Terrible service, obviously a very poorly run restaurant. We came in on Friday night. We waited a full five minutes before someone even approached us. The woman finally came up and said in a very annoyed voice that they were full. We noticed there was room at the sushi bar and asked if we could sit there. She shrugged and said, "Go ahead." (Should have been a warning sign). Sat for 10 mins. before a bus boy brought water. Finally caught sushi chefs eye after another 10 mins. and ordered some sushi rolls. However, we were never approached about ordering drinks or something from the kitchen. I finally got up and walked into the bar to order some tea. All around us was chaos, the sushi chef was clearing away dishes, people were trying to pay and no one was delivering checks. Finally sushi chef for our ticket- another 10 minutes before we got it. Went to the front to pay, and no one approached us for almost 10 mins. Now I should have left, but both my husband and I have worked in restaurants and that didn't feel right. finally dug out enough cash to pay the bill (no tip whatsoever- they clearly didn't deserve it). Very chaotic, very poorly run, uncomfortable atmosphere, acted like they could care less about the customers. Awful service- complete contrast to other Astoria restaurants. They seemed new, but seriously no excuse. really terrible I think my 13 year old son and friends could do better. Stay away!

I went in for a late lunch and was pleasantly surprised with a Bento box containing tuna and tempura. Very attentive friendly service and excellent value ($10.95 before tip).

I agree terrible terrible service. No one approached the waiting guests. But knowing how sushi restaurants operate, we just went straight to the sushi bar and sat down (which I would definitely recommend doing if it's busy). Servers did look very inexperienced and flustered. They seemed to be running around confused but not accomplishing anything. Sushi chefs were slammed with orders but very nice and got us our food right away! (don't be afraid to be a little assertive, they are very nice and will listen). The food was actually pretty good despite my initial thoughts of the restaurant. Bar service was terrible. The drinks are not worth the price ( I had to return my Tokyo Tea due to lack of alcohol and bad taste) Other than that, my husband and I enjoyed talking to the sushi chefs and the good rolls we ate. Not too shabby for a small town sushi restaurant. We will definitely be coming back.

The sushi was "just" okay and service was surprisingly, excessively slow when we went despite the place being empty. Ordered the children's meal with the chicken nuggets for my young child and they were over-fried (to the point of dry meat and nearly burnt breading). Wait staff did not return until they wanted us to leave and gave us the bill. As I mentioned, service was very slow. Took about ten minutes for the wait staff to even come and take our drink orders and provide menus. We had to go find and get our own high chair. The tempura we ordered was cold by the time it made it to our table, but the waitstaff did their magical disappearing act so we had no one to complain to. I would love to support a local business and give them a better review, but the mediocre food and the bad service says it all for me.

The sushi was just ok. For the price you'd expect larger portions and greater variety. All together it was uninspiring and bland, which is a bummer because there is so much fresh seafood here in Astoria All in all, I won't be coming back and unless you're dying for sushi, there are plenty of better restaurants where your money will go further and your taste buds won't be so mad at you.

A-ok. Granted. Only have had one take out experience, but was it anything special? No. Everyone says Nevada AYCE is cheap sushi, well the fish seemed the same to me. The rolls seem to have more variety in Nevada too. Jayne and Alan Roll: A crunchy roll is a tempera shrimp roll to me. I thought it meant crunchies on the top, the spicy tuna was different. Didn't even know it was fish. It was a paste. I thought it was the mustard sauce until I saw the side of the mustard sauce. Tokyo Roll: Good. And fresh. My cousin is correct in saying anything you get at the sushi restaurants around here is the same or better at Fred Meyer. Odd. Remember, nothing has been bad, but nothing amazing either. It would probably help to have a sit down experience, which I haven't done yet in this area, everything has been to-go.

It was a disappointment. Very little variety and poorly executed sushi. I wouldn't recommend it and I won't be coming back.

If you like sushi and you're in a small town places like Tora Sushi are the best to eat at and hard to come by, the sushi is so good here! If you're anything like me and like your sushi spicy then get the Tiger roll, omg it was so spicy and good! Service s great and they seemed to be open later than the other restaurants so that made it an even better choice.

Pretty good sushi in a sweet little town has only one sushi joint. Quite tasty and fairly reasonable. That said, the size of the cocktail and wine pours is very miserly. They might as well be served in a thimble. Step up your game, Tora Sushi.

The sushi chef, Carlos, was able to make a roll I'm used to by description alone. The fish was excellent, and the edemame was perfectly salty. Having been to a couple other places nearby, I can tell you Tora is now my preferred sushi location on the North Coast.

This place is disappointing, considering it's fish season and summer. I used to have sushi, 4 times a week in my former town. And every where I traveled. No Japanese traditions here. They even place club music which is odd. Portions are the smallest and thinnest I've ever seen. the Rainbow roll was barely there...typically at other sushi places It takes 3 bites to eat a piece. Fish is fresh, but prices are too high to be skimpy on the fish! All rolls are filled with fake crab. Another disappointment. If you are going to charge 10, or 12.00 for a roll, give me real crab, please. Whatever. Beers are 7.50 a bottle...again, inflated. Great location. The sushi chefs are not friendly at all and the servers add no value other than bring your drink and set it down. Most places at least offer to pour your beer. That's the Japanese way... I guess I have to drive to Portland for sushi, now!! gave it 3 chances and not going back! Try other places in town, where u get value and service with a smile!

