I thought to write a review update for this place, because I decided to go and try their food again and see if I would get a different experience. And as it turns out, yes, my second visit here was a pretty difference experience. And after reading the other reviews, I wanted to try their tacos with the pork and pineapple and I have to admit, wow, this time was really, really delicious, was very tasty, so we ordered more. Then we tried the chips and salsa and this time the salsas were the real stuff, very good!!. Then we were offered a dessert, which was fantastic, a home made flan that reminds me of the desserts I use to get when I go to Mexico, so real stuff, the service was very good as always. I think I have to admit that this place really is authentic, and focus on the quality of the ingredients and details. Yes prices are still very high, but that does not change the fact that their menu has quality and is good, and they deserve 5 stars, next time I want to try their pizza, it may be a delicious surprise!!

I seriously don't know why they don't have info, but hands down this is the best upcoming Mexican restaurant. It's better than ochoa's and don chilitos which is down the street. They actually grill the meat outside so it is as authentic as it gets. They are really clean compared to other Mexican restaurants in the area. In addition they're customer service is great they attend you right away and explain the specials and what they consist of.

The food here is fantastic! Tried every kind of taco and they're all delicious! The salsa is great and it's home made by the owner. The owner takes pride in the food he makes, you can just tell. All made fresh! Very affordable prices as well. My family and I have found our new go to Mexican Restaurant, one we will come back to again and again!

This is the best Mexican food around. The meats are amazingly tasty especially since they are grilled right out front on a bbq, the sauces and salsas are obviously made with care, and there is always a friendly face working. We consider ourselves regulars at this point. We have to go at least one a week. Must try. This is one of those hidden gems that everyone wants to find.

Was miffed that they were not open at 11am as advertised, but, I'm glad I tried it later in the day. I did all 4 types of tacos, very very delicious. Smokey flavor in all of them but not obnoxious like you sometimes find. Awesome green sauce. Guacamole on the side i requested awesome. Will be my taco place from here on.

I moved from LA, and this place takes care of my craving for King taco. Owner is super nice.

I've started bringing friends to experience this incredible little restaurant. The tacos are so good it's ridiculous. We've had the carnitas which is amazingly tender with a good smoky background. Topped with their avocado based green salsa it's the best taco I've had outside of Mexico. We've also had the chicken tacos and the sopes. Chicken in grilled and very tasty and the sopes are big soft and piled high with black beans, lettuce, onions, cilantro and drizzled with crema - very delicious. Service is provided by one the two brothers running this place and is like having a friend serve you. Prices are really very reasonable. Went with five last night - had a feast of tacos, sopes and drinks. Under $50 including tip (for everyone). Highly recommend this place to anyone. Worth the drive over. One issue: Only open Thursday - Sunday. So we plan our week around getting there on of those days.

Food was out of this world! Best shrimp tacos my husband has ever had. Price was great. Service was excellent! We are making this place a regular!

Got the AL pastor burrito. $7.95 delicious burrito. You can taste the freshness. Gave me a free lemonade! Definitely returning and recommended.

Happened to run into this place after getting some dentistry work done in the medical plaza next door around lunch time. Boy am I glad I stopped in on an lark. Whoever says the meats are tastefully prepared is true. They cook it out front on a grille. I could eat all the entrees without any hot sauce because the flavor of the meat comes through. My dining mate had some healthy mix of veggies with grilled meat. I thought that was going to be bland, but I ended up eating half of both our meals they were that good. This is an out of the ordinary Mexican restaruant.

Ordered tacos, beef and pastor (pork with pineapple) and it was amazing. They had exceptional tortilla chips and salsa, red and green sauces. You can ask for a very spicy green sauce if you like it hot. Simple place, really good Mexican food. They also have authentic drinks and desserts.

Excellent food. Will definitely go again. Not that it's a problem, but they don't serve alcohol.

