Knowing the plates were only $2 each probably led to me lowering my expectations, but I found everything I ate fresh, tasty and high-quality. We went on a busy lunch hour, so everything was fresh. Sitting at the bar, you can see what's being placed on the belt and grab it before it's been there even 30 seconds, so it's hard to get fresher nigiri. Service was friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a visit.

I love sushi and I love the sushi belt concept. Talk about fast food. Want quality sushi but at fast food pace? This is it. Four of us sat down and were full in 10min! ( we were very hungry. Don't recommend wolfing sushi down so quickly.....) this is by far the best sushi deal around. Quality is excellent! And every plate is 2 bucks! It's hard not to pig out. I've visited pretty much all the sushi joints in town. You want top quality sushi and don't mind waiting or paying more? Go to Mame on Blair. You want quality sushi for cheap and want it now! Come here.

I really like this place. Everything on the belt is only $2, but the sushi is still very high quality and is always very fresh. I enjoy the variety because I'm always able to try something new. The atmosphere is light and fun, they usually play current pop. The wait staff is superb. I don't know how they found such great waitresses in such a small market. They're very on-the-ball, friendly, and provide outstanding service every time regardless of how busy it is. I would be hesitant to bring young children here, but that's just because a lot of the food may be too adventurous for them. I would recommend this place to anyone. It's terrific.

WARING!!!! If you are planning on turning off a date or spending all evening with stomach cramps and spewing all night this is the place for you. The food sits out on a belt that rotates and isn't kept cool, leaving the food to get warm, dry and full of harmful bacteria. When I asked how long chicken had been on the belt the guy was unsure and said about two hours. The albacore they brought me was dried up and rubbery. Our entire table was horrified. We quickly stopped eating and took a quick exit out. Only one of us is sick and one with a sour stomach. For your health, please do not eat here. Thank goodness for pizza or we would have starved.

The trick with this place is timing. If it's busy, your experience will be a lot better than if it's not. Obviously the more people there are the faster the belt is emptied and the fresher the food is. Don't go here when it's quiet and expect everything on the belt to be fresh. Personally I'd avoid this place if it's empty. Also, you can order things off their menu, and most of those things are still 2 bucks. So if you're looking for freshness they'll make it right in front of your face for the same price as the not so fresh things on the conveyor. As far as quality goes, you get what you pay for. This is not some 5 star sushi place. It's better than the pre-made garbage they have in grocery stores and I wouldn't pay more per plate than 2 bucks. If you want a burger you'll go get fast food, if you want cheap sushi, you'll probably end up here. Don't expect this place to offer you sushi miracles for 2 bucks.

Sushi belt places are there to give you cheap food, and plenty of it, without pretense or high expectations. They are the Japanese equivalent of the buffet table. I'm not much for buffets, mostly because the food is usually not very good. This place has attracted lots of attention since it opened earlier this year because of its across the board $2 plates, making it easy to figure out your bill and eat just as much or as little as you want. All of the drawbacks of the conveyor belt are here too, sorry to say. DLW and I are big fans of Japanese food in general, and we finally made it here for Friday dinner. The place was mostly full at 7 pm, and all of the bar seats were taken, so we took a table. The waitress said we could order from the menu or pull dishes off the belt at our convenience. We opted to position ourselves at a corner, out of other people's way, and inspect the belt fare. It was pretty much what we expected: rolls, nigiri, tempura, and a few dessert items. We took a selection of items back to the table and noshed them with a little sake. My advice: stick with the sushi, avoid fried items. We were disappointed with the gyoza fried tempura style, and the pork cutlet, both obviously past their prime. Squid nigiri was also a letdown, because I love squid, and this one was flavorless. Surf clam was better, and everything we had with salmon was pretty good - roll, nigiri and poke. Rice was a weak link, as it usually is at places like this. It lost its integrity in the sushi, and turned hard when spread on a plate under the tonkatsu. If you really want sushi at lunch and don't have a lot of time, maybe this makes sense. As a dinner option, I just don't see it.

