This is an eminently tolerable sports bar - high praise coming from someone whom sports bore to incomprehension and who avoids eating in any establishment full of big screens. I live nearby and sometimes pop in for breakfast. That a bar can do a decent Benedict is pretty impressive. The omelets are huge and worthwhile, too. Recently we sauntered down there for a hangover lunch to find that the menu has changed. My reaction? Initially, horrified: the cursive font is difficult to read and improper apostrophe use abound's (sic). I was then disappointed to find that my favorite menu item was gone - the pork mole tacos, a relic of Chef Jevon (inventor of the Horsehead menu & recipes)'s stint in the kitchen. With him (and now his menu) gone, I have few reasons apart from breakfast to eat here. As a place to drink, not a lot of bang for one's buck can be had. Micros are $4.75, and the doubles here are small and more expensive than what you'd find at Barmuda. Session drinkers are advised to go elsewhere, but it's a decent place to throw back a few and watch election returns. The covered smoking area is a nice amenity but be warned: the heat lamps are broken and not likely to be fixed soon, according to staff. Also, they have Karaoke on Thursdays, in case that matters to you. EDIT: See owner comment below for corrected/additional pricing info. Also, my recent experience with their nachos was positive, which I would get again.

This place has the greatest chicken fried steak in Eugene, hands down!!!! I have never been dissatisfied with it. Its safe to say I've tried nearly every chicken fried steak in south Eugene and downtown. I always try and drag friends here, They have never complained after the fact:) The bloody marys are good, my only request would be a couple extra things added to it and maybe more vodka, i always want to buy an extra shot to add to mine. Other than that i love this place and i wish i lived closer. Great beer selection! Covered smoking area, aaaand they smoke their own meats! I keep telling myself I'll try something other than breakfast, but i never do lol. Great service, kid friendly (usually not to an annoying extreme when I'm not feeling kid friendly either) juke box, pool, gambling, sports on tv! One last request, get rid of those weird fans above the bar! Haha they couldn't possibly be effective?

I live nearby the Old Pad, in fact, it's the closest bar to my house. I always have had a good time hanging out here. It's just a super-chill, neighborhood place. It may be a little more expensive than say, Starlight, or the like of downtown bars. But, if you live nearby, the bit more you'd pay you'll recoup in saving yourself a cab ride home. Come here to sit and chat with friends over a drink, or play pool and relax. Don't come here looking for a high energy party (apparently unless there's a UFC fight or similar sporting event on!) Tip: This place is great for a large group.

Good steaks, good beer, and free UFC. Man-approved!

Neighborhood bar. No frills. Pretty average beer selection for Oregon. Average Service.

The Old Pad is amazing! I mean, the name of it alone is enough to make you love it ha ha. It is a great place to go when you are hungover and not quite ready to stop the party... great grub at reasonable prices, and the same goes for drinks. You also get a real look at the local crowd of the Eug, always fun!

Avoid. Period. In the name of all that's Eugenean. Pretty please, with sugar on top. You really want detail? Okay, here goes: The new owners are from California. The husband is rich (and at the prices the place charges, he's getting richer by swindling the dwindling pool of customers). The trophy wife is really too good to be working there, as she will happily tell you, and is just contributing to make hubby happy while she takes a break from law school. Yes, she had the gall to tell us as much. I swear on my mother's life I'm not making up a word of it. The food sucks. The new folks tossed the venerable, beloved old menu in favor of whatever was trendy in Los Muchodineros, or wherever they came from. Of course, there's still plenty of disgusting greasy stuff - but no more simple, halfway healthy, and reasonably-priced breakfasts. They tossed out the great employees, some of whom had been there for years, too. You can rent yourself a hookah and smoke tobacco through it for $8, but please don't. It causes cancer, and you deserve better. Much better. It wasn't bad enough that a couple of jerks took over a great tavern and turned it into something utterly without merit - they've gotta be death merchants, too. Yes, they still have beer and other overpriced drinks - but the place has zero heart. A fine, decades-old south Eugene tradition utterly destroyed by out-of-towners who simply don't give a damn. Try Turtles on Willamette Street. Better atmosphere, far better food, better prices, and less repugnant ownership.

