If I could give this place a negative 10 on customer service, I would. The bartender, Sean cut me off after I expressed discontent with having to wait 20 minutes for my first beer. His reaction was essentially a gross overreaction. Honestly, if your customers are waiting 20 minutes for 1 beer you should expect some discontent. I'll add that I wasn't belligerent, did not cuss, did not yell or behave inappropriately. I merely pointed out (in a complaining tone) that I had been waiting for 20 minutes and all I wanted was 1 beer. So, the lesson you can take away from this is, if you have any sort of complaint or find their customer service lacking, don't express anything about it. I think the owners should possibly hire another bartender to help Sean out but also discuss with him the parameters of customer service. Unrelated to this is the signage faux pas. Eugene is NOT "little Portland" and the expression of it as such is completely patronizing. Get it together Barn Light.

Expensive, cold , and boring. The Meatloaf sandwich tasted like some salty old leftover hamburger from last night's meal topped with a coleslaw, heavy on the mayo. The potato salad tasted canned, and so did the chicken salad. Drinks were forgotten and the wait staff was lost .Why would you run the AC on a cold rainy evening? Those too small metal chairs have got to go. Carbonated lemonade doesn't appeal to me and makes me wonder how old it is. Anyone can do better,I had high hopes but was thoroughly disappointed. Two sandwiches, a draft and a lemonade for $24 plus tip. I will not be back. I am not a troll, and really think that reviewers here should be more honest. I upgraded this to 2 stars because I do not think it it fair to "filter" negative reviews, but I realize that maybe I was a bit harsh. But if the ambiance is cold, the food and drinks mediocre and the service is lacking I will not give an establishment a second chance. They need to know these things and I hope that the Barn Light works on these issues.

This place is funky and cute. It's nice to be able to hangout at a bar without TVs blaring sports or news, especially with co-workers or other associates. If I were hanging out with close friends and in this neighborhood, I would prefer to be at the Horsehead or Rogue.

Started going to the Barn light a couple months back after hearing about a foosball league. Have kept coming back since then. Love the atmosphere, and the drinks and food are all good and decently priced for a downtown bar. The staff has always been pleasant and the bar is never too crowded, but I haven't been in on a Saturday night either, usually just pop in after work or early on the weekends. With Sizzle pie open next door its simple to grab a slice of pie, then head over for a couple beers and some foosball or shuffleboard.

Coffee is good enough, serving water avenue, food is mediocre at best and done in a very lazy and Luke warm way. Tmosphere is very hip, much more so than a Portland or Seattle underground coffee shop. Wouldn't go out of my way to go here unless you need good cappuccino

  • Michael S.

The one thing I can say is that it's not a good late night coffee shop. The coffee is good and the people are nice but it turns into more of a bar at night.

Well... I grew up in the PNW and am a lover of coffee. I live on the East coast now but was in Eugene for the weekend. I love the abundance of coffee shops there! On the East coast your only choice is Starbucks. Anyway, some ladies were showing me around town and took me here. Really cool decor and atmosphere! I had a vanilla latte and it was really good with fun foam art on top. I don't want to give 5 stars because as others have said the staff wasn't super friendly. Just a very flat "have a good day" when we left. She was just saying it out of obligation. I went during the morning but apparently this place turn into a bar at night? Could be cool to go back for that someday.

Best coffee in town. I go pretty much daily. I don't understand the anti-hipster hate. They're all nice folks. Just don't order a s'mores Frapacino. You're a grown up. That's a milkshake. If you want a milkshake get a milkshake. Coffee requires a grinder, not a blender. Oh, and if you want the special coffee they only serve to those of us with beards and flannel shirts, knock on the counter three times and say, "modest mouse has gotten so mainstream." Then wait. If you speak they'll know you're a tourist.

The Stumptown coffee is incredible, the lunch is pretty darn good, and the drinks aren't bad at all. If you're self conscious about "hipsters" with plaid shirts, beards, and tight jeans, lighten up. They're nice people and the service is great, by eugene or any other standards. Sit in here in the afternoon and it's like Cheers up in here, and the people coming in aren't all young cool types. That coffee tho...

