LOVE LOVE LOVE Hawaiian time. I eat there at least once per week. the Kekoa's Special (Beef Teriyaki) is the BEST!!! Food is consistent, service is usually pretty good, prices are great. They have a great $5 student special. I am not a student, but I like that they have special price for students.

I've eaten several plate lunches on Oahu and Maui and Hawaiian Time is awesome! River Road, Coburg and W 11th. Definately better than the top 2 rated plate lunches on Maui. Be sure you get a little of their homemade teryaki sauce and pour it over the macaroni salad. I've had most of the dishes but by favorite is the Mauna Loa chicken cooked on the spicy side. Great food, GREAT value. IThe small is plenty for one, and the largest can easily feed 2.

WAY too spicy. Service was so-so, almost had to BEG for water! I don't think we'll return. More than the service left a 'bad taste' here!

my test of a good Hawaiian plate lunch is the macaroni salad. HT's was delicious. We've been to Hawaii a few times and love the plate lunches and this place delivers. The Kalua pork was served just as it is meant, smoky and tender. Next time we're in Eugene again we will definitely go back.

3.5 stars (which is exactly the average for this restaurant right now) Hawaiian Time is yet another addition to what seems to be a growing trend in Hawaiian restaurants in Eugene. I've been a big fan of Hodgepodge for many years, but as the only one left is rather far away from me, and a visit to Ron's really put me off Hawaiian food, it took me a while to make my way to Hawaiian Time. You will probably enjoy this place if you're a fan of teriyaki meats or pulled pork. Avoid if you're a vegetarian (all they have is one dish of teriyaki vegetables) The teriyaki chicken is not overly sweet like at Hodgepodge, nor bone-dry and weirdly smokey like at Ron's, in fact, the flavor is surprisingly good, salty with only a hint of sweetness. The chicken is quite tender too. The meals come served (in a to-go box, whether you eat it there or not) with two scoops of rice, which felt a bit dry for me, since there isn't really any sauce on the chicken (though you can get soy sauce and hot sauce at the front), and there is a lot of rice. I'd have preferred a little less rice and more chicken and/or a bit of extra teriyaki sauce. The standard side is a macaroni salad like at most Hawaiian places in town. The macaroni was perfectly tender, but it seemed to be drowning in mayonaise which was rather off-putting to me. It's really more macaroni-as-vehicle-for-mayo than a real macaroni salad. I took one bite and threw out the rest. The atmosphere is very casual, with tables for four around the room, and rooms in the back with what seemed like long picnic tables that would be good for a group. Very reasonable price-quality proportion. I might go again to get some chicken, but ultimately I found the menu very limited. No rice/noodle dishes of any kind, no real salads like my all time favorite Hodgepodge's Indonesian Peanut Salad, and a lot of rice for limited meat/sauce. However, if you like this kind of casual Hawaiian food you will probably enjoy Hawaiian Time. Certainly much better flavors and quality meat than Ron's Island Grill. Brief addition: I see uploaded pictures here on Yelp and they show way more meat than I received. They also show a lot more macaroni salad than I got, and it looks less drenched in mayo. I don't know if those are the large sizes (I got regular), or whether the quantities/consistencies are inconsistent but if you want what you see in the pictures I would go for the large size.

This is some of the best fast food I have ever eaten. I get serious cravings for Hawaiian Time. The sauces are sweet and salty. The portions are good. The macaroni salad is simple, tasty, and filling. I want some, like right now.

It was ok. I had the #3. I paid 7.95 & it was filling. I ate half & am taking the rest home for tomorrow. The plate consisted of teriyaki chicken resting on a bed of rice plus another scoop of rice & a scoop of macaroni salad. Very carb heavy. The Mac salad was swimming in mayo & a ton of pepper. I thought it should of had less mayo & a lot less pepper. Maybe add some red onion. It was very bland, but I added some hot sauce to it!! That jazzed it up! The chicken was good, but there was no extra sauce. I guess next time before I leave - I will give it a squirt of teriyaki sauce. I got everything "to go" & had never been before - didn't really know what to expect - probably won't be back.

  • Matt L.

Portions are HUGE and it's the best macaroni salad for a 500 mile radius. It would get 5 stars if the meat was a little tastier. Their sauce is good though. I wish they had breaded chicken like Katsu.

