Warm Eugene summer evenings, sitting out on the back deck, a pint of Hammerhead, and a veggie burger with fries, (with of course extra vinegar). (College) life really doesn't get much better than this.

We love the cajun tots. I ordered the smoked mozzerella sandwich. I won't get it again. It had gouda on it and I don't like gouda. Salad on side was good. Not too impressed with their pizza bread.

Love this spot...always hit it up when in Eugene. Love the micro brews and the firm burger but the specials are always good too. This is a very cozy spot and always reminds me of what Eugene is supposed to be and not all the corporate chains that have taken over this beautiful city

I always want to like McMenamins more. i want the food to be fantastic pub food, I want the service to be friendly and attentive. It seems like we are always halfway there. I liked the tatertots we got as an appetizer, and thought my burger was ok though egg on a burger should not have a solid cooked yolk, The side salad was tasty, particularly with the pickled onions. My partners Pizza looked disappointingly like stouffers frozen french bread pizza. My beer was ok, but i dont think it really did come from a nitro pour. if it did, it had sat for a while until they brought it to me. We'll go again and give it another try, but I'd say it was just ok.

Went here a couple of days ago with two vegans. We walked in and no one acknowledged us, although the bartender looked at us a few times. We finally got seated. The menu changed recently and my husband and his mother were trying to figure out what was vegan. They were given a menu for special diets. They still had questions and the waiter made comments about how it was the end of his shift. He was unhelpful and acted annoyed and unwilling to investigate simple things like which salad dressings were vegan. We came in for happy hour , so it was late. Our waiter took it upon himself to let us know that the restaurant closed 15 minutes before while we were chatting. I was taken aback, as we had waited a good amount of time to be seated and then to even have him come to our table.

We stopped here on our passport exhibition for just drinks since we had lunch at North bank. I love the neighborhood feel to the place, and all the funky murals, wood carvings, and painted fire extinguishers nearby too. The outside was decorated with flowers and fun, but we choose to eat in one of the smaller dining rooms inside the house. We ordered chai teas. They came out way too hot which was a little alarming, but overall, it was like going to Starbucks but with better Chai and a much better place to hang your hat and chill. Fun place with a nice homey feel. I would recommend going to this place for sure.

I've been going here more often recently. I think it's best well after the dinner crowd is gone. A suitable location for loitering with a pint that's within easy walking distance of downtown or campus-area homes. Their cajunized tots are the highlight of the appetizer menu, and a basket is a good way to have a quick snack with a few friends. I hardly ever go into the main menu categories because I haven't been in the mood for a burger very often recently. This location brews McMenamins beers for the rest of their facilities in the Eugene area, and the brewers are pretty skilled. The regular beers aren't the best in town, but there is sometimes one really cool option on the board. (This week it was a jalapeno wheat beer that was a standout among pepper beers--it tasted very much like peppers without the spice) Eugene Growler Club: $10.50 gets your half gallon of beer--one of Eugene's better values.

I have a love hate relationship with this place. Love the atmosphere, food, beers, just about everything except the service. Absolutly horrible. I try so hard to put my (very low) standards of what should be the basis of a server, yet still always leave dissapointed.

We had lunch here today and it was a terrible experience. The service was absolutely horrible. We were never told how long our food would take even though the staff knew there were issues in the kitchen. It took over an hour to get our food. The manager was working in the kitchen and it took a huge effort to get him to speak with me about the service issues. In the end he finally gave us a slight discount but we we were late to our next event and he hardly seemed to feel bad. The food was fine but the whole experience was brought down by such horrible horrible service!

food is alright if you go during the day. whoever cooks days cares more...tater tots, turkey sandwich...it's all just fine. that's about all I can that's positive about this hellhole. I have NEVER had worse service (well, maybe at another mcmenimans) "we dont do togo orders" "your salad will be at least an hour, do you even want it?". I hear the notoriously bad service is because all employees are crosstrained in all parts of restaurant. so your server is also dishwashing and made the soup this morning....not a great business plan. there is no consistancy. but people keep flocking to this place I guess because they have beer? and they're open late.

