Rose River Inn Bed & Breakfast

1510 Franklin Ave
Astoria, 97103
Reviews:
Every towel I tried to use smelled old and soured, a lot of people don't smell when a towel needs to be replaced, but I do. Also, the bedding and towels had way too much detergent and softener fragrance. The bed itself was a strange mix of soft but with large indentations where you lay, which results in a big hump between you and your partner. I did not experience Pam as being especially accommodating. I felt she fit the adage that many BnB owners make you feel like you stay at their convenience, not your own. My husband remarked that there were at least 7 different little signs in our room.
Not for Everyone There are a lot of good reviews for this B & B and I can understand why. The house is very nice, the garden is beautiful and location is fabulous. That being said we've stayed at a number of bed and breakfasts/Inns and the Rose River Inn did not meet our expectations. We had the "Inspiration Room" on the top floor. Pros: the bed is very comfy and there is a separate room with two additional double beds. Claw foot tub has a view of the river, upper floor is quiet and private Cons: 1) As has been mentioned in previous reviews there are notes all over the room telling guests what not to do. I understand the owners need to relate some things to the guests, but the postings (at least nine) create a less than welcoming atmosphere, 2) there is almost no place to put your things. The surfaces are all covered with "stuff" including a lot of old "collectible" lunch boxes. And in the two rooms there are a total of two small drawers that are empty, not filled with more "stuff" (Christmas decorations and the like). There is no closet to hang clothes, the two closets are posted off limits. The only places to put any of a guest's things are in the two very small drawers, a shelf in the bathroom and some hanging pegs (most of which are in the stairwell (!)). We had to put all of our stuff on the spare beds. If there was a family renting the room I don't know where things would go, 3) the ceiling is fairly low in some areas, so it you are over six feet tall I would not recommend this room, 4) the room with the two double beds is very cramped as the beds take up almost all of the space, 5) we stayed two nights. When we came back on our second day there, someone had come into the room to retrieve the coffee cups we used, but they did not bother to make the bed or replace the towel or washcloth that were left in the tub. 6) Breakfast was just OK, nothing special. Tasted fine, but both days had almost identical menus, a dish of mixed fruit, an egg dish in a ramekin and a small square of cake that clearly came from a box mix. If you're looking for the gourmet breakfast experience, this isn't it. We did not feel the atmosphere was very welcoming. Rather than a "Make yourself at home" atmosphere it feels like you're staying in your grandmother's attic.
The Rose River Inn was a very pleasant place to stay! My room was very comfortable, airy, and light, also quiet. And spotlessly clean. It also had a little sitting room off of the bathroom, with a great view of the Columbia River. The breakfast was good, and the owners were helpful and low-key. For a B&B, the price was about average, in my experience.

Clementine’s Bed & Breakfast

Unless you are a very heavy sleeper, DO NOT stay in the French Violet Room, Sunrise Room, or Clementine Room. The shared hallway has a stench from years of scents that have collected on rugs & furnitures. The walls are paper thin. You can hear every word of your neighbors' conversations, every single pipe in the house, every step of breakfast preparation downstairs, footsteps, doors slamming, other guests packing, fans being turned off/on, garbage truck outside despite closed windows, etc... The Dog friendly section of the property, however, is a nice and quaint cottage.
Loved it here! Stayed in the Moose II Suite and it was divine. Amazingly clean, charming and has jacuzzi tub. Plus a delicious breakfast, coffee/tea always available and the assistant/staff/house keeper has the warmest smile. I'm tempted to steal her and the bedding :) Thanks!
Our first time at a bed and breakfast and it was lovely! Breakfast was delicious and Judith was a doll. Would definitely recommend to everyone!

I highly suggest their lunch time buffet. Great taste of Indian Cuisine. And you can eat as much as you want! Their tea is also enjoyable. Love their desserts....mango ice cream, yum! They also have belly dancing and live music during special events.
I recommend the lunch time buffet. For $10, it was worth having a high variety of quality Indian food.
Enjoyed the lunch buffet. Food was tasty but not exceptional. I gave it an extra star because we came in at 3:00 p.m. and the buffet was being removed, so it probably wasn't the past time to taste the food

Great food, cool atmosphere! This place is a True Gem. I had the blackened grilled halibut and all I can say is wow. My girl friend had the fish and chips and they were amazing as well. Put this one on your list.
When we arrived, the tavern was in full swing with locals telling their stories. (It was only 5:30 or so). We weren't in the mood for bar food. but we stayed to have a drink on the back patio. The bartender who came out and took our order was a hoot. I'm not a beer person, so the bartender suggested some pomegranate hard cider. She brought me out a sample, and laughed at the look on my face when I decided it wasn't for me. Then she suggested the hard apple cider, which was great. Dogs are allowed on the patio, and you can watch the boats in the harbor.
Great atmosphere, great salad, great halibut..... Grilled and fried!!!!! Highly recommend !!!!

