I'm a lover of buffets, and was excited to see this one. We have eaten here at least once a month for the last 6 months, and while it is true that sometimes a dish or two will be subpar, the next time it will be better. They are always happy to improve as well. The regular waitress is always helpful and friendly, my daughter loves coming to talk to her and watch the boats out on the water. I really enjoy the sushi, fried shrimp, potstickers and chow mein. The little dishes of ice cream are a great way to end. The building is older and can be cool, so I recommend layers, but living on the coast, I always recommend layers! Really, if you want a nice casual meal on the water in Astoria, you can't beat Riverview.

This is the first "Asian" restaurant I have been to that was sailor themed with old fashioned jig songs playing. It was atrocious. The sushi was something of nightmares. Truly, the worst Asian buffet I've ever been to.

Just don't eat buffet Chinese food or buffet sushi. It is simply a bad idea. Sad and depressing atmosphere. View is lovely.

We have eaten here twice in recent months, and been satisfied both times. We always visit at night, since we are on our way to Long Beach after work and it's dinner time. We first came for the Happy Hour specials, but have since tried the buffet as well. The food is good, and the buffet has a solid variety of food. The happy hour menu is pretty extensive, as well. One problem we had once with the happy hour menu was a hair in the food, but the waitress/bartender was quick to fix the problem, and removed the item from the bill. The sushi on the buffet did not disappoint at all, although I am not an expert. On a side note, one of the dessert options on the buffet was a small offering of ice cream that HAD to be Tillamook or some other quality sort--so tasty. The ambience is definitely lacking when there's no view, but both the bartenders/waitresses that we've encountered have been awesome--super friendly and helpful. We will return again on our journey to Long Beach.

Ber disappointed. We went in to have a drink and appetizer but were shocked when we got the bill. We were not told the prices had changed and had come thru the bar where they had no price change info. When I confronted the waitress, she just said sorry I did not let u know. If we had known we might have made different choices.

When we out the dock, we decided to see what kind of restaurant that now inhabited the space of a once-fine food establishment, located right on the water, at 4:00 p.m. on September 1. Both Sweetie and I love Chinese food, we were hungry - and were told upon entering that the Dinner service had just started. "All fresh and good now!" our Hostess exclaimed, as if we were hard of hearing. The place was hot and stuffy - no air movement, except the back doors were open. The fresh ocean breeze drew in billows of smoke from the "Cigarette Party" taking place on the deck, just outside the door. Areas of carpeting were black with dirt and grease. It was difficult to slide a chair up to the table - the carpet was tacky underfoot. And, the table was sticky - I guess to make sure the dishes wouldn't slide off the surface. However, what was on the steam table looked and tasted more like it had been cooked for lunch - at 11:00 a.m. On the "up" side - their steam table was hot, keeping the food up to "safe" temperature - the down side - everything had been "cooking" all afternoon. The steamed salmon was good, with a little salt, pepper and soy sauce on it. The other offerings looked unappetizing and smelled very old. Sweetie had the Egg Flower soup; it was mostly corn starch-thickened water; my Hot & Sour, pretty much the same, but with different seasoning. The Chicken Sticks about which others have raved might have been tasty when freshly prepared - but after five hours or so, they were dry, tough and not so delightful. The vegetable dishes were cooked to the point of mush. We asked about the food, and the only person who spoke English said, "We keep cooking it and putting it out all the time." We waited. And we waited. Because we had to resume our journey, we choked down some dinner. Only then, did workers start bringing out shellfish dishes. Sweetie got a couple of crab legs and other items (I'm allergic, so I don't eat it). She said it was good, and fresh tasting. They advertised "Fish & Chips", but we saw none. Also, there was no ice cream, Tillamook, or otherwise, available. By the time we left, at 4:45 p.m., they had changed over the food on the steam table - and it now looked pretty fresh and delicious -- as we were leaving. I complained on the way out, saying we should only pay for "old food" because that was what was out, at the start of their dinner service when we ate. "Oh no, I see her have crab, you pay full price or I call police!" shouted our gracious hostess. We paid (in full). Hostess then shouts, "What? No tip?" I should have just kept waking, but I felt compelled to respond, "Call the police!" Next time, we'll go to the barbecue place across the hallway - it smelled great in there.

I am definitely a fan. A little too much of a fan these days. I have noticed the quality and selection of the food has gotten much better as summer approaches. I can't get enough of the "chicken sticks" and their sushi rolls are well above average for a Buffet. They also have the bar up and running now. Cheap drinks and 20+ appetizers. Can't beat their to-go option. ~7 bucks for a large clam-shell of all of their selections.

