Bartenders are not especially friendly and the atmosphere is kinda stagnant. High priced but great location

So,,,, Yeah. I may not be the prettiest guy in town, but to the lovely ladies at the side bar I must look like one of the walkers in Walking Dead!!! Seriously, every time I come here I get ignored. Doesn't matter where I sit, hell tonight I tried three different locations. Nothing changed, they would walk by me like I'm covered in feces! Sorry to be so graphic, but this is crazy! Why do I come back, enjoy the abuse? It's close, occasional Video poker fix. Not much selection in this happening town. So my third stop was at the bar where the bartender is forced to acknowledge me. Such a different world than Sabia, where I walk in and the bartender is making my drink as I sit down. Go once a month at the most, so no I don't live there. Anyway. There you go ,, Come on down. I'm sure it's just me. I'm doing something bad I'm sure Or it's just they way it is ,,, Gotta stop dropping in here. If I want this abuse I'll text an ex wife.

I really want to love this bar, but today's visit was AWFUL. My husband and I went there for breakfast today before the noon Ducks game. As we sat at a booth we saw maybe 3 or 4 tables of people at 10. My husband said they needed to do more advertising to get people in, but I don't think any amount of advertising will help. The drinks were cheap and good: $3 Bloody Marys, Mimosas, and some other things. We ordered from a nice younger gal and she brought the drinks and took our breakfast order. After a minute or so she came back over to see if I had ordered the burrito or omelette. Um, the omelette. 25 min later I saw two plates in the pass through that looked like ours. Another 5 min later one had disappeared and I realized I could see a guy making a cheese omelette. 10 min later we get our food. As she left the table to go get silverware I notice my plate doesn't have the home fries so when I come back i mention that, she says she's sorry, she'll go see. While gone I discover that my cheese omelette has bacon instead of sausage. Normally I wouldn't care AT ALL but the cheese wasn't even melted and it tasted terrible! So when she comes back to say yes, I should have had home fries I tell her that I'm really not trying to be difficult but it was wrong. Again, she apologized and takes it to the kitchen. I see a different guy making an omelette and about 5 min later I got a plate of home fries. She says she's sorry, she really needs to write stuff down because she messed it all up. GEEZ, I thought it was the kitchen's fault but no. t Another 5 min and she brings over the omelette. This time it was sausage and the cheese was melted, Yay!!! However the eggs were hard and brown and the toast? The toast? Tasted like rancid burnt oil. Instead of being toasted the bread had been put on a hot grill will yucky oil. So, the 2 drinks were good but the food terrible. There was a guy who looked like a manager walking around who never stopped over at the table. So it seems like no one really cares. Bummer cause it's a cool place.

I am an admitted nacho snob; the nachos at Side Bar were ok, bur they put some kind of Chipotle sauce on them I didn't like and too much salsa. Next time, I'll know to order them the way I like them. The Cuban sandwich was really awesome, too bad the took it off the menu & apparently replaced with a ham & cheese sandwich. Cold beer and attentive friendly service. Good selection of local beers on tap.

Jesus this place is loud on game days. Not just regular sports fan loud, but deafening. I see why they have so many open tables on game day. They need to do something to dampen the noise. Good bar food though! They have some unique snacks, not just your average fries and nachos. I love the Green Bean Fries, which I could previously only find at TGIF, which we don't have in Eugene. Lot of booths with 'private' TVs. I wish the booths were a little more comfy though, and not all right next to the loud bar. I would prefer them in the back.

Over priced!! Fish & chips, 3 small pieces of fish and literally five pieces of potato. They cut them in a fancy twist. When the portion size of "chips"was questioned we were told that was a portion & anything more was considered an additional portion. Really! Potatoes no matter the shape are CHEAP! Is this place really that pretentious? Average taste combined with small portion= We'll drop our dollars elsewhere.

This was a nice place to get a drink and a bite with friends. It's not overly loud like many bars and there are plenty of TVs. Would recommend it for a night out or for a big game.

Great food and cold drinks- slow service. On Sunday mornings following home Ducks games!