Had a blast here with friends while coming home to Eugene for a short weekend. This is the exact type of place Eugene needs, hipster or not. A great atmosphere with excellent beer and an energetic crowd.

Aesthetically pleasing atmosphere, delicious edibles, wide range of cold beers and hand-crafted cocktails. They make better coffee drinks than some of the local pure coffee shops. The Barn Light (TBL) has a great staff, fun regulars, and is absolutely worth a visit! This is a really great place to tuck in with your laptop and work through the afternoon with your lunch and a cup of coffee. Plenty of tables to work at inside that have power outlets. Their cocktail list rotates seasonally with new creations and prohibition-era throwbacks. I've never been disappointed with the changes, it's fun trying new things. For the casual set/setting, the bartenders have above-expectation knowledge of ingredients, preparation techniques, and are happy to give advice or share their favorites. My favorite bartender is Grady, he's always on point, especially when there is a crowd. I've had 10+ sandwich plates here and the quality has been consistently high. I never had a problem, and I have the sense that if there ever was, the staff would be happy to make it right -- they're super nice.

I love, love, love, love, love this place. Have I mentioned how much I love this place?? It's my favorite place to go and chill at when in Eugene. I go here when I just feel like getting out but not "getting my groove thing on" super chill, I can even bring my laptop and work here if I need to. Great coffee. I can even get my Irish whiskey here. Oh! and the staff are awesome!! Really nice people...

The Barn Light is currently my favorite spot in Eugene to grab high-quality (Stumptown) coffee in the morning, and a craft cocktail in the evening (in my case today...early afternoon). I'm a huge fan of their coffee-glazed bacon, which is fabulous on their breakfast sandwich with cheddar and an IMPOSSIBLY fluffy egg. Today however, the bacon on my TBA is overcooked and tastes burnt :( Maybe their morning chef is more skilled in the art of bacon sizzling. Sipping now: a "Freshen Up" cocktail w/ house-infused cucumber vodka, ginger soda, sage bitters... very light, refreshing (obviously) and super cucumbery. I like. I have to give TBL huge props on the side salad. My salad is actually a perfect size rather than being a depressing little stack of 5 pieces of lettuce. This is a salad that takes me more than 2 bites to consume.

TWO THUMBS DOWN!!!!!!!! What a bunch of yippity yuppies AND the worst part is they're super rude, especially the short dark haired bartender(someone needs to tell her to pull the stick out of her ...) Had a horrible experience here, but I'll spare you all the details. Let's just say it left me with a bad taste in my mouth..... If you want to be treated like trash definitely give this place a try! You won't be disappointed! I will be calling management but from the sound of it they're not known for their coffee or cocktails rather their speciality is horrible customer service with a side of raging biotch and a twist of passive aggressiveness. Shaken the fuck up, not stirred.

I really do find the eclectic hipster-licious aesthetic of The Barn Light to be quirkily charming. The spacious room has a nice rustic edge to it, with it's wood interior, dimly lit lighting, and decorations consisting of a deer head, handsaws, the American flag, and various vintage signage. A variety of tables and vintage chairs decorate the main room across from a nicely sized bar which is showcases a nice selection of Bourbons, Whiskeys, Gin, Tequilla, Vodka, and more. Towards the back of the room is a Shuffleboard table and Foosball table. Background music is typically downtempo indie/alternative hits which compliments the easy going atmosphere. I typically frequent The Barn Light for late night study sessions so I'm a fan of the variety of espresso beverages they offer. However, The Barn Light is primarily known for it's selection of various beers, available both on tap and canned. To complement your drinks, The Barn Light offers some house-made bar food such as pretzels, their Frito Pie, and Brat & Beer. Personally, I'm not a beer fanatic so I opted to try their recently updated cocktail menu. The bartender working that night was also exceptionally friendly, polite, and certainly knowledgable which made the process of selecting the right drinks, all the more fun and easy! I decided to go with the Dr. Strangelove and later, the Red Dawn. Both were made well and had nice flavors. They were not exceptionally strong but certainly made for refreshing Spring/Summer drinks. I would recommend The Barn Light to anyonel who enjoy a more mellow socializing or drinking atmosphere and of course, is a fan of beer! So, throw on those skinny jeans, favorite plaid shirt, and get on that pretzel and beer life at The Barn Light!

