I've been here a few times now, and it's always been good. I find the menu to be slightly limited, but everything I've eaten has been tasty. Most recently, a friend and I came here for happy hour. the happy hour menu is pretty limited as well. My friend and I each got an order of salmon cakes and shared an order of sweet potato fries. We also each had a pint of Ninkasi. Our bill ended up being under $20 for everything, so not too bad for 2 drinks and a small meal. Each order of salmon cakes came with 2 cakes, and the sweet potato fries were not a huge portion, but good sized for sharing. Also - those sweet potato fries are soooo good. I think the best sweet potato fries I've ever had. The service was good. Our waiter was quick, friendly, and checked back with us often. I'm sure I'll be back.

What is sad is that their food is wonderful. Their service is horrible though! I have been there multiple times. A few times with my child and girlfriend, and one with just my girlfriend. No matter what, we get ignored the moment our food gets on the table. I don't know if they just assume that we aren't going to tip because we are in our twenties, or what? But I know they will never get my service again unless someone else is paying.

The food at Cafe 440 has been good every time I went... unfortunately this is one of those place s that started out stellar and was THE place I wanted to eat, and has steadily settled into just an okay place to eat. It seems like we find a dish we like and after a couple visits it is very different. The pulled port nachos were a favorite, as were the risotto balls, and we used to really enjoy the prime rib Thursdays, which they have discontinued. The service is sort of spotty, sometimes super stellar, but has been so rough (rude and slow) lately that we've stopped going. I won't give it a bad review because I think there is potential for it to turn around, but for the price of the entrees I expect the service to be much better.

It's been almost three years since my first review for here. Still one of my top favorite places to eat in Eugene. The service continues to be very fast and always friendly. Always new menu items popping up, still keeping around the favorites. Still have to get the jalepenos every time i go. Their sunday brunch is always fantastic. Really good chicken fried steak, creamed spinach, and cheese grits. Love it!

I had gone to Cafe 440 before and had good experiences. However today I went in for lunch and had horrible service. The food was cold and lacked any flavor. Our server disappeared for almost the whole meal and left 3 of her tables looking for her. I was very disappointed in the food, service and overall experience this time at Cafe 440 and will not be returning anytime soon.

This area has a lot to offer so each food place has to go above and beyond just to get recognized and stay in business. Good food, good service. I will have to visit again to write a detailed review. But if you are on the edge about this one, I would say Go try it out.

Consistently the best food in town and the best service. Always fun - we go 1-2X a week.

The sweet potato fries and the brisket sandwich really stood out. Everything else was good but not memorable. A number of dishes lacked salt (and that's a lot coming from me, who thinks some restaurant food is too salty), but I guess too little salt is a much better problem than too much. The sauce for the fried chicken was oddly seasoned. We ate outside which lacks atmosphere (you're sitting on a sidewalk between the restaurant and a parking lot), but it was quieter than the somewhat noisy interior. I would probably go back, but not until I've tried some other high-rated places I haven't been to yet.

Excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent service! One of the best places I've eaten in Eugene. The Philly sandwich is the best I've had (haven't had a true one from Philly tho lol.) The mushrooms and onions were sauteed to perfection. The Prime rib sandwich was almost as amazing. My bf got salad and we both agreed to try out their blueberry vinaigrette. We were surprised at how tasty it was. My bf's jalapeno margarita was killer. Everything was so fresh and seemed to be artfully prepared with love. We both could not believe how amazed we were from the first bite to the last. The prices were reasonable too! Three are plenty of other places to try out, but we might just have to re-visit this place before doing so :)

Our car broke down in Eugene, and it was our good fortune. Found the restaurant on Yelp. I had the Braised Lamb and the wife had the Salmon Salad. Both were excellent. The offerings were butressed by an outstanding barman, "Robbie". He recommended great food, kept us entertained, mixed great drinks, and introduced us to the locals. Not only was the food excellent, the company was too.

Had their beet salad today. It was amazing! Hope it's around for a bit, before they change their menu! Yum-o! Perfect size - I was stuffed.

You must stop by this place. We did- for dinner two nights in a row. It's that good. Start with a Yazi Pear Martini (I hope I can make as good a drink at home). The french fries were crispy perfection and dip them in the buttermilk chive dressing! I preferred the Chicken Pesto sandwich that I had the first night over the Beef Dip that I had the second night. My sister had the Salmon with the risotto and then the Pulled Pork Sandwich. The sunflower seeds added a nice crunch. Oh and the dessert- the butterscotch creme brûlée was so delish! I wish there was a Cafe 440 in So. CA but then again I would be a lot heavier. Definitely coming here when we visit Eugene again.

Hands down the best brunch in town! This place has literally ruined going to breakfast anywhere else for me. Great atmosphere and fantastic staff to boot!

All dark beers on tap in the winter, but they have a wide range of bottled. Menu is standard American with the chef's personal twist. A little pricey, definitely a higher class cafe. Their BBQ pork nachos are great. I think lunch is better than breakfast here.

Another great meal at Cafe 440. Today I had their amazing Cobb salad which has this amazing bacon. My friend queried during our meal " who knew you could make bacon better?" This isn't the first time I've walked away satisfied and happy however it is the first time the owner guaranteed i would after talking to me and my friends. I haven't had a bad experience here, maybe an item once in a while that wasn't to my particular liking but always well made and with quality ingredients. Eating here never disappoints and always feels like I'm going out to eat which is exactly why this place is great!

Would and will come back next time I'm in Eugene. The jalapeño poppers were incredible and second only to the friendly service of Ashley.

Stopped in after a Duck home game at Autzen. Place was mostly packed with folks in Duck gear. Service was spot on. Waiter even believed me when I told him he might want to bring a picture of ice water since I was crazy thirsty. Appetizers were good. I had a nice salad. The mac and cheese is the bomb diggity (get it with the pulled pork). Top notch ingredients. Well balanced menu. Prompt service (even when busy). The place has something of a loud vibe, which may be from the open floor plan. But frankly it's hard to find things to complain about here. If future visits match my first, this one will move into 5 star status.

Wow....I can't believe the reviews on Cafe 440. I and my guy friend eat there frequently. At least 10 times in the last 2-3 months. All of their food has been exceptional. The service was good, always. I have never ordered anything that I wasn't super happy with. Their top picks are the their homemade soups....Super tasty. They have the best Chicken Cobb Salad I have ever eaten, along with their Buttermilk Chive dressing. As a former restaurant owner of 5 years, I am among the fussiest. I can assure you that there are some people that you can never satisfy or make happy. These are usually people whose expectations are set too high. If you are looking for intimate, candlelight setting, quiet and romantic, this isn't your place. But, it is fun, upbeat and awesome food!!

The food was decent, but the service was bad. They were nice, but they totally forgot about us and paid more attention to the group next to us. Very inconsistent. I had to bring my check to the register to pay because they didn't visit us for over 40 minutes.

We visited this evening with some friends and our toddlers. We started with the hot wings ($8), which were OK, but we asked for blue cheese dressing on the side and it wasn't delivered and when it was, it was seriously the runniest blue cheese dressing I've had in a long time (zero crumbles). The in-house flavoring on the wings was unique - a little sweet to go with the hot - but they were a little on the dry side. I had a cup of the soup du jour, a chorizo and clam with rice in tomato base soup. ($3.50) It was ok, but from the description I had thought it might have a more cioppino-esque flavor and it was just kinda flat. Those who ordered Caesar salads were more pleased. For entrees, I ordered the meatloaf sandwich ($11) - my grandma made a great midwestern meatloaf and every once in a while I get a craving... boy was I disappointed. I didn't know it was possible to cut a "good" meat loaf into 1/4 inch slabs. I'm not kidding, they were no wider than the narrow part of the neck of my fork and remained intact. The only noticeable flavor I could detect under all the sauce (we'll get to that next) was cracked pepper. The meat was basted in a "house" sauce that was overwhelmingly sweet and kind of tomato based but pretty much like a sweet barbeque sauce and it was nasty on a squishy, yes, squishy ciabatta (shouldn't ciabatta be slightly firm?) bun. There was some kind of white aioli substance on there too, but the red sauce obliterated all other flavors from my palette... The only good - the sweet potato fries were thick and fresh as was the dipping sauce they were served with. My friend had the Chicken Marsala ($17), which was a panko crusted overcooked (my husband used the term "cremated,") chicken cutlet with a mushroom gravy served under the chicken with a giant pile of mashed potatoes. The amount of gravy was inadequate - and extra gravy was delivered at additional cost. My husband's burger started out at $9, but he added cheese, bacon, onions and mushrooms... after all that the $15 burger got a "2 on a scale of 10." (I really am contemptuous of any restaurant that charges over a $0.50 for added toppings for a burger such as cheese, onion, mushrooms etc. with the exception of bacon, where it is acceptable to me to charge a $1, maybe.) And to top it off, the "grilled onions" were crispy and uncooked...

The Sunday Brunches at 440 ROCK. We love, LOVE, the menu, and the way in which the items are prepared. The chef takes time to have the plates LOOKING beautiful, not just piling on food (which they do too!). The pairing of food textures with flavors is outstanding. (Shrimp and grits?! OMG NOM). Everything is always great. Great setting, beautiful, good food. WONDERFUL owner. Good staff. Always a smile. Sometimes, it can get a bit busy, and depending on your server, you can get what feels like forgotten, but it's rare. Bound to happen anywhere. We got here often, and will continue too!

We had a very nice lunch here. Terrific poke with a "northwest twist". Lots of veggies as well as ahi. Service was terrific. They have a short but good wine list with several Oregon wines available by the glass. We had our springer spaniel with us and sat outside with her. They were very welcoming. We're Always looking for a good place to eat when we're traveling where we don't have to leave our dog in the car. This worked well!

The good : food was excellent. The bad: The design of this restaurant makes voices echo when it is crowded. Therefore, when it is busy, it is very loud. On top of that, they play loud music. The echoing loud voices make it impossible to hear the music and the music makes it impossible to have a quiet meal. The ugly: this place needs a manager. We waited 30 minutes for a table and, at all times, there were 4-5 empty tables not being prepared for customers. The table turnover is very slow. The entire time we were eating, there were at least four empty tables and people waiting at the front to be seated. The owner is busy schmoozing with customers rather than managing his restaurant and making sure that tables are turned over properly. The waitress counter in the back is more like a location for employees to gather and do nothing and wait rather than helping customers. We waited at least 10 minutes for the waitress to at least acknowledge our existence. After that, she took our order and brought our bill at the end. Rarely saw her in between since "servers" bring the food, not the waitress. It is really sad because the food is so good yet this place could be managed much better.

I had a bangin' reuben here a few days ago. It was delightful. I also had some coffee. I paid $2.75 for it. That's terrible. You can't really expect someone to pay that much for coffee. Especially coffee that isn't even very good. This, however, was the low of my experience here. The service here was on-point. Water levels were properly maintained and the food was brought out with a smile. There was a decent level of interaction with our server but not so much that she was making our lunch experience about her. The food, while a bit pricey, was well made. High quality ingredients, cooked well, and everything was paired together well. I feel safe recommending this place to anyone. My friends enjoyed their meals too. My only regret is that I didn't eat the pulled pork sliders. Fix the price on the coffee. That's fucked up.

I am a Cafe 440 regular. In fact, was in the process of looking up their phone number to change a reservation time when I came across these reviews. And, in all honesty, as big of a fan as I am, I admit the service here is probably about the worst in town. I know the owner and I know he works hard. There are so many people who would like to work there that I am befuddled why they are always so pathetically understaffed. 4 times out of 5 we wait 15 minutes from the time we are sat until someone comes around to our table. My last visit there was very frustrating as they had a lobby full that was spilled out to the sidewalk and we were told it would be about a half hour wait. Yet during that half hour we observed about 6 open tables and informed they were "reserved". The people didn't show up and didn't show up. When we asked about it we were told that they hold tables for an hour because their turnover is so slow they can't guarantee an open table otherwise. That seems like a really piss poor business model when you have people lined up to spend money yet you deny them a seat because someone else promised to show up an hour later. Really? Well, that's why I made a reservation for my next visit. That doesn't mean that I'm not aware that we will be sitting there an hour before our food arrives, and will have to wait a half an hour to get bloody mary's for a table of three. That just is how it is there on a Sunday for brunch. I realize as I write this that my rating should be much lower, but I really want Cafe 440 to succeed and hope that Todd can address the issues of poor service and really make his restaurant live up to its full potential.

Good, not great. I had turkey special and hubs had chicken sandwich as they were out of ahi. His had a weird spice so we switched halfway through. Both sandwiches were good, ciabata bread was very good. Fries taste fake. Very loud, even when the restaurant was half full.