Looking for a zero star option. Horrible horrible service, bad food and did I mention terrible service? I wanted to like it, good beer selection, lots of TVs. Waited an hour for food only to have the waiter come up and say he forgot what we ordered. After an HOUR. He didn't offer free drinks, or food, just wanted us to repeat the order. I've learned my lesson and will never return. Learn from my mistake and drive down the road to the excellent Cafe 440.

"Went there for beer and app. Server was inattentive, had to flag her down and we were sitting at the main bar. Ordered fish tacos WITH corn tortillas- when food arrived, I asked if they were corn tortillas- server said yes, took a bite- knew they were flour- spit them out. overall terrible service

The Side Bar deserves a re-review. I know it's not a huge bump, but i'll move mine up to 3.5 stars. I was in here during the NBA All Star game with a friend of mine. We came down to watch the game and grab some food and brews. Side Bar is great for a medium sized crowd. They have booths with ample seating, spots at the bar, and then they have some tables that sit in the middle of the floor separating the booths from the bar. We sat at the tables so we could have a good view of the game on the big screen. All was well, but the most frustrating part of this visit was that we had to watch the game with no sound at all. Don't get it twisted, I often watch football/basketball with no sound at all, it's certainly not needed. But when I go somewhere, or if I sit down to fully watch a game, I want to listen to the damn thing. We asked for the sound to be turned on, but they had a documentary on Bo Jackson on, and that had all the audio. I'm a fan of Bo Jackson, the man's a legend! But can we please listen/watch the All Star game? The food was decent, I ordered the Black and Bleu burger with fries. There was a heaping pile of bleu cheese on my burger, and a huge pile of fries served on the side. The fries are awesome may I add. Somewhat of a twisted/pealed spud that is much larger than your everyday average fry. The beer selection could be a little more, but they have Boneyard IPA on tap, and as long as they have that, i'll never bitch or complain. I actually had the chance to come here again last week with some co-workers and we all had a really good time in the Copa Room! ( A 5 star trip may I add) If you're not sure what the Copa Room is, it's a private room that you access 'through' the phone booth in the other side of the bar. It's a pretty cool concept, and it fit 12-14 of us just fine. When you rent out the private room, you get your own bar and bar tender. It has 1 large screen TV and a monitor so you can see who is trying to enter the Copa room when it's locked. The server we had was a great guy, really attentive, and did a good job of making fruity drinks for the fruity taste buds. (I dont have Fruity tastebuds, but my co-workers do. One guy described his "Ninja Turtle" as a Magical waterfall...I'll take another IPA please) I really do want to give this place 4 stars, but I can't say, "I'm a fan!" I can certainly say that it's, "A-OK", I think if service was a little more on par for those who are walk-ins, that they would have a lot more business than they currently do. Service is always the asterisk when coming here.

Appropriately named and pleasantly suprising. This is a great place to go if you are looking for a sports bar. TVs aren't as big as BWW, but the food and service are way better. For example, you can get a salad with mixed greens instead of a plate with iceberg lettuce and cheese. The rest of bar food is pretty good. I recommend the Philly if you are in the mood.

I came here because it was the only place we could find with the NFL game we were looking for. I quickly read the reviews and got a bit nervous because of all the bad ones. My experience here was actually great and my boyfriend and I will for sure be back! It's really nice inside, lots of seating, tons of TVs! Our server was so nice and recommended different beers on tap. We ordered the nachos as a snack while we watched the game and let me say....BEST nachos I've had in a LONG time! Had some type of melted delicious queso nacho cheese under a bunch of great toppings. If anything I'll be back for the nachos! We did have a really annoying man sitting alone right next to us that didn't wanna leave us alone... But I can definitely look past that hahah

My husband and I had originally had a horrible experience here about a year or so ago. We never went back until we moved close to them and decided to try one more time. They had made major improvements in their service. We were very impressed at the service and their happy hour food was great. The location is great with lots of seating and TVs and then they also do a special every day of the week. They also have a great tap list as we love craft beers. If you originally had a bad experience I would suggest giving it another try. I hope they stay on this path and continue to be a good place for us to go after work.

