Country Willows Bed & Breakfast

After a long drive from Portland, OR - anything more than 30 minutes is considered long for a Portlander. I was ready to peel myself out of my car seat and unfurl, stretch, relax, detox, unwind. I was ready for a lovely and memorably romantic weekend away with my lady. A lovely, romantic, and relaxing weekend was definitely what we experienced! First impressions: Tucked away on a hillside at the end of a quiet street just outside of the main strip in Ashland is Country Willows BnB. A lovely estate, that I could see as an artists retreat. The pictures on the website do not do the beauty of the surroundings or of the facilities justice. My senses were delighted w/ the beauty and serenity - just what the doctor ordered. In the lobby were decanters of Sherry, and Port Wine with dishes of raw almonds, and candies (I must admit that I imbibed a bit). Daniel was an incredible host - friendly, accommodating, and personal. This place was dialed in. BnB w/ a personal touch down to the finest detail (homemade organic granola, gourmet breakfasts that made my tongue burst into holy flames, my head swoon, and my tummy go gummy w/ delight).
The breakfasts were delicious, the beds cozy with amazing sheets and the innkeeper and owners gracious and welcoming. I would definitely come back to Country Willows, hopefully in the summer so I can take advantage of their outdoor pool.
So good we'll drive five hours. A couple months ago we were traveling to Ashland and just days before our trip the B&B we were going to stay at made a change to our reservation. This was on a holiday weekend so we were as the kids say, "Up s--- creek..." Fortunately country willows had a room available. Man oh man, are we glad we ended up here. It was so good we even came back for my wife's birthday. I love how every need is anticipated for you. Fresh coffee and tea in the common areas. Sunscreen and beach towels by the pool. Snacks and pastries in the main house and breakfast area. The hosts are very accommodating. I am perfectly happy conversing with strangers over breakfast, however for my wife she prefers to sleep in and enjoy breakfast at her leisure. Every morning when I walk in they have the tray ready for us and they ever remember that my wife is a vegetarian and has a nut allergy. Both times we stayed they remembered. Makes you feel a warm inside. They even remember when we like to have our room turned over. The breakfasts are amazing. Freshly prepared with seasonal ingredients. Also the food is beautifully presented. I'm never left hungry or wanting. I guess my only recommendation would be some sort of protein option for vegetarians on some of the days. We stay in the Sunrise suite. it is a gorgeous room with a big tub. It's perfect for a 100 degree day to just sit by the AC and watch some netflix on the chromecast. Sounds like my wife will gladly make the drive to stay at her new favorite place. Thank you for all the memories and we'll be seeing you again soon.

Excellent, friendly B&B. Owners are super-nice. Nice rooms, prettily decorated in sort of a Victorian mode, lots of personal touches. Breakfasts are excellent; we never need lunch after one of their breakfasts.
Thank you John and Sue for making the first night of our 2 week trip perfect! What a lovely home you have. The room was perfect, the bed and pillows so comfy, and the food was scrumptious! You are such welcoming hosts, with great attention to detail.
When you visit Ashland, OR you owe it to yourself to stay with Sue! Her B&B is beautiful and comfortable, but the star is Sue's graciousness, warmth, and hospitality. Breakfast is heavenly and the afternoon cookies will spoil you. And Sue is a truly kind, genuine dear soul. It feels like staying with family. Her staff (Ellen!) are spectacular.

We make it to Ashland about every other year and this was our third stay at Cowslip's Bell. Our hosts of several years earlier were still there and as friendly and welcoming as ever. We have stayed in the Gullivor Room in the main house and it was both private and convenient to the late night/early morning coffee and hot water. This time we stayed in the Garden Apartments in the back and they provided additional privacy and quiet. So there are clear advantages both ways. And the small stroll through their lovely garden and past the Koi Pond to the main house for breakfast was a lovely way to begin the day. The location is ideal for walking to the Shakespeare Festival play venues and it was an easy 20 minutes drive to Jacksonville's Brit Festival performance. Jon and Carmen are expanding their operation in the direction of vacation rentals, beyond the traditional B&B. But I do love their breakfasts. Each day of our stay there was a different, freshly made main item (Pecan waffles, fluffy omelets) in additional to fresh seasonal fruit, fresh juice, and excellent coffee. The number of repeat regular guests speaks for itself! Hard to go wrong here!!
I finally stayed here two weeks ago, but my parents have been coming here annually for their fill of the Shakespeare festival since (we calculated) at least 1996. And I do understand all the raving. Jon and Carmen are wonderful souls and fantastic hosts and cooks. When my parents both caught colds, they were nice enough to donate some cough drops and syrup to the cause. The place is walking distance to town, clean, cozy, and the yard is great. (The koi pond deserves its own five-star review.) I can't wait to start bringing my own family to stay here and see plays when my little one is old enough. If you do the B&B option, don't bother budgeting for lunch, because you won't need it. J&C, keep on keeping on. I hope I'll see you next year.
This place is awesome. First of all, they get about 100 points for allowing my dog to stay. Hard to find pet friendly places, and they are, so yay! They're really conveniently located on a quiet street about a block or two from the main drag. My room was ADORABLE. I stayed in the Upper Suite (or something like that) and it was spacious and cozy. I did it as a vacation rental, so I never saw/met the owners nor did I have breakfast there, but I still felt quite cared for. The little kitchen was stocked with tea and there was a hot water tap (!!!!). There was biscotti and some sherry near the fireplace. The room was filled with really interesting stuff to read. There was a jacuzzi tub. A great deck. Seriously--I didn't know where to start, nor did I want to leave. And everything was spotlessly clean. Can't say enough good things about this place.