So I'm in Eugene for work and I sidle up to the bar at this joint which is just near the hotel. My other two options were the Cafe Arirang Korean place which was getting great reviews, but as tempted as I was I just wasn't feeling Korean for dinner; the hotel bar/restaurant had the advantage of being right there but when I strolled in I quickly turned around, Abe Simpson style, when I realized it was karaoke night. I really wish I'd re-thought my decision although the Cafe 440 menu looked promising enough. Like I said I go straight towards the bar, hoping to enjoy my beer and maybe some pub grub while getting my Olympics on. There's a crowd of randos there which one might charitably describe as "trashy/yuppie". Whatever, can't judge a book by its cover, right? They finally abscond with some drinks after milling around the bar for what seems like forever. I mean it shouldn't take that long to pour one, which probably should've been a red flag at that point. But by that time I'm tired from driving and sort of just committed to this place. I grab a seat and the bartender immediately gives me a hey, which I take as promising for the service. I ask for the beer and food menus which inexplicably took 15 or so minutes to arrive. Mmmmmkay, everybody did seem pretty harried and I guess there was some seating impropriety but who does a girl have to blow to get a drink around here? Every minute I'm sitting not getting inebriated is one more minute that I have to contemplate the excessively bitchy review I'm going to write on Yelp later. Oh I should mention I got the food menu only and NOT the beer menu, so I asked to borrow one from this girl who I think was auditioning for Real Housewives. Permanent bored look on an overtanned, gummy face, hyperbleached hair, bling that you would find on a Russian prostitute and some jersey knit dress that was very Joyce Leslie. She was playing on her phone while the Bro she was with yammered about breach of duty for trade secrets and not-so-subtly attempted to dry fingerbang her (I did not even know this was a thing) under the bar. It was kind of amusing but didn't really comport to the crunchy vibe I was expecting from Eugene. The place is in a strip mall though so now I know for next time. The food? I got the fish & chips and I was pretty underwhelmed. The fries were fine. The fish was kind of not great but maybe that was because salmon isn't really the best kind of fish to fry, but maybe not because I've had great salmon fish & chips before and besides how do you mess up frying stuff? I will admit the cole slaw was pretty good. It had peanut/peanut sauce in it so it had a bit of a pad thai vibe. So that's a lot of words to say I wasn't that impressed and I won't come back, but what the hell: PMS plus full moon plus quasi-anonymity of the internet with a side helping of Judging Other Strangers Is Fun equals this review. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to hit up the hotel bar to catch the end of somebody butchering "Paradise City".

The Knee Deep beef and fries were perfectly done, respectively well accented with the aioli & buttermilk chive sauce. Service was quick but friendly, the decor classy and attractive, and the perfect place to take my parents for lunch while they were in town. Kind of hate that parking lot, but not 440's fault it's so small.

Its very hard to get five stars from me, but this place did it! The service was great, they had a great variety of cocktails, and I can't stop thinking about the food. First of all, their menu is amazing. They have everything you could want: nachos, sliders, burgers, sandwiches, Mac and cheese, hearty salads, and seafood. I went with a large group of people and everyone was very pleased with their meals. Second of all, they have the best Cobb salad I have had in my life-scratch that, the best salad I have had in my life. I am not sure what it was, but the buttermilk chive dressing and the two large pieces of bacon on top were amazing. The portions of egg, chicken, and avocado were generous and I have never felt so full and satisfied from a salad before. Thirdly, their fried food was bomb.com . The sweet potato fries were light and crunchy and the macadamia nut crusted prawns were to die for. They have a goat cheese fritter salad that is a great way to start a meal. Has the crunch and creaminess that one is looking for, but is not too heavy as it comes on a bed of greens. Some of the other things my group ordered were the BLT and the Philly Cheesesteak- both large sandwiches that did not disappoint. I will definitely be coming back to this place to try all their other delicious choices, but also for that Cobb salad...and for a salad to bring me back...now that says something.

This place is awesome. Looking for the best grilled cheese sandwich in the world? You'll find it here! Three different kinds of cheese (not the sweaty cheese either!) and this yummy mayo that will make you sink down in your chair. Not to mention what all grilled cheese sandwiches should have in them; sliced tomato! Great sandwich. Have also had the bbq pork sandwich and the seared ahi salad. Both great. Love this place!

Fantastic brunch! This place ranks as one of the best breakfasts in town. I had the shrimp and grits, with nice big prawns over really creamy grits. Eggs over easy, executed perfectly. There's a nice saute of well seasoned bell peppers and tomatoes, etc. under the eggs, all served with a generous side of creamed spinach. We've also had the rice and beans, a giant BBQ pork omelette, and a challah French toast with bananas Foster and hazelnuts. The sides of toast are thickly cut Bread Stop bread, served with a side of tasty looking jam with whole berries. Friendly, efficient service; coffee is offered constantly, and they serve a local, fair trade roast.

Resturaunt was clean, staff was friendly, food was delicious, manager came to our table and mingled, then he called Ninkasi Brewery and got us VIP access. Prices were very reasonable. Would recommend this to everyone. Five stars for sure.

After reading many reviews and seeing that this place has mac and cheese, I decided to go here and give it a try. The mac and cheese was very disappointing. It was creamy, but just too bland. After a healthy amount of salt and pepper from the shakers it was seasoned to even have some taste. The setting was not bad and open. However, parking in this complex is a pain, especially for larger vehicles. This place just gives off an aura that it is just trying too hard to be upscale.

Had the southwest chicken salad, it was good. But the order of fries with the buttermilk dressing took the show. They arrived HOT and awesome! A must. .

Originally I gave it 5 stars but my latest visit did not warrant any more than 4. Piss poor service doesn't deserve 5. Food is still AMAZING, probably my favorite place in Eugene. However I always find myself waiting to be seated while watching countless employees walking by and always ignored when I want to order/leave. In my first review I mentioned poor service when I tried to leave, but this time it was the entire visit.

We had the nachos for an appetizer. They were huge and delicious. The sandwiches were good. I didn't care for their beer selection so I had their jasmine green tea and it was awesome. Great service other then not being given the kids menu for my 5 and 7 year olds until we had already ordered.

Sundays are very busy wait was 30+min. Which they tell you up front. Breakfast drinks looked great if I didn't have to drive 4 hours I would have tried one. The food was amazing and large portions. I would have given this a 5 but the service was lacking. We were seated without menus so we had to ask in order to get service started we also had to ask twice for more coffee. Will be back next time we are in town

My husband and I LOVE Cafe 440 for lunch, dinner, and brunch on Sundays! We haven't ate anything there that we didn't enjoy. I recommend the BLT for lunch, the BBQ nachos for an appetizer for dinner, and eggs Benedict anything for brunch. The service isn't always great, especially when they are busy. But they have a great staff and great food.

I don't know why I haven't reviewed this restaurant yet. I guess I am too busy munching down on my favorite food here. The meatloaf, scallops, beef, salads, everything is great here. Good bar and wine and beer choices. Enjoy!

Fresh, locally supplied options that are so very tasty. The prosciutto wrapped jalapeños are delicious with a creamy goat cheese filling. The pork and beef teriyaki meatballs are huge and have a nice combination of asian flavors. My husband had the Caprese BLT and said he wishes he could eat it every day. I had the fried oysters appetizer - they were huge and tasted very fresh with a light crispy breading. The Halibut cakes were my most favorite - melt in your mouth. The service was on point, friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this little gem. Do yourself a favor - Check it out and bypass the usual chain restaurants. You won't be disappointed.

I have only eaten lunch here once. I have to say that the tomato jam on a sandwich I had was to die for and totally made an undeniably great first impression. I saw the Mac n Cheese dishes going around and it *must* be good. I can't wait to go back and try more. Just adding...went here for lunch during the week and there was a wait. That to me says something. ;)

I thought I would give an update....Two years later and I'm still lovin' this place. The BBQ pork nachos are FANTASTIC! I would normally not ever choose bbq pork for nachos but these are soooooo good! The menu changes about every three or four months but thank goodness these are constant.

Has breakfast after church last Sunday. All three of us thought our food was delicious! The service was great. We got to talk to the owner for a bit. They use local ingredients as much as possible, and are serious about customer service. If I lived in Eugene, I'd be back often!

Excellent strong cocktails, lovely TOMATO SOUP (creamy and savory), unremarkable GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH, and perfectly cooked SALMON (added to the house green salad). The prices are a little high ($15-$18 for lunch without drinks), but you're also paying for a chic-ish, professional ambiance. Would be a good place to meet someone for a drink or a work function. And it's right next to Growler nation, so you can pick up some beer (or my new love, kombucha )

I had the Reubens sandwich with sweet potato fries. Wow one of the best Reubens I have ever had. Make sure you are really hungry before you order this. First time I have visited this location. Found it on Yelp and glad I stopped here for lunch. The service was very prompt and the server and the hostess kept a close eye on the water level in my glass and refilled it multiple times.

FINALLY got the chance to actually eat here! AWESOME place! Service was FABULOUS & I even got to eat a grass fed burger! :) I wish the fries didn't contain wheat but the upside is that I ate a salad instead :) LOVE this place!

Great restaurant! In comparison to other places in Eugene, it's a little pricey. In comparison to a restaurant of this quality anywhere else, it's probably cheap. The staff is very personable upon first walking in, though often distracted by their many duties. The bar is small, and a little claustrophobic, but flows well with the architecture of the room. The design inside is very nice, with highly raised ceiling -- a rarity in Eugene. Their salads and sandwiches are superb, highly recommending the cafe for lunch. At night, they become more lounge-orientated with light live music on the weekends, usually packed with an older crowd. It has a nice ambiance. Their dinner menu is even better then lunch. It's a great place for a date, casual talk or business meeting within the city of Eugene.

Good service, nice open space. Had a good tomato soup. Chibatta rolls for sandwiches and burgers are small though. Great sweet potato fries. Here's my problem, the burger beef is disgusting. Grass fed from Knee Deep I think, and it's literally one of the nastiest foods I've ever eaten. A few other places are using grass fed, some are good, but this meat was disgusting. That and a non-toasted small bun put it way down on my list. Please change this nasty meat, get it off your menu!

Driving through and found this place. Was such good food and service. Very fast!! The shrimp Louis salad was so good. Dressing was very good. I don't like spice and it was slight on spice but not too bad that I couldn't eat. Turkey sandwich was good. The mac n cheese was really good!!! BLAT sandwich we took to go and it was yummy!! This was a good place for a quick yummy bite instead of fast food.

Stopped in for lunch on our way from Seattle to Oakland, OR. Not too far off I 5 and totally worth the detour! Hubby had the burger and brew special and my bite was delicious. The star was my bbq pork sandwich with coleslaw and sunflower seeds. Yum! The fries were crispy and just right. Service was attentive and friendly with lots of smiles. Would definitely recommend a stop when you are in town.

I don't give a 5 star rating lightly. So you know this place has to be good. The food was GREAT! Service was friendly & and checked on us regularly. Prices were a little high but the quality was excellent and well worth the price. A very good selection of different dishes that you don't find at most cafés. I will definitely be back here on my way thru. I am adding this place to my favorites list!

Friday night dinner w/ a friend and I was really hoping this meal would be fantastic from start to finish....and it was. We caught break... a Friday night where the Ducks were playing on the road so I think we had a break getting a table right after arriving around 6:30 pm. We sat in the bar area where there were a couple tv's on but wasn't too loud, I do think there should be some effort cutting down sound from the natural high exposed ceilings and cement floors but the food and the service made up for any sound issues. Our waiter, Ben, was really great! He was friendly and very attentive (though not overbearing) and good about checking our drinks regularly and didn't cop an attitude when my friend and I said we'd like to share a big salad and main course. The food.....we shared a wild green salad w/ strawberries, red onion, sweet/salty hazelnuts and goat cheese w/ homemade poppyseed dressing. The amount was really generous for two people and worth the 11.00. We shared the fried chicken plate. A nice chicken breast was coated w/ a nice layer of panko bread crumbs which sat on top of a creamy layer of mashed potatoes w/ chicken gravy and a few stalks of brocolini that was sauteed in a garlic oil...not too oily, perfectly cooked and AMAZINGLY good. The chicken breast melted in my mouth....you could feel it crumbling softly on the tongue w/ a nice crunch from the crust. The mashed potatoes were nicely seasoned and the gravy was a nice milk/flour season base and not oily/too buttery. We couldn't finish the potatoes but it wasn't for lack of trying or taste....we were just too full. No room for desert so I can't comment on that. I will definitely be going back to this restaurant again!!!! I think this place is worth the price and appreciate the effort on using fresh local and seasonal ingredients! UPDATE....I returned a few days later to have an early dinner at happy hour time. You can't beat a 3 dollar pint of local IPA (and other micro brew delicacies) and ordered (happy hour menu) the french fries (incl. side of buttermilk/chive dipping sauce) and the pork and beef meatballs, house teriyaki (with side of wasabi-ginger aioli). The same waiter, Ben, took care of me and again gave me very good service and I walked out of there w/ leftovers and less 12.00 dinner tab plus tip. A very happy diner here!

Love Love Love this place!! The food is consistently great! Excellent service and the owner is almost always there and very politely always checks in and asks if we need anything. Great salads and soups. I have never had a bad meal here. A+++++

Until they fire Jason, I will never return, and that is too bad because I like the place. How can anyone be this incompetent? As a bartender he cannot keep up, and as a waiter he would rather take a phone call that our order, to which he admitted. We left after 90 minutes and no food..... But had to pay full price for drinks. At least the staff will get to enjoy the shepards pie and chicken cordon bleu on Jason, as we said screw this, and headed to our favorite sushi joint. Phew.