Fresh, delicious and affordable sushi! The servers are on point, my water keeps getting refilled and I swear the woman is a ninja because I haven't seen her! The fried Vegas rolls are PHENOMENAL! Come here. Make your tummy happy!!

On my most recent lunch visit, the selection was fresh and widely varied- in addition to having baked mussels, calamari, freshly prepared chicken katsu, tuna poke, and tako nigiri, I also had BROILED SALMON COLLAR. TWO OF THEM. So many noms. It would appear that the mid-afternoon lull is a perfect time to pop into Sushi 541. The chefs are relaxed, the belt is full, and service is super attentive.

Worst sushi I have ever had. Ever. And I've eaten at quite a few sushi restaurants. This is the worst by FAR. There was one very nice server. And I felt sorry for her having to work with such grouchy people. I swear one of the people behind the counter glared at me. When we got up to ask for our check (we had to leave because the food made me sick) the man behind the counter stared us down. I think he thought we might be ditching out or something. And the sushi was disgusting. Absolutely horrible.

Great sushi and nice workers! What more can I ask for!!! Easy to find and all the plates have great portions.

This is the best sushi place in Eugene for the price! This place has the best prices and even though it is greatly centered at the college students it is absolutely amazing. I love the Vegas roll and the Oregon roll. The chefs will make you whatever you want and are very friendly! I have never had a bad experience here in my 5+ times coming here! Definitely worth a try!

  • Aimee B.

Bad service can ruin a first impression, mopped floors before closing time can feel unwelcome, cold tempura is not good, and fish that doesn't look fresh or at the right temperature, unappetizing and unsafe. Sloppy plates was also another aspect i didn't like.. What i did appreciate was the wide variety of dishes and a full bar I'll check it out again in a year if they improve their business...maybe.

I was so excited to learn that another sushi bar was opening downtown, but good lord is this place awful. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday afternoon with a serious sushi craving. The first thing I noticed was that the tables were all filthy, and there were flies everywhere. We sat at the bar and took one plate of Sake Salmon Nigiri and one plate of what I believe was supposed to be a Rainbow Roll. The Nigiri was fine, but it tasted like it had been sitting out for awhile and had lost its freshness. The Rainbow Roll was even worse--we didn't even finish it. With sushi, you really do get what you pay for. Ironically, the cashier tried to charge us $5 more than our actual bill. Sushi Station has an amazing revolving bar for its Happy Hour prices--I'm not a huge Sushi Station fan, but I'd recommend them over this place anyday.

I'll start off by pre-facing the fact I have been sitting on the toilet for the last 20 minutes as I write this review. All plates on the belt are 2 dollars, namsayin? Mostly bar seating with 3 booths attached to the belt and tables surrounding the exterior. Waiters are awesome, always refilling drinks and asking if you would like any specific rolls made for you. Sushi chefs always seem to be your typical Hispanic sushi experts. Wasabi from powder and light/regular soy sauce at the bars/tables. First time I went I thought "kick ass, a new sushi belt in town that caters to my shitty caucasian palate." My expectations lived up after gorging on California and tempura rolls. Nom nom! Second visit I thought, must have been some good shit so let's give it a real whirl. I had some poke, surf clam, rolls with raw salmon and of course the goddess of sushi -- tempura fried california goodness. Avocado rolls that passed by this visit were nearly all brown. Could you do me a 75% discount and I'll eat all of that browncado for you? That's where I'm contemplating on my return. On one hand this stuff is like the nectar of the gods and cheap. Then on the other hand I sit on my porcelain throne for a good while yelping with the best of them for only 2 dollas' ya'll.

Do not be fooled by rave reviews it's a sushi belt, what do you expect "fresh?" This is the kind of sushi that is dyed and comes out of a mold. It's not fresh, it's edible. But at $2 a plate what do you expect? I go here when I want service with smile, cheap sushi, and a small bill.

