Excellent food and service. We had their special of the day, seafood curry. Wonderful flavors! We also had the Thai fried rice and a red curry with chicken, bamboo shoots, and spinach. A lovely experience. And they were willing to Avondale us of we had tickets for a play shortly.

After many years of walking past, we decided to give Thai Pepper a try. Wished we had come in before! Actually 4.5 Stars--prices were a tad high, and the very first impression was with the hostess who appeared annoyed that we didn't have reservations for the half-full dining room. And this was at 8 p.m., when most people are already at their plays for the evening. Everything from then on was great. My husband ordered the special, which was a Red Curry Seafood dish, and I had the Lemongrass Vegetable Stir-fry with tofu. The Stir-fry was topped with what appeared to be house-made carrot chips that had been cut into long, twisty strips. Both exceeded our expectations. The service was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was comfortable with good music playing but not too loud. The food was really excellent, and we'll be dining there again!

We've been going to Thai Pepper since it opened. Holidays, special occasions, you name it. We were even there the night of the great flood. Thai Pepper just keeps on keeping on. Food is consistently good, and so is the service. Noise level is low for a place so small. It's not authentic Thai, more like Thai fusion, but it's really all good. You just can't go wrong. My one menu suggestion: Do not miss the Tiger Rolls for an appetizer,

I can't understand why you can add a little fish sauce and peanut to a dish, and somehow think it's thai food.

Service was alright. The food wasn't. Paid $16 for probably the worst Pad Thai I've ever had. It was way too vinegary, it started out alright, but after a couple bites I couldn't stomach it. No where near what I'd consider authentic Thai food. It was really loud, but that could be attributed to the table of kids I was sat right next to.

The drink: so so, not the best gin and tonic in Ashland for sure. The food: chicken curry wontons were dry and lackluster. Chicken satay had good flavor but is madly overpriced. But the service... Upon entering I was rudley asked if the girl could help me in a tone and facial expression implying that I was obviously lost. After being seated, I waited ten minutes before being greeted and then, seriously, fifteen minutes before receiving my drink. Overall: I don't think I'll be returning.

This is probably the blandest, most Americanized Thai food I've ever had. The chicken was rubbery and the curry dish had very little flavor. Both the peanut sauce and red curry tasted like it was straight out of a can from the grocery store. The service was decent, but the food was very disappointing.

If pictures say a thousand words, then my last upload for Thai Pepper is speaking dictionary! Even though I've been coming here for so many years, when I walk up to the door, my eyes can't help but look at the menu and wonder what new treats are waiting for me inside. I wander down the white stairs, all the while hoping there won't be a wait for one of the coveted tables. Tonight we were early enough to beat the rush. The food, as always, was perfect. I had the usual appetizers (all of them are delicious), but the two specials were really something. The Curry Seafood was a mix of shrimp, mussels, clams, octopus, and white fish in a curry sauce. So good! The Salmon was done to perfection with baby bok choy and a sauce that was beyond definition. Never has this restaurant disappointed me and tonight was no exception. TIP: They have gift cards if you want to give someone in Ashland a real treat!

Fantastic. Period. I'm guessing the locals aren't used to reviewing their own restaurants, b/c the rating seems really skewed....

Thai pepper has good food but the service once again was very poor. By the time the martini's arrived they were watery. We suspect they sat in their shakers too long allegedly waiting for martini glasses. Please use a tumbler. We told our server at the beginning we had a play to go to. Oh no problem. But 20min or more our drinks arrive. You know we would have a bottle of wine with dinner. Poor servers are not making you money. Not trying this one again.

This place used to be the best Thai restaurant in town, but has gone downhill over the years. The food has gotten more bland and the portions have become smaller. During our last visit, we discovered they no longer have their long-standing vegetarian menu (for our veggie guest). The service staff were kind, but had way too many tables to serve. The most frustrating things was that, for a table of 3 guests, they brought only one very small bowl (about 1.5 cups) of rice. It took 10 minutes to get another bowl, which was equally small. They were also very stingy with their hot sauce, which was desperately needed for the overly bland curry dishes. Most oddly, they seemed to have only one song for their stereo which was on permanent repeat. I don't know how it didn't drive the service staff crazy!!!

I went this restaurant with my friend who live in this town. She told me that don't expect like Portland Thai Restaurant. She was right, food taste was decent nothing special. The service was not good. My water glass was empty till I leave the restaurant. I will say this restraint service is one star and food was two starts.

I did a check in but after reading the comments I had to post. We have eaten at a lot of Thai places. This is definitely not the worst. The worst is in Penticton for sure. And this wasn't traditional pad Thai with rice noodles but stood on its own as being very tasty. Cant comment on the curry but the duck was flavorful. But wtf are the comments about service? We are coming home from Palm Springs driving to Vancouver and in two weeks this is by far and away the best service we have had. In fact we were thinking that sub par service was just how Americans are taught, but this place has shown us that there is hope. If we are ever back this way we will definitely be back.

