be fast without being precooked and heavily processed- also a quick note: this is a restaurant that started in Eugene so it's really not that corporate either..... Oregon grown!

  • Andy B.

Tonight our beef tostada was not fresh. The seasoning was clumped in the beef. We had excellent service. The food has diminished in quality since it opened. Baja Fresh is our preferred in this category. Likely not goung back.

This place is probably fine for some people but if you like spicy foods, look elsewhere. If you're familiar with Chipotle, it's similar to that, but with a sweet flavor embedded in everything. Even the "hot" salsa. I should have known something was wrong when I asked for hot sauce and he scooped up the salsa with corn in it. I've never had anything with corn that was spicy, that's usually what the mild stuff is for. Anyway, the service was good, the people were friendly, and the place was packed so apparently everyone was either a first-timer like my wife and I, or there are people who like a watered down flavorless character to their food. If you're like us though and you like some bite, look elsewhere.

Food good prices spendy. It's like a Mexican subway. They won't sub for u if u have an allergy. Will take off the cheese but will charge u for the guacamole. I mean 7.00 for a Burrito plus 1.00 for 2oz of guacamole. Chips come with it and the drinks are bottomless. But I wont be going back. Just too pricy for my budget. Like Miguel's in Eagle point Oregon better at leat the salsa and chips are free and u get a free desert. Or sizzler. U can try it u will be full ur wallet will be less full.

    (3)
  • Jesse N.

The only thing I've tried here on multiple occasions has been their large taco salad or whatever they name it there, but it's good. The prices here are fair for the food quality and portions, and I have found their mango salsa to be pretty good. If this is expensive for you, then perhaps spending about the same at taco bell is better for you.

Great fish tacos! I'm from San Diego where fish tacos can be found and are delicious almost anywhere; Mucho Gusto is the only place I've found in the area that remind me of home! Fresh ingredients, made to order and YOU choose the toppings! I recommend!

  • Kendra S.

I am sad I used to love this place!! They should really have somebody there to train the new employees and help them along with portions! Me and my boyfriend went there the other night they had a new hire on the front line and our portions were so small I sware I was served 5 beans and a table spoon of rice and a bite of protein! I want my money's worth of food especially when we spend 35+ for two!

I have driven by this place for years and did not know anything about it. We needed a quick dinner after an event that ran later than expected and my hosts said they often made this a quick and affordable dinner stop and sometimes did takeout. It is a fast casual restaurant with a Mexican style menu. There are only two locations of this brand but it is part of a small chain of themed restaurants in Oregon, based in Eugene. It had a menu of burritos, tacos, tostadas and salads which you customize as you go through the purchase line. Sounds familiar, right? But so much better and different than the two more famous chains you find in the Denver area. The food really was fresher, more authentically seasoned and with larger portions and very affordable. I will grant that everything in Medford is less expensive than the Denver metro area, but it still seemed a better value. I had the soft corn tortilla taco plate, with carnitas, tomatillo salsa, cabbage, cotija, cliantro, sour cream and red rice and black beans. The carnitas were not greasy at all and very flavorful. I was stuffed. Very good guacamole too with home made chips, both blue and yellow corn. Another at our table had fish tacos with huge pieces of fish that smelled great. The third adult had a veggie burrito. The kid quesadilla went right down the hatch, as did the chips. I have to go back next time I am out there to try some more things. My hosts claim that it is reliably as good as it was the night I was there. The place was clean and the staff friendly and typical plain seating for fast casual. There were some plants for decor. Parking is easy in this strip mall. I did not notice any dessert options but the drink options were fine. Standard beer and margarita choices and typical sodas too. It was just what we needed.

Build your own (well supervise anyway, Subway style) burrito, tostada, tacos, etc. Consistent. Flavorful. Best ever? No. Good place to stop for something different and relatively quick. Large portions. Atmosphere is cafeteria style, hard seats.