The barnlight has a sweet patio which makes for great people watching. The bartender that we ordered through was pretty unhelpful. She seemed to want to serve us even though there were no customers behind us or on the other side of the bar. The Barn Light had been recommended to us and it was our first time there. She was not helpful when we asked for drink suggestions. The drinks ended up being okay and the food was good but we went elsewhere to spend our evening after all that. A plus is that they have wifi and that it's accessible from their patio :)

They have drinks that is perfect for dusk and dawn, early risers and late night owls, and afternoon tea. Their sandwiches are simple, satisfying and inexpensive. This is a great place is ideal for a variety of things: study independently, hang out with a friend, have an impromptu date or meet with a colleague. The owners of this bar/coffeehouse are geniuses; it's not everyday that I find an establishment that caters to a variety of folks.

Super interesting (read as: not sure what side of the fence I'm on) atmosphere and vibe. Feels like a tavern, a coffee shop and a lunch spot all mixed into one. Parking was a bear to deal with on a Sunday early afternoon, but that's probably normal for downtown. The food was pretty good, but they didn't have a very extensive menu. I could see going back and trying it again.

Ok...unfriendly staff, only soy milk alternative, asked for extra hot mocha and that request was ignored, mocha needed more chocolate, overall taste was deficient. This is a first and last visit for me!

The Barn Light is a little bit of PDX nestled into downtown Eugene. This place has a good feel to it, a bar with a twist of coffee house if you can imagine that. We visited for about 2 hours and had a great time here. The beer selection is pretty decent. Displayed on a huge green and red board (see pic), you should be able to find something to sip on ranging from 6 different kinds of coffee, to 7 different beers and about 8 house cocktails. Not to mention, they also have a pretty vast selection of beer in cans too. I would say one of the best things about this place is they serve their drinks in Mason Jars. HAH! Yeah, I said Mason Jars. If you're turned off by that, don't even stop by here. I've drank out of Mason Jars my whole life due to having a mother who cans and jars any and everything, so for me personally it was welcoming to be able to sip my beer from those familiar glasses. Oakshire's Spring Forth was on tap, and it was a real well balanced brew. A little malty, but plenty of hops to keep it even. I'm not sure how often they rotate their taps, they apparently had Boneyard IPA a few weeks prior, but not when we were there. Damn it! Great place to sit down after work and throw a few back.

So you find the guy who was in charge of decorating Applebee's back in its rapid-expansion heyday. This guy LOVES random crap, and throwing it up all over the walls. You walk into any Applebee's, anywhere, and his fingerprints are all over it. Fast forward a few years: the expansion is over, and our random-crap loving friend has retired to Portland, where he grows a competitive beard, drinks ironic PBR, and spends more at the bougie Goodwill than some of us spend on the mortgage. He comes out of retirement, just once, to integrate his old love of random crap and his newfound love of hipster culture. He's going to spread his fingerprints to the boonies, two hours south. Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Barn Light. Enjoy.

They have salads finally (she said a happy sing-songy voice)! Fresh yummy greens with my choice of chicken salad, tuna salad, or eggless egg salad on top. Chicken salad it hit the spot just right :)

Karaoke on Thursday nights: The lights dim, the two beautiful hipster bartenders start to scowl loathfully as they efficiently mix conceptual drinks and sell cans of Hamm's, the hostess sings random songs of yesteryear so earnestly that you'll cringe at first then smile after the first awkward songs are over. But once you warm up to the idea, expect the following delights: 1. Unusually diverse crowd in many ways. If you like unassuming, this is your night. 2. Ridiculous and mostly bad MIDI versions of songs that become awesome when half the bar scream-sings them. 3. People dancing around in really silly ways because the music is so random. 4. Bartenders that continue to be so intensely morose about the whole scene that it's comical, especially in comparison to the silly and happy crowd.

