Been going here off and on for years, although the last couple years have become a series of disappointments. The restaurant is never open when we stop by during normal evening meal hours, despite the indications online that the place should be open. Out of the last 4 attempts we've only been successful once. The staff has gone from friendly to increasingly disinterested and even quarrelsome. The quality of the food has gotten steadily worse and worse. Last time the chicken tasted like semi-dry leather, and even the macaroni salad wasn't up to it's usual snuff. A formally five star favorite fallen so far.

One my my son and my faves, not sure why bad reviews...I haven't been there in a while though due to their hours being low, but guess what...I think it is hard to compete with Hawaiian time having so many locations. I hope to check it out again soon. FYI for anyone wanting to check it out, call first and they are not open weekends. If you love them and want to keep them going, send your friends/bring your friends.

I only wish they were in a better location (like down the street from me instead of Hawaiian Time...), and that they didn't close to work on their other business like they do.... Because there's nothing more sad to this kitty than getting a hankerin' for some Hodgepodge goodness and trekking all the way out W. 11th (when you're a Ferry Street Bridger) only to find that they are closed that week. :( Aside from that whole bidness... Hodgepodge is #2 on my top five favorite places to grab some grub in Eugene. Cafe Yumm! is Numero Uno. Then HodgePodge... I especially love the Chili. And the Indonesian Peanut Salad. And the Naked Hodge. And the enchilada chicken. Holy mama. The couple/family that are always there running the place when we go are super nice and friendly. I love the decor of the place, too - very casual, relaxing, you feel comfy as you nourish your tired bones with good food. Please don't ever close for good HodgePodge. And please consider relocating to my side of town? :) These people are resorting to Ron's and Hawaiian Time because we're all a little too lazy or snobb'ish to drive over the river.... or perhaps some of them just don't know any better. Love love love.

Hodgepodge, I swear baby, I haven't been cheating on you! Sure, I've *looked* at Hawaiian Time.. I've even been a little curious to try it out, I mean- who hasn't? Those are some pretty sexy flowers they've got stenciled on the building, but I've never even walked PAST it, I swear! She's nothing compared to you! The past couple weeks you've been so cold, baby. We were afraid you'd gone and left us! You say you're going to be open late.. you've invited me to drive-through, but when I come around 6-7 p.m., the lights are off and no one's home. You're closing up shop early and not leaving me a message or a sign that you want me back. I miss how we used to be! I just can't take all the mixed signals! I miss curling up with you on the couch, watching movies with the kids, nom'ing on your tasty, tasty bread. I was happy to see you tonight. I called ahead and you let me know you'd be there for another 20 minutes. I asked if I could order over the phone and pick it up, but you were afraid- you were afraid I would stand you up, or I wouldn't get there before you left. When have I ever stood you up, baby? You hesitated, changed your mind, and said it was against policy to take a call-ahead order less than a half hour before closing, and gave me 10 minutes to get there. My husband raced over to pick you up, he misses you, too, and says you're still the best he's ever had. He barely made it in time, but we were both so glad to have you in our arms again. Your chicken was so thin and dry tonight. Hodgepodge, are you ok? Your bread and mac salad were still amazing, and how I've missed your sauce! YOU know what I'm talking about.. yours is the only sauce that makes white rice fun! I understand you're going through some rough times, Hodgepodge. I want you to know that we're here for you, and we still want to see you. Please don't leave us! We'll change, baby- I swear! (As long as it's not too inconvenient...)

Service is always consistent, but it's consistently quite awful. I give them 4 stars though because the food I've received from them for several years now is always perfectly cooked, seasoned and portioned enough to have delicious leftovers! Their mac salad is well crafted as a side and the banana bread is the perfect addition to the meal as well.

Oh, Hodgepodge, what has happened to you? We have been coming here for nearly twenty years. Tonight's visit was our last. We got a Crusader deal...you know, the kind of deal where you get $20 worth of food for $10 via an online ticket. When we went to use it, the owner wouldn't let us use it because it was lunchtime, and not dinner time. That kind of sucked because we ended up leaving because of the frustration. A few weeks went by, and we returned at dinner time. This time, the owner wouldn't let us use the deal because we didn't "have it printed out"...we just showed her the deal (along with the valid code number) on a smartphone. We told her she didn't tell us that last time. Well, she claimed that it said very clearly said that it must be printed out on the coupon itself. So, we left hungry a second time. When we got home, we printed out the coupon, to find that the owner herself flat out lied to us. Nowhere on the coupon did it say that it had to be printed out! I've uploaded a picture of the coupon to prove it. Tonight we got to use it, finally, before it expired. I did notice that the portion size was significantly smaller than in the past. Well, I'm done. Goodbye, Hodgepodge. If you treat a customer like that, you will find that your customer won't return, and will tell many others about the experience.