  • Donna B.

I really enjoyed my experience here. We came the day before a holiday, and it wasn't too busy. I was a little concerned with the freshness of the food, but overall, everything I tried was really good. I wished there was a little more selection on the belt, but other than that, it was a good experience. The staff that night seemed to be preoccupied, as they were not that busy, and we has to wait a bit to get someone's attention.

    (4)
  • Michelle N.

This place is cute. It reminds me of Sushi Land in Portland. A cheap, shitty sushi place that satisfies my random sushi cravings. It's great! The salmon is good and tastes fresh enough, there's a good variety of choices and I'm pretty content with everything on the belt. I like going here because they'll give you a good portion of tuna poke and/or salmon poke for 2$. I'm down for that, it's cheap, taste fine, and I'm happy. The staff are polite enough and they don't give me trouble. So, yeah. I'll be coming back here, regardless of the shitty cheap sushi. It's good enough for me.

  • Andrew D.

Not a fan of giving two star reviews.. But sushi 541 was terrible. The old adage "you get what you pay for" definitely applies here. The slices of fish were super thin, and the seared tuna.. tasted.. Old. Yikes. I never want to equate old and raw fish together, ever. Needless to say my friends and I were left disappointed. I understand that the place is new so hopefully they will work out all of their kinks soon.

BARF. Literally vomitous. I ate at this new discount sushi place on last Friday evening and have been miserable with food poisoning ever since. I went in this evening, still ailing, and asked the management if I could simply have my money back and was very rudely refused on the basis of it being unprovable, even when I showed my receipt and reminded him that I felt fine until just after finishing my meal. I was also told, incorrectly, that I "must be new to fish." I like to think that good service involves trusting a customer, and not intimating bluntly that I would (waste my time trying to) scam a restaurant for $16. As for the food itself, the fish portions were predictably small for the price, were of discernibly low quality, and were presented rather unaesthetically (even the specialty rolls). You could tell easily that the miso soup was prepared from powder stock and not made in-house. I have tried my best with this review to remain impartial, and probably have not fully succeeded - I'm human. Please spare yourself the bad deal and potential gastrointestinal agony, and go somewhere better - like I should have.

  • Kelsey W.

You get what you pay for. $2 is fair. It's seemed like everything had been sitting out a little long. I'd be ok with a wait for something made fresh.

    (3)
  • Cee D.

You get exactly what you pay for. At $2 a plate, you shouldn't expect carefully sourced, fresh fish. So, if you set expectations to "Reasonable" as opposed to "Eugenian", you will probably leave pleased. It's nice that you can order anything from the menu you don't see on the conveyor. I did so with two dishes which showed up very quickly in spite ofa relatively full house. Good to have a place downtown selling sushi at such low prices.

  • Nadine B.

Good cheap sushi. Nice owners! Nice to have another place in town to get reasonable food. Good nigiri as well as rolls. (Sometimes these places only serve rolls so we were pleasantly surprised). $2 per plate!

Had a great night here at 541, the place was lively and attentive. Staff was great, helpful and friendly. Food was really good, I cant say it was the best sushi I have had but it was very tasty and inexpensive. Its the perfect place for the family and a night out on the town. The restaurant was busy but still remained clean and cool. The food was fresh and tempting. I have no clue what P.J. the previous poster is saying, I spoke with the chef and watched him make the rolls right in front of me with FRESH fish none was frozen or prepackaged. No sushi bot used and all condiments where there, so no clue to what that was about. I would have to say this, the place is busy so be prepared to wait or go on a down time, like not during dinner hours... As mentioned, all plates are $2 dollars except for the Salmon which was $4 and well worth it. I think I found a new chill sushi place to call home! Good job 541 Sushi!