The bartenders are terrible and act personally inconvenienced if you ask for anything more than a can of beer. The decor is unimaginative. The sign outside says "little portland". When asked about it, the bartender called Eugene a sh*th@le and said it should be so lucky. I happen to love this town....I also like friendly service and good drinks....so NOT the barnlight

My favorite place to hang out in Eugene. I would go there to do homework after class, eat and drink with classmates throughout the day, and enjoy the night with some drinks. I can stay there all day!! I'm sure I have. The employees are nice, accommodating, play good tunes, and the prices are just fine. Not overpriced, normal bar prices. Great atmosphere!

It's cute how people complain that this place is "hipster." It's downtown, what do you expect? Better than it being full of hippies. They make the best Bloody Mary's I have ever had in my life and their happy hour is pretty affordable. I nearly live at this place though, so I may be biased.

  • Dawn C.

At present, this is my favorite location to have a brew (beans or barley) and get some work done. Love the music they play, the on-tap selections, and the crowd. Have you heard of Monday game night? Well, grab your Catan board and come on down. Not yet tried the food; my purpose for stopping in just hasn't required that. Places like these take the cake. *bucks, shmar-bucks.

I love this place...I seriously really really love this place. I stop in every time I'm in Eugene. The drinks are on the pricy side but it's worth it. I don't get bothered by random people, I hardly ever bump into anyone I know, they have foosball...what's not to like?

  • C. A.

Another loud and obnoxious "hipster" place. Downtown needs better restaurants than this sort of crap! Eugene restaurants have this ridiculous tendency that is occurring at EVERY new place that opens. Hard surfaces that sound simply reflects off of, NO CLEAR SIGNAGE to know you are to order at the counter, then wait for your food to be brought to the counter and announced with your number (not clearly marked when there are several orders coming out at once), then bus our own tables. AND YOU STILL HAVE A TIP JAR IN FRONT OF THE REGISTER???! WTF - if I am going to order myself at your counter, pick it up myself, then bus my own table. YOU are NOT GETTING A TIP - pure and simple. Get a grip Eugene, if you want to be all trendy then get off your high horse and act like a respectful restaurant that treats their patrons like patrons and come to my table and take my order...and bus the table after, then you MIGHT GET A TIP!

I went here the other night with my friends as we ended up downtown a little earlier then expected and most of the bars were dead. I had never been before and had wanted to check it out. The atmosphere is super cool and totally hipster like everyone else has stated. I was disappointed when I ordered a Washington apple to drink and they didn't have the stuff to make it. So I settled for a vodka cran, they serve their drinks in mason jars but not normal sized mason jars. They are about half the size. If I am paying 6 bucks for a drink I at least want a normal sized glass worth. I guess the positive was the bartenders are super cute. It was also nice because they noticed some guy was kind of bothering my friends and they came to check on us to make sure we were okay. This place is newer so maybe they will start to get more selection and hopefully bigger glasses.

Love the atmosphere of TBL, friendly staff, great selection of drinks from morning till night and the food is fun & flavorful. Great place to go for a morning coffee meeting, lunch or drinks after work. Great ambiance inside, interesting people watching outside. Thank you for bringing TBL to DT Eugene!

I've not seen so many square glasses paired with lace-up boots & flannel overshirts since - oh right, two weeks ago in Portland. CONGRATS, Barn Light. Thanks for bringing Portland down to Eugene, one hipster & Pabst combo at a time. The space is comfortable, the lighting (candles! fancy!) is low-key, the tea (I had loose leaf vanilla rooibos) is excellent, the menu is extensive, everything is served in adorably hipster-chic mug/glass/stem/dinner ware, aaaand... the bartenders are cute. WELL DONE, TBL. :) Bottom Line: It's a go.

This is the best place to go if you are looking for a classy young crowd, good drinks, and a lively atmosphere in Eugene. It's fun to sit on the tables outside and watch people pass by on the ever-trendier Broadway & Willamette. I just can't get enough of the good vibes.

