Tucked away in a Mexican-targeted strip mall in Hillsboro is Los Lagos. Frederico, the owner, is very friendly and will take the time to walk you through the menu. First things first: everything is done from scratch: the salsa, the tortilla chips, everything (I hate canned Mexican rice *garf*). He even has a few things off menu and, since everything is done from scratch, will adapt to special requests (like my daughter who is celiac/gluten free and dairy free). While not on the menu, the ground beef tacos are quite simply the best I've ever had anywhere (I can't even make them this good at home--so that will tell you something, but hold the sour cream please). The guacamole is creamy, chunky, and delicious (and I don't like it generally). The magic drink is a Don Julio margarita--for little more than $5 this drink is intensely flavorful and not the watered-down syrup water you get everywhere else. The prices are incredibly low--my wife and I regularly get a huge meal and drinks for less than $30. I understand why, but in another location, they could charge 50% more and people would gladly pay for it. Keep this in mind when you tip. This restaurant has earned a place in our small list of regular restaurants--looking at it from the outside, I would never have guessed it would. Amazing! 5 stars. Go eat there now! :)

In my opinion, the customer service was very poor. We go inside and aren't greeted by anyone which made us both feel very uncomfortable. After we were seated, my husband and I both ordered enchiladas (his - pork, mine - chicken) and were both disappointed with the results. He enjoyed his more than I did mine. There wasn't much meat in the enchiladas and while the chips and salsa were okay, I was disappointed that the sauces and salsa were spicy. We were given bottled water which made me feel nervous about the quality of the water there and after being there a while, realized that this place is under new ownership as there are signs saying Las Fuentes y Taquiera. It was extremely dead inside and the seating and decor is very dated.

Wow! This place came out of no where. Truthfully I didn't never expected such delicious food and kind service from a hidden strip mall restaurant. I had a Groupon to redeem before it expired the next day. We were greeted right away and given water along with delicious, warm tortilla chips and salsa. I ordered an avocado margarita which came out quickly and was good. It didn't actually taste like avocado, as I was expecting, but it was still a positive tequila drinking experience. I ordered the fish tacos with a request to swap the pico de gallo for some chopped tomatoes. Ben ordered two orders of fish tacos as well. At $5.50 an order you receive two tacos and a side of rice or beans. What a steal! Coming from San Diego it's incredibly difficult to find good fish tacos in the greater Portland area. I've only found one other place (also in Hillsboro) that serves fish tacos worth going back for. The tacos were delivered..moment of truth... THEY ARE DELICIOUS! Fresh and tasty, with wonderful sauces and a ripe slice of avocado in top. They were served just as I requested. I'm for sure a repeat customer. Not only to they serve delicious food but the waiter was incredibly friendly and made sure we always had water and everything we needed. The Groupon redemption was easy. Thank you, Los Lagos, for good fish tacos. Can't wait for more!

Beware. This is under new ownership as La Fuente Taqueria. The food is barely adequate and the chili rellenos were nearly unpalatable. Their menus are from the former restaurant and some of the items are not even available. Clearly their focus here is on their bar and the dance crowd for Friday and Saturday. The decor is very tired appears to be compiled from several locations.

I ordered agua de Jamaica and I got horchata. Then i ordered a deep fried quesadilla and I received a quesadilla plate!!! The cheese was discussing and I was over charged. And to make my experience worst people (drug addicts and prostitutes) kept coming in to use their restroom then asking to allow them to charge their phone there. I will never come back!

Plain and simple, Fish Tacos! Since my return from San Diego I have realized that finding a place in the northwest that caters to my fish taco needs are far and few between. Was surprised that I had to drive all the way to Hillsboro to find what I've been looking for. Waiter was amazing and offered some of the best customer service you could ask for. I suspect he might be the owner as well. In any case, its great to see wonderful food paired with excellent customer service. Great job, keep it up.

Delicious and inexpensive tacos. The tacos al pastor were perfect and the salsa and chips before the meal were fresh and flavorful.

Great dollar tacos! The pastor and barbecue beef are both winners! Tasty and fresh salsa and warm chips.

Not 4 1/2 star worthy. It's located in a run down strip mall, has a sign that difficult to make out, and has window "art" promoting prices that are now higher on the actual menu. Inside is covered in typical tacky Mexican decor, had balloons that where deflating and hanging sadly near the entrance and there was only one guy present. I assume there was one other person in the back cooking. I had the combo with chicken enchilada and tamal. Both were bland and not exciting. My friend got the enchilada platter which was also disappointing and bland. The chips and salsa were good though. We also shared a sope with shredded beef (the meat wasn't on the menu) and that was the best thing there. We had blended cocktails - margarita and blue Hawaiian. They were sugary and clearly didn't have good alcohol or fresh mixers. The ambiance wasn't warm or inviting and the place was empty and run down. The food was only so-so.

First visit to this establishment, had a coupon so decided to try it, definitely not going to be one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. Food portions were small for the menu prices. Tamale and Enchilada had very little sauce and were no better tan any other Mexican chain restarants. The chicken enchilada tasted either old or had a strange flavor. All portions were small even rice & beans. Salsa for the chips was very good. Will not return here, there are several other, much better, Mexican restaurants very close by.

Incredibly cheap dinner drinks. $1.99 Margaritas! This little gem has some excellent Mexican food, and it's not the kind all laden with cheese. Everything is reasonably priced, including the side tacos at $1.00 each! The owner and crew are very friendly. Will be back!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