So I've walked by this place twice and decided to stop in for lunch today. I was not dissapointed, fish was fresh and the fancier rolls were very nice and flavorfull. The calimari was cold but mentioned that to my server and wasn't charged. I was quite amused at the moon pie on the belt..

  • P. J.

Overall, not so impressed. This is strictly a conveyor sushi place. Fish/shellfish are purchased pre-portioned and frozen. Sushi rice is formed with a sushi-bot. It was a bit hard and tasted too sweet, perhaps not enough rice vinegar was used. No wasabi in any of the sushi, although it's available on the counter (reconstituted from powder). No tuna was available when I went there on a Saturday evening. They do most of their business in rolls using surimi (crab-flavored fish cake), negi-toro (minced tuna mixed with fat), and farmed salmon. We sat at the counter. The white fluorescent lighting there was unattractive. The salmon-egg sushi plate is $4.00 rather than the '$2.00 for all plates' advertised in the window. Considering the quality of sushi served, $2.00 per plate is hardly a deal. Expect 8-10 plates per person. The staff were pleasant, and the service was fine. Management is Korean, not Japanese.

Great Sushi, Awesome Prices, and really friendly staff. They do get a little inattentive when it gets busy, but totally worth dealing with for the amazing sushi.

  • Rachel J.

I love the instant gratification of 541 sushi! It's great to see what's delicious and get to eat it immediately! This definitely isn't fancy sushi, but for $2 a plate, it's tasty and fast! I love the Vegas rolls and other deep fried rolls. So good!

    (4)
  • Sara B.

Food is plentiful and cheap. Staff was accommodating and friendly. Quality of the fish was OK, but great for the price. 2 pieces of nigiri for 2 dollars can't be beat!

  • Erik L.

If anything happens to me I'll make sure to edit this review. As it stands, this was a solid sushi experience. The space used to hold a local restaurant legacy, so the location has a lot to live up to. The conveyer belt and $2 price tag/plate (excluding udon and salmon roe) ensure you get full fast. Wait staff are available to refill drinks and take orders for specific sushi if it isn't coming around. Requests came out quick. The sushi quality and portion size (usually 2 pieces) isn't exemplary, but definitely still a deal for the couple bucks a serving. We were in and out 20 minutes, beaming at our tall stack of plates.

Good sushi for a great price. I love the variety. The sushi is good. And all for $2 a plate. Just discovered this place and already been there twice

Horrible horrible service!!! The waitress refused to sit is in the spot we wanted because it may get busy and immediately after sat a smaller group in that same spot! When I confronted her about it she mumbled an apology and said she thought it would get busy! She was rude and the food was not good!!!

    (1)
  • M W.

I Went with my daughter a few days ago. Sushi is just ok. The waitress was rude. Had to ask for a fork multiple times for my lil one. Then my lil one had to use the restroom and needed my help. When we came out our table was taken by new customers. We hadn't even paid yet. We did end up paying for the little bit we ate. We got a sorry but that's it. Not good business in my opinion.

  • Jean Y.

$2 plate of any sushi?! I thought it would be a good deal. BUT it was just sad. The fish slices were incredibly thin! It's more rice than fish! The people working there are quite stern and they don't know how to be friendly. Everyone seems like they have no experience! One of the sushi chefs rolled a huge ball of rice and chucked it into where the rice is stored to make the sushi and he was scolded really loudly in front of the customers. It just made the environment awkward. To be honest there are cheaper sushi restaurants that offer more for the price of $2. I wish this place was better!

  • Robyn K.

Never had conveyor belt sushi before.... but if this is any indication, I'll stick with fresh made to order! It's cheap - but lacking flavor. No spicy options. And the whole time, I was wondering if there's a system to track how long a plate has been on the belt! Could something be placed at 11:00 am and still be floating around at 7:00 pm? That concerns me.... I'll stick with my favorite down the street!

    (2)
  • Oneo V.

Went in there with low expectations but for sushi on a conveyor belt it was pretty good. It hit the spot and the sushi chef was super nice. I will be going there again!