Once I stepped inside, I felt like I was going into my grandpa's basement...or my Uncle Jim's lakeside cabin during the winter. And I mean that in a totally cool way. It has that old, vintage, cozy aesthetic that's just, heartwarming. Think: wood, vintage, dim lighting and decor. It's a wonderful addition to the changing downtown scene. I'm hoping these new establishments will last the test of time and stay alive for the long haul...because the Eug needs it. You can tell the owners put a lot of thought and time into making this place different than any other place in Eug, with the ambiance and decor, and I appreciate that. The drink prices are fair and on-par with most other places in town. The food looks delicious, but all of my friends said the portions were HUGE. Ok...i'm being sarcastic.

This is a good place for coffee, PBR, or artisan small batch free range organic grass fed free trade shade grown hooch. It's a classic hipster habitat, but don't let that scare you away. Yes, all of the staff exhibits hipsterlicious pieces of flair including (but not limited to) handlebar mustaches, knuckle tattoos, preposterous beards, glasses, and generalized aloofness. There may be a portal to Southeast Portland buried underneath it. They serve Water Avenue Coffee, which is both awesome and not super common. And they know how to make coffee both reasonably quickly and reasonably well. Prices are good, and their munchies are good, too. Come early, though. This place gets invaded by the laptop-afflicted quickly.

  • Dan E.

NOISY! I really recommend adding carpet here as the place is an echo chamber. We had trouble hearing each other at our table for the whole 2 hours we were there. Are there quieter espresso machines on the market!!?? Also, the staff turned up the radio twice to bar levels - it was 8:30 - 10:30 AM and music was just not needed, let alone thumping blaring stuff. And I'm only 40. :-)

I've been here a couple of times and have had a good experience each time. I like the atmosphere, bartenders are friendly, and I like the drinks. I've really enjoyed sitting outside at the tables this summer. We brought our dog with us and had a couple of drinks. It was a nice evening.

  • Maret S.

This place. I don't get it. It's trying REALLY hard to be something, but the vibe is so phony I feel myself turning into Holden Caulfield every time I walk through those doors. I like what a previous reviewer said--it's deliberate. And it's a turn off.

Yum! My chicken salad sandwich is delicious - from the bread all the way to the filling! My order came with chips, some yummy macaroon type thingies and some (wow) pickles I haven't had the likes of since I left Alabama 10 years ago. I like the ambiance and the friendly servers. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because the $6 sandwich was a bit on the skimpy side - I wanted about 3 more bites because it tasted so good! A great new addition to our downtown food options! I look forward to sampling their cocktails sometime soon.

  • Matthew S.

Bartender didn't make me feel welcome and she didn't let me play shuffle board because they were closing in a half hour. Free fooze ball is great but I guess if you're not a hipster-regular, they don't want your business.

    (2)
  • Adam S.

This is a little piece of Portland planted in Eugene, and it's very welcome as far as I'm concerned. Great big space, wifi, really good espresso, happy hour deals and food. The food is a touch on the pricey side for what you get but the sandwiches are really good. Surprisingly few vegetarian options, but overall a great place with nice ambience.

If you couldn't tell by the look of the bartenders or the decor that this place is trying to draw in hipsters, just take a look at the cocktail menu. They actually have a cocktail with PBR. And it sucks. Quite bitter. Though at least you get the rest of the PBR can with it! The coffee they serve during the day is WAY too sour, Portland style. Overextracted. I much prefer an Italian style bitter roast. The food menu is so-so. The frito pie was essentially what you might make at home: Fritos, bit of chili, and some cheese. Nothing special and not a particularly large portion. We tried to order two other things, don't remember what, but they were out. Oh well. While the food and drinks are a little disappointing, the bartenders are friendly, and they have two huge, comfy armchairs in the back where you can sit and work or chat. The crowd seems pretty good too, sometimes very hipster-heavy, but during the day and earlier in the evening I found it to be a pretty standard Eugene crowd. The atmosphere is welcoming with just the right level of light in the evening to sit comfortably and have a private conversation with friends, while still being able to meet new people.

I love the barn light. It's a great place to hang and people watch with a drink, or eat Frito pies until you die. It's pretty hipster, but it fits right in with the current vibe downtown, and hipster sells right now. You should check it out.