Okay. I'm an Ashland local who formerly lived in Portland and was *spoiled* silly by the plethora of Thai food options in Portland.... Plus, I've been to tons of thai restaurants all over the country. Thai Pepper has to rank somewhere near the bottom of the barrel... The worst part: It's ridiculously expensive for exceptionally MEDIOCRE food. I don't know what's worse; the fact that the food is seriously unimpressive and blah, or the price. Either way, this is just one overpriced restaurant that I will continue to avoid... It's too bad. Ashland doesn't have many Thai restaurants, and most of them are just okay.

  • Bobbie B.

This is a thai restaurant that does not know what thai food is. They believe coconut milk and hot peppers make a curry. The other dishes relied on soy sauce for flavor. The prices are very high for this pseudo-asian experience. Otherwise the atmosphere and the service was okay.

    (2)
  • Kyle H.

Not terrible, but with all the other options in town there is no reason to ever go back. Service was dismissive. The wait staff are amateurish, more like busboys just dropping the food on the table then coming back after a long while and dropping the bill on the table. I had the Chicken Pad Thai: glued together angel hair pasta with tiny flecks of tuna-like meat particles. No spice at all. There was a small music ensemble playing, but unfortunately their friends and family jammed cheek by jowl into the table next to us and held court like they owned the place. Not all bad, as the beer was cold enough.

Was sorely disappointed by our meal at Thai Pepper, as I had really enjoyed the restaurant last year. This time our food was not really very tasty---lemonade that tasted like it came from a mix, mushy fruit, and chicken satay that was not very inspired. It was noisy in the restaurant, and service was slow. We won't be back. :(

Gummy rice, expensive special of seafood curry served a la carte. This place has location but is really not all that. I will give them kudos for working to find something for my friend's picky son to eat.

Nice outdoor patio next to the creek. The service was good. The food was all pretty darn good and much better than your average Thai place. I would defiantly go back the next time through Ashland.

This is my first time in Oregon and I've been here for three days and have already eaten here twice. The food is amazing and the atmosphere, especially the outside seating near the creek, is great.

  • Elguero s.

Disgusting. This kind of cuisine is not hard to get right, but all of the dishes we ate on a recent visit were messed up somehow: lukewarm soup, mushy overcooked rice, just generally mediocre. And then everything is quite expensive just to add insult to injury. One star for inexpensive sparkling wines but there's really nothing else to recommend in this place.

Probably the worst Thai food I have had in my life. Really disappointed I got swayed to go here by some review my husband read. Ugh! I've never wished I could have my hour and $ back more than after this experience. We started by being seated outside on the patio. It was very crowded, and there were flies everywhere. The restaurant was packed, so servers were very busy. We finally got our two cocktails, which were terrific. The only saving grace of the meal. I had a ginger martini, and my husband had a basil mojito. For dinner we had green curry chicken (mush!), beef over spinach, and a shrimp dish. Everything tasted Americanized, and looking back I never saw anyone that looked remotely Asian. The worst part was the meal was very expensive. Each dish was approximately $19, which would be fine for good food, but for this food it was a huge waste of $. Go for a drink, and then RUN!

I accidentally left my wallet at home but all of my cards, drivers license, passport, and everything is copied into an app on my iPhone. My wife and I walked in, I explained the situation and showed them the app and the photo of the credit cards. No problem! You can pay with that! BUT .... a couple of hours later with a $100 meal to pay for they decided that, no, we couldn't pay with that. They called the owner. Nope. Can't be trusted. OK. My fault, I'm the one who forgot my wallet. So, after 10 or so years of being a patron at the Thai Pepper I left my beautifully graying 61 year old wife as collateral and drive home to get my wallet. They ignored her while I was gone..... didn't even fill her water glass or apologize. I came back and paid. They said they were awfully sorry. I said "mistakes happen.... It's really all about how they are handled". But no one got it.

We showed up about an hour and a half before our 8pm play and were told that there was no more seating available in the downstairs dining room. We chose to eat in the bar, but we had to put in our order right away in order to guarantee that we could be out in time for the play. It was nice that the staff gave us that warning, but it seemed pretty unreasonable that the food should take that long. We had the pineapple and shrimp fried rice and the chicken in roasted red curry. As they predicted, the food took quite a long time to arrive, and it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. The chicken dish was the better of the two -- the peanuts give it a nice flavor, and it isn't a standard dish that you can find in any Thai restaurant. The fried rice was just ordinary, and for $17, I expect more. If they could bring the dishes out faster and lower prices by about $5 per dish, I would change my rating to 4 stars. But as it is, QPR isn't great, and that makes the whole experience just okay.