We walked in a few minutes to 1pm...no one came, so we walked out.

I was surprised at the quality of the sushi here. I mainly get just plain sushi (nigiri) as opposed to rolls, so I can't comment on those, but I found the salmon, tuna, mackerel, and eel to be tender and tasty. I pictured it being hauled out of the ocean that day. The service was great, too. Our waitress was attentive, personable, and fast. I left thinking how funny it is that sometimes you have to leave Portland to be reminded that there are skilled waitresses and waiters out there who actually give a hoot about your experience (as opposed to nursing their hangovers and making pouty-faces when imposed on for the most rudimentary of services). Keep it up Tora. I will most definitely stop in next time I visit Astoria.

Excellent sushi and service and pretty cheap. I eat sushi 1-2 times a week and I am pretty picky. I had the Firehouse roll and the spicy tuna. The Firehouse was the best roll I have had in a long, long time. There was only one server there, but she hustled and did a great job. We will definitely be going back again and again.

We Went there late in the evening service was still great and the food was amazing. The restaurant and lounge were both very cozy. I highly recommend the spider roll and the miso soup. The only complaint is that the edamame was cold and not warm. Overall a great experience and I would definitely go back.

Tora is the go-to sushi place here on the North Oregon Coast. I've never had a bad experience there, so I cannot speak for "better sushi" places, but am very satisfied with the food there!

A pretty good sushi place, but not quite perfect. The sushi that I did eat was fresh and delicious, and yes, they have tamari sauce for us gluten free people! The biggest disappointment for me was that they use imitation crab meat instead of the real thing, and it is in nearly every single roll that they offer! Ick. This definitely limited my choices, but again, the things I did try were good. I would go back for sure, but wish they wouldn't go the cheap route on the crab, especially since Astoria is right on the water. It seems like a missed opportunity.

The rolls and sushi were delicious, but why do they put what amounts to salad dressing on the rolls? Next time I'm getting sauce on side.

Great food, best Sushi on the coast of Oregon. When your restaurant is located a couple miles from the local seafood source you get the best fresh ingredients! I love the Chappy Roll for kids and adults who are new to Sushi. This is a great stop for a historic tour of downtown Astoria. The oldest City west of the Mississippi. The owner and staff are very friendly and its quite fun to watch the Sushi Chef make your lunch at the Sushi Bar. Enjoy. Fast lunch time service makes it great for a quick stop.

Quality fish. Salmon that melts on your tongue. Try the Doug and Kathy roll. I've been waiting for a sushi restaurant in Astoria Oregon for years (I have a lot of family there, so I end up visiting at least once a year.) Let me tell you, this place was worth waiting decades for. The service was great, prices were right down the middle, and the fish was high quality. I did go there on their opening weekend, so I'm excited to see them after they've gotten comfortable.

This place was not bad for a coastal restaurant. They had good prices and the food wasn't bad. They didn't have salmon belly which is my favorite but they had a large menu. I would go back.

Tora Sushi, to it's credit, had a lot of variety. The six-page menu included appetizers, bento, sashimi, combination plates, and a 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm Happy Hour (both sushi and rolls). While this wasn't the best sushi I had ever had, the Nabeyaki udon--chicken, vegetables, poached egg, and mixed tempura--made this stop four-star worthy!

Super bummed, I spent almost $30 bucks on 75cents worth of rice and fake crab. I was angry when I left. Angry. Astoria has so many great places to eat, with great seafood, and for what I spent I could have had my pick. The only reason I gave it one star was because I didn't get food poisoning. That's the only positive thing I can say about this place. Safeway has better sushi for a quarter of the price.

We had sushi, sashimi and tempura. Sashimi was pretty good but because the rice they use, I couldn't tell what kind of rice it was, was really bad. It ruined everything else. They need to get California rose or sasanishiki to make decent sushi. Rolls were passable but very flimsy. Sorry but it will be a long time before I go back there again.

This place is a joke! It's a shame to Japan and sushi lovers. First of all the sushi rolls are not traditional at all. Who wants to eat a "pizza sushi" and the famous ginger dressing salad with CORN on it? Is this a sushi spot or a Mexican/Italian place? The biggest disgrace was that they serve the combination plates on a bridge covered in tin foil!! Are you kidding me? First of all, I lifted the tinfoil and the bridge was filthy under it. So they thought "hey lets cover this dirty bridge with tinfoil and put food on it". Then serve it to our customers without giving them a side plate, so now they have to maneuver around the railings on the bridge to eat your food! What a joke, I wish I took a picture of it! Bridges are for sushi presentations and food platters, not to EAT off of as a plate. I hate this place and whoever thinks this place is good obviously has low standards and doesn't know good sushi at all. I would gladly drive 2-3 hours to Portland or Seattle to get good sushi. I guess when you don't have actual Asian people making your sushi at a sushi place then you get what you pay for. The sushi at Fred Meyers down the street is WAY better then this place. But hey, look who's making it.