This is a perfect inn for your Ashland weekend! We will definitely make this an annual trip and stay here again! Francesca, the innkeeper, is so passionate about her inn, and it shows in the cleanliness and excellent food and goodies. Keep up the great work, and we will be back soon!
Luscious breakfasts, responsive hosts, comfortable rooms, picturesque location convenient to the theatre...this is a most wonderful inn. Josh and Francesca are personable, professional, kind hearted, generous and attentive. Yummy cookies too. Enjoy your stay.
Bayberry INN B&B Traveling to Oregon and points beyond we frequently stay in Ashland. Not necessarily for the Shakespeare Festival but usually just for the great food and some R&R. Recently we found ourselves heading that way and I started calling some of our favorite places to stay. Guess what ? everything was booked... I found the Bayberry Inn and was happy to find that they recently had three cancellations. As luck would have it we were traveling with two other couples. The Bayberry had three rooms all downstairs and it perfectly fit our needs. The covered front entry leads you directly into the Living Room which is spacious and has a comfortable seating area facing an in wall fireplace. The Dinning area flows through and out onto the rear deck, which is perfect for the morning Sun and the afternoon shade. We found ourselves having wine and cocktails out there most evenings. Our three rooms were all on this level and situated just far enough apart that you felt very private. The owners (Dermot and Sally) prepare a yummy breakfast each morning with a variations of Yogurt parfaits, fresh fruit, eggs, French Toast, Coffee, Juice and cinnamon toast. The Bayberry is only a short distance from the heart of town on the north end of Main Street. The walk is easy but does take about 15 minutes. We Highly recommend giving them a try the next time you find yourself heading that way...... I posted a few photos.

I was a first time visitor to Ashland and looking for a comfortable place to stay. I had never stayed at a B&B so I thought I'd try. It was a wonderful experience! The new owners, Julie and JP were incredible! The breakfast was soooo good (e.g., fruit parfait AND eggs Benedict-the best I'd ever had). The inn was very clean, they left out port for after our play and a delicious treat (lemon bars) and chocolate for a late snack. It was an overall incredible stay, so inviting and great meeting the other guests. I'll definetly be back in the future..Highly reccomend!
I have stayed here three different times. Stayed at the outside house (a complete house with everything in it) and in two of the rooms. Excellent breakfast. A lovely older home converted to a B&B. We walked to the festival just about a mile. It really is a nice place to stay.
This was one of our best B&B experiences, ever ! Jean-Pierre and Julie did a magnificent job in preparing the most scrumptious breakfasts, complete with delicious freshly-brewed (locally ground and roasted) coffee and tree fresh orange juice, and served outside on the garden surrounded patio ! Oh, did I mention the daily, freshly baked cookies or fruit bars that were set out in the main house for "nibbles" on your way through ?! Our room was delightful, and to quote David B's review on this page...."Clean, clean, sparkling clean." And the hospitality....absolutely outstanding....Jean-Pierre and Julie made you feel at home, and a part of the family the minute you walked through the door. You will enjoy everything about your stay at the Blue Moon, I have no doubt whatsoever !

