Yeah, I know: a diner on Highway 97, on the road halfway between Klamath Falls and ... no idea where. But we drove into Chemult midday feeling very hungry and saw the sign that said "Best Food on Hwy. 97." Even if they were wrong -- and we're in no position to know for sure -- out stop was a good decision. It's a family operation on the side of the busy road, and everything is cooked to order. The French fries, a throwaway item most places, were hand cut and cooked hot and fresh, in a word, crunchy delicious. So was the club sandwich with thick slices of ham and hot, just-cooked thick bacon slices. Big-city folks anywhere would enjoy this! The three-meat chili was terrific, piping hot and spicy with sliced onions and cheese on top. We didn't order sweet rolls, but we heard someone else in the diner say they were the best anywhere around. That's all. We didn't stay long and we didn't try other menu items. The experience was a good one -- friendly service, too -- and we'd call this absolutely the best part of our trip on Highway 97 for sure.

DO NOT eat there! This is the worst food I have EVER eaten at a "Restaurant". Not clean, the fish and chips were so hard and dried out the frozen fake ones in the grocery store are way better. My husband got cream of broccoli soup that was yellow water with little green flakes floating in it. It was nauseating to look at much less eat. I would not give it a 1 star if that was an option.
Just because you are hungry and this is the first restaurant you've seen for the past 50 miles, spend the extra 5 cents in gas and eat someplace else. Even a 7-11 microwave burrito would be considered 5 star as compared to the open faced turkey sandwich which in reality is a large bowl of tepid gravy with Wonder Bread submerged and no real evidence of turkey. On the decor side you may admire the two 1970's bi-planes made from Busch beer cans suspended from the ceiling by 5 lb fishing line.
We stopped here after a drive to Crater Lake. This restaurant was one of two nearby. While the restaurant has a home town atmosphere, the food was not that great. The entire family ate here and all agreed that it was not not good. I would agree with the previous reviewer - spend the gas money and drive elsewhere.