So...I found out what people were talking about when they questioned the service. I took my mom here for our birthday dinner the other night, we thought we made a fantastic life decision. Somewhat similar to the life choice she made 29 years ago to share her birthday with me. Not happening. The service was absolutely out of some sort of "What not to do when you're waiting tables." training video. The waitress didn't introduce herself or even say "hi" to us, she just popped up and stood there, looking at us expectantly. Okay, that's awkward. My parents ordered and I noticed at that moment that nothing was being written down, come to think of it, I realize they don't write things down ever but it works for some people. Not this lady though. I ordered a Mahi-Mahi sandwich with fries. She confirmed I wanted regular fries, yes ma'am, regular fries indeed! I also ordered my beloved huckleberry kool-aid. Just bring me the huckleberry and let me show you how backwoods I am! Have I mentioned my love for huckleberry vodka yet? Our orders come out. Well my parents orders come out. I'm told mine will be out in a minute. Oh that's nice. Why are you serving two out of three guests? That's rude and more awkward than just standing there staring at us expecting us to know you're waiting to take our orders in the first place. My order comes out about five minutes later. I'm suddenly saddened to see sweet potato fries on my plate. I loath sweet potato fries. I'm sure they're delicious to everyone who likes that sort of thing, this girl though, get OUT of here with sweet potato fries. I took it as my hint that my day wasn't supposed to include fries and just ate the sandwich. The sandwich was lovely, the fish was delicious and generously portioned. My parents loved their meals as well, the food is not the problem here. Come on Cafe 440, let me continue to love you, fix your service! Let's also add that we were never really checked on during the meal. I guess it wasn't my mission to get tipsy off 8 dollar drinks either, only it kind of was. Cool, thanks for watching out for my pocketbook and not padding your pocket?. The waitress just sort of hungout by the cash register the entire time, looking bored. Right because she wasn't checking on her tables or anything like that.

Another pleasant experience at 440 tonight. Being a Monday I didn't expect the crowd eating out and neither did management. In spite of being understaffed for the number of customers the crew working the dinner shift (especially our waiter Ben, who never stopped running) did well. Food is usually a consist ant B here with some occasional A or Cs and tonight was no exception. Oregon BBQ chicken w/marionberry was a solid B (if I hadn't asked them to hold the red onions it probably would have received an A). The Prawn pasta and the Salmon fish & chips each rated A minus. The Coburg Corridor is looking and tasting better everyday!

Sorry but this place used to be great, the service was awesome a long time ago. But it seems like they have decreased amount of staff and the service has gotten lousy. The food still seems to be OK but customer service is very important to me as well as most people. Cornucopia Cafe still has a great menu with great service will change my place of hanging out with friends back to Cornucopia.

Sorry to disturb the trend, yelpers, but Hubs and I went to lunch* at 440 this week and I was pretty disappointed. When it's late September in the South Willamette Valley, I order the caprese salad, and the tomato on my husband's hamburger is exponentially better than the ones that starred in my dish? Well ... it's gonna be all downhill from here. One of the things that always, ALWAYS, astonishes me about Eugene is how there is nary a business that serves a legit business lunch. 440 was no exception here. In spite of the fact that there were at least five open tables in the dining room, our party of two was made to wait awkwardly for 15 minutes. At that point, the hostess asked us, 'Are you SURE you don't want to sit outside?' to which we replied, 'ya-huh, we're sure!' It was then that she said, 'Well, why don't you just sit here then,' and motioned to a two-top that had been available the whole time. :-/ Our burger and caprese salad took 30 minutes to arrive after our order had finally been placed. The tomatoes were unripe, and thickly sliced. The basil dressing that accompanied the salad was very unlike actual basil; it was quite diluted and extra sweet, which meant the plate as a whole was very one note. We got the bill and left, 90 minutes after starting the process. There was still a modest crowd waiting to be seated, in spite of the fact that tables were available. Somehow 440 has become a hit with the north-of-the-river types, but I remain unconvinced. At this point, I'd much rather walk up to the Newman's window for lunch when I find myself on that side of town. *I notice a trend of substantially high ratings for singular brunch experiences, so mayhaps the staff here are simply more morning-types?

I like this place but I am confused with their eggs Benedict. The eggs are hot (and poached to perfection) but everything else is cold. I am not against cool spinach and tomato, but the hollandaise sauce is cold. I am not sure what others think of it but I want it to be hot! My husbands chicken fried breakfast was cooked to perfection! No complaints there. Fresh ingredients and the service was good and friendly.

Went here for brunch and the food was excellent. We got a veggie omelet and french toast for under $20. Pretty good. The cheese grits were excellent. However, they need to have a more efficient table busing system and a full-time hostess. When we got there, there was no one taking names. A guy that appeared to be a waiter/busser/bartender took our name. Several people were also waiting looking confused. Waiters looked like they were busing their own tables which made the wait a little longer than necessary. Tables would sit empty while the line accumulated out the door. I don't blame the waiters for this - our actual waiter was very good. But, given the popularity of the restaurant, it seems the management should suck it up and hire some people to bus tables, rather than have waiters and hosts do it.

We have been frequenting Cafe 440 for about 4 years now. It is our go-to spot for sure. We go most often for dinner, but their brunch is in my opinion the best in Eugene. My personal favs are the biscuits and gravy, french toast, and any mouth-watering eggs Benedict they cook up! The creamed spinach is also a delight. For dinner I can highly recommend the nachos with pulled pork. It's an appetizer but I get it for a meal often. It is HUGE and just as delicious. Also a great price for an entree. My other favorites are the fish and chips, anything with their pulled pork, and their caesar salad is oh so satisfying. Love the meatloaf they do, and also the teriyaki meatballs they do as an appetizer. I have not tried many of their more expensive entrees as we are usually on a budget and love the dishes I listed above so much. But when I see them served to other tables, I'm pretty sure I stare too much. YUM. Complaints about the service probably stem from the fact that 440 is often times very busy at dinner and even more so, Sunday brunch. It is a popular place because the food is really quality, and the atmosphere there is lovely. A perfect mix of romantic and/or business casual if you ask me! We are very fond of almost all the waiters, waitresses, hosts, and bartenders at 440 and they are always running around working hard even when you feel like the service is taking longer than you'd like. Also the owner Todd is there a lot and is always really welcoming. This is a raving review, and I mean every word of it. I have been meaning to do a this for some time now! Seriously though...don't come if you are super picky about service. You'll be seated, you'll be served. The workers are not ignoring you, just busy. And they are also so nice when interacting with people once they do wait on you... At least they are to us, because we are not moody or rude customers. :- )

I'm went here for happy hour last week. I can't say I'm impressed with their happy hour deals and prices, but at least the drinks were strong. Service took longer than I'm used to and the prices were on the high side for the 'cafe' name. I don't think id go back because of the prices for the type of food they sell, but everything tasted good.

Nothing ruins a place with fabulous food more than horrible service, which sadly is the case with Cafe 440. I have eaten here many times and have to say I've never been disappointed in the food, from sandwiches to salads to good Ole homemade Mac and cheese they really do a great job. However, unless I'm getting carry out I will probably not eat here again because of the service....I mean lack of service. The place gets busy and I'm pretty patient having worked in the service industry, but the staff here always seems flustered and too busy to actually provide service. The final straw was taking my mom out for her birthday dinner on a Monday night and the staff not even acknowledging us for more than 10 minutes as we stood by the front podium. No hello, we'll be with you as soon as we can, no giving us a wait time in passing, no nothing. So we left. Funny how such a simple thing can make or ruin a customers experience but it does and unfortunately for Cafe 440 it wasn't the first time.

My wife and I had a gift certificate to Onsen and we thought we would make a date night out of it. So what comes with a date night? Dinner of course, and how much better was it that this trip was a 5 star visit? Let me tell you... We got here around 7pm. We were seated immediately. Noise level was low, and the evening was gorgeous. Our server was on top of things and explained the specials they had for the night. Drinks kicked off the evening....I went with an oakshire IPA that was delicious. I cant remember the name, but it was a tribute to a Eugene brew master who passed about 5 years ago. My wife went with the special which was a Sangria...............something. A mixed drink with sangria as the main component. The bartender explained it to us, he was aiming for a refreshing drink to bring in the summer. That it was....very tasty. Props to the bartender. Dinner was so damn spot on, it's ridiculous. I had the salmon fish and chips. Let me elaborate.......I am what you can call a Salmon Snob. I have NEVER bought salmon from a store one time in my 29 years on this earth. That is because my father is one hell of a bad ass fisherman. He stocks up every year by going down to the Rogue River and catching Spring Salmon. In a span of 2 weeks he can usually bring home around 200+lbs....that's no exaggeration either. If you have ever had Spring Salmon from the Rogue, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. My salmon was coated in panko and cooked to perfection. It came with 2 pieces and I upgraded the bistro fries to sweet tater fries. HONESTLY, 1 more piece of salmon would have been awesome, but it wont cost them any stars. My dinner also came with coleslaw. The coleslaw was a little off (a bit too sweet) I do have to admit, but again...nothing that would cause them to lose a star. This may sound funny, but I didn't order a salad. Yet, they garnished my plate with a decent amount of lettuce. So yes....I bummed some honey mustard dressing from the wife and mixed up my garnishment and had a mini salad haha. I'm a resourceful mofo.... My wife's dinner was the Cobb Salad. All I heard from her was how good it was, so yeah I sampled it....and I concur....it was damn good. It had the dressing mixed into the salad and it was the perfect balance. They didn't drowned the plate, nor was it too light. In all, our bill was $37.00 with drinks. Price matched the service/food and it was completely worth it. Our first trip here was good, but this visit was GREAT.

I had the beet salad and my husband had the Cobb salad. They were both pretty good, but the decision to leave the bacon slices whole on the Cobb salad seemed a little weird. Why wouldn't ypu want it crumbled? Given the location, ambience, ingredients and portions, it seemed a little overpriced. Also the service seemed a little slow considering how many wait staffers there were compared to the number of tables. Not bad, just not wonderful.

Driving in and found this delightful place. We hit at noon rush hour just after a party of 8 but we were taken care of reasonably quickly. Loved my meatloaf sandwich and wife thought her clam chowder and turkey sandwich was excellent. plenty of food so no room for dessert.

I went here with six friends last night. We arrived at 6pm and were told that we would need to wait thirty minutes for a table. No problem! We all got drinks and had a grand time chatting. Unfortunately, thirty minutes turned into an hour, and although servers bustled past us many times, they failed to check in with us and update us during that extra thirty minutes of wait time. We finally got a table and ordered a bunch of delicious looking food. At that point it was another hour before we got our food, and for the majority of that time, no one checked in with us. We began to talk about the absence of service, and not surprisingly someone swooshed over to assure us our food was coming. At this point, we were not pleased. The server offered to send fries over to the table while we waited. But here's the thing. Our meals all came with fries. We didn't need more fries. What we needed was our food. We asked for a portion to be taken off the bill instead which the server agreed to. Our food arrived and was totally delicious - it makes me sad that I won't be going back because my nachos were fantastic. When the check came, the server had removed one drink and one appetizer from the total bill. This amounted to 12% off the total. We were most definitely not satisfied with this and requested more off the bill. They told us that the owner is a family man with kids to feed, and they couldn't offer us more. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think it's appropriate for servers to make customers feel bad for the business owner as a way to appease them after poor service. We were also told that the kitchen is very small and can only turn out so many meals at once. It seemed odd that this would be offered as an excuse for slow service when they seat more customers than they can feed. Ultimately we were given two bottles of champagne to take with us in addition to the 12% off the bill. The champagne retails at $7 a bottle, and while it was a lovely gesture, we didn't really want or need champagne. This restaurant needs to take a close look at their business model. I'd like to think that the business of seven customers is worth more to them than a 12% gesture and some cheap champagne, but hey, I don't own a restaurant. We were finally out the door at 9pm and will most definitely never be back.

Three of us went there for the first time. Coconut prawn app was wonderful. My chicken marsala special, my daughters meatloaf sandwich and my sons ribeye were all excellent! The only reason l didn't award 5 stars is........ Really, no American Express accepted!?? C'mon guys, open your doors to a bigger world of success! I'll pay 70 cents more per drink or one more dollar per entree!!!! Go for the 5 stars - Think outside the box!

Arrived fairly late in the evening on a week day, and despite the restaurant being fairly empty, the service was fairly lackluster. The meal started with a plate that our party could not finish--the jalapeno poppers, wrapped in prosciutto, stuffed with goat cheese, and topped with mango-lime coulis, seemed like a great idea in concept but was way too hot in practice. The goat cheese was not nearly enough to counteract the jalapeno, which made it really hard to eat all together. However, the entrees were very good. I had the braised lamb stroganoff, which was filled with lamb and covered with a delicious sauce with mushrooms and creme fraiche. I was able to also taste the beef tenderloin medallions, which were also very tender and served with very well-done mashed potatoes. Definitely a nice place to enjoy a casual meal, but perhaps with more people around so that there's better service.

Knocked a star off for their underwhelming Sunday brunch. A very poor experience but I don't want to dock them too much because they only serve this stuff one day a week for a limited period of time... Lunch and dinner are definitely their strong suits! Finally made it here on a Sunday for Brunch, and I kind of wish I had gone to Glenwood instead. The hostess quoted a 10 minute wait which is always nice to hear on a Sunday morning at any hot brunch spot in Eugene. When my friend and I sat down to wait I got a good look around the restaurant and noticed 4-5 empty tables, a few of them had yet to be bussed but the others were wide open. Assumed they were about to seat some of those ahead of us but ended up waiting another 5 minutes before those people were sat, and they weren't even at the empty tables I had seen. I guess there were more empty tables around the corner! I guess this must have been due to understaffing? Which is kind of lame for a restaurant do to their employees on a day they know they will be busier than usual. Waiters in Eugene are underwhelming enough when they ARE readily staffed. Anyways, onto the food... After ordering it was about a 30-35 minute wait for the food, which for two people is a bit extreme. I ordered the eggs benedict with avocado which at first glance looked pretty tasty, but unfortunately required a lot of salt, pepper, and sriracha. I really wish Eugene could get a good handle on a lemony hollandaise. Most hollandaise I've tasted in Eugene has been the same flavor, which makes me think most breakfast spots are purchasing the same packet hollandaise. There was way too much spinach on it as well, and that wouldn't have been such a problem if it wasn't raw spinach, blanched is better for eggs benedict. My tomato slices were also incredibly small and a little too ripe, meaning the skin peeled off in uncomfortable, awkwardly sloppy bites. The potato home fries were probably the worst I've ever had. I was expecting them to be crispier but they were oily and slimy and hard to eat. I probably only ate 1/4 of them, good thing I had tons of spinach to eat ;-) I don't even understand the concept of serving what are commonly known as jojo's as a breakfast side, what is so hard about hash browns??