My husband and I are completely addicted to this place! The food is always as delicious as it is fresh, and the service is always super friendly. I usually get a vegetarian burrito and my husband always switches it up-- sometimes he'll order chicken tacos, but he also loves the aloha chicken and guacamole burritos. We just had friends in town and we called in our order, picked it up very soon after (they're always quick!), and we were able to eat at home and our friends from out of town were very impressed! We have gotten so many of our friends and family addicted to this place. I love that the customer service is always so friendly, and that they always do custom orders (my specific vegetarian burrito isn't even on the menu). They have a special avocado based creamy green sauce that is unbelievable! I've never had anything like it, and we wish that we could buy an entire bottle! We think he should sell it in stores. We also asked whether they put lard in their refried beans because we prefer not to have that ingredient in our food, and they don't-- awesome! We don't have any complaints about this place, except that it's only open Thursday through Sunday. We hope that one day soon they will be open every day! It's always consistent with the delish food and the customer service!

First off, don't go here, more for me. Just kidding, this place has been around for nearly 3 years and we just went today, I could strangle myself. This is by far the best Mexican Food I have ever had in my life and I eat it often and all over the place. It is a small little eatery near 185th and Alexander, one block north of TV Highway, owner operated. We tried the chips and salsa with a side of beans, the chips are home made and delicious, the beans are amazing and the salsa is fresh made and quite tasty. We shared a taco platter, 4 Asada and 4 Al Pastor (Pork), these are the small street tacos with onion and cilantro. They all are marinated and cooked in Pineapple and wow does it make a difference, so succulent and tasty. I was in heaven, seriously. They have a green jalapeno salsa which was spicy and I could not get enough of it, give me chips and a bottle of that shiznit and I am good for days. They have a large menu and I am so excited to try everything on it. They also have a large variety of traditional beverages, I opted for diet Coke. Super reasonably priced as well, our bill was just over 20 bucks with a good tip. They have Happy Hour from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Also free tacos on your birthday. Great place, so glad we finally stopped by!

We tried this place on a whim, it's been many other restaurants/coffee shops in the past I've been told. When you first walk in you notice the decorations hanging overhead and the warm atmosphere. They have old authentic Mexican music playing in the background to add to the ambiance and a selection of lemonades ready to be poured on the counter. The menu is riddled with spelling errors and bad grammar but it adds to the authenticity and charm in my opinion. You have to buy chips and salsa (they don't come free like in some places) but the chips are home made so $2 for them is a good deal. The lunch specials are about $10 and come on huge plates, I could only eat half my food. I'm a weenie when it comes to spicy food- so my mouth was on fire. My husband didn't taste anything spicy on his food so if you're tolerant to hot spices you'll be fine. Grab an authentic glass bottle coke to top off the meal. This place was nice, we'll be back. Good deals and tasty food!

Don Asado is hands down the best restaurant in aloha! Tiny family owned restaurant and alohas best kept secret. The food is fresh authentic and full of flavor. And the owner will make special dishes to accommodate my vegetarian mother. Can't get enough. Tell everyone!!

What can I say but wow! Now *this* is real Mexican food! A little hole-in-the-wall. And I say that with only the utmost of compliments because those places usually have great food! And this one certainly follows suit. The chef (owner) finally got a gal to wait tables. I hope this one lasts. He says they get really busy and it was a good thing we'd made reservations! Be careful how you order, though because I told her I wanted enchiladas (my faves) and a Chile Relleno, and I pointed at the Relleno, not realizing what I was pointing at was a full dinner! And the enchilada dinner plate, in and of itself, was enormous! So I had the gal tell him to put it in a to go box because I wasn't going to be able to eat all of that. It was pretty tasty the next day, too. Anyway, the food was fantastic! I'm not normally one who can tolerate hot foods well, but this was a flavorful hot. Loved it. Anyway, if you can, drop in and have a bite to eat. Great food! And don't forget to make a reservation..

We just moved to OR from CA, and I have been absolutely craving authentic, delicious Mexican food since we got here. Don Asado seriously hits the spot. The food was incredible!! I had the carne asada, and my boyfriend got the lamb. The plates were giant and had great presentation. The tortillas are made in-house along with the hot sauces. The green salsa was unlike anything I've ever had, and I would like to take home a gallon of it. The service was friendly and the food outlandishly tasty. We are definitely coming back soon!!!