The Barn Light is the best place in town to get a quality Latte in a chill atmosphere and take your time drinking it. The space is incredibly well designed and incorporates the rustic feel of an old barn with the modern architecture concrete and steel beams of the new building. The staff is always friendly with a quick, genuine smile. You can tell that every one of them cares about the well being of their guests. I've seen a lot of people call it hipster, which means...what exactly..? I don't consider myself hipster and find the atmosphere perfect for a rainy Eugene afternoon work session, the food is great, happy hour transitions you well for the eve with appetizers and a good pint for $3! On some nights the party is hopping there and if you're not looking for a meat market but rather a fun time and good drinks that's the place to be. Almost forgot, the place has foosball (pretty sweet table and tournament to boot), and a sweet shuffle board. Invite your friends and you can make it a good time any day of the week.

This bar is a breath of fresh aire, and a wonderful alternative to the sleazy, fist-pumping, pukey bars of campus. If you're a student, and value conversation, board games, good music, and classy drinks, the barn light is a good place to meet friends at night, then drink a coffee and do some reading the next morning. I've heard lots of people talk down to the younger hip vibe of the bar, but I really love that the place took time and values art and ambiance. A great place to bring out-of-towners to start the night in a new and improved downtown Eugene.

  • Christina C.

The Barn Light is the new gem in downtown Eugene. The staff are friendly and all are such experts. The bartenders are outrageously good and the drinks are not cheap, but reasonably priced for a bar that puts so much effort into what they do. I personally like to come in the afternoon when it's not so busy and have their excellent "green" oolong tea and a scone- the fig one is really good. There are a lot of special touches that make this place amazing, like outlets under the bench seating, vintage stoneware teacups, evening events like Game Night and really excellent staff. The food is simple but good, but keep in mind that TBL isn't a restaurant, and the coffee and bar drinks are really the star here. I wish there were more vegan options, but they do have a few. Meat eaters will love this place because of all the excellent meat sandwiches! As to the strange Yelp reviews that say "there are too many hipsters," TBL does attract a lot of 25-35 year olds that like long skirts and plaid shirts, but everyone is very friendly and there is no "hipster vibe" where people are snooty. Giving a business a bad review because you don't like the style of their patrons is pretty crappy. I would really highly recommend the place!

trying too hard to be cool. Trying to act like Portland. missed the mark. the interior felt too "produced," rather than organic. service was good. food was not a good value and bland. the tavern sandwich was basically ground beef that fell out of the small bun. not much flavor. tall boy selection was OK. Too many hipsters. pass.

Hipsters paradise. I saw at least 10 Macs. Cute midwestern feel, but very deliberate. Drinks were good, but a little spendy. Haven't tried their coffee yet...I liked it, but I'm not in love with it.

I like this place. Its a bit trendy and maybe hipster however I don't feel the clientele fit into a category; its always a mix of different people. They have a good selection of beer on tap, good coffee and happy hour! I am also a fan of the music choice. I will keep going back!

We were there late night on a Saturday. Loved the drinks, loved the decor, bartenders were nice. The only problem was that they started cleaning at about midnight, and the bar wreaked of cleaning product ... to the point we were forced to leave. I'd love to try it again in the hopes that the cleaning happens after your patrons have left.

Love the decor and ambiance, love the hours and availability of blessed coffee! The food is good but yes, too small and salads/soup would be a great addition. Staff were all friendly, welcoming, and excited about what they do...although I had a hard time knowing if waitstaff were circulating or if I should only order at the bar. Also, love the outlets under the seats for plugging in your laptop and the free wifi. I'll be back!

Liked it! Nice snacks, good drinks, attentive staff. Fun! I had the eggless egg salad sandwich, free bacon. My sweetie had the frito chili pie. Lucha libre drink was yummy, had 2! We will be back to try more.

Having lived in Eugene for 20 years, and moving away over 8 years ago, it brings me a lot of excitement to see a new business like The Barn Light open! It's great to see such a great team offer something fresh and genuine, while raising the bar and pioneering the evolution of craft beverage and culinary in Eugene. The overall experience from the moment i walked thru the doors until I left was impeccable and friendly. A great place for coffee in the morning and beers in the evening, it is a must visit every time I am in town. Cheers TBL and congrats.