My kids and I went here because my kids were hungry and les schwabs was right across the street where we were waiting. We got the bigger plate with rice and noodles and 3 types of chicken, so that we can share. The food was just too salty. We didn't even have any use of the soy sauce that is how salty it was. The Mac however was very good. The price seemed very high for what you get. The service was mediocre and they can't even refill ice in water and make you drink warm water when refilling. Wasn't to impressed and won't likely return.

Awful, simply awful. While the banana bread and potato Mac salad were passable, the star of their show was a complete flop! The driest, over salted bits of chicken laden in nauseating sauces does not authentic Hawaiian cuisine make. Over priced and disgusting, this place should be avoided at all costs. If you want really delicious, truly authentic Hawaiian, drive to Kona Cafe in Springfield.

What is with your hours, Hodgepodge? If I have a craving for Hawaiian food on the weekend, I have to go to "that other place." And miss out on your banana bread. Bummer! Under the circumstances, I'm shocked that you haven't yet closed for good. It's a shame because I like Hodgepodge, but you are losing business due to your short hours.

Would give a better score if the customer service was any good. Food is good and has been consistent for years. The customer service has never been that great . The owner always seems cranky and the women behind the counter was not any better. The woman at the table next to us asked the women if she was mad. It was pretty darn funny as the women's demeanor changed rather quickly. I would easily give them a 3 star if the customer service was any good . The owner has seemed grumpy since this place was located at Valley River Mall. It is one of the reasons I have only eaten here 3 times in the past several years.

What happened to you guys? I really don't want to come back. That's if and when your ever open!!! It's like playing a game of Russian roulet to see if your open in the first place!!! We finally caught you guys open the other day so we stopped in and it had been a long while since I had been here so I really wanted your Huli chicken which I see you took off of the menu. I see you took many items off if the menu. So I resorted to my other favorite the Indonesian peanut salad which the lettuce was yucky! The dressing as always didn't disappoint nor did the famous banana bread! You gotta love the banana bread! I added chicken to my salad and it was dry and not the usual so it seems like you guys are doing something different and not for the better. My other half orders the paradise chicken and he was disappointed in his too. So sad day!!! I have been a customer to the Hodgepodge since they came to the VRC food court and used to go to them when they had a restaurant off of Gateway, then they moved to campus and I got to go orders at the drive up. I guess those will just have to be a memory for Hodgepodge used to be an ok place to eat and now I don't want to. :-(

I had the Huli Huli Chicken Plate. 2 bbq thighs with a tasty suce. I ate half my chicken n rice n macoroni salad. Took the rest home. But I ate my banana bread and it was delicious. Good service, nice clean resturant. I will be back.

I'm very fond of Hodgepodge. Sure it's not fine dining, nor can I vouch for its authenticity as I have, sadly, not yet visited Hawaii. However, I CAN vouch for the deliciousness of their Indonesian Peanut Salad. Salty, spicy, with peanuts, tomatoes, cheese and romaine on a bed of soothing white rice. Accompanied of course by their scrumptiously moist banana bread (Oh Hodgepodge, why can't I ever successfully bribe one of your employees for the recipe??) I enjoy their other dishes too, such as the noodles, or anything with teriyaki chicken, but as I almost always order the peanut salad (with a half loaf of banana bread), I will stick to advocating for the salad only. Now if only their campus location was still open!

Yummy ono grinds (good food). Take it from a guy who lived on the North Shore of Oahu, this stuff is authentic and tasty. Better yet, the people here are so nice, you'll feel like kama'aina (family). Highly recommend.

I love this place, it was one of the first places I ate when I got back to Eugene from a deployment and being stationed overseas. I also frequented their campus location when it was on the UofO campus. They have since added a few menu items like the Chicken Katsu and snack boxes. I still am a huge fan of the Sweat and sour chicken. Mac salad is good, I do like to opt for double banana bread instead however, but that is because it's tasty. If you eat in you get real plates and flatware, you are also privileged to the "Hawaiian" music played on their audio system.

Went in here a few weeks ago with a coworker and was very pleased. They have made it a sit-down place now and I must admit, really like the changes. The food is great and now with the added service, I feel a decent deal for you dollar. The Mac Salad is still GREAT as is the Banana Bread. Usually, I stick with the Spicy Chicken and it is consistent. Hope they keep up the good work!