I go here a lot with one of my friends whenever I'm in Eugene. It's close to his house so it's super convenient. I can't say that the service is really all that great here but the environment and the food makes up for it. Every time I've gone here the food was great. I usually just get the burger with tator tots and a side salad with ranch. The burgers are pretty good. Definitely doesn't taste like a cheap bar burger. They have a pretty wide variety of beers on tap as well which I love. The environment. Is great. Lots of space at the bar and it's very open with lots of tv's. Defiantly a great place to go for dinner or to get the evening started.

A very clean bar. Lots of sports on TV. Private room is off the hook. Good apetizers. I recommend the sweet potato fries. Staff was very fun and friendly. The general seating area can be a bit noisy especially if there are some rabid fans watching some sporting event .... snore ..... haha

  • Michael P.

Perfect venue for watching sports with all the TVs and accommodating large parties as well as small. Unfortunately, the service has really gone south on game days, to include Sunday mornings with the NFL ticket.. The poor bartender was so stressed out that he had a hard time providing any decent customer service due to a lack of help for the morning games. Management needs to start staffing accordingly or we may have to take our business elsewhere. I hate to have to write this because we have loved this place since it opened. I hope this helps so we can bump you guys up to 3 or 4 stars soon.

I'm not impressed with the service here. I went here last week and was hoping to like it here considering one of my old school buddies were in there with his friends and my guy and I were meeting up with his friends. We felt ignored while the waitress/ bartender was talking to her regulars. She finally came over and took our order. We ordered a few aps and asked for no onions because I get migraines from raw onion. She comes back to our table and asked if green onions are ok!? We said no!! I get migraines from them especially if they are raw!! Well we got our artichoke dip with extra onion on top!!! Our friends who were with us said they were there the day before and had the same thing and it did not have raw onions on top! So I feel like she did that on purpose!! We mentioned to her that I have an allergy to the onions and she just brushed it off! We ended up scooping the top off, but still rude of her none the less! The rest of our food was good, I couldn't finish eating because I wasn't feeling well for other reasons not food related which bummed me out because my pulled pork slider was actually pretty good. My drink was good it was a vodka drink with coconut water. One of their special drinks on their menu. I would order it again. I just hope their servers are a little better next time so that a can maybe give a better review.

I'm a fan but it's not because of the food or service. Our server was hard to find at times but she was nice overall. The food was probably better than what I get at my local sports bar in Seattle. Huge nachos! The best part of Side Bar is the prices. Happy hour during all NFL games! $3 bloodys and wells, $2 drafts. All appetizers are also 1/2 off during the games. It's a great deal. They have TV's all over the place and you can even get your own if you sit in a booth! They even have slot machines and a pool table. Side Bar - move to Seattle so you can show these idiot bar owners how a sports bar should be run!

Great place for breakfast...Bloody Mary's were spicy and awesome. Breakfast burrito was pretty good and I would get that again, but add some bacon to it. Atmosphere is pretty quiet in the mornings as it's a sports bar (with tons of TV's) but the wait staff was attentive and good overall.

Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday with bottomless mimosas and other drink specials are great!

  • Bryce K.

The food is good... But the service is absolutely terrible. If it was a weekend, ok. Understandable. But when there's 10 people total in the bar, on a wednesday night, it shouldn't take 30 minutes (yes you read that right) to get a drink. If you're gonna get here bring a cooler with you - you're gonna need it.

Wife & I went in for karaoke. They advertise a 9 pm start, we got there at 8:45. No KJ, no set-up. The guy finally shows up around 9:15 to start setting, but in no hurry. He sets up, then sits down at a table of friends for a drink. At 9:45 we gave up & left. Went down the street to the Red Lion

Pros: Decent food and drinks, great TV views from everywhere Cons: Service (Or lack of) Went in and sat over 15 minutes before I went to the bar for a drink. Then at the bar, the bartender had his back to the public while he watched TV. Took about 3 minutes for him to actually help. After serving my own first drink, the waitress in my area walked by 5 or 6 times without saying a word? She even walked by looked at our drinks that were simply ice at that point then kept walking? The bad thing is, they have the staff to provide good service so it is not simply being shorthanded it is either lazy people or servers that simply don't care about what they are doing. I think the most important thing in a business like this is GREAT service. It will make up for alot of shortfalls in a business. I suggest checking your bank statement to assure it matches your ticket too.....

