Yum! Every time I drive by here I see lots of cars, doesn't seem to matter the time or day. We stopped by on our way home and it was great! Prices are really good, serving sizes are big, which I usually frown upon excessiveness, but this is fun, classic American summer kind of food. The food and the building makes you mentally time travel a little bit. The servers were adorable young kids who worked hard and kept smiling. I love this, I will be back!!!

My favorite place to eat in Albany for 40 yrs. Cheeseburgers and fries, onion rings are always Hot! Not cold like many other drive thru places. You won't be disappointed. Great milkshakes. Great Managers that never run out of product.

From the outside this place looks a little sketch, but the milkshakes and fries are delicious and keep us coming back for more! My personal favorite is the chocolate marshmallow shake. Fries are great, but often need a little extra salt. Try dipping in the shake - that's good too! Burgers are ok, but pricey and very thin.

They have vanilla malts. Enough said.

Went for lunch on a recommendation, what a mistake. One car at the window, and then a second, then mine. Took over 20 minutes for them to serve two vehicles then get me to the window. Prices were high, portions small, quality mediocre at best. I can only assume they have remained in business because the locals are accustomed to average burgers since they have 2 McDonald's, 2 burger kings, and 2 Carl's jr. Restaurants.

Great place with cheap juicy classic burgers. Only place in Albany worth going to if u want a good cheap burger without all the fancy burger stuff like fired onions and chibatta buns. Also have great soft serve cones available in 3 sizes (Cones are all same size but they add more soft serve the bigger size u go and I think a large Is $2 so good deal ).fires are pretty good to always fresh and not over salted cause u add the salt. Do not go here if you're in a hurry it might be a drivetru or walk up but it's not fast food. Also if ur looking to stay awhile there is no sitting just a building where u order food. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the sometimes exsessive weight times cause of lazy high school employs who are sometimes to busy flirting with others to take your order.

Classic old fashioned burger stand. As cheap as the chain fast food places but much better. Their shakes are crazy good. I try to eat here any time I'm in Albany around lunch time.

Pretty, pretty good. God, I miss the one in Lebanon, but this one is fine! GREAT value. It also helps that I want to have a three-way sexual experience with the smoking hot gals there. Good fries, great burgers, Pepsi products, yum yum.

Their ice cream is delicious - Get a slushi float. Lime is damn delicious. Burgers are good and at a decent price. They have been in operation since I have been born and higher local high school students. It was always the hip place to go for locals.

Yummy! So good and really cheap! Only downside is that it's ALWAYS busy and you have to wait a long time. Love the flavor bursts!

We live out of town now, so we always have to hit Hasty Freez when we visit, at least once a month! We love the fishwich! The shakes are good, and the regular hamburgers are so yummy! (WAY better than Burgerville)

Ice Cream sundae and cones are delicious. Not a big fan of their burger and fries, I make mine a lot healthier and better.

It was okay, not great but not bad either. I didnt like having to wait 20-30 minutes in my car but I totally understand why. If they were bigger they could have at leats outdoor seating. The burgers were good, nothing special but hit the spot. Service was very sweet and nice, went as fast as they could! I had the peanut butter shake and thats the only thing that made me upset, it wasnt creamy peanut butter it was chunky so it was like vanilla ice cream with peanuts in it. Made me sad that sonic makes better peanut butter milkshake then they do :(, i would be back to try a different type tho!

Disclaimer: I've never ordered food here (actually, I think I did once about 15 years ago, but I can't remember anything about it, so I'll pretend as if I haven't). I come here for their peanut butter milkshakes. They're so damn good. I used to order other flavors, but when I found the peanut butter, I found my lifetime milkshake love. As was previously mentioned, drive-up or walk-up only.

This is the nostalgic drive thru of your childhood. The food is tasty. They make all orders after you order the food, so the wait is a bit longer than traditional drive thru. Friendly service makers this place special. I especially think Alyssa is the sweetest. You won't be sad you went. Enjoy!

The song that came to mind whilst walking to Hasty Freez was "Jack and Diane" by John Mellencamp, where he sings, "suckin' on chili dogs, outside the Tastee Freeze ..." And while we didn't order any chili dogs at the Hasty Freez (I don't even know if they sell chili dogs, honestly), we did get their bitchin' soft serve. I thought a medium size would be a good idea, but it was HUGE! If you're watching your figure or not so hungry, I'd recommend ordering a smaller size. But definitely go and get some ice cream. It's pretty close to downtown Albany; the perfect distance for an after-dinner stroll. The small-town Americana-ness of it will have you humming Johnny Cougar all the way home.

This is classic burger and shake joint! My boyfriend and I came here during the summer and it was awesome. We both got shakes and came back the next day for seconds. These types of places are a dying breed. I am happy to see Hasty Freez staying strong.

My favorite place to go with the kids when we want a yummy treat. Much better than any of the fast food chains. Get the peanut butter shake.