Good food. This place seems to be a bit healthier Hawaiian food than Hawaiian Time. The meat portions aren't as big but they are tastly. I especially like the spicy chicken. And the banana bread is a nice treat when your done eating!

this place was ok.. more meat and less rice would have been a better formula. i will miss some of the food though - this place closed~~

I don't know what Hawaiian food is suppose to taste like but I love the food here. They have a version of chicken enchiladas that is just amazing. It is their great chicken, served on top of white rice with shredded cheese, tomotoes and tortilla chips. I get mine with all banana bread because I'm not a macaroni salad fan.

Adequate for broke college students trying to eat out on the cheap at some place other than McCorp joints, so they get one star above 1 for a rating. On the other hand I want something more when I eat out when I come to Eugene. If you're a visitor to the Big City like me instead of a denizen of Duckland (Go Beavs!), eat elsewhere unless you're really trying to eat cheap and healthy.

Eh, Hodgepodge is okay, if you like paying $10 for a huge pile of rice and macaroni salad with a tiny scoop of meat. Ron's Island Grill is far better and tastier, with a better selection, better sides, and better portions. I wouldn't bother with Hodgepodge unless maybe I was having some tires put on at Les Schwab across the street and was restricted to places in the area. UPDATE: My opinion of Hodgepodge's food hasn't changed...but I neglected to add that they serve Prince Pückler's ice cream, which is definitely a point in their favor. Treat yourself to a couple scoops and skip the rest of the fare.

Eugene seems to have an abundance of Hawaiian food and most of it is pretty good. HodgePodge is pretty decent and cheap fare. I liked the BananaBread as well as the Chili. The Chicken, etc you are better off having elsewhere (the jail, hawaii time, etc) Back in the day, HodgePodge started as the restaurant inside an old Holiday Inn. I dont know why Eugene has 1. So many hawaiian food places and 2. Why they all have to be sub leasing other locations (see the old hawaiian time in 24 hr fitness). Either way, HodgePodge is a great value. I believe they have one on 13th now as well so i'm sure its well trafficked by students...

Hawaiian fast food. "Plate lunches" are a main dish (a curry, teriyaki, or deep-fried chicken dish) served with lots of rice, macaroni salad and/or coleslaw. The banana bread that comes with each meal is moist and tasty, and the portion sizes are generous. They also have pita sandwiches, salads, and soups. Not bad in a pinch, but not a place I ever really *want* to go to.

God I love Hodgepodge. Teriyaki chicken and rice. Give me double banana bread. Hold the macaroni salad. This is the best place to grab a quick bite on the bustling block next to campus that is 13th street. It's got a Hawaiian theme. Not sure where that comes from in a land of white people but who cares. The food is tasty and cheap. What more do you need? I don't know if there's a few others around town as there were in the past, but this is the only one you should go to.

A long drive up from California, a wait to check into the hotel and a grumbling stomach led me to this place. I was curious what places were still near the bookstore. I went to UO (1978-1981) and fondly remember the dve bar-Duffys where for a 3 dollar cover and a beer, saw Robert Cray. Now, it's a Starbucks (what else?) So, I take a quick walk around, feeling a little too scruffy for Sakura, I wandered in. The whole time there, I was the only customer, but felt bad for the college woman working the counter who gave me the perky "can I help you?" So, I had the terriyaki chicken and some rice, 8 bucks including a tip, still felt sorry for the woman. I ate and read my book in absolute peace. Like being at home, only quieter. the food was okay and she gave me way too much rice and I felt bad leaving so much on the plate, but gaining 5 pounds of rice (you know it expands in your stomach) two days before the marathon was not a good idea. If I was still a student, I'd eat here again, but I'm not and I'm leaning towards Sakura for my post race dinner.

I was gonna go to Hodge today for lunch and heard that they were closed!! I'm so bummed! I really loved their enchilada wrap and they had THE BEST banana bread anywhere. Hopefully it's just temporary. SCRATCH THAT! They apparently never closed but just sometimes take vacations.... silly rumors!!!

This place is just plain bad. The Teriyaki sauce is way too salty and the meat is not nearly as good as Hawaiian Time. Do not order the Teriyaki Chicken Stack salad, it is terrible and quite a ripoff at $10.50. I once ordered the Enchilada Chicken and it was also horribly salty. I can't say anything good about this place and I don't know why I even made it there 3 times. I think it was convenience since they are nearby. The last time I went I vowed never to return.
