Great place, nice people, yummy food, super big menu. We eat here fairly often. The vegetarian Tom Kha Mushroom Soup is da bomb. The prices are not great, but not terrible either. 4 1/2 Stars.

Coming from an area with lots of authentic Thai, I was disappointed by the food here. I asked for my pumpkin chicken curry to be "3" from 1-5 spicy and it was almost so hot I couldn't eat it (and I normally love spicy). There was barely any chicken in my curry and the pumpkin was not very flavorful...just spicy. I might come back and give it another try because my friends enjoyed their meals...but I didn't have a great experience this time.

This place is very close to work for me so I was hoping it would be good, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was! I ordered the pad Thai with chicken lunch special which comes with a little salad and a little spring roll as well and it was $9.44... Good portion size and very delicious. The noodles were perfect and the sauce was soooo good. They go from 1-5 on the spice scale if you ask about the spice level. I got a 1 just because I wanted to make sure I tasted my food as Thai hot is different than regular hot. The spice level was perfect to match the sweetness the sauce can have. Overall a great dining experience and I will for sure be going back, a lot.

Had the best Thai food experience. I'd have to say this place is mind blowing! So give it a shot and I'm sure you'll be pleased as I once was.

Absolutely wonderful! Just got back from Thailand and this is the only restaurant comparable to the real deal. Staff is wonderful. The vegetarian options are plentiful and the red curry pumpkin dish is outstanding. GO HERE!

Best Thai food in Ashland Lived in Ashland for about 16 months. While in the Rogue Valley, I had a desperate quest to find any good Asian food. We're talking a major dearth there. The difficulty of finding sticky white rice was on par with finding the Temple of Doom. House of Thai was it. Their curries were actually spicy, provided you ask them for "5 spicy" heat level. Very flavorful dishes. Service is slow, but the staff is very nice. Drinks can be a bit pricey and overall cost is a little high for lunch. Otherwise would rate it "5 stars". Oh, and be careful pulling out from the parking lot. I saw a few near-accidents.

Last time eating here! And this is coming from a local Ashlander who's been eating here since 1992. At 4pm we were the only people in the restaurant and when we requested the music be changed from Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture to anything else, we were told "The owner is here". Other options like changing CD's or turning it off were dismissed. The rude service coupled with prices being comparable to other Thai Food Restaurants in the area makes our decision simple. Laa Korn ( ) or "Good bye Forever". However, if you are looking for a great place to commemorate Russia's defense of Moscow against Napoleon's advancing Grande Armée at the Battle of Borodino in 1812 this is your place. Perhaps they would be willing to turn it up. Make sure you mention this article to Phil the owner.

Coming from Seattle (land of excellent Asian food), I'm probably being picky. House of Thai is decent -- yummy and satisfying, but boring and bland sometimes. Restaurant always feels a little cold/empty so we usually get takeout. Given the limited selection of delivery Asian food in Ashland, we have fallen back on House of Thai a few times, but it's not our go-to dinner place. I usually get the veggie steamed rice with fried tofu and a side of peanut sauce when we order - yummo :)

Enjoyed the most savory red curry and pad thai with friends who all wanted to lick the plates ---it was that YummmmmY!!!! And then the mango-sticky rice dessert came and we all agreed----we'll be back again, craving for some more! Thank you House of Thai!!! You made three women very happy tonight!!!

Great find. Curry was delicious and this is coming from an SF native well versed in thai food

Just OK... hard to find good vegetarian options as we don't eat average industrial meat. Pad Thai had too much sauce... too sweet. One of those 10-page hard to navigate menus.

We were driving from California to Portland for a road trip. Stopped by here to have lunch. I have to say their food is Not bad! Honestly, the food is probably a 3 to 3.5. However, since we weren't expecting good food from here, their food actually exceeded our expectation. We ordered the Phad eggplant (good), beef Penang (good) and salmon Penang (great)! I was surprised that their salmon is quite tender and flavorful. You know sometimes you can get very dry and plain salmon even from a big national chain restaurant. We also had their tom yum soup. A bit sweet and less spicy. But not bad at all.