Best revolving sushi bar in Eugene!! Fresh, delicious and incredible staff!!! Will be back for more!!!

  • Jackson L.

Decent belt sushi. The rice was a bit hard?? Service was decent. They were out of Tuna? All dishes were $2. They said they would make anything on the menu if you wanted it which was nice.

  • Manda S.

$2 plates are a good deal. I came here a week after they opened and again today. If the prices were higher my star rating would be a 3 for portion size & quality. However, $2 plates? Can't beat that! This isn't a place for sushi snobs, but for the price it's perfect.

    (4)
  • Jo R.

First time I went in was right after opening and it wasn't too good but the second time they stepped up their game! I am excited to go again.

Great place to get an inexpensive and fast meal. There is a train in the middle- and just about everything that is on the menu makes its way around that. And if it's not on the train yet, they'll add it. each plate is $2, regardless of plate color. Easy to go in and get something fast. You aren't able to order super complex fancy rolls- but that's not really the kind of place this is. ;) Staff and owners were very nice, helpful, and attentive.

Ok lets get into this. I have been testing out every single sushi place in the greater Eugene area I can find. It seems like sushi restaurants have been popping up in this city like a smallpox epidemic. I believe its because of the growing amount of international students (china) attending the UO. This place is obviously conveyor belt type geared towards those who are kind of new to sushi. The menu is pretty much all sushi. No bento or anything extra-curricular like that. This place just opened, and the wait staff was obviously drafted straight from the University. The wait staff seemed like it was everyone's first day on the job. Not spectacular. The sushi was actually ok once we got it. The rice was good and so was the fish. Decent for $2 plates and not really any room to complain. Now, the layout of the restaurant is flawed. These guys are obviously trying to capitalize on the happy hour sushi crowd you see flooding sushi island for the people who don't want to drive down W 11th. If you are unlucky enough to get a table like us, it will take a few minutes to order and get your sushi. One waitress said it was ok for us to just go up and take off the belt if we wanted it earlier. Im not a restaurant designer expert person but if I owned a sushi place I wouldn't necessary want people sitting at table bum-rushing the belt line over people sitting at the bar. Its A-ok. I might go back if I can sit at the bar, I don't know yet.

I was looking for a specific Thai restaurant & when I arrived it was closed for remodeling. As I was walking to my car I looked over and saw 541 Sushi Bar. The conveyer system and obviously the great pricing, intrigued me to stop in. The sushi was fresh and delicious (I didn't get sick afterwards)!! If you're in the area, Check It Out!

  • Brian L.

Sushi 541 gets the name of "You get what you pay for", and to some extent, it is what you pay for. If you are from Portland, this place will remind you of Sushi Land (not the sushi island that just opened up here as well) When your stomach is hungry and a heavy meal is not on your mind, this place is a good spot to hop in and quickly fill your stomach. Realistically, this place is a 3.5 in terms of a non-contextual review. Their fish seems decent enough, their rolls could be a bit better, some of them are not rolled tightly or a bit off. Their belt has a variety that seems to serve the average sushi eater, California rolls and something fried. I do wish that they placed a bit more variety on the belt, waited to see what was popular, and refrained from having too many items rotating for extended periods of time. But their staff is helpful and nice, they come by to do everything that a front of staff should be doing, their sushi "chefs" are nice and approachable and will be happy to make you anything you want that isn't currently rotating on the menu. I do wish they had a better bar, well, A BAR. They do lack this, and being in downtown this almost seems like a must for a place like this. But this technically isn't the nature of the establishment, so it is excusable. Their $2 sushi plates could be a permanent thing, maybe turn into a happy hour thing, but it most likely will go away soon. The real question is, what will their pricing structure be like? Will they still be aiming for this market segment? Will their food still be the same? But truth be told, I'll make more visits here as it is simple, easy, and good.

Fun,good food. Should let two people share a booth, instead of saving all booths for three or more. May or may not be back.

