I relapsed. It had been many moons since I was tempted by my dark vice: the Chinese food buffet. I have never tried one that I liked. Yet, I was compelled to keep trying new ones until I hit rock bottom at some disgusting Chinese buffet in Corvallis. I didn't remember it's name the next morning and by the time I woke up my bed was cold. Anyway, after driving past Dancing Dragon many times without specifically noticing it, I saw a sign last week saying they have a buffet lunch. I resisted, for the time being, until I could read what my fellow Yeeps had to say. Seeing three 4 stars, one 5, and one 1 star, I felt ok about giving it a shot. I respect these Yeep's opinions, but these enablers aided me in making a mistake. The first bad sign was seeing Fox News projected on a large screen directly in front of where I was seated. Of all the horrendous TV available out there, Faux News is the one I avoid above all. Avoided even more than American Idol. If I want fake news, at least give me some humor like the Onion. In addition, the dimness made me question the cleanliness of the establishment. Was it dark to prevent people from seeing if it is dirty or not? For some reason, I am ok with eating tacos in a filthy environment, but not Chinese food. Is that politically incorrect? Seeing, the food, I should have left right then. Still, I pressed on, and I have no one to blame but myself. I piled on pork fried rice, Mandarin chicken, an egg roll, and barbecued pork (I think--there was no label). The barbecued pork was the only thing I almost liked. The sauce was good but the pork was fatty and cold. The rice was flavorless and dry, the egg roll had very little filling and was over fried. The mandarin chicken had the most batter I have ever experienced. I'm not sure how much chicken was actually in there. Everything else I saw did not look fit for consumption. I will not be back to this place and I am promising myself not go to anymore Chinese buffets unless it gets some serious stars by many, many Yelp friends.

Its true. This place is pretty much the worst in every aspect that makes up the mega task that is good food service. "Why 2 stars then?" you ask. One word: Eggrolls. I have tried several items on the DD menu in an attempt to support my boyfriends belief that the place really is decent. By the way, 7 months and a dozen dinners later, he still supports that belief. In my experience the food is disgusting in a new and exciting way each and every time, and the DD is the only restaurant that has actually made me wonder if the cat/dog asian eatery sterotype had any actual validity. I bluff you not fellow eaters, this place cant even pull off fried rice without it not only being bad, but suspect as well. Ive never been inside the actual restaurant, which should tell you volumes about the outside of the restaurant. Yet for some reason, the DD has managed to master the art that is the Eggroll. Easily 8" long and 5.5" around (makes for excellent inappropriate dinner props if youre as immature as I can be) and stuffed with some heavenly concoction of what I hope is vegetables (there may be other things in the mix but I fear asking) and deep fried in what I hope is legitimate animal fat, just one is an entire meal. Sometimes I crave the DD eggroll, I can not help it and I am not ashamed. In closing, just remember: Eggroll ONLY and dont think about it (and by "it", I mean The Dancing Dragon).

The chicken terryaki was really good! It was sweet and delicious! I especially love the spring rolls! Yum!

Once again fate has brought us to the doorstop of the Dragon, this time for a sit down dinner. We had a delightful experience as I can count on the Dancing Dragon to provide! As I have subtly implied in the past, one does not do the Dragon for an epicurean adventure in the conventional sense. But adventure it always is! For many, the best way to start the evening, or afternoon, would be to pull up a barstool and smack back one or five Singapore Slings or Shandong Marys. Then stagger in the dining room and consider the menu. We just can't get past the Gourmet "Family Style Dinners" and tonight we throw caution to the wind and plunked down the big bucks for the "D" dinner which is as expensive as it gets here at $10.75 a person. What is the most fun? The décor? Fellow patrons? Perhaps the flaming appetizer presentation? (see my photos). I asked the server what to do with the tiki torch/hibachi flame. It is symbolic, signifying the Dragon Fire Platter and that the bamboo-stick beef that was grilled. Evidently. SO wasn't sure that his stick of beef was cooked enough and put it on the ornamental grill for a last minute flame. I was not as adventuresome. I treated mine as a garnish. He liked the egg rolls which reminded him of the little place that his family used to go to when he was a tyke. The apps were horrible, really. We argued about which dish was the Mandarin Chicken and which one was the Sweet & Sour Pork. One of them was stone cold, but it was cheerfully removed when we shared this information with our server, who whisked it away and one would assume had it microwaved and returned piping hot. We both agreed that the winning dish was the Dragon Special Chow Yuk (sautéed vegetables with different meat products). I could tell that one of the special ingredients in this dish was a spectacular amount of monosodium glutamate, giving the "pow!" that only MSG can bring to an entree, but there was something else, a certain ce je ne sais quoi. I kept swirling one of the pink meat things in my mouth...but of course! Spam! And my point, other than eating here gives me great fodder for ridicule, is that an evening here is grand entertainment as well as a strong opportunity for a grand tummy ache when you head out for the evening. Yes, you could spend a little more and get a hot dog, pop corn and pop with a movie, but here you become part of the event like one of those mystery dinner theater things, but for a lot less cash. Plus, you get a fortune cookie. And, um, left overs. Which I thoughtfully left "accidently". SO is disappointed. I am not.