Ambiance was great. My 4yr old and I had lunch there. The BBQ Mac n cheese is ok. The waiter told me they have the best rueben in town. I beg to differ. It was dry, didn't have enough sauce, seemed like they out it all on the griddle to get it hot but it was ice cold in the middle. I hate when my food is a thousand different temperatures. Bleh. Staff was friendly. Was seated quickly. All in all it was an ok experience. Probably won't go back though.

I've been here twice now and have been disappointed on both occasions. I wanted this place to be good, but I think I just have to throw in the towel on this place. The service is a disaster here and painfully slow. They seemed to be badly understaffed on both of my visits. One bartender, one server, and one very slow hostess/busboy. Their table turnaround must be pretty bad. I sat and waited for 20 minutes with 4 tables open, but needing to be cleared and cleaned. Then there's the food. I wanted to like this place since Eugene is slim pickings when it comes to good food, but man, very mediocre at best. Hamburger was dry and nothing special in any of the other entree options. Sorry 440, I'm giving up on you.

Came here for lunch on a Monday. The place wasn't packed but had most of the tables occupied. They also have an outdoor seating option. My friend and I were quickly seated. We ordered the mac and cheese with bacon bits and the pulled pork sandwich with fries. The mac and cheese was decent, a little bland, but the bacon bits saved that part. I added tabasco sauce as well. The portion was good for the price. The pulled pork was just okay. The fries were good. They were nice and crunchy, but not the over fried type of crunchy. I would have loved to have given this place 4 stars, but the service wasn't that good. No one checked on how we were doing during our meal and our waters were never refilled. We had to ask for our check, we had to ask for our water to be filled. But then again, this is Eugene where customer service is the last thing you should be picky about (just go to about any McMin's in Oregon, but that's another story).

Drove into town after a long day of traveling, and randomly selected this place. The atmosphere, customer service, and live music were wonderful. For never being in Eugene before - it felt like home! Then there is the food. Amazing!! Scallops & risotto were the best I've had before. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Amazing food. You must try the teriyaki meatballs with the ginger wasabi aioli. They were so moist and tender and absolutely fantastic. The pork sliders are another good choice as was the classic mac and cheese. The chef knows her stuff. Her food is delicious. We will be going back for more.

We went here after a full day of touring the University of Oregon campus. The food was fine, large portions for the cost and my salmon was cooked perfectly. I'd give the food more like 3.5 stars- good for what it was, but not exactly on a caliber with some of the places we ate at in Portland. Definitely more of a family-oriented restaurant, we sat next to a huge table with 4 or 5 kids roughhousing. The service was perfect! We had no complaints at all. Our waitress (I believe her name was Sabrina) was attentive and really great. Being from out of town, we asked her for some recommendations for what to do while we were here, and she took the time to write us a list of fun places to visit in Eugene; we were really impressed. One of the better places we went in Eugene!

Well, guess it could be just be one of those odd situations,, but we had two very bad service experiences the last two visits. First one was about a month ago. Hostess took us to our seats and we waited patiently..... We noticed that three or four employees were at the bar area having some good times together, giggling and sharing fun stories. Finally, one them broke free to come to our table. Ok, so what. Returned last night after reading this wonderful write up in the RG. It was a bit crowded as you could expect after getting some positive ink in the local paper. We waited about 5 minutes, not bad. Once we were seated I noticed another couple come in and were seated another couple came in and were seated next to us. We had been there at least 10 minutes with our water, but no other service. Once the other couple was seated, the waitress went directly to their table and began with the specials, etc. ok, so I'm thinking, maybe not our waiter? Nope, a few minutes later same young girl approached our table to take our order. This was definitely a Larry David moment, so do I say anything ,,,,? Or just deal with it. Well, two minutes later another employee joins in the love fest at the table next to us! Surprise, .. They were all friends!! How fun! I guess this is my punishment for always sitting at the cool table in high School cafeteria , Or was it? Anyway , food was good. Drinks were weak. To many other nice places to eat where the service is priority in this town. So was this review; informative? Lacking intelligence? Thought provoking?

I love supporting local as often as possible and this place is a gem! The owner is always there and happy to greet you and ensure you are taken care of. I went today to have lunch with my mother and grandmother, we had a great time. They were very busy so we had to wait quite some time for a table, but they were so nice and made sure they were constantly communicating with us as to when our table would he ready. I'll be back soon, thanks for the great Cobb Salad!

Known about this place for years, but just went there for the first time in a while the other day and had a great lunch. They still have a great staff like I remember from a couple years back. Good was good and came out pretty quick. I got some BBQ pork sliders that tasted "Carolina Style" which i always love. And they passed the "Still good cold the next day" test too, which usually means there are now low quality ingredients. Check them out!

I've eaten here a lot - my friends and I call it our "Cheers" bar. I finally got around to trying the Tenderloin of Beef with Fig reduction - served with mashed potatoes and Greens. OMG - it was unbelievable. The steak delicious, really tender, well-prepared to my taste. I loved the greens - felt I was getting the nutritional value and they were delicious and plentiful. I can't wait to have it again - I don't usually spend $20 for my main course during the week, but I won't resist having this again.

We left before even being seated because the customer service was so atrocious. Maybe I'm being unfair rating them without even eating the food, but if you cause me to walk out angry before I even get a table, I feel that you have earned your one star.

A friend offered to take me out to Cafe 440 after I shared with him I had never been. Normally I don't write reviews after only 1 visit, but given the experience and amount of items ordered, I have no problems sharing my first impressions. Dining room: The place was packed on a Wednesday evening at about 7:30. Where we were seated, the restaurant's open floor plan made my table feel somewhat exposed. Bar: Nice atmosphere. Several local beers on tap, good cocktails including decent wells. Menu: Think comfort food featuring a lot of standard cafe/BBQ fare. Some all-natural, regionally sourced proteins (beef and some pork) while others (chicken and some seafood items) are not. Offers soups, salads, burgers, classic entrees (ribs, fried chicken, mac & cheese, fish and chips, prawns) and a daily special. Food: Our party of 3 ordered a bunch of items and so I got to sample a significant chunk of the menu. The food is prepared using a lot of butter, salt and other no-so-healthful additions which, I'm sorry to say, is becoming more apparent in our national cuisine. Meats are cooked at correct temperatures. Sides are heavy; potatoes have lots of butter and cream, other vegetable sides have extra bacon for flavor which seem unnecessary. Fries (both types) are battered prior to frying. Veggies are prepared well; those that are cooked are not overcooked or mushy. Fresh veggies in the apps and salads are nice and crunchy. Vegetarian Friendly: Limited options before requesting substitutions or omissions. Portions: Generous. Service: We were dining with a generous regular, so it seemed great. Prices: Average, considering the size of portions and the quality of food. Sandwiches start at about $10, Entrees $14-20 range. Bottom line: Good for hungry Americans who like heavier, over-seasoned food on average than I. I'd come back when I was really famished for some standard grub. And to try the pear ginger martini from the bar.

There's a reason this place gets the great reviews it does. I've been here 4 times and all four times the food has been consistently great, the customer service is fantastic and the overall vibe is upbeat. I'd say it's probably one of the best (if not the best) restaurants in town. Oh did I mention it's CLEAN?!! I don't just give stars away, trust me on that one but they've earned my vote. I hope they keep it up!

The food is great. But the service does leave something to be desired. It's not horrible, however nobody ever seems to be in a great mood.

Food? Delish! Service? Another story. A friend and I popped in to Cafe 440 last week. We were seated at a table in the bar area, which I didn't think to question because it didn't seem to be a very "exclusive" bar area. But when our waiter finally tended to us, and asked if we were 21 (we are 19), he had to move us to a different table where we were FREEZING the entire night underneath a vent and right next to the door. We ordered our food from the waiter, who then did not check on us once for the next 45 minutes. We ordered at 6:15, then realized at 7 that we had been caught up talking but had not been served our food. The waiter had been basically avoiding our table, not even looking at us, so we had to wave down someone else. At that point, the waiter did come to explain that he forgot to put our order in. He offered to put half of it on the house. This pissed me off, because we could have already driven to another restaurant and eaten our food at this point. What further pissed me off, is that later after starting to eat our food, the waiter came to ask "is everyone happy now?" in a tone that I just did not appreciate. On that night, there was a small band playing in the corner, which was nice, but EXTREMELY loud - I had not seen this friend in about 8 months, and we could hardly hear each other talk. There was a local brewery offering samples, which is cool, but the "sample girls" were dressed a little bit slutty, and they were off taking selfie pictures for all to watch. We just didn't have a good experience here. Even our strawberry lemonades were just lemonade with some strawberry syrup thrown in. I expected more from this place. What saved this review, however, was the food. Pretty tasty. Nothing very memorable, but my fiesta salad w/ mahi mahi was pretty delicious.

I'm seldom enthusiastic about Eugene restaurants north of the river, but I have to make an exception for Cafe 440. The prime rib French dip is too good to pass up (I mean, really, how could a prime rib French dip NOT be good?), and the fries actually taste like potato, not dirty restaurant oil like at most places. Pretty much everything I've eaten here that isn't good for you tastes good, and I'd say something good about the bacon if I could find a way to do so without being redundant. The waitstaff is excellent, too, attentive and attractive enough that I wonder if the guy who does the hiring for the front of the house is a skeezy old lech. I kid; for all I know, it's a skeezy old lech of a woman. Seriously, the manager is probably just someone who realizes that pretty, shapely young servers are good for business...but it's not outside the realm of possibility that he's a perv. On the downside, attempts to eat healthy have been a bit less successful. The salads are unexceptional, featuring commercial-tasting produce that is okay by typical restaurant standards, but not by good restaurant standards. For the price, they could and should do better. Say it with me: No more wooden carrots! Also, the atmosphere is as uninspired as you'll find anywhere -- it tries to be kitsch and elegant all at once, and fails mightily -- and all those hard surfaces and sharp angles make for a very noisy acoustical environment. Uncomfy chairs, too. Cafe 440 is fast becoming popular with the Little California crowd, which probably means I need to stop eating there, but its popularity is at least somewhat deserved. Do yourself a favor though and don't go for lunch on a Friday. The food is pretty decent but it's not worth the wait.

So Yelp people, y'all said service at Cafe 440 was left to be desired, but the food was spectacular. Well you had one out of 2 correct. We had a great service person named Erin. She was a foodie just like us. She helped with our decision making even though we knew we came there to try the grilled peaches and BBQ pork nachos. But she told us all about their specials today for lunch, even their drink and soup specials. So we had to try the potato mushroom soup, house made ginger ale (refreshing), and the raspberry lemonade (talking about fresh, you can tell they pureed fresh raspberries and then strained them). Well all food mentioned above was fantastic. The soup was OMG and set the tone for the rest of lunch. The grilled peaches were wrapped in a fantastic prosciutto (that wasn't that salty at all) and it was served with arugula, goat cheese Gorgonzola, candied hazelnuts (delicious), and a balsamic reduction that brought it all together. BBQ Pork Nachos were just as wonderful. Now we added on sweet potato fries (I despise these mind you, but my mom loves them) that came with a horseradish fry sauce. That sauce made me change my mind about sweet potato fries, but I wouldn't eat them without the sauce.

The best eggs benedict in Eugene comes from this kitchen and is presented with simple perfection in their urban style cafe. The service during the busy weekend brunch hour is grand and is worthwhile the wait.

Eugene has alot of good Restaurants and i think cafe 440 is the best of the best. first i like how open the restaurant is, it feels very modern. the waitresses are very cute lol they have a good section of drinks and wine. i ordered the salmon fish and chips and it tasted so fresh. the salmon was juicy and not dry and the fries were great. i wish cafe 440 was up here in portland but next time im down in Eugene ill be there, i have to try the ahi burger.

When I go to a place that the average entree price is $15-25 I like to order their burgers first time. If they can't get a burger correctly cooked to order then I am not going to spend $25 on an entree. So I ordered their $11.50 Knee Deep cheeseburger medium. What I got was a well done cheeseburger, it is a travesty to overcook such good quality beef. Too hungry to wait for them to recook it I ate it anyways. The only thing enjoyable was the ciabatta bread bun on the burger. Don't waste your money here...it is just really over priced bar food. After I complained about the burger our server avoided us like the plague so in addition to having my expensive cheeseburger incorrectly cooked, the service was lacking.

I have been here twice and waited to review them. Well i feel the same as the first time, good food and fair service. The things that keep me from coming back are the prices and the atmosphere. The place is really sterile , clean and neat but sterile. I like a bit of personality and originality in a restaurant, they just are simple and plain. If they were warmer with lower prices like some others in town I would be here every week.

I have been to Cafe 440 several times but hadn't been there for Happy Hour. I met a friend yesterday and totally enjoyed the experience. The location is in a strip mall but the decor is cool and comfortable. They have a unique menu and reasonable prices. We had the pork sliders ~ which I LOVED ~ and the salmon cakes. We had the mixed drink special of the day, a banana, coconut, rum concoction that was delicious. I've enjoyed my past visits to 440 but it will be on the top of my Happy Hour haunts. It's great!