Great views, as good as it gets here. Well made cocktails, great Happy Hour specials and very friendly staff/bartender. The food is varied and they have a very limited "all you can eat" buffet that looked okay, but we went for the main menu with wider offerings.

Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. The once hustling buffet with the awesome view is no longer as hustling, nor as good as it once was. The view is about the only thing left going for it now. I realize the winter is tough on coastal business, but damn it if we locals should be ignored. We keep you going in the off season, as well as bring in guests during the travel season. Reward and respect us!! Arrived just at the start of the buffet...the green salad had yet to be touched by customer utensils. The tomatoes had a rancid flavour. The egg flower soup was like gelatinous oil. No flavour at all. Selections were tired, and thrown together. No new options to pick from except 2 bizarre additions. An odd equivalent to french fried potatoes were in a hot bin. It was like they had some leftovers to spare. They also had chunks of dried out ham in sweet and sour sauce with canned pineapple slices. Not visually appealing at all. Food looked like it had been heated up again. Lo mein was over done and hard in spots...tasted sour. Rice was dry. Meats were tough and fatty. Desserts tasted stale. Just failure all the way around. Mongolian BBQ was covered up and not offered. Portions were small and that is how they came out of the kitchen. Word of mouth reflects what we saw. I have never come so close to asking for a refund. Your once repeat customers are not returning. I am now in those ranks. I had hopes for here, but now am saddened at how taking shortcuts in quality has ruined what could have been a decent eatery. Chinese buffets don't have to be substandard. It takes caring, attention, and dedication to quality. It looks as if you no longer care, and if you don't, why the hell should I? DJ (the owner) is working the line...how can he serve this? It's been fun.

I stopped at the Riverview Buffet because of its great location at the end of a pier overlooking the Columbia River. The bartender made an excellent martini and the view was wonderful. They also had an excellent happy hour appetizer menu and I enjoyed some great calamari. I will definitely go back when I return to Astoria!!

Visiting from Bay Area, the food is great. I wish the Mongolian barbecue is open. The views are spectacular. If this restaurant were to open in Santa Cruz or San Francisco, there would be premium charged for the view. It was on the dock and we can see the large cargo ships and patrol boats going around.

We always enjoyed going to this buffet for a couple of years but it has progressively lost the good food and environment. For lunch first the shrimp with vegetables went away then the broccoli and beef went away. These were substituted for chicken and broccoli and some jalapeno chicken both of which really are not very good. Then the fish that were very good white fish then went away and was substituted with some very bad and greasy bottom feeder nasty fish type sticks. Then the scallops went away but in the process of that they tried to put out some fake ones yes fake looked like rolled up to foo or something inside them. They always have Salmon and there are some times when it is not too nasty to eat but we tend to shy away from that now along with the fish sticks. So basically all the good food has gone and has been substituted with low cost replacements but yes the price of the buffet has gone up of course. Now the all you can eat sushi well this is another story it has gotten so cheap and small with nothing inside your just basically eating rice, but there are times it's is good also. This depends on the day and attitude of the owner when she makes it, yes the owner the sushi chef is gone and never was replaced. But if you have the extreme luck on a good day to get some grab it quick, because when it runs out like anything there you're in for a long, long wait before she makes some more. This applies to anything there. Now the dinner you do get some shrimp and vegetables and some very skimpy small snow crap legs but again when there gone you're in for a long wait again to get that tiny little bite of crab out of each one but you do pay more for the work to get that food at dinner. The salad bar is the same all day, just bag salad no tomatoes, mushrooms, cucumbers, but at times you do get some hard boiled eggs. The soup is terrible very few venture for that. For desert you do get some cheap ice cream and some nasty filled cream puffs, along with some bad cookies.

Went here for the lunch buffet. Service was truly fantastic and the view is incredible. The food was tasty, but still felt buffet-style. Some tasty dishes, though not labelled clearly to know what each was. They had labeler stickers stuck to the sneeze guard rather than stands near each bin. Some unique offerings like Bo Bo Shrimp. Not exactly sure what it was, but it was tasty. I would suggest a description along with the name, so folks can determine if it is spicy, garlicky, etc. and for allergies like peanuts or other nuts. Had the fresh to order Stir Fry. It was shrimp-based and was tasty. Perhaps some other meat offerings would be good. Small selection of sushi style rolls was lacking. The roll size was pretty tiny, so small you couldn't tell what it was inside.. Again, the labeling needs help. I am not sure that folks coming in will know what they are. I had no idea what a Salem Roll was. I had grandma and grandpa tourist there from the Midwest. The best moment was when grandma told him to grab some smoked salmon. Uhhh, folks, thats pickled ginger. I didn't say anything. Just had to laugh. Good selection of desserts, of which I was too full to try. Definitely would go back, but probably only if I was in Astoria anyway. Wouldn't drive almost 40 miles roundtrip from Seaside for it.