I was trying to like this place, I really was. This was the second time I've stopped in. The first was for St. Patty's Day. The second was last night, for Cinco de Mayo. St. Patty's Day was fun. It was crowded and the service was good. The food was tasty and the drinks were pretty strong too. Last night, um, not so much. They had the "Cinco de Mayo party" banner up outside but there was no party. Their specials were $3 margaritas that didn't consist of much/any tequila. $1.50 tacos. The tacos were oily. That was the party. My boyfriend had a new menu item, the blackened catfish sandwich. He said it was tasty. I do like their kettle fries. The food is meh. Depending on who's bartending probably determines the quality of the drinks. It's a nice enough bar for being in a strip mall. With the right people and enough booze, I can have fun anywhere.

This place has the BEST chicken nachos around. I've stopped by this place a couple times for a quick lunch since it's close to my work. I've never seen more than one bartender working and serving, but I didn't find it to be much of a problem since the place wasn't too packed. Never gotten drinks but it seems like they have decent tap selection. The first thing you notice when you walk in are all the large flat screen TVs scattered throughout the establishment, probably a pretty good place to watch a game. There are better places to get a drink but if you do stop by, get the chicken nachos!

Pro: young crowd, metropolitan design, tv everywhere. Drinks were good. Tons of selection. Friendly bartender and pretty waitress. Cons:over priced, $4 beer and $7 mix drinks. Too loud during karaoke night

The location is interesting to say the least. In a strip mall across from Burger King. The front of the bar is all glass painted black to keep out all natural light. On first glance the interior looks nice with booths, high top tables and backed bar stools. Dark paint and high ceilings round out the "man cave feel.' I was surprised to see that they make their own infused vodka-but its far from top or middle shelf stuff. After looking at the VERY limited menu, it seems as if the place is having a battle between a trendy over priced bistro and sports bar and honestly it does both poorly. While there I had the pleasure (or burden) of meeting the owner and I expressed my concern with the tap list. I then sat threw a 20min (seemingly drunken) rant about Rogue and Oakshire being a poor companies-he went on to mention that he was going to take the current Rogue tap and throw it down the street. Hmmm......not exactly a relaxing feel. Later while trying to watch the Dodger game-the nice low key back round music was replaced with Rap music from a radio no less (commercials and all) so loud that it made holding a conversation with the person sitting next to me nearly impossible. The place has no happy hour special-at least not yet. I don't recommend the place at all. If you are a beer SNOB you are much better off at cafe 440 down Coburg. Not to mention the owner their is really nice and the food is great, not just ok as with The Side Bar.

The food is good. Definitely try their fries. The service is awesome. It's great place to watch sports. They have a lot of TVs. The "patio" is great on a sunny day. Highly recommended, this place is under rated.

My first experience with the side bar was a weekday after work. This sports bar perhaps has the best atmosphere in Eugene. Televisions positioned everywhere....easy to watch the games or whatever from anywhere. Clientele is wonderful, service was super. The menu was adequete for a sports bar, not big, but I was told they would do what they could if I wanted something other than what was on the menu....service....service....service!!!! I had salmon fish & chips that were out of this world....salmon cooked just right and homemade fries were fantastic...........and you have to try their homemade potato chips...mmmm...My friends have also touted the quality of the food. Could be a few more beer choices for those that are beer connoissers, but still had ample selection. Nice wines and mixed drinks also. When I received the tour of the Copa room I was amazed at what a great idea they had. Just like the old rat pack days. Great idea for private parties, football games etc.....I will definitely be using it. The location is great, quick access from Beltline or I-105. The parking is a bit tight and the entrance and exit can be challenging at certain times of the day... The owner and staff were very personable and friendly, I would highly recommend this sports bar to anyone.

I love sports bars. The Side Bar is my new favorite sports bar. The service and the drinks are good the prices fair. The atmosphere is fun with the occasional live music and there always seems to be some kind of promotion going on. The food is your typical bar food but well prepared and pretty tasty. The people that go there are friendly and I've never had a bad experience. My only complaint might be that they seem to limit the sports that they can put up on the multiple flat panel screens. I like the layout also, you can sit at the bar or a booth and then there is the long tables with bar stools (which is what I prefer). The whole place is just very relaxed and comfortable for new customers as well as the regulars.

