Service was good and the drinks were strong. Food was really generic and not special-- I could tell they use lard in their beans (I really don't care, but others do) as I immediately needed to take a nap after consumption. If you want meat and cheese wrapped in a tortilla and covered with cheese, and served with rice and beans (also covered with cheese) this is your joint.

Very friendly staff and great salsa. Otherwise, pretty much like every other tex-mex place I've reviewed... pleasantly kitchy decor, mediocre but acceptable beans and rice, rather good carne asada & that's about it.

This place was not good. The drinks were ridiculously weak (I am not sure that my pina colada even had alcohol in it) and the food was below average. The refried beans were a little scary. The chips were stale. I had a steak burrito - and although it wasn't the worst I've ever had - it wasn't that great. The service was fine. Nothing to write home about or anything. The worst? My three dining companions and I all felt ill for much of the evening (and for at least part of the next day). There is nothing you could say to ever convince me to eat there again. The only reason this gets two stars and not one, is because it didn't meet my 'complete fail' definition of a 1-star restaurant - no one barfed in the restaurant bathroom.

Dont eat here. Extremely bad service, food tastes bad (they reheated one day old crunchy rice and the beans were falling apart- from the casing ). Order a burito with rice and beans and didnt even finish it.

Don Juan's has been our family's favorite Mexican restaurant for years, and years. The food is always fresh and tasty. I adore their cheese enchiladas. I don't know what they do to them, but they never taste as good elsewhere! There are occasionally mariachis in there, which is fun to embarass your sweet old Gramma with. Their fried ice cream is tasty too. Good atmosphere, typical corny-Mexican-Restaurant. The same family owns Jalisco out on W. 11th too, so if thats easier... same food, same nice service, same nice people. :)

Cheesy atmosphere, check..big sombrero to wear on your birthday, check..place with good food and a smile, check! My family has celebrated birthdays there forever. It's kitschy, but tasty. Their enchilada sauce is amazing. Their mixed drinks are strong as well..bonus! Great place to take kids, as they have strolling mariachi bands occasionally. Food is much better than El Torito, and the staff much kinder.

Alright Mexican food. Most fun when there is live singing. A small tip and you have a song at your table.

I love Mexican food and I rarely ever get anything that's really really bad. And I wouldn't classify this place as really really bad, but I wouldn't classify it as being one of the best either. I stopped in here to pick up lunch for myself and two other people. It was an order to go. I ordered over the phone and made my way there. Once inside I didn't have to wait very long and they were very nice and getting my order together. It was around 1230 in the afternoon and there wasn't that many people in there. I ordered three super burritos lunch with three sodas and a bag of chips for three of us. I took out a $20 bill thinking that it couldn't be much more than that. When she rang it up it came to $46!!! The burritos which were not that good, were $12.95 each!!! They were your typical plate with sauce all over it and guacamole and sour cream and a burrito wasn't wrapped tight. And if you look at the pictures that I posted of the menu, you can hardly tell the difference between each meal. These burritos were $7.95 worth of food at best. Next time I'm going to stand in front of a taco truck and get it for five bucks!! Nice people, probably great family atmosphere, but I was not impressed with the food, and certainly not impressed with the prices!

I'm from Los Angeles and after eating at all the local favorites in Eugene, we wanted to find a good Mexican restaurant and not just some (gringo) Mexican place that can be found in the main part of town. After scouring yelp for something, my family and I discovered the most authentic Mexican restaurant in town! Don Juan's food was not only authentic, but also very reasonably priced!

My husband and I love Mexican food. We recently moved to the Santa Clara area and thought we would try this place out. We ordered the fajitas with half chicken and half shrimp and a small kids side of rice and beans for our daughter. When we ordered the fajitas the waitress told us they would be $20 for half and half. A little pricey but we said ok. The food was ok. Shrimp was over cooked and chicken was a little dry. Chips were stale but salsa was very good. When we were done eating the waitress never came to offer a box or give us our check or even see if we were done. After sitting there I decided to grab my own box since I could see them in the kitchen and we went to the register. The waitress put the bill down and it was $27.50 total! $23.00 for the fajitas that we were told were going to be $20 and $4.50 for a little side of rice and beans. Instead of saying "it was my mistake for telling you the wrong price" the waitress argued and didn't even apologize. So we ended up paying $8 extra for a few pieces of over cooked shrimp!! My husband and I are so frustrated with this place and will never be going back.

This place is great! I'm so sorry for everyone that gave this place a bad comment and you had a bad experience, give it another chance! I'm originally from Arizona and this is the closest to authentic Mexican food I can find in Eugene! The service was pleasant the food was delicious I we'll most certainly come back! The only suggestion I'd have is maybe some internal updating with a small remodel but your food and service are great!

My daughter really wanted Mexican food, and so we decided we'd give this place a try, despite the poor reviews. Should have learned--if the majority of reviews are poor, there is probably good reason. The service was not very friendly by the younger front staff. There was a guy that came out of the kitchen that took our order that was very friendly and accommodating, so that was nice. The salsa that came with the chips was entirely watery. No taste, just a light broth. The nachos we ordered were burnt a bit and had no taste as well. We are BIG fans of Mexican food and I've also lived in Mexico for a year. This is nowhere CLOSE to a good representation of good Mexican food. It feels like they are cutting corners wherever possible with ingredients, thus the entire lack of taste. Wish I could've given a better review.

