Fantastic Mac-n-UNcheese is fixed to fulfill your comfort compulsions! Beats anything made with real cheese in its mouth feel and satisfaction. The macaroni was done just right and the UNcheese is incredible for its consistency and taste. I just hope it isn't too fattening.

I enjoyed the Eugene burger... Not a fan of their desserts. I'm not vegan, and I really enjoyed that Eugene "burger".

What a great vegetarian restaurant. No sacraficing flavor in any of these dishes. Quite a variety - which is a very welcome change. We will be back!

I can never get over how awesome this place is. Every time I go back I think it's going to end up not being as good as I remembered but it always is...and often even better. Their seitan reuben is phenomenal (and I am a reuben-aholic) - the dressing really makes it. They make creamy delicious coconut milk shakes and their mac un-cheese is so so so un-cheezy. I also love their cornbread (duh, the item their named after is delicious) and all of their potato dishes. I'm headed here on Sunday for breakfast, because for some reason I've never had their breakfast.

Amazing food and experience from a definite meat eater. Had the HempBurger with Cajun Ju Ju potato wedges. Loved the jalapeño cornbread. Highly recommend.

The salad was wonderful; the mac uncheese was so-so. Overall, kinda overpriced, but I will probably go back sometime.

considering how hyped this place is, our experience was nothing short of a disappointment the place is nice and so was service and it's not that anything tasted bad, from the veggie burger, to the soup, the salad and the cornbread, but if I were to say that I ate anything memorable that makes me want to go back, I'd be lying...maybe it's just not very flavorful food the mac and cheese with peanut sauce was the most half-baked effort

Excellent vegan food. My husband is a meat and potato guy and he even loved the thanksgiving feast. The waiter was attentive and the restaurant was full. This was a nice place to have lunch.

We had seen Guy Fieri's visit here and wanted to visit. None of us are vegetarian or vegan, but it has been the best meal on our trip thus far! We will be back!

  • Brad D.

Don't let the look on the outside fool you. The food here is great. The staff is friendly and eager to please. Kind of like a mom and pop cafe but just vegan. Thus far this place really outdoes any other vegan place I've been to so far. I got the BBQ Sammich with Cajun Frys. Bomb!

You know how diners that aren't vegan serve really mediocre food that nobody expects to be mind blowing? That is what this place is like, only it is vegan. This is not the worst diner food I have ever had but it is definitely the worst vegan food I have ever had at a restaurant. The food was bland in taste and color. It all reminded me of microwaved TV dinners. My food came out very fast so I knew everything had been pre made and was just reheated to order. As soon as my food was sat down I told the server of a dark hair right on top of my food that the cooks and her did not notice before sending out my meal. They had a complete new plate of reheated food for me in a few minutes. I give this place 2 stars for the concept and option to serve all vegan food. But I am pretty disappointed in the high reviews this place got that made me stop here on my vacation. This is not a place for you to go out of your way for. Poor Cornbread. :(

This place is a testament to the hubris of humanity. There is nothing quite like vegan comfort food to remind us of the need to manufacture better, more realisitc meat alternatives because we are NOT there yet, though this place would try to have you believe otherwise. If you're going to go full vegan, you gotta double down and understand that you aren't going to be living the same life you had before. Trying to emulate a menu based almost entirely on decisively non-vegan items, with nothing but meat substitutions comes across as nothing more than a disappointing imitation. It is much like a young boy trying to dress up in Daddy's pants. You can't fill that roll yet. Give it some time, I have no doubt veganism will be viable in the future when our culinary technology is more advanced. It is easy to believe we have arrived in the future, with our smartphones and our electric cars and our color television sets. But we are not, and I was reminded of this with 4 different plates of multi-colored plant matter that made me feel like a horse at a salt lick. That all being said, it was one of the tastiest salads in disguise I've ever had. 3/5.

I found myself in a bind on Monday and quickly needed to find a way to feed 40 plus people for our dairy-free challenge at work on Wednesday (today). We wanted some more protein-focused breakfasts. After talking to several places I thought could do that for us and being turned down, I called Cornbread. They don't open until 11 during the week so I was a little nervous I'd be turned down again. But no. They made use a delicious, custom order of a tofu scramble with veggies and vegan cheese, and a plate of soysauges. The food was hot and delicious. Many eaters (who are not vegan) claimed it tasted just like having real eggs. They were kind, and professional and gave us an incredible deal at less than $4.00 per person, and served the food in metal pans that helped keep the heat and made transport easy. The staff was friendly, professional, and extremely helpful. They really saved my butt! If you haven't eaten there, give it a try! I am not vegan and the food is delicious, and now I know they really go above and beyond for their customers! I also love that they are starting to offer uber healthy menu specials from the Engine 2 Diet on Tuesdays. And their cream pies taste better than the real thing! If you are eating there, the diner is fairy small but cozy, with a real kitschy and charming 1950's feel. The menu is American comfort food done vegan. I love it, and cannot recommend it enough.

  • Christina E.

I've tried nearly everything on the menu and I will say you can't go wrong with any of it. Delicious food! My favorite is the breakfast and the Eugenewich.

    (5)
  • Viddi H.

A a casual diner-like atmosphere. The server was nice and helpful. The menu is 100% vegan comfort foods. The prices are fair and the food is good. If you are reading this review then I suggest you go eat at the Cornbread Cafe.

  • R T.

Best vegan comfort food I've ever had. Great place to bring small groups, friendly service, fast and fresh. Plus there's an adorably handsome waiter with piercing blue eyes and nice trim beard...

  • S M.

This was our first restaurant stop on a long road trip away from familiar places. So glad we stopped. All five of our meals were delicious: quesadilla with chips and salsa (10 year old loved), moody portabella with spicy ju jus and sassy slaw, BLT and soup/salad with dijon dressing. The little kid's meal was impressive in size and the inclusion of fresh fruit or vegetables was so nice: tofu nuggets (so good) with mashed taters and gravy. Will come back again to try the fried cheesecake we heard another table order!

    (4)
  • Dave C.

ironically the cornbread was the weakest of the items I sampled. Based on their logo I thought it'd come fresh in a skillet, but it came as a muffin, cooked hours ago, dry and crumbly. The hot wings (things) were very good and plentiful; though the breading did get a bit soggy. The french dip was excellent. Loved the deep fried "cheesecake" for dessert, so save room.

    (5)
  • Nopojoe C.

very good selection of menu items, what my wife and I ordered left us filled and happy. Service was friendly and prompt, A little rustic as a building goes, but clean and neat. Kind of annoyed the duct tape on the seat left a adhesive stain on my shorts that I had to have my dry cleaner get off. But the food made us happy.

On a road trip from Portland to San Francisco, my vegan travel companion and I planned a little detour to stop at the Cornbread Cafe--and we were not disappointed! The decor and fun, relaxed ambiance of the restaurant is wonderful and the food was completely delicious. Based on another Yelp reviewer's recommendation, I tried the Eugenewich and loved every bite--couldn't stop eating it even when I was way past full (it's a HUGE sandwich). Delicious and well worth a visit!

  • Adrian Y.

I recently moved out of state and this place will be the one of the things I miss most, if not the main thing. I'd been frequenting this place for years even back when they were a food truck and my only regret is that I couldn't afford to eat there every day. Try the reuben! I've made sure to try the reuben every time I see one at a restaurant and none that I've tried has measured up to Cornbread's. The seasoning of the seitan slices has just been unmatched anywhere else and their homemade thousand island is just perfect.

    (5)
  • David F.

Sorry to disagree with so many other reviewers. Frankly vegan restaurants that try to make pseudo non vegan dishes almost always disappoint. During our visit, they had their special harvest menu. Stuffed seitan loaf, mashed potatoes, collard greens, cranberry sauce, gravy. Dry, over salted, unimaginative, and just sad. How does a vegan place have marginal veggies? Make some local seasonal squash, some roasted red potatoes (mashed vegan just aren't great), great veggies, mushroom gravy, real excellent bread, applesauce, the possibilities of this season are huge

    (1)
  • Analicia H.

Best vegan comfort food I've EVER had....actually no, best comfort food I've ever had period. Wow. This place is amazing!!! I loved everything on my plate, which included cornbread (of course), mashed potatoes and gravy, the fried tofu strips, and the macaroni and cheese. My stomach was very very happy after this stop on our road trip through Oregon!

  • Doug S.

What a great place. The food is incredible. Service is very good and a nice cozy atmosphere.

  • Hombre S.

For me, heaven is an all vegetarian restaurant. Cornbread Cafe delivers. The food was delicious---I haven't been to many places where you can get vegan barbecue seitan and macaroni and cheese. The staff was friendly. The decor and ambience is okay, I assume the regulars find it charming. To me the biggest turn off was the ambient smell. It wasn't the smell of barbecue or a restaurant, it was more like the smell of a ninety year old crazy person's house (no offense to ninety year olds). It smelled really bad--it was a real turn off. I would definitely go back though if they invest in some air freshener.

    (4)
  • Sidney G.

I love Cornbread Cafe! The staff are all friendly and helpful and the food is out of this world delicious! I've brought family and friends here who aren't vegan and everyone has had a good experience and enjoyed their food! I even ordered a roast, pie and gravy for thanksgiving that my brother picked up for me, everything was beautiful and so yummy! One of my favorite places to eat!

    (5)
  • Alexis H.

Uber tasty. Even my non-vegan husband loved it. If it's your first time you should get the eugenewich and Mac uncheese. Just do it.

  • Julie C.

Ate here for breakfast on a recent trip to Eugene. Didn't realize it was a vegan café until we arrived, but it wasn't an issue. Ordered the gluten free plate, not because I eat a gluten free diet, but because it had polenta. Enjoyed the friend polenta sticks and drizzled them with the maple/agave syrup. The "sausage" was okay as were the eggfu. I didn't eat the potatoes as I was already full by the time I had eaten everything else. I should have ordered one of the smaller plates. My stomach had been feeling kind of wonky as it can sometime when traveling. Ordered the lemon/cayenne kombucha which was delicious and really settled my stomach I wished I would have tried their jalapeno cornbread muffin. Also didn't know that this restaurant was featured at Diners-Drive Ins- and Dives until we saw the Guy Fieri's face stamp and autograph on the wall. I'd definitely want to come back sometime and try more dishes. Especially the frozen peanut butter pie!

  • Maggie A.

Wow! I used a vegetarian and vegan food-finding app to find this place during a visit to Eugene, OR. I am so so glad we came here! The menu is entirely vegan. My husband and I each had a selection from the "Build your own" menu, and our kids had selections from the "kidd-o" menu. Great value, great taste, fun ambience, great service.

  • Killer S.

As an avowed consumer of all things mighty and meaty, I didn't want to like Cornbread. I wanted to dismiss it as just another Eugene dive serving hippy lettuce with a side of shrooms. But their food is effing awesome. So, yeah, yum. I hate that they have that chili vurger covered in cashew 'cheese'. I feel like such a traitor to meat munching, but, yeah, yummmmmm

    (5)
  • Jacob N.

Food taste great. High on calorie count though. I also cant afford them very often. I don't mind paying the price because meat is expensive and locally sourced, what no meat in that dish and it costed that much damn.

    (2)
  • Sierra E.

Even if you aren't a vegan, the Cornbread's menu is so appetizing that even the highest proclaimed carnivores would enjoy the food. We are regular customers and have tried multiple choices on the menu and have not been disappointed yet. The service is friendly and efficient.

    (5)
  • Kayleen F.

I'm a picky eater and very tentative about eating veggies, much to my boyfriend's dismay. But this place was delicious. I liked everything I tried and portions were very filling. The service was also attentive and courteous. We had the phish fillet, the hempburger and the mac uncheese and loved all of it.

  • Biff C.

Place is really awesome, I live in California but my wife lives up in Portland Oregon so when we drive on the way I always stop at the cornbread. It is by far one of the best places I have ever get the Eugene wich! Really special place, can't say enough about it, I wish there was more places like this around where I live.

    (5)
  • Heather C.

I was so cynical about this. I figured the food would be good for vegan soul food but the other reviews and personal experience left me thinking it would be good, but not everything. Oh my gosh! Why aren't they in Portland? I would eat here at least once a week! Every single thing, corn bread, fish stick, tempeh chicken, coleslaw, amazing! Thank you for one of the best vegan meals I have ever had.

    (5)
  • Melissa A.

I have been vegan for 20 years and I have NEVER tasted food as good as this. I had the coleslaw, country fried tempeh, mashed potatoes and gravy, a biscuit, and strawberry shake. The service was spot on: friendly and genuine. The atmosphere: relaxed, chill, and homely. I literally felt orgasmic walking outta there.

Awesome happy hour, I'm not vegan but enjoy trying new places. The food here is fantastic and they have a pretty awesome beer selection too.

If you are looking for vegan comfort food, look no further. Having been raised an a vegan commune full of make-your-own-raw-vegan-sprouted-tofu-and-be-forced-to-eat-it-even-if-it-has-gone-bad type dishes and having rebellious paleo diet leanings currently, I tend to shy away from the vegan cuisine so prolific in Eugene. This place would have to be my exception to this rather strict rule. Vegan pulled-pork... What? It's so good! They have serious comfort food. Their mac un-cheese is somehow palatable, they have coconut based "Milk" shakes that are pretty bomb, and you can feel good about not murdering any puppies or babies in the course of pursuing you overwhelming need to eat some fried fake chicken. All-in-all I'd say it's a well deserved win and a 5-star for vegan food. Not grading on the curve I give it 4-stars, but it was almost a 5 anyway, lets be honest.

  • Patrick M.