***Update to my prior review*** While I can't/won't retract the review of their bacon bleu burger (horrible is just horrible)--I have another couple things to add, from a follow-up trip. After writing the previous review, I was contacted by the ownership. The person that wrote me was eager to buy me lunch & discuss possible ways to improve the food at the Pad, saying "I want to give my customers the best". While my schedule has gotten in the way of following through with this gentleman, I'd certainly like to applaud his commitment. That's just damned cool behavior, for any business owner. I want to reiterate that my previous review was based solely upon the burger I'd had... which has since struck me as a little unfair to the Pad, as a whole. I've returned for another go at the place, and am issuing a truly deserving review now. During my recent visit I had a club sandwich, and yet again fantastic service. This experience was every bit as enjoyable as the first, aaaaand included a very delicious sandwich. I don't know what was up with the burger I had during my first visit, versus the sandwich from the last... but it absolutely feels like they came from two entirely separate kitchens. I look forward to future experiences... with the latter kitchen. :)

I am glad to see the ownership is keeping track of yelp. When things as simple as potatoes and bacon are so poorly done one could only hope the management is aware and perhaps even intends it that way. The review was obviously half jest, though the breakfast on the simple side dishes was in serious question. The Benedict I had as well was done properly and could be even better with spinach- especially considering the season.

This is a fun place that's close to home! The food is good pub food, the beer selection is big, the pool is fun, and the employees are super friendly. Fun place!

This is just a great local bar! It's one of those places where the staff knows your name and you get great service. Ross makes the best Bloody Mary's in town. I love the nostalgia factor too......Steve Prefontaine worked there back in the day! Great place to watch Duck games. And don't for get to stop by for a fishbowl on your birthday :-)

You know, it really depends on your purpose for going to the Old Pad what kind of star rating to provide. If it is for food, then I have to agree with Emily S.: the nachos are bullcrap. If, however, you want to watch sports and drink in Eugene, then I have no hesitation about pulling out a fourth star. Service has been impeccable on my last two visits. And they have great sound as well as televisions --so a person can hear the game as well as have a TV to themselves (or very nearly). My most recent trip to the OP was to watch the Super Bowl last weekend. The crowd was mellow, there were plenty of places to sit, and the place was very clean. There are two sets of bathrooms in the place: one at the "front" of the bar, and one at the back of the bar--by the pool tables. The WC in the back bar is the cold one (and I didn't venture in there on account of prior reviews) but the WC in the front bar was perfectly clean, non-smelly, and fine for my OCD. I will definitely be back the next time I want to watch a game (coming up: March Madness) outside the comfort of my own home. It's located in Southtown(e), our pints of Boneyard IPA were $4, and the waitstaff respect why you're there...which is mostly for the TVs.

Was a fan for several years until I walked in tonight looking to watch a Rutgers vs Washington state football game and was told by the bartender all the tv's ( I'm talking 10 at least) were all dedicated to the Seahawks game... I will never go back to this place after the disrespect I was given. I even liked the young guy who said he was an owner. One tip for ya, don't hire bar star assholes!

Fun place to hang out, play pool, and listen to music. Staff are always friendly. Good food.

This poor place isn't run well, ordered cheese fries which came out greasy and over garnished. The drinks are good and the bartender very nice. If only he'd invest in some AC.

Service is a little slow, especially with how empty the place was. But the food totally made up for it. The salmon cakes were AMAZING, recommended to all. Great food, strong drinks, and all of it for CHEAP. Will definitely be returning.

Cool place. I was visiting last year for the WSU Oregon game... right there you know I'm in for it. Came to the Paddock for breakfast and pregame fun since the game was a late &;30 kickoff. Great food. Really cool layout and awesome people. Duck fans get a bad rap, but everyone I talked to was really fun and good natured college football talk. Drinks and food were quick and served by a great staff. All nice people that really seem to enjoy working there. Not too common, yet really nice to come across. The menu is a very wide variety and we all enjoyed our time there. I'll be back for sure and have given my thumbs up to all I know either in the area or visiting like I was.

