Vegans don't be fooled. They claim to have vegan options but employees are poorly trained on what is vegan. After getting burned by eating the definitely not vegan tahini after I was told it was I tried this place twice more. Each time I requested no tahini. Both times they included it. They're not getting any more chances from me.

I recognize it's not as ambient and elegant as it could be, but as for college campus Mediterranean food it's as good as it gets. Fair price, arrives quickly, large portion, tasty food. This is one of my staple eateries when visiting the university area.

After a long day in the salt mines of academia, DLW wanted a night off from cooking, so we had a weekday dinner here. She had been for lunch previously, but it was my first time. Not terribly impressed by my visit. It's prime real estate on 13th a block from the UO campus, so they do great business I'm sure. They open early and close late to soak up biz from early risers and partiers alike. They offer breakfast dishes anytime. Mediterranean food is generally quick to prepare, inexpensive and vegetarian-friendly. All of these pluses don't add up to a good restaurant, however. DLW got a lamb shawarma, and was happy with the result, a little classier than the garden variety gyro (or yiro if you prefer), with a Greek salad on the side. I had a daily special of lamb kebab and Persian soup. The portion was rather small, and the meat was rather tough and underseasoned. The soup was bland, also lacking salt, but made better with a dash of hot pepper sauce. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but nothing else I saw people getting looked like it was good enough to elevate this place beyond three stars. I wouldn't make this a regular stop.

Skeeter and I had been drinking the night before. When I awoke I felt as though I was coming to in the hospital after a failed suicide attempt with a 12 gauge. My eyes peeled open to an ass cheek protruding from soiled linens. Was I dead? Had that bastard of a god finally decided to punish me for the decades of violent masturbation and binge drinking? Figures, I never liked that piece of shit. "Skeeter" "What?!" "Food" With that I rolled onto the floor, placed one foot under me and with great strength lifted my decrepit body off the rug. Noticing that I was still wearing my clothes from the night before, the next step was the walk to Caspian. There is no worse sight then that of a entitled whore in full running gear reminding you that you have a drinking problem. So what if it is 10:30 on a Tuesday. I wanted to grab her, to exhale my evil into her mouth. Have her taste the addiction that plagued me and have her never forget. But I was hungry. In a moment of self-reflection, I realized I was going to vomit. With the desperation of a man buried alive in the pioneer cemetery, the indulgence from the evening before clawed for the light. Though I tried with all my might to keep the angulating mass down, a geyser of foul liquid spewed from my mouth and came to rest in a puddle of foamy red at Skeeter's feet. I wiped the remained of the sick off my beard with my sleeve and pressed on towards Caspian. Caspian is a lovely establishment of 13th that serves Greek fusion food. We entered Caspian and were hit with a line of other hungry patrons. This was good because I needed a moment to examine the menu. After staring for what seemed like an eternity it was our time to order, and I had no idea what I wanted. In addition is quickly became clear that I had lost the ability to read, thus I asked the server for a suggestion. She mouthed something at me, but I refused to acknowledge. I hold her to give me a burger and fries with a Dr. P on the side. I handed her a wad of damp money, told her to keep the change and collapsed in a chair next to the mirror. That is when I noticed that my attempt to wipe away the puke had failed. I looked like a Douglas fir the week after Christmas, still with ornaments on it because my mom was to drunk and depressed to take them down. My food arrived, I ate, it was great. I gave it 4 out of five stars because it met my expectation. I was satisfied with the meal, but it was not amazing. As for me, I'll give my morning no stars... I hope that one day I'll get my shit together!

Left something to be desired. Cashier was very "awkward valley girl" who has been in eugene too long. Ever get that feeling like you want to smack someone? Just a slightly passive agressive, I don't want to be working vibe. Bus your own table, cheap college style here. I like it this way so I don't get bothered. Yes, I don't mind grabbing my own silverware and drinks and saving a couple dollars in tips. Especially saving the awkwardness dealing with the "I hate my job" cashier. Ordered the gyro dinner plate for 7.95, fairly cheap right? The gyro shows up as 5 "strips" basically this is super shitty frozen gyro meat they just unfreeze on the flat top grill. This shiz was the most frozen processed perfect rectangles I have seen in a while at a "Mediterranean" restaurant that basically serves 1 thing with minor variations. Comes with 3 pitas halfs that were kind of hard. The ends of the pitas were soggy sitting next to a salad with balsamic vinegar leaching onto them and when you get to the bottom of the 3, it was a pile of mush. Side salad was fairly good, had a little tang to it with the vinegar. Meal could have been greatly improved by putting the salad into a seperate bowl. Not sure I'll be back for frozen processed gyro meat I could probably go buy at cash n' carry. But never the less, I'd say it is a decent campus option if you order a plain gyro or schwarma with fries.