The Cornbread Cafe KNOWS what it's doing. Very friendly service in a fun, no frills setting. I would go here once a week or more if I lived closer. I wish this place would open a second home in Portland, I think it would totally take off. The chicken fried tempeh is maybe one of the top ten vegan dishes I've ever had. Certainly a "splurge" but makes for a fun place to eat- and then walk it off.

  • Matt B.

Holey moley this was good!! Clean place and very nice people as well.

Best vegan restaurant I've ever been to. Both vegan & non vegans left very happy. The eugenewich was delish!

  • L L.

Cornbread Cafe, we adore you! I love that you now have alcohol -- your cider was a bit yeasty, but what a wonderfully fruity flavor!Your food is casual comfort and the best in that category for sure! The diner atmosphere is super relaxing and your staff outstandingly friendly. Don't ever change!

    (5)
  • Lief H.

The mashed potatoes and cashew gravy are delicious. As is the cheese cake in a jar. I normally hate mac n cheese, but the mac n uncheese is awesome. I also really enjoyed the biscuits and gravy. Pretty much anything that has their gravy on it is good, but sometimes it's just the gravy that makes it good. I just wish there was more variety in terms of main courses. The chicken fried tempeh, southen-fried tofu, and phish phillet all taste the same. The hemp burger eugenewich are pretty good, but, again, it could use something more. Same with the fusion nachos, they are great at first, but grow tiresome towards the end. I'd like to go back and try a few of the breakfast items, but it is also rather expensive. The yelp page is misleading in that regard. The perfect place for the hungry hipster who misses eating normal person food. It is definitely the epitome of privileged vegan hipsterism.

Authentic, simple, good, homey. Comfort. Almost good for a first date, definitely for a third where you want to learn more about your partner. Very good most any time. Nothignrecommended over anything else.

Friendly staff & yummy food! Try the hot things! Some of the hottest buffalo "wings" I have had, coming from 2 people who don't find many things spicy or hot.

  • Ray-Belle M.

I recently have become very unhappy with my dining experiences at this place. I used to love the environment, however prices going unreasonably high and feeling like I'm walking unwelcomed into someone else's home have caused me to decide to not eat here any longer.

Absolutely amazing Food! I've been going here for years and have had nearly everything on the menu, Cornbread has really hit full stride now that they've been open awhile, their consistency is really in top form and it's quickly become one of the best, if not thee best restaurant in Eugene. PROS: Innovative menu, lots of local & organic, Vegan (and a great place to fool non vegans), Relatively affordable, locally owned, great desserts, beautiful decor, always good music playing, great specials/always something new, good sauces and large variety of condiments, Vegan breakfast menu on the weekends! CONS: A lot of fried food (although for some people thats a pro:), a smaller restaurant . Must Have Dishes: Their entire breakfast menu (weekends only) Biscuits and Gravy, french toast, The Reuben (thinly sliced seitan/marble rye), Country fried tempeh, seitan chickn & gravy, bbq seitan steaks, cheezy or/and gravy fries, The Eugenewhich, frozen peanut butter pie, tempeh bacon, the "Hot Things", their daily specials, Dishes to Avoid: I'm not particularly a fan of their pasta dishes. Thank you Cornbread Cafe! I look forward to many more delicious years!

  • Monica H.

This was my first experience with comfort vegan food. Delicious! I absolutely loved every bite of everything. I have no idea how they make everything taste so good and so like the "real" thing. You can bring non-vegans here without worry. Three of the four of us are not vegan/vegetarian and everything was raved about with the exception of the Portobello sandwich, oddly enough. You would think that would be the safest bet.

    (4)
  • Mr. Eugenified E.

Went there for the first time today. I ordered the tacos from the specials menu. The taste was okay but definitely lacking in spice for my taste. I think this is a common theme of vegan restaurants everywhere. The food looks nice but is not spicy enough. Actually the food reminded me a lot of the food at laughing planet. Nice-looking but bland. The only thing the tacos needed to make them really super delicious would be lots of extra Mexican spice in the cooking process. So the good news is if they want to improve the tacos it won't be very difficult.

A Classic American Diner serving anything but..... Animal based foods. This is vegan versions of your favorites, from Cajun potatoes to nachos, with great friendly staff and crayons for the kids. The bathrooms are both family friendly and the atmosphere casual. My favorite eatery in Eugene by far. I love the nachos, many options for gluten free and the staff will help you decide because everything looks good. Even devoted carnivores like this place, though they don't want to when they first come. "What no hamburgers!" they crabbily exclaim until they taste the food. The patrons are worth watching and the atmosphere classic 50's diner.

    (5)
  • Cheryl R.

Seriously wish this restaurant was in Portland... Or maybe more trips to Eugene are in my future. The food was fantastic. I got a combo meal with fried tempeh and gravy, mashed potatoes, mac and cheez and cornbread. All of it was very delicious. Especially the mashed potatoes!!! I want them all! The amount of food you get is great for the price and the place is super cute. Felt very down to earth. I will be back!

  • Chris V.

This is a great place. My roommate does not usually like cornbread but he likes it here. I love cornbread and I love it here. the staff is also nice and on their game. And the owner is a beautiful woman who really cares about the state of the world. She makes the most ethical purchases available and and knows that we need to work together to make this world better

Are you kidding me?? I just ate a tofu burger with carrots as bacon ... And Mac and unCheese (made from cashew extract). And LIKED it. Heard of this place from Groupon. Will be back!

If this is what vegan food generally tasted like, I'd be converted! Fabulous food, great service and a very creative use of food. I only wish they would open another location in Portland!

Good food, but, if you are a hard core vegetarian, remember that this is comfort food, and NOT low on calories... that said, this is our fave place for rainy days... good service, yummy food and nice retro vibe.

  • aliya B.

Food and atmosphere were great! We ordered the nachos with the shredded "chicken" awesome. I ordered the french dip, which was also great. Friend ordered the Mac and cheese, which was lacking salt but quickly remedied.

Cornbread Cafe is A-OK. To its credit, I did have the most formidable, calorie-ridden deep-fried tofu steak I've ever seen in my life here, and deep-frying anything (especially as Cornbread Cafe does, with such skill and panache) always wins brownie points with me. Other notable eats included the celeriac fries (yum!!!), the mac uncheese, and a piping hot, savory-sweet cornbread. Other dishes (chili) and drinks (sweet tea) did not quite do it for me in terms of flavor, and I have not experienced much consistency between visits (both on the service and food front) but I do love the experience of eating things so indulgent, you wouldn't realize (without being told) that all the dishes are free of animal products... This is, in essence, the best compliment i can give a vegan eatery because i am a bigot and need meat and dairy in my diet.

Really good comfort healthyish food and nice smiling service. We always stop in for lunch when in town or passing by! Kids love it they remember the blue awning! They love the Mac uncheese! So far I don't have a favorite everything has been great!

I got the portabella burger and Shirley Temple. It was pretty yummy; the drink especially. Service was good and the restaurant very cute.

Finally made it to this vegan hotspot after driving by over the years and it didn't disappoint. Ordered buffalo wings, fried chicken, and a Reuben, with sides of mac n cheese, crinkle fries, and mashed potatoes. All the flavor without the slaughterhouse. Cheers to Cornbread Cafe. Chive On!

  • Chris L.

I had never eaten vegan food until I came here. I was surprised by how good all the food was. They have fries, replica chicken and meat burgers. Everything is so flavorful and yummy. Don't knock it till you try it! I guarantee you will be satisfied after leaving here. Portions are good too.

  • Mark P.

Although I'm not a vegetarian, I have eaten here several times, with and without my vegetarian girlfriend, because it's that good. Food: I've had a good portion of everything on the menu, and it's all pretty equally great. Only critique would be that the seitan pork/sauce is a bit overly rich. Service: Decent. If you get the French-sounding lady, she's really nice. If you get the other one, not so nice- more straight to the point. Atmosphere: Great! 50's diner meets hippie. Price: They've raised them since last year. Everything about a dollar more, but still worth it.

    (4)
  • Yaran S.

Had a wonderful dinner with my vegetarian friends! The southern fried tofu was too good to believe it was not meat! Mashed potatoes with gravy was worthy to die for! Love this place and looking foreword my next visit!

So amazing! Southern fried tofu un cheese macaroni and the greens! Oh god! Food porn to the highest degree. Wish they had a recipe book!

Awesome awesome awesome! Endless selection of vegan deliciousness. Had the hardest time picking what to have and decided in the chicken fried tofu...so so good! Are way too much, but had to get the chocolate layer cake. One of the best vegan places I've visited!

Whenever i show up to a place and there is no one there, im concerned. This diner had good reviews so i went ahead anyways. About 10 mins later ppl started showing up and the place got full. Very friendly service and the food was good. I had the Phish phillet w/ spinach, mashed potatoes n gravy and the jalapeño cornbread. Thanks Yelpers.

  • Terra F.

This is a total vegan gluten-free girl's guilty pleasure. Deep fried tempeh, mashed potatoes, mac-n-cheese, ranch dipping sauce....oh my! Service was really sweet and helpful, and the restaurant is cozy and comfortable (think row of booths). Portions were huge and I couldn't finish my meal. My husband and I thought everything was super delicious, except for the cornbread, which was just okay (ironic, huh?). Overall though, I give them 5 stars because this was one of the most memorable stops we made on our vegan foodie road trip and I'd recommend this place to anyone (vegan or self-proclaimed "carnivore")

    (5)
  • Claire V.

"Vegan? Nah, let's go somewhere else, vegan's for hippies." That's what I said, that's what my husband said, and you may have even thought this yourself. But abandon all thought of dreadlocked hippies gnawing on raw veggies and plain tofu, because Cornbread Cafe is nothing like that. Comfort Food, baby! Cornbread Cafe serves honest-to-god vegan comfort food that is tasty, rich, fried, and flavorful. Unpretentious, comfy, diner-style Mac n Cheese, BBQ, Fish n Chips, Buffalo chicken! My only criticism: The Mac and Cheese uses some kind of cashew based sauce, and that doesn't really taste like cheese, but it's really rich and really good, so I can't complain! The "meat" could be a bit more varied as well. The chicken and fish both seem to be the same plain triangles of tofu. I would prefer something like a meat substitute such as Quorn that tastes authentic. I like tofu and all, but if you're going out of the way to mimick the flavor of a dish, why not go all the way and get the right texture too? The dishes are still great though. I'll admit that not everything at Cornbread Cafe is a true substitute for the foods you know and love, but it's a pretty good approximation, and it's tasty, which is what matters most. Give them a chance, odds are you'll love it!

  • Brittney R.

Hands down as good as it gets! I love vegan food, and Cornbread Cafe is the best vegan restaurant! I have never left Cornbread feeling hungry or unsatisfied. They make the best cornbread I have ever tasted in my life, and the most mind-blowing coconut cream pie in all of Eugene!! From the sweet decor and atmosphere to the music, people, friendly service, and amazing food Cornbread Cafe has always put a smile on my face.

This is definitely a good place for a vegan to eat, the food is good and unlike any other vegan food I've been able to find. I love the chicken fried tempeh, and LOVE the frozen peanut butter pie! The only complaint I have is that I've really never felt welcomed when I've been there, the employees just haven't been very friendly with me. Other than that I would highly recommend this place!

I absolutely adore this place! I took my meat eating husband here and he was amazed! The French dip with oh jo sauce is absolutely fabulous! Mac uncheese is yummy as well. When people insist on getting me a present for whatever reason, I tell them let's go to cornbread cafe! My friend brought me food from here right after I had my baby and I could not have been happier!

Oh boy. It's been 4 months since I ate at Cornbread Cafe, and I'm still thinking about it. I was down in Eugene visiting some friends, and on my last night in town I expressed my disappointment at how I somehow managed to avoid all vegan eating for the week I was in town. Luckily, one of my friends suggested this place, and ooooooh boy, am I ever still thanking her. The cornbread? Perfect. The mac uncheese? Impeccable. The "fish" with tartar sauce? To DIE for. I think I had horchata to drink which... well... they just won me over. I'm pretty sure that by the end of the meal I was swooning equally over the amazing food and scruffy hunk of a waiter. I may have foolishly written a love note on the back of my receipt. Other vague memories include being so full I thought I would die, but at least I would die happy in this most amazing ambiance of 50's diner-ness and casual trivial pursuit questions. If I ever come back to Eugene, I'll do my best to eat every single meal here. P.S. Don't bother eating here if you're hoping for raw food and sprouted grains. This is comfort food, fools.

Hands down my favorite vegan restaurant. From the service to the atmosphere and food itself, I've never left Cornbread Cafe feeling anything less than completely satisfied. The 50's decor and music make it a really fun environment. My boyfriend and I always take advantage of the board games they have and it's a fun way to kill time while waiting for your food. And we've always had really nice and pleasant servers! The food is obviously the best part. My favorites are the Eugenewich and the Southern Fried Tofu. The side choices are awesome too. I'm always a fan of the mac uncheese and crinkle fries. Lots of flavor and deliciousness with anything I've tried. And they have gluten free options for customers as well. Can't wait until my next visit here!

Being a vegan foods lover, I was excited to try this cafe for the first time. I ordered the hemp burger but was disappointed in how bland it was. Adding hot sauce and condiments did not improve the flavor. It's hard to mess up potatoes, but the ju ju's that came with the burger were overcooked, overly salty, and unappealing. Because I'm used to living in the city and paying $10 for burgers, Cornbread Cafe's menu prices did not bother me as it did for some of the other reviewers here. However, charging extra to add lettuce and tomato is ridiculous. A basic burger should come with those fixings. Charging extra for cheese is a more standard practice, but not lettuce and tomato! No way I am going to pay more than $11 for a burger that is lacking flavor. One thing to be aware of is that this cafe serves comfort foods. It is not a vegan health food cafe. It is a place to indulge in your deep fried and creamy, rich goodness. This cafe has a nice concept, but the food was disappointing, especially when I came in with high hopes. I also waited a very long time for my food, but I don't mind that.

