I ordered the chole batura and it is definitely the best I have had in Portland area. Also big portion size for the price I paid. The pani puri and samosa were just okay, but the green chutney that came with it was amazing!the chicken kabobs,I am not a huge fan, chicken was just slightly undercooked. The owner was very warm and welcoming, quick and good service .he threw in a kulfi for half price for us to try, while it tasted really good,it was slightly icy . All in all definitely a good fast food joint for Indian snacks, good portions for the price .

The menu is pretty wide-ranging and the prices are good. I had biryani today, which looks & tastes like a spiced, fancy rice blend with chicken on top & intermixed. I ordered naan - theirs is awesome. It came with some cucumber/yogurt/spiced sauce that has addictive properties and now all I want to do is wait until I'm no longer stuffed and go back to eat more food. Bottom line: it doesn't suck.

Took takeout from this place in downtown Hillsboro.. their samosas are excellent, freshly fried and the chutneys are great. Also had the Chicken Kadhai and Chicken Achari. Very oily but very tasty too.. not the healthiest meal but the gravy was delicious, especially the Achari. Some of the best non vegetarian mughlai food I've had in Portland till date.

This was spectacular. All three things we tried were excellent-fresh tasting. The papri chaat was cool and crunchy, the spicy chicken wrap was delish-chicken done perfectly, and the lamb dish was tender. We will be back soon. We think we found our new favorite restaurant!

It's nice to have another restaurant option in town. For the local vegans, there isn't a whole lot to choose from. We've tried a few of the Chaat items and the Samosas and the mint chutney definitely stood out. The Mix Vegetable Masala is good, and the Spicy Vegy Kofka Curry is very good. It's great to have this just down the street from my work.

Very less vegetarian options and also salt was missing on all items . Good service and nice chat items . Not authentic Indian food but can go for having chaat items.

Very good food. Owner is very friendly. Small, but a very cosy environment. If you are in town for a good taste with reasonable price, try this place.

Absolutely authentic Indian food. I didn't expect to find something like this here, but if you want to find the best chicken vindaloo within 50 miles, you'll find it here. I hail from the Silicon Valley. One of the best parts about the place, in my opinion, is the stellar Indian food. But it's hard to find the same tastiness when you're not there, which is why I was elated to discover this place. It's definitely a hole in the wall, with most dishes being served in to-go containers. The owner doesn't speak much English. But the thing that matters to me much more is that the spices and cooking are without equal. Eat here. You won't regret it.

A small, hole-in-the-wall place, absolutely delicious northern Indian food. Fresh ingredients, great recipes and inexpensive. The naans are the best I have ever had. They come in three flavors, plain, garlic and spinach.

Ok so this for the vegetable tikka masla which is nothing but oil :( and a few veggies floating on top. Completely disappointed in you ! I shall give it another try.... just because I am a fan of the palak paneer. Maybe I shall just stick to that ..

Killer! As bad as the English grammar on every piece of printed material is... the food is equally as excellent. Papri chaat, samosa chaat, and spicy chicken wrap... I WANT TO HAVE ANOTHER RIGHT NOW! GIVE IT TO ME NOW. I want that sauce to drip out of the cheap tin- foil wrapper, scald my hand, and dare me to like it off in public. NOW! Dive? Yes. Fun to try and communicate with owner? Yes. Other-world feel? Yes. Flavor? Yes. Excellent flavor? Yes. Hand made tandoori slapped naan? Yes. My wife and I have come back... how many times now, honey?... 5.. 6? Can we go tonight? Look the kids are not even here... Let's go and get one. As a downtown Hillsboro resident, I am truly proud to point you toward this establishment. I hope they manage their books better than their grammar because they need to stay around here... Potentially the best set of real flavors in our town.

I was so excited to try this chaat place. First time it got closed at 2:30pm. Online time mentioned is 3 pm! Never mind finally got to try it for lunch. I am disappointed as none of the food items stood out for me. 1)Papdi chaat: average preparation. Too much of cold yogurt and bland taste.Just 2 chutneys, potato and papdi with yogurt used. 2)Paneer tikka masala: excessively sweet, too much cream and grease. Fried paneer with no fresh taste. No flavors at all. I will give this dish 1/5.:(. Didn't taste fresh at all! 3)Chole bhature: this tasted better than rest. Not very spicy and tasted good. 4)Chai :Not strong and flavorful as per Indian chai standards. Customer service: order food on counter and they get it on table. I did mention about my disappointment with paneer tikka masala, the person on counter said he will let his uncle know and next time we should tell them to make it spicy. I am going to give this place a miss. Unless I hear something good about the place. From my experience will give it 2.5 stars.

This past Friday, the owner of Chaat Cafe allowed me to conduct a free energy survey as a volunteer for Green Impact Campaign. I was greeted by a very nice gentleman who essentially gave me carte blanche to perform a very thorough survey. He graciously accepted a few recommendations I offered to help save additional money on the café's water and electricity bills. Very cozy and casual indoor dining atmosphere; I came away from the experience with a very favorable impression. I'm now tempted to go back and try some of their tasty food!

Really glad I felt adventurous and went for the Samosa Chaat instead of chick tikka masala. What a marvelous combo of flavors and textures. Sweet, savory, crunchy, creamy, fried samosa peices, but not too greasy. The owner was obviously tired but genuinely made an effort to be friendly and came off as some sort of mix of humorously dismissive and appreciative. A real human being. Definitely coming back to try the rest of the menu and get a mango lassi.