I have been visiting Ashland for over 25 years and this place has been here most of that time. It's a landmark on your long stretch going north on Siskiyou Blvd (try and take exit 11), into the heart of Ashland. Honestly we came here because we needed an early dinner place and these guys open at 4pm for dinner. The Dinner menu is very large and has lots of interesting dishes, lots of curries and specialty plates and we had two such specialties. I had a BBQ duck breast saute' with lots of onions and fried basil on top, it was Good! My son had a Orange Chicken which was tender and well flavored, Also Good! My mom chose a shrimp and bacon dish with silver bean noodles off the specialties menu, Also Good, maybe a bit dry, but the flavors were unique! Nothing was amazing, like 5 stars worthy, although we had very tender fried calamari with a spicy plum dip to start us out, and it was really delicious, and my son inhaled this. I would come back and try some Curry dish because the menu is packed with Curry options, and the table next to us were enjoying these. House of Thai feels like a Thai authentic experience, and if that's your goal you should give it a try.

Just had dinner here tonight - I must say, it was delicious! I haven't eaten here I quite some time due to the belief that their prices were a bit high & the food quality didn't reflect the cost. Truthfully, the prices are reasonable. Though, the portion of the stir fry we ordered was pretty small, it was incredibly tasty & everything we ordered was fresh & made to order. Very pleased. My friend said it was the best pahd Thai in the valley, & he knows his Thai food well. The boba Thai tea smoothie was refreshing & perfectly sweet. Our server was attentive & accommodating. The only thing was that by the end of our meal, she kind of disappeared & I had to pay up front, but I didn't mind, I just wasn't sure if I should wait or not. No biggie - will be back to have a lunch special soon!

Definitely good food, had the Yellow Curry with chicken... excellent! Nice ambiance too.

  • Kevin A.

Yellow curry was good but other meals we ordered felt overpriced and underspiced Pad Thai overcooked and bland. There aren't a lot of Thai options in the SOU area so we settled and were disappointed. Employees had a demeanor that reflects it may not be the best place to work.

Had a hankering for Asian food on our way home from Cali. Saw a sign advertising this place so decided to give it a try. The dishes we tried were tasty enough, but nowhere near the best Thai I've ever had. Also, the portions were small. I don't think there was even 3 oz total of chicken in the cashew nut dish we tried. It was mostly onions.

We're from the South Bay in California and we know our Thai food. The ambiance of the restaurant is comfortable and cultural, and the staff is pleasant. The food is tasty and spicy (for medium) but some of the dishes had smaller portions (such as the orange chicken). I think their specialty is Thai dishes. The blend of spices and the freshness of the seafood, meats and vegetables was done well. The black rice isn't for everyone but we enjoyed it with our dishes. The trout dish didn't do it for me but the seafood and curry were delicious. I would recommend this restaurant if you are seeking Thai food during your travels.

Very good meal. The place is nice and service is friendly. Menu is varied and everything fresh and flavorful. Very good portions. To get a fifth star they'd need to lower prices by about 15%. But the portions are big enough for two. Lunch prices look great! Vegan friendly.

My wife and I used to eat here often. But we hadn't been there for at least 5 years. After reading the reviews I was a little reluctant but it was our 33rd Anniversary and we wanted to try it again. The service was lacking a bit. The only waitress on duty with 5 tables occupied stayed busy but never checked on us. When the food came out, no one asked how it was or if we needed anything. The food was great. Just as we remembered it and we will be going back. I will recommed this place to others. Food is subjective. Every restaurant will receive good and bad reviews. No one has the same taste.

Really yummy soup. This is the best oriental food in Ashland 4 sure.

Large family gathering...service was ok for big group but food was nasty. One dish had a hair and another a nut...not peanut, nut as in nut and bolt! Dry and cold chicken dishes. Won't return....and yes, I did watch my children as suggested by welcome sign

I'm sorry, but we had a really unfortunate experience here tonight. I have eaten here 3 times in the past, always while traveling through, and loved it. What's changed? The menu prices are higher, the music was MUSAK Santana, and my chicken was under-cooked. Yuck! Not to return. Sorry. UPDATE: I got realllly bad food poisoning from the under-cooked chicken. I alerted the County Health Department and I hope that they took some action. Totally unacceptable.