I have just recently moved to Albany and every time I would pass them downtown I would see that they were busy! A few days ago I decided to give them a try and now they have me hooked! I am frequently stopping by there now every time I am craving GREAT quality fast food. Their fries are the best I've ever had. Made fresh to order. They are hot, crinkled, and crispy! They usually come with 2 packs of ketchup and come in one generous size that is only $2.00! Their flavor burst bubblegum ice cream is just like the one I had as a kid. And their peanut butter milkshakes are to die for! I asked for mine to be chocolate peanut butter, even better! :) The girls that work here are always friendly and sweet! I give this place 5 stars! Keep them in business :)

Ah, the Hasty Freeze. I love this place. The young women that work here are SO nice and always appreciate it when I tip them. I don't think it happens to often. The burgers are simple and tasty. I'm not really a french fry kinda chica so I get the onion rings. Usually, I incorporate it with the Shake Box. The peanut butter shake is delicious enough that I would be happy to drown in it. It's like stepping back in time. The building probably hasn't changed and the design is out of date. But, don't change anything, Hasty Freeze. We love you just the way you are!

Just moved from the Bay Area. Great neighborhood hole in the wall. Yeah, the patties were frozen but would you expect grass fed for the price? The burgers and fries are straight forward and nostalgic. They cook everything when you order it and at a reasonable price. Service is always pleasant and they take credit. One thing they could improve on is they could be a bit more efficient and service could be a bit faster but great overall. Park your car and walk to the window for faster service. I would recommend the onion rings and regular cheeseburger. Haven't had a shake but plan on doing so.

I really had high hopes for this cute burger drive up joint. We normally hit Burgerville when going by Albany but thought we would try something different. In retrospect...bad decision. Had the Bacon Cheeseburger Delux...which meant I got wilted lettuce and a non-ripe tomato. Service was relatively fast ... perhaps that's because the hamburger patty was so thin that it didn't take much to cook it very well done. Perhaps it would have better with some additional Ketchup, mustard or special sauce. My spouse was less critical of her regular hamburger but it was dry too. It just feels like a place that looks and feels like it is primarily a burger joint, ought to have great burgers. On a positive note, the tots were pretty good and the ice cream looked good too. Next time I'll grab a burger at Burgerville on my way to try the ice cream.

The ice cream is delicious. I had a marshmallow sundae which was incredibly sweet and definitely contained artificial flavors, however, I would recommend it. I also ordered a deluxe cheeseburger. Just like the ice cream, the burger is packed full of sugar and factory farmed produce BUT it was super good. This is a great spot to stop in at if you are passing through or are looking for something sweet. Frequent visits will undoubtably lead to diabetes and obesity. Oh there is also no seating.

This mom and pop burger shack has the best food and drinks around! You will not be disappointed on bit with anything you order from here! The shakes are out of this world yummy! The burgers are so tasteful you will want to return here again and again! If you would like a freshly made meal it is worth the wait; they get busy at times. Like I said it is worth the wait!

Had the soft cream mix (vanilla and chocolate) cone. It was a warm day and hit the spot. Drive thru option is convenient and a cone for $1.80 shared between 2 people wasn't bad. Would go back.

I really wanted to like place after reading the yelp reviews. We came specifically for the shakes. My sweetie had a coffee shake and I had the peanut butter. They were thick but watery...like they used ice milk and they did taste all that good....my dog would not even eat the peanut butter shake. An exceptional shake is smooth, creamy rich and thick....to bad these shakes did not hit the mark. Darn!

My favorite place in town to get a burger and fries. Everything on the menu is delicious. I have to get a Pepsi every time I go because I love the taste with the crushed ice and styrofoam cup.

  • Kimberly W.

I've been here multiple times over the past few years and they never disappoint. We always seem to end up with a burger box with shakes. Oh how I love their shakes, nice and thick and so many flavors to choose from. The burgers are worth waiting for, they cook them fresh. Your food will never sit around here, everything is made to order. Expect a wait when you go, this is not fast food, just delicious!

An Albany staple. You'd think perhaps the burgers would be just ok, the fries extra greasy, and the shakes runny by looking at the outside of their building. You would be VERY wrong if you assumed that! The burgers are great, though they are smaller, and not fancy. The fries are PERFECT! Crinkle cut, cooked to perfection. The shakes are so thick when you get them that you might turn your head inside out if you try to drink it right away. They are a dying breed, an old school ice cream and burger drive-up. So good. #Corvsmb

What can I say but I LOVE HASTY FREEZE!

Just Plain Awesome! If you can catch them at an off HR when they don't have a huge line it so worth a short wait to get some great fast food. Been frequenting this establishment since I was a little kid and would walk the three blocks from my grandmas house for a ice cream cone. So glad that not much has changed for this historic fixture in Downtown Albany.

    Great burgers and fries...

  • Liane D.

The food was really good, and the price was very good. It's a fast food place, but has better food than regular fast food restaurants. The line takes forever to get up to the window, but that's because they don't just plop food into a microwave (they actually cook the food). The fries are really good, and the fry sauce is awesome. I just wish there was a place to sit and eat there.

A staple drive-up burger joint in Albany that I would recommend to anyone passing though. Pick this over any other fast-food burger place in Albany!