Great location, with creekside patio. Beautiful ambiance. Calamari had a lot of breading, and I found the sweet and sour sauce with it too spicy (but was tasty). Had the fish special, serviced with green beans, peppers, and a sauce with coconut milk in it... Very good!! Thai iced tea was excellent. We arrived at opening time on a Monday at 5 pm, and the place was empty. The patio outside was almost filled by the time we left. Popular spot, even on a Monday night. Close to a five star rating, but the menu selection was a bit weaker than other Thai places I've been to... And didn't love the calamari. Overall, we were happy with our meal, and LOVED the ambiance of the outdoor patio :)

Four of us returned to Thai Pepper as is our usual routine in visiting Ashland each Autumn. We have been attending plays in Ashland for 29 consecutive years. Thai Pepper was always a sure bet. Not this time. I was so disappointed. We ordered two items off the Daily Specials. The Alaska halibut cheeks were 5 small pieces, hardly a mouthful apiece, and rather tasteless. The lamb rack was quite good, but again, 2-3 bites per chop; only 4 chops were served. At about $25 each for these menu items it was very poor value. The old standby chicken curry with bamboo shoots and spinach was good and a good portion. We tried to order the tureen of soup for our party of four but they no longer serve the soup this way. $17 for a bowl of soup for one person? The restaurant was only 1/2 full (Sunday night) and the atmosphere a bit bleak. Perhaps the upstairs Satay Bar is the happening place now? I won't return. The waiter was pleasant and attentive. I wish he'd had a better product to bring to our table.

Thai Pepper is our go-to place for lunch on Fridays; Herself adores the garlic chicken lunch special, nicely crispy skin on moist dark meat. Plus a decent Thai iced tea, and a seat by the creek, it's a great way to start winding down the week.

Where should I start first off the service was atrocious and very rude when I got my dinner finally it wasn't what I ordered but I decided since I already waited 45 minutes I just eat it anyways later I got food poisoning and was sick for the entire next day I wouldn't recommend to anyone ever

Excellent server steered us towards 'small plate' menu as we're heading to the Shakespeare Festival. Excellent choice! Satay sampler was wonderful! Thai salad with prawns was done well also. Tiger Rolls.....yum! Great service as well!

Well, they managed to seat a group of 9 of us. We were out on the patio, which was fine because it was a mild October night and there were heaters. That is, some of the time there were heaters, because they kept going out and having to be restarted by the busy wait staff. The use of the patios allows Thai Pepper to seat a lot more parties than indoors but that doesn't make the kitchen or the bar any bigger. You want to get your orders in ASAP after you're seated so you don't get stuck behind a whole crowd of orders for people trying to get to the 8 o'clock shows. We put our food order in before beverages for that reason and consequently our drinks arrived about the same time as entrees. Of the 7 main courses we orderered, 2 were outstanding and the rest were just good. Not as great a track record as I would like for the kinds of prices they charge. Seek out the crispy sweet-hot fish for the biggest bang for your buck.

Great Thai food with an Indonesian kick! Must haves if you go there: Calamari Tiger Rolls (about as Thai as California rolls are Japanese but still delicious and possibly addicting) Chicken Saté Pad Thai (this dish has the Indonesian kick I spoke of) Beef Panang If the place is packed expect to wait a little bit for Entrées but the Apps and Bar Menu items always come out quick! I would recommend this place to anyone.

  • Michel A.

Service was good. Creek side seating was nice. Food was mediocre at best. The Pad Thai was just not edible. Curry beef had very little beef. Spring rolls were uninspired.

    (2)
  • Susanne R.

Yummy yummy happy tummy. Love their spring rolls! Know in advance this is not the place to come if you're in a hurry. I don't know if that's because all their dishes are made ala minute of because their kitchen is too tiny to crank out mass orders. If you have the time, though, the food is worth the wait. Feeling laid-back and adventurous? Last time we were here we asked that the Chef serve us what he thought we should try that night. We got some amazing treats that weren't even on the menu. Wild take on Bananas Foster here ... ripe nanners in won ton wrappers deep fried and served w/ coconut ice cream. Don't order this alone ;-) Patio seating in the summer lets you enjoy the creek while you savour your meal.

Not typical "thai" food, and a little pricey, but the food is good and the creekside dining is beautiful. There are discounted appetizers during cocktail hour if you eat at the bar. The upstairs bar will be expanded soon, I'm looking forward to seeing the renovations.

Much respect is deserved of Thai Pepper for recognizing in full their function and location. We were greeted respectfully and immediately directed downstairs where the hostess inquired if we had a reservation and if we would be off to see a play. We had no reservation and were informed they could serve us one course as we were in a bit of a hurry. I have great respect for the recognition of or needs and the way it was handled. The food was good. We had green curry and pad thai. The green curry was sweeter then my husband likes and not very spicy. I felt the spice was quite good and I like sweet. The Pad Thai was tasty though atypically tangy. I've bookmarked the place for our next visit.

Amazing sweet and spicy fish!!! Would go there just for that! But they also have great tasting appetizers and their curry is good as well. Would also recommend their phad thai, another one of my favs! Great service and atmosphere!

  • Max W.

It wasn't awful, but everything we got was overcooked. Things we had were the crispy pork belly (burnt to a crisp) and then two or three kinds of satay from the satay bar upstairs. The sauces were good, and if it wasn't so overcooked it might have been better. Cocktails were delicious though.

  • Kathleen B.