Aright, so i gave the Cornbread another shot and...it was....better this time for sure. Sat outside this time so i couldnt see or hear the cook. The waiter was cool, and the food came out promptly. I gotta say, everything was pretty damn tasty. The fried tempeh, mac un-cheese, and ju-ju fries were all good this time and i left there feeling a lot more satisfied than my previous visit. Overall, theres still some room for improvement, as i only bumped em up a star from last time. I was offered a 'coupon' but declined to accept; as i do not write good or bad reviews for coupon offers and dont want a 'freebie' meal to influence my review in any way. I dunno, maybe next time? Yes, next time, because i do plan on returning to the Cornbread again. At 3 stars, it could go either way...

The food was okay, nothing special but not bad. The service, however was horrible. I've never been treated so rudely in restaurant. The staff needs a serious lesson in customer service.

This is one of my absolute, favorite, vegan restaurants! I had the burger with tempeh and it was fabulous and humongous! It could have fed two people, easy. I loved the unique way they fried carrot slices that came on the burger, yum! Their prices are good, especially for the amount of food you get. I can't wait to hit this place up again when driving through! Keep up the great work Cornbread Cafe!

We found this gem on Happy Cow. I had the chicken fried tempeh with mashed taters and greens. Heaven! High compliment coming from an atheist. The breading on the tempeh was perfection. I don't miss meat at all after 7 years as vegetarian & several months vegan, but this was perfectly reminiscent of the comfort meals of my TX childhood. So sad that I live 5 hours away...

I tried the portobello sandwich and thought it was incredibly subpar for the price. If I believed that all their food was of similar quality I'd give it one star, but the person I went with said theirs tasted bland but okay.

Just give me a bowl of the cashew gravy and a straw! Haha. I've tried half the menu so far and everything has been fantastic. The chicken fried tempeh and gravy I have erotic dreams about .

AMAZING dinners! Best Vegan restaurant I've ever been to. Diner style décor, friendly service, dinners are $8-12 with generous portions (I always have enough left over for lunch). Every dish I've had there is divine, as are the sides. Tried it once for breakfast and wasn't wowed but the dinner menu rocks.

A must for non-Vegans... My husband prefers his steak blue rare and his cheese stinky, and he loved the Eugenewich. Just around the corner from Ninkasi, and the sandwich was better than the beer.

This place is literally amazing! I've never written a yelp review before but I signed up just so I can express how much I love this place. My boyfriend and I were on a roadtrip up to Portland and took a pit stop in Eugene for some food, and wound up at Cornbread Cafe. I had the breaded chicken tempeh, mac uncheese, mashed potatoes, and jalepeno cornbread. THE BEST! My boyfriend had Cajun fries, BBQ seitan, mashed potatoes, and a biscuit. Also amazingly delicious. I wish I got a cupcake because they all looked delicious too! Even while in Portland we thought of traveling back to Eugene for some more delicious food :) I've lived many years in both San Diego and Santa Cruz and traveled to other cities with many great vegan restaurants-- but honestly Cornbread Cafe may be my new favorite restaurant ever. Not only was the food outstandingly scrumptious, but our server was so kind a sweet and personable. The atmosphere is so cool, really cute. There isn't too much seating but it's worth the wait if you have to wait. Love this place! Can't wait to go back again some day soon!

If I were basing my review solely on the taste of the food I would give this place 4 stars, although since the service was quite lacking the particular time I visited the Cornbread Cafe it's only getting 3 stars. Another tid bit that might interest you is that cornbread is not always on the menu at the cornbread cafe. I happened to be there on a Sunday afternoon and was told that I couldn't order cornbread. I ordered the quiche special, which was good. It's kind of amazing that this entree did not have eggs in it. Both my husband and I were kind of shocked at how egg-like the dish was. The part of the dish I did not like was the excessive amount of bread crumbs. It came with fruit, but I asked for home fries instead, which fit the bill that day.

Nice location in central Eugene with plenty of parking. As I yelped before, I'm not a huge vegan/vegetarian guy, but I'll try anything. The decor looks all original diner with stools and counter tops. The staff was very helpful with info on the menu. I had the chikn n waffles with cashew gravy and agave syrup. Outstanding! And I'd definitely order again. The wife had the gluten free plate. She loved the polenta sticks. The eggfu 'eggs' were ok, and the 'sausage patties' didn't have a good flavor. Our waiter was very gracious and switched them out for a couple of tempeh bacon strips which were much better. We finished off breakfast with a frozen peanut butter slice of pie which was outstanding. Overall, a fairly good experience.

OMG.....so good. This is a must try place. Comfort food exactly explains it and boy was it good. I went a little carb crazy but as a vegetarian you don't get gravy very often. I ordered the chikn fried tofu with side of potatoes and gravy and mac n cheze. The tofu was really crispy on the outside with a nice dense texture. Oh man was this meal good. My dining companion got what he said was the best combutcha tea he ever had I had some hard cider. I am stuffed and happy. I won't say that vegan food is for everyone but this is darn good.

We stopped in at the Cornbread Cafe in the middle of an exhausting day of used car shopping (which is basically the seventh circle of hell). We're omnivores, but we're certainly not opposed to eating vegan. The restaurant was pretty packed at about 1:30 on a Friday, which is a good sign--it's also a tiny restaurant. The service was prompt, friendly, and unassuming. But more importantly, the food was awesome! I had the special of the day--the chicken fried sammie. It's their chicken-fried tempeh, done up Philly cheese steak-style in a hoagie roll with grilled onions, mushrooms, and bell peppers, and slathered in un-Cheese vegan cheesy sauce. I chose the slaw as my side after reading some of the glowing Yelp reviews. The sandwich was delicious and enormous, and the slaw was perfect--creamy, tangy, crisp, and I would never have guessed that it was dairy- and egg-free. My hubby had already eaten lunch, so he just had a corn muffin and a cup of coffee, but I cut off a hunk of my sammie for him, and he enjoyed it as well. It's not the cheapest meal in town, but it's prepared with love, expertise, and top-quality organic ingredients. At about $8-12 for lunch fare, it's well priced. I look forward to returning with my kids next time--they have a great kids' menu with full meals for just $6!

I was disappointed. The smell of the food was not good and lingered in the car for a week. My stomach was upset after eating. taste was mediocre. staff was nice but patrons were not.

The man behind the counter who took our order was very nice and helpful, but... I did not enjoy the food. It was mock diner food. If you want to eat diner food that just happens to be vegan, then you will be okay. I won't go back, but that being said, if you like fake chicken, fake bacon, etc. You will enjoy cornbread cafe.

If only Cornbread Cafe existed in my days of being a Catholic teen told I had to have fish on Fridays, I would've rejoiced at getting to say, "You know what? I'll abstain from ALL ANIMAL PRODUCTS, PRIESTY!" The Phish filet is awesome. This is damn good food whether you're vegan or not (I'm not). The slaw is awesome. The chicken-fried tempeh and cashew gravy--DELISH. And it's all very reasonable--$11 for a lot of vegan comfort food. Go here. Take your mother. Make her proud.

Delicious little place, I wish it was around when I lived in Eugene so I could come more often. The fried tempeh with gravy was outstanding. I've said it before but I love it when vegan places can make good gravy. I haven't encountered it all that often. The Mac Uncheeze was great too and the creamy cashew blend was a nice touch, I like comparing the differences between those and the blends that use nutritional yeast. Good service, nice portions and not terribly expensive either. I want to try the BBQ Seitan sandwich next time.

Let me preface this review by saying that I am NOT a vegan/vegetarian. I went to Cornbread with my visiting in-laws who are vegan and come from a small town in Wisconsin where they have to make all their food because restaurants do not cater to vegans/vegetarians...ever. I ordered the biscuits and gravy(3 stars) with a large orange juice(5 stars). The juice was great. I have no idea if they fresh squeeze it or not, but it really tasted fresh and bright. My biscuits and gravy were very convincing. I don't think I would have known they were vegan if I hadn't been told. However, they weren't excellent. Just okay. But let me clarify that statement by saying that I'm only comparing them to real, meaty, fatty, biscuits and gravy. So I guess they were fairly impressive? I don't know anymore. I've confused myself. What I'm not confused about - the service(5 stars). It was FANTASTIC. Our server was so unbelievably personable and put our entire table at ease. I haven't had better service anywhere in Eugene. As a non-vegan, I will not become a regular at this restaurant. But if I ever decide to stop my animal product consumption...

I honestly can't remember everything we had because my resounding memory of the place is how my woman and I felt afterward: like we had minor food poisoning. The cornbread was one of the worst I've ever had with the sweet taste and texture of cake. I once had a similar thing when my girl grabbed a mix from Trader Joe's. The Potato wedges were also undercooked and lacked seasoning. The Mac and UnCheese was just odd and - as everything else here - just didn't taste right. Everything I ate gave me that tingling on the back of the neck that makes you think "something is just wrong with this," and we were right, stomach aches all around. The atmosphere reinforces my stereotype of hip places with "cafe" in the title in Eugene that don't serving an earl bird special: tons of people in knit caps that are much better than you. I'm sorry that I can't remember more, but it was before I wrote yelp reviews, and yet I am forced to review all of these confusingly overrated places in Eugene.

This is a great place to go with my vegan friend for lunch. I like the jerk portabello, the spicy purple slaw and the mashed potatoes the very best. The great thing is that whether you are vegan or not there's plenty of good, plentiful comfort food. I also like that I can get kombucha. I've eaten here about four times, and have yet to try something that my omnivore palate doesn't like. I do build it into my trip there that I may wait a bit for my food, which isn't a thing for me as long as I'm aware of it. It's worth the wait, because they are busy making sure the food is done well, that the ingredients are fresh, and that everything comes out at the same time. There is not always a wait, let me be clear, but as the popularity rises, adjustments are always being made, I think. The service is very friendly, and they answered any questions I had and were quick with recommendations. I'll definitely be back again.

My wife & I are happy meat eaters. But we have a friend who is not. We meet once a wk for dinner & it's always fun to try new places. Low & behold the Cornbread Cafe was the perfect spot for us all to share a meal! My wife enjoyed the "fish" sticks (i.e. firm tofu fried in kelp batter), I had a BBQ burger (of sorts) and our friend had a "chicken" fried steak. Everything was deliciously seasoned, perfectly cooked, and all the textures created by the side dishes and the preparation of the ingredients made it a wonderful meal for people like me who are a little shy when it comes to vegetarian/vegan options because of the fear of eating nothing but mush. We also enjoyed a "milk" shake and it was AWESOME. Highly recommend this place. And if you're trying to transition into vegetarian/vegan life, this is a place to get you started.

I love this place! LOVE THIS PLACE SO MUCH IT HURTS. But more seriously, I really love everything I've eaten here. The omelets are the best vegan omelets ever. They have these unique tofu-egg sheets that let me have an omelet that looks like the ones I grew up eating. The only bummer is that they didn't exist when I lived in Eugene.

  • Brieana E.

Even BETTER than I remember it! Love the new location. Phish with tarter sauce, Mac and Cheese, Agave Greens (spinach, way yummy) and a biscuit with Earth Balance. YES PLEASE!!! P.S. Not to name any names, but I do live in the bay area, and Cornbread Cafe is by far the best vegan soul food I've ever experienced... Outside of my own kitchen that is.

  • Bailey M.

I was more than a tad pleased and surprised to find a vegan "soul food" joint in Eugene, Oregon BUT the fact that it was delicious and a rival to my favorite (read: most legit in the country) spot in DC deserves a round of applause. This was better than a certain place in Oakland, CA that shall not be named. I will take what I can get but Cornbread Cafe you took my taste buds for a marvelous ride. Kombucha on tap? Right on! That's how you earn a fifth star ladies and gents ... it isn't exactly southern but like I said ... this is Eugene and there's no doubt that Cornbread Cafe was inspired by the owners' Grandmama's kitchen!

  • Jess T.

Dinner at Cornbread Cafe a few weeks ago was serviceable. The service was really nice and the decor is sweet. I liked that they had some gluten free options as well. The food was okay-- kind of hit and miss. Order the greens and man un cheese -- those were the best things we ordered. Mashed potatoes with gravy were pretty tasty too. The cornbread was really crumbly and dry. I know it's vegan, but it was just kind of blah cornbread for being the namesake of the whole place. Entrees we ordered were kind of the same tasting -- the overhwhelming taste is just kind of "breaded". I might come here again with friends who are excited about eating vegan food, but it's probably not somewhere I'll come on my own.

  • Aaron D.

Just as good as last time. I took my mom in with me the last time I went. She is 81 years old and had no idea it was vegan. She ate every bite and loved the cornbread!! It's a fun spot - all the country music you grew up listening to (if you're like me and graduated high school in the 1970's) combined with that southern down home food but completely vegan. Fun and outlandish at the same time.

STILL wonderful! I went in there with my cousin, sister and son for our birthday dinner and I got the Rubien with Un-Mac and Chsses and the Uncle Todds greens. WONDERFUL!! :) and my super picky son who has to have his food just right was happy with the Un-Mac and Cheese and his peanut butter and jelly sandwhich. The staff has always been really friendly and were nice to my son (who can be a handful at times) who was wanting to play with every toy in there. I didn't feel preasure to buy dessert or feel like anything was pushed at me (I NEVER feel like that elseware!) and I was as happy as can be! :)

I am upping my rating from 3 to 4 stars because i ate brunch here yesterday. and i must say, brunch is really where cornbread cafe shines. i had the chicken and waffles (which is a huge serving). I suggested to the waiter that they serve breakfast all day every day. they really should!