Eugene needed a place like The Barn Light. This isn't a "college bar"; it's a place for graduate students and professionals to gather and enjoy a great, fairly-priced beverage. There are many great things about The Barn Light, including: - The atmosphere is top notch. It reminds me of the decor in a northwoods Wisconsin cabin I visited as a kid. You could spend an hour checking out all of the knick knacks on the walls. The bar and seating design is also excellent. This is the coolest bar in Eugene I've seen. - Foosball. Enough said. - Lots of outlets for laptops and a variety of seating. Whether you're grabbing a coffee and getting some work done or looking for a fun place to hang out after work, this place can accommodate anything. - While the attention is on the quality drink selection, the food is great, too. They serve an array of sandwiches. I've tried two and both tasted great. The Katy Kornetts are awesome as well.

Went there on a Friday evening. You have got to be kidding me. The drinks were tiny, horrible and horribly over priced. The food was ridiculous. Nothing looked good or sounded good. Thought we would play it safe with chips and dip. You get this little thing of onion dip with 6 ritz crackers, a handful of frites, and a handful of other misc. chips. Not good at all. Will never go back and will warn my friends not to go also. Other then that and it being freezing cold inside, and the bartenders not knowing what to do, the decor was pretty cool. Ended up going next door for some great food, drinks, personality, and atmosphere... Sorry Barn Light, never again

Totally mixed feelings! First time we went there (a Sunday night), we were blown away! The server was super; he recommended the best dishes (we ordered Spuds McKinley and Frito Pie, regular menu, with sides of potato salad and coleslaw), and he really hooked it up with the ingredients like cheese and sour cream and was really nice. The bacon was amazing. The whole experience blew our minds and we were hooked! We went there again last night (a Thursday), and with high expectations, were really disappointed. First, they had already switched to their late night menu even though it wasn't yet 8:30 pm (last time they didn't switch until 9 pm) so the food we wanted to try was already off the menu. My boyfriend asked for a red beer with PBR (same thing we got last time) and got charged extra for it, told that they never usually use PBR for red beers (even though it's on their menu?). The drink was almost half tomato juice so it was kind of disappointing. I ordered the frito pie because we loved that last time, and we asked for sour cream and were told they didn't have any. It was still alright, but not near as good as last time and the chili was luke warm. My friend ordered the Tavern sandwich, and it was a little of a let-down. Despite the disappointments, the staff was still very kind, although not as awesome as the last server we had. It was not busy at all both times. We will try it again and hopefully it will be closer to our first experience than our last!

When ever does a coffee shop or bar offer table service? I think rarely. This isn't a restaurant. Ahhhh... I really love this image of someone sitting down in The Barn Light, pouting, waiting to be approached by someone in a bistro apron and an iPad. Be real. ANYWAY, from my experience, the service here has far surpassed the standard for Eugene. Nearly everyone who has greeted me or served me here has been insanely friendly, which is quite rare in this town especially for a place everyone is labeling as "hipster," which I'm guessssing is intended in a prerogative sense? Yeah, they're all in this club, and you're not cool enough for them! Boring. And aside from the warm service, it's just actually one of the only coffee places in town that is actually cozy and conducive to studying/working/reading. There are outlets galore, good strong coffee, and other nerds around studying, to keep you on task. Maybe the decor is a little contrived, but whatever, it's still comfy and cute and at the very least the tackle boxes and duck thingies are something to talk about even if you think it's so offensively pretentious. It's not only one of the better lap-top-friendly places by day, but being downtown it's a good low-key place to meet up and sit down with friends to start your night, or a place to get wasted and close out, since it's truly a refreshing alternative to all the other downtown bars that we're all so sick of. I agree the cocktails/beer/wine are spendy, and the food portions are kind of a joke, and on the weekend nights it's just as crowded and obnoxious as anywhere else, but seriously--we kind of needed this place.

I think maybe serves the best caffe latte in town. Possibly. In any case, one of the first coffees I've had in the States that I felt could truly rival the Italian cappuccino. Is true that the staff can be a little sullen. Plenty of outlets for computer use. Wish they had more finely granulated sugar; the coarse stuff just doesn't dissolve so well.