Caspian may not look like the cleanest place, but it is my favorite place to eat on campus. Their prices are really fair, great and affordable for college students. I always get either the gyros or shwarma, but I did go ahead and try the burrito once and their lamb scramble as well. My go-to item will definitely be the gyros, and I ate a countless amount during my time in Eugene. The lamb meat is thick and juicy, complemented with lettuce, tomatoes, onions and tzatziki sauce. It's a simple gyros, nothing fantastic, but it gets the job done. I find the caspian gyros better than the gyros cart on campus. The scramble was very good as well. I'm a big fan of lamb, and the combination of the scrambled eggs with olives, lamb and feta cheese was very interesting. The burrito itself wasn't very memorable. Overall a great place for college students. Affordable prices, and tastes great.

I love this food. Whether drunk or sober, the food is so good and there are lots of options. Their breakfast foods are great and anything with tofu is delicious.

The cheeseburger special here: The. Best. I swear that's their most popular dish on the menu even though they're a Mediterranean café. You can pick either a single or a double cheeseburger and it comes with a side of fries and soda. And everything is: So. Cheap. Most of the week, Caspian is opened until 3 a.m.--perfect "late night food" if you catch my drift, college town. ;)

This is the second awful overall experience I've had here. The first time, I ordered the fried zucchini and got mushy, frozen, greasy sticks of what seemed to maybe be zucchini inside breading. This time I ordered walnut french toast and got slabs of soggy, completely egg covered, and swimming in syrup pieces of bread covered in chunks of half cooked bacon... really? And their bathroom was destroyed on top of all that. I cannot stand this place or its customers. Stay away.

Caspian has been my favorite spot on campus for 4 years! I almost tried everything on their menu and it is still hard to choose a favorite! The food is healthy and delicious! You can order a breakfast burrito for less than $3 or you can have chicken kabob for less than $10! Everything on the menu is delicious and affordable!

This is hands down my favorite place to eat in Eugene. Delicious food for a reasonable price, which is very important as a college student! I always get the shawarma special and it is delicious Every time! I recommend caspian to anyone who is looking for something local to eat in Eugene!

My family was in the area and we wanted to eat something different that wasn't a chain restaurant. My wife had a vegetarian wrap and she absolutely loved it! My son had a sandwich and he said it was good, but he is 16 years old and everything taste good to him. I had a gyro and while it was good it wasn't a mind blowing experience. The meat wasn't as flavorful as some of the other gyros I've had and it seemed like I could've used more sauce. There was good value cause the food was inexpensive and they gave us a decent amount of food.

  • Patrick M.

There is some pretty good food here, but from what I've heard its not the best Greek/Mediterranean food there is. The main redeeming quality for me is the burger special, which is delicious, and cheap for the quantity and quality you're getting. Unfortunately, the service is kind of slow, and less friendly than I'd like. Most of the staff look a little depressed, like they don't like their jobs.

They have decent food that will sustain you through long nights on campus without costing an arm & a leg. The staff is nice & responsive enough & there's a large menu to choose from. The place feels kind of dirty, but I couldn't really say why. The tahini is kind of weird, but the falafels are decent. I got some vegetarian burrito with sauteed mushrooms one time that was seriously delicious & lasted 2 meals BUT it is a major grease bomb. If your stomach can handle that, I fully recommend it, because everyone could use some grease come finals week. If you, like me, eat almost no grease, though - LOOK OUT. Pretty much your standard cafe catering to students. Not amazing, not horrid, one of the few near campus that I can stand.

