My finace and I went here the other night. I ordered the Pescado Frito (fried tilapia) and he ordered the Carne Asada plate. My dish was AWESOME and I even licked the plate clean and his not so much. His carne asada was overcooked and tough, he didn't even finish it...and this is coming from a man that LOVES carne asada. They were very attentive to us and checked on us to see if we needed anything. The margaritas there were really good, not too sweet and it tasted like they use real lime juice as opposed to the bottled crap. Yes, we would go back but I would say if you go here just stick to their seafood menu. It definately reminded me of the Mexican Seafood meals I would get in Rosarito or Ensenada.

Love this place! Authentic Mexican food. Definitely not chain food that you find for the average gringo. If you've been to Mexico than you know that every region has their own versions and flavors based on what's available in that particular area. This group is from near the ocean and make awesome seafood. Bring your taste buds and enjoy the experience!

Had a deluxe tostada and shrimp tacos - both delicious. The shrimp were fried, but VERY lightly, which was great. Salsa was super fresh and homemade, with a slightly sweet, roasted flavor. Great service and nicely appointed. We'll be back!

Watch out for the special. Front sign was lunch special for 2 tacos for $5.95. Ordered fish tacos (someone in our group thought the sign was for fish taco) got tab for shocker $10.95. Way overpriced! Lost my business

We went to El Kora this evening after one of our hispanic friends recommended it. Our server was great. He was very friendly and nice. We ordered the Talapia mexican pizza to start. It was served cold with diced Tilapia, shredded carrots, lime, and cilantro. I was pleasantly surprised. I don't usually enjoy Tilapia. I had the Tacos El Pastor, and my husband had bacon wrapped shrimp. Both dishes were very good. The menu has many items to choose from and includes interesting and unique items that you don't find at your typical Mexican restaurant. We had trouble deciding what to order because there were so many choices. While we were enjoying our meal we were thinking about what to have on our next visit. I highly recommend this establishment.

Finally, a Mexican restaurant to "write home about". I love this place. The atmosphere is very Baja California (surf) style, not that cheesy old world 1800s Mexican restaurant style. The chips and salsa are great, the salsa tastes fresh and home made. No "restaurant/food service crap here! At this point I have had most things on the menu and guess what...there is FLAVOR! I know right, flavor in a Mexican restaurant in Eugene! ...it's true. The rice tastes well seasoned and I love their shredded beef. You can tell that they make their ingredients on site, the beef still has bits of potato and seasoning that the meat was stewed in. The retried beans even taste and look home made. The color is a dead give away. Canned refried beans are darker in color. Whereas these still have that fresh light color. The prices are reasonable for Mexican food, averaging $9.00 to around $13.00. Not bad for fresh flavorful food I definitely recommend, and have recommended, this restaurant to others. I say support this place and give it a try.

Wow wow wow! How refreshing it was to walk into a Baja type Mexican restaurant and actually get Baja Mexican food! Prices are comparable for the area. You could just get beans and rice with chips and salsa for under $5! Fresh, clean, and homemade! The beans and rice were fresh and I had to have the fish tacos! The best I have glad in the PAC northwest! This is a nicely kept secret near Starbucks and gold's gym. We were the only people in there around 5 pm on a Friday and we were left alone to enjoy our food and our company! The chips and salsa were fresh and awesome! The salsa was flavorful and closer to medium than mild but in a totally delicious way. This is a good place to just go have some amazing seafood and not just the same old tired Mexican restaurant fare. Salmon, scallops, octopus, halibut... Did I mention octopus? ;0) try it! You will be a fan too!

Excellent service, great chips and salsa. I had the Tacos Al Pastor (pork tacos) and they were quite tasty. Refried beans and rice were good, too. Clean restrooms. Best Mexican restaurant on the north side of Beltline!

El Kora is hands down the best Mexican food in Eugene. All of the food is outstanding. They have great service, and the low prices are an added bonus.

El Kora has the best Mexican food and friendliest management in town. My Wife, young daughter and I found this place by accident and come back almost every week! Very good authentic Mexican food including standbys as well as many excellent seafood items. Very family friendly, but also has a good selection of beer, Margaritas and Michelada (my favorite). If you haven't been you must go.

I was very disappointed, to say the least. Expensive, tasteless, rude, and slow. I was surprised by their prices since they are still serving food fast-food style. YIKES!

Very unappealing food and service. The standard beans and rice mexican food in a bland and boring place. With so many better choices I will not be back.

The waitress didn't speak very good English but was incredibly sweet! The food was decent but they don't have a very good description on the menu of what is the dish so it's kind of like a surprise when you get it and you weren't expecting potatoes in your shredded beef enchilada. Took 20 mins to get the check even though it was quite obvious everyone was done eating. It is definitely over priced compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area. The only reason I give it 3 stars is because of the sweet waitress other wise it would be closer to one and a half stars. Save a few bucks and go to los dos up the road.