Had the ahi tuna salad which was delicious. Waitress was fast and attentive, but it was odd because she never introduced herself or welcomed me to the restaurant. The first time she came to my table, she just stood there and looked at me. It was very awkward, but perhaps she wasn't sure if another server was already taking care of me. Place has a good atmosphere, everything on the menu sounded yummy, some outdoor seating, nice drink menu.

Mmmm, mmmmmm, MMMM!! There's a new menu at 440, and It Is Good! They have several new lunch and dinner sandwiches (I tried the turkey/apricot last night, and OH WOW...looking forward to trying the others, too!) They have new salads, too (my sweetie tried the Mahi Mahi Taco salad...and, well, that'd be another OH WOW! moment, I'm thinking). They also have a BUNCH of new dinner entrees - a marsala, something wonderful with skirt steak, a fricassee...and more, more, more! We go to 440. A lot. We were told a new menu was coming "soon" last month...and have been not-so-patiently waiting. This menu...OH WOW...definitely worth the wait!!

Slow service, frozen, over cooked, salmon cakes, flavorless no name meat in burger, reminiscent of my kids horrible school lunches. Even the sweet potato fries were burnt. Staff was wonderful, cook needs a visit from Gordon Ramsey!

This place used to be good we come in as a party of 5 all the time for the last 2 years and normally we love the food but lately it's been gross the food is bland and under cooked they served me raw chicken more then once as well as I had a moldy bun.:( I have a friend who works in the kitchen Paul who told me the burgers are frozen and they use outdated food for there soup so they can sell it.. The large bartender Robby is really rude and creepy and was talking about how big my breast are and how he can see my nipples. As well as the sever refereed to us as the "2 black bitchy lesbos" I am outraged and wouldn't say a good thing about how this place operates they have no respect for people. Maybe if the cooks weren't so stoned and cared about food we would have been a little nicer But if you like to be treated like trash and want nasty food go here and get sick. The food is so sad it looked like It should have been euthanized and put out of its misery.

My friend and I happened onto Cafe 440 during a recent business trip from Washington state to California. We were dreading the possibility of a fast food dinner when a friendly local suggested Cafe 440. We were greeted by a welcoming staff who seated us quickly and made sure we were comfortable while describing the specials, delivering libations and answering any questions about the menu. We both ordered the blackened rib eye and what a treat! The steaks were delicious, the veggies were crisp yet tender and the potatoes with garlic-basil butter was to-die-for. Overall, the experience was exceptional with a lovely presentation and food quality that rivaled anything we've tried in So Cal. Compliments to the staff who worked as a cohesive team to ensure our dining experience was a memorable high-point in the trip. If I lived i Oregon I'd be a weekly regular. I highly recommend Cafe 440 when you are in the Eugene area.

Cafe 440 does simple dishes very well. That is their strong suit and they are not intending to be anything else. You are not coming here to get our culinary socks knocked off--you come here because it is CONSISTANT and offers an opportunity to support a local business. I have seen the owner at the restaurant 95% of the time I have been there and that says a lot for his commitment to achieving a consistent restaurant experience. There are several items on the menu that are very good. However, if you order the special every time you go, you will not be disappointed. Lastly, they have a well-stocked bar with qualified bartenders. Café 440 does not disappoint.

This review is strictly for the Sunday brunch menu as I have not yet tried other menu items. The eggs benedict is a must try, delicious! I am a big fan of hollandaise sauce if it done right and they manage to do a great job here. The only way I think the hollandaise could have been improved is by adding a tad of cayenne which the server brought me with a smile. The home fries were seasoned to perfection. My friend ordered the pulled pork eggs benedict and he was definitely impressed, and he is a bit of an east coast food snob...hard to impress. This is my new favorite breakfast spot. The prices are just a little higher than average but I have no problem paying a little more for quality food. I also had to try a side of sausage gravy and I'm glad I did. It was homemade and had a great flavor. I have been looking for a place that serves decent sausage gravy and I've not had much luck in this town. ...thank you Cafe 440 for coming through. If you enjoy a good Sunday brunch and like supporting locally owned businesses, give Cafe 440 a try!

Duuuuuuudes! ....and dudetes, of course. I gave breakfast here a shot the other day = fantastic!! Right from the start (despite a 20 min wait) the experience was positive. The man who was at the door taking names was the epitome of awesome--pleasant, funny, honest. Turns out... that man is the owner. Go figure. That would explain why he was so intent upon "protecting his team". As I enjoyed my chicken fried steak... which was among the best I've had... I had a few occasions to chat with him and a few of his staff. I was interested in what the staff thought about the guy. The reviews were all as good as what I was seeing. The food was outstanding (keep in mind this is one dish and one trip), but seeing the commitment shown by the ownership was what really earned my repeat business. There's no way I can see myself not supporting such a grounded local business. Several thumbs up for cafe 440!

My first visit for Sunday morning breakfast. Wait wasn't to bad maybe 20 min. Owner was very polite as was the server, but the time between ordering and getting what I ordered wasn't what I would have expected from this type of cafe. Food was very good as I had chicken fried and eggs. I was disappointed that when my bill came drink was $2.50 as it is all other restaurants. But they added a $.75 charge for refill of Arnold Palmer aka ice tea and lemonade I am giving food a yes, but services and hidden fee's took me from a 4 to a 3. I might come back and try lunch or drinks and music on Tuesday's.

First, let me say, I am very sad to update this review... going from 5 stars to 3. Since moving to Eugene a month and a half ago I have been to this Café at least 5 times. I enjoyed many things off of the menu, it was all delicious. My husband and I went back today to eat our favorites and try some things that we had been wanting to try.... but we were very disappointed to find a large portion of their menu changed with our favorites and things we wanted to try gone (it changed a week and a half ago so they told me). Unfortunately, I was less than impressed with their new menu. While I'm sure there are some gems on their new menu, it just didn't seem all that appealing to me. I settled for their burger with cheddar cheese and sweet potato fries. The burger was ok, nothing extraordinary about it. The sweet potatoes were delicious as always, especially with the horseradish dipping sauce. My husband had the chicken enchiladas. He said they were pretty good. We also had a slower (I think new) waitress today and introduced herself by saying "hey" and just stood there waiting for us to say something. I didn't realize she was actually talking to us until I looked up, I thought it was another patron saying hi to the people at the table next to us. We waited a long time to order and get our drinks. Sometimes that happens, no big deal. If you go, try to sit in Ben's section. He's friendly and good at his job. While this café has a unique menu that I am sure has delicious items, I won't be back for entrees any time soon. Sorry Café 440, I just can't do it.

You know Eugene get's to be a place, where after while you feel as if you've eaten everything there is to be offered. Cafe 440 never feels that way. There is so much good food and a great ambiance that I will try to eat there as often as I can. I've always had such great service, and even through those long waits on Sunday's, the food makes up for it all. I recently went to 440 with some friends where our wait was quite long but the owner was incredibly vocal and made sure everyone that was on the list knew when there turn was coming up. He kept apologizing to us and letting us know what was going on. Hell I'll wait as long as you want, with that attitude! We were so appreciative of the owner and our waitress who did a wonderful job getting us what we needed. I go there for the grits and egg benedict's. I don't know about you all, but man their bennies are addictive! Also those grits are some of the best grits i've had, like ever. I like to order a side of extra crispy bacon and make bacon spoons out of them to eat my grits with. Try it sometime, you won't regret it. I had the corn beef hash bennies with a side of grits (no bacon this time) and it was heavenly. Between the potatoes, the hash and grits I was smiling on the inside as I shamelessly stuffed my face. I've said it before, besides the food, it's the people that make a great restaurant. And I have to hand it to Cafe 440 for keeping their wits about them when it's hectic. I'd like to buy you all a shot. Lol.

Had the Fish and Chips and Chowder and was impressed. Service was great but acoustics a little loud and I can see if this place got packed it would be very loud. Tasted my one daughters Man N Cheese and it was food. This is a place worth coming back to. Place was clean, also.

Excellent! Food here is unique and delicious. I had the ahi tuna sandwich with black bean coconut soup. Both were fabulous, I would order both again. Hubby had the Brisket Bandito and liked it very much. Waitress was excellent and attentive, her name was Julie. Yes you may have to wait for a table especially on Friday night, but it's worth it!

My husband and I have been to 440 a number of times. We have always enjoyed the food and speciality drinks, but the service was always so bad; the employees were rude and the service was disorganized. So we stopped going. It's been about a year since the last time we went so we decided to give them another try. I'll start with our original issue, the service. Our waitress was very pleasant, but the rest of the staff didn't seem to want to be there and did a poor job of hiding it, a young man in the kitchen had on large headphones while he cooked. Pretty typical from what we experienced in the past. The food, as usual, was really good and the prices were good as well. We had the sweet potato fries (these fries are what all other sweet potato fries should aspire to be), the fried oysters, the beer cheese soup (impossible to mess up), and the peanut chicken bowl. The chicken bowl was delicious, but the serving size was a bit extreme, it's more for two people. We also had a speciality drink, it was something with blueberry puree and huckleberry vodka. It smelled exactly like a gummy bear! It was also delicious. Since it was a Tuesday around 7:30pm it wasn't busy. Other times we've been there it was busy and it didn't seem like the service could handle it. Maybe the best time to go is a random time during midweek.

I say lots of things are great, and I have no regrets, but I love Cafe 440 in a romantic sort of way. I normally touch on staff and ambiance which is all great here, what gets me going with 440 is the FOOD FOOD FOOD. I've had the BBQ pork nachos, and they are simply the best in Eugene thus far. So much pork, guac, cheese, salsa... Amazing. I've had the meatloaf sandwich and their ahi salad. Both are great. The ahi is seasoned perfectly and always seared well. This last time I had their buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. It is, on my own life, the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. Toasted ciabatta with a buttermilk marinated fried chicken breast, a chive aioli with some pickles. It's fantastic. I'm uploading a picture for you all to think about. Please go here. I've been 4 times and don't have a single complaint. Consistent, high quality, priced well, and an original and WONDERFULLY DELICIOUS menu. I have some leftover I'm going to eat now.

Salmon fish and chips are mighty tasty, with the salmon breaded in panko which gives it a good crunch without being greasy like other types of breading. The French fries had a nice coat to them too, giving them a solid crunch. Their house ginger ale was also refreshing, but I was surprised initially when it came out with a pinky color and chunks (assuming ginger) in it. The tuna starter was satisfying, but I think I prefer my fish not cut into cubes and rather larger pieces to enjoy. The mac n' cheese (we added bacon) was overhyped and the local root beer just a'ight. Not overly impressed, but seems like a good place to bring parents and family to.

I was in Oregon for like 3 days. I hadn't had seafood yet and my buddy told me to come here. I wanted scallops dammit. Upon entering, I'm told, "we're out of scallops, and crab." Ughhh! It's all good though. The prosciutto-vodka prawn pasta was heavier, but delicious. The ahi poke, was seriously great. I'm a huge sushi fan, so the raw ahi was welcomed. I l also had the ahi crunch salad which I also enjoyed. Full bar, and seriously GREAT service. Our server was not over the top, just a chill guy who handled business. I wish I could remember his name so I can Facebook stalk him and learn where his children go to school. This to me, is easily a 5 star location if the simply didn't run out of my scallops. Run scallops, run.

Good beers on tap. Went for happy hour. Had a caprese type sandwich and the deep fried oysters, both HELLA GOOD. It's not downtown though so I don't go nearly as much as id like....kind of expensive and seemed like snobby wealthy customers ..borderline fancy... But I enjoyed none the less!

Vegetarians: this place is not for us. You can spend a lot of money for a prettily plated paltry salad or some teeny yummy chunks of goat cheese, but even the aps are overpriced. Music can be great but so friggin' loud. Not easy to hold a conversation while live music is playing. Nice enough ambiance otherwise. Mixed experience with waitstaff. My meat eating friends sometimes like this place but it's disappointing for a vegetarian an the prices are obnoxious.

I really enjoy Cafe 440 for a few reasons. The service is spot-on. The servers are casual (shorts, jeans, etc.), but they are very professional and helpful. Our server last night, Kevin, was just that, along with being amiable and sincere. The tables are mostly nicely spaced - where I was sitting, I was not afraid of ramming into the person behind me if I got up. There are also fun, long benches in the back. It's a very open layout, which can be kind of loud when it's busy. Now for the food. I'll upload a couple of pictures later, but I had the shrimp and grits, and my boyfriend had the crispy cornflake fried chicken. We also got the pork belly sliders as an appetizer. The pork belly sliders were really good. The pork was tender and flavorful, with some crunchy slaw and a little hint of bleu cheese. I would have liked the buns to be toasted, but it was really good anyway. The cornflake fried chicken was juicy, crunchy, and basically dipped in honey. I believe the description said, "drizzled," but there was a lot of honey involved. It was delicious, however it would have been great with half as much honey. It was just a bit on the sweet side for a dinner. Still... delicious. It came with a wilted kale side that was amazing, and mashed potatoes. The shrimp and grits... well. This was my first experience with grits, and I will not expect any other experiences to be quite so heavenly. It was so good. So, so good. It had loads of butter, cheese, some chopped tomatoes, I believe, and maybe onion... I would get this again. And again. The bathrooms were clean, the food was great, the service was wonderful. The prices are not insane, and it's a pretty casual atmosphere. You can go there on a date, with friends, whatever. I'll be back.