I went with my boss and peer when in town for a meeting. We got there early which was good, I didn't really know what to order (like they did) so I just kind of said #3- seemed like a good idea... It's strange- I had pulled pork over rice with this strange macaroni salad?? So unhealthy. My pulled pork didn't really have any sauce on it- like I expected it to. Overall, not the greatest adventure in lunch food but am glad that we didn't go somewhere even more unhealthy...I won't be back...

I went to lunch with a friend, who happens to be from Hawaii. She liked the food and I thought it was blah, especially the macaroni salad. Oh well.

Have been to Hawaii and was so excited to try Hawaiian time. It is nothing like the real deal you get in Hawaii. Too sweet... Very disappointed in the food and overpriced.

Ummm....my husband and I are both born and raised in Hawaii. This is place a horrible excuse for a Hawaiian Plate Lunch. It is about the most generic teriyaki style chicken ever and you almost anyone could make better Kalua Pig at home with liquid smoke. I always am appalled that Oregonians like Hawaiian Time...and especially the few people below that have left reviews saying they lived in Hawaii for a couple years. Yes, we have eaten there a few times to give it a fair chance. The food doesn't taste fresh, and I'm pretty sure the owners never lived a day in Hawaii. Noho's was waaaaaaaaay better. Too bad they closed their Eugene location because it was in a horrible location with no parking. Guess I'll have to go to Local Boys in Corvallis because they are soooo much better! Ono (delicious) plate lunches in Hawaii are spendy but this place is on the spendy side for mediocre food.

  • Chalabe M.

Love this place more than all the mixed plate restaurants that I've tried on Maui, including ones I've found on Yelp. I have tried most of their Oregon locations and have found them to be consistently good. I just wish they were a little bit cheaper, but even that hasn't ever kept me from eating there. Craving the #6 right now!

I haven't been for a while, but this is my favorite place in town to get Hawaiian food. I always order a "number two" which is some sort of strongly seasoned, thinly sliced beef. All orders come with some scoops of rice and super tasty macaroni salad. They get busy so sometimes the service can be slow-ish, but you can call in and order ahead if you're feeling impatient. On the flip side, if you feel like relaxing, they recently started offering a selection of Kona beers on tap. Be sure to enjoy the beautiful murals, as well as your food!

  • Jay P.

I went here because I like to try hawaiian food wherever I go. So I thought I would try here. The food wasn't the greatest I have had. Mediocre at best. The chicken plates were hard and dry. There was no sauce with chicken. The best thing here is the Mac. One of the best I have tasted.

  • Joyce E.

Meeeeh, I've experienced better, but I will give this establishment 2 stars because it is one of the few places around town that offer different sizes and student discounts. Our first meal in Oregon and I decided to listen to my sister, the Oregonian. I honestly don't remember what I got, but it was a "da kine" size of beef marinated in a sauce similar to those that they use for Kalbi or Bulgogi. The portions are okay for those who don't have a huge appetite like myself, however, the food was pretty much underwhelming, but I was hungry so whatever! Rice and mac salad are well, rice and mac salad, however the meat tasted as another Yelper said, "soy sauce with salt." The meat was just not good and even the worst kalbi in SF is better than what they have at Hawaiian Time. I guess you could say that the best things at Hawaiian Time are the location (easily accessible by public transportation), employees (friendly), and parking space (freaking huge lot!) Meh, I'll just stick to my bookmarks next time!

I love this place. I used to live in Eugene and Hawaiian Time was a regular stop. Can't go wrong with the number 2, Hawaiian beef plate. I wish Hawaiian Time would put up a store or franchise in Phoenix, AZ. I would be interested in opening up a spot :)

Authentic Hawaiian my foot. Walking into this place reeks of a pizza place. The way the food is prepared has little to nothing authentic about it. You order your food at the counter and bring it to your table, no problem but you want to change gratuity for a party of eight? Fine, then make it two separate orders. Uuhhhhh. Okay no gratuity charge then. WTF? Menu sucked, some food was okay, but trying to pass this off as authentic is embarrassing.

I've always enjoyed swinging in for lunch. The food quality is consistently high & the service is very good. They get your meal out quick & there isn't almost always more food than I can eat.

