We were staying here in Ashland overnight. This place was close to our hotel. All three of us ordered Carne Asada. Our son had it in a quesadilla and my husband and I in burritos. It was fatty, gristly and un-chewable. It was extremely unappetizing. The other downside of our experience was the service. A soccer game between Mexico and Portugal was on. Our waiter was more interested in the game than working.

Eh, slow, greasy and cold - not a great combo for Mexican. About the only thing going for it is the patio so my dog could join me. Staff was friendly enough but not very attentive - could be due us being outside. I'm sure there has to be better around here somewhere.

Pretty good but not great. About as good as it gets in Ashland sadly. I will still come back when I am in the mood for Mexican but don't get your hopes up

Great for large groups! We had 3 families (a lot of kids) meet up for dinner and the "banquet room" was perfect! Enough space for the kids to sit together, while the adults hung out. I think this will become our monthly hangout. Food was excellent and the staff was friendly too!

Our first time in this restaurant, and I promise next time we are in Ashland we will eat here again. I ordered the crab enchiladas which were out of this world excellent and delicious. Hubby had his go to dish, which is Chile Verde. How good was everything? Well if we could we would give them 10 stars instead of the five allowed. We started with fresh, hot chips. Those were served with hot refried bean con queso and salsa. Both were excellent. The service was absolute perfection. Everything was just so good. We will be back!

We stopped for lunch on our way from SF to Albany. The staff is genuinely friendly which ads to the nice atmosphere. The guacamole was very fresh. Also my fish and beef tacos were tasty

The beer is ice cold, the tamales and guacamole are tasty, the outdoor patio is comfortable, the service is fast and friendly. Every time we come here we leave happy. Oh yes, the prices are very reasonable. A great respite right off the I-5.

Quick, friendly service. Awesome chips and salsa. Full bar. Large, tasty portions. Would come again. Kid friendly and nice decor.

Food was mediocre at best, but the service was so bad I will definitely never stop here again.

Great! Open slightly later than other restaurants and walking distance to the Best Western and Holiday Inn Express. This place is great! Chili Relleno burrito? Awesome! Full bar - yes. Big portions. Great service, offering us extra plates, refills and such before we thought of them. Even if this wasn't next to our hotel - great. Coming from Southern California this is good mexican at a good price. I'm surprised at the other reviews. It's not fancy Mexican but it's solid, well seasoned & yummy.

  • Dominic L.

It was OK. Not great Mexican food but not bad either. Price was good. Service was friendly.

  • Dale B.

Great service very friendly. The food was very good too. Just an all around good experience!

  • Gali M.

The food is ok, nothing is to great. But the service is very slow. I came with two kids, and they let us to wait for almost forty minutes just to take an order. Later the kids deserts never came, when I mention it, it was no apologies . And it was 2 pm, not the hot lunch time.

  • Sean M.

Despite some of the other reviews, the food is actually quite good even if it is Americanized Mexican. The prices are inexpensive, so paying an extra couple bucks for what is really good salsa is inconsequential. I had the enchiladas camaron, my dad had the asada burrito and our friend had the Mexican pizza. Everyone's dish came out hot and fast despite the fact that the place was fairly busy. The food was delicious and not over-salted nor bland. The $6.95 margaritas were good and inexpensive as well. Will happily return!

  • Mogley J.

Hm I have never had a bad experience here, so I don't understand the bad reviews. The owner is a really nice guy, and the food is good for what it is. If you want authentic Mexican food, go to an authentic Mexican restaurant. This is Americanized Mexican food, but it is good americanized Mexican food.

  • Mark O.

A thoroughly pedestrian offering of Americanized favorites. Service was ok, food came out slowly. It would do in a pinch.

  • Chon M.

They are a bit pricey for Americanized Mexican food. Also, If you buy anything (even an entree), they will only give you a small container of a very mild pico de gallo for free. If you want something spicier (they have chipotle, habanero, and other salsas) they will charge you an extra 2.99! for a small container of it. The guy acted upset when I said I didn't have an extra 3 bucks to blow on a tiny plastic container of salsa. Never again! Go to La Tapatia in Phoenix instead. It's authentic, delicious, and they have an impressive salsa bar where you can drape your tacos in whichever kind of salsa you would like for free...y'know, like it should be!

My husband have come here twice. The service is great and the food is pretty good. The burrito my husband ordered was probably a foot long! They allowed me to special order my tostada with shrimp and it was delicious!

This is the best family Mexican restaurant in Ashland. Margaritas are great, food is great, service is exceptional. Will custom make anything for us vegetarians - re-fried beans are vegetarian too. Can't get any better.

Almost didn't stop here because of some of the other reviews, but I'm really glad I did. chicken fajitas had sizzlin strips of breast meat and that perfect charred- caramelized thing going on with the onions and peppers. Guacamole was awesome and fresh. This ain't some authentico taco joint. It's Tex Mex, folks. The food is well seasoned but not too spicy, the plate is covered in cheese, the iceberg salad has croutons from a box and ranch dressing, and the margaritas are giant and strong and way too sweet.... Just what you want at a tex mex place. Embrace it- it's exactly what it's supposed to be- and they do it right here.

We stopped here while on vacation and it was New Years Eve, so we thought it might be a bit crowded. We got here early enough to get seated quickly and the wait staff was excellent. I had their seafood enchilada and was very pleased. I will definitely plan on stopping here on my next trip through the area.

Stopped here on vacation. The service was horrendous! We waited so long that I asked for our waiter after I finished the basket of chips. We waited 10 more minutes for our waiter to show up and then we got up and left. As we walked out the door the person we asked to get our waiter stood silent. The person who was waiting on other tables near us made sure to give us " adios amigos".

Food was like Azteca. It was good. My husband said the drinks were great from the bar. They don't hold back on the alcohol. They had an American part of the menu with burgers and other food. My youngest daughter enjoyed that. Portions were large, two can share, allot of food was thrown away. Right next door to our hotel, there was nothing else close by that we saw was open. Not bad for a quick meal. Located off I-5, exit 14.

From California, so I have access to lots of inexpensive and very good Mexican food. I also don't say anything negative about a place unless I'm really sure, because I don't like high-maintenance people who seem to write bad reviews just for the snark of it. But this is not very good food. The mole was actually bland, and I don't like very spicy food. We had a lovely waiter who was having a bit of an off day--I don't think they have enough staff--but he was fun and sweet and gave us a free dessert for our troubles. The chocolate cake was to die for, though. Definitely the highlight of the meal. Highlight was it was within walking distance of our hotel. Keep your expectations low and you might get lucky. A place to go if you're tired of the ubiquitous hipster Asian fusion in Ashland. Nice relaxing atmosphere.

Despite the slow service due to not enough wait staff, we were very happy with the overall experience. We've been looking for good Mexican food in Ashland since we moved here, and we finally found it! It's kind of off the beaten path for an Ashland restaurant--near exit 14 off of I-5 hidden behind a gas station. Ordered fajitas for two and server allowed us to choose two meats (steak and shrimp) and also allowed us to have both flour and corn tortillas. The steak was tender and tasty--shrimp was well-cooked (boy, do I have another review to write about uncooked shrimp; but my wife forbids me from writing it b/c she likes the offending restaurant), and came with a plate of rice, beans, generaous amount of guac, sour cream, and little bit of lettuce and cheese. It was delicious and left us both very full. We also ordered the kid's meal, which comes with a drink and a dessert, and on Sundays, was priced at $2.95! There were all sorts of other specials listed--$1 taco Wednesdays being the only one I remembered. The restaurant is plenty large and has nice decor. We'll definitely be going back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
