I'm eagerly awaiting a menu expansion so that I can return for more deliciousness! The decor is still coming along, but it was a delight to see brightly painted tables as soon as you walk in the door. It's a welcome contrast to the Oregon gray. The menu is simple: five different types of tacos, some tortas (sandwiches), a quesadilla plate, and a selection of appetizers on a specials board. We ordered some tacos al pastor (pork), tacos de lengua (tongue), and tacos de carne asada (steak). I also ordered an appetizer, a tostada with tomato-marinated shrimp. The appetizer threw me for a bit of a loop because it also included imitation crabmeat, which I normally dislike, but it worked with the slightly-sweet tomato marinade and sweet shrimp. The tacos were excellent, though. They're small, but loaded with meats that are cooked skillfully. The meats each had their own complex flavors that made each taco interesting and distinct. The best part of the experience was combining the tacos with the six different house-made spicy salsas, which ranged from creamy to tangy, sharply spicy to smoky. Two tacos were enough for my large appetite, but one of the talented and personable cooks came out to chat with us and asked if we had tried the tripe taco. I'm not normally a fan of tripe, but I never turn down an adventure, so when he offered us one each to try, how could I refuse? I was so glad he brought me one. It had a flavor that reminded me of chicharron sandwiches my Mexican friends used to make me back in Florida. It almost tasted like breaded pork and wasn't chewy or tripey at all. I truly enjoyed it and I will order it again in the future! The kids liked the Sno-Cones in the freezer. :). I wish Tacos el Machin much success, and I look forward to tasting your new menu!

These are the best tacos around. I have traveled in Mexico quite a bit - these tacos are on par with the best you'll find anywhere. The menu is limited, which is a good sign. They specialize in tacos, and they do them very well, so why mess around with anything else. The restaurant was very clean. The owner was very friendly and explained the variety of taco choices. We had the pastor and carne asada. Amazing! Very flavorful. The tacos are small ($1.50 each) and come with onions and cilantro, just as they should. The salsa bar is something you don't see everywhere, and really takes the tacos to the next level. 5-6 different types of authentic salsas, made in house. They are all good and have some heat. Try the pickled onions, grilled onions and pinto beans. We had our young daughters with us. The owner, without us asking, turned on a cartoon on the tv for us as soon as we walked in. Very nice. The girls loved the tacos as well. We'll be back!

Fantastic little, family run, restaurant. The tacos are delicious with many varieties of meats available to both tempt and challenge you. The ceviche is one of my very favorite offerings here. All the salsas are going to get your attention! I have learned that I can endure a lot more fire than I thought with the stellar combinations. Marinated onions and beans are offered to complement any meal. This establishment is one of my favorite hidden finds but I don't wish for it to stay hidden any longer.

  • Juan S.

Awesome authentic tacos! Meat is tender, my favorites are the lengua and cabeza. Spicy salsas on the side. Tacos are served with diced onion and cilantro...so, don't ask for cheese!

We found this business while searching for lunch in Albany, as we used to eat at the former restaurant that was here. Anyway, the place lacks ambiance big time but the food is good and was swiftly prepared. Prices aren't bad but so far have only tried tacos and the ceviche tostada. Where El Machin excels is in their spicy salsas. Might be way too spicy for most folks but we love hot and spicy food, so great for us. Several different types of sauces and also offering free beans and grilled onions on the side. We were also treated to a discussion about the sauces from the chef who makes them and will definitely go back. Salsa bar also includes pickled red onion and sliced radishes. You just don't see this kind of salsa bar in most of Oregon, though very common in California and Mexico. Hoping they start to include carnitas and add cilantro and chopped onions to the salsa bar. Far better offerings than most Mexican restaurants in the area, who all seem to have a couple of really mild and tasteless sauces to pour on the food, so we almost always bring our own. Good and tasty and worth a second and third try!

We are new to town and tried Tacos El Machin for lunch today based on great reviews and were not disappointed. We ordered 10 tacos, a variety of pastor (pork), pollo (chicken), and asada (steak) for two adults and two small children. Three of us thought the pastor was the best, but all of the varieties were delicious. The tacos came with fresh onions and cilantro. My husband tried the salsas and was happy with the heat levels, even finding a red chili sauce. There were also two crock pots with cooked onions and pinto beans to add to the meals, plus radishes and limes in the salsa cooler. The taco prices are currently $1.99 each, and we thought that was a fair price for the quality of meat and size of the tacos- the amount of food we ordered turned out just right for our family. We will definitely be eating at this restaurant again!