I have been to all three Hawaiian Time restaurants over the past few years. I lived on Maui for a number of years where the "plate lunch" is a staple for many locals. I see reading the reviews here that many people really don't know what a local plate lunch is and have given them a lower star rating because of their lack of knowledge of Hawaiian fare.... I am giving Hawaiian Time a 4 star rating because they have in fact stayed true to the real thing so to speak. They have a very good assortment of meats and even some veggie dishes too. I have never eaten in the restaurant, I always do a carry out for multiple orders as many of the people I work with also love their food. The kalua pork is very good, and yes it is supposed to be served dry, it's not BBQ! They have several types of chicken, one with a teriyaki flavor and the other a sweet thai chili flavor, both are very tasty. The same goes for their beef offerings, there are several different flavors each delicious. The restaurants are usually clean and lines not too long. They all have some Hawaiian themed art work and surfing memorabilia. Prices have creeped up over the years and now average $8-$10 for a large portion. I usually split that meal into two and get Hawaiian Time for two days! The restaurants must be popular because there are now four different locations in the Eugene area. Mahalo nui loa for reading my review!

I love Hawaiian Time and it is a must have for me any time I am in Eugene. Sadly, their menu has changed since December. The portions of rice underneath my meat was huge. The portion of meat and macaroni salad was skimpy based on what I was used to. Not sure if it was a bad day, but my boyfriend's portions of meat and macaroni salad were ginormous! I was jealous. Luckily he shared. :)

Love the Mauna Loa chicken. Huge fan!! The teriyaki isn't as good, but the place is worth checking out. Really fast service and relatively inexpensive.

Hui-hui plate was simple but delicious. Best macaroni salad i've had in my life. I can't say it's an exciting place to dine-in, but if you're looking for quick, tasty, filling food, this place is great.

Found myself in Eugene at lunch time and looked to Yelp for advice. We went to Hawaiian time and thought the food was great. I had a teriyaki chicken dish and found the meat to be moist and flavorful. The traditional macaroni salad was perfect. My husband tried a beef dish and said it was also really good. Straightforward order at the counter, self-serve soda pop, get your own utensils. Not a fancy dining room, but perfect for lunch.

What you get when you go to Hawaiian Time is meat, rice, and macaroni salad. They try to provide a few options for low carb, or vegetarian eaters, but they don't have a huge menu to begin with. When dining in one can stop by the condiments table and add extra sauce including teriyaki, however sometimes people take the bottles to their tables, so you might have to look around. I have never had a problem substituting an extra scoop of rice instead of the macaroni. For the healthy people out there, the Hula Hula Chicken with all rice might be the way to go. I once figured out that the small portion size was about 630 calories and 4g fat with extra sauce, being just an estimate of course. I will make this disclaimer; I have never eaten Hawaiian food outside Eugene Oregon.

We are Pacific Islanders so we're always looking for good chicken and rice. The hostess/cashier seemed very rude. She saw us struggling with the menu and didn't suggest anything for us. Also, there were flies just looming around the register so I didn't want to imagine how many might be looming in the kitchen. It had the right decor but the hawaiian spirit of friendly people and hospitality was definitely lacking!! 2 stars because food was good and mac salad was excellent! Hope this helps.

Since moving to SoCal, I always have cravings for this place. When I come back home, this is usually a must stop place for me. The portions are insane, so if you're dropping $8 on a combo, share it with someone. Save the dough. Or, save the rest for the next day. I love the macaroni salad, but I fear how much mayo they use. I'm not even going to inquire. I'm a huge fan of topping everything with sauce and Sriracha. Yum.

Stopped by here randomly and tried the Mauna Loa chicken - Hawaiian spicy. Did not disappoint and would recommend to anyone who likes a little kick to their food!

This is getting 5 stars because of customer service. We had an event that had about 30 people at it. We got 10lbs of meet or something... When we got to the event there was not nearly as much meet as we were told their would be. So we took it all back to the restaurant. When we got there the manager came out, listed to our story, weighed the meet and in fact it was about 5lbs off. The manager was extremely apologetic and gave us the right amount of food. He also have us a $20 gift card for the trouble. A+ for going above and beyond what was required.

I only tried one meal, but based on that one meal, I want to go back! First, I love rice and this meal comes with two scoops of white rice. Also a side of macaroni salad, which I really enjoyed. Then the main meat on a portion of the rice. I had the Honolulu Beef, which was a Korean-style marinade and made the beef really tasty. Very casual restaurant.