Just awful. I ordered the fried rice. I needed to add pepper and sriracha and still I couldn't taste the spiciness even though it stated on the menu that it's a hot dish. We were half through our meal and the waitress asked if we needed boxes...we weren't even done - felt so rushed oh and did I mention she came out with the fortune cookies and the check when we were a couple of bites into our food. Terrible. As for the food maybe a fast food restaurant but not a restaurant...deceiving.

Ok, sadly they are back down to 2 stars for me and I think I don't need to eat there anymore after today. I went to lunch a bit late at 1:30 it is a fair drive for me to get here as I live in Beaverton but was CRAVING some good Chinese. They sat me down and the owner dude brought me a carafe of iced tea, either I blacked out or I ordered it, I am not sure which, but it was damn good tea. I seriously do not remember asking for it, but I digress. I ordered the number 6 lunch special as usual which is Fried Rice, Subgum Chicken Chow Mein, Fried Shrimp and Barbecued Pork. I noticed today that the rice is probably not fried, it is very brown and has not one stitch of anything other than rice in it, no veggies, weird. The shrimp today was greasy and the breading was raw. The Subgum Chicken was still great if you get pan fried noodles and the Pork was good. They sat me down, took my order, gave me my food and that was the last I saw of them. They all sat down and had lunch together (owner, servers and cooks I guess). There is no music so I could hear them clearly (including eating) and I felt weird eating myself with them sitting so close by. No one ever came to see if I was ok or needed anything. It was just weird, I was the only patron in the place. I took my book so I was in no hurry and finally after their lunch was over my server came by with my bill. Perhaps that is why I got the carafe of iced tea so they could ignore me for awhile. I realized today that I have been eating here since I was about 12 years and I am now 45, that is a long ass time and they have done zero remodeling or updating, it is the exact same as when I was a teen. p.s. the bathrooms are gross!

One word: beware! If only I had read the reviews before going there. Now I'm ashamed to even admit it, but we hadn't had Chinese food for a long time and, thinking that all old school Chinese food places like this were the same, we ended up there last Sunday. We ordered egg rolls to share and a combo each. First the egg rolls: we just expected the normal crispy on the outside, full of veggies and great for dipping little appetizers that you can get everywhere, even the grocery store. Nope! What they brought us were more the size of fast food burritos, fried and greasy on the outside, mostly doughy on the inside with a little bit of mushy, slightly greenish stuff with a hint of curry flavor (vegetables???) ... GROSS! and just weird. Next the combos... my husband got the subgum with sweet and sour chicken, I got the kung pao with sweet and sour pork, and both came with fried rice. He said the subgum was ok, but both of our sweet and sour dishes (exactly the same btw) were doughy, undercooked and mostly globs of batter (not sure what was inside). I could only eat about 1/3 of the kung pao they served me, because it was so spicy-yet flavorless, even mixing the sweet and sour sauce didn't help! The peanuts were soggy, the "chicken" was mushy, the sauce was thick and starchy...there was nothing fresh about it. Thankfully, we didn't finish our meals and didn't take a box for our dog because I've been sick for 2 days (ugh, really sick - details not necessary), and I hate to think how much worse it may have been if I had eaten more. This place is ok if you want to lose a few pounds, but definitely - - not recommended!

Truly terrible. I used to come here as a child and have fond memories of eating here with my grandparents who have since passed. I had sincerely hoped after the restaurant burned down, that they would take the opportunity to rework the restaurant. Unfortunately, they didn't. The food was bland and the restaurant was HOT - like 80 degrees. When we complained about sweating in our booth, they told us they turned down the temp on the air conditioning, but we never felt the difference. The staff was friendly enough, but the ambiance and the flavorless food will keep me away forever. I wish I had never gone back - at least I still would have had my pleasant memories ... American Chinese food may not be great, but I will happily spend my money at Wong's - the food is hot, plentiful and seasoned right with a good staff looking after you.