Legit Mexican street tacos. Also more entree style tacos with a touch of modern fusion cuisine. Excellent salsas, screaming hot. Proprietor is eager to explain his menu and make recommendations. Try the tripa tacos, excellent. The camarones al ajillo are an amazing savory experience, perfectly balanced and subtle.

I have to agree with the good reviews on this place. I've been here several times and the food is great. They also have an excellent sauce bar with many many varieties of sauces for your food. Being originally from California, this is the best place for a burrito or taco, believe me!! Yeah the tacos are small but how they prepare the meat is tasty. The burritos are a good size. Only suggestion is add rice to the menu as a filler. This is my "go to" place for tacos and burritos. Excellent!

  • Tony H.

Best tacos in Albany!!! Yes the tacos are small but filled with meat and they are so tasty. Had the pollo, asada, and the chorizo tacos and especially liked the pollo and chorizo. Definitely coming back for sure! Service was nice and courteous but nothing to write home about. Did I mention the food?? Awesome awesome awesome.

  • Scott B.

5 stars even though it looks like it's going out of business and has no chips! The tacos and hot sauces are that good. Not fusion. Not gourmet. Just basic, simple goodness perfected.

  • Devon H.

I have had the lengua, pastor, pollo, cabeza, and tripa here. It's very excellent! Great flavor, excellent staff. The owner Noel was extremely nice and accommodating. I recommend this place as the go to Mexican place in Albany without a doubt!! :-) Very satisfied customer

We came here today specifically of the great reviews here on Yelp. My mom ordered two tacos, they were two of the smallest tacos we have ever seen. The only toppings that come with it is Cilantro and Onion. We asked to have cheese and lettuce added which they did (for $0.75 per taco, which we thought was a tad steep). I had a burrito which was ok, but nothing too special. Service was excellent and the food came out quickly and hot. Overall we were a bit disappointed and ended up getting a snack an hour or two later at DQ because of the small tacos.

If you want tacos, need tacos and want the best tacos around then Tacos El Machin is the place to go. No cheese on these bites of Mexican heaven. These tacos come authentically topped with tons of fresh cilantro and chopped onion. Each bite explodes with flavor from a wonderful variety of succulent and delightfully seasoned meats. We had the cabeza, pastor, lengua and chorizo tacos and all were fabulous, especially when paired with a very icy cold frosty mug of Corona. Each meal comes with the salsa bar featuring about 8 different salsas from mild to fiery in addition to habenero pickled onions which will knock your socks off. There are also two stock pots of stewed onions and pinto beans for side dishes. At 1.99 for each of their wonderful tacos, we are sure to become regular patrons to Tacos El Machin. Five stars for this place!!!!!!!

This place has great street tacos. We were just driving by on our way to Seattle and needed a place to stop. Just as good as the tacos you get in Seattle. Easy on/off from the freeway too

  • Melissa C.

Tacos were good! My husband had the pollo and pastor and true to the previous reviews the pastor was his favorite. I had the carne which was tasty and all the salsas were very fresh and spicy. Definitely a basic place but that's what we were looking for. I will agree with previous posts that pride of ownership is there in that the dining room and restroom were both really clean! I would definitely come back.

Very friendly, quick service, and great food. As far as the ambiance, well, there isn't one, very basic. But for a one $ sign location you really can't ask for anything more than great service and food. We tried a variety of the tacos and everyone one delicious. My favorite was the cabeza, which is actually cheek meat. If you have never had cheek meat you are missing out! Super rich and tender. They top it with generous portions of cilantro, etc. and provide a bar with sauces, sautéed onions and beans. Looking forward to my next visit!

It's ok not as good as I've had before at other Mex foods places.. We read many reviews on this place.. It's not that great.. We got chicken tacos , chicken was tasty, very small tacos. They don't come with rice and beans, that costs extra.. I wasn't impressed with food. Service was good. It wasn't cheap$..