No offense to Ashland, but I kind of feel like this should be classified as "Thai" food. It was all right as far as that goes, but don't go expecting something super authentic. We ordered some kind of spring roll appetizer that was nothing like I expected. It was essentially deep fried cream cheese. Do they eat cream cheese in Thailand? Methinks no. Methought I was going to have a coronary after eating just one. The main courses were better. We had a red chicken curry that we had been warned was "the spiciest on the menu." All I can say about the spice is, b*tch, please. It tasted good, didn't have a real rich sauce like a lot of curries, but tasty. The cashew vegetables were pretty good, good portions and fresh.

A few years ago I visited Thai Pepper year after year during the Shakespeare Festival. This was one of my first Thai experiences and I loved the food. Recently, I passed through Ashland and took my wife there for a nice dinner on the patio. We were relocating and seriously looking forward to a great Thai meal. The punchline? We were shockingly disappointed. We had dinner reservations on the patio which was a nice locale. If not for great service, it would get 1 star. The food had little to no flavor and a dish ordered vegetarian arrived with some unflavored tofu slices on top of overcooked noodles. The only plus of the meal were some very good spring rolls. The entrees were overpriced and lack flavor. We had to rectify the disappointment with beers at Caldera next door and a GREAT lunch at Sweet Basil in Eugene as we continued north through Oregon.

Bland, uninteresting and overpriced. I tried their lunch special for 10 bucks and the food is just ok .. nothing special , I should have known better there was only one other table eating there.

My 16 year old daughter and I recently had dinner at Thai Pepper upon a friend's recomendation so, needless to say, I had high hopes. We were seated creekside and it was beautiful and cool on a hot day. We waited for quite sometime to meet our server, Christine. We were completely ready to order by the time she introduced herself. While the food was mediocre and the prices high, the service was worse than that. We felt ignored and when did show up, she wasn't even pleasant. I would not recommend this place to anyone nor will i return.

Do not go to this restaurant thinking that you will be dining on Thai food, or get timely service. Service: My wife and I were in town for a few days and decided to eat here before seeing a play. The service was so slow that if we didn't have our order taken by the lady that recited the nights specials to us, (she did this after I asked about the timing AND the wait), we might have still been waiting! As it was it took an entire HOUR (!!) to get even a mention of our meal, which was brought shortly thereafter. Forget the tripe about waiting patiently for a gourmet repast, this place is not nearly that good. Food: We both ordered a curried chicken dish, hers yellow curry and mine red, supposedly the spiciest (not equating that with tastiest at all). We have the good fortune of having eaten some very good Thai food, at small (and equally busy) Thai restaurants, and this was NOT Thai food, nor did either dish even remotely RESEMBLE a curry dish. In mine there was chicken galore, onions, a bit of spiciness from what was most likely paprika, and a few peanuts thrown in to give it the appearance of Thai food. The flavor was utterly bland, which is just what you get when you cook chicken without seasoning. The red sauce was... I don't know, but clearly NOT curry. My wifes "yellow curry" actually had a hint of curry in the sauce, again with the paprika (hint: that is NOT where Thai food gets spiciness). Also plenty of chicken, but the "yellow curry" was chalky and poorly flavored. The one plus was that there was plenty of food. Sorry, but that doesn't do it. We eat Thai food regularly, and cook it as well. We have curries from 3 countries, and you can vary only one recipe to make a delicious assortment of dishes. Friendly place, poor (WAY too long) service, and no Thai food. Stay home and make an omelette, or go to one of the pubs.

For years we have dined at Thai Pepper on our first and last nights on Ashland. We where there last night and will not return. The Spring Rolls had no flavor. There was lots of crust and very little filling. What filling there was had no flavor. The peanut sauce served with the chicken was watery and had no "punch". The salmon was ok but someone forgot/ didn't know that soy has salt and dusted the fish with salt. A favorite has fallen by the wayside. Luckily Ashland has many good restaurants.

  • Jennifer B.

Came here for lunch and it was all right. Nothing spectacular. Not quite what I had in mind for Thai food. The Pad Thai really left something to be desired for me as it is very nontraditional. The chicken curry was a little watery IMO. The atmosphere is nice though and I like the location. If you're looking for traditional Thai food, I wouldn't recommend this place. If you're looking for a decent meal, go for it.

If you like Thai food, don't bother. If you just like good food, well-prepared... Yeah, still don't bother. Ordered a beef curry. The waitress went through the normal American-Thai ritual of asking how spicy I wanted it ("I tip more if it hurts me, please"), which I expect the chefs to ignore - that's why God invented the spice tray. But I was unprepared for the tasteless, grey slop that was delivered. And there wasn't a single flake of pepper in the dish. When I asked the waitress to please provide a spice tray, she brought out this cutsie little dish with a dainty little crescent of pepper flakes on it - you couldn't fill half a thimble with the amount of pepper she delivered. "Heh. Yeah, that's not going to work. Can I have some peppers please?" But please don't think for a second that the only thing wrong with the Thai Pepper is the lack of Thai-ness or peppers. It's just bad food. I cringed when I saw Rachel Ray give a pitch for this place on an excursion to Ashland while admitting that she hadn't actually eaten anything there! Rachel, taste SOMETHING before you film in front of a restaurant!