  • Courtney C.

Yum! I have eaten lots of meat substitutes that I hated and I'm also an avid meat lover, so I came here with an open mind and very empty stomach. I'd heard it was good and it certainly is. My friend and I both got completely different things from the menu out of the build it yourself section so we could try a lot of things. The price was good and the food was better than good. I highly recommend it for meat and non-meat eaters alike. Can't give any info on the vegan front- it all tasted great without the "normal" ingredients! Additionally, the mac uncheese does not resemble mac and cheese at all in it's flavor but is still completely delicious! Just don't expect anything even remotely cheesy. :D

Food = 2 (odd and off tasting) Price = 4 (cheap... but, if the foods not good... that doesn't matter) Experience = 3 (quick... the server was nice) Mac and uncheese with cornbread was eatable... but just barely.

    (2)
  • Kayla W.

*EDIT* Returned about 6 months later to give it one more shot. Exact same situation with prices slightly raised. Definitely won't try this again. ____________________________________________________ I'm actually surprised by all the 5 star reviews here. I could never, in good conscious, give it more than 2 stars. The food was overall bland and unseasoned. Also, for some reason, everything that was deep fried had a fishy taste (likely because they use the same oil to fry their phish sticks or w/e it is). The cornbread, which you would think they would have perfected, was so crumbly you could barely eat it. I disliked the mac-un-cheese the most, but I won't ding them too much for that because, as a vegan, I realize how hard it is to make fake cheese taste good. My husband got the bbq'd seitan and the sauce was awful and liquidy. Let me be clear, we are NOT picky eaters! But this place just did not impress us at all. We even went back for a second chance to see if it was maybe just an off day, but got the same results. I honestly really really really wanted to love this place. The decor is adorable, the staff is very friendly, and I absolutely love supporting a cruelty-free business. However, I just didn't like the food at all. We won't be going back, unfortunately.

This is hands-down my favorite restaurant in Eugene (which is saying a lot because the food, especially vegan, in Eugene is awesome). So far I have tried the cornbread, hot things, mac uncheese, chili cheez fries, french dip with peppers and onions (heaven heaven heaven), and the classic breakfast. Looking forward to trying the chick'n & waffle and the BLT the next couple times I visit! Highly recommend.

This is that place that makes even a carnivore think going vegan sounds great. I absolutely loved the food here, and will be going out of my way to eat at Cornbread Cafe any time I'm anywhere remotely near Eugene. Truly inventive and delicious vegan food, and it's cheap! I hate when vegan places try to charge you $15 for a simple plate of food. Aaaah, this place is wonderful. The **Southern Fried Tofu** was really tasty, and the BBQ sauce was 100% spot on, delicious. But the real winner was the special of the day, the **NACHOS**!! (picture: yelp.com/biz_photos/-eVw… ) Please please please add them to the standard menu. I had no choice but to lick every last bit off the cheeseless cheese sauce from the bowl. The seitan "meat" on top was absolutely delicious, and they were generous with it so there was enough to have some in every bite. Also, the cookies were fantastic. We got two, and decided we needed a third for the road. THANK YOU, Cornbread Cafe, for existing. Now open a location in Berkeley. :)

I like to see lots of vegetable options on a vegan menu, but unfortunately what you get here are lots of soy options. For those who avoid soy, pasta, corn and gluten there's not much to eat here. Won't be back. For fabulous raw vegan food, go a few more blocks to TruVeg trailor cafe.

We were on our way to the Coast on a Sunday afternoon and Cornbread Cafe was one of the only places in town we could find open. Several of our vegetarian travellers were happy to find this vegan restaurant. It is cozy diner style place; several booths and counter seating only. It is sort of a mix of old fashion and funky new. It its kid and family friendly with games and books for the wait. We went around 1:30 in the afternoon and it was steady business. We did not have to wait for seating, but those coming in after us did. We were given the breakfast menu which offered a good variety. The food arrived shortly. Tempeh sausage and biscuits with gravy was excellent. Eggfu scramble was very tasty, nice little sauce on top. Breakfast burrito was very good and served with home fries done to perfection. Of course we had to take an oatmeal and a chocolate gf whoppee pies for the road. A great break in our road-trip, we left with happy full bellies. The thing that was most puzzling was the menu had no cornbread. :( I'd still go back.

My first real crack at Vegan food. I often wondered how hard it would be to be Vegan, but Cornbread Cafe has cured that wonderment. If Vegan food can be this good??? Piece of cake. =) Cornbread Cafe is located in what appears to have been an old diner and the name could definitely confuse people in not realizing this is a Vegas spot. They did a great job on the decor to make it not feel like it used to be a diner. I had the lunch special phish tacos. The phish were breaded nicely, the sauce was very flavorful and they surprisingly completely satisfied my craving for fish tacos. My co-worker had the Southern Fried Tofu with greens and Mac & cheese. All very good. The waitress also gave us a try of the mashed potatoes and gravy. They really have flavor down in all their dishes. Our server was extremely friendly and helpful in welcoming us into Vegan cuisine. This is a great place for Vegans to get their comfort food fix!

Very cute, colorful spot. Not on my side of town, but it is worth it. Very tasty vegan food. Waitress was kind and knowledgeable. Food came fast and was very good. I am giving this spot a 4 out 5 because it is called the cornbread cafe and I did not really like the cornbread...I should it explain that I am from NC and its just not the right flavor or texture I am used to. We ordered and shared the Chili w/ cornbread and side salad (a bit sad looking) good fresh dressing. Eugenian sandwich was large but very good (fried carrots and onions and the sauce blanced the tofu nicely). I like that they advertise where ingredients were coming from (Most local). They played great music and there are games galore to entertain while you relax. I love this comfy diner and it is fairly priced. Yummy vegan sweets as well.

I can't say enough about this place! I had the Eugenewich and mac n cheese which was out of this world delicious and I could hardly believe it was both vegan AND gluten free. It was the first time since becoming vegan I could walk into a restaurant and be able to pretty much choose anything off the menu and know it was "safe"! If you're looking for decadent and fun this is the place.

You act like 10.50 is a fair price for a tofu patty. If your overhead is so great that you are losing money, while prices have increased 25% in the last year and your business has gone up in customers, and you've been in business 5 years, you are doing things wrong. How about focusing on providing a quality item for a fair price instead of donating 1000s to charity and giving away who knows what else. You are restaurant, and your loyalty should be to your customers, no one else. It is insulting to justify the increased price of tofu (how about real numbers for us?) You're paying .85$ instead of .60$ for a tofu patty or is it 1.85 instead of 1.60? Either way it's insignificant, and I know the price of your Tofu sandwich didn't increase the 3$ it's went up in the past year and a half. I am not the only one who feels this way, it is insulting to write off major price increases by saying your customers are going up (must be the price increase bringing them in), and you aren't making a profit because of your overhead. Why not charge 20$ a burger and call yourselves a charity organization? Sounds like that's what you're shooting for. I just want good vegan food for a good price, sorry to see that's not what your goal is at cornbread. Good luck making yourselves feel good giving away charity at the expense of your regulars. I guess I have to feel like I'm donating to charity to justify 12$ for a veggie entree.

Bangin. I recently went through some serious health issues and have basically been told to give up animal products if I want to live long and prosper ;-) So I decided to check this place out. WOW! I'm in. I can way eat like this. The food was delicious and the joint was non intimidating. I had southern fried tofu, mashed tats & grave, and mac & cheese. Portobello, Mac uncheese, sassy slaw and classic cornbread. The amount of food served is great considering the price you pay. I was starving and only paid $10 to fill my hunger-stricken-empty-stomach. Portobello was so juicy and flavorful, cooked just right. Slaw was a-ok but Mac uncheese was bomb! I think I would order mac uncheese by itself. Service was pretty good but it seems like the restaurant runs out of certain stuff (bread to be exact) towards the end of the hour of operation. I ordered spicy jalapeno bread but waitress told me about a minute later that they ran out. Regardless, I will be willing to visit Cornbread Cafe next time I'm down in Eugene.

I attempted to eat at Cornbread Cafe tonight. It would have been my third visit. The first two times were fine. Food, A-ok! Experience, totally normal. Tonight was... weird. My friend and I walked in and the place was packed. No biggie; we saw a table with people ready to leave and waited to be acknowledged by staff. I get that they're busy but not a single person says one word to us. Not one staff member has a smile for us. About 10 minutes after we got there I think they told my buddy not to sit at the dirty table because a family at the bar had dibs on it. So we sat at the bar; seriously no big deal. About 10 more minutes pass as members of the staff whisk by on important tasks. Do they bring menus? No. Do they take a drink order? No. Do they even cast one askance glance in our direction!? Nope... no they did not. (If you prick us, do we not bleed?!) So, we left. We went to the mall then went home and prepared ourselves a delicious vegan dinner and all was joyous. Cornbread! Super lame-o service; get it together!

Awesome food, good service, comfortable atmosphere. The only criticism I have Is that their coleslaw used to be the best, they have since changed the recipe...not bad, but not the best

It is so great to have a veggie diner in Eugene. I took my brother here for his birthday. I had the dish where you can choose two sides (under $11). Plus drinking from mason jars was very nostalgic. I also had cheese cake in a jar (I think I paid $4 or $5). That was a fun experience. My brother had the special which was a buffalo style burger (about $10). He said it was freakin' delicious. He also had the root beer float (about $4). The root beer was blue Sky so no artificial syrups. We also got the large cajun style fries (about $5). The cornbread was pretty tasty as well the mac and cheese (also, I liked the sautéed greens). The prices are fair, which allowed me to splurge on my bro's bday. It was cool to see some local artwork in the back done by talented youth. Also I am a fan of gender neutral bathrooms. We need more of them in the states. I didn't mention the cards on the table full of fun questions and trivia. Darn, I wrote too much. But when I like something, I gotta tell folks why I like it... In great detail. Lol. :)

Absolutely the best vegan restaurant there is in Eugene. 100% guaranteed satisfaction. Every plate of food is absolutely exquisite. I completely recommend this restaurant. Prices are fair and the staff are welcoming. You won't be disappointed.

The Phish and Chips was AMAZING. I've never had anything like it. There was a lot of hype about this place and it totally lived up to it.

Best vegan restaurant we've ever eaten at. Sunday breakfast was delicious. Potatoes were fabulous. Great coffee and they had coconut creamer.

Vegan soul food. Its almost an oxymoron; I mean, when I eat soul food, I expect to be devouring the souls of the poor swines that spend hours upon hours roasting in a smoker, or the poultry that suddenly finds itself breaded and deep fried with Colonel's secret recipe. Last time I checked, tofu and vegetables do not have souls. Anywho, I had a fried tofu sandwich with mac uncheese. It's the best vegan soul food I've ever had. Unfortunately, I have no other references for comparison. The fried tofu sandwich was good, but it tastes exactly as you might imagine a fried tofu sandwich might taste. The mac uncheese doesn't taste like mac and cheese, but at least they're not advertising it as such. Unfortunately, mac and cheese is one of my favorite foods in the entire world, and I can say with absolute certainty that the mac uncheese does not hold a candle to the real thing. If I were vegan, I would be all over this place. But I'm not, and my meal just left me clamoring for real soul food. Like, with dead animals, fried and smoked for my pleasure.

This is not the food I want to eat. It's the food I feel like I should eat, cuz it will help the earth or some bunnies or my heart or some other thing. But that doesn't ring, "Yummy!" I'm confused. I'm confused because this vegan food is delicious. I was surprised. Before dinner, I thought I'd be writing a review that asked the questions, "Have you thought about salt? Or glutamate/umame? Or spice? Or vinegar?", and yet this food is homey and fulfilling. I'm an omnivore, a damn fine cook not well-versed in vegetarian cuisine. Vegan food seems to fall into two categories: 1) stuff that starts with vegetables and builds from there, resulting in huge salads with beets and tahini dressing, or 2) food designed to remind you of the comforts you grew up on. Cornbread Cafe falls decidedly in the latter. A lot of things taste like meat. It's weird. The Mac unCheese didn't actually taste like cheese - it tasted like perfectly-cooked macaroni bathed in an authentic chicken bouillon bechamel. The country gravy tasted like a cast-iron meat gravy, seasoned with Worcestershire sauce. Although my hubby's phish sticks weren't exactly fried cod, they were pretty close to the fish sticks I grew up on. I don't know how they do this. Aside from the meaty non-meat, the greens (spinach) were decent and the cole slaw was vibrant and creamy, without ever touching a cow. The signature cornbread was not the best I've eaten but good in its own right. I just wish there were much more jalepeno flavor than a few flecks across the top. The interior's been remodled, which I appreciate, and it arrives at a Brady Bunch cafeteria with a little hippy-dippy thrown in. The food is seasoned well, which is an unfortunate rarity. I had this vegan work friend years ago. We'd trade off hosting Trashy Reality TeeVee Wednesdays, so every other week I'd make dinner without any animal products. I liked the challenge, but it wasn't easy. The people down at Cornbread Cafe have clearly fought this good fight.

Went here for the "Harvest menu" but they were out. This turned out to be a happy accident as my hosts assured me the item I really wanted was the "Eugenewich", which was not available on the Harvest Menu. What arrived at the table was a towering inferno of fried veggie goodness, with a big knife stabbing through it. I got the crinkle fries on the side, which were ok, but nothing to write home about. The sandwich, on the other hand, was one of those items where every bite had a different flavor to it, due to the number of ingredients and the layering of the items. The waitress was sweet as anything on what was clearly a crazy night and full of unexpected "we're out of..."s. I would definitely recommend this place to vegheads and omnivores alike for a taste of comfort food.