I do like McMenamin's, and this is no exception. The atmosphere is way laid back and groovy, the staff amusing. I love the outdoor seating area out back. It's often full so you share a seat with strangers. Mixed drinks are strong, beer flows freely and food is good. I do like that they have a great grilled cheese at this location that they let you order off the kids menu. Also, you can buy jars of beer to take home..woot woot!

  • Mike S.

Not bad, decent food and wait staff, always kind if awkward to be seated in the dining room that have bathrooms only a few feet away from where you're eating. I could tell who flushed and washed their hands we were so close.

A neighborhood favorite. Standard, simple pub fare...including tater tots and fresh cut fries. Great, simple burgers (I reccomend the Wilbur- Comes with bacon and an egg.) Delicious, hand-crafted beers (Hammerhead is a fantastic amber ale) and great hard cider. Art and general ambiance is dark and whimsical with surprises lurking in secret corners waiting to be spotted. Your server handing you that hummus platter very well could be a member of The Cherry Poppin Daddies.

i've only been here once for dinner. everyone i went with was in it for the burgers, but i was feeling kind of down, so i went for the soup, salad and garlic bread combo. i'm so glad i did because the corned beef & cabbage soup was great! the salad was fresh and the garlic bread was so garlicky. so garlicky that i loved it. i've heard a lot of complaints about the service here, but i suppose that after living in chicago and south florida i must be used to rude waiters and slow delivery. i still want to try a burger, and i have yet to check out 19th street so i guess i have some eating to do.

This is a great place to dine and/or drink. Great selection of crafted beers, food is wonderful fill-you-up bar style with a little more flare on some dishes. Their burgers are excellent (local raised, grain fed cattle I'm told). Night atmosphere is warm and fun. Their back patio is great! Probably the only complaint (which is hardly a complaint, more of an opinionated suggestion) is I wish their beers were a bit colder, at least for some of the lighter varieties. Stouts, porters and the like are perfect temp.

  • Mark B.

The brew is great. The food is great. I've been here too many times to count and I've never had a bad experience. Smiling faces surround me throughout each visit. My wife is treated like a lady here. This place always holds a great atmosphere, especially when it's warm enough to sit on the deck. Don't forget your sunscreen if you come on a summer's day! You may not want to leave for a long time. Clink!

Pita and hummus plate=divine. Homemade veggie burger is AMAZING. Beer is amazing as well. They have a happy hour menu that is great too, for low-cost eating out. I recommend the cajun tots! YES this place is cute and it's worth it.

Great big fellow who was my server with a dry humor. Rolled in here on Sunday night pass 9 pm. Being in Eugene on a Sunday night you are very limited to sit down food. Was thrilled to see Tat o Tots on the menu :), but was not so pleased with my Philly Cheesesteak . Why did I order that in Eugene of all places? Bar food to sum it up best. Should of had the pasta.

  • Heather M.

The only reason I am giving this 3-stars is because the service was not so great at all. We went for lunch, sat on the patio...great patio I might add. The IPA was good although I have had better. The hamburgers and fries were great (very good bread). The service was slow and they appeared to be understaffed. Overall, I would return for the beer and food.

  • Anderson K.

The only good thing about this place was the company that came with me. Never again.

    (1)
  • Lothar M.

Although it is a nice place, the "cool" waiters are incredibly pretentious (although you work in a cool pub, you are still just a waiter dude!). I was far from impressed with the food. McMenamins has the best burgers? Yeah right!

