I am a sucker for authentic Mexican food. Those that enjoy Taco Bell might want to take a stab at Los Morenas. The food is fast, delicious, and inexpensive. It also tastes a heck of a lot better too! Los Morenas is conveniently located across the street from my work, so I visit them frequently. I usually do a phone in order and the food is generally ready in about ten minutes. I recommend the breakfast burrito with al pastor for meat. Morenas has many meat choices and pastor, which is marinated pork, is yummy and not too scary for the uninitiated. Try a torta which is a mexican sandwich. I usually order al pastor for the meat, but carne. Asada is good too. Restaurant is clean for eating in and $5.00 will leave one quite satisfied. Highly recommended. I imagine the money I have spent here the last three years has put a pool in the owners backyard! LOL

There are lot of Mexican places in Medford, and lots of Mexicans. (Surprise.) I was the only English speaker in the restaurant, so that says something. With all of the meat choices, I tried a tongue taco and a "cabeza" (cheek meat) enchilada meal, and tamarind juice. Here's the rundown: * Started with the rice. It was clearly sitting around for awhile, despite it being dinnertime, because parts of it had crust. The rice itself was underflavored. * Beans were watery. I could taste the hamhock/bacon that flavors it, but they were swimming. * Random vegetables - a jalapeno (of course), a lime wedge, a carrot, a pepper?, and something else I forget. One of each, tossed on top of the whole meal. Why? * Enchilada: Getting better now. I realize that my American palate expects more of a taste explosion, and the flavors here are more subtle. I still felt this one was a little lacking (flavor and meat quantity), but I just may not be an enchilada person. Probably should have gotten two tacos. * Taco: Definitely the best, and the one I ate last, so I guess I win? Plenty of meat, taco shell was soft, flavors are authentic. * Dessert: No. They have prepackaged stuff of questionable natural content. I'm wavering between 2 and 3 stars. I'm going with the 3 because a) a lot of Mexicans eat here, so clearly the flavor palette is geared toward them and not me, and b) it's crazy cheap and the food comes out very quickly. I think if I came back and just ordered the #1 meal with three tacos, I'd actually be quite happy.

Nice large burritos for $5. Got 4 of them on a family vacation and ate them at the hotel. Excellent value. Good place to grub. Nice worked behind the counter. 2 thumbs up!

I love this place. It's the best Mexican food I've found in the Medford area. I especially enjoy their pork burritos. They are large, filling, and only $5.00. The staff is very friendly and you can call in your order ahead of time and not have to wait.

Only a couple of places to eat authentic Mexican in Medford, and this is one of them. Very. Good. Food. All the authenticity any foodie could want. Have a cool Tamarindo or Horchata with your meal. Go ahead, try the Tongue (Lengua) tacos, you won't be disappointed. For the not-so-brave, have the taquitos or a burrito. Oh, and the prices sure don't break the bank. Great place. Highly recommended.

Here's the thing with this place: The food isn't bad. The burritos are the best I've had in Medford. But there are too many WTFs for me to give it a solid thumbs-up. First of all, I'm from the Bay Area. I know what Mexican food should taste like and I know how to make it. When I first moved up here, I couldn't find "real" Mexican food to save my damn life. Until a friend turned me onto El Gallo on the other side of town, even finding the stuff to make my own was a real challenge (find carne asada in any of the grocery stores around here and I will bow down to you). One day, my stepdad brought home a burrito from Las Morenas, and I thought to myself, "Okay, this can definitely work in a pinch." Its not what I'm used to (and yes, Mexican food is a regional thing, but good is good), but its the closest I've gotten up here. The problem is, my fiance went and got me a chicken quesadilla today, and when I picked it up, chicken started falling out. I thought this was strange, so I pulled the edge back a bit, and it fell open easily. Odd. Upon closer inspection, I found no cheese. No cheese in my quesadilla. How the hell do you screw up a quesadilla? Its easier to make than friggin' PB&J. I mean, the instructions are in the title. HOW?! In what region of Americanized Mexican food do they not use CHEESE in a QUESAdilla? Had I ordered it plain, would I have gotten nothing but a tortilla wrapped in half? That's beyond disappointing. Its unacceptable. Then there was the time I ordered a breakfast burrito and it came...with lettuce. Please explain to me who decided that eggs and lettuce go well together. I mean, that's not even a fake Mexican food problem, that's just a common sense issue. Bottom line, I will probably go back due to the lack of choices in this town. But its sad that I will practically have to cavity search my food to make sure all the normal components are there. Get it together, guys. You'd be a solid 4 if you did.