Went here the other day and had an amazing experience! Although the food is a bit pricey for lunch it is so fresh and so worth the extra money. I had the original Mac n cheese and my mom had the salmon fish and chips. Both of these were absolutely amazing! The atmosphere is good and the place is clean. Would definitely recommend this place!

I thought I was going to like this place ... Service is good ... Menu looks great ... Ordered salmon fish /chip ... The chips = good French fries .. The fish ... Well the batter was at least 1/8" in thick .... Thickest I have ever eaten .... And the ahi tuna salad ... Drowning in soy ...5hrs later ... I have drank 2 liters of h2o & I'm still thirsty

Cafe 440 is fantastic. I arrived Wednesday around 1115, had my drink very served to me in the lounge area with very quick, fast service. My BBQ Pulled Pork Mac n Cheese with a side of home made Buttermilk and chive Ranch came 15 minutes later! It was so good it brought back old memories of home cooked meals. I don't think I'm in a restaurant...right? This is home isn't it? This can't be a restaurant. Eat here dang it!

Excellent neighborhood eatery. Good menu for discerning adults with taste for local brews & wines, plus a yummy selection for kids. All local fare - comfort foods too. Staff is very friendly, good service. They make a homemade ginger ale that hits the spot for non-drinkers.

Ali and I were turned on to this place by a co-worker. This restaurant is bonkers from the food they serve to the drinks they offer to the stellar service that they treat each guest to. I meant to write a review after our first visit which was also a 5-star experience. The Sunday brunch menu offers an eclectic mix of flavors and meldings for a discerning palette/foodie. Ali is a traditionalist when it comes to Eggs Benedict and she opted for Eggs Benedict with avocado. The eggs were poached to perfection and Ali commented that Cafe 440's hollandaise is the best she's ever experienced. Before I could comment I had a smattering of hollandaise on her fork in my mouth. I agree wholeheartedly, they've got a spectacular hollandaise. Ali also enjoyed a few drinks. The first was a champagne spritzer if you well with raspberry followed by a second with Marionberry. We both thought the Marionberry was the better of the two. I had the Chicken fried steak which is a breaded filet mignon. I also opted for a side of red beans and rice while Ali got a side of cheesy grits. I got a spicy cilantro bloody Mary and it was by and far the best Bloody Mary I've ever had. Fast forward to today and we both had a pretty brutal 12-shift and got off at 0730. Ali decided to try the sweet and spicy eggs benedict which has an absolutely delicious sausage with good hints of sweet which pairs well with the sriracha drizzle stop their already amazing hollandaise. She loved it and she enjoyed a mango champagne spritzer. I am usually that guy who finds a dish I like and sticks to it. I loved the chicken fried steak dish and will most certainly order it again but the menu is such that you want to try everything. So on this visit I thought I would enjoy the shrimp and grits. Holy crap!!! It has creamed spinach in with the grits. This dish is soooooooo freaking tasty. So now my go to dishes are the chicken fried steak and the shrimp and grits. They cooked the shrimp to perfection. So this week the Bloody Mary special was a tomato basil and a spicy tomato basil and I went for the one with kick. It is a really good Bloody Mary but my fave is still the spicy cilantro version. So they've got great food, and delicious drinks but I have to comment on the awesome service that they have. We've been there twice and have gotten exemplary service from both our servers and notice similar service received by other tables in this establishment. We will most certainly be back and I emplore you all to check out their Sunday Brunch.

This place is really good! Met up with some friends and we shared a variety of dishes. This is one of those restaurants that has a lot of really great items on the menu, so much so that I took a while to figure out what to eliminate. The drinks were quite expensive, but also very good so I stopped with one. The service was okay, our waitress was reasonably attentive, but also appeared to be distracted each time we interacted. The parking can also be a bitch when it's busy or you have a large truck.

Good lunch. I had the ahi poke salad. Hit the spot without being too heavy for a lunchtime meal. Parking lot was ridiculously crowded, however, they share the lot with several other businesses. Obviously a popular lunch spot. I would go back.

They had many great sounding menu options, but I didn't like the salmon fish and chips. The sweet potato fries were too sweet and tasted like they'd come from Costco. I also didn't like the breading on the salmon. It was too hard. The sauce that came with it was wonderful though. I also liked the coleslaw. I will probably go back to try the other tasty sounding options. The server was nice.

Missed happy hour (ends at 6) but burger and brew was awesome! Not too expensive with good service. My parents favorite restaurant.

Sunday breakfast? Go here. I can't say anything about the normal fare, but breakfast here is f*ing delicious. This place is great.

I've eaten here countless times for brunch, lunch and dinner, and never had anything that wasn't super delicious. The food is delicious and the menu is creative enough to please me but 'American' enough for my husband. The cocktails are delicious too, and I'm quite picky about cocktails! Cafe 440 is my go to for good local eats.

Love this place! CONSISTENTLY really good! I love that they have both indulgent (the best pulled pork naxhos!) and healthy (roasted beet or different salmon salads) options that are equally delish! Way to go Cafe 440

My husband said he could have gotten a bigger better-tasting burger at a fast food restaurant. I had a southern style fried chicken sandwich and took two bites but just thought it tasted funny. I tried a couple more bites as I was starving and hadn't eaten all day. It tasted and smelled like weird fish. Six hours after our meal I had such severe food poisoning that it is now 1:33am and I am just getting home from the Emergency Room because I had such severe food poisoning. It has been the worst 29 hours of my life. I will never be going back to Cafe 440 again!

This place is a staple to our diets! The burgers and sandwiches are fabulous. My husband loves the salmon fish and chips. Great service. Great menu. Great ingredients!!! We highly recommend!

I picked this place for its progressive menu and its solid reviews from fellow Yelpers, but it just wasn't everything I had hoped it would be. We started with the coconut prawns, which were sort of chain restaurant-esque, and then the mac 'n cheese (who doesn't love mac 'n cheese?). I had the grass fed burger, which was pretty disappointing. The burger was exactly what people dislike about grass fed... chewy, lacking flavor, and much too lean to make a good, juicy burger. (I've had plenty of GREAT grass fed burgers, but this one just did not do grass fed justice.) The fries were also kind of sad. If given a redo, I'd probably skip Cafe 440 and try something else in Eugene.

Took my husband and two small kids to Cafe 440 for a late lunch today. The menu was what brought us in and the food was not disappointing! I had the roasted beet salad and it was amazing, and the tomato basil soup was delicious as well. My husband had the ahi sandwich and soup of the day (a mushroom bacon something rather ) and was very pleased. The only complaint I would have is that the service was slow when you've got two kids. Overall, extremely pleased and we will be returning again soon (without the kids)!

GREAT place! came here after the msu vs uo ftball game over the weekend and had an amazing meal. It wasn't very crowded which was shocking and service was great! Our whole party LOVED everything we got: -Pork mac n cheese was BOMB omg get it you wont be disappointed. The BEST mac n cheese i have ever had -Chicken pesto sandwich was fab, and the sweet fries were perfection -meatloaf sandwich- not something i would choose but the ppl loved it overall GREAT food, make your resi's now!

The food was amazing! Halibut cakes were to die for, the fried chicken is still making my mouth water, and the mac and cheese put my Grandma to shame. The mashed potatoes were amazing, basically everything was amazing. I will be back! The service was spot on and the atmosphere was relaxing. Now I'm trying to find excuses for my husband to take me there in a couple weeks. :)

Still a great place to go, beware of the Salmon fish and chips batter is all wrong. Ahi sandwich good could have used more pepper. Waiter Alexia is great Host excellent Other serves great

Food was very good! The fried oysters were amazing & I am very picky about my seafood. They are just lightly battered and quickly fried so they aren't raw but are hard either. Fresh taste. The chipole aioli was a great add but the herbs they used to garnish really put the flavor over the top - DELISH. The poppers were excellent! A great spin on traditional jalapeño poppers. You can't go wrong presciutto, goat cheese & jalapeños no matter how you put them together. The cocktail was good and strong! You can't ask for better then that. My only gripe, is the service was a tad bit slow. To their defense, it was a little busy, and I was by myself so maybe if I had company the time would have gone by quicker. Worth the stop.

Tried to show up to take my mom and fsmily to breakfast on a today (Sunday) and stood a the hostess station with a party of four for 5 minutes and was not even acknowledged by any member of the staff. We were looked at by at least 3 of the 7 or so front of house staff members with 3 of them within arms reach. Nobody had the "time" to even smile or say "we will be right with you". Unacceptable. The food may be great, but your service is terrible. We will not be returning. I hope this is read by management, and we will be calling to voice our complaints as well.

We stopped here on our way to Portland because of the favorable reviews on yelp and we are THRILLED we did. We ordered the meatloaf sandwich, the buttermilk chicken sandwich, the reuben sandwich and the pulled pork mac n cheese. They were all so good that none of us could decide on a favorite! Simply fabulous food. My only complaint was that the portions were too large and it took them a couple of minutes to acknowledge our presence when we walked in. However, the service once we were seated was excellent. Highly recommend.

Wow. Just wow. Easily the best nachos I have ever had. When you ask the waiter if something on the appetizer menu will be enough food for an entree and he doesn't hesitate to say yes, that should be a sign. When my mountain of pork nachos came out I was pleasantly surprised. When I took my first bite I nearly entered a food coma. My wife got the pork Mac and cheese and, wow, what an amazing combination. She also got the beer cheese soup and I can't think of a time that we have enjoyed a soup this much. If I had one negative thing to say about our experience, and I can't believe I would ever say this, the drinks are too strong. I swore I would never say that. But this is easily overlookable when the food is simply the best food in Eugene.

Sunday brunch is fantastic, but get there early! They stop seating at 12pm, we saw multiple people turned away. With that said, I am so thankful we got a table because the food was to die for! I had the pulled pork Benedict, and it was perfect. The hollandaise was tangy and thin, and the pork was a perfect texture with a delicious BBQ sauce. Awesome service, friendly people, but an exclusive brunch. Get there early, because it is worth the wait!

Sunday at 9am got in quick. Had the special: meatloaf eggs Benedict with a blue healer cocktail (muddled basil, gin, blueberry purée, champagne with fresh floated blueberries). Both were excellent! Husband had the Spanish coffee with chicken fried steak, also delish. By 10am the place was packed with a waiting list so definitely get in early!!

Service. Much to the surprise of most of Eugene's restaurants, service matters. Food is most important, but service matters. Enough to lower the experience two stars. I very much like their food....(the fries would be better if hand cut, but the frozen suffices). However, they have to figure out staffing. The servers are nice enough, but there seems to be no sense of urgency or communication with the client. One simple trick, and there is no arguing this.... if you make contact within 2 minutes, and put a beverage in front of someone within 5 minutes (that's an eternity), the guest will be happy.....unless they ask you for ranch and you forget to bring it. I like the food and atmosphere enough, I will give them one more shot. And it's within walking distance of my wife's office so it's easy for lunch....if we can get it in a timely manner. Less than 30 minutes? Forget it.

Sunday brunch here is excellent!! The lox benedict was prefectly cooked. I always order my hollandaise sauce on the side because it's often not done well, this one was excellent . Great texture and perfect amount of citrus. Side dishes - creamed spinach and cheesy grits are very tasty. Go early or they may run out of your favorite. Plan on a short wait (20/30) if you go for Sunday brunch but the staff is attentive and friendly . Have a drink at the bar and enjoy the experience. I say it is a must try.

Great food, great service: This place has become a hot spot in the Ferry Street Bridge neighborhood. I've had dinner there three times, and the food and service have been excellent each time. Meatloaf dinner the first time: savory tomato sauce on top of a generous portion of meatloaf that was delicious; mashed potatoes to die for; brussels sprouts roasted in olive oil with bacon bits and other seasonings ... yum! Servers are very accommodating, patient and flexible (we had a table of eight on one evening, with people arriving at different times and various appetizers/drinks/entrees being ordered, etc.). They went out of their way to make us all happy. If you haven't been, go! Only thing that prevents me from giving 5 stars? It gets kind of noisy when the place is busy, which it almost always is.

We had previously only been to Cafe 440 for their awesome Sunday Brunch. It's absolutely the best breakfast in town. It's a good thing it's only offered one day a week or it's highly likely we would be in there every single morning! Today we came in for lunch for the first time. Their menu has a lot of unique things on it and I've always been intimidated thinking I wouldn't find something I liked. We got margaritas to drink, which we have had before during our brunch trips (yeah they're that good that it's okay to drink one at 10am haha) to eat my boyfriend got their sandwich special for the day which was a grilled chicken breast with their house buffalo sauce. He took one bite and told me it was one of the best chicken sandwiches he's ever had!! I got their knee deep burger with a cup of the tomato basil soup. I don't usually order burgers out because they're so often over-cooked at restaurants here. There wasn't any pink in the burger but it was the BEST burger I've ever had anywhere in Eugene. I added American cheese, avocado, and bacon. And unlike so many places they do NOT skip out on avocado, they gave me SO much. Whole experience was great and now we'll definitely be in for more than just breakfast!

Service here is always excellent. even though I did not like thier chive dressing server tried hard to find something I would like to compliment my pulled pork salad. I wanted blue cheese but could not have due to pregnancy. everything was really goodI liked the pork belly sliders. Clam chowder was excellent. Pulled pork on my salad was ok but a bit bland. They were super nice and helpful with my 6 yr old. It was loud because they had live music but the music was good so I did not mind. I have updated my review to 5 stars. I have started eating here like 5 times a week. I love brunch everything is amazing. If u don't try anything else try their house made ginger ale. Omg I thought I died it was soooooo good. Fried green tomatoes also a yummy gem.