  • Joey H.

Ordered the Kahlua Pork, it had great flavor and juicy but not fatty like some places tend to make it. The rice was ok, just that of.....white rice, however you can put siracha and teriyaki on it, that always tastes great. The macaroni salad was great I thought! some people say it has too much mayo but I loved it! yum, I want more! I will definitely be back to try the chicken!

This review is based on what happened at my best friends wedding.... My buddy and his wife finally tied the knot and it was a great time. After I did my best man speech, everyone was ready to chow down. Being my friend is (or....was) a huge fan of Hawaiian Time, his heart was set on having them cater the event. The food was great, I've honestly never been let down by this place. But....If you are a bride and wanting your perfect day to go the way you want, it doesn't work too well having someone find a NAIL in the veggies. Obviously, the situation was played out well and nobody made a scene. On the other hand, it was a nail from a nail gun. Small enough to fit in a mouth. That could've been horrible if someone got that in the roof of their mouth. When my friends went back to Hawaiian Time to express their concern, they were treated horribly. They basically said, "screw off" and left it at that, no compensation or anything. This was a catered event for about 100 people....they spent one hell of a pretty penny on this food. They didn't expect to be fully reimbursed or anything, but I would say an effort to make things right is at least deserved. To say the least they will only go to Ron's Island Grill now......I still go to Hawaiian Time because I love the food, but I do think it's jacked up they couldn't make things better with my friends. So i guess moral of the story is, eat here for lunch (easier to be screwed on $8 vs $700)...dont let them cater your wedding, you may get a nasty nail in your food and then treated like hell.

Every time I make a trip to Eugene I hit Hawaiian Time. You walk up to the counter and place your order, no BS. The food is also no BS and you can get anything you order "atkins" style (steamed veggies) if your figure can't support any more white rice and mac salad. The Mauna Loa chicken is my favorite! Pros: Excellent Mac Salad (more pepper than most styles) The Duke Kahanamoku decor Beer from Kona Brewing Company Options for people avoiding carbs Pretty authentic all things considered Cons: There is no visible menu over the counter. You have to grab a small paper menu at the front counter to see what to order.

During our road trip south, we never expected to run into local (Hawaiian) food, but Hawaiian Time did a pretty good job. We shared the mix plate of kalua pork, huli huli chicken and a Hawaiian chop steak with a couple of Fire Rock ales. The chicken was probably the best, with the kalua pork a bit too refined, and the chop steak was good, but like nothing I am familiar with from Hawaii. The mac salad was okay, surprisingly peppered unlike in Hawaii, though I like pepper so it was no problem for me.

  • Jana K.

This place is on top of it! They have never screwed up my order. When I order in or take it out, they are always quick to have my food ready. Def would recommend for anyone who hasn't tried this place to give it a try!

  • Gus C.

Ordered two pulled pork sandwiches nothing added to them and I walk out with a plate of rice and veggies. WTH? Fifteen bucks of Stirfry. 3rd time this has order has been incorrect. Check orders before you leave. Have had more consistency at McDonalds. I won't be back.

I love Hawaiian Time. They do a really good job with their food and I have yet to find a better macaroni salad from a Hawaiian restaurant. I would recommend the Huli Huli Chicken or the Kalua Pig. Their portions are very large and their regular meal lasts me about two meals. The only thing I wished they had was the spam musubi. Then I would give this place five stars!

    (4)
  • Gypsy B.

I tried the combo plate w the Kalua pig (of course) and spicy Huli Huli chicken. Really good!! Yummy Mac salad too that is a great counterbalance to the Siracha I always add (blends in perfectly with their sticky rice). Another time I got the beef (Honolulu), which was also had a great flavor of spicy sweetness. I crave this stuff now and since it's been a month, I'm thinking it's about time for a return trip.

30 minutes after landing in Eugene (first time in Oregon) my boyfriend, his friend and I headed straight to Hawaiian Time - making sure it was the first thing we did. They literally had been talking about the food for a week straight. We ordered the Huli Huli Chicken, and I have to say it was pretty amazing. It was some of the best teriyaki chicken I've ever had. You get a little styrofoam box with three compartments, 1. chicken 2. rice 3. macaroni salad. It's hard to explain the deliciousness - you have to experience it for yourself. The restaurant is clean. And one of the coolest parts is that it's a hot spot for the Oregon Ducks team. We saw a few of the players cruising in picking up their orders. If you're in Eugene, check it out.