This is really the only Mexican restaurant I enjoy coming to for some tacos de carne asada or a torta. Best taqueria in town.

The burrito was super huge and was delicious. Good amount of meat which is nice to see. Some places like to fill with tons of rice to cut costs.

Would give this a solid 3.5 stars if able, but they are above 3 stars for sure! Went here for a business lunch yesterday and was very surprised at the size and quality of the food. I had the Shredded Beef Super Burrito and it had a good amount of beef, sour cream, beans, cheese, avacado, rice and lettuce. This is a heavy burrito. Taste was good, service was fast (you go in, order, pay, sit down then they call your order). Value was good but better at another local place across town, thus, I drop them a half a star. Still, a great place to eat and worth trying!

Our family of 5 tried this place out after looking for places to eat using Yelp. I saw great reviews so we gave it a spin. Everyone is right as far as the prices, very cheap! I was not blown away, nor disgusted, just satisfied for the most part. My husband had a burrito with shredded beef, I snagged a bite and it was good. I had chicken tostadas that were pretty much all chicken, the kids had chicken/ cheese quesadillas that were mostly chicken as well, barely any cheese. All in all, okay but I don't imagine I would try it again.

I found this place via yelp of course after craving for some mexican food for several days straight. I decided to check it out on a Friday night after work around 7 and was surprised to see no customers other than myself at the restaurant. I enjoyed the random ice cream area and the types of candy that they were selling over the counter...these are definitely things you would never find in a normal supermarket. They have also utilized one of the left corners of the restaurant as their storage area (drinks/plates..etc)? Which to me was a sign of authenticity when it comes to mexican cuisine, not sure about anyone else heh. Anyhow, I had the specials of the day - chicken supreme burrito for $5. It definitely was filling and they used real alvacado slices instead of watery guacamole! Decent/filling food, definitely the place to be.

There we were in the southern part of Oregon. We'd just spent the night in Ashland, probably the most ridiculously cute and well-adjusted little nook in America. Frankly, I'd had enough of the sugar factory. I wanted something more. We traversed the back trails and roads, passing the death chamber of Bozo the clown and some millionaires' houses, and finally came to a stop in front of Las Morenas Taqueria. Good God Almighty. I don't normally take kindly to fly-by Mexican and all that truck, but I was mighty hungry and sugar and spice were starting give me ulcers. My bean and cheese burrito with rice and extra hot sauce was so filling and delicious. It was made by the friendliest buncha people I ever saw. We sat right out front and just chowed down. It was good. Too good. Sometimes, roaming the rainy streets of Seattle on foot or by metro bus, I think about that taqueria and I miss her. I truly do. Here's to you Las Morenas.

I grew up around Mexican food and am really excited when I find good authentic Mexican restaurants. The prices here are great for how much food they give you. I absolutely love this place!

If you are looking for affordable, good, and filling food. This place is it. It is always busy, so that is a good sign. Also the staff is friendly, I had the cheese enchiladas and they were very good.

Great prices, y muy sabor! The al pastor torta was a great recommendation. My aunt had chicken enchiladas, but said they were dry.

Some of the best authentic Mexican food in town at a very affordable price. For $8.00 I can get a chicken burrito and 2 Carne asada tacos. One hell of a deal.

Let's compare Las Morenas with its most similar competitor, Taqueria El Gallo over on Oakdale. Las Morenas is cheaper. The food isn't bad. It's pretty authentic Mexican food. The food also tends to be a bit minimal. Their menu certainly is - they don't have the plethora of dishes that other places, including El Gallo, have. El Gallo has a whole condiment bar; Las Morenas just has bottles of hot sauce on the tables. The tostada I had had about a quarter the ingredients as the tostadas at Casa Amiga in Grants Pass. It was a bit cheaper. And pretty bland. The sope was about as good as the ones at Casa Amiga. Las Morenas doesn't serve soups such as pozole or menudo. They also don't do tamales. One can get the basics: tacos, burritos, and such. Tacos were only $1.50 each - as cheap or cheaper than the taco trucks. It's not a bad place to eat, if you're in the neighborhood. You'll enjoy the food. It's just that you'd likely enjoy the food at El Gallo or Los Arcos more.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