Wow. Amazing food and friendly service. Try the Eugenewich and you will not be let down; it is perfectly greasy. The coconut cream pie was divine. I live in Portland, but will visit this cafe anytime I am in Eugene.

The service was OK. The pricing was a bit high. I ordered the country breakfast: biscuits and gravy, some fried something or another that was supposed to be like chicken, and potatoes. It was OK. I couldn't eat the biscuits. They seriously tasted like dust. Just disgusting. So dry because they don't use any dairy but for some reason they couldn't find a substitue to make their biscuits have a little more moisture. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles and his was great. Just don't order anything with biscuits and you should be alright. Unfortunately, when you go there for breakfast, you don't have a lot of options without biscuits.

Good lord this is some serious eatin'! I live in the bay area, home to some of the BEST vegan food in the world and I have to say I was incredibly impressed with the quality of food served up at this little eatery. Before becomming vegan I never liked fish, but since "phish" is the specialty dish here, I had to try and damn was it GOOD. I think I actually liked it more than the southern fried tofu which I would never have expected. Also, probably some of the best vegan mac n cheese I've ever had. Seriously, I can't say enough about the food here, try it for yourself. The owner is the chef and a wonderful and warm person so make yourself a regular and enjoy some smiles and tasty vegan eats.

If I were vegan, I might give this place 4 stars. However, I'm rating this place according to my regular standard and it was just OK. I wish I remembered what I ordered, but none of it was memorable. Granted, the trailer is pretty cute and the employees were friendly, but the compliments should probably stop there. Ah, that sounds so mean! I really wanted to like this place...

The food is Amazing, the service was great; a cool atmosphere with Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley in the backgroud and retro trivial pursuit cards at each booth. I had an EPIC portobello dish seasoned to perfection. It came with 2 sides, I chose the mashed potatoes with gravy which tasted more like traditional brown gravy than my Grandmother's (minus the animal fat) and the sassy slaw which was refreshing and simple, focused on the red cabbage. Oh and the cornbread, mine came with jalepenos, enough said. BTW, don't ask for a diet coke ;)

Everything was absolutely fantastic. Extremely comfortable atmosphere, ridiculously friendly people, a dude playing an acoustic guitar and singing. I had a BBQ Seitan sandwich and fries and it was tasty and cooked perfectly and I'm just overjoyed and excited with the feeling that I need to keep going back until I eat everything on the menu. Obviously if you are vegan/vegetarian you need to go here, but even if you aren't the food is undeniably awesome.

I was so excited about this place based on Yelp reviews, but it was really disappointing. We came in around 1 on a Saturday afternoon, and the place was dead. But it was cuuuuuuute, I do love the decor. The (really nice!) waitress said they just finished the lunch rush. My husband ordered the special which was supposedly a garbanzo bean burger. There were no garbanzo beans in it. I ordered the BBQ seitan, "sassy" slaw, and I think the macaroni? With the cornbread. The seitan wasn't even hot, and it was all chewy like it had been held in a hot case for a long time. The BBQ sauce was too sugary and had nothing special about it. The slaw was not sassy, it barely even had a vinegar zing. The cornbread was dull. It was basically an elementary school cafeteria lunch that happened to be vegan.

Extremely delicious. As a vegan, I was in absolute heaven. However, even my meat-loving boyfriend was impressed. He got the reuben, which was so, so good. I've had several vegan reubens and this was the best. He also loved the fries, though I don't care so much about that. I got a platter with chicken-fried tempeh, spinach, and cole slaw. Everything was awesome. Quirky atmosphere with quirky waitstaff.

The Cornbread Cafe has opened a restaurant in the old Deb's on 7th street in Eugene. As happy as I am for them and their expanding business I do have an issue with this new venture. It completely undermines my ability to eat better and stay on track with my "not overindulging." How am I supposed to ignore their ridiculously good southern fried tofu? How am I going to order said tofu dish without getting a heaping pile of the taters and gravy to go with it? And since I'm not one to waste food, I won't be able to NOT eat the incredible corn bread that comes as a side. Not to mention the great atmosphere, friendly service and that all that great food I mentioned above, was only $9! I mean come on..great home cooked comfort food, served with a smile and for less than the cost of grandiventiwhatever at Starbucks? I think this is the beginning of their devious plot to get everyone to eat Vegan. As for me.....I already drank the kool-aid. You should too.

Definitely the best vegan food in Eugene! Oh man! Makes me really believe that I could be vegan and not miss meat. Everything I've had from here is great. Mac un cheese, colard greens, bbq pork, CORNBREAD!!! All great. They will even sell you the "cheese" sauce so you can make your own mac un cheese. You can use it in baked potatoes and in salsa or whatever you can think of that you would normally put cheese on. The owners are so nice here. I always feel welcome and taken care of. Try Cornbread Cafe!! You won't be disappointed!

Right. Vegan has never appealed to me. Not the food, not the lifestyle, and not the scrawny vegan chicks who look like they need both a bath and a hamburger. Tonight, I changed my mind. About the food. The chicken fried tempeh was actually good. Not just "good" in the polite way you mumble it when the chef asks you how it is, nor in the way you'll say after eating something supposedly hip or good for the environment, but genuinely, actually, really (get my drift?) good. In short, here is what I never thought I would say: I'll eat there again.

Stopped in to check out the Occupy Eugene encampment nearby and needed some food before hitting the road again, so Yelped vegetarian restaurants for something new. If not for Yelp or the "vegan comfort food" sign, I'd never stop here, since it looks like some throw-back, whitebread diner, not what most people would think of as a typical Eugene hippie-vegan place. That's obviously their shtick, a vegan version of the classic diner look, with framed '50s ads for girdles and bras in the washroom. It's cute, down to the mason jars for drinking glasses. The waitress was friendly and service was fairly fast. I had the Eugenewich, which I'll give three stars. I've got some amazing vegan-cook friends. I'm kind of spoiled that way, so take that into account. With the good service, I'll give the place a solid four stars.

Little did I know that they were doling out food from a parked trailer. They would be a great rival to Souley Vegan if they were in the Bay Area. The menu is short and sweet, with build your own platters, and a number of different sandwich meals. The lady was nice enough to offer samples. I tried the Phish ("fish" sticks) based on recommendations here. It was phenomenal, not to mention the vegan tarter sauce to along with it. The Mac unCheese was great, as was the Sassy Slaw. (I didn't care too much for the cornbread.) They're closed Sundays, so I knew I wouldn't be able to make it back for a second trip. But I wanted to taste as many items on the menu as I could, and asked for a taste of the Southern Fried Tofu. It had that crispy breading, and had chicken down to a T. It was so delicious, I ended up ordering the tofu sandwich, which came with a side of fries. It would've made for a perfect meal, had I not eaten back to back meals. At that point, the slaw had become much too sassy for me. Portions are good, and they're cheap!

My friend and I drove down from Portland to Eugene for a concert and the original place we planned to eat dinner at was closed. So I just randomly picked Cornbread Cafe from a list I had emailed myself. WOW! It was so hard to decide what to order from the ample menu of vegan comfort food. I had the build your own meal with "chick'n fried" tempeh, mashed potatoes and gravy, greens and cornbread (gluten free!). I decided to be "healthy" and get greens instead of mac-n-cheese, which would've just been an insane mistake for my stomach. But my mouth and eyes were screaming for carbs. This massive pile of stick to your vegan ribs home cookin' love on a platter was a mere $9. It was so good that I ate the whole thing despite being substantially full about halfway through. It was so good that I suffered from a stomach ache for a full 24 hours afterwards because of overeating (not because of the food quality). I also loved the retro diner ambiance/ decor. Wish this place was in Portland (but my diet is glad it's safely tucked 2 hours away in Eugene). My only suggestion would be 1) to serve Earth Balance with the cornbread while it's still warm and 2) offer jam (they don't have any). My friend was also disappointed that she couldn't order iced tea with her southern style meal. I will definitely be back to Cornbread Cafe. Thanks for the great chow!

After what felt like an endless wait, Cornbread Cafe has finally re-opened, in an actual restaurant location, at the corner of 7th and Polk. Every single thing on the menu is vegan, and every single thing is delicious. As mentioned by others, this is the type of vegan food that falls into the 'mystery' category--as in, how exactly have they done it? Every time I encounter somebody who says they "don't like" vegan food or, worse, makes a unconscious sneer at even the thought of it, I wish I had the power to force those people, yes, force them at gunpoint, to sit down inside of Cornbread Cafe and eat the BBQ strips, the Mac unCheese, the Greens, and some Cornbread. I wouldn't have to hold the gun long, because Mister or Miss Closed-Minded would be hooked from the first bite. If it's your first time, I'd suggest the items above, but really everything is great. Thank you Cornbread Cafe--you are making Eugene a better place.

Date Visited: Friday 11/11/11 (Dinner) There was a lot of decision making as far as where to go to dinner in Eugene. I was cold and tired from driving and nothing seemed all that interesting. Cornbread Cafe was within walking distance and since I didn't want to drive anymore, I decided to brave the cold and suggested we go there. While I appreciate a good carb overload, the food here didn't wow my tastebuds. Service was nice and the food was done quickly, so I gave an additional star for that. Spazz really enjoyed the food and probably would have given this place 4 stars. I had 5-star food earlier in the day, so maybe that's why I would only give this 2 stars for the food. ANYWAY, they have a ton of food. You can build your own dinner by selecting an item from 4 categories. I went with the chicken fried tempeh, mashed potatoes with gravy, some greens (though I "traded" with Spazz and got mac and cheese), and the original cornbread. Nothing hit the spot with me though the tempeh was good. The gravy kinda ruined my mashed potatoes by making it all extra salty or something. The mac and cheese had a strange taste that I could easily pass up. I was bored by the cornbread. I even made a face while trying my first Shirley Temple. Apparently, I don't like authentic ginger ale. It's possible my appetite was affected by the drive, so please consider the higher star ratings and give it a try for yourself. Again....the staff was nice. The owner is very cool. You get a LOT of food that will fill you up for a good price.

The BBQ seitan was great! The slaw was good, too, light and flavorful. The cornbread was dense and sweeter - more so than the way I normally make mine so it was a nice change. The Mac unCheese was only okay - not bad but could have used a little more salt and maybe nutritional yeast and turmeric to bump up the flavor and color. The service was polite, friendly and efficient.

I am very much not a vegan, but I went to this place with some friends who had heard rave reviews. I was extremely skeptical. So skeptical in fact I ordered fries as one of my sides just in case the food was as terrible as I thought it would be. I had the barbecue seitan and the mac un-cheese. I cannot even begin to count the number of times I said, "How is this not actually meat??" or "Are you sure they don't just sneak some cheese into this?" My taste buds and brain were both confused and I began to SERIOUSLY question my life choices. They also had some amazing sounding dessert choices, but we were all way too full to try them. I'll have to go back soon!

Yum. Loved the fish sticks with salad. My partner enjoyed his special of the day, Fish Tacos. We both really like the crunch served up as well! Wish these gals a great deal of success. Anyone who begins with a food cart and dreams big enough to take a historic landmark location called, "Debs": known for early morning breakfast, served with a classic "Folgers" cup of joe - and turn it into a hip, funky jivin' vegan place, deserves success. We think they are on to somethin'. Look forward to watching these girls spin out some new stuff beyond fish sticks and fried tofu. How bout a side of beans with that or start taking a look at cajun flavors? Get the chef to spin some more magic. Oh and music. Sweet southern style music. "Ya' all come back now, ya' hear!"

Who knew that vegan food could be so delicious and satisfying? I had no idea before I came here, because I am not a vegan, and my all of my comfort foods involve cheese, meat and/or fish. This unsuspecting trailer is home to probably the best homemade vegan food in the area (I'm guessing, since I was visiting from Cali.) The deep fried tofu with agave-mustard dipping sauce was awesome and tasted fattening, and not light and airy, like I feared. The mac UN cheese wasn't exactly like mac n' cheese, but I didn't except it to be... it was still all creamy and all good. The sassy slaw was plenty moist...I couldn't tell the different between the vegan mayo and the real stuff... and the corn bread was a bit dry, but I didn't mind. It all tasted so fattening and good, but while I left full, I didn't feel like I needed to be rolled out of there. When I went to leave, I couldn't find the key to my bike, which was tied up by the trailer. While I was searching the area for hella long, the concerned chef came out and gave me one of her homemade chocolate peanut butter cups to cheer me up. How nice is that? (And my key turned out to be smashed in my sports bra.) Whether or not you are vegan, this place is definitely worth a visit!!

Seriously, LOVE Cornbread. My entire family (I am the only Vegan) loves it! Everything that I have tried is wonderful and the owner is a delight! We were in one time for lunch and she asked us if we would like to try a cheesecake sample. It was INSANE. So good. Unfortunately we went for my birthday in October and the cheesecake was nasty, but we do realize that the owner wasn't present and sometimes things change in consistency from cook to cook. (Honestly even our Eugenewich's were off that night too.) But that hasn't stopped us from going back and telling everyone we know about how amazing Cornbread Cafe is! We will sure miss this place when we move to Portland this week! But we know we will visit whenever we are in Eugene!

This place is so exciting. I had a sh*t-eating grin from the moment we pulled up until we finished our chocolate cream pie. I ordered the nachos with shredded pork, the fried "chicken" with mac n' cheese and greens, and finished with the pie. Yes. It was a vegan fat girl weekend. I loved everything but the highlights were the mac n' cheese and the friggin corn bread smothered in friggin' agave. Yum. Also, the owner herself was our server - she was super nice, had great suggestions, and really in the know about the social issues my fellow diners and I were discussing (environmental and animal law!). Finally, I love the decor of this place. It's like greasy-spoon diner meets the circus. In a good way, of course!