I'm a big fan of Jalisco out on West 11th and these guys are a sister restaurant to them (the menu is exactly the same) but they are far from it. It was so different in fact that I started to wonder if they used a different recipe. It was really bad... really bland and the sauce was watery... and I was really disappointed because they're close to my new house and Jalisco used to be close to my old house. I didn't even want to take my leftovers with me but I had tortillas at home and thought I could improve it if I wrapped it up in a burrito. Meh, not so much.

Hmmm...easy Josh....Let me start off by saying I really used to like this place. We hadn't eaten here in roughly a year. On our way home, food was the topic (as usual) and I really wanted to some mexican. Don Juan! Of course! Upon entering, we were seated rather quickly. As we were following our waiter, I counted roughly 7+ booths that were available in the main area, yet we passed them all. We ended up in the far back of the restaurant where they do large parties. Hold up, pump the fuckin' breaks.....What just happened here? Did we just get tossed in the back of this place? I hate to speculate, but I feel like we were placed in the far back because we were the only couple there who had a kid with us. I understand she's 3 1/2 but she's very well behaved on the same note. None the less...I can let this fly provided we have good service. HAH! ....... You know what? I would've been happy with crappy service....at least it's service? Right? Literally, we ordered our food and never seen another person again. The check was delivered with the meal (very unlike a mexican restaurant. In Mexico, you have to request your check because they wont your money and dont want to rush you, but this is America right?) so we couldn't get extra water, we couldn't order drinks, and we couldn't get extra chips or salsa. I know I could've walked my ass over and got someone, but wouldn't it have made more sense to put us in a spot where others are dining and we would not be forgotten about? Call me crazy... The food had lost some luster....blandish. We went with chicken taquitos and deluxe nachos since we both wanted to share....I was not happy. Not to mention, Montezuma's Revenge!! Good lord... I kept telling my wife we should just walk out the back door. I REALLY, REEEEALLY wanted to. Of course, I never would, but DAMNIT!! If I was 16 again, I would've been 5+ miles gone before they would've known they got "Dine N Dashed". When we got to the counter, we had found our own boxes, boxed our food, and paid. The waiter laughed and said, "Ohhhhh I'm sorry". Blow me amigo. We paid and probably wont be back for a long time. Mexican is struggling in the valley and I dont see it turning anytime soon.

We used to really like this place. The chile rellenos have always been a favorite...but yesterday we went and at 6pm, the place was almost empty. The restaurant was dirty and there has been no updating in years. The friendly guy that used to be there to show us to our tables is no longer there...and I missed him.:) My margarita was bitter and didn't taste right at all. The rellenos were still good, but I got very sick right after we left and have been sick all day today. I'm sorry to say that we will never go back.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I wouldn't serve the food to my dog. The salsa tasted like Lunchables pizza sauce, and the ground beef in my burrito tasted like garbage. The service was terrible, and the atmosphere is sad. Don't go here. You will have a better "Mexican food" experience from the Taco Bell just half a mile down the road.

Went here with the Mrs. last night for an early dinner (had the Burrito Chile Colorado Supreme). No surprises here. Good Mex-American and quick friendly service. They also have great chips and salsa with just the right amount of heat for me!

Don Juan's is pretty much your average Mexican restaurant in Eugene, though with a reasonably large selection of seafood (but to be honest, I'd never eat seafood in a mexican 'diner' in Oregon). - They have sombreros on your birthday and a free dessert (some kind of dessert cinnamon nachos with ice cream. Looked delicious!!). - Easily accommodates large groups - Service was quick and they did a good job with the countless separate checks. - Decent cocktail The food wasn't great, but there was nothing wrong with it either. My husband explains it best, when I ask him "what is this? what is that? how about that?": At least in Oregon, the answer to all of it is: A bunch of bean-, tortilla-, rice-, and cheese-slop on a plate. I guess on my one-to-three scale of stars for local Mexican restaurants, Don Juan's gets the top mark of three stars. PS: They had strange but amusing signs on the wall for "If you were born after this date in ____, we cannot serve you alcohol" with odd years on it:1983 in English, and 1986 on the Spanish version (see photo). So beware, if you're an English speaker, you must be 29 to drink here, and if you're a Spanish speaker, you should be 26. (j/k)

Wow. Where to start. First the waitress was drunk. Then we got our drinks and the Long Island ice tea was bitter. The enchiladas and beans were super bland and chewy. Do yourself a favor and skip this horrible experience.

Don Juan and Torreros in Springfield are (in my opinion) the best Mexican restaurants in the Eugene/Springfield area! The staf at Don Juan is very friendly and the food is awesome! Their shredded beef enchilada is amazing. In fact, their shredded beef anything is amazing! Get the Chicken taquitos (which are chicken flautas everywhere else). They are soooo good!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