This is my go-to place for a first date... casual enough to not feel "over the top" and set up so you can talk and not be crammed elbow to elbow. If you get a bench outside, it's prime. Yes, it's hipster but that's more so because of the crowd and not the staff. The staff is pretty rad.

I had a blast at karaoke (Thursday nights), but I was one of the oldest people there! I felt like I should have had a hipster disguise to blend in proper. So many of the song choices were ironic, and after a couple of hours the heavy irony was hard to bear. Still, there were a lot of friendly people and great voices. I loved that they had Good Life IPA on tap. The chili and cheese was tasty after four beers.

Yes this is a hipster bar. But they have trivia on Wednesdays and foosball and shuffleboard so I have to go once in awhile. They have kind of a weird menu (never seen frito pie outside of New Mexico) but what I've tried has been pretty good, although I haven't been in a while and I know it's changed. They had a decomposed salad with Brussels sprouts and other salads and veggies that was really nice. It's a good place to bring your Portland friends who badmouth Eugene, it's where I'd bring my Chicago friends for sure!

When this place opened I got all excited since the owners were from Lawrence, KS. The owners used to work/run my favorite coffee bar in Lawrence called the Bourgeois Pig. These guys brought that nice screw you attitude to Eugene. I always thought the bartenders at the Pig acted like I was lucky to have the honor of paying them for their service. The same can be said about Barn Light. After all, my martini was served in a juice glass with an eye roll instead of a smile. I'm too old now to find this kind of thing endearing. I haven't been back and won't go back, but it was nice to reminisce.

Bartender didn't make me feel welcome and she didn't let me play shuffle board because they were closing in a half hour. Free fooze ball is great but I guess if you're not a hipster-regular, they don't want your business.

I love this place...I seriously really really love this place. I stop in every time I'm in Eugene. The drinks are on the pricy side but it's worth it. I don't get bothered by random people, I hardly ever bump into anyone I know, they have foosball...what's not to like?

It's cute how people complain that this place is "hipster." It's downtown, what do you expect? Better than it being full of hippies. They make the best Bloody Mary's I have ever had in my life and their happy hour is pretty affordable. I nearly live at this place though, so I may be biased.

This place. I don't get it. It's trying REALLY hard to be something, but the vibe is so phony I feel myself turning into Holden Caulfield every time I walk through those doors. I like what a previous reviewer said--it's deliberate. And it's a turn off.

Enjoy.

Too many hipsters. pass.

I like this place. Its a bit trendy and maybe hipster however I don't feel the clientele fit into a category; its always a mix of different people. They have a good selection of beer on tap, good coffee and happy hour! I am also a fan of the music choice. I will keep going back!

Hipsters paradise. I saw at least 10 Macs. Cute midwestern feel, but very deliberate. Drinks were good, but a little spendy. Haven't tried their coffee yet...I liked it, but I'm not in love with it.

Bartender didn't make me feel welcome and she didn't let me play shuffle board because they were closing in a half hour. Free fooze ball is great but I guess if you're not a hipster-regular, they don't want your business.

Awesome New local pub, right next to Sizzle Pie on the corner of Willamette and Broadway. Very nice outside seating area.

I love this place...I seriously really really love this place. I stop in every time I'm in Eugene. The drinks are on the pricy side but it's worth it. I don't get bothered by random people, I hardly ever bump into anyone I know, they have foosball...what's not to like?

This place. I don't get it. It's trying REALLY hard to be something, but the vibe is so phony I feel myself turning into Holden Caulfield every time I walk through those doors. I like what a previous reviewer said--it's deliberate. And it's a turn off.

This place is funky and cute. It's nice to be able to hangout at a bar without TVs blaring sports or news, especially with co-workers or other associates. If I were hanging out with close friends and in this neighborhood, I would prefer to be at the Horsehead or Rogue.

Coffee is good enough, serving water avenue, food is mediocre at best and done in a very lazy and Luke warm way. Tmosphere is very hip, much more so than a Portland or Seattle underground coffee shop. Wouldn't go out of my way to go here unless you need good cappuccino

  • Bryce P.