High Street Cafe is yet another in the McMenamin's chain. McMenamin's restaurants and brewpubs are all unique in design and atmostphere, but they serve the same beers and very similar menus. High Street's beers are perfectly adequate, and some are quite good. The standard menu is lackluster and limited. Some people swear by the burgers but I've always been disappointed--thin, dry, and tasteless burgers accompanied by limp, greasy fries is not my idea of burger heaven. The House Special steak sandwich is pretty good. Tater Tots are a popular option in lieu of the soggy fries, and they will "cajunize" them (whatever that means) for an extra four bits. High Street runs regular (daily and weekly) lunch specials, however, and this is where they tend to shine. I've rarely been disappointed by one of the specials, and a few times I've been postively delighted. Other pros include a cozy bar inside, and plenty of outdoor (front and back) patio seating. It's a nice place to spend an afternoon over a pitcher of beer, but not a prime destination.

    (2)
  • Jeff S.

High Street is one of my all time favorite casual dining experiences in Eugene. The fries come in huge platters, and are quite delicious. The burgers are always grilled to perfection, and they have great microbrews on tap. The menu is a bit limited if you had something other than a burger in mind. Then again, I don't know why you would go to High Street if you were hungry, but didn't want a burger or something similar. The atmosphere is great, and their back patio is very cool.

    (4)
  • Rick T.

It's a McMenamins, 'nuff said! I usually start with the fries and then Dungeon Burger and a couple pints of Ruby beer. Outstanding flavors and a nice back patio. No dogs though and they are really uptight about it.

  • Tiffany S.

This is my favorite spot to grab lunch or dinner in Eugene! I love the food (best tater tots!) and the outdoor seating is a lot of fun when it's sunny. If I could afford it, I would eat there every night!

  • Rebecca M.

This is my favorite McMenamins out of all the ones I have ever visited. The staff is friendly and they don't rush you at all. It's almost European in the way they conduct business in that regard. When I was a broke college kid I would come in and order the grilled cheese ($4.25) off the kids menu and a refillable soda and sit in the back for literally hours getting free refills as I studied. Even though my tab was like 6 bucks for taking a table for hours the staff never acted annoyed and were nothing but kind. In fact I really felt welcomed and at home, which to a college kid is kind of priceless. Food wise it's the same as other McM. Locations. My go to orders include- -The hammerhead veggie burger (they have great mustard too which in itself merits at least one star in my eyes) -cajon tots (because why not) -idk why but I love that the house salad has pickled onions lol. So tasty and unique -beer. Returning to Eugene and I just can't wait to go back here :).

After one bad experience here, I was contacted by McMenamins staff who encouraged me to give them another try, which I did. On my second round I found it to be a much more pleasurable experience! The drinks were good- I got a mojito- and the tater tots were pretty darn good, too. This redeemed McMenamins in my book, so I have no problem leaving a better review than I did after the first time around. Kudos for good customer service!

Always a great choice. I've eaten here for years with my pops, and now frequent the spot to enjoy some great food and brew with my lady, as well. The servers have always been kind, although some more quiet than others, they're just regular people. It can be a demanding job, and I respect that. Great service, food & brew, and it'll always be one of my favorite Eugene joints.

Not really happy. We stopped in for lunch on a weekday, and it was very quiet. We walked around and stood around for several minutes before the lone server appeared from wherever. He wasn't very happy to seat us, wasn't interested in taking our order, and spent most of his time while we were there talking to the bartender very loudly and inappropriately. I was glad my children weren't with me as I heard several swear words yelled from the area of the bar by our server- more than once. We couldn't wait to leave. Management, have a talk with this staff, they need to know that customers can hear everything. UPDATE McMenamins' management was quick to send a us a message regarding our visit and to apologize. Thank you so much!

I wouldn't consider McMenamins a typical "chain" restaurant. While each location offers some similar items (beer, wine, tots, etc.), they do a great job at offering speciality items, too! For instance, at the Bagdad I enjoyed a delicious Ruben, and at High Street they did not serve the Ruben, but instead they offer the amazing "Terminator Sausage" sandwich. If you love sauerkraut as much as I do, you need to order this sandwich! The sandwich had great flavor, it was filling, and it paired greatly with their infamous cajun tots. (I also learned that McMenamins makes their own dijon mustard!) I ordered a wine flight for the first time, and the selection exceeded my expectations! McMenamins makes a fine Pinot Gris-- who knew? The location itself was quaint. We sat inside because it was raining outside; the fireplace was out-of-order, so hopefully they get that fixed soon! I would visit here again in the summer to sit in the patio area-- it looked nice!