Who would have thought to cook a brisket in ancho chile sauce & serve it over cheese grits topped with cotija cheese? The flavors are perfectly balanced. This chef is a culinary genius.

This place can sometimes be more hassle than it is worth. The parking lot is not laid out very well for how many business are crammed in together. The food is hit and miss - their pulled pork nachos are probably the best nachos I've had, but I have also eaten what I consider one of the worst burgers I've had here. That is not to say ALL of their burgers are bad, just that they aren't always great. For the most part, the food is pretty good and they have a selection of beers on tap. Also, when trying to come here on a busy day, the service may be on the slow side. For the most part, service is decent, and this place has pretty good food. It is worth checking it out to decide for yourself, but I definitely recommend the pulled pork nachos!

I have Cafe 440 a second shot today. It was hard to return, but I've heard so many people talk about how they like it, and that the restaurant touts itself as being farm to table. I was VERY disappointed and will not be back. Service was decent, although the server did not come back to check on us right away, which irks me, especially when there's an issue. Their iced tea is Lipton. Wth?! Yuck. I passed on it and stuck with water. Soant good teas in the world and you have to serve the bottom of the barrel generic. Hmm. Fries are from a package and frozen. Wth?! No place that is farm to table does not cut their own. Major letdown. (These ended up being comped because I did not like them enough to consume...salty, flavorless, FROZEN.) Kid's mac and cheese was mediocre (still) and came with nothing else. My beet salad was good, but the organic greens were not farm fresh. They were the restaurant supply version. Goat cheese was tasty, as were the crispy beets on top. The roasted beets were very cold and...slimy. I was hoping they'd be like caramelized as slow roasting often does, but they were a disappointment and I left those on the plate. Meh. Basically this is a place that wants customers to think they're farm to table by using a few items here and there and buying into the trend, but in reality they cut corners and have little to no interest in truly supporting and working with the local farmers. Their chefs should consider visiting some Ashland or Portland dining establishments to see what farm to fork/table really means. Epic Disappointment. (The waiter pulled Heinz ketchup out to offer with the previously frozen fries too. Hello. Make your own or get a local brand. If you want to talk the talk, walk the walk.)

What a gem. Fresh, made in house. Stumbled in at happy hour, wasn't even hungry. Took the recommendations and had me the BBQ pork nachos. Great! I wouldn't say the chips were cut in house... But okay~ Went for the halibut cakes. Fantastic! The greens didn't look fresh from a farm, but heck it was like $7. Must say probably the best food/$ I've had in a long time. Not the most foody place, like the ones you see in Portland, but a very competent place! Iced tea did taste generic... Definitely not brewed in house, but I didn't ask. For a quick bite, I had a good meal. Would definitely come back if I was in the area.

My family and I were on a road trip from the Bay area to Washington. We needed to stop in Eugene for food. I looked on Yelp to help me decide where we were going to eat. Café 440 seemed to be a good fit. I am SO glad we chose this restaurant! I ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos and my husband had the Cob Salad with Ranch dressing. Both were AMAZING! The kids were just as happy with the kids menu. You can tell the food was made with love! The staff was super friendly and accommodating. I couldn't stop dreaming of their nacho so I made my husband stop on the way back down to the Bay Area for a to go order!

This is my favorite restaurant for lunch in the Ferry Street Bridge area. Service is prompt, friendly, and professional. And the food is always fresh and delicious. Portions are generous. Choices are interesting. So far I've tried several of their sandwiches, which are huge. Salads are delicious - I think they make their dressing themselves. And their Mac & Cheese is amazing. I always have leftovers to take home. This is the kind of restaurant I want to keep coming back to until I've tried everything on the menu. Then come back some more. Their cocktails look interesting, too.

Love the Halibut Cakes, spicy but good! Another favorite of kids and adults their Mac & Cheese! In the mood for beer and snack the pork Nachos are great and plenty for two. Our server Kate was friendly and checked back after food was delivered and again during meal- that's a plus.

Used to be a favorite, not so great anymore. Server tonight (Travis) really proved that. Out of drinks and waiting for sauce with full plates for over 10 minutes. I read MANY reviews stating Cafe 440 was delcious but had terrible service. I was a little concered about this since I went with a group of 7 other girls. Let me tell you I had one of the best experiences with seating a large group then most other restaurants. I do a girls night once a month. It seems as if MOST places struggle with seating large groups. Cafe 440 takes reservations and when I walked in 5 minutes early they aleady had our table waiting us. SWEET! Waitors/waitresses (both) came up to me and asked if I wanted to start with anything and soon returned with a pitcher of water and waters for the rest of the group. They were very attenttive. I was told by many that Cafe 440 has some of the best food in Eugene....and I agree! For an appetizer I split grit fritters with a friend. You get 6 good sized balls with a delicious dipping sauce. I reccommend those. I ordered the gouda & carmelized onion mac & cheese which were to die for and were even great heated up the next day. I had their famous bread pudding (which was easily enough for 3 people.) And because I was feeling hungry and read about the french fries I ordered a side of those ($3.50) and you get a huge plate of them!! YUM! Definitely enough to share and not necessary if ordering with an entree but delicious! The french Vanilla martini was delicious-they don't skimp on alcohol. Also had a sip of another drink... I want to say it was called American Jewel? Or something like that...that was great too. I definitely plan on going back! Can't wait to try something else.

Cafe 440 is definitely the place to go for EXCELLENT food! My husband and I just moved here from Arizona so this was quite the pleasant surprise! My husband, my father and I went to cafe 440 for dinner. I ordered the meatloaf sandwich with sweet potato fries, my husband ordered the rib eye and my dad ordered their special of the night, chicken Marsala over a large helping of mashed potatoes and asparagus. All of us were so incredibly pleased with our dishes we couldn't stop ranting and raving about them! The rib eye was chard to perfection! The chicken Marsala had out of this world flavor and my meatloaf sandwich was so incredibly good with the ciabatta bread and all the sauces they included. I knocked off one start just because they DO NOT accept AMEX so maybe plan ahead for funds if you need to. We will definitely be back!

Ive been here a few times now, no complaints. Service was friendly and prompt. The bbq pork mac and cheese is very good. Salmon cakes were good, but a little small. I had a ginger and vodka drink, they made with fresh ginger it was terrific. Chicken, pesto, provolone sandwich was very tasty. Teriyaki meatballs were good.

I am pleased that my husband and I finally decided to give cafe 440 a try. We went on a Wednesday night around 5:30/6:00 and there was plenty of seating. The ambiance is nice and the staff was friendly. We got a salad and some soup to start (along with a ginormous order of sweet potato fries) and for an entree we split the meatloaf. You can get either a large order of the fries or a small - we went with the large because my husband has the habit of ordering as though he may never eat again. Go for the small! Unless of course there are six of you. The clam chowder was surprisingly good featuring corn and roasted red pepper. The meatloaf was awesome as was the mashed potatoes and asparagus that came with it. The portion size was certainly enough to split. While we didn't try any this time around, the drink menu looks pretty interesting and I will definitely try one next time. So all in all, we ordered a dinner salad, cup of soup, large order of fries, husband had a beer, and the meatloaf and our bill came to $33.00. Not bad at all, we will definitely go back.

A 440 is a big block V-8 made by Chrysler from 1966 to 1978. A Cafe 440 is a place where you get big blocks of delicious food long after the big MoPar V-8 disappeared into the mists of time. If someone took a picture of a burger or sandwich made here, it would look normal. Just wait until you sit down and notice that it looks bigger than usual. Add to that the generous meat portions and plenty of veggies. All of a sudden a meal for one is good for two and the fries, what a pile of BIG fries these are! If you want to choke a horse, go here and eat. The horse will die happy with a full belly! Taste. Good? Try great! Burgers are made from Knee Deep Catttle Company's beef. That mean your burger's beef comes from the little hamlet of Lorane in the south Willamette Valley. It's organic and it's flavorful. The smoked turkey sandwich was mildly smoked to mouthwatering perfection. I would have no doubt that anything else served here is also going to be something to enjoy. Service. The folks who work here are quite cheerful, informative and hard working. They aren't selling $50 a plate meals but they give the kind of loving effort that would make you think they are doing something more than providing slightly under $10 meals that are big enough to feed two people., The owner leads by example and is right in the middle of the whole shebang. These people love what they are doing and want you to enjoy your meal so hopefully you will come back. Parking and finding Cafe 440. Look for Chipotle's. Go into the small shopping plaza that has Chipotle's and head for the back part. Hidden from the Coburg Road view is Cafe 440. For those who imbibe spirits, go to the state liquor store on Coburg and turn around to see Cafe 440. Parking is tough to find but these places are busy since they do have good food. It's worth fighting the crowd for! Cleanliness. We came in around 1:30 PM, after the lunch hour rush but Cafe 440 still had a bit over a dozen patrons there. The tables were cleaned off and the place looked like it was ready for the next surge of customers to come in the door. If Cafe 440 disappointed in the past, please do give them another try as it looks like they have their act together and then some these days!

Cafe 440 was recommended by the bartender at "The Cooler" over on Coburg Rd. and she was pretty enthusiastic about it so we walked on up. It's about a half mile North of the Red Lion Inn on the West side of the street. The place was very open, lots of windows, which was nice even though it was dark outside when we arrived. It definitely has the "cafe" feel with nothing really special to set it apart but it was very clean and well organized and our server was very attentive. The menu had just enough of everything without being too cumbersome to get through. My ideal menu is one page that includes everything from appetizers to desert. I ordered the grilled salmon over couscous and it was brought out hot, medium rare (which is how I like it) and the cuoscous was made perfectly. It was very nice meal, for next to nothing ($14). I'd go back there again without hesitation.

OK, one word awesome! I've never been for dinner but I can only imagine. Lunch is killer and the specials are always amazingly inventive. Sunday brunch was Amazing!!! I've been waiting since we moved into the neighborhood for a good breakfast place I 440 is definitely one. The potatoes where insanely good and the eggs benedict -perfect! Not only will I go back, but I can't wait.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Eugene. It looks deceiving from the outside tucked in the back of another of coburg roads ugly strip mall like shopping centers. Once inside though you can see that the owner, usually wondering around to make sure everyones food is perfect and everyones service is fast and courteous, has done a lot to make it look modern. The food here is great they have everything for dinner from juicy cornflake breaded fried chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables to Ninkasi braised short ribs. They also have great drinks including the smooth criminal, one of my favorites, but there a little steep at $7 bucks. The service is usually pretty speedy but the food can take a little while during lunch because it gets pretty packed in there.

Yes the food is delicious. Yes the staff is friendly and attentive. Blah blah blah... The BEST part about Cafe 440 is that they are losing money on the drinks. And I mean that in the very best way if you like delicous cocktails at an unbelievably reasonable price. They serve the Biggest and Best drinks for the absolute LOWEST price ANYWHERE in this town. It's insane. Usually a restaurant MAKES money in the bar. There is no way Cafe 440 is making money on alcohol. They are basically giving it away. A must try!

We went to visit our daughter and she picked Cafe 440 for Sunday brunch. It was excellent. Service was friendly and they seemed surprised that they were so busy - a nice surprise for a small business. I had the French toast, small order - I could only eat half. My husband had the biscuits and gravy, small order - he could only eat half. The son had an omelet - again, half. My daughter had the two egg breakfast with sausage loaf...yup...you guessed it - half. The food was all great, the portions were huge and my daughter got lots of leftovers.

When I 1st read Hannah B.'s post I thought she was probably an employee fixing the rating system. But then I actually went to Cafe 440. Seriously, I don't get the bad reviews. We ordered the Wasabi Mary (which was AMAZINGLY YUMMY), the Risotto balls (which were HUGE and very tasty), I had the Fritter Salad (Which was very nice. I can say that I felt the Baked Veggies were a little oily... but nothing to nasty, it actually made a nice light dressing for my salad. They definitely did not skimp me on the baked garlic either, which I LOVED LOVED LOVED!!!!!), and Matt had the Special Cannelloni, which was packed full of mushrooms and sausage and smothered in cheesy goodness!!! But back to the Fritter Salad- I didn't like the cheese. It's not that it's bad cheese but it's just too rustic for my taste. My BF was trying to tell me it was Feta, which I knew was not correct. So I asked our waiter. He was also unsure so he asked the cooks and came right back to answer our question. He was a very good waiter! Very nice, polite and attentive. All together it was a really nice dinner. We got sat very quickly but soon after we arrived there was a crowd @ the door waiting to get a table. I say GO and try it for yourself!

Cafe 440 is incredible. The food is consistently delicious (I consider it comfort food with a twist) and the servers are so wonderful (including the owner). I love going their for lunch and dinner during the week (favorites: sandwiches, cobb salad, salmon fish and chips with sweet potato fries) and for brunch on Sunday. While the Sunday brunch wait tends to be a long one, the amazing eggs benedict make it all worthwhile.

Went back for a business lunch and the same slightly undercooked black bean burger was perfectly cooked, and super delicious! Great service despite a very full restaurant.

So my BF and I went to dinner at Cafe 440 last week. Overall it was a "meh" experience. We were greeted right away and the server was pretty attentive but the food really was very mediocre. I got the Mac and Cheese and it was good; not great but good. I was excited to see that they had Hop Valley beer though!!! My bf got a cheeseburger with fries. He was not pleased with his cheeseburger. He mentioned that the beef had no flavor and there was nothing good about it. The clam chowder that we had before our meal didn't have much flavor. The sweet potato fries were good. I don't see those at restaurants much so that was nice. Overall though our experience was mediocre.