Don't go there. That's it. But read on if you must know why. We were a big party of older adults celebrating a birthday. Bad, bad choice. Although our server was friendly, she was inattentive to the point of being absent. After waiting 15 minutes or so to order, we went and tracked her down. Ordered our drinks and food. The drinks came in reasonable time, but there was a mixup and one person didn't get her drink...until the food came maybe 15 minutes later. The food was barely edible, uninteresting in choice, and lacked any variety. I only say barely edible because I was so hungry I just ate it. I ordered the pecan gardenburger. It had that warming lamp texture of reheated food that has been completely dried out, and the edges were like thick sandpaper. I didn't get a fork, I got cheese on my burger (which I specified I did NOT want on the order) but I never saw our server again that evening to ask her. It had no flavor, and was not good eatin' When I needed to leave (I couldn't stand another minute of being in the place because the smell of fried food was suffocating me), I had to go up to the bar to ask for my check. One of the bartenders ran around for 10 minutes looking for my waitress who was never found. I had to tell him what I ordered so I could pay and get outta there! It took at least another 15 minutes for this process. Oye!

Lots a nice tv's for football watching and they gladly put on the game we wanted to watch. The nachos were huge and loaded with lots of toppings, yum! The cheese "stix" should have been cooked longer and, unlike what the menu said, were served with ranch not marinara - huh?? My husband said his chicken ceasar wrap was just ok and that the fries were greasy, not in a good way. Our server was spotty but pleasant. It's a pretty standard sports bar, it gets the job done I guess.

  • Matt S.

This place has nice, if slightly generic decor -- HUGE TVs, a good number of booths -- but the service leaves a lot to be desired. The bar staff was cold and unwelcoming, and when the bartenders weren't helping customers, they were running around and complaining to each other. And it might be rude to say this, but there was something distinctly low-class about the whole place. Maybe it was the aggressively heterosexual male atmosphere and clientele that made the experience so uncomfortable, too -- then again, I don't know what I really expected from a bar in a strip mall next to a poker lounge.

Just came back from a Friday night doing some Karaoke, and had a beer and a great sandwich. Fantastic service, prices were good, and the sound system was lovely. Had a interesting experience with a drunk lady who sat down at our table for an hour, but you know, it's a bar, and silly things happen. Anyway, friday night Karaoke. Go. It's fun!

I go here mostly for the atmosphere. The windows are all blacked out so it always has a cool night feel. The drinks are just ok. I have usually had pretty good service. Free nachos on Sunday nights is a pretty cool idea they have.

Even after reading all the bad reviews my friends and I went here to celebrate my birthday AND watch the football game. We didnt get here early enough to get one of the cool booths with its own t.v. but did score the last table. This is an awesome place to watch sports; t.v.s galore! We found the servers to be friendly and quick. The beer was COLD and the food tasty. We'll all go back!

I have been trying to like this bar for quite some time now and keep giving them the benefit of the doubt due to the location and how much I like the bar itself ( setup, cleanliness, TV's ). But the staff is unbearable. One in particular I believeto be the manager Lisa. She is unneccesarily rude and not willing to perform her one function, make people happy and serve beer. Just asking her for a drink seems like a slap in the face to the women. I dont understand why you would work in customer service if servicing customers ruined your day like it seems to do to her. She is by far the worst but not much better can be said about the rest of the staff, just an overall unhappy atmosphere. And just to be known this is not a one time occurence or just my personal complaint I have many peers that used to frequent this location and have stopped all due to the staff.

  • Ashley M.

The salmon fish and chips is AMAZING. As someone said in another review, its does have a very "man-cave" feeling. Service was OK, she never once came back for drink refills and we waited almost a 1/2hour for our check. Will probably try again, lets hope its better this time.

Our first experience with the Side | Bar was on a weekday for lunch. We have since made the Side | Bar a weekly lunch and happy hour destination. The service is great and the sports bar atmosphere is among the best in Eugene. The menu is not large; however the quality has been consistent. The appetizer menu is an excellent intro to trying out the food. The location is my only criticism in that it is hard to see from Coburg road and parking can be a bit awkward. If they continue to do what they're doing then the Side | Bar will evolve into a "go-to" sports bar in Eugene.