Yum! While this vegan soul food might not count as healthy, it's definitely a animal-guilt free indulgence that could keep even the most ardent of carnivores guessing: "How did they make this?" The Phish sticks really were phishy, in a stick it in some tartar sauce kind of way. The Southern tofu was definitely like a chicken nugget of sorts, minus beak and bone. Both fried treats had a perfect breading, light and crispy and obviously done with very clean oil. The mac-un-cheez was a winner, and I would come back for a bucket of that goodness. The "mess o greens" was nicely acidic pile of cooked spinach and it really balanced the plate out.

My partner and I are newly Vegtarian/working our way to Vegan...we have been exploring local vegetarian and/or vegan restaurants, so I decided for date night we would get some Cornbread Cafe to bring home as I wasn't feeling well. I was a bit skeptical as the reviews go from amazing... to hit or miss the last few months. I ordered the Moody Portabello ( when I asked if there were any white Vegan cheese to add the not-very-polite woman on the phone said she "thought" there was just one yellow. I'm pretty sure if you work at a restaurant you should either KNOW or ASK! So I got it the way it comes off the menu, with cornbread as a side. My partner ordered Mac-Uncheese and Salad with their Goddess dressing (which came unmade, a container of vinegar/container of oil, which took us a moment to figure out since they were in a separate box from the salad itself, lol). Upon leaving with the food he was sent out the door with 5 boxes (2 large 3 little) and nothing to carry them with. my Portabello sandwich(for the record this is one of my fav sandwiches, I have had them many times at other locations before I was Vegetarian and normally LOVE the Mushroom), I ended up with a side of cornbread soaked in greens/onions juice, most likely from the boxes sliding all over in the car. The sandwich had a VERY odd flavor almost Mildewy or over spiced with something, I'm really not sure...as well as a very stringy Mushroom patty, I made it 1/3 through before feeling sick and my cornbread didn't taste good soaked in grilled onion. My partner ended up splitting his dinner of Man Uncheese (which I thought was pretty good actually) and his salad. Rather disappointing since I was still starving after dinner and hadn't eaten all day to begin with :( Not sure why Cornbread seems to be so hit or miss lately judging by the reviews and my own experience.

Vegan. Soul food. From a trailer. Smack dab in between my house and the Bier Stein. I really don't think I should need to say more than that. But here are some highlights: - Southern fried tofu sandwich. Just do it. There's something about that sassy slaw that gets up in with the mustard and the breading on the tofu and creates a little party in your mouth. - Mess o'greens. I love these so much that I swap them in with my sandwich instead of fries. Now, I bet you're asking "WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD SWAP IN GREENS FOR POTATOES?" I would. Because they're that good. - Mac unCheese. Doesn't taste vegan - but is. Delicious. Just go. Don't think of it as a "hippie-healthy-attempt-at-soul-food" because that's not what it is. It's just down-home comfort food that happens to be vegan. And delicious.

Phish circa 1987 Jam band for smelly aging hippies that like taking hallucinogenic mushrooms and melting into the sounds of musical improvisation. Phish circa 2010 Deep fried tofu for smelly nearly deceased hippies that still like hallucinogenic mushrooms and melting into the taste of aquatic vertebrate substitution. All jokes aside I was impressed with the fake fish. One might say I was hooked after a sample was offered. Mac-un-Cheez was illegally good. How mac and cheese can taste so good without cheese is likely an operational secret. A plate with 3 sides was 7 dollars, which was decently priced when you consider two of us shared one plate. Check them out on Phacebook- facebook.com/pages/Eugen…

I never expected this place to be as good as it was. I went with a few friends, and we all enjoyed everything we ordered. The Barbeque Pull-A-Parts and Southern Fried Tofu were tasty. The Mac unCheese was suspicious looking at first, but it soon became my favorite part of the meal. I liked the Mess O' Greens, but the Sassy Slaw was a little more up my alley. We were a little confused about dining in, since everyone in front of us got orders to go, but we eventually discovered a table with seating for 4 in the back. Be wary that space is limited though. From now on I'll probably plan on getting my order to go.

The food is outstanding!! You wouldn't even believe its vegan! The portabella burger is my fave so far. The service is great too! Can't wait to go back!

Went by today and was very pleased with what we ordered. One of the plates, which came with a side of cornbread and two choices of other sides. I got the BBQ wheat, which was very good, the sassy slaw (also good, though I'd probably go a little lighter on the veganaise myself), and the mess o'greens, which were my favorite - absolutely delicious! There was fresh agave available for the cornbread, and for $7.25, it was a lot of food. They also had root beer floats and delicious strawberry shortcake. Fantastic that all of it was vegan, but I agree with the reviewers that it was good by any standard, not just good "because it's vegan." Owner and person working there were very nice, and I love the concept of healthy Southern food. Can't wait to try their peanut butter pie or black eyed peas, and I'm wondering why it took me so long to visit their cart. Great addition to the Eugene food scene!

These ladies are at the top of their genre. If you want some homestyle comfort food, vegan style, this is the place! I really like their ideas for involving other businesses in their building space and their goals for community involvement. Great job ladies!

Good, solid food. I've been here twice with my husband, we've tried the BBQ seitan, Eugenewich, potatoes/gravy, greens, cornbread, mac uncheese, etc. I think my favorite thing to eat there is the mashed potatoes and gravy.. probably the best I've ever had. Last time we were there we got a slice of peanut butter pie with chocolate crust.. OMG! Amazing! If I lived in Eugene, I'd definitely be a regular.

Awesome, fun decor. Delicious food---love, love, love the Sunday brunch (classic or benedict are favorites). I haven't tried a lot of the dinner menu---I stick to the potatoes, mac uncheese and fried tofu. I've also liked the portabella.

The bbq was delicious and the mac n cheese is slap yo momma good. The cornbread was light and so flavorful. We were given samples of the chocolate brownie and I couldn't believe it was vegan. The staff was friendly and really helpful. I will be back.

I have long been in love with their Eugenewich and it is often a decadent and delicious treat. Now... They've gone and started serving breakfast. 8-11sat & 8-2 Sun. Since breakfast foods are the tour de force of comfort foods in my book, it seemed a natural step. Oh heavens above! It was one small step for food and one giant leap for happy-tummy-food-coma kind. I have yet to have something I didn't flat out love on the breakfast menu. All Vegan and Filling!

Now that Cornbread Café has moved into a new location, I figure it's time for a new review. The new location looks great! The new paint job really gives the interior some retro charm, and I like that they have some games you can play, trivia cards, etc. Also, the staff seemed very nice and attentive (though they did forget all the sauces and butter that were supposed to come with our food). Parking was super easy and it's well-signed coming via 7th. The food is still quite good. The BBQ tofu (or maybe it's seitan) and southern-fried tofu were quite tasty, the mac uncheese was good, and the mashed potatoes and gravy were nicely done. I don't normally like cornbread, but I'll say their cornbread is moist and seems fresh, so I assume fans will enjoy it. Everything I've tried is really solid, and it's amazing they can offer wheat-free and gluten-free options. Eugene is very, very fortunate to have such a place locally. I think if the staff took a trip down to Souley Vegan in Oakland, though (they're now offering cooking classes!), they could see that one step more they could take into pure deliciousness of vegan soul food. Souley Vegan still sets the standard for the most delicious vegan soul food possible (though admittedly seems less health-concerned than Cornbread, but I don't eat comfort food for my cholesterol). Writing this review, I think I'll head over right now and have some more. You know, for science.

This popped my vegan cherry. The server/owner gave me a first class tour to veganopolis. I had what she called was the "first timer" that was southern-fried tofu, mac-n-non-cheese, and greens. I was curious about the mashed taters and gravy so she brought us a sample. I could've fooled my husband with that gravy!! It was amazing. The mac-n-cheese was hard to believe there wasn't real cheese in there. The breading on the tofu was the best I've had. Everything I tried had complex flavor. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because this was my first vegan experience so I didn't have anything to compare it to.

I think I've officially eaten everything on the menu, and it has all been delicious. I thought the phish was my favorite, then the southern fried tofu, but I'm pretty sure that now the BBQ is on the top of my list. They also have some great specials (and desserts), and it's helpful to follow them on facebook so you know what they are. The diner itself is rad and the service is great.

This place is amazing! After a long drive from Cali my BF and I were so happy to find this place. We left two happy very full vegans. I had the French dip and it was out of this world. If I lived in OR I would go here all the time!

I so wish that people would stop making that face when I say vegan and just try it! I'm a vegetarian but eat vegan often and this is some of the best food I've had in awhile. I had the southern fried tofu with sassy slaw and mac un-cheese. The tofu was perfectly crispy and not greasy and the bbq sauce was great. The sassy slaw was also really good and I can't believe it was mayo free. The mac un-cheese was so creamy and tasty I had to slap my boyfriend's fork away. Eventually I did share so I could get a taste of his biscuits and gravy and, wow! For food and a fresh apple juice for both of us was around 12$! I kept checking to make sure the total was right. If you want good comfort food, I encourage anyone to try Cornbread Cafe no matter what your dietary preferences, it's just good food served by really nice people!

I'm a big-time carnivore, but that fried tempe somehow has a better flavor then a lot of the fried chicken I've ordered... which is a lot. Mac un cheese, cornbread too... everything I've tried has been delicious! My first time I came with a friend on a crazy busy Saturday morning, and the service was understandably slow since there was just one poor dude having to keep track of a every single table and bar stool being filled. I went again by myself mid-week with a book, and had a super pleasant lunch. I hung around for a while to read and enjoy a few coffee refills, feeling totally at ease since the server--a sunny and cheery woman with a sing-songy accent--is the bestbestbest waitress I've ever encountered in all of Eugene! Bafflingly nice, charming and attentive, I adored her so much I gave her all the cash I had, which was a fairly generous tip, but not nearly as much as I wanted to give. Oh, and I'm in love with the funky retro diner vibe... I wish this place could be open all the time because Eugene desperately needs a 24 diner, and this is the kind of place I would hang out drinking coffee and eating pie after the bars closed.

All that comes to mind right now is yum. My son tried the Phish sticks and my oldest daughter had the grilled cheese. Everyone was satisfied when we left and I can't say that for every restaurant. My daughter is a very picky vegetarian. LOL Even my youngest Loved the batter fried tofu. I think we'll be visiting here again next time we are in Eugene. I for one can't wait. :)

I admit it, I came here with high expectations, and one should never visit a place with such. It could've been the mood of the meal, but I wasn't 5-star impressed. I was optimistic about how the food was gonna be healthy and taste unhealthy --vegan southern comfort food, yum! But I just left hungry and cold. I admit the mac 'n cheese was good, but it tasted better cold, which should never happen because I like my food hot and most food taste better hot. The cornbread was ok, just a little too crumbly. I had the tofu with the bbq sauce and that was decent. Lastly, I had the hot coco, and that was a mistake because it was $$pricey for probably 3/4 cup. What a rip. I doubt I'll return. Perhaps if I was vegan I'd appreciate the food more and how it is just like regular soul food. I think another reason why I was disappointed was because the food is set to imitate soul food, but with substituted ingredients -- and it just didn't taste as good.

I really like this restaurant. Their cornbread is amazing. Still trying to recreate it in my kitchen. For a cold, rainy Eugene winter day, nothing like their chili and cornbread. My friends are nuts for their faux pulled pork bbq sandwich. Cole slaw is good, too, and I'm very picky about my slaw. I eat here whenever I can.

Just had the vegan BBQ with mac 'n cheese, saucy greens, and of course, corn bread. All I can say is yummalicious! Still the best lunch to be found in Eugene.

As a vegetarian, I'm always looking to up my game, so was eager to check out this vegan/gf establishment. The menu was comprehensive and reasonably priced and the atmosphere delightful. Waitstaff was pleasantly accommodating to our group of 5 which straggled in, especially when we camped out in the back booth catching up with one another. My entree was tasty and clever; I'll be back to try others. There's always room for improvement in *any* venture, hence the 4 star rating, but very worthwhile and highly recommended.

Wow. can hardly do justice with mere words. My family went while in town, then we returned for food to go before continuing on our road trip. We all enjoyed (& shared) 4 meals, though the phish & chips and the BBQ pull-a-part were clear favorites. Mashed potatoes with gravy, corn bread, and the beautiful sassy slaw were great, too. The vegan marshmallows in my kids' hot chocolate was a great touch! Oh, and the hospitality was fabulous!

This place makes very good food at affordable prices. Here's what my wife and I had: *Nachos - extremely good! *BBQ seitan - sauce is great; I'm not a fan of processed meat replacers but my wife liked it. *Portabella mushroom - EXTREMELY good! I'm still trying to figure out what was in the sauce... Liquid aminos, rice wine vinegar, brown sugar? *Cooked spinach - tasty but cooked in WAY too much Earth Balance. *Mashed potatoes & gravy - Great! *Coleslaw - light & tasty. *Mac uncheese - fairly decent, a good compliment to the other dishes but the uncheese sauce was more of a hit on the nachos. *Pineapple upside down cake - tasty but a bit too dry. I got the last slice so it may have just been old. *Key lime pie - VERY tasty. Kudos to CC for making a fresh, vegan fruit pie. The filling was a greenish-brown (as a truly fresh pie with no artificial ingredients should be) and the crust was light, flaky and buttery. Service was extremely friendly and efficient. My only gripe is that the diner seemed a little run down and/or dirty.

Their new jalapeno cornbread is so good. Denser in texture than their original style (which they still offer) and enough jalapenos to offer a slight kick and plenty of flavor. Love, love, love it. They're also going to be selling jars of their amazing uncheese sauce. And they take credit cards now, too. Can't wait until they have a storefront location!