House of Thai Cuisine was delicious. We stopped in Ashland on a road trip up to Portland, and needed a break from fast food- luckily we found this restaurant. The Thai iced tea was nice and sweet, the curry and pahd Thai noodles were pleasant. I personally appreciated the service, and their take out took almost no time at all considering it was dinner time. Overall I would definitely return!

The owners, a family, you're inclined to assume, are genuinely Thai. The servers are super sweet, so, so meek and kind and ESL that you feel terrible for denying them anything, even if it's 'oh no, no more water, but thanks.' The decor follows the feeling of genuine Thai. Koi pond and statues out front. Shrine to ancestors when you first walk in. Everything kinda fancy in intent and gritty in execution. So then the food...you know how when you're STARVING, whatever you eat is like THE most DE-licious thing you've ever had? And you know (well now you do) how Thai food is like my FAVORITE go-to comfort food EVER? So at House of Thai, even starving enough to gnaw off my own arm, even seeing it as an oasis after 6 hours of driving, not caring a smidge about that pesky Ashland restaurant tax, the food is... it's fine... it's... it's just fine. No, no really, it's fine.

the pad thai is fine, service is fine. a lovely front landscape visible out the front windows makes my happy. all the dishes we have ordered could use more vegetables is my only complaint. i wish they would offer food to go in paper containers. we live one block away and would order all the time. the canned asian music is tedious and pointless. i would prefer the loud 1812 overture. very nice fishtank, which all asian restaurants should have.

Coming from California, it's hard to find delicious authentic Thai food in Oregon. However, House of Thai satisfies my craving. I always have to stop by every time I visit Ashland.

The Flavors were really strong! Excellent curry, good service. The main thing lacking was a good atmosphere-- but atmosphere doesnt go on your tongue, so I'd definitely go back!

I live in Ashland and like to go to places away from the downtown plaza because of the crowds, but this is the exact opposite! Don't worry about a wait to be seated, for some reason this place never has more than a few people in it! Maybe it is because we go during the week-days and evenings. Food is good, but not excellent. Servings not large but fair enough. No brown rice was available. A bit pricey but not uncommon it seems for a Thai dish. Mild IS bland. I am spice sensitive but don't ask for mild curry unless you want no spice. Good all around fare and many choices, so I wouldn't direct away, but nothing I can rave about. Also, perfect if you have a disability because you can enter very easily with their slopped entrance. (I had a broken foot once so I know!). Easy parking. Koi pond in front. Quiet large dining room area. Kept clean and orderly. Service has been fine, the 3 times we have been there. We go if we want a quick Thai fix and no crowds.

I returned to the "House of Thai Cuisine" in Ashland, OR on 8/11/2012 and had dinner (by the way, their dinner hours begin at 4:00 rather than the normal 5:00). I had another great meal an great service. A must when you go to Ashland.

Quickly seated and served. Pot stickers hot and fresh. Tom kah soup was superb...better than others I have tried. Phad tai chicken was yummy and phad steam veggies were right. Service was fine and attentive, without hovering. Had a fine overall experience.

I live right down the street from here & usually eat there 2-3x a month. After traveling extensively throughout Thailand on several separate visits I can honestly say that the House of Thai can make a delicious traditional entree. I have several favorites that I would recommend to anybody who is looking for a mild to medium spicy dish. My utmost favorite are the E-San noodles....lovely thin rice noodles with shrimp & chicken bits. After that, I recommend the sweet coco-nutty BBQ duck in red curry. Oooo la la! And of course the sizzling plate of BBQ duck with rice. And don't deny the Thai iced tea, ask them to make it with coconut milk. The portions are adequate leaning toward the larger side. There is a striking saltwater fish tank that is very nice to view also. Expect the waitresses to be grumpy, I think they're over-worked.

everyone I was with liked there food. best Thai Ive had in Ashland (which isn't saying much). service was fine, not sure what other people are being so fussy about.