They served our food to another table, that person took a bite of rice, then our server tried to give me that plate and offered to add more rice!!!! Not cool! I refused and they were remaking it. I was extremely put off that they would even TRY to give me food served to another table, so a few minutes later we told them we were leaving and left $5 for the chips and salsa we ate. The server was very defensive and guilt-tripped us, saying he was trying to make it right. #TooLate #CustomerServiceFail

Had their lunch special - two enchiladas, beans and rice. The enchiladas were swimming in some clear, brownish liquid (gross) and there was nothing that resembled enchilada sauce. The rice was some of the worst mexican rice I've ever had - even by Eugene standards. The waiter was nice but didn't deliver the menus for about five minutes with few other customers in the restaurant. The food was bland and flavorless. Really, not good at all. The lunch special was $5.95, but even at that price, it's not close to worth it. I'll take my lunch money to Chipotle or Mucho Gusto. The chips and salsa is the only reason to go there, in my humble opinion.

I've hear about this place for a long time now. Finally my brother wanted cheviche. This place is the only place I know that their special dish is seafood. First off, the waitress I belive the owner is really nice. It was empty when we got here but she made it so we didn't feel awkward. I got a beer. Witch was nice! Negra modelo. We got chips and salsa when we sat down. I got cheviche and my brother got a coctel. Everything was really good. I added more special green salsa and my mouth was on fire!! everything was good. Our food was good portions. We're full and have left overs still. I will be back!!!!

The food was adequate but the service was good. The portion size was slightly less then I expected. The basic flavor of everything was good but there could have been a little more spicy heat.

Cute place w Mariachi music playing. Ordered the Queso fundido w chorizo; took 20 minutes to arrive however, it was excellent. Also the shrimp fajitas. Perfectly cooked, very tasty. Prices were medium. Dislikes: wait for food and no beer on draft. Will definitely go there again

The gentlemen working was so accommodating and competent, he handled 4 large tables without missing a step. The food was casual and fun.Nice place to bring kids.

Despite a number of high reviews, I found El Kora to be very average. It was weird to walk into a full service restaurant to find the dining area the same as Taco Del Mar left it. Pace of service was a little slow, only one server. We ordered tacos, enchiladas and huevos rancheros - nothing was terrible, just dry & bland. I don't like spicy food, so when I say bland it refers to an overall lack of flavor. Women's restroom was not clean, which makes me wonder what else may not be clean.

This is definitely my favorite Mexican place in town. It fills a need that I haven't been able to fill otherwise since leaving Atlanta. Mexican shrimp cocktails and mixed seafood cocktails are a craving that I just can't get away from, so I usually come here about once a month, though I think it's better to come in the Summer so I can get a Margarita or a Michelada. Service is very friendly, even when they are a little busy, and the chips are fresh and warm. The salsa is just spicy enough to kick you in the mouth, but it's not offensive. The cocktail sauce is standard and authentic, which means it's a little sweeter than cocktail sauce in the American style, but with a little lime juice it's just perfect. I also like the prices, since it's much cheaper to get seafood this way than to go to a place like McGrath's (ick). So far I've had shrimp and fish tacos, camarones a la crema and a number of the various cocktails and ceviches. Everything is good and I even like their beans and rice. Definitely try this place if you like seafood and you're looking for something a little different.

Usual texmex bean/rice/cheese slop that is served as a muted smear on your hot plate. People seem to be into that. Salsa was good and they do have specials. Do not recommend the shrimp. Its not deveined so its all gritty and definitely tastes frozen. Pretty bland. Well besides the inherit poop flavor. It is decorated kinda cutesy with the tiki hut and er'thing but the food needs help. Did get extra limes and that made me happy. Service was kinda inattentive even though there was only one other table occupied. I ordered a Jamaica water but never got it.

Excellent seafood; everything fresh and perfectly prepared...try the 7 Mares soup if you want a delicious seafood adventure...

Great food. I love their Mexican Tacos. They take care with everything they prepare, evidently. The salsa is great, too. Located where a restaurant previously failed, I waited too long to try this place. Coldest beer in town. Iced Corona in a frosted mug hits the spot on a hot summer day. Not too many tables as this place is pretty small and out of the way for some, but it's worth the trip!

  • Kiley W.

The food wasn't all that great- but we might have missed their to die for entree while we were there. We had a seafood burrito and seafood tacos- both of which involved something fried. It was fine, but not the best I have ever had.

  • Jason C.

Definitely the best Mexican food in the area. However, the service is awful. Waitress rarely comes by your table to check in. You have to ask to get a refill for your soda or chips. Took forever to get the bill while the waitress was doing something in the back. Overcharged once and there was an occasion where there was a fly in the food.

So not happy with the service there was 4 of us and we had to keep getting up to order drinks. Slow service on food to I'm sorry but I always tell you what I think.

Absolute worst service I have ever had! Painfully slow service. Only 1 other table was full when we arrived and we were there for an hour and a half. Couldn't get food, couldn't get drinks and couldn't get our bill to leave. Food is NOT worth the wait either. You're better off at Taco Bell. Waste of my money.