I like going here for the great food, and the atmosphere. I also like the infused vodka drink that I had made with lavender. I have always been treated very well by everyone here. My guy and I order a variety of food from here so it's hard to say which is my favorite. You can tell it is quality food, I would almost think it's home cooking. We like that you can come and enjoy a Duck game or two with a few friends here and have some fun. I like coming as early as I can on a Friday night so I can get their prime rib dinner. We went here one night and we ended up getting the last of it, and the table next to us was drooling over our prime rib as we ate. I am pretty positive that is what they came in for. We also had one of the baked apples and that was to die for. We were here last night and I saw some great looking specials on the board that I want to try next.

Come one, come all! This place is great if you're homeless or diabetic. Rearrange your face while ripping through an innocent chicken's ACL or eat out the center of a deletable crab cake, browned to perfection... Either way you'll be licking your wounds; chances are they'll have more seasoning than the chicken fried steak you just ordered that was slathered in the Executive Chef's man gravy... Cheers!

Honestly...there isn't a better establishment where I would want to spend my money. The service is great...the menu is that of a restaurant not a sports bar and the management seems to have their crap together! I find some of these 1 star ratings super comical. If I had it my way...I would be at The Paddock A LOT more than I am. The food is SUBPERB not sub-par....the staff is pretty amazing and the regulars, well they are the one's that make the place so fun! Thank you Paddock staff for keeping it real....and remember...HATERS GONNA HATE!

The Old Pad is the epitome of the friendly neighborhood bar. Situated at the foot of the South Hills in East Eugene, the Old Pad is welcome to all. It's one of a few places in town we head to after softball, for big college or pro football/hoops games, or for happy hour. The place is beautiful wood inside, has a couple pool tables, and a back patio. One of the nice things about Old Pad is unlike the bigger (chain) sports bars, you can hear yourself think and talk, even with big games on the TVs - quality, good-sized HD flat screens are everywhere, while not being intrusive. The staff is friendly and efficient, and the bar-type food is good, too, including great daily specials (i.e., slider and taco nights!). They always have a bunch of good beers on tap, including local faves (e.g., Oakshire, Ninkasi) and other craft (e.g., Lagunitas) and cheaper domestics. If you're looking for a spot to get together with friends, especially for a big game, you should give Old Pad a try. Enjoy!! Peace out..

Decided to eat out and my father recommended this place on 6/15/15. Unfortunately I had a pretty upsetting experience. The waitress was extremely friendly and pleasant to talk to (the only positive), but the food took a /really/ long time to get to our table, my friend and I ran out of things to say and awkwardly sat there.. just waiting.. It was odd how long it took to cook 2 sandwiches.. when the bar only had 3 other customers.. anyways when we finally got our meal ( Burger & french dip sandwich ) I noticed that the bread on the french dip had multiple green mold spots on it.. I took it back and the friendly waitress apologized and got us a new one... Now I had my burger and my friend had nothing so we waited again.. I didn't want to eat my meal in front of my friend so I waited for him to get his food re-cooked... by the time he got his food my food was room temperature with a cold bun. This was an upsetting experience and I wouldn't bring my business here..

Fun Old-school college / Ugenian atmosphere with fun seating, lots of pool tables, juke boxes and good drinks. usually not too over crowded also which is nice and hard to find in a ever growing community such as ours in eugene.

This was my first time here. Driving by, I never realized they had food. I always thought that this was a bar. Far from it. They have an excellent menu for food. Each time I've come for breakfast, the food has been excellent and the service spectacular. It is also much less expensive than many other places in town yet the food is amazingly good. Finally, even when it is crowded, there seems to be a lot of respect for your neighbors in that is not too noisy. Either that or the place is large enough to accommodate the sound. I can actually have a conversation with the person next to me and I actually hear what they're saying unlike many places in town. After this first experience, I will definitely be back. Oh yes-- and one more thing. The only reason I go to Brailes is because of their great traditional hash browns. The ones here are just as good and half the price. This is my new "go to" place. Good job management and staff.

One waitress for 150 people. Owners are as cheaply put together as the food. Sad. Stay away for events. Maybe you can solo it. Maybe

This is my favorite place to come on Friday nights for the prime rib dinner. They always cook it to perfection and the sides are delicious! One of the best in town! Breakfast is excellent too! Great atmosphere!