Terrible service. we almost did not make the play and we had to skip desert. Took a half an hour to get drinks an almost an hour before any food came. The food was not good. The Beef in the Salad was tough and had no flavor. The much raved about lamb chops came cold and we could never get the waiters attention to complain. Chicke Curry was ok but I have had better. We will not return.Try Tease instead, Fabulous food and great service.

OK Thai food in a fantastic setting by the creek. Compared to some of the authentic cuisine I get in the Bay Area it's slightly white-washed, but as far as presentation, atmosphere and local competition, very solid Southeast Asian fare.

  • Ethan K.

Well, It's not really Thai food at all. The dishes just happen to have some ginger and they do look like Thai food sort of. Overall pretty poor quality food if you have lived in or traveled through Thailand and know the difference. Very pleasant setting by the creek and, in unexpected juxtaposition, a nice, dark lounge atmosphere downstairs. A good place for drinks and no more.

This is one of my favorite restaurants when visiting Ashland, OR. The food is consistently delicious, portions are fairly generous, and it is beautifully presented. The servers have always been friendly and helpful as well as efficient. I love the woodsy feel of the patio seating areas and the nearby freshly babbling brook adds to its serenity. Indoor seating is attractive and comfortable, although the restroom situation could be better. Side note: on a recent visit, the bartender made ~the best~ mojito I've ever tasted!

I keep visiting Ashland - Mt Shasta region from SF bay area every now and then and almost always go have dinner in Thai Pepper. I like the atmosphere a lot, especially on warm evenings seated by the creek. The food might not be authentic thai, but, more importantly, it is delicious. On my most recent visit we had the spicy soup (like tom-yum) as an appetizer and it was great. The spicy taste did not overwhelm the taste of other ingredients, but after finishing you could definitely feel it in your taste buds. They had taken the Black Tiger Black Pearl dish off the menu, but still made it on request. This is one of my favorite dishes of all time, anywhere. The sauce is so good that I'd want to lick it off the plate. I really hope they put it back on the menu. Sometimes when it gets busy, the service is a little slow, but that was not the case during my last visit. You should make a reservation if you want to be seated by the creek.

  • Lauren D.

The food tastes very good, but it's not authentic Thai food, it's not flavorful enough. The Tiger Rolls are amazing. I can only give it a couple stars because the prices are astronomical for what it is. My boyfriend and I ordered an appetizer, two entrees, and 2 drinks (my coconut-something mixed drink was absolutely disgusting), and our bill came to $80, not including tip. After seeing the bill my stomach did not feel so strong! I'd only go here again if they cut their prices in half. Also, if I'm paying that much I certainly don't want to overhear the cooks talking very loudly about their personal lives! That was really inappropriate.

What a treat! Our foursome went out searching for a nice dinner along with the opportunity to watch some of a recent U of O game, without the atmosphere of a pub or sport's bar atmosphere. Being pleasantly surprised we happened upon the Satay Bar section of Thai Pepper which T.V. screens happened to be tuned to the Oregon Duck game. The food was great, the service perfect, and the big screen was located where we had good viewing of the game. The noise level (including the volume on the TV) in the restaurant was very acceptable compared to several other restaurants in Ashland. For small plates we had calamari and (hazel) nut encrusted prawns which were not even on the current menu but after asking about them, our waitress mentioned it to the chef and we were told he would be able to prepare them because it wasn't too busy. They were wonderful as was the fish curry dish that was one of the many specials that night. Our friends had another fish special and the Baby Back Ribs which were also very good. We also had a nice Zinfandel for $29 a bottle. We plan on working our way through Thai Pepper's menu as often as we can before the busy tourist season returns. It was overall a very pleasant experience! Thank you!

This is one of my favorites and is for many of my friends. I am very surprised others did not rate it higher. The seafood curry special is my favorite. The lamb is also very good. They are famous for their Tiger Rolls. I was surprised someone rated the Tiger Rolls poorly. This has been a consistant restaurant for many years.

Did not enjoy the experienced here. I have had Thai food up and down CA and this is the first time in OR and was really disappointed in this place. Not ethnic Thai food more of a fusion of Thai and American. Took about ten minutes after we sat down before the waitress came over. Ordered chicken satay, but came out burned. Have them take it back, but chef said that it was how it comes which I know for a fact is wrong because it is not suppose to be burned black. Ordered fried rice and pad thai and some other dish with ground meat. Pad thai was too salty and with too much soy sauce. Fried rice was a mix of sweet and salty. Ground meat dish was too salty as well. Food was over priced for what they provided. Lets just say this, the food was so disappointing that I didn't even take the left overs which was a lot. I would never come back to this place and I do not suggest anyone to go there.