The Dragon, our go-to Chinese food spot in Hillsboro. Let's be real, this place isn't great.. but if you're looking for reasonably priced American-Chinese food, it will definitely do! We always go for the combo plates, which provide more than enough food to satisfy. Service is quick and the staff is always friendly.. As long as your hopes aren't too high, you won't be disappointed..

This place was fantastic! I ordered a huge order of takeout with friends one night, and when we went to go pick it up I noticed that someone had ran their car into the side of the wall at the front entrance, making it literally a great hole in the wall. This place was quick and friendly, and our food was fantastic. Absolutely the best chow mein I have ever had, and very reasonably priced too. Our meal was less than $40 total for 4 people and we ordered a TON of food.

I've been here for only take out and it's been okay. This time we had lunch inside and the atmosphere is very simple but clean. So I ask them if they have, Salted Pepper Squid... NO. Honey Walnut Shrimp...NO. The waiter told us that they serve "Chinese American" food. Meaning nothing complicated or authentic. HA! Could of went to Panda Express for that. Anyways we ordered basic dishes.... and waited... and waited. For being the only group in the restaurant. I felt like we waited more than we should. But I guess you get it fresh. The portions were not big and they didn't give us much meat for the Mongolian Beef. More cabbage than beef. The prices were too high for what they are offering. It's sad to see a restaurant that's been there for years and hasn't been successful. Service was slow and boring. Not recommended.

They have been a family favorite for decades now. Chicken noodles with vegetables is my comfort food! Egg rolls are awesome and pork chow mein with pan fried noodles sublime. Staff turnover is fairly low so you start to feel like you know them! Simple, basic chinese food - comfort food bliss every time.

Preface: I am a white person, looking for regular boring Americanized-Chinese food. Chicken donut kind of stuff. This has it. But it tastes gross. All of it. Like the oil/grease/batter is just funky tasting. I can suspend disbelief for gooey concoctions of unknown substances and be quite happy, but if something tastes weird I start to get freaked out... Go to a grocery store before coming here.

This is our go-to place for Chinese food in Hillsboro. The service is good, the tea is decent, the food is always delicious, the eggrolls are huge, addictive and greasy (a good thing in this case), and I like the mural on the wall. I've never visited the lounge itself, but the drinks that have come from there have been so-so. This place borders on dive, which I think has partly to do with location, but it's charming for this place. It's almost always empty, so I'm shocked if there's ever more than 2 booths filled. I've had lots of good times here with friends and family so it's close to my heart, but I've never had a bad experience here so no need to be stingy with my review!

Absolutely disgusting. Worst place I've ever attempted to eat at. The inside hasn't been touched since submitting to the no-smoking law and still reeks of smoke and everything has a yellow tinge. Ordered the egg rolls on previous Yelp reviews: TERRIBLE. They were mushy and filled with an unidentifiable mass of yuck. There were two other couples in the restaurant, both older and looked as if they frequented the place often. I will personally NEVER be back.

I had just moved into the area, and wanted to find a good Chinese restaurant that was close. This restaurant was not very clean to begin with, and when I got the food home, it was so bad, my dog wouldn't even touch it. Haven't been back and warn any one who wants good Chinese food to keep looking!!

I wish I could give this place no stars as it was one of my worst dining experiences ever. Other than the time that I went out to eat on the coast and a restaurant tried to serve my friend and I moldy food-stating that it was good for our health since penicillin is derived from mold. But anyhow, I'll stick to one review at a time =) I was in the area and in search of a decent "wishing for good" Chinese restaurant, I decided to give this one a try. The place was completely empty and awkward. Upon walking into the restaurant, we saw the waitress eating and the manager on his cell phone roaming around the restaurant. The decor was off.....beautiful murals painted on the walls, dirty ceilings and hanging lights from the 60's. Our dinnerware/flatware were dirty. We tried a won tong soup and the broth tasted funky. The rest of the food wasn't that great either. We were the only ones dining in the restaurant- we had two people on the wait staff and the manager watching us- which felt like being babysat while dining! Every couple of minutes they would walk by, stare and not speak to us. But- on the decent-good side, I found one thing interesting about this place- as I was walking to another part of the restaurant I noticed a large bar somewhat hidden behind curtains with projection TV- they had a basketball game airing- that made me smile- I was so excited that I wanted to move my table to the other side of the restaurant- but I figured it would be best to end this experience as quickly as possible. Restaurant #2 on my "stay far far away - never return" list.