Let me be clear- I don't like buffets but I went with staff... Just so they couldn't talk about me. I should have saved $10 and let'em talk. I will say the dishes look impressive. I found the veggie dishes to be very salty, and the rest of the food either salty or lukewarm. I like food to be served hot and it wasn't. The white fish was dry, the salmon overcooked and mushy. I would have tried the stir- fry; spinach, mushrooms, peppers, shrimp and pork (?) but no one was around. the dessert tray had a nice assortment but I didn't try anything. People seemed to be enjoying the food.. Not me and not my group.. I wish the place good luck. Since Pier 11 left restaurants seem to have a poor track record here. The chairs were sticky to touch...the windows and sills needed cleaning..but the view through the bird crap on the windows spectacular!!

I went to this place on the day it opened in Astoria. I have taken people from all over the country in the short time they have been open. Everyone loved and this my favorite restaurant in Astoria, Awesome food and incredible view! Lunch or Dinner its the best bet in Astoria.

I was really hoping a chinese seafood buffet would open in Astoria and finally one did. The owner and staff are all really nice and want to make your eating experience the best they can. They have a small buffet by Portland standards, but it is fresh, has enough variety to make it worth while. My favorites are the scallops, the sausage shrimp, chicken on a stick, seafood mix, baked salmon, and steak stir fry. They also have sushi and I triied the California roll which was good. The desserts are also good. Everything was fresh - they were constantly bringing food out since there was a lot of people there and they were eating it all up. The best part is the VIEW. Anywhere you sit you have a great view of the river. The price is also good at $8.75 for lunch. I'll go back to this one!

I was bummed when I heard Cecil's was gone. It seems like every restaurant that goes in that place closes. It has one of the best restaurant views in town (beside Rogue & Bridgewater Bistro). Cecil's was always pretty dead, but I enjoyed their staff and food. When I heard an Asian Buffet was going in I was a little skeptical. But, I was gladly proven wrong. Went for dinner last night with my family and was immediately greeted by a very peppy employee. I was AMAZED at the selection of seafood when it only cost $11.75 per person. Fresh crab, stuffed oysters, steamer clams, salmon, sushi. Holy crap! It was all good. The non-fishy items were decent too. Nothing spectacular, but satisfying. There's a guy who does Mongolian BBQ right there for you and I definitely want to go back and give that a try. Now, for the icing on the cake...the desserts! I am guilty of being a huge sweets snob and WOW. First off, they have sherbet ice cream. I felt like a little kid again. But the coconut sponge cake and strawberry mousse cake were so damn good. I could've eaten a hundred of them. The almond cookies were my all time favorite. I don't normally like almond cookies, but these were soft and sweet....let's just say I left very, very full! Whole family was satisfied. My grandma who didn't even want to eat when we arrived ended up scarfing down 3 or 4 plates. Will definitely be returning. I wish them all the best on their venture. It's about time Astoria had a buffet!

I stopped in for the first time Saturday night at around six. I have to say I am impressed! For the location and the layout these folks have a sweet Japanese buffet restaurant going. The food tasted good and I was very impressed with how well the salmon was cooked and the exotic dim sum, just like in the Samurai movies! I had dim sum for the first time and my favorites were the barbecue pork, the bean curd and the mushroom. What a fun culinary adventure that was today. I remember a sushi bar, fruit bar, hot entree bar, a few soups, steamed dim sum bar, whole cooked salmon serving station, crab legs, shrimp and three desert bars. Two plates satisfied my hunger, what a deal! I am also impressed with how genuine and polite the owners and staff spoke and served my friends and I. I am a professional cook and I have been in the business for a decade and I know the restaurant business is one of the hardest businesses out there. Yes, the sushi could be better Thats why I am giving the Riverview Buffet four stars. I like this Japanese Buffet Restaurant and I'll be going back. - a discriminating gourmet

Great views! Surprisingly good! For the price..12.95 for dinner, it's a great value. Sushi, cooked salmon and fried scallops are. Hit!! A decent variety of dim sum, and Chinese dishes. Desserts are very good. Service is excellent! The fish is fresh. Atmosphere is outdated, but it's worth going for the view. I would go again!

We were looking for a quick bite to eat and trying to stay away from fast food. Buffet had fresh salmon. Hot and Sour soup was spicy and had decent flavor. The fried salmon rolls were good. The other sushi rolls had good flavor and were fresh. Kids were only $3 under 5 and $5 under 10. Pretty good deal. I found service was friendly and prompt. For buffet food I thought it was pretty good, and would definitely come again.