The food is excellent, and the service was friendly and unrushed. We appreciated the fact that we had time to enjoy our appetizers and drinks and conversation before the main dishes arrived. Our meal lasted 2 full very pleasant hours. When it is warm enough, the outside table are really lovely. Our inside table had a similar view. We had fried calamari with a good spicy sauce and "spicy lemon grass prawn soup" to start; both were really excellent. The thin-sliced fried marinated pork and green curry with chicken main dishes were also interesting and really excellent; another prawn dish was with a garlic cream sauce on spinach-like leaves was also good, but it seemed more French than Thai. The prices for the regular dishes are reasonable ($10-$18 per main dish, $6-$10 per appetizer), but the specials (which we did not try) seemed all to be overpriced ($22-$26) and less interesting. They have good local beers on draft, and decent deserts. While this is not the best genuine Thai food I have ever had, the overall dining experience was very pleasant, on 3 different occasions. Don't try to eat here at the last minute before a play; the measured service would be nerve-wracking instead of delightful if you worried about missing the performance.

One of the best happy hours in Ashland. $3 beers (the pilsner is to die for) and a cheap happy hour food menu with some good stuff on there. Ivan is our server and he is great. We're always so pleased with his service. Thai Pepper keep him around or make him your head server! Ivan is the man and makes frequenting here worthwhile. Will be back to explore the menu more.

Delicious food, great happy hour and excellent service! The satays are delicious, great spring and tiger rolls. The pad noodles on HH menu was not my favorite. Can't wait to go back. It's a little spendy but excellent quality.

I do like the Thai Pepper and have eaten there when in Ashland for several years. The Tiger Rolls are really delicious, cream cheese and crab flavors, wrapped in a crispy fried wonton exterior. I'm also partial to their sweet chili sauce and the Sweet & Spicy Crispy Fish is another favorite of mine. They use a lightly breaded mild cod with a colorful squash garnish, atop jasmine white rice. Yum! We recently tried their Coconut Ice Cream, which is vegan (!), and it is amazingly creamy and wonderful. Four stars as prices are a little high for portion size, but otherwise lovely food.

Atmosphere and service were both very pleasant. Pad Thai noodles were overcooked and SATURATED with fish sauce- might have even used shoyu. Had strange chicken meatballs also saturated so couldn't finish it. This is a beginner dish even for home cooks. My wife's fried fish with chili sauce had a decent flavor- fish was not really crispy even where the sauce didn't hit it. Presentation of both dishes were good- but taste not good. Also a bit pricey.

I just love this place. The customer service is amazing and the food is very exceptional. There is a reason this place has been open for as long as it has. The only reason there is a star left out is because I feel the drinks are a little overpriced.

Was surprised to check this place's Yelp reputation only to find very mixed reviews of the food. I can't speak about anything on the menu other than the fries, but I just have to mention them because I'm sure that they're the last thing visitors would be likely to order at a Thai place. Seriously, best fries I've ever had in my life. Thick cut with a subtle taste of truffle, served with house made aioli and chili paste. This was two weeks ago and I'm still thinking about 'em.

Picture it: you, sitting with someone you love, (or alone is fine) in a shaded spot under the trees, next to a creek that is gently flowing by, eating great Thai food. The lunch on the deck is our favorite place in town in the summer. It is not always known when they will be open for lunch on the deck so call and ask. The food itself is very good and worth the trip. But lunch on the deck, can't beat it.

When plans elsewhere fell through, I wanted to try them as a backup plan- ambience, as always, was cozy & vibrant. The waitstaff was prompt, well-versed in the menu as well as the specials & definitely got me hooked on their homemade ginger ale lol, which had a nice kick without being too potent- just what the doctor ordered. The coconut chicken soup was molten, but elegant & delicious! It was naturally super sweet with a little salt aftertaste & the mushrooms floating around with the big chunks of chicken were a pleasant surprise. I certainly wasn't expecting the random stalk of lemongrass lol but it was certainly a familiar flavor I enjoyed (for a well-earned $8). Then there was the satay sampler- which I got with the chicken in peanut sauce, the tofu in sweet soy, & the vegetable medley also in peanut sauce (for $10). The chicken was seasoned well, perfectly cooked, as well as the vegetables. The peanut sauce was nice & spicy- & I loved the extra peanut crunch! The tofu had a nice crisp sear without getting too charred- & the sweet soy sauce was almost syrupy on top. I appreciated how everything came with a little cucumber salad & mound of rice. And to finish it all off, I also got their lime ice cream ^_^ It was a wonderful palette cleanser that helped soothe the tongue after the peanut sauce's heat! Only thing not so nice about it was finding the $8 tag after I had placed the order... Ah well, overall, it was a great experience, bringing the grand total- plus tax & tip, to a little over $36- not a great price, but well worth it!

Got here before 5 so it was still happy hour. That worked well as we could try a few small plates. The Thai lime salad was amazing. Satay was fantastic too.

The best for happy hour 5 to 6 pm. After 10pm and all day Mondays. The menu is wonderful and generous. My favorites include the Coconut soup, the chicken skewers with peanut sauce, and the crab rolls. So yummy. The establishment has a full bar and a classic yet casual atmosphere the view can't be beat. Sit in the window if you can and bring a friend.

We sat at the bar to order a drink and take out. Terrible attitude from the bartender, delicious drink, terrible food. The Pad Thai isn't really. Way over priced, slow to arrive and delivered with an attitude. I really wish I had looked at the reviews before we stopped in.