If you have ever made any trips to India, this place will make you think you that you are there. I started with Pani Puri, crisp shells filled with potatoes and spicy water. Samosas were a great size and good and hot. Chicken Curry dinner was amazing! Boneless chicken in yogurt and onion based curry. Plenty of food for two or three to share. Highly recommended.

This is a small restaurant with about 5-6 tables. The kitchen is open, so you can see what and how they are cooking which I think is nice. The owners are very friendly. Now coming to the food, I have had a few items on various occasions. Their chaat items (aaloo tikki chaat, papri chaat, etc) are the best you can get in Portland. Chhole Bhature were a good portion size for the money and the chhole was good but the bhature even though not super oily like other places in Portland were a little thick and bready which is not like real bhature. They should be on the thinner side. But again, best in Portland. Their wraps are good and are a great value for your money. The owner really wanted us to try fish kabab but I wasn't a fan of them after trying. All in all it is definitely a place to keep going for good Indian/Pakistani food.

We were looking for a place to have lunch on Saturday. I was upset to find out that the restaraunts that I wanted to eat at were closed. So I went to this cafe for the first time. I am so glad that I did. The servers were very friendly, and seemed happy that we were there. The food was delicious and the price was reasonable. It is wonderful to have this Eastern Cuisine in the middle of Hillsboro and so close to my home.

I had the lamb palak (spinach). It was great. Also tried the aloo naan which was fairly bland. Also their Raita was fairly poor - to much sugar. I've eaten food with chicken from there in the past and it was really good. I don't know the names of the dishes as someone else ordered the food. Actual restaurant is small. I don't they can seat to many people.

Door opens at 11...we walked in at 11:15.... And the guy behind the counter goes... We are out of biriyani. So I ask, you ran out in 15 mins? He says... Big party order came in so we are out of lot of things. I was hoping that statement will come with an apology, but it was served with a smirk of pride.

Hands down, this is the best Indian food in town. My mouth is still on fire(in a good way). I had no idea Indian food could have such layered flavor. Good service. Quick and friendly. Get the Aloo Tikki Chaat. Dont ask me how to say it, but I'd eat it twice a day. I also had the the lamb karachi gohst. Tender lamb in a rich and spicy sauce. I cant wait to go back.

The chicken tikka masala and butter chicken are extremely good. The chicken was good but a bit bland. The dinner portions are huge, so it might be a good idea to split. Make sure to order extra naan!

Being Lent and a Friday, I wanted to get a fish dish. Ordered their fish vindaloo dinner. Came with a side of mixed veggie curry, chana or gabanzo bean curry, small salad, rice and naan. The fish vindaloo was a little spicy (which is a good thing) and full of flavor. The mixed veggie curry was very tasty as was the chana. I can't find any fault with this place. Very authentic Indian flavors. Tasted like something an Indian mom would make. The place is tiny with little room for dine in customers. Service is friendly and fast. I'll take this place over any of the local Indian buffets any time. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the dishes.

This is a new addition to the downtown Hillsboro dining scene, specializing in take-out but with some limited seating on site. The cafe could easily be dismissed as yet another lunch offering for the workday crowd, but that wouldn't do it justice. It's open for dinner and is very much a credible and affordable option, convenient to the surrounding neighborhoods. We ordered dinner on a Saturday night, choosing some good benchmark dishes: the butter chicken ($9.99), lamb with spinach (palak gosht, $10.99), and garlic naan ($2.49). Given that the place has chaat in the name, we figured it would be a good idea to try one. We chose the samosa chaat ($5.49). The employee who took our phone order was friendly and helpful, and the food was ready when we arrived 15 minutes later. Portions were generous, the above dishes will easily serve 3-4. In this restaurant the chaat and sides steal the show. The samosa chaat was flavorful and had a great variety of spiciness, creaminess, and minty sweetness. The samosa still had a good crunch to it, as did the accompanying chickpeas. The meals come with curried mixed vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, peas, onions) which were outstanding, with good heat to them; as well as a nice mellow dal makhani (curried lentils and kidney beans). The garlic naan was good, a bit on the white side, but still with some crunch around the edges. The main dishes were very good, but it seems like they're still finding their stride here. The meat to sauce ratio was excellent, they certainly don't skimp here, and the quality of the meat was very good. The butter chicken sauce was good and thick, with a great creamy mouth feel. The palak gosht had some real texture to it, with actual strands of spinach, not the more homogeneous puree offered in many places. What was missing from both dishes was complexity. The sauce bases were good, and there was clearly some attention to spicing, but they didn't quite have the depth of flavor one expects from Indian. For their first few weeks in business, Chaat Cafe is doing a good job. They offer very serviceable Indian at good prices, in a convenient location, and they're a great addition to the Hillsboro dining scene. We'll certainly be back, and will be sure to try out some of their other unique dishes. I wish them well.

Delicious tikka masala that is very close to our favorite place in the Bay Area. This is the best indian place In the beaverton/hillsboro area, by far. I tried the chicken tikka wrap as well and it was not my favorite. I'll return for the chicken tikka masala!

This is a small place, but with an extensive menu. The portions are generous and the food well done. The Chicken Vindaloo lunch option for example is large plate of curry and rice. The Aloo Tikka Chaat is enough food for a good lunch. It is also very tasty. If you like food from the Indian Sub-Continent, you will love this place. There was free chai (Spiced Indian tea) when I was there. Service as others have noted was superb.

Excellent small restaurant with an excellent range of items. There are few spaces to sit down ... the food was piping hot (saag paneer & roti), samosa chaat was excellent. Will certainly visit again.