Mary Todd’s Workers Bar & Grill

Reviews:
Workers is home. Friendly customers. Friendly bartenders. Best breakfast in town.Served all day. Awesome Bloody Mary's, no Foo foo. The Bloody Mary you would make at home. If your coming from Portland or Seattle to the beach. Stop by the Workers!
I simply fell in love with Mary Todd's. We walked into this cash only tavern looking for breakfast and a stiff morning cocktail. We met Bobbi who was working the bar, and what a sweetheart she is! I see Mary Todd's as a little local treasure. The bar is wood with whimsical carvings from various travelers and locals alike. The have a very large outdoor area with a BBQ, tables and a fire pit. It is just my kind of tavern. We needed meat. The woman working the kitchen was a delight, and she is no stranger to grilling a steak. The Ribeye breakfast steak we ordered was cooked perfectly. It had a deep salty crust on it with a blood red, melt-in-your-mouth texture. I salivate thinking of it. A knife was not needed. If only I could find a place in my home town that could do that to a piece of meat. Locally farmed meat to boot. It had a sweet grassy flavor. The hash browns and eggs that came with the steak were pushed to the side. We should have ordered the steak with a side of another steak. I fully intend to stop at Mary Todd's every time I am in Astoria. I will most likely compare every steak I eat from now on with that work of art the cook made for us.
I really wanted to like this place and maybe I still do. To be honest, if it wasn't for Yelp there is no way in hell I would have stopped here to eat. Calling it a dive bar is being kind to the interior but then again that's part of its charm. We ate here on the 4th of July. Service was slower than a slug on a hot salted sidewalk but she was friendly enough and it was a holiday after all so I don't hold it against her. I'm not sure if you can eat outside (I doubt you'd get any kind of service out there) but it appears they have a pretty cool seating area out back. Anyway, the gf had a hamburger which looked pretty damn good. I had the prime rib which was also good. I wouldn't say it was a great value but it was flavorful and cooked to order. Frankly, I'd give this place higher rating except both of us came down with a mild case of food poisoning (mine was more mild than the gf). I must be in a fantastic fucking mood because I'm still willing to give this place another shot but after a night spent vomiting I doubt I can convince the gf to give it another whirl. If I eat here again and don't die I'd give this place at least 3 stars.

Great BBQ! And you can't beat $5 for lunch.
Amazing food, but winter hours are lacking. Also doesn't stick to open hours.

Grandview Bed & Breakfast

1574 Grand Ave
Astoria, 97103
Reviews:
When I think of Astoria, I think of a quirky, old and exhausted Victorian town that had its heyday many moons ago and now stands on its own as a funky place. This is what you get when you visit Grandview B & B. Funky, old, and in those two things - charm. Sharlene is someone who has lived a nice long life and probably has many stories to tell. She is usually the woman who greets you when you arrive. Be patient, as it takes her a bit to get to the front door. Also, if you come down to the lobby area after you have checked in and try to talk to Sharlene, make sure she can see who you are. I watched a few times as guests came down the stairs to call out to her about a question and she can't move her neck as easily to know who she is talking to. :) Be kind and patient with this wonderful lady. We stayed in the Treetops Room which has a balcony where you can look out over the river and see the old Flavel home. And you can even spy the Goonies house in the far off distance. Breakfast is served at 7:30, 8:30 or 9:30 and you get to choose which one works best for you. Bagels, smoked salmon and chocolate muffins! YUM! The sweet chef was wonderfully sweet and we felt very special eating in the closed off room. If you want 1000 thread count sheets or modern amenities, this is not where you will find them. Come for the experience and the charm of staying in a very old house. I love this place and am making this a yearly traditional stop on our way to Cannon Beach.
My daughters and I had a really nice time at Grandview. It's a large Victorian style home with a spectacular view of the water, all of the rooms we saw were brightly decorated, clean and comfortable. The service was great and enjoying a very nice breakfast while looking out over the Columbia was very memorable. Some things to keep in mind the house is over a hundred years old so yes, not everything is going to be perfect. It's a b&b, you're there for the experience, charm and personal touch.
This was an amaaaazingly grand find! All major chains were booked solid so we first checked into one of the $80 rooms on Marine Dr. to find it had no AC!! We opened the windows only to be blown away with traffic and bridge construction noise. We immediately asked for a refund and started calling lodging options away from Marine Dr. and lucked into an available room at Grandview! Our room, called "Cloud Nine" came with a lovely view of the Astoria-Megler Bridge and Columbia River sunset! And in the morning, we sat in the private breakfast nook in a turret with a gorgeous view of the river!! Breakfast included fresh fruit, juice, coffee, salmon and cream cheese on a cheddar bagel, and chocolate muffins. Staying at the Grandview was a highlight of our trip, a wonderful surprise find!! Please note that this review was written in July 2013. I just got around to posting it a year later!!

