My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary at the end of December. We live in northern California and try to make it to Bandon every year or two, although we usually stay at a place on Beach Loop drive. This time, because the weather was in no way conducive to walking on the beach--high waves and wind--we opted for a place in town. For only $65, we stayed in Room 2--a second-floor room with queen bed, refrigerator, and an amazing view of the bay. The room was small (others are larger), but it was clean, warm, and extremely convenient. The bed was comfortable, the shower was hot with good water pressure, and the high ceilings and large skylight made the room seem larger than it was. It was great to stay right in the heart of town, and we may return here in the future.

I had called there to try and stay so our family could check out the town before making a decision about possibly moving to the area. The woman owner??? was so rude as though I was a waste of her time. Not helpful in answering questions at all. Needless to say we did not stay and thank goodness because after we stayed for a lengthy vacation in Bandon we heard more indepth stories about the lack of attention this place gets, musty smells, bad internet etc. Glad we did not waste the money at this high priced establishment and made other arrangements.

We stayed here in mid-June 2010 in a loft room facing the bay. the views were wonderful. the upstairs had a queen bed and plenty of room for suitcases. Downstairs was the living area including a comfortable couch and large flat screen TV with cable (great for watching world cup soccer). there was a small fridge and coffee/tea makers which was nice. the location is in the heart of downtown Bandon so everything was within walking distance. Once we parked our car, it stayed parked for two days. The person who checked us in was friendly and helpful. The next day we saw him around town and he stopped to chat with us. In general Bandon is very friendly. on our second and final day there we felt like regulars and were saying "hi" to many people. The Hostel no longer is available, only rooms.

HOSTEL - Sea Star - U (unaffiliated) (not part of Hostelling Intl.) I'm a frequent hosteler, and The Sea Star Hostel was one of my Oregon coastal favorites. My favorite room had a loft spot to sleep, and was private with a great view of the harbor. Kitchen and lounge areas were clean and I met some nice hostelers too. If you enjoy hosteling, this is a good one to visit. They also rent full guesthouse rooms, separately, with views, but I have only stayed at the hostel. Hosteling is very different from hotelling, and it is NOT for everyone, so I would rate this 3 or 4 stars for a hostel, but if you compare it to a regular hotel, i have no idea. Hostels are not camping, not bed and breakfasts, but nor are they hotels or motels, so I have no idea really how to rate them, except hostel to hostel. Hosteling is affordable, social and educational. Someday I'd love to own a hostel.

My husband and I were traveling up the 101 scoping out areas that we would like to live in. On this particular day, we had just left Gold Beach and were planning on stopping for the night in Coos Bay, BUT then Bandon happened. I fell in love with this quaint little town immediately. We decided to spend the night here so that we could explore it more and we happened upon the Sea Star. I called and the lady who answered suggested I stop in to see some rooms. A very nice couple manage the place and the husband showed us the room on the Marina side with a queen bed and a living room. The price was exceptional so we took it. Very clean room with lots of thought to details. Would definitely stay here again.

Nice folks but sort of a mixed bag. -musty with urine odor -funky loft with queen bed and low ceiling -poor sound insulation from street +refunded our second night charges when we decided to move to another hotel after our first night. The lady working the desk was oddly rude. We asked to cancel our second night because we were bothered by a smell and we were told at length how the unit didn't smell and when she called me later to confirm the refund, she told me how they were only refunding the second night because they rented the unit and the new guest did not smell anything funny. All I could do was laugh uncomfortably.

We stayed in room 2, which was quite small, but cute and cozy. Great view, nice balcony with good furniture. The internet was iffy at best. It would come and go, and the manager had to reset it several times. Loved the coffee place next door, and it was nice to be able to walk to so many shops and restaurants. Parking is either on the street or in a lot next door. When the occupants of the room downstairs turn on the bathroom fan (which is connected to the light) it sets up a very annoyingly loud noise in the upstairs room.

My fiance and I stayed in Room 4 in mid July for a very reasonable price, considering the room and location. Perfect location, as the Sea Star is in close proximity to everything downtown; the room was quiet, intimate, very clean, with a romantic beachy ambiance (seemed recently remodeled). The bed was extremely comfortable and free Wi-Fi was a bonus. There is a small, beautifully designed courtyard and beyond it is the back entrance to an amazing wine bar / restaurant (Alloro's). The owners (Bill and Pat) were extremely friendly and helpful. We look forward to visiting again!

A nice little place in a great area. It is clean and comfortable. Slight musty smell, but not enough to be a problem. The bed was comfortable. Everything worked... ... except the wifi!! If you need internet, DO NOT stay here!! Their web site advertizes "high speed internet". They don't have that. Their internet connection stops multiple times a day and the manager has to turn off the equipment for 5 minutes. Even when it is working, the wifi strength to the rooms is marginal. Even sitting in the patio next to the wifi when it did have connection, I got a very slow 120kbits/sec 12 k bytes/sec). Hardly "high speed internet"!

Stayed one night on my way to somewhere else and this place was a great find! Stayed in "Loft #1" and there is almost nothing to pick nits about. The room was well-stocked with quality coffee, tea, shampoo and soap plus extra blankets, pillows and soft, absorbant towels. Hot water was hot (think about it... how many small places have you stayed where it's not?) Nice furnishings and decor, even a comfy couch and sensational front deck seating! Nice view and I agree with a previous reviewer that the front garden is beautiful and worth lingering over. If I were to pick nits...well, no ice in the room and a little musty, but when everything else (including the price) is so great, let it slide.

The location was great. Staff was friendly when we checked in. However, the room we had (3B) really needs some love. It smelled really stale of smoke and/or mildew or something when we got there. The room itself is pretty dank really... dim lighting, combined with the smell made it pretty unappealing.