Usually I'm happy with the service here, but last night my husband & I had the worst service we've ever had anywhere. We waited nearly an hour for our food, while people who arrived after us received their drinks & appetizers promptly. Our drinks took way too long to arrive, we were rarely checked on, & my husband had to go to the bar twice to find assistance (once to inquire about our food, once to get to-go boxes because our waiter forgot). What would have normally been an hour long meal tops with our 7 month old, took over 2 hours. By the time we got our food, we barely ate because we (& our baby) were so ready to leave. To top it off, as I was leaving, I overheard the bartender complaining about my husband loudly to a group of people, possibly co-workers. It's tough to explain, but it felt as though we were being discriminated against. People around us were being waited on just fine & we were totally ignored. It was bizarre.

Super friendly bartenders and servers. This is great if you want to stay awhile and very low key but inviting environment. Go here!

I haven't gotten my food yet, so this review isn't about the food. I have been here for an hour though, without so much as an appetizer being served. How long does it take to scoop some hummus out of the container? It's not busy, but the servers don't seem to want to be here. We had to get up and tell them we were ready to order after sitting for 20 minutes. Another table that showed up after us got their food, which they tried to serve us because they couldn't get the table numbers right. Not coming to this location ever again.

McMenamins has many great places. The menu is OK and the food is as expected. I want more than just what I expect. McMenamins please make me love the food and service, please!!! I still go here for the nice funky McMenamins place and the vibe. McMenamins could be better.

Great ambiance and delicious food. Particularly the tots and the burgers. In addition, the beers are all great, waiters are very nice, and pricing is reasonable. I highly recommend!

I came during happy hour and ordered the burger with the tator tots. The burger was delicious and the tots were some of the best I've ever had, and it was a very large portion for the small price of $2.50. Can't beat that. My friend ordered some pasta that had pine nuts, which was pretty bland.

Great food and service. Casey, Jarron, and everyone else are awesome. I love hanging out by their fire pit in the back.

This place is great. The micro-brews we sampled were all wonderful and we would have been pleased drinking any of them. Usually, with those beer samplers you can get at microbreweries, there are some we like and some we don't, but we really liked all of the ones here at High Street. The House Special Steak Sandwich was great, too, with lots of meat, not too many onions to distract from the taste, and a wonderful hard crust type bun (which may have been a "pretzel dough bun"). The place is a converted home and a little funky which is a hallmark of all McMenamin properties. We enjoyed the setting, the food and the beer making it an all around great experience.

Off the plane I came, trudging the muddled steps of someone who had been up since 8 a.m. east coast time and had spent a good majority of his time during a Denver layover making his way across the expanse of the United terminal there. But it was all worth it when my friend Jessie took me here directly from the airport. Let's skip the sticker shock, and the part where I couldn't believe a total bill of food and beers came to less than $20. No, let's talk tots. Because these things are amazing. Eugenians, if that's what you call yourselves, I don't know if you understand how you good you have it with these things. It's as if bar gods the world over came together to create the perfect bar snack food and delivered it straight to the McMenamin's kitchen staff. We had the cajun version. Upon first inspection, I would have expected to only have downed half of these bad boys. But, troopers that we are, we made our way through the whole basket. The rest of this particular pub is nice and relaxing, the kind of place I wouldn't mind hanging out at. It's got a very dark vibe (or it was 1 a.m.), wood seating and nice little bar area behind the main food-serving area. All-in-all, a must-visit next time I'm back in the Eug.