This cafe was underwhelming in a major way. For a place called CornBread Cafe you might be lead to believe that the corn bread would be decent if not life changing but as it turns out, by group consensus we determined that the corn bread actually tasted more like fish than the faux fish sticks. Not to mention the fish sticks, bbq tofu and the chicken fried tempeh were all mysteriously similar to one another. Meaning to say they were all breaded, baked, wads of faux mystery meat equivalent to your middle school cafeteria's . On the other hand the gravy and mashed potatoes were delicious and the service was friendly. I am not a picky eater but I was definitely disappointed.

yum, yum, yummy! We weren't sure what to expect from this cafe but I had been attracted to the idea from when they were a cart. Had a Living Social offer so we gave them a shot. Totally worth it and we will be back for sure! Great service (we were there Saturday at around 3:30 and the woman who waited on us was super helpful, patient and nice and seemed to be genuinely glad that we were there), great food (especially the gravy and the Eugenian!), clean and kitschy, got our food in a very timely manner. Fresh and delicious and made with flair and care! Quiet when we got there, but filled up quickly as it got closer to dinner time. Already satiated when I got one of their biscuits "to go". It came hot to the table with gravy and so only half of it actually fulfilled the "to go" idea. Really one of the best biscuits I have had. The irony, perhaps, of this whole experience is that we aren't vegan and had just come from M of C with some pork sausages to throw on the grill for Sunday. I'd trade my pork sausages in a second for another meal at Cornbread!!

We travel in a motorcoach and are always seeking vegan/vegetarian resturants to eat in. We have eaten in most of them in Eugene, Or. and we can state that the Cornbread Cafe is number one in the city.

My friends and I ordered takeout and I had the eugenewich and fries. Sampled the French dip, buffalo tofu hot things, Mac uncheese, mashed potatoes and gravy and something else I'm forgetting. All VERY TASTY. Would recommend to anyone vegan or not. Corn bread was very good but I wish I'd been able to try the jalapeño corn bread.

HOLY (vegan) COW. Cornbread Cafe has got it goin' on. Seriously good food, and I'm not even (anywhere close to) a vegan. My boyfriend & I moved to Eugene last September, and Cornbread Cafe was one of the first places we attempted to go (after conducting a Yelp search of local spots, naturally). We visited the original food cart on E. 13th Avenue mid-afternoon (close to 3 PM), and it was closing down for the day/out of nearly all its most popular dishes. So, we decided to come back another time. Fast forward 10 months, and we had yet to re-visit Cornbread Cafe (I know, boo us). Last week, we noticed they were opening a full-scale restaurant @ 1290 W. 7th Avenue, super close to our apartment... booyah! So we went in today for a to-go lunch, just four days after its grand opening. Based on the hostess's recommendation, my BF ordered the Eugenewich (with a side of [gluten-free] Mashed Potatoes & Gravy), and I ordered a build-your-own plate of Southern Fried Tofu (with Agave Dijon sauce), Mac unCheese, Sassy Slaw, and Jalapeno Cornbread. The small bite of the Eugenewich that I had was fantastically full of flavor, and the gravy on top of the mashed potatoes was truly divine. The mashed potatoes themselves were only lacking in what butter (and butter alone) can bring to a dish, flavor-wise (so no penalty there, we were willingly eating vegan food). The fry batter on the exterior of my Southern Fried Tofu was perfectly light (in texture, not taste!), and incredibly flavorful; it paired extremely well with the Agave Dijon dipping sauce. As a bona fide mac & cheese addict, I was a bit hesitant to try the Mac unCheese, but I was absolutely not disappointed. While it's pretty clearly a vegan dish, that's not at all a criticism (in the case of Cornbread Cafe's version); the "cheese sauce" was surprisingly rich, and very yummy. The Sassy Slaw wasn't notably spectacular, but definitely good (and a crisp, refreshing side). Finally, the Jalapeno Cornbread was moist, perfectly spicy, and definitely worth having its (partial) name in the restaurant's title. We'll absolutely be back to Cornbread Cafe for more vegan yumminess, and soon!

Our family of 4 was able to order most of the menu and we were thoroughly impressed with all we had, but mostly with the "phish" and mac n "cheese". portions are very good and you will not leave hungry. food quality is tremendous, highly recommended for vegans and even meat-eaters would surely love the the sides and/or maybe the tofu if adventurist.

Wake up your tastebuds! I got the BBQ sandwich with mac uncheese--messy but worth it. Service is super friendly, and the tables in back offered a cozy spot to scarf down the tasty concoctions. Looking forward to working my way through the menu.

Cornbread Cafe has got it going on. I'm a proud meat eater, and I tend to dislike "vegetarian" cuisine in general. Overbearing Nutritional Yeast flavor and texture issues are common failures, but neither of these even entered my mind when i sampled the fare. However she does it, every foodstuff I consumed at this up-and-coming Eugene staple food cart was done perfectly. The fish stick tasted like fish sticks, and had a great texture. The Tartar sauce was fab, coleslaw perfect, mashers mashtastic, gravy GRAVY(thats damn good), cornbread excellent, mac and cheese stupendous and the list goes on like that. Oh yeah... the service was prompt and polite, parking not an issue, and I almost forgot I was eating vegetarian food. Soooo pleased

For delicious vegan comfort food, come to Cornbread Cafe! There are plenty of vegan salad joints in town, come here for a little splurge on delicious animal product-free fare. Easy parking and location make it super accessible. Indoor or outdoor seating available. Every seat in the house has views of the weird Eugene outside. Plus lots of games to play at your table while you wait for your grub. Like many Yelpers suggest, try the Eugenewich! You're welcome in advance. The creamy sauce is packed with smokey and spiced flavor. The tofu is beyond any tofu I've tasted, with a crispy, light, breading. I like the light nutty flavor of tofu, but this was elevated and treated with care. Cajon fries are a must! If you have a phobia of tofu or just craving a burger, do the burger. My guy had it with mashed taters and gravy. The gravy is homemade, perfect for dipping my French fries into. Bathrooms are gender neutral and they will make you think twice about gendered restrooms - as I did a double take to read the "anyone" signs on the door. You win major points here guys! We will be back to try the frozen peanut butter pie we didn't have room for!

The food was amazing and it tasted so wonderful I was absolutely in heaven. Service was great cost very reasonable, great menu and freshly made food. The biscuit & gravy is amazing along with the fried chicken and waffle with gravy. I only wished I lived there to have their food more often and to try every item on the menu. Again the food was awesome. I highly recommend Cornbread Cafe.

It should be illegal how good the food here is...and vegan too?!?! I just can't describe the absolute glee I experienced when eating the Eugenewich. It was like nothing else I have ever experienced vegan or non vegan (i mean that in a good way ha!). The diner atmosphere is the perfect set up for a joint like this. the service was a little slow but I came well after typical lunch hours so that was most likely why. I can't wait to come back and try some other menu items.

Most delicious and creative vegan menu I've experienced. I had the Classic and my girlfriend had the Country. We could not have asked for a more flavorful brunch. The interior of the restaurant has a cute and kitchy retro vibe. There are games to play at your leisure and trivia on every table. Our waiter was pleasant, attentive, and most importantly, welcoming. This will be a must stop spot for us anytime in Eugene!

Walked into the Cornbread Cafe on a sleepy August Sunday. Had never tried this place, but I love Vegan food 'done right', and had heard nothing but good things. We opted to sit on the patio, which was nice in the late summer morning air. Unfortunately they didn't offer a solid alternative to cream for my coffee- coconut milk just doesn't cut it- so I was forced to walk a block to get an espresso drink at a stand. No biggie. My friend & I both order the vegan biscuits & gravy, full order. We get the food fairly fast, and right off my buddy notices a hair in the gravy. "Must keep it proper on the dna ingestion" he says & picks it out. No biggie. I dig into mine.. Pretty good, but it tastes really high on the sodium-tilt: salty. The biscuits as well as the gravy, both very salty. Then, about halfway through my plate I notice a hair in MY gravy! I pull it out, covered in gravy.. A full 4" hair. Then my friend starts really inspecting his, and sure enough finds another hair in his gravy! Right at this moment through sheer luck I suppose, the waitress comes to check on us. I mention that we've both found hairs in our food at this point.. She sort of shrugs it off & says something about someone else finding hair in their food the other day, and "I don't know it must be something to do with the new cook"... Uh yeah, like they don't wear a fucking hair net?!?! This kind of lackadaisical 'west coast' attitude to service gets old quick. They ended up giving us a $4.50 discount on our bill, listed as "customer complaint". The gravy was mediocre before I found the hairs, and I love cream in my coffee. Doubt I'll be back to this place, but glad they exist for the Vegan community in Eugene. Someone just needs to tell them that human hair isn't technically vegan.

Roll me out the door, this place was excellent. Who knew vegan food could be so satisfying?!? Cornbread serves you grandmother's food with a different protein. We tried the vegan equivalent of fish and chips and chicken and gravy. Neither of us could finish our meal. Everything was flavorful, filling and freshly prepared. The desserts looked great as well, but we were too full to continue. They also have air conditioning. Yes.

We are long-time fans of Cornbread Cafe, beginning at the time when they used to be a tiny little foodtruck we happened to stumble upon while driving through Eugene years ago. While prices have gone up a bit since the foodtruck days, the quality of the food certainly hasn't and neither has the quality of the folks serving it up. One of my favorite things about eating here is that you leave genuinely full, but not in a way that leaves you needing a nap like lots of traditional Southern food does. :) I always anticipate being torn between the Eugenewich, Southern fried tofu and the Phish. My side dish options are also frequently a toss up of any combination of the mashed taters and cashew gravy, greens, mac uncheese, or ju jus. Oddly enough, despite its name, the cornbread is probably my least favorite item served. (But don't let that deter you; I am not a huge cornbread fan in general!) This is easily one of my favorite places to eat in Eugene and I will certainly be back again and again. (Besides I still need to try one of their incredible looking desserts sometime!)

I, The King, was alerted of a place where meat was being imitated. I thought that this cannot be. You cannot imitate meat, Such things are sorcery and they were calling it "Veganism." I must investigate these tales of scocery immediately he thought. As King, I must make sure that no harm comes to the meat eating inhabitants of his kingdom. For a King is the protector of his kingdom and all meat eaters alike. With much caution I entered the den of sorcery and was told to seat where ever The King chose. The King chose the small both in the rear of the den so that he may not cast any doubts of spying to the Sorcerers crafting their evil concoctions and of the ones taking coin from poor unsuspecting peasants, that thought they just feasted on meat. One of the Scorceress' finally came to my booth and told The King that she forgot about him. The King was not too happy to hear this. I ordered the biscuits and gravy and the monstrosity called a Eugenewich, that was a fav amongst it's patrons. The King's cup of water was filled and my feast had arrived. The King first tried the biscuits and gravy. At first, I did not notice a difference and assumed it was made from pork, the tales of sorcery were coming true. I continued to eat, but the dish was a bit too salty for The King's taste. The King had to add some spicy concoction made from the habenero pepper. Such sauce caused a severe burning sensation in my mouth as if he was being sodomized by the devil himself. Even with tearful eyes and a runny nose the sodomizing felt good. Many cups of water were needed to extinguish the flames and lessen the damage that the Devil's manhood had caused. Onto the next course. The Eugenewich was a giant amongst the dish it was laid upon. It also had a knife plunged into its center to be held together. Much like King Author pulling the sword from the stone, The King too pulled the knife triumphly from the Eugenewich and took a mighty bite and all he tasted was a dry bite with a heavy flavoring of oil. Very little of the sauce placed in the Eugenewich was to be seen or tasted. Bite after bite I tasted oil from the fried imitation meat patty and the added oily taste from the fried onions. I was at the end forcing himself to take another bite and in the end The King was defeated and couldn't eat anymore. It was not due to my stomach lacking space to be filled, but the taste as if licking the bottom of a pot with a coating of used oil and gristle. The King's views were turned with the biscuits and gravy, but then the Eugenewich brought him back from the reality that imitation meat can be equal to flamed flesh. Overall The King had mixed emotions about patronizing this den of sorcery, and concluded that this may be a good establishment for patrons who desire not to eat animals, it may be to their liking. The King, however, will continue his need of meat. I wistfully left my coin and escaped without the sorcerers knowing of my mission, so that The King may spread his view upon the future meat eating patrons. The King also was also told about this ingredient called Soy, which if eaten in abundance can cause men to grow breasts. Good thing I won't be frequenting this establishment, for then he would not have any need for his queen!

I love this resturant. The food is so good you will forget those vegan food stereotypes. I usually order the specials but everything I've had off the menu has been excellent as well. I don't know the name of the brunette waitress but she was fantastic as well.

Possibly the best vegan food I've had in a really long time! I've been vegan for almost 10 years, and upon moving to Oregon, found Cornbread Cafe. It is SO nice to be able to sit down and order whatever sounds good without having to explain what a vegan is and that cottage cheese is still considered dairy. I have enjoyed every single meal I've eaten here, especially "The Dip", and I HIGHLY recommend trying this restaurant, vegans and omnivores alike!

Came here with co-workers. I tried the BBQ seitan sammy, which was tasty. Because the seitan was crumbled it was kind of like a BBQ sloppy joe. My other coworkers got the french dip with sliced seitan that looked amazing and a Reuben. The ginger komboucha on tap was very good and I recommend it. My coworkers enjoyed their sweet tea. I wish they did breakfast all day, as I really wanted to try and "chicken" and waffles with gravy.