Decent food. Piss-poor service. Not very accommodating to young children. I like that they have gluten free options. Despite my dietary restrictions I found some food to eat. They use canola oil, which is better than peanut oil, but not my favorite. The calamari was nicely prepared, especially with the rice flour. When we arrived, there was about 10-15 people in the restaurant (mostly staff members). We were told about an upcoming rush and told to sit next to the kitchen. When the waitress did get around to checking on us, she kept apologizing about how this about-to-be-rush which was interfering with her ability to serve us NOW, for some reason????? The waitress tried, but seemed unable to help me find something for my young child to eat. He would have been happy with a plain bowl of rice. I was told they didn't offer that separately...so we got him these noodles he didn't like. Then we sat there and watched bowl after bowl of rice being served right in front of us, since the rice cooker was on the other side of the counter from my son. My older daughter loved her Pad Thai and it was for birthday, so I didn't complain to the staff while there. I fed my son when we got home. They gave me the wrong check when I was ready to go. Pretty incompetent service, though they do try. Very personable and friendly, just not professional. The waitress was super knowledgeable about the food they served, and did try the best she could, so I tipped 15%. The tip should have been more like 5%, honestly, but she seemed so upset about this about-to-be-rush I guess I felt sorry for her.

I've been here a few times now. The food is delicious. Service is great about half the time. The only issue I have are the weak drinks (for $10 each) I get every other time I go. Sometimes I can't taste any alcohol in my drink at all (I'm a light drinker and usually feel effects from one drink no matter where I am). Maybe they skimp on the alcohol during happy hour? Definitely go for the food and satay bar, though.

Food = horrible Service = amazing Drinks = good Price = $$$$ If it wasn't because of the amazing service I'd give this place a no stars. The food was really bad and a waste. The wings are beyond salty and no good flavor. My husband ordered chicken red curry and explained how bland it was. I had a bite and couldn't believe how bad it was. I had the Pad Thai with peanut sauce and prawns. It was really bad too and I have no idea how someone can mess up peanut sauce. Don't waste your money here. Too pricey and not worth it.

If you sit outside downstairs, cocktails come from a far away mysterious upstairs cavern. Which yes, translates to =wait FOREVER~~. Not our servers problem- she's lovely. But wow! Come on!

Absolutely LOVE Thai Pepper. If you are a fan of lamb, always ask your server what the special is because every time we have gone there we looked forward to their lamb specials which are absolutely phenomenal. The drinks and appetizers are great too!

Disclaimer: I'm not the hugest fan of Thai food. As someone who doesn't eat meat, I was initially apprehensive. There was exactly one item on the menu, unmodified, that I could have. However, they were very accommodating and transparent about which dishes could be made vegetarian/vegan (and if I remember correctly, gluten-free?) I had the Pan Fried Noodles with Prawns (wheat noodles marinated in soy sauce & sesame oil, pan fried and served with sherry peanut sauce & spinach, $19), with tofu substituted for the prawns. Service was a little slow, but unclear if that was because they were trying to serve everyone in my ~20-person group at the same time. My friends all seemed to enjoy their food. The little satay options were popular. Summary: huge, and thus relatively cheap, portions of good, vegetarian/vegan-friendly food.

Meh. Had reservations on a Saturday night and got seated at an outdoor table on the lower level overlooking a babbling brook and nice little park. Decor and ambiance were definitely the highlight of the experience. Service was friendly and well informed tho not especially attentive (took some serious work to get the waitress's attention after food was ordered.). My mom got the cashew vegetables which was delicious and full of fresh veggies not overcooked, albeit a bit over-salted. I tried the pan-fried noodles with sherry peanut sauce and spinach and tofu instead of prawns. It was disgusting. Slimy and greasy and mealy and super bland. Aside from the visible ground peanuts on top I would have sworn that nary a peanut had graced that dish. Probably my fault for not correctly interpreting the menu...but so unexpectedly bland! It wasn't that the flavor was unpleasant, there simply wasn't any flavor. We did complain and the waitress recommended the pad Thai instead and was nice enough to not charge us for the pan fried noodles. The pad Thai was very tasty, if not exactly traditional. No fish sauce and thinner (more Capellini type) noodles than I've had at other thai places. Added a star because they did try to replace the dramatically under-par entree with something more palatable, otherwise this would be a 2-star review.

Fantastic service (we sat downstairs) waiter was helpful and knowledgeable we had the tiger roll for an appetizer and yellow and green curry chicken dishes we shared... Thai iced tea creme brûlée was fantastic! We enjoyed this place for our 5th anniversary and will definitely be back! Thank you!