Love their lunch food and visit about once every-other week. My favorites are the french dip, pulled pork sandwich and their sweet potato fries are great! That said, their service has been lacking lately. Last week I was seated in the bar for lunch and sat for 10+ minutes before I finally waked out...I understand busy but there were employees who could have helped me doing nothing.

Before we arrived in Eugene I did a little research on the restaurants in the area. It was my turn to pick a restaurant and chose this place from the Yelp! reviews. The atmosphere of this place was perplexing. It gave off the vibe of a nicer, fine dining experience but the wait staff was dressed like they worked at a diner. I loved that the tables were spread out, though. It gave us lots of elbow room and a feeling of privacy. I ordered the salmon with risotto (Which was super expensive. Eeek! But I was in the mood for fish). When my salmon came it was undercooked. It was my fault because I hadn't specified how I wanted it cooked but it was really rare. I usually don't send food back but this time I had to. I just couldn't eat it. Up to this point, the restaurant had gotten maybe 3 stars. When I asked the waiter if he could have the kitchen cook my fish a little more, he was SUPER awesome about it. No attitude whatsoever. It was very refreshing seeing as most places aren't so accommodating. When the fish came back, the kitchen had been kind enough to re-plate my food and the salmon was much better cooked. This raised the star factor for me. Good service and good attitudes always get good ratings in my book.

  • Jean S.

I have to say that the sweet potato fries are so delicious, it's insane. Okay, so having said that, I can't imagine why my friends like this place. I had the fried chicken and it didn't have any flavor-WHATSOEVER. Ditto for the lumpy mashed potatoes. The service staff was very nice, but that could not make up for the fact that they didn't provide service to begin with. Really, it was a fifteen minute wait to order a drink and a twenty mintue wait to get the drink. Food came fairly quickly, but then the "service" staff disappeared again.

Todd, what the heck? My husband and I just attempted to have brunch at your restaurant which I have always loved. We stood at the door for 10 minutes unacknowledged before I approached someone and asked to be put on the list. We then waited outside for 40 minutes starting at empty tables before finally walking out. Thank you for having the best food and worst service in Eugene...

I flew into Eugene on my way to the Oregon Coast and Cafe 440 had been highly recommended as a 'must experience', so I did! Good choice for certain. First of all it was easy to find and we were warmly welcomed by the owners and staff. We received excellent service and the food and wine were perfect. Beautifully plated and delicious! The prosciutto wrapped grilled peaches, prawn ceviche, and Northwest salmon cakes paired with a crisp Sauv Blanc was a culinary dream come true! I'm especially impressed with with their history of charitable giving. Well done Cafe 440, I'll be back! Foodie in Boulder...

Bump to 3.5 stars. (I figure my 3 stars before and my 4 stars now will even it out :-D) I haven't been back to Eugene yet but the owners informed me that they have since resurfaced their floors so they're still shiny but not slick anymore. Kudos to them for effort and listening!

After waiting for an hour for my take-out dinner, I took my food home to enjoy it. The price of the burger and the soup was so high that I expected it to leap out of the box and do my homework for me. But it was just a regular old mediocre burger. I would have been better off going to Dickie Jo's or Hop Valley or Jack in the Box. Then I turned to the clam chowder. There is no poetic hyperbole strong enough, no humorous comparison concrete enough to describe how much this clam chowder sucked. I took one bite and then threw it away. I would never go back to this place.

Just visited Cafe' 440 for the first time. This is a wonderful addition to Eugene. Local owned with a great affordable menu that covers lots of bases. Tonight I had their rib-eye ($21.00), ordered it medium rare and it came out a little more done than that but still great. Nice potatoes, fresh beans and carrots. Appeared to have a french infuence to the cooking. DW ordered the sweet potatoe fries and a salad, the fries might be the best in town and salad was huge. I ordered a glass of local wine and it was priced and delivered fine ($8.50). No white linen table cloths here, lots of comfort food and a good variety. The owner came around and inquired how things were going. Both husband and wife owners lived in France for a few years and this new place is a labor of love and they have brought a little bit of their background here. Nice neighborhood place, close to the coburg road liquor store. I inquired and they only charge $5.00 corkage, though they have a reasonable wine list and a good wine by the glass program. Give it a try, it is the new star in Eugene during some trying times.

I'll be honest, my first trip to 440 didn't go so well...this was shortly after they opened. I took a hiatus and recently decided to go back. I was thrilled that this time around, the service, food and drinks were fantastic. This is now my favorite place to go when I'm craving a Cesar salad. Even better, the great menu and food is met with reasonably prices. Great for a date night that won't break the bank.

Certainly did not expect so much from a strip-mall-like lunch spot, but I was pleasantly proved so wrong. The service, excellent, complemented the food, simple but savory. Among the favorites, I'd order again the California chicken sandwich or the reuben. Looks like it is happening on live music evening so I'll be back to check it out. Or to pig out.

Had a delicious dinner here tonight. Particularly noteworthy was the Ahi Poke. Dynamite! Caesar salad was very good as was the lasagne special. Pork chop was quite tasty and living large. The accompanying blackeyed pea and kale ragout was excellent. Portion sizes were very generous and prices quite reasonable. Atmosphere was unassuming-a comfortable place for kids or dates and the service was very good.

The restaurant itself is pretty average, but the food was great. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich, which was delicious. There almost seemed to be too many people working there for how small the place was, and the decor and whatnot didn't really stand out, but the food was definitely of a good quality. I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

This review is specifically for Cafe 440's Sunday brunch. In short, it's awesome and it probably my new go-to breakfast spot. They have a special menu with many items not at all common around town like BBQ pork eggs benedict, rice and beans, shrimp and grits. I had a simple veggie omelet which was quite tasty with various cheeses, mushrooms, peppers, tomatoes etc. Others at my party got the sausage loaf which had an interesting texture and was very good; as were the biscuits and gravy. The scrambles were solid as were the red potato home fries, and while we didn't partake, the alcoholic "breakfast" drinks were tempting. Service was great and friendly. I highly recommend checking out 440's breakfast offerings which are Sundays only.

Hands down the best restaurant in the coburg area! The staff is friendly and fun and food hits the spot every time. Try the homemade jalapeño poppers and the Mac & Cheese with pulled pork, bomb*

Cafe 440 is overrated and overpriced. They served me a super dry burger that was tough and flavorless. The only positive thing on the menu is their sweet potato fries. I'll avoid it if I can.

Presentation is excellent, unfortunately the taste does not match! This is visit number 3 and I suspect the last. The food is average at best. There are too many other places that serve better food here in Eugene to waste time (it took nearly 1/2 hour to get our food) here.

I have been here several times. I usually just sit at the bar and order dinner and have a glass of wine or two. Food has always been. In particular I like the cob salad. Also enjoy sliders appetizer menu. Although it is listed as an appetizer it's really good enough for Full meal. Good Selection of wines by the glass. Service is always excellent.

Loved the sweet potato fries & spinach salad. The open atmosphere was very hip and the service was excellent! Hope one day they will decide to serve breakfast. The neighborhood could use a good breakfast joint!

Great sweet potato fries! The staff friendly and nice. I have been many times and have always had fast service. This is a business with owners who seem to be trying hard to do a great job. I think Cafe 440 has been a great addition to Eugene.

I have only eaten brunch here, so that's what this review is for. Me and my wife have eaten here several times, and we think it is absoluteley delicious! Food: We are big fans of their challah french toast and eggs benedict. The french toast is a good size, and comes with a maple syrup that has a ton of flavor. The eggs benedict are just very well made. The prices are pretty much the same as a pancake house or something, but the ingredients used are much better, and are prepared much better as well. They usually have an awesome special, and if we aren't ordering what I mentioned before, we get the special. Atmosphere: friendly, loud. The styling is nice and it feels upscale, though the prices are not bad at all. Service: Just great! Overall: You could go to some random chain restaurant for breakfast and pay the same amount for food, service, and atmosphere that is not nearly as good or unique. Great place!

Mac and Cheese was great!!! The Coburg location is not my favorite, but if the Mac and Cheese is right I will be there. The beer selection could be a little bigger but the food makes up for it. Very laid back atmosphere and the sweet potato fries topped it all off.

I have only been in for the Sunday brunch, so I can't speak to the lunch and dinner service, but I have always had an excellent brunch experience. I have been four times, and my food has always been great. Whoever I have gone with has also been pleased. My favorite menu item is the eggs benedict. The grits are also very tasty. My boyfriend's barbecue pork omelet was also a favorite. Also, they always have a tasty, unique special. I have always experienced good service. Coffee and water refills are frequent, waiters are pleasant, and your food comes not quickly, but certainly quickly enough. This is one of my new favorite breakfast spots. Too bad it's only on Sunday!

I have been to Cafe 440 over 10 times over the past several months and can't say enough about how much I love it. You don't have to take my word for it, either: Everyone I know (from college friends, to young families, to my grandparents, who have lived in Eugene for 50 years and lunch there regularly with friends) who has the tremendous privilege of going in RAVES about their whole experience--from the impeccable, friendly, down-to-earth yet professional staff to the huge portions of gorgeous, local, incredible food. The ambiance is beautiful (but bring a sweater) and gives options for a date night, big group, or just a salad and glass of wine or locally-distilled gin (LOVE the Organic Nation) or Northwest pinot alone at the intimate corner bar. In addition to the unquestionable fact that the reasonably-priced food rivals what my husband and I find in Washington, DC and NYC, Cafe 440 also makes us feel good about our support: they are 110% committed to local products and people, sustainability and recycling, and have this wonderful Northwest "twist" to everything that they do and serve (marionberries, wild Alaskan salmon, hazelnuts). They don't cut any corners on the quality of the ingredients, and it shows. It's absolutely worth paying an extra dollar or two for this (and the portion sizes invariably ensure that you have a great leftover lunch for tomorrow). It's hard to pick a favorite menu item, honestly--but the risotto balls are to die for (and I don't know how a reviewer could complain that they want four instead of three--they're huge and you'd need to let out your trousers if you could put more than that!!!). The hummus is fabulous, smooth, nuanced, fresh. The poppers are the real thing (not deep-friend or dumbed-down like a chain restaurant), with a surprising and wonderful juxtaposition of flavors and textures (sweet, HOT, crunchy). The goat cheese fritter salad is my favorite salad EVER (from anywhere). No joke. The soups are legendary (the Bier Stein's original beer cheddar started with chef Katherine, folks). It's pretty much a win-win to support a local business like this--they do great things with our patronage and we enjoy some of the best food available on the west coast. Period.

I owe Cafe 440 an apology. There is a bar here. It's tiny and behind a wall so you don't notice it when you walk in -- but it's there! Visited again recently and our service was better this time. I wouldn't call it "attentive," but it was adequate, especially given that the place was packed for lunch. Enjoyed the food again very much and the cocktails were yummy. $42 for two entree salads, small sweet potato fries, two cocktails plus tip.

Food was amazing, service was horrible! Waiter didn't seem to care if we were happy or not. Very non caring attitude. Lucky the food was truly amazing!

Meh. Just meh. The last time I was there, I got a ribeye with asparagus and potatos reminiscent of a microwave dinner. Just totally flavorless and rubbery. This is the restaurant of choice for upper middle-class patrons with more money than taste.

What a roller coaster of a dining experience! Went with my mom and loved the menu with all the good stuff on it. She went for the medallions while I tried the salmon fish n chips. Her plate was excellent (I sampled, of course) but my salmon was rather plain and so was the cole slaw. What started off as a somewhat impressive point of view turned when we got our cocktails. My "Jack and Arnie" was nothing but a pint glass of bourbon with some ice, and faint splashes of lemonade and iced tea. I asked our waiter if he could add some more lemonade, which he then offered to just make another one. He comes back, and the thing honestly tasted like bourbon and water with nothing else. I decided not to make a stink about it and just drink it, since by then I was thirsty and it was technically better than the first. But then he charged us for both drinks, both of which were piss poor and one of which I didn't even ask for! (mind you, i just wanted an extra splash of lemonade -- the waiter offered a new drink) That's a big pet peeve of mine: If I politely ask for something to change, don't charge me a whole new item to do so, get it right the first time because it ain't my fault! Decent food, kinda spendy, terrible service.

The food was great, although by lunch on a Monday they had already run out of an few things so their menu was narrowed down. The service was sub-par, they were busy, but not so busy as to excuse my friend and I being mostly ignored by our waiter except for him throwing the check at us as he ran by. For the prices, I'd expect more.

I'm often in Eugene on weekends visiting my dad and Cafe 440 has become a favorite place for our family to go for a great breakfast, lunch or dinner. The menu is interesting and a little eclectic, the atmosphere is friendly and pleasant, and the food is absolutely outstanding. Best pulled pork EVER.

I was unimpressed with Cafe 440 the first time I went there. However, pressed by friends because they hadn't tried it I've been back 1/2 a dozen times. Each time I have tried something new and I have to say; I like the place more and more each week. Their Mac & Cheese with shredded pork is the best in town. Their salmon with Chipotle Raspberry sauce is one of my favorites. It is loud, because the acoustics are not good, but the service is good and the food is consistently good. I don't think it is overpriced, compared to other places nearby.

The purchaser at 440 goes out of the way to provide locally produced foods for the menu. You will eat whatever is in season for this area and it will be presented in an exciting and delicious looking manner. They are a busy cafe but the owner has more than enough experience to properly staff it. This is the best, friendliest, most open restaurant in Eugene.