My husband and I decided to celebrate our Anniversary by taking a road trip to Ashland, OR. We stopped here for lunch on a Monday so it was extremely quiet, only us and another party. The service was fast (probably because we were the only ones in there) and the food quite good. My husband had a beef dish with basil, green onions and peppers with steamed rice and an egg roll. I had the orange flavored chicken with stir-fried mixed veggies, fried rice, soup and cucumber salad. We both found our dishes to be very good. The waitress wasn't the warmest person in the world but if you smile at her, say please and thank you and a few "honey" and "darlin's" thrown in for good measure you might get her to smile when you leave. They have a nice front garden area with a little fish pond, and a nice view of the hillsides that surround Ashland. All in all our experience was good.

Not so good. I ordered several items, they were all bland and uninspired. Did I say "Hold the flavor?" I think not. There are better places downtown.

Had dinner here last night at the recommendation of a friend whose judgment is now very much in question! I asked for the cheap eats and good Thai in Ashland and was misdirected to a place where 4 frozen Krab-with-a-K egg rolls (we call it crab rangoon in Detroit and is usually hand made FRESH) cost 10.50 and Tom Ka soup costs 11.50 (but serves, like, almost, two people and comes in a big pot explains the waitress). At least the entrees were good. Not great, but good. Better value - and food - right downtown at Thai Pepper.

Had a good meal here. We had the chicken larb to start, which was extremely generous and good tasting. Entrees were both good too - sweet and sour chicken (not really thai-ish, but what we felt like) and an excellent eggplant based dish (highly recommended). I remember the menu was like a novel - almost too much selection (I'm still not sure why they listed out the vegetarian dishes seperately - they seemed largely the same as the meat based ones, just with tofu). We did ask for non-deep fried tofu and they apparently cannot do that because their tofu is all frozen - that seemed a bit odd for a thai place (and tofu being pretty cheap and long-lasting in the fridge, and will last forever when purchased in those tetra packs). But the dessert made up for all of that - mango sticky rice. Oh my gosh, the best dessert I've had in a very very long time (and certianly the best mango sticky rice I've ever had). +1 star just for that.

As longtime locals we've been here a few times, but last night was the end. After a long wait, the very young waitress brought my husband's meal. It began to cool so he ate it. Mine didn't come. I counted 9 empty tables. People came and left with takeout. My husband went up to the station to inquire about my dinner and was told that it was cooking. Phad Thai. Big deal. After a total of 40 minutes my plate arrived, just when I was getting ready to leave. I was hungry so I ate it. The very young waitress was clueless. She didn't seem to get it, to notice that anything was amiss. We gave her a $2 tip on a $45 bill. I think that she must have given my dinner to someone else.

I see that some of the reviews are not the best for this place, but my roommate and I love it. The food is good and it is close to SOU, which is where I go to school. It's not the cheapest Thai place that I've been to, but the portions are big and I have consistently had delicious food.

  • Rand M.

OK, not great. Pumpkin curry was a hit, and tasted fresh and was neither too sweet or creamy. Pad that seemed a bit too much like spaghetti in tomato sauce (!), which was tasty but, um weird. The fresh rolls were a big disappointment: fell apart, and the plum sauce was bland and a rather dingy color. Prices reasonable; lunch looked like a good deal. Very nice setting, and a good place to go that is off the theater path.

Worst asian food in ASHLAND, OR. Drunken Noodle SUCKS big time, the noodle is old like couple days ago. Pineapple fried rice sucks. NO Chicken Satay. Roast Duck taste like yesterday left over.

  • Steven K.

Don't let the spirit house in the front of the restaurant fool you. I wouldn't call this restaurant authentic Thai. It's more like "Thai-inspired" food. The food is good, but Ashland had so many other restaurants that are really great.

Best reasonably priced asian food in Southern Oregon. The pad thai is always excellent, the tofu with asparagus is great. You really can't go wrong here. Very traditional. Good local spot.