OMG!!! I was visiting Eugene and as I do anywhere that I visit, I had to search out the top rated Vegan/Vegetarian place and this is where I ended up! We were the first customers in the door and an eager staff grated us! I went with the famous Eugenewich and chose the Mac Uncheese as my side. My partner who hates "fake" cheese anything and she loved this dish. The Eugenewich was amazing and I will make sure to revisit any time I am in town.

Totally Vegan Comfort Food- on our way Portland and my daughter, a Vegan, knew about this place. I was skeptical but decided to go for it. Okay, I ate a Ruben sandwich that was to die for. My daughter ate the Phish sandwich and while it was a bit too much tofu for me all at once, I admit I was pleasantly surprised. I also did the milkshake thing and a chocolate cupcake. A walk was seriously called for after all that. We got a bit sidetracked on desserts to go, and took home cheesecake in a jar (a little salty), and great cinnamon roll cake. I can't wait to go back and eat the other half of the menu !

Took my father in law here who swears he's a through and through carnivore. He loved his food, as did we! The service was amazing, our server was very helpful and informative. The desserts were to die for, we had the deep fried cheesecake! We will definitely be coming back!

Came here for a fish and chips fix and I left so satisfied! Battered to a perfect crisp and paired with homemade tarter sauce. My brother got the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and macaroni n' cheese. We decided to start off with wings after we order and we pleased. Great buffalo sauce. This was true comfort food.

Still the only vegan restaurant I have ever been to where I said I can't wait to come back - the Eugener is one of the best Sammies I have ever had -so fresh , southern and delish- basically chicken fried tofu - only vegan restaurant ever on DDD

Been twice now, and feel 3.5 stars is my honest review. Cornbread fills a great niche of vegetarian American food. It's all pretty good food, and reasonably priced for the meal size. I'd take off 1-2 stars because the service always feels inattentive and rushed. We were charged for a refill we didn't ask for (no big deal, I would have paid anyway) and were presented with a bill while still clearly eating, even after we responded that we were still working and didn't want a box (What about dessert?!) Would go back, but wouldn't make a point of it.

Not sure where all the good reviews come from, but the food here is bland and uneventful. I'm just being honest as to my experience here. Perhaps it's b/c I'm not vegan, but I have had my share of vegan food, and this place just doesn't do it for me. Sorry, but I can make better vegan mac at home.I think the food could benefit simply from using a bit more salt. The service was also super duper slow! Anyways, maybe I'll try it again and see what comes of it :)

Unbelievable. Vegan comfort food at it's best. The BBQ seitan is ridiculous, as is everything else we tried. Fun environment and delicious!

I had never been to the cornbread cafe, not only that but I'd never had vegan food either. So I branched out and went with the create your own meal option. I chose the tofu with Mac uncheese and some greens. Absolutely AMAZING. Definitely going there again really soon.

Highlights were the jalapeño cornbread muffin...mmm buttery, sweet, with the subtle flavor of jalapeño but not the heat, the gravy on the chicken fried tempeh - so tasty!, and while I was super excited about the Mac uncheese I felt it was a bit bland and not as creamy as I was expecting. The side of spinach greens were mildly sweet and was a nice compliment to the heavier meal. The phish philet was pretty good with the lemon and tartar sauce, but the chicken fried tempeh won out with that awesome gravy. Overall, good meal and definitely very filling!!

My boyfriend and I had the BBQ Seitan plate with Mash tatters and gravy & buttery greens on the side. My daughter had the fried Tempeh plate with mash tatters and mac n cheese. I felt like I was right at home! I love love loved this place and will go back every single time I'm in Oregon. I'm from Los Angeles and wish hope and pray Cornbread Cafe makes it out here one day. And of course the next day I saw them featured on Diners Drive Ins and Dives. Well deserved 5 starts all thumbs up. I can't remember our waitresses name. She was so cute and helpful she had bangs and dreadies and was the cutest thing. All smiles like I said felt at home and I can't say enough good things. Love you guys wish I was there for breakfast!

I'm not a vegan, but the offerings here are really impressive. I usually order the Eugenewich and the BBQ sandwich, and then split both between us. The Mac unCheese is probably the best dairy free macaroni and cheese I've ever had, and the location and seating area are very laid back and comfortable, think cozy diner.

I'm a convert. I previously said it's hard to find a truly healthy option on the menu. Well, this isn't a place you choose to go because you want a salad. It's perfect comfort food when you want a big, homey meal and aren't worried about the calorie count. The service is friendly and quick and the diner vibe is cute, comfortable, and works perfectly with the food. The fried tempeh chicken is out of this world, served with country cashew gravy. I'm not sure how they make the gravy so flavorful. There are two other vegan breakfast joints in town that serve a vegan gravy, but neither of those come close to the flavor of this stuff. I brought my parents and boyfriend here and was not surprised that they love it. All three are fans of true soul food and none were disappointed. I'm the only vegan in the group - and I was the only one who *didn't* eat every last bite on my plate. We will be back again and again!

Cornbread Cafe is amazing and has a cool laid back feel about it. Not only is the food really good here, they also had a solid tap selection of local beers as well. I always get the Vegan Reuben, which has the consistency of a real Reuben without real meat, actually come to think of it, it taste a lot better than the real thing. I will def be returning soon.

A true gem! Every order was delicious and portions were huge. I'm pretty sure I could have shared a plate between two people. This time we tried the chicken and biscuits, chickn n waffles, and two kiddie plates with flapjacks Seitan sausage and tempeh bacon. Enjoyed the chickn on the waffles the most. Will be back to try the Eugenewich!

Cornbread Cafe has exactly what it advertises: vegan comfort food. This is not vegan food to eat every day. It's special occasion food. Like when you're a little sad or stressed or just too damn lazy to make your own dinner tonight. Everything sits a little heavy, but it's that what comfort food is about? It fills you up and makes you feel whole again. It's vegan food for real people. So good.

I'm updating this review, having tried much of their menu. I can definitively say that this is my favorite restaurant in Eugene, and I stop in regularly. HempBurger- delicious. Not a mushy mushroom-based patty (bleah). It has a nice texture and great flavor. I get the gluten-free bun, which is a bit firmer, and even borders on crunchy and toasted. Reuben: Really good. I like the seitan! The marbled rye bread is great too. The seitan looks and tastes a bit like gyro meat. In fact- that would be a great filling for a gyro-type sandwich. Soft flatbread, seitan, and maybe a vegan tzatziki sauce with tomato, cucumber, and red onion? Hmmm? Eugenewich: Yum! I love the tofu used in the patties. It's firm enough to where a friend totally thought it was a chicken patty. BBQ Sammy: Really tasty, I like the slaw, it has a nice flavor and crunch element. Hot Things: These are good, but I do wish the pieces were smaller. I like the buffalo sauce, and the vegan ranch is amazing. Phish & Chips: Great coating! Has a yummy flavor. Quiche: I have tried a couple of the quiches, and they're all good. Best warmed up! Breakfast: The gluten free flapjacks are nothing short of a culinary triumph. How do they do it? Gluten free, really??? You'd never know. So BIG, fluffy, and dee-licious. I really like the eggfu! The Eggfu Benedict was super good. Split English muffin with steamed spinach, eggfu, and vegan Hollandaise, served with fried potatoes and cut up fruit (bananas and orange suprèmes). DESSERT: Ohhhhh yes. Try the cupcakes. I can't believe how delicious, rich, and sinful they are. And VEGAN to boot? Seriously, I'm a foodie and these are the best I've ever had, vegan or otherwise. The Fat Elvis is a standout, like a chocolatey banana bread concoction. The chocolate chip COOKIES... the best ever. AND.... should you not wish to drive into town- they deliver through Pony Express (now DeliveredDish). ;-)

This place is called Cornbread Café. I went in when I was walking by just to get cornbread. The cornbread was aweful. There was no corn in it, it tasted like it was made from jiffy cornbread mix, and not even right, and they gave it to me in a muffin, not a piece of cornbread. If you cannot get your signature dish right, why would I buy anything else? They do not even deserve the star I gave them for the low quality food they gave me. Plus it took like 15 minutes to bring me a cornbread muffin, that was not even warm. I will not be back.

My family and I stopped at Cornbread Cafe our way through Eugene for lunch and it was delicious! The exterior looks like just another run down diner on a main street, but it is anything but. It's a vegan diner, but you do not have to be a vegetarian to appreciate their good food. We ordered the bean chilli, the portobello sandwich, and cornbread for the table and everything was yummy. The Jalapeno cornbread especially was tasty and was served warm & right out of the oven. They also serve unique Kombucha flavors on tap, which was an added bonus! The service was also very attentive and friendly.

Loved the gravy, which I got on the fantastic Chicken fried tempeh! My omnivorous dad couldn't believe his coleslaw was vegan and thought it was so smooth. All around, the kind of place I wish I lived next door to.

I honestly can't say enough about how awesome Cornbread Cafe is. The food is great, the service is great, and the prices fit the quality of the food. Their sides are also all very incredible. Last time I went I ordered the Chef Chacarroni since I love their "Mac Uncheese" so much. The marinara seitan sausage on the top was incredible and they let me switch out the garlic bread for the cornbread. This is easily one of my favorite places in Eugene. Especially if I'm looking for some comfort food.

Cornbread amazing. Biscuits and cashew based gravy delicious. Good music and friendly waiters who never kicked us out, despite having stayed back at the cafe 30 min after close. If you're looking for a real Oregon cafe experience, this is it. Everything is gluten free and vegan. While I like my real bacon, this place has great alternatives for someone craving a hearty Sunday brunch.

First stop at a vegan breakfast place which was walking distance from the place I was staying at. It's a cute little diner feel type of place. The decor sort of reminds of a brunch place in SD called snooze. I got the pancake special which was good and my bf got the country. We both liked our meals and it was quite filling. I noticed the "fake" meats were really seasoned to make it taste, tasty. The potatoes were good, you can't go wrong with potatoes! Overall, it was good vegan breakfast experience. I don't know if I can eat this all the time.

First place to dine in in Eugene and it was interesting to say the least. Cool vibe, great tunes, friendly people. The coffee is pretty awesome. Don't really eat vegan food like that so I can't chime in on the taste or quality of food but my taste buds aren't picky so. Hey, come on in. It's good with great tunes and company.

So many options, delicious, and reasonably priced! The build your own meal option is perfect because it allows you to sample multiple menu items. It's vegan, and most things on the menu can be made gluten free as well, so the options are pretty endless. My boyfriend and I are not vegan, but we still love a good vegan meal from time to time, and since I have a dairy allergy I can often find better, more flavorful options at vegan restaurants, so don't hesitate to go even if you're not officially vegan! We both thought the mac-uncheese was good, but a little bland. Needed salt and pepper, but not a big deal. The regular cornbread muffin was AMAZING, but the jalapeno one was just ok, so go for the regular. Nom Nom Nom!

I had a feeling we were gonna love this place the moment we walked in and ya know what? Cornbread Cafe you are simply wonderful ! Your BBQ seitan plate is something special. The slaw is so flavorful, your spinach is uniquely delish and your cornbread is beyond belief. Enjoyed your nondairy chocolate shake immensely! The servers are so friendly, so happy you are here!

This place is simply the best. Best vegan food, best service, best prices. All around the 5 star experience. We had the phish fillet, biscuits and gravy, mixed salad, Mac uncheese and the mashed taters and gravy. Everything here tasted just like you hoped it will. Cheesy Mac flavorful fish and tarter sauce. Everything tasted like the food your ordering you wouldn't know it was vegan! Definitely come here!

Stopped in with my 8 year old and immediately noticed the eclectic decor. It had an old small country diner feel. We sat at the counter and were immediately served with waters. I had the hot things. They were great. Better than some hot wings that I've had in the past. I was told they were spicy but they weren't any more spicy than your run of the mill hot wing sauce. My daughter had the Mac uncheese and ate it all! It also came with a side of fresh fruit. Kiwi, orange and banana. Our food came out relatively quickly considering that most of the booths were occupied. I will definitely be going back to try some other dishes.

Don't let the word "Vegan" scare you away. This place is surprisingly awesome. Don't believe me? Google Guy's episode about the place from food network. The best breakfast place with their own tasty take on bacon. Also try their chicken waffle with gravy. So good!

This place rocks! 100 percent vegan comfort food and feels like a retro diner. Highly recommend the Reuben and my friend got the Hemp burger which looked great as well. Some of the food is heavier fare and deep fried, but lots of other great items like what we had that are less heavy yet done right. I loved the side of greens and tried my friend's mashed potatoes w/ gravy which was amazing. Several deserts as well. I have been vegan 15 years and feel this is on ne of the top places in a very veggie friendly town to get great vegan food. I think being vegan while eating local organic cooking healthy often it is fun to go to a place like this to have some decadent pleasure on occasion to live a little. Seating is cozy and fare is hearty. Service was great. Support your local vegan business!

So good.

My friends and I come here as many Sunday mornings as possible and it's consistently delicious and the service is always awesome. Plus its adorable! Oh, and the gravy is top notch.

First time visitors to Eugene and so glad to have stopped here for a wonderful vegan breakfast. The Eggs Benedict were delicious accompanied by home fries and fresh fruit. Good service, good music.

5 stars of yum for this kitschy vegan diner. When the big portions were set before us, we didn't think we'd finish them, but we sure did.

I'm headed here on Sunday for breakfast, because for some reason I've never had their breakfast.

considering how hyped this place is, our experience was nothing short of a disappointment the place is nice and so was service and it's not that anything tasted bad, from the veggie burger, to the soup, the salad and the cornbread, but if I were to say that I ate anything memorable that makes me want to go back, I'd be lying...maybe it's just not very flavorful food the mac and cheese with peanut sauce was the most half-baked effort