The food here is nothing short of amazing. I had the tacos arabes - the pork was perfectly tender with a wonderful slightly smoky and spicy taste - the tortillas were so fresh - really everything fresh and great. My son had the shrimp tacos and my husband had the enchilada pastor. Both were extremely satisfying. We all dug in fast and kept going- so tasty we didn't want to stop- so sorry no food pics. I should also mention they had many great juice and drink options. The watermelon juice hit the spot on a warm summer afternoon. The five star reviews on this place are spot on. Probably the best Mexican food my family has had in the greater Portland area. I would give even more stars if I could. Excellent service too. We will be back for sure.

This is the second time I have been here. I tell you what this place is fantastic. I got the steak burrito and it was huge. My wife got the the mix plate "small" and she had to take half home. The kids meals are good too.

If you want amazing tacos with tender, perfectly grilled meat, spicy salsa with good flavor, and decent rice and beans then try this place! I ordered the two chicken, two asada taco special and it was really good. Their salsa came in two types. One was the standard rojo salsa that was full of smoky flavor but also had kick. The other salsa looked questionable but it was pretty spicy and tasted almost like a creamy jalapeño salsa. It was excellent with the tacos. The beans were a good consistency and the rice was pretty good too. Not the best I've ever had but decent. It's a small location on a side street with interesting decor inside. Let's just say it was pretty authentic. The man who played host was also the server and I think possibly the chef. I'm assuming he was the owner because a woman with two cute kids sat in a back booth and seemed as though they were waiting. I'm pretty sure it is family owned and operated. Anyway the man was very attentive, came over frequently to make sure we were doing okay, and was very nice. Definitely going back, probably more than I should. good food, good service, decent decor and ambiance. Nothing fancy but definitely worth the go.

The Al Pastor was amazing, the guacamole was fresh and chunky and the sauces were full of flavor. Staff was friendly and attentive. I had a burrito and it was HUUUGEE!! Easily shareable. My only complaint is there is no alcohol.

This out of the way restaurant had the best tacos I have had ing a LONG while, unfortunately that quality didn't hold up with the carne asada. The meat was so tough and stringy that you couldn't hardly chew it. It you stick to the tacos though, you will love this place.

  • Dianna J.

Such a great place. I always get the chili relleno or build my own tostada, the two best vegetarian options anywhere. The meat options are fresh, tender and flavorful according to my carnivore friends. All sauces made from scratch. Yes, you heard that right. The green sauce is wonderful if you like it spicy and don't forget to order a pitcher of hermica (sp.?) cold tea for the table, also made from scratch. Best refried and black beans, could make a meal on those alone. Almost forgot to mention the guacamole, tastes like it is made on the spot. Actually, pretty sure it is made on the spot. Don't forget to ask if there is a daily special. How such quality can be served at such low$ is beyond me. We always tip big because menu is ridiculously affordable!

Literally the best salsa I've ever tasted. Ordered a chicken burrito with a side of beans.. uh nothing short of amazing! Very flavorful and filling plus super fresh ingredients! I will be a regular at this awesome establishment.

I came here on a whim with a craving for some Mexican food. It is a small hole in the wall with a nice looking menu. Unfortunately they don't have their liquor license, but I did enjoy fresh non-alcoholic piña colada which was delicious. My enchiladas were just as good.

  • Lindsay T.

I decided to come here for lunch after reading all the wonderful reviews. The first thing I noticed was the fresh salsas on the table. We ordered some chips ($2) to try them all and all the salsas are amazing! I loved the green one so much I bought a container to take home, my friend bought 3 containers of the different salsas! I ordered the steak sopes ($9.95) and she ordered pork and steak tacos ($12.95). We both loved our meals, the sope shell was crisp but chewy and the steak tender and flavorful. The only thing that keeps me from becoming a regular is the price. My meal didn't include any rice or beans and the chips were extra as well. I think if they lowered their prices by a few dollars they would triple their business because most people don't want to regularly spend $12 for lunch. All in all it was a wonderful lunch and we loved the intimate atmosphere. The salsas are definitely some of the best I've had anywhere and if they would only lower their prices a little bit we would come back at least once a week.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