So, came here for breakfast for the first time because their sign says, "Best Breakfast in Town". Well..... if you're into cold gravy on your chicken fried steak, a hair on your luke warm potatoes, and hockey puck style biscuits, then you would rate this place the "best" crappy breakfast in town. The other funny thing was when the 3rd customers ordered biscuits & gravy & the waitress said they were out of gravy. Out of gravy?! It's only 8:45am! WTH!!! Anyways, VERY poor experience & I, for one, will not go back for breakfast.

Outstanding service, Clean, with mostly way above average bar food. (Currently they employ a REAL Chef!) Did I mention great service? Bottom line here is that if I'm going to drop my hard earned dollars on a meal and a couple of drinks with friends, I deserve what the Old Pad offers: A clean, Friendly, Welcoming atmosphere. No BS service and good food. We haven't been back to The Highlands in months!

This has been our neighborhood pub for awhile now and I am getting more and more impressed every time I come in. The staff are so friendly and fast and the atmosphere is casual and relaxed. The food has always been good, but lately we have been blown away by how great it is. It's not a "scene" of any kind. Everyone is welcome and I love how diverse the customers are. Great place to watch a game or just meet with friends, just what a neighborhood bar should be. I never leave feeling ripped off, or hungry!

I have never had a disappointing experience here. The inside is clean and the staff are friendly and attentive. The food is excellent! Best taco Tuesday in town! Great breakfast menu. The Paddock can also accommodate a large gathering of people..makes a good place for large family breakfasts or dinners.

Great unsuspecting sports bar from the looks of the outside. B-fest is great hangover cure. Traditional eggs, hash browns & toast. Nice servers and drinks :)

  • Meghan T.

The crab cakes get a five, home made aioli sauce in (a bar nonetheless) that is fabulous! Great service, good beer selection and a nice atmosphere for watching football. The only minus is no weekend happy hour.

  • Grant B.

This place rules! They have the absolute best service in town. None of the pretentious hipster servers that all the other local places insist on hiring. The drinks are reasonably priced, and the food is almost all good. Overall I love this place and recommend it if you're looking for a relaxed local watering hole with good people. For those people complaining about the food: Come on, no one is calling this a 4 star restaurant, it's a really chill bar that happens to serve some pretty darn good food.

The Old Pad, you kind of suck. I've been visiting The Old Pad for nearly 14 years because it's in walking distance of my house, and it's been through a lot of changes. Used to be able to bring your dog to the back patio until someone complained enough. Got a bunch of good IPAs on tap. Was bought by an owner who went to some bar owner convention in Vegas and came back with videos to play 24-7 of women's dancing silhouettes. At some point the menu was expanded for some very decent bar food. At this juncture, The OId Pad gets an extra star for allowing my baby in. And that's about it. We went for some New Years nachos yesterday and my only request to the server was that they had no meat. What we got was some melted cheese, some beans and a blob of sour cream. I had to request the gross, canned salsa. They were the saddest nachos ever. Turns out you have to ask for supreme nachos to get something more than melted cheese and chips. And the crappy nachos were $8. I pointed out to the server that if you change your menu, it would be nice to let folks know, but she just smiled and walked away. We ordered two IPAs, again, kuddos for having two on tap but why the heck are you charging $5.75 for a Hop Valley IPA that was a reasonable $4.50 at a fancy restaurant the night before? And why was the Hop Valley more than the Ninaksi? Crappy sports bars in Eugene, Oregon don't get to charge $5.75 for a pint of beer. Finally, the bathroom was freezing and smelled bad and I wouldn't use it. Okay, I'm done. With The Old Pad and this review. Bad nachos make me crabby. Edited: I've been (very nicely) informed by the owner that the dancing silhouettes are no longer and they've pulled the bad nachos from the menu. Maybe I'll venture back and add a star after I've had a couple of their tasty IPAs.

Some friends of mine were meeting up here and they asked me to join them. I decided to read the reviews before going and was amazed by all the bad reports. But sure enough, the complaints about slow service and forgotten orders were true. Our server neglected to bring several things that we ordered and it took us forever to even get her attention to ask why we hadn't received these things. On the plus side, the food was tasty, although spicier than expected, it just takes forever to get, if you get it at all.
