Quality food. The best Mexican food in Medford by far!!!!! Chicken burrito especial is excellent! Grilled chicken with great flavor. Green and red sauce are exquisite. Ambience is nice. Love the booths. Sitting near the kitchen entrance and can see kitchen floor. Very clean!!!! Friendly service.

Had dinner at El Arriero last night and was extremely happy with the food and the service. Maria F. kept our drinks and salsa topped off without having to be asked and was very attentive. I had the #21 combo plate with chicken and beef tacos and a picadillo enchilada ($12.50). The chicken taco was very flavorful and the enchilada was excellent. My wife had the Carne Asada ($13.99), which was delicious with very good grill taste, but she felt is was a bit tough. That is the only reason for not being five stars. The restaurant is located in a strip mall in the Albertson's center at Ross and West Main. The décor is very nice with comfortable booths and soft Mexican background music. After having been told by neighbors there were no good Mexican restaurants in Medford, El Arriero was a welcome and pleasant surprise.

My favorite Mexican food in the valley. The staff treats you like family and there's not a bad dish on the menu. The lunch carnes de res is the best!

The pricing is pretty typical, and the meals are tasty and good portions. The restaurant is larger and far more impressive on the inside than the front of the building leads you to believe. Great place for families, as they also have larger tables to accommodate groups. The place was busy for dinner, and the wait staff was extremely attentive - great job!! I'd definitely return - it's a very clean, well decorated, local Mexican restaurant.

El Arriero is, for my money, the place with the best Mexican food in the Rouge Valley. The kitchen knows how to cook shrimp, beef and chicken and use fresh ingredients. The chips and salsa are always fresh, the waitstaff is very friendly and attentive. I go here about once a week for lunch and have always had a great experience.

Our favorite mexican food and the service is really good. Try their tortilla soup it is so much better than any other mexican restaurant, they actually season the chicken and it really gives it a yummy flavor. We have been going here for years and I realized I had not left them a review.

My wife and I are loyal Si Casa customers, but we were on this side of town and decided to give El Arriero a try. The Yelp reviews are right on! We both thought the food and service were top notch.

While the restaurant is located in a strip mall, this does not detract at all as soon as you walk in the door. The decor is outstanding, the service is great and the food is darned tasty. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area.

I loved this place! We were tired and hungry and were craving Mexican food. The moment I walked in I loved it! The decor is beautiful and the attention to detail was amazing! The food was great! I ordered a margarita and a beef enchilada w/rice and beans....so, so good! My husband ordered a coffee w/ an assortment of liquers that was so tasty it made me a little weak in the knees! Yummy! On top of it all...everyone was so nice. Next time we're in Medford that us the first place we're stopping!

I grew up in Tucson and love good Mexican food, and I really love to eat at El Arriero when I visit my mom in Medford. A wonderful family owns and runs this place and they always add a familiar touch. Inexpensive and large servings, the only thing I'm not mad about is the strip mall setting.

We love this place! Great veggie burritos...with grilled onion and bell pepper along with the delicious rice and beans...with a wonderfully tasty and light red sauce over the top. Mmmm.

Finally got to try this place and really was impressed! The restaurant itself was warm, inviting, and clean. Service was above average for sure-- they are all very friendly and accomodating. I really enjoyed the fresh chips and salsa. Salsa is key to any decent Mexican place and this place has got it down! I had the lunch enchilada plate with rice and beans. Yum! It was the best Mexican food at a sit-down place I've had in a long time. I can't wait to go back here for dinner and try their margaritas and more on their extensive menu. This place is definitely a keeper!

Had the combo plate with a chicken enchilada and my favorite, chilis relleno. Service was friendly as always, loved having both regular and the pica de gallo salsas. I can usually tell by how good a Mexican restaurants chilis relleno is and theirs is great. Good job!

This review is based on just one lunch visit, so perhaps we missed what is special here, but I doubt it. We had burritos, he ground beef and refried beans, I had the pork, both ordered with red sauce. The décor of El Arriero is in the gringo tradition of loud colors, tile and bright colors and the music of canned Jalisco ranchera music, so we didn't expect truly a more authentic lunch, we just kinda hoped. The chips were not bad but from a bag, not this kitchen. The salsa not really inspired, it would have been nice if it had a little more onion and garlic in it. But the lunch was just kind of sad and terribly expensive. I gather that there is a lunch menu during the week; we were here on Sunday, but we paid $11 for each of the dishes. There was just what we ordered, pork in mine, beans and ground beef in his, wrapped in a large flour tortilla, covered with a red sauce that came from a can I suspect. The dish also had sort of a decorative vinegar pickled thing (not really a escabeche) and a little sour cream. That's it. Which is what I said when I paid the bill and left, El Arriero will get no more chances with me.

I went here a few weeks ago with my wife, and we weren't impressed. We are from San Diego so we are use to being able to get very good Mexican food. This place is good for dumb white folks who don't know any better about what is good food and what is crap. I love Mexican so much, but I hate it when it's bland crap that doesn't taste fresh. It's over-priced food for the poor quality it is. Just being honest, not trying to "hate".

I suppose you might say that my wife and I have slightly differing opinions of the food here. We've only had two meals, but neither one inspired me. I had burritos both times, one with pork and the other vegetarian. The pork burrito was overly stuffed with meat, and it kinda lost its character with its overpowering meat filling. The veggie burrito was slightly better...I had it with refried beans rather than whole beans. A few too many onions for my taste though. On the other hand, my wife found her avocado tostadas to be wonderful...or so she says. The margarita was very good and the service was great. I guess I'm still looking for that special restaurant with flavorful authentic Mexican food. Needless to say, this one doesn't quite work for me...but it was a step up from Si Casa.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