Very basic, hole-in-wall, taco shop with delicious tacos! This is street food and it was great. The tacos are small, we each had three. They were $2 each. We had pastor and asada, both were delish. Big sauce/salsa bar with several types of what appears to be homemade sauces. Some are pretty hot, so watch out! They also had a pot of beans, but they were gone by the time we got there (just before closing). Since we walked in about 15 minutes before closing, they were already starting to break down the salsa bar, etc. However, they were friendly and accomodating. They offer beer--which was great. If you are looking for easy and casual, this is the place for you. Don't come expecting a sit-down mexican place with chips and salsa (they don't have it). While they do have lots of seating, this isn't a place where you would want to linger over dinner. It's quick food, served with a smile.

  • Jessica M.

Pretty basic tacos. Al Pastor was not what I consider Al Pastor but they have a huge salsa bar to make up for anything you may or may not be expecting. I'd eat there again because the people were sweet and customer oriented and because it could be the best thing to eat in that town.

WOW! As a native southern Californian, I am pleased to say that I have finally found a truly authentic Mexican taquaria/restaurant. The Food: I ordered asada tacos. Absolutely perfectly seasoned and marinated meat. Fresh cilantro and onion. Quality ingredients all around. Also the sauce bar, every single hot sauce is spicy deliciousness. The Service: Very friendly and polite. Lots of smiles to go around. Cleanliness: Immaculate and spotless. Nothing else to say about that, the bathroom was also one of the cleanest I've been to at a small taquaria. The Price: Here lies the only issue I have with the restaurant. No daily specials, and 2 dollars a taco! If they brought the price down, or introduced daily or even weakly specials, they'd have to bar the door to keep me out! Overall I highly recommend. Please put a restaurant in Corvallis, you are needed!

  • Ken W.

The guy working here was extremely outgoing and friendly, which surprised me. I find that a lot of people working at small Mexican food joints don't really want to talk, but great customer service here. I ordered a cabeza, pastor and asada taco. He followed up with me to see how I liked the food, and I found it excellent. Here's why: The tacos were small, but the meat was cooked great. It tasted unique from other Mexican food restaurants I've been to. It didn't taste like I was sitting in a chain restaurant with the classic rice and beans slapped on the side. The spices stood out to me and were delicious. Extremely tender Carne asada in which I find it chewy at a lot of places. The meats were all very juicy and not dry at all. They cook with unique spices from a southern region of Mexico, using coffee beans to flavor some of their meats. Delicious quality tacos. Only knock is on the small size but they're going for authentic street tacos here. It only left me wanting more.

  • Nav S.

Their tacos are amazing. While they are small, they're very simple, and they have plenty of salsa options for you to add to your food. My husband got a burrito and LOVED it. Overall, I've recommended it to friends and have come back multiple times for lunch.

  • Hippie M.

This was a surprise. Leaving southern California, I assumed I would be leaving authentic Mexican food behind. The meats are seasoned and cooked perfectly. Cashier had a great attitude. And the salsa bar was to die for. Many different kinds of salsa with different heat levels

  • Annie N.

Holy guacamole! I got a recommendation for this establishment from a woman that was going through the Hatch chili at Fred Meyer. What a find!!!! Real Mexico style food. No bloody white bread food. Street tacos that are flavorful. I ordered carne asana tacos and the meat was tender and perfectly seasoned. Some may say the tacos are small but these are done the way they are prepared in Mexico. This is the real deal. Not fancy but clean, salsa and condiments bar and a crock of beans. Hijole! Get to this place if you crave flavorful food from Mexico! Clean and spare inside with warm staff and hella good food. Definitely on our go to place for great comida Mexicana!

Awesome Al Pastor burrito ($6.50). Great place to stop for a quick bite (with enough for leftovers!) when driving between Eugene and Portland on the 5 -- worth the 5 minute detour!

  • Jeff J.

WOW!!! Excellent street style tacos!! I arrived about 15 minutes past the posted closing time. I was welcomed in and ordered several tacos. The asada was tender, moist, and full of flavor. The pollo was shredded and also very tender and good flavor. The Pastor, my favorite, was off the hook. I wished I had ordered more. I live in Los Angeles and have tasted several street tacos. The tacos at El Machin were up there with the BEST I have had. I would highly recommend this place and I will definitely make this a must stop on my next visit.