After DLW and I met some friends on a Friday evening, we took our leave rather early and without having had dinner. Since we were in the neighborhood and I had not been here, we stopped in for a bite and a libation. We could have opted to sit in front or on the back patio, but we took a window seat inside. The waiter got us our drinks promptly and warned us that it would be about 30 minutes before the food came out. Fortunately we had no place to be, so we just enjoyed the ambience. It's a hangout to be sure, an old house with multiple levels inside and out. I'm sure the waiters are pretty fit from climbing all of those stairs. Burgers and tots are what they are known for, and DLW went for that. She was happy with the results, especially the perfectly crisp tots. I went for a jumbo dog, just because, and well, it was a good dog, They brew their beer for the Eugene locations here, and I have been known to quaff a malt beverage or two. I tried Hammerhead, their flagship brew, a pale ale with a dark copper color and more malt flavor than I expected. The PNW is IPA territory, however, so their version needs to be good. It is, but it's hard to make an IPA I don't like, so take my judgment with a grain of yeast. All of the weirdness of Eugene is visited here. I could see it gets pretty crazy on Saturdays with UO students camped out at the bar. This location hosts Beer Week, and the other related spots in town have musical acts. It's a winning formula. Maybe it's better that I'm not much of a night person anymore. This place could be dangerous for me.

    (3)
  • Tim H.

This review is for their bar. The location is in an old house and the beer is brewed in the basement (for this and one other McMenamins location). I tried the IPA (no shock there if you've ever read my reviews) and it was good, though not great. The barman was very entertaining and the appetizer we had was pretty good too. The ambiance, although eclectic, was great too. Wonder what their food is like???

Nice cool patio in the late afternoon. Tasty cheeseburger for $6.00 during happy hour (3-6). The best strawberry lemonade I've tasted - made with fresh strawberries!

Very dirty. It wasn't very busy and the waiter was walking around like a chicken with no head. After waiting for 45 minutes for my food I walked out.

The usual McMenamins food and beers, in an old converted house that used to be a coffee house, if I remember correctly. Expect generally poor service, average beers and food. Pretty much the standard McMenamins formula.

I try to go to every McMenamin's I can, because the great locations they find and fix up. Whether it's a old school, chapel or country estate; this place situated in downtown Eugene is no different. What you find is big craftman style home in a residential neighborhood with a beer garden and firepit in back and a english style pub inside. As everyone says the cajunized tater tots are a must and the burgers are just fine. Was impressed with great service and travel advice from our waiter. I particularly like the pointer to get a Rubinator (half ruby ale/terminator stout). The downright homie atmosphere made my summertime lunch in Eugene a pleasant one.

    (4)

I have received the worst service experience here. Great food, as always for McMenamins, but service is slow. There shouldn't be a reason for slow service when business is slow, but that's what I have experienced here at High Street.

It's a McMenamins, 'nuff said! I usually start with the fries and then Dungeon Burger and a couple pints of Ruby beer. Outstanding flavors and a nice back patio. No dogs though and they are really uptight about it.

This is my favorite spot to grab lunch or dinner in Eugene! I love the food (best tater tots!) and the outdoor seating is a lot of fun when it's sunny. If I could afford it, I would eat there every night!

I really wanted to like this place knowing that it has famous Oregon roots and brewing tradition for 20+ years. However, I was not impressed by the brews. I shared a sampler of everything on the chalkboard and found most of the beers were weak and watery. Sure they are drinkable, but I felt they paled in comparison to some of the other quality craft brewers in the Northwest that use generous amounts of hops and good quality ingredients. The waiter said the brew recipes are not necessarily consistent at all McMenamins locations, as the brewers use them as "guidelines". That alone is kinda cool and allows for some creativity between the locations. The best brews are their trademarked brews - Copper Mountain, Terminator Stout, Hammerhead Ale, and Ruby Ale. I also thought the High Street location was a cool building with a good vibe inside.