  • Tanita R.

Went to Hawaiian Time today and while waiting for my food watched the girl upfront tie up trash bags and take them outside to the dumpster and back in to proceed working delivering plates to tables, stocking silverware, and helping more customers all without washing her hands after she was just pushing down the trash to make it fit in the bag and take it to the dumpster. Doesn't make me all too confident in the cleanliness of the environment in which my food is being cooked.

  • Ian M.

Normally this place is fine, not great but big portions. Until I decided to place a call in order and it took them more than thirty minutes (I got there in ten when they told me that it would be ready). "I'll tell them to rush it out for you!" twenty five minutes later my food came out nice and cold, what a joke.

    (1)
  • Jesse N.

I love Hawaiian time, always get the mona loa chicken dish. They usually will ask you if you want it spicy but didn't give an option here. The food pretty much tastes the same, mac salad is the bomb as usual but their location near oregon city is even better.

    (4)
  • Mike S.

Now that I don't live in Eugene, I really appreciate and miss this place. Nothing extravagant, but a very clean restaurant with an extremely tasty menu and possibly the very best dish in Lane County. Order the Mauna Loa Chicken, 4* spice level and an extra scoop of macaroni salad to cool your pallet.

    (5)
  • Dianna B.

If you haven't heard me talk about Hawaii enough, let me tell you how it seems to have followed me on vacation too! Imagine my surprise to find an authentic Hawaiian eatery in Oregon! I ordered the kahlua pork and the Lau Lau chicken, both served as a plate lunch with mac salad and rice. Unfortunately the pork was not served in the traditional style with cabbage. Had it been, it would have suffused the smoky flavour and brought out the nuances in the pig. One small thing.. Why no Haupia? Haupia is the definitive Hawaiian dessert. So sad they didn't have that there.

    (4)
  • Doug D.

Help still seems bit clueless. Food is pretty good for a box of chicken and rice, not gourmet but still good when you are hungry and in a hurry. #3 Huli chicken is the best chic and generally good. It can be cold late in the evening.

    (3)
  • Nessa G.

Ok not the best not the worse. Last time I went there the only vegetarian dish was grilled veggies and rice. No tofu.

    (2)
  • Scott E.

Not a true Hawaiian plate lunch place. I ordered the Huli Huli Chicken not looking at the menu real close. When I got my food I though they made a mistake. The food I got looked like shoyu chicken. The person working the counter said that's Huli Huli chicken. It's basically boiled terriyaki chicken. Not very good. If you are ever in Hawaii and see row's of outdoor BBQ's roasting half chicken pieces over kiwae wood. Stop and get some. It is the best chicken ever. This place should have chicken katsu, loco moco, and spam musibi if it wants to be an authentic Hawaiian plate lunch place. Don't waste your time if you have lived in Hawaii or use to L&L .

  • James M.

Great food, the Mac salad wasn't super mayonnaiseey, (which is how I like it) but the crack pepper gives it a great taste. I had the Honolulu beef (#2). Its made with a Korean style sauce and fix my craving for Hawaiian food. My dad had the Hawaiian chopped steak (#5) with veggies. It looked really good with all those grilled veggies!! Im definitely getting that plate next time I come here!

    (5)
  • S M.

I have only had the Mauna Lua chicken and I think it is very good. Portions are huge but most of it is rice and macaroni salad. I really like the Mac salad so that's ok. Flavors are good and I like to add the seaweed. My only knock on this place is the price.

    (4)
  • Gregory N.

Had the Kalua Pork Sandwhich. It took 15 minutes to make, which for the traffic, was pretty fast. Holy crap though, the Sandwhich was so salty! I couldn't finish it. The bread was dry. The only good thing was the spoonful of macaroni salad that came with it. My friends who came with me had the teriyaki steak and a veggie plate. It took the restaurant 45 minutes to make, and each friend had more bad than good to say about their dishes, on top of being cold. I wouldn't recommend and won't come back. There are plenty of other better restaurants in Eugene to enjoy.