Gyros on rice. That's what you get here. We always loved to eat at this place though all of college and returned this past year for part of our visit to the University. It was exactly how I remember it. I really like their tzatiki sauce with the little pieces of cucumber in it. It has that old college bar feel on the inside. It does have an upstairs place to eat that is more sunny and bright. Upstairs is a good place to be on a wet and cold day. Everything is self bussed also. Parking is along the street, so that can be a pain.

Well, I suppose my gf and I are in the minority on this one. We arrived in Eugene on a Sunday night, on a drive from Vegas to Seattle. Precious few restaurants were open, so when we drove by and saw Caspian was open, we jumped at the chance. I ordered the gyros sandwich, bowl (not cup) of Persian soup, and soda. The cost? $6.95. The soup was excellent. Barley, chick peas, pinto beans, garlic, vegetable stock, spinach, a touch of mint, and lots of pepper. I *have to* figure out how to make this at home. My gyros sandwich was delicious. The meat was tender and seasoned perfectly. My gf had the gyros salad and dolmas. She really liked hers, too. The only unsavory aspect of our experience was waiting for someone to appear at the order counter only to finally have the cook walk in after apparently smoking an entire pack of cigarettes. Wow, did he stink. And then he cooked our food. Ugh. All things considered, I'd eat here again. The price is right, the food is good, and I like to support local businesses. I'd go here ANY day over the Qdoba across the street.

  • Vince B.

If the old guy is the only one cooking, plan on waiting for about 45 minutes, even if the place isn't busy. Don't order breakfast past 1:00pm, they must not clean the grill because any breakfast food late in the day tastes like burger grease. People are generally rude as well. Cafe sienna, east meets west and noodle head are MUCH better options if you're looking for something close to campus.

Amazing Persian barley soup. The place is small and cozy with outdoor eating. Falafel wrap is great. I would recommend coming

I usually frequent Caspian Mediterranean Cafe when I am in a rush and want a quick a fairly simple meal to go. Nothing fancy. It's a prime spot for University of Oregon students seeing that it's on the popular stretch of 13th street just outside of campus grounds. I am a lover of Greek/Mediterranean food so Caspian is a nice spot to grab a simple salad for sure. While the location, quick service, and minimal wait time is a plus, I tend to avoid eating in since I'm not too keen on the indoor odor of the establishment. It's nothing harsh but it's usually warm and ventilation is poor, so the various combination of aromas is a bit unpleasant for my taste. Caspian offers a variety of seating. Indoors you can sit downstairs, which can be a bit crowded, or upstairs. A small patio and bar is also available right beside the entryway which seems to be the most popular place to sit since it is a prime spot for overlooking the rest of 13th street. Seats outside tend to always be full so be sure to arrive on the early side. Caspian serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering more traditional breakfast and lunch foods such as eggs and toast, sandwiches, and salads, along with more classic Mediterranean dishes such as gyros, shawarmas, falafels, and kabobs. They have quite a variety to their menu and usually add new items to their menu which can be fun for frequent customers. I have always ordered their simple chicken salad (shredded chicken breast, lettuce, diced tomato, cucumber, black olives, and feta with a side of vinaigrette dressing and pita bread) For those who appreciate flavor packed salads, this may not be the one for you, the chicken is rather bland and the dressing is extremely light. I tend to use my own dressing since I find their vinaigrette to be too acidic for my taste. I was a little underwhelmed with the accompanying veggies, the tomatoes are never really that ripe or fresh and the cucumbers tend to be a bit watery. Several times I have opened my to go box to find the pita slightly soggy after carrying my salad for a short distance. The salad is nothing special and decently portioned which is nice seeing that it is rather inexpensive in comparison to some of the other neighboring campus restaurants. As a result, I put Caspian in my list of last resort restaurants, open at late hours, and has speedy service which works for a quick break in-between classes or work hours.