Building decor, 5 stars........beer and food a solid 4 stars. I had an ISA( India session ale) and a sandwich that was grilled Canadian bacon, lettuce, tomato on a French roll, had a side salad with raspberry vinaigrette, a great salad dressing! I asked the waiter if it was house made, and he said yes....sandwich was flavorful, not really heavy or greasy. I've never been disappointed at a McM's, and as always this particular one delivers

Really great, friendly, awesome staff. Beer is good too. Happy hour puts everything in a nice price range. The veggie burger is pretty good and the horseradish can give it a nice kick. This is a great place to come and hang out late at night. Decent tunes on the radio, awesome patio out back with a nice fire going. Good selection of beer, or PBR if you are feeling cheap.

Delicious food! I had the "stuffed burger", it was fantastic... with Cajun tots & wetted it down with a rubenator (recommend this one to all). Setting was cozy. They have outdoor & indoor seating - fire pits in both. I payed $30 for two people.

REALLY impressed. Food, drinks, and service were all a solid 5 stars. Details: (1) Food: I got the 'Triple Play': soup, salad, & bread. This is a pretty basic menu option, & I was simply hoping it would be 'good.' I was not expecting to have the best bowl of clam chowder I have ever had: heavy on the clams & spices, light on the soup base. (2) Drinks: Excellent hand-crafted beverages. (3) Service: The waiter was truly excellent. Detail oriented, gave his honest opinion, and took the time and energy to look up and make a complicated drink. Definitely worth it :) !

My wife and I were in Eugene for Thanksgiving and what did we do? We saw this as a perfect opportunity to knock out more stamps on our McMenamins Passport! All the Eugene McMenamins beer is brewed at the High Street location. It's an old house on the outskirts of the University. They have a nice patio area with fireplace that is probably really nice on a cool summer night. I had their Communication Breakdown burger. It has sauteed mushrooms, onions, and green bell pepper (obviously the breakdown is the toppings are for a cheese steak!). Other items ordered included the pulled pork sandwich, the sausage sandwich, and the turkey sandwich. It all received pretty good ratings. Also enjoyed the beer sampler tray. Since I had just come from North Bank, the waiter allowed me to swap out that same beer for one I didn't have, which was much appreciated. The three ladies in our group all tried the wine samplers and seemed to like them very much to their surprise. None of us had had any McMenamins wine. All in all, it was a great time. Good service, good beer, good food.

The food here is very good, & of course their famous Cajun tots are the best! But by far my favorite part of High Street is the outdoor seating area with the fire pit! I went there one recent Sunday afternoon on a beautiful sunny day & my server lit the fire pit for me even though I was the only person out there at the time. It was a bit of a cool day even with the sun out but that fire pit hit the spot while I had a couple beers, some tots, & read the Sunday paper. The people who work here are super nice! It's a nice casual & laid back atmosphere & their house brewed beer is very good & my server let me sample one of their house ales before I made my choice. They're very knowledgeable about not only the beers they brew there but all beers which makes for great suggestions based on what you tell them you like or what you're in the mood for. I highly recommend this specific McMenamins!!!

Charming little restaurant. Their front patio is wonderful if the weather is right. Have a full bar. Great happy hour. Decent prices. Great food. Good service. Would come back in a heartbeat.

The food was alright but the prices were great. We made in for night happy hour and got a flight for 6.75 and yummy tater tots for $2. The service was at best mediocre. Would recommend if you can make happy hour other than that it's over priced and not that tasty.

    (3)
  • Lori G.

We stopped here for happy hour this past weekend for a beer and tots. Despite the scorching temps, we moved to an outside table on their back porch. There's nothing like a cold Ruby on a hot day! + $3.50 Happy hour pints + $2.50 Cajun tots + Large back patio/porch + Friendly server - Service was very slow and our bill was incorrect...twice This was our first time to this McMenamins location. We will keep them in our happy hour rotation, but we're beginning to realize service is sort of shoddy at all three.