Possibly the nicest B&B I have stayed at and I have been in plenty. The food, the decor, the gardens and the quiet were just what I wanted. The owners are generous and friendly.
What a wonderfut bed and breakfast! Just got back from the first of what, I am now sure, will be my many stays at Hersey House. It's heaven. Some practical tidbits: It's about a 10 minute walk to the theatres, if you're in Ashland to see plays, there are rooms for two or three people, and one cottage for a larger group or family. It's a little less expensive than most of the other bed and breakfasts in the area, and is really not much further to the theatres. Some details that make it 5-stars: *The breakfast. When do you ever have a multi-course breakfast?! The breakfast was spectacular - we would have paid at least $20 each to have it in a restaurant. It changes daily, but today it was freshly baked cinnamon scones and coffee/tea, followed by a chilled chai latte with chocolate and bananas, follwed by an herbed egg dish served with cajun-spiced potatoes and chicken apple sausage. *Lorraine - the proprietor was so accomodating and welcoming! She communicated with me via email, and was so gracious. She let us check in early, with no hassles, and she was interested in getting to know guests, while allowing for privacy, too. *Comfort. The rooms were impeccably clean and comfortable. We were the only guests there (midweek and still not quite high season) so I got to see all of the rooms! The beds were comfortable, and the bathrooms had great amenities for a B&B: tons of towels and washcloths, basic toiletries, and other little comforts like haridryers, q-tips, and cotton pads. The room had reading lamps, coat pegs, a suitcase stand... the sorts of hotel details that can be missing in houses. Hersey House also has the standard B&B common areas with a piano, games, books, etc. and a common dining table for breakfast. I really can't say enough great things about this place - definitely try booking a room here if you'llbe in Ashland.
This has become our favorite place to stay in Ashland. It's within easy walking distance of downtown, the rooms are comfortable, the breakfasts are very good, and, most of all, there is no pretense, just genuine comfort and freindliness. This is what a B&B should be,

I really enjoyed this place. Our room was clean and quite large with 2 beds. They have a nice little pool, hot tub and backyard for sitting out and enjoying the sun. Their fuzzy orange cat Buster (who also enjoys laying in the yard) is more than willing to keep you company. Breakfast was quite tasty, with a different fruit dish, smoothie, some baked item and a main dish each morning. The owners are quite friendly and helpful and the other guests were pleasant as well. This place is a few blocks from the main streets- not a bad distance at all, although its a bit hilly so folks who can't walk too well would need to drive. They also have solar panels installed, cookies in the cookie jar and a small guest fridge.
Visited the inn last week while checking out SOU. Don and Deanna are terrific hosts and what is best is that they open their living room and library to all guests. Beautiful yard and wonderful room. And if by some chance, you are a closet Trekkie, you are in for a real treat!
Large, quiet bnb, away from the main drag but I my 15 min from Oregon Shakespeare Festival theaters. Breakfasts are simple, yet elegant. A new standard for bnbs!

Nicest place I've ever stayed, plus only two short blocks from the theatres. My mom and I luxuriated in the Carriage House South (second building behind the main house). Our room was small and tidy with a large main bed and twin size bed in the nook under the stairs that go up to the carriage house north unit. We made friends with the folks above is which is always useful if you are trying to sleep under a staircase (the stairs are carpeted which helps, but you will hear the comings and goings--and water usage--of the folks upstairs.) The room was well appointed, the linens clean and luxuriously soft, the pillows plentiful. I usually avoid B&Bs because as a shift worker, I pretty much always sleep through the breakfast hours and can't be bothered to adhere to a strictly timed breakfast window. But after enjoying a takeway mango lassi and corn muffin sent from heaven I got up early enough for breakfast the rest of our stay! Breakfast was only 8:30-9:30 but absolutely worth the effort of getting up early. We also enjoyed an in-house dinner Friday night. Sorry I didn't take any photos of that (or the actual breakfasts, sorry, was too busy enjoying the deliciousness!) because it was a treat. And even came with an accompanying poem from the chef. Also of delicious note all hours: unique sherry to sample in the parlor, coffee and tea and fruit-infused water, and house-baked delicious treats like gluten free macaroons and date bars which went VERY well with a cuppa afternoon tea. In addition to the fabulous food and cut-above lodgings, the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff could not have been any better. Everyone encountered was pleasant and more than happy to help with every question (and we had so many...) and really went above and beyond to make our visit in Ashland truly exceptional. We asked for a tour on our last day and should have done that the first day! We got a very thorough and knowledgeable discussion of the social and architectural history of the building, owners, and residents, and even got to peek into those rooms which were not inhabited. Tour definitely best done after check out time, before evening check in time when rooms are most likely to be vacant! I will be saving up my pennies to stay here again and try a different room! Each one seems like a totally different (but all very lovely) experience.
We had the great privileged of being able to have brunch at the McCall House. First of all, a beautiful and historic home near downtown and the OSF theaters. Lovely interior and the service was excellent. Now let's discuss the wonderful food. Tables set up around the downstairs rooms, we shared a table with a lovely pair of visitors. Chocolate zucchini muffins awaited us, juice was offered and then toast and bacon and guacamole. Beautiful plates of chilliquillas (eggs with salsa, cheese and corn chips) appeared in front of us. More coffee. I found room for a second muffin somehow. The staff are so nice, warm, welcoming and have a great amount of local historical knowledge. Thank you!
One of the best B&B's I've ever stayed at. Everything was beyond expectation, and Daniel, the Inn Keeper, treated us like VIP's. There's a very warm and welcoming atmosphere to this historical home, not to mention great food and wine. Breakfast was gourmet and Daniel made wonderful suggestions about what to do around town. We will definitely be coming back when we return to Oregon.