The most authentic Mexican food I've had in Oregon and I'm from Ventura/Oxnard so I know my shit... Pastor is killer and there salsas. Did I mention the salsas?!!!! Pickled onions on point. This is now my go to place! 20 minute drive definitely worth it...

  • E K.

I've only had the pollo tacos but I thought they were awesome. Very similar to Portland food cart tacos. Tasty and cheap! Lots of hot sauces and beans on the island bar in the middle of the room. Very spacious restaurant, hopefully they do well enough to add to the place! Caution, the tacos are small and only come with cilantro and chopped onion, authentic style. I ate three in one sitting and added pinto beans, I was pretty full but a big eater might need another taco or two.

  • YJ L.

Their food was authentic and delicious! Tacos were just like the ones we had had in Mexico and quesadillas were way bigger than we expected. All were good but alambre was my favorite. It was grilled with bacon and mushrooms and absolutely delicious! The person who greeted us was super friendly and courteous. He even gave us free tacos so we can try pastor! It was awesome experience :)

You know it's good Mexican food when the menu is written in mostly Spanish and everyone in there is speaking spanish. Chicken Burrito is perfecto! Don't go anywhere else for your Mexican food!

  • Brian K.

This place gives you the best street taco fix. I have traveled all over California and mexico, and this place sits right there with the best of the taco places in Oregon. $2 a taco is a tiny bit steep, but 3 tacos filled me up fine.

    (5)
  • Shadrack L.

I've traveled around eating in Mexico for 3 months and this place stands up to the best of them. Some of the most authentic street style tacos I've eaten with an amazing selection of salsas from pineapple habanero to chipotle and avocado. The owner is from Oaxaca with chefs from acapulco who also make authentic seafood dishes as well.

  • Jill B.

If you're someone who appreciates a rock-solid taco, this is your spot in Albany. Is it pretty? No. Is it fancy? No. But the food? Unbefrickinglieveable. $2 gets you a taco of your choice with a salsa bar including a crockpot of really tasty beans and a second crock of carmelized onions. The service was fast and courteous, and the al pastor tacos were out of this world (trust me--I've eaten more than my share of pastor to know when it's the real deal). Even my kid's cheese quesadilla was outstanding--fresh tortilla with Oaxaca cheese, none of the icky plasticky yellow cheese. Do yourself a favor the next time you're in Albany and give this easy-to-miss authentic taqueria a try!

By far the best tacos in the area, including Corvallis. Moved here from the Bay Area and have been pretty disappointed by the Mexican food around, but was very impressed by the quality of their food.

I was in town for work and my coworkers and in stopped here for lunch. We were blown away by the food and even more so by the service. You can't go wrong eating here.

Highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent Mexican food in a welcoming atmosphere. Not the easiest location to get to, or very well advertised, and because of that it seems they're still relatively unknown around town.

I personally wrote Kristina to give her crap about how her review sounded like it came from an owner, or an acquaintance. Even if she is, her review is pretty dead on. The tacos here are excellent. What really sets this place apart from the other taco places in town is the salsa bar. The owner explained each salsa, without giving you hints to it's recipe or heat level. No worries. I like heat. And you hardly ever see creamy salsas at any taco shop these days. They were all outstanding. The white one was my personal favorite with hints of an almost ranch flavor hitting into cilantro, lime, and heat. I could eat that stuff with a spoon. The creamy bright orange habanero type one was amazing with the al pastor. As was a green creamy salsa that he told me was not of the "aguacate" variety. The tortillas are not handmade, but of the usual double wrapped street size. I imagine he will get into the hand made variety at some point, but for now, these tortillas work fine. Like Kristina said, not much ambiance and very few menu items, but with how good the tacos are, he may not need to do much more. I am very glad I don't have to drive all the way to Salem to get my taco fix anymore. Not only is the owner passionate about what he is doing, he rely's on his customers feedback in order to help make his business better. For that as well as the amazing tacos and salsas, an easy 5 stars.

Best tacos I have found in Oregon. And I am from Los Angeles. Service so friendly and nice. Wish they were closer to home. Now we have a yummy place to stop on our travels south.

Fantastic food and great service! The tacos are wonderful especially the al pastor. The lengua is ridiculously tender as well. My wife got the camarones al-cilantro and was surprised how well the combination worked. Everything the family got was delicious.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos.