McMenamins is a Eugene staple with at least 3 locations. The High Street spot is nice for its outdoor firepits and it's a transformed house, so the inside feels, well...homey, as it should! The Willamette river location is pretty when the weather is nice, but it's a little out of town. There's another on Agate with a few pool tables and dart boards. My favorite thing about Mcmenamin's is that they have a great happy hour deal. I recommend the cajun tots and if you're drinking, the Ruby is good. I think it might be a mix of two other beers? Anyhow, food's decent, not awesome, but the atmosphere is good and if you have a mixed-age group, its a good place to go.

  • Brett F.

I eat and drink here all the time. The beef they use is I think the reason why I like their burgers so much. That and for someone who doesn't like super hoppy beers they always have at least 2 or 3 beers that I really like that go really great with their food. My wife loves their cocktails. They bring in some really nice liqours. Oh and also the High St Pasta is good too! Don't expect a fast paced environment.

This one isn't nearly as good as the other ones in town. Food is just "okay" service is terrible. Had to wait 40 minutes for our food after ordering and then my order was done completely wrong. Told our waiter politely and there was no apology and it took more than 20 minutes to fix the problem. Overall a very poor experience. We have had great experiences at the other locations, but we won't be going back to this one.

  • Kitt J.

If you know anything about McMenamins, then you can already guess what most reviews will/should say. I don't think it's the best or worst microbrew/service/ambiance/food around, but it's local(ish), so that's great. It's definitely worth trying if you enjoy pub fare and microbrew in the general sense. I'd recommend the Ruby, as far as drinks go. (And don't criticize my review for being relatively mundane. It's meta-commentary!)

  • Walker P.

I have been here three or four times. They have a pretty good happy hour deal, that's what keeps me coming back. The beer is okay, its got that craft brewed on sight thing going on or something. Its not amazing though i wouldn't go there just for the beer. It seems like a lower key pyramid or something. I also think they make their own liquor or something? I'm not too sure it doesn't seem to have a real identity, o here's another great analogy, a 21+ chili's or something cheesy and consistent. You know what you are getting into. The food has been good but again not amazing i mean i will probably go back here and sit on their tiny little porch and have some beers when friends visit and tell them we are going to a small "brewery". Their wine flight was rather hefty too, good for the price but not that amazing. Never had to many problems with the service but it has been slow. I guess that doesn't bother me too much, I'm not usually in a rush when I'm eating out. So don't turn your nose up, nor pretend you are above this place and you will have a fine time and drink some okay beer (they surprisingly have more than just IPA's!) eat some salty previously frozen delicious tots and a burger. And know its going to be exactly the same as last time. Or just go to Elysian if you want a similarly plain experience.

I love McMenamin's, but I'm not as big of a fan of this one as I am the one by the river. It's still good, but my cheesesteak was a tad stringy. The tots and drinks were as always, fantastic.

I got the Smoke on the Water Burger with sauteed mushrooms and Cajun tater tots. Tots - Tots were quite crispy and soft inside which I absolutely love! All they did for the Cajun flavoring was sprinkle on some spices but it did the job so I can't complain. Just wanted to state the fact. Burger - I got my burger Medium done and it came out great. The combination of breaded jalapenos and sauteed mushrooms created a great balance of flavor and texture. I also enjoyed the burger bun. It was just crispy enough on the top and bottom making it so moist when I bit into it with all the flavors oozing from the mushrooms, cheese and sauce. Atmosphere - From what I hear, the one on High Street is a lot more intimate than the one by the UO campus. I enjoyed the decor and nice wood settings. I also love the outside seating area with a view of the Willamette! Staff - I went for lunch so I don't know if seating is different for dinner but it was "seat yourself" when we walked in. I'm not a fan of this for "Sit-down" places just the fact that the staff can't distinguish most of the time if you've already ordered or not. With that said, we didn't want to take the chance and wait so we flagged down a waitress 5 minutes after sitting. Very friendly and attentive staff. Price - It came out to about 14ish before tip so it wasn't too bad but I think adding the sauteed mushrooms bumped the price so its not terribly for how well the burger was made. Overall - Would definitely come back and recommend to others when they come visit.