This place was pretty cool. Not much of a fan of sushi belts because, God; who knows how long that stuff has been on the belt. But the allure of $2 plates was too much to resist for me and my company of hungry gents (and lady) So we stopped in and were greeted and sat quickly. The food was good and I enjoyed a vast majority of the 12 plates I had. Yes 12, at first I wasnt planning on having that many but our waitress told us about groups eating an enormous amount so my friends decided to go through a "soft opening" if you will and see what that would be like. All in all 5 of us put down about 64 plates. No one said they didn't like anything and the service was friendly and attentive. One of the cooks even came over and offered to make me fresh rolls of anything on the menu. It's probably because I am Asian (that's what I tell myself anyways) or that I had just finished my 11th plate. Anyways I dont know if I will return, but I would recommend it to people looking for a quick sushi fix. Def worth a try IMO.

Great service asking if I want something off the menu instead of the bar. Plus, all plates are only 2 dollars

  • Ryan H.

Ive been here twice the first time I thought it was pretty good, it was lunch hour and a friend visiting from out of town wanted an inexpensive sushi lunch. We left full and completely satisfied for the price. The second time, not so pleasant, The fish smelled "off" as in if I ate it I would definitely be hugging the toilet the next day. I pulled two different plates off the conveyer belt gave them a wiff and pushed them to the side. Maybe the first time I was distracted by my friends company to notice the food, or maybe it was because the second time was dinner hour, idk. Its cheap but probs not worth the liquid rockets you are most likely to squeeze out.

  • Helen H.

The conveyor belt concept was pretty neat. I like how the plates are small bites, allowing you to try different types of sushi without a huge bill. The folks here are really nice and there is a chef that makes the sushi in front of you. I was craving for a small snack and this place easily took care of that.

  • Amy K.

Good conveyor belt sushi! Everything tasted really fresh, and the service was super friendly. It's a great value with everything at $2 per plate, though I wonder if they will change that once they're more established.

  • Alicia B.

541 sushi has the sushi conveyer belt like sushi island but is ten times better! Wonderful, friendly staff, and amazing sushi for only $2 all day long. Special orders are started as soon as the cooks receive them, so no more long waits when indulging in sushi!! A larger and fresher selection than sushi island as well. A must try. This will be my new sushi location!

  • Dallice D.

What a fun place. There was a lot of variety and the staff could not have been friendlier. I do not know a lot about sushi so I am always hesitant to go out to eat at sushi places but here it does not matter. You just grab what looks good right off the belt. Everything is made right in front of you. If you don't see what you want just ask and they will get it. We had a blast and will definitely return.

Really good food. Out of albacore tuna.. But other than that, my experience was great. Friendly staff as well

We've been here a few times and hadn't really had a terrible time until today. Last time, the food wasn't great. It's not kept cool, and sushi should be kept somewhat cool instead of coming around the train on steaming plates. Today though, we came in a larger group. 8 of us. 2 sets of parents and 5 kids, altogether. Two kids from the other family sat with us and their parents and baby sat at a table across from us. They were asked to move to a table where they couldn't see their own children and couldn't talk to any of us because the table they were at, where they were originally seated by the hostess, was for "waiting customers." Even after telling the server they were with us and we hd their kids, they still had to move. Then, the server never once came to our table with drinks or to ask if we'd like anything else, and to top it all off, my 8 year old now has food poisoning! Don't go here!!

The 1 star is for the conveyor belt. The sushi is ok and the service is sad, poor and pathetic. 1st time here and last.

  • Jan S.

I went out to this place last week! I wasn't sure what to expect and was pleasantly surprised. The seafood was very fresh! The prices were excellent. We sat at a booth near the conveyor belt. Once in a while the chef would put something out and we would ask him what it was. They were very friendly. We loved the Vegas Rolls! At $2 a plate, it was a great and fresh dinner for not much money.