I love this place because it has good options for pretty much anything your looking for (in the Mediterrain realm of foods). Its got low priced foods (breakfast pita for $3) and they make a big burrito if you're going for the meat lovers burrito. Tahini is a must. I put it on everything. Even my burritos. I really like how the menu continues to add new fun dishes. Sometimes its hard to know what to order because there are so many options. Really clean place and good atmosphere. Free Wifi. If you need sauce, just ask and they will help out with it. Really relaxed place, I love coming there to do work. They bring your food to you also. Don't forget to ask for the tahini, your tastebuds will thank me later. I would have given a 5, however their coffee sucks. I am a self-proclaimed coffee snob and I was disappointed that such a great breakfast place would miss out on such an easy win. With that said, breakfast is not their only meal of the day so they do have a lot else to focus on, but when I go in i stop at Roma's beforehand if I am about to do work. Prime location, easy to stop by, open late (drunk gyros beat drunk nachos when you carpe noctum) and cool people working here.

This was pretty good, quick meal. I enjoyed the Persian Soup and the eggplant curry with curry rice. My soup needed a little bit more spice and some salt, but after that it was yummy. The front staff lady was nice as well. I'll go back to visit and eat again.

Pleasantly surprised by this place. Driving home from a long road trip and looking for something kid friendly in a college town, so we weren't too optimistic! But the food was great, particularly for the price (lamb kabob for $8.95? And good?!). Staff were friendly and laid back with the kids too. Overall, solid experience.

I have eaten at Caspian a handful of times, and never have I had anything pleasantly memorable or even passable as a good experience. The restaurant is dark and dirty. The grime is really a turn-off. I can't imagine the parts of the kitchen you can't see from the counter. The counter service is unfriendly and surly. They feature Mediterranean cuisine, but some of their biggest sellers are burgers? Crappy ones, at that. I have had salads consisting of wet (dripping) green leaf lettuce, sliced black olives and unripe tomatoes. Vegetarian options consisting of Basmati rice, sauteed onions, spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and olives, all overcooked, over salted and underwhelming. I once ate a meat-based entree and was appalled at the quality and over-cooked chewiness that I couldn't finish. So not worth it.

The food here is pretty gross. Cheap, filling, but tastes horrible. Also, one time I found a bread clip in my burger (this is not a joke, this actually happened). There are better places to go on 13th.

  • Joshua P.

I really wanted an egg scramble and was in a hurry - turns out they give you mostly home fry potatoes and toast. The amount of eggs I got was very disappointing. If you like potatoes & toast then you are in luck.

  • Jenny C.

I truly enjoy the gyros! The lamb is moist flavorful and plentiful. The tzatziki has a light but fresh flavor, trust me I have had bad tzatziki in the past, theirs is good. The pita is not hard but soft and together I like the gyro. I also like their baklava And they have great service!

  • Suzie M.

I had heard they had great veggie burgers and was DYING to have one when my coworker told me they had one. Knowing they had Mediterranean food I was assuming they had vegetarian options, and was disappointed to find out they didn't. It's definitely not very difficult to make a veggie burger. My second choice was a vegetarian gyro which they also did not have. Sad face. But slightly more understandable. So I opted for a falafel which is very similar. I thought it was going to be super cheap but it was 5.95$ which is still a great price but could be even more college-student-friendly. The falafel was great! It didn't taste super greasy like others commented on so that was good. But it was very tasty and flavorful. I would have given this a 4 star rating if not for the odd tahini sauce. It was bland and weird tasting, I can't really put my finger on it. But overall ill definitely be going back and trying some other things :) Ps get veggie burgers pleeeease.

I come here a lot because I live around the corner. They definitely cater more to students than anything else, which is why the decor is minimal and the experience is very cut-and-dry. I can be a little overwhelmed by the menu at times just because it is so random, but now that I've found something I like, I have no problems. My advice is this: don't get a salad. They are very plain and usually just consist of lettuce and a few toppings. Really, you could probably make that at home. DO try the ultimate wrap. It is sinfully delicious and filling, and I haven't found anything like it in the area.

  • Matthew C.

It's your standard no frills cheap campus joint. The people working here were really friendly, so much so, that I really hoped the food was good. Sadly, All I could taste was the oil the falafel was fried in, and it tasted way past it's prime. I threw 3/4 of my lunch away, and went with the cliff bar in my glove box. The next time I'm on Campus at the UofO, I'm going to give them another try, if for no other reason than because all the people were so friendly. Here's to hoping I just caught the oil on the day they were changing it out.