Drina Daisy Bosnian Restaurant

Reviews:
I loved this place. To begin with, my dad is from Slovenia....and my whole life I grew up with foods cooked by my mom, who learned from dad's mom...plum dumplings, yummy meats....food loaded with FLAVOR. I have missed those. In lil' ol' Astoria....is a restaurant with not only the foods, but the wine of my home, the coffee of my home, the desserts of my home. The chef is AMAZING. The foods were amazing, and the appetizer plate was to die for. I would say more, but I'm salivating so much it is shorting out the keyboard. Go.... go....
Hi, I have eaten at this place on about six or seven occasions and have enjoyed a fairly reliable and consistent Bosnian flavor. The owner Fordinka came to recognize me and greeted me when ever I came in. Cool enough? Yeah, cool. Then (my update),,, Jeeeez! I went back and told the lady (the owner?) that it is so good to come in and see them again. Kinda cranky, she said, "I'm real busy, what do you want today?" I was the only one I could see in there. I said lunch. She said WELL? WHAT?! YIKES!! I said bye bye now. The food is probably still good if you can put up with a bitchy little old haybag from the old country. Stephanie's Cabin has good food good service, reasonable prices and they are open on a regular basis. //(~_~)\\ Me
I was really excited to try Bosnian food because I've never had it before. I admit that the "spinach pita" made me think it'd be like a spanokopita so that was strangely exciting. The stuffed cabbage made me think it'd be like a Polish one so that excited me too. The entire idea of trying a new cuisine excited me, so we thought since we were driving through Astoria and didn't want fast food, we'd try something different. I wish we hadn't. If I could rewind back time, I'd undo this decision and voted for McDonald's, KFC, Subway, anything but this. The service was difficult to handle. There was one server for the entire restaurant. He was flustered because the place was packed. He was also quite huffy/irritable but trying to hold it together. We felt badly for him but his attitude was a turn off. The food was ridiculously salty. I thought I was in Scotland with the amount of salt we had in our food, but quickly remembered that there is no stuffed cabbage in Scotland. The food took FOREVER. I was really, really hungry and I thought maybe it was the hunger that made it feel like it was taking forever, but my partner told me it was taking as long as I thought. The stuffed cabbage was ridiculously salty. The pepsi and the water weren't enough to get the saltiness to tame down. The stuffed cabbage was also FROZEN so the centre was room temperature/luke warm at best. The spinach pita was more like a puff pastry filled with scrambled egg and the occasional piece of spinach - nothing spanokopita-like at all (sorry to Greece for the temporary confusion on my part). The portions were also ridiculously small. I was hungry but couldn't stomach more of the food here. Also, the thing that absolutely pissed me off is $2 for pepsi. They serve it in a small glass with ice...so you're paying $2 for less than half a can of pepsi. The menu looked expansive. I will DEFINITELY try Bosnian food again but just not here. I think the food sounds really exciting and different and I'd like to try it somewhere that could do it justice...which isn't here.

What a hidden gem. Their dining room is doing them Zero favors, but just sit down and bear with me. This is some seriously fresh food they are cooking here. The dishes I tried (Came once for lunch and dinner) were the garlic sauce fish dish (16-18 bucks if I remember), and some sort of garlic chicken with veggies dish. Both (especially the fish) had sauces that were bursting with flavor. I got that hearty, tongue coating umami flavor with both dishes. The waitstaff consisted of one lone sweetheart of a Thai woman. She spoke very broken English, but was so spot on with service. She would kind of hide away and wait for just the right moment to approach the table, and was always very gracious and friendly.
Pretty solid food. Considering this is one of the only Thai places on the Oregon coast, I'd come here again. The portion size was great. Make sure to ask for spice if you like spicy Thai.
I had the basil lamb curry and it was so tasty and delicious! Service was great too! My dish was on my table in what seemed like a few minutes! I'll be coming back to try another dish.