Wow, I had never been to this McMenamins before, but often passed by it thinking it looked like a cool place to eat, so finally yesterday I went with my friend and her 6 week old baby in tow. We sat outside in the back on a picnic table at first and that's where things started going wrong. We were greeted (sorta) by our waiter who threw down coasters and seemed quite pissed as he rattled off the specials. He left and we decided to move to a more private spot on the deck in case the baby needed to be fed. We met a very nice (not our) waiter there and kudos to him for being cool, but our waiter most certainly was not. He was gruff and rude the whole time. I've never recieved service where I felt that if the server could, they would take a belt sander to my face! Maybe I'm exaggerating, but I really feel like he hated us the moment he saw us, and the feeling only got stronger as time went on...maybe he hates babies? Anyway, our food finally came out and after we told our server we didn't need anything else he briskly walked away yelling something like "I'm out of this bitch!" in a Dave Chappelle esque voice and never returned to give us our check. I'm not sure if you always have to go to the bar to pay, but that's what we did. Tracked our server down and handed our payment to him at the bar. It's too bad that our server seemed to be having some sort of bout with Tourettes Syndrome, because my burger and salad was quite tasty and the outside area was nice. Poorly done sir.

McMenamins is the greatest. The house beers. The house atmosphere. High street is definitely one of my favorite spots to take a date; it's intimate, it's quaint, and reasonably priced. Never been let down here, ever.

I like all of the McMenamin's locations in Eugene, but since I used to live down the street from High Street, I probably patronize(d) this one the most frequently. It's a great go-to for lunch, a study session with a friend, or happy hour - especially a nice day on their expansive back patio. The menu here is slightly different from the other McM's joints in town, but by and large you'll always be able to find something you like. When in doubt, get the cajun tater tots, especially during happy hour. (Just don't think about how bad they are for you.) Like the 19th Street location, the service here is spotty at best, hence the four stars instead of five. Just don't go here when you're in a big hurry, and you'll be fine.

Eugene is not a great place to be hungry at 11 o'clock on a Friday night. Most spots are dead cold by 9:30, ten if you're lucky. We needed burgers, and we needed them tonight. Thank god we remembered High St. was still kicking it live in the Midtown neighborhood. 15 minutes after calling it in at 10:30 on a Friday night there were two tasty burgers ready for takeout. The grilled mushroomed Dungeon and the fried egged Wilbur hit the spot for us. I'm not saying these are the best burgers on the planet or even the best in Eugene but latenight style gets much respect in my household. Getting there a few minutes early gave me a chance to mosey on up to the comfortable little bar and check out any new brews being crafted of late. Unlike a lot of McMenamins spots this is an onsight brewery with capable hands crafting a few special beers on occasion. I didn't recognize the EVA as a regular McBeer so I asked and was told it was a special strong ale. I liked the sound of that and liked the beer even more. Deep, rich and malty this was a fine beer indeed. Cheers to the brewer and to High Street for staying up so late.

The usual McMenamins food and beers, in an old converted house that used to be a coffee house, if I remember correctly. Expect generally poor service, average beers and food. Pretty much the standard McMenamins formula.

I came during happy hour and ordered the burger with the tator tots. The burger was delicious and the tots were some of the best I've ever had, and it was a very large portion for the small price of $2.50. Can't beat that.

Good mixed drinks, great burgers, delish sweet potatoes fries, cajun tater tots and great happy hour specials. Yum.

Damn. Inflation is a wicked wench. $5 for the happy hour burger? $2.50 for the cajun tots? What happened? This place used to be a steal, not so much anymore.

I love McMenamin's, but I'm not as big of a fan of this one as I am the one by the river. It's still good, but my cheesesteak was a tad stringy. The tots and drinks were as always, fantastic.
