WOW! Best burger I have had in a very long time!Had the mushroom burger with fries. And A caramel milkshake. My new favorite burger place in Albany. 5 star yummy Tip: The overhead menu does not list what comes on each burger and what size patty or patties. But they have A menu on the counter that does list everything.

Almost every town has a place like this. One remembered most fondly by those that started visiting as a child as they and the town grow up around it. Our first visit to King Kone was many years ago on a hot summer day for a soft serve cone. We weren't disappointed with the ridiculously oversize serving. Since then we've been back for burgers and shakes as a relatively quick stop (5 minutes off of I-5) on road trips. The atmosphere is rough with patched linoleum floors and four Formica booths. The only touch of decor are the white lace curtains and no smoking signs. This is a mom-and-pop operation with the wife taking orders and making the ice cream treats while the husband runs the grill, but we've never gotten a warm feel from the owners. Really more taciturn (rarely a word spoken) and I get the impression they have seen everything pass through these doors. The burgers come in a variety of patty sizes and quantities with a number of different fixings. The larger burgers are cut in half and speared with toothpicks and the fries are your typical crinkle cut variety. Sodas are Pepsi products. What is hard to believe is that this also operates as a drive through. Not terribly obvious from the road, but we saw several use it on our most recent visit. For ice cream, they have about a dozen flavors of hard ice cream in addition to soft serve, which I think is the way to go. When we exited a different way this time, the road took us past fancy new condos about a block down the road. It really was a striking contrast to the run down appearance of King Kone and its neighboring businesses. I do have a fondness for old fashioned diners, especially The East Wind Drive-In by Bridge of the Gods in the Gorge, but King Kone isn't on the top of my diner list.

This place has been around forever and is fantastic for the burgers! It has changed hands many times now. When I was a kid the owners were super friendly and made it a great experience. However, now with these Asian owners, they do speak English but they are not friendly by any means. If they would start to say thank you when you order, that would be great. I have actually gone out of my way to be super friendly to see if I can get a thank you out of them! Never once have I heard thank you.

This place is very good. The price is also just right. When I need my ice cream and burger fix, I for sure come here! Don't judge a book by its cover! Although this place looks run down, the owners manager to still keep it clean and deliver delicious burgers. It's a ma and pop kinda feel restaurant, which is why I love it. You can see the owner cooking your burger, which makes me feel like I'm at home. There's only two people running this place and they work very hard, so please be patient. However, King Kone has been here forever and still manages to deliver great food! Love it here!

This place is great. I'm so glad I read the reviews and decided to go. The place is a bit run down but that doesn't stop them from serving tasty food. This will defiantly be a burger joint that I recommend to others

King Kone holds near and dear to my heart. My grandfather and I always used to ride our bikes 2+ miles when I was young to get their soft ice cream. Go with the half and half. Prices are excellent. And burgers are made right off the grill. It's little known but awesome. The location tends to bring the restaurant down due to it being in a low income part of town. But, it's a must try.

I haven't reviewed King Kone!? How could this be?! This is at the top of my "don't judge a restaurant by its exterior" list. KK is the place we'd go in high school, when all we could round up were some quarters and needed a junk food fix. I would get the same thing every time: a large twist cone in a cup with the cone on top - because the cones were so freakishly huge (visualize soft serve from adult-sized elbow-to-wrist - plus a couple inches. No joke) that one couldn't possibly eat it in the summertime without having it drip all over your arm. Bless them for offering cups for this very reason. They've also got great (and by great, I don't mean great for you) burgers, corn dogs, and other fabulessly fried goodies at reasonable prices. They've also got hard ice cream and shakes, but I stick with the soft serve. KK has been an institution in this run-down neighborhood for longer than I've been around. Fancy, most definitely not, but you can always get your food to go, and they have a drive-up window. I still visit several times per year, and I've seen the size of the cones gradually get smaller over the years.....total bummer. A large is still more ice cream than I should probably eat at once, but it's no longer as King as it used to be.

No credit, debit or checks. Cash only! I am a big fan of supporting local business. And I am a fan of yummy burgers, shakes and fries. I wanted to love The Kone but it was just OK for me. We stopped by one night and ordered some burgers, shakes, fries and fried mushrooms to go. I liked the shrooms but the rest was just meh. Not icky or gross, just meh. I think it's a husband and wife operation and it's clear that they work hard. I don't know how clean it is and was kind of grossed out by the fly strips. If you are in The Land of Love, give Hastee Freeze a try. They are probably comparable in the world of burgers but the shakes there are amazing.

Ambiance it has not but good basic food for a good price it has. They had kept it so clean I thing the wore out the tile washing it. Try the shakes.

I've driven by this place for the last 4 years and thought it was abandoned. I saw people inside the other day and thought they were looters, come to find out this place has been open the entire time! Walking in this place is like walking into a time capsule. I don't think anything has been replaced since the mid 70s. The woman behind the counter didn't even ask what I wanted, she just stared at me until I ordered something. The food is cheap and much better than you would expect. The real entertainment comes from people watching. This restaurant is in the ghetto of Albany so you get to see the crack heads strolling by. It is like watching an episode of the Walking Dead. Great entertainment, and great burgers. I'll be back...

This is quintessential small town diner food! The burgers are massive (got to go with the King Kong burger of course) and loaded with all the traditional toppings. Plus they serve shakes--and many flavors of them at that. Granted, they use the flavored syrups to do that with, not real fruit or anything, but still tasty and hits the spot. Although it looks like you might get mugged between your car and the restaurant (or even in the restaurant), I urge you to take a chance.

Great food & prices, but the ambiance is greatly lacking...And they do not take anything but CASH, so the convenience of carrying a card is lost here. Its been a great little spot as long as I can remember, the Kong Burger, the HUGE soft-serve ice-cream cones, and their fries. A great little diner, just dont let the exterior, interior, or the need for cash deter you!