This place ain't that bad. They did fix this place up a bit, and it is much better now that Oregon Ban smoking in restaurants. I do see the employees sitting down and the manager on the phone, but its most likely due to the decrease in business and bad economy..not like it bothers me, because i came there to eat. LOL. The food experience I had here was good. I ordered their egg flower soup, and kung po special. I love kung po, and it was pretty good at this place. The special had shrimp, chicken, and beef....and spicy! yummy.. I would come back to this place again, the service wasn't bad and the food tasted fine.

OK, yes this place is a bit of dive. It's older, a bit rough around the edges and run down some. But, all in all, I keep come back here for Chinese food. Why? Because it's predictable. I know the food is exactly the same each time and it's good. I love their crab puffs, and the rest is pretty standard fare. I've never gotten bad food here. It's always quiet (dead), the waitress is always sitting in the front booth, etc. But I've been coming here for about ten years and it's always been that same way. It's like the neighborhood bar - kinda dirty, kinda sleazy, but everyone keeps going to it anyways. Someone else mentioned the yummy eggrolls. Myself, I can't stand them, but to each their own. My addiction here is those darn crabpuffs and the red sauce. :) Decent prices, reliable food. Hard to beat that these days and well-worth looking past the worn down decor.

The food is horrible. Its very dry and not flavorful. Prices are a bit spendy Drinks taste flat, but thats because they use RC cola. I even caught a worker smoking in the kitchen. When I saw that i just walked out and left. ended up getting something at mcdonalds down the road.

I love Dancing Dragon. Their egg rolls are perfect. Their Chow Mein with pan fried noodles is perfect. They have always been clean and they are incredibly friendly. Ah, and their mustard. Chinese restaurants should make their mustard-- no plastic packets for me. Dancing Dragon has always done a great job on this front. Their BBQ pork is the best I've had. I don't know what they do to it- but it's perfection. I live in Portland, and out Chinese food options are scarce. One of the few things that makes me miss the burbs. Asian food is 10 times better west of the hills. This is my first choice for dinner with the parents when I'm in Hillsboro. My mother is NOT into Chinese food-- but she will eat here. This place is pretty old school- looks the same as it did when I was 5. Same candy machines, same artwork, same glass counter with little goodies inside. Perhaps some of their food is little dry, but I much prefer dry over slimy.

I should have read reviews before coming here. This place is nasty. Egg foo young is more like nasty dog fooyoung worthy of dog food. Definitely no return trip.

I really don't know how this place stay open. My co-worker goes here every now and then, I'm not sure why cause he always complains about it. I have tried their food twice when he has picked something up and I will not eat anything from here again. I tried different things thinking maybe I just got something they don't make well but I have since come to the conclusion that they just are not very good.

This place is flat NASTY! IF YOU HAVE MSG ISSUES, DO NOT EAT HERE! I'VE BEEN SICK ALL NIGHT! !! Save your money and go elsewhere! This is our second time at this establishment. (Thought we'd give them a second chance) While waiting for our $42.00 of food to go, we noticed the Black trails on the red carpet leading to and from the kitchen. My boyfriend and I also noticed that at 7 pm on a Saturday night there was only one other couple in the entire restaurant. The first time we ate there, we both felt effects of ???? So Sat night I became very ill from so much MSG. The food is way over battered and questionable at best! Again, save your money and go elsewhere! !!

I wish I had read any one of the reviews before I ate here. I would have taken everyone else's advice and saved my money. The food was very bland and barely qualified as Chinese food. The outside of the pot stickers were very thick and had a sweet taste to them that threw the entire flavor off. The best tasting part of the meal was the fortune cookies. This place gets 2 stars for the speed of service and how pleasant they were. Save your money.

I wish I had red the reviews before going here. I actually wanted to go to Rock N Wingz but they were closed. I was starving and decided to go here. I ordered some lunch plate with sweet and sour chicken, and sesame chicken, along with pork lo mein. Half of the chicken was covered in the sweet and sour sauce, and the other part of it was sauceless. I asked if they forgot the sesame sauce, and she pointed to this concoction that looked like ketchup, mustard, and sesame seeds. She said that was the sauce. Ewwwwww. Also the lo mein was undercooked. You'd be better off going to a Chinese food buffet than eating here.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