We ate there on December 28, 2014. We were seated downstairs. When we descended the stairs into a cloud of kitchen smoke, I commented on how smoky it was and the young lady who seated us said "well, we have a kitchen down here." Eventually, they turned on the AC or a fan or something and it got better. Thankfully, I asked about the Pad-Thai before I ordered it, because of the odd description in the menu. When I explained what I was used to with the Pad Thai, the waiter recommended that I not order the pad thai. So, I ordered something else. I ordered the friend noodles with prawns. The prawns were a bit overcooked and the entire dish was rather salty. My friend was unable to finish his garlic prawn dish because it was so salty, and the sauce was sparingly applied. The waiter said that the restaurant was really more Thai-Fusion. Not sure what that meant, but the results were disappointing. The food seemed a little slow to arrive. The only one of us that ordered something from the bar received it very late, and the waiter comped it because he was embarrassed at how long it had taken. If it wasn't for the great waiter we had, I would have given this place 1 star. I feel bad for the servers having to deal with a bad kitchen. I have to say that the tiger rolls were a very good appetizer, although they were a little pricey for the portion. My two friends and I decided that we were not coming back to Thai Pepper again. It's a shame, since we get to Ashland a couple times a year and were hoping we had found a good new restaurant.

tiger rolls are so amazing, same as tha crispy fish served with house made sweet chili sauce. Happy hour deals are bomb and the service is awesome! I've also had the pad thai and chicken satay which are also really good. It's a nice place to have a drink and eat dank food in a nice atmosphere. A bit pricy but that's what happens I guess when you have a restaurant in down town ashland. But prices don't phase me cuz da food good.

Courtesy of staff gets 5 stars, speed and quality of bar service gets 5 stars, speed of food service gets 1 star, quality of food gets 4 stars. Focusing on the last of these: I ordered the very original variation on pad Thai, which here features a very spicy and unique sauce (the sauce is rated from 1-4, and level 1 is quite fiery already!!), and ground chicken breast. The sauce and preparation left the dish somewhat overly salty, but otherwise very tasty, and the noodle selection was very tasty. An ample variety of ingredients, and accompanied by white jasmine rice, made this a solid 3.5. The meal was then elevated by a delicious flourless chocolate torte, which was delicious. Seating is elegantly casual, though I opted to take my meal home, and was surprised that I had to wait more than half an hour for the food.

Like many of the restaurants in the Ashland theater district, this has a tiny, selective menu, and it's yuppie-Thai, not real Thai. That said, a couple appetizers at the satay bar and an entree from the kitchen downstairs were tasty. My entree was shrimp with onions and mushrooms, and it mixed together very well. Not sure what to say about the service. It wasn't bad service: my food came, so did the bill, no problems, no insults, but the waiters give off a haughty and distracted air, as if they were grudgingly taking time off from the important task of learning lines for their auditions.

We headed out a bit late for dinner and stopped in here after our first choice was full. We ate at the satay bar upstairs, something we had not done before. It was a good choice. We ordered lamb satay. The lamb was tender enough and served with a peanut sauce. I particularly liked the sauce; it was not the usual sweet sauce, but had a spicy bite that worked well with the lamb. W also ordered the chickens won tons with curry sauce. It was good; Rebecca liked it better than I did. The sauce was good, but not as much curry flavor as I would have liked. We ordered the papaya salad with chutney, which was great, particularly the chutney. As you can see, this was a small plate meal at the bar. We had limited time and this was just perfect. Expectations met and exceeded. By the way, we split a half bottle of wine, which was just right for the time we had. It did not hurt it was Trimbach Gewurtztraminer, one of our all time favorites. If you have not tried the satay bar, give it a try. The food was very good and the service just right.

Granted, I've only been here twice, the food I've had on each occasion has been unexpectedly bland and flavored in such a way that I can only describe it as "White Man Thai." I apologize if that offends anyone. Rob, the Bartender was very nice, and it looked like he really knew his stuff. The waitstaff seemed friendly too. The first time I went here I ordered the Green Curry. It was flavorless with the exception of too many chillies and what only seemed like Coconut Milk. Not the usual burst of flavor I am accustomed to with excellent Thai Food. The second time I went here I ordered the Pad Thai. OMG! I am not kidding when I say this is the WORST Pad Thai I have ever tasted! I have not been to Thailand, but I have eaten Thai Food in 15 different states, Australia, and Canada, and an uncountable amount of restaurants. This Pad Thai is dry, bland, and uses Vermicelli Rice Noodles. It basically tasted like lime and soy sauce. The Tofu (I got the vegetarian model) tasted like it was cooked a couple days before and was thrown in as an afterthought. It had no sauce or flavor to it. I'm sorry to be writing this review as I so want a good Thai restaurant to appear in Southern Oregon, but alas, it eludes my taste buds. Have a drink at the bar and move on is my two-cents.

Just ok. The food wasn't bad but definitely not the best Thai I've had. The ambiance is alright and the service is good. I wouldn't jump through hoops to go back.

Me and the wife came here on our first date almost 20 years ago, and returned this weekend. Great service although I had to wait a bit longer for my mixed drink to come down from the bar. Tiger rolls were smaller than I remember, so I have to agree with the comments about small portions for what you pay (it was $19 for four tiny little guys). They were as tasty as ever, though. The Pad Thai noodles were different from what I'm used to, almost spaghetti noodles. They knew we were going to a play and like I said although it wasn't immediate, they took care of us and we had a great meal down by the creek. Call for reservations if you want to sit outside, or wait until the plays start at 8 and the restaurants empty out.