Soooo very GOOD!!! To start the restaurant is clean but the decor is left over from the last restaurant that was here (it was a large chain fast food burrito place). If you can over look the bad decor, the staff is friendly, and the food was amazing.

I've been here a few times now and it's always great. The place is usually quiet for lunch so it makes for easy seating and a good place to meet over business. The service is really great, generally the owner waits tables and you don't have very long wait to get your food. Certainly great food and I will continue to go back. Try the special. It really is special, good taste and price.

This place is underrated. The name means "the coast," so stick with the seafood and you won't be disappointed. DLW loves their shrimp cocktail, loaded with avocado and good sized shrimp, and the sauce is not too sweet. I usually get fish or shrimp tacos, with double layers of soft corn tortillas and nice, fresh veggies. Rice and beans are nothing special. Chips and salsa are also fresh, not oversalted, and have enough kick to get your attention, but not enough to put most people off. They even make a pretty good margarita. The space is nothing fancy, tucked in a corner of a strip mall, but it's clean and bright. Service is usually good, but occasionally slow. The location at the end of Delta Highway means you have to make a special trip, and fight the traffic surrounding Wal-Mart. It's worth it.

I ordered the fish soup. There were 4 tiny bites of fish+ 2 pieces of broccoli+ 2 pieces of cauliflower in the big bowl for $13.99. Not worth the money. Also, the soup was bland and flavorless until I doctored it with some hot sauce. Service was good. The waiter was polite and attentive but did not know much english

Not too bad. Decent prices. Waiter is extremely nice but semi-useless. The food portions are small but you get what you pay for. $13 for lunch with my girlfriend that includes tip and chips/salsa is awesome.

In Spanish, I would refer to El Kora as "así así". Translation and summary: Meh, just alright. Not worth the price or the wait. My boyfriend and I ventured to El Kora this afternoon, wanting to try something new. The place was clean and well-decorated, adorned with twinkling icicle Christmas lights dangling around the bar, a Tiki Hut style thatched roof over one table, and various theme-related items hanging from the ceiling. A soccer game played on the perfectly located large-screen television. A for ambiance. Despite its festive interior, the restaurant was fairly deserted. We ordered the shrimp tostada appetizer, vegetarian burrito, and pork burrito...and waited for what seemed like an excessive amount of time, considering the lack of business. To El Kora's credit, the free chips and salsa we snacked on (um, inhaled because we were so hungry while waiting) were quite delicious. But when our meal finally came, we were disappointed--and that's what I base my Yelp food reviews on. The food itself. I don't need to spend $9.95 on an average-sized burrito that lacks flavor and ingredients, just so I can be surrounded by fancy decorations. Yet that was exactly what we did. While eating my vegetarian burrito, I ended up with more mouthfuls of soggy tortilla than actual ingredients. Its vegetables were small and scarce, and its spices were absent. What a waste of carbs. My boyfriend had a similar experience with his pork burrito: just tortilla, rice, pork and a little cheese on the top--but mostly tortilla. His burrito didn't even have lettuce or tomato, despite its description on the menu. The shrimp tostada appetizer, which was served at the same time as our meal, was actually quite decent...aside from its small size, which made the $4.95 price seem excessive. $4.95 is the price I pay for a huge, delicious vegetarian burrito from Super Burrito on Willamette. Slow service, and our server didn't check up once to see how we were doing. We packed up our own boxes and finally found the server, who had been busy chatting with his wife, to ring us up. I don't understand the Yelp reviews that boast of "low prices". Lunch specials ($6.95-$7.95) and dinner combos aside, how is $15-$20 per dish inexpensive? If you want awesome Mexican food, I'd recommend Super Taco on W 11th or Super Burrito on Willamette. These places don't have the same spiffy decorations, but they do have delicious burritos for college student budgets. Adios y nunca mas, El Kora.

Totally underwhelmed. So, i'm on this mission to find semi-decent Mexican food in Eugene/Springfield. I came here after reading mostly positive reviews, and although I didn't have high expectations, i'm super disappointed. I give em credit, they try. The service is fantastic, indeed! But the food? Not so much. Two words: SO SALTY. I wish they'd lay off of it. The chips and salsa are mediocre at best, nothing special about it at all. It's just like chips in a bag that are heated up. Oh, but the salsa is pretty good and tasty. That, I give them credit for. So...i'm totally debating whether I should give this place another try. Hmmm.

Having moved to Eugene from southwest Colorado, we were thrilled to find the yummy Mexican food and friendly service at El Kora. If it weren't for the fact that there are so many great places to eat here we would make it a more regular dining experience. We've tried most of the other Mexican restaurants in town and this is our favorite. While the location is convenient, it's tucked away off the beaten path so a lot of people haven't discovered it yet. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed!

We had chimicangas and a fish taco, which were both quite good. The salsa was tasty, with a flavorful heat; the service was primo (including a DELICIOUS pina colada). Quite a gem. We will definitely be back!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