Unlike some reviewers indicated, the burritos are NOT big enough to feed two...unless you are not that hungry. Yes, it's bland. Especially in comparison with some awesome places in CA that pack their burritos with flavorful meat and juicy sauces. I liked their atmosphere and their friendly attitude, and the fact that they are here, in Medford, where there aren't many cool places like this one. The menu is simple and though we waited in a long line, it didn't seem to take that long to get our food. I wish they'd give you more chips with your salsa, or at least not skimp on the amount of meat that they put into your burrito. I guess I just got spoiled when I was living in CA...But then again, Mucho gusto wasn't that expensive in comparison with other similar food joints. If you are just looking for a quick lunch with a couple of friends and some fresh food, then give this place a shot.

Love this place! Always Fresh! You can eat really healthy or not! Great prices and fast service. So much better than 'fast food" and still pretty fast. Love the Tostida's. Perfect amount of food and only $5.99.

  • Kyndra M.

For fast food this is fantastic! Its like a Mexican Subway. In house they make everything fresh. You walk up to the counter, order your entree(Burrito, Tostada, etc.) then chose everything inside. Its fast, easy, and healthy. They also have tofu which scores big with me. If you choose to eat-in you can order alcoholic beverages-which can be a huge plus depending on the day. I usually order the Muchorito Burrito for $6.75 have them split it in half and take one half home. Its HUGE! They also do catering.

Best, fresh Mexican in Medford. Though, that is not saying much. Family friendly.

I think this place is pretty solid. Eating here in the Summer is fun as there is a nice outdoor area to enjoy burritos and Coronas. The chicken burrito and tacos are pretty darn good. The wife said the carnitas were good too. Chipotle might be the king, but I'll take Mucho Gusto over anything else I've had in the Rogue Valley.

  • Amy F.

I come here every few months. I like the fresh ingredients. Some reviewers have commented that it isn't spicy enough for them, and I agree but I do think there's good flavor still. I tend to get the carnitas. I usually like tofu, but am not a fan of theirs- too rubbery. I've noticed their portion sizes have decreased lately. Prices are the same, so maybe they are trying to not raise those but save money? The portions are still decent sized, but a burrito used to be huge and I would have some leftovers for the next day. It's great for families. Depending on what you get it can be a nice healthy semi-fast food type of place. I have used them once for catering and they did a wonderful job and had good prices.

Just ate at Mucho Gusto again last night. I love the Tostada, just the right amount of food and very flavorful. Love that I can get a Margarita and not be in a full restaurant with bar. Staff is very friendly and quick. Have seen the line to the door, but it still moves quickly. I like the choice of ingredients, but do wish they had more menu items to choose from.

    (5)
  • Mandy M.

Love the tostada with chicken. I agree with the review that said it is gringo Mexican set up like Subway. They stay very busy, and I wish they had more seating. Twice we've come with a small group (5-6 people) and there wasn't anywhere to sit so we ended up going somewhere else. Other than that, the food is great. Even if there is a line to the door they serve you pretty quickly.

I'm quickly becoming a real fan of this place. The long line, during all times, it just a sign that everyone else really loves this place too. The food is so fresh and good. I love that I can make it to order and that it comes in small and large sizes. I've never been unhappy when I've visited there. The staff is also courteous and helpful. This will probably be a long time favorite for me.

Great fast yummy tasting fresh food! When Mucho Gusto first showed up, I will admit, I was less than estatic. Another Americanized Mexican food place was not what Medford needs. But this place is fantastic! The food is so fresh and tastes so good that it's worth every penny. Yes it is not the most authentic Mexican place, but it's still tasty. Yummy burritos and tacos keep me coming back for more. Put this one on your list. You will not be disappointed. Plus it's healthier than Taco Bell!

It's great to have a good, healthy option for food that is also quick. I especially love the kids eat free Wednesdays!

This is a great place to have a quick and healthy lunch. You never have to wait to long and the staff is very friendly. I especially like the fact that the food is all freshly made.

What a great place. All your Mexican favorites. Choose your own combinations to create just the meal you want. Great options for kids, too. Eat inside or outside at tables with umbrellas. Very friendly staff, nice atmosphere, convenient, fast and fun.

What's not to like? It's a chipotle concept with better ingredients!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