This place is great for cheap, easy, hangover, student food. Otherwise, you probably won't like it. But sometimes it just HITS THE SPOT. Gyros rock, burritos and burgers rock. Breakfast specials are soooo cheap and filling. It stays open really late, which is nice for the drunchies. Pretty much you want to try a gyro...

  • Sophia K.

I'll go here if no other kebab place is open. When Albee's used to be closed on Sundays and before I knew about Cafe Coconut and before I finally made my way over to Poppi's It was Caspian's. The food is good, and the service is fine. Order at the counter then sit and wait for your food. I think I'm deterred from going here because of all the congestion that can spring up during school hours and the fact that meters are enforced until 8pm instead of 6pm now! Ok other than that, I question their cleanliness, but I've never gotten sick *knock on wood.

My go-to lunch spot when I "forget" to bring my lunch to campus. Caspian is nothing fancy and could probably benefit from a nice hard scrub down and new carpet on the stairs, but the food is good. I always get the combo meaning adding either fries, a salad, or soup (and maybe one other option) plus a drink to your meal for an extra dollar. If you do get the salad, unless you LOVE vinegar you might want to ask for the dressing on the side though- it gets a little overpowering by the end. It The lamb gyro is a winner in my book as is the shawarma. Lots of vegetarian options too. Also open ridiculously late. If you get hungry and most places in Eugene are closed, there's a good chance Caspian will be open.

I had one of the best cheeseburgers of my life from this place. The staff was friendly, the location is good, and it didn't take long to get the food (it was quite busy, too). You can call in an order to pick up, which is AWESOME when you're in college. I'll always go when I'm in Eugene!

    (5)
  • Elizabeth S.

I like how this cafe is right at the edge of campus and you can order food and walk home in no time. The service isn't that great but I think the food makes up for it. I asked for cheeseburger without cheese (i know.) but they ended up putting CHEESE on it. You would think they could listen to a simple request. Also, their fries are pretty good and their burritos are to remember.

One bite of the gyro and I wanted to take it back...worst food in Eugene. $11 in the garbage. They use frozen stripes of meat...yuck!!!!!!! Never, I repeat, NEVER go here!

Passable food, a curry feels good when it's pouring outside - typical college-town fare? yes. typical college-town prices? nope, should be cheaper for what it is.

this place is bomb.com hahah but really there is good food for a reasonable price. My favorite college student buy is the $5.99 cheeseburger fries and drink meal deal. it is my go-to everytime I crave a burger. They also have really good mediterranean food and delicious curry rice. Lots of seating, go up stairs..there is more! Quick Service!

Some restaurant owners are real marketing geniuses. Not only can they cook tasty food, but they also know how to present it in an atmosphere that enhances the dining experience, whether it be a high-brow sit-down restaurant or a simple cafe/diner. The owners of Caspian Mediterranean Restaurant are not that type of genius. In short, this place is a mess: a marketing mess, a physical mess, and also a hygiene mess (don't dare to poke your head into the kitchen area, or you will immediately "do the sprinkler dance" with your stomach contents). The downstairs seating is passable at best. The oak wood tables have a layer of grime that can not and will not be removed by a college kid wearing an apron and wiping them with a damp cloth. The fluorescent lighting is a mess. The signage is confusing. The big dirty fish tank near the door is pointless and/or off-putting. The self-serve soda machine uses ice cubes that said college kid in apron dumps in by hand while the ice bin lid sits on the floor. The upstairs seating area is stuffy and smells like there is a natural gas leak somewhere. (Note: There were no gaseous-looking people present upon which to blame this odorosity). There are also plenty o' big-headed flies; I would have had a field day with one of those electronic fly-zapper tennis racquets. The food, not on the other hand, is just so so at best. Kabobs taste not quite authentic. Falafel balls overcooked. Gyro meat is mushy and lacks texture (also some sort of chemical smell...not sure what that is, and probably don't want to know since I already took a few bites!). Pita is wet and chewy like some sort of wonderbread version of pita. Hummus is watery. Salad is super watery. Everything, food-wise, really misses the spot. Price: Reasonable if the taste was better. Expensive considering the low quality food and decor. (They might also refuse to take your "buy one get one free" coupon for false reasons...we saw them do this twice during a 45 minute period). Summary: Don't eat at Caspian Mediterranean Restaurant.
