Gray Owl Coffee Menu

I love Grey Owl, and it's the perfect place to chat. Comfy and inviting couches with vintage tables & chairs create a warm and cozy atmosphere. They have a great selection of teas, and they are more than willing to give you refills of hotwater with a teapot. I love their baked goods, and their blackberry scones are delicious. I enjoy their espresso, but I'm not a fan of their drip coffee. My major problem lies with the customers- typically college students- that come in with laptop and homework to take up a 4-top table by themselves. I am one of those people that carts their laptop in and uses Gray Owl as an office - but I only do so when it is more than half-empty. Coming in during a rush to work on things stresses me and the workers out I'm sure. They have free wi-fi and lots of board games and card games. It's a great place to have a group discussion or just chat with a few friends over tea and coffee.

One of the best cups of coffee I have had. Love the atmosphere. If I didn't live in Edmond I would be here all the time.

Yes siree really good coffee latte tea stop here today. All 3 us had spice chai latte drinks. Lots of beautiful tea choices and hand made foods. Great old time dive place which is highly preferred. Great service. Perfect

Delicious lattes! Stopped in because they were open late. Will return because they know how to make drinks! Update: I stopped back in the next morning and it wasn't quite as memorable. Good, but not delicious.

I should probably admit it's not my favorite, but Gray Owl is open a little later than Michelangelo's which is good for after work. Honestly it's just not my ideal atmosphere? Like it's really cool and stylish, but that whole hipster vibe is kind of intimidating (a bit like being terrified to laugh too loud and draw attention to yourself because you're obviously out of place? but that might just be me) On a pleasant upside, they seem to do latte art, like little hearts and leaves, which is pretty cute. However a cute little heart in the foam on my burnt irish cream cappuccino doesn't really make my heart sing, if anything it produces a sigh of resignation fun anecdote though: I came there to study once and was surprised to find myself amidst the screening of some art student's short films, which uh it was an experience to say the least. Now I'm totally on board for supporting artists even if I was intending to get work done but I'm only human and by extension am not immune to giggling all throughout a 5 minute video of a man eating a sonic hotdog I'm sorry

Still my favorite coffee joint after graduating. I love the atmosphere of this place and the eclectic mix of furniture. The pastries are good and so is their coffee. I would definitely come back again! The amount of items on their menu is minimal, kind of like the atmosphere they are going for, but the blueberry scone was delish!

I'm glad Grey Owl is in town, it's sorely needed. Quality suffered though when they stopped using Intelligentsia beans. I'm all for using local beans...when they're also the best tasting available. No disrespect to Topeca or whoever they use currently but its not Intelligentsia. Baked goods are really bad. A little effort would be appreciated on that front. Overall pretty good and I'll continue to go.

This is such a great study spot! I ordered an iced vanilla chai and it was very good! I love the atmosphere of this place the most! It is so laid back and has that hipster vibe to it, which I love.

Best coffee shop in Norman. They really put thought into everything: the atmosphere, the quality espresso, baked goods, and they even have almond milk in addition to soy milk for those looking for dairy alternatives for their lattes (this was a true deal maker for me, this is rare around here).

  • Austin Q.

Gray Owl is one of the best study spots on campus. Very warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff are always nice and helpful. Unfortunately, the coffee here is only average. I have never been very impressed with any of their coffee drinks here. However, their tea selection is stellar. Blue Crane is bomb. All I get here is tea now. Their baked goods are also fantastic.

Cute little coffee shop in Norman and a good place to hang out with friends (they have boardgames) or study. I got the vanilla latte based on recommendations on FourSquare. It was good and creamy with cute latte art!

Great place to study or work quietly, or just to meet friends for coffee. They brew delicious coffee and offer a number of espresso drinks and food items. I hope to try their food sometime (they have a quiche that smells so good, but I'd just eaten the last time I visited), but since I haven't done that yet, all I can speak for is the coffee and the ambience -- it's great. I like to stop there after a trip to the library. Nice location.

Decent coffee but always sloooooooww. And their coffee beans for sale are from Kansas, not quite local, and always on the stale side of life. The baristas are friendly enough and the baked goods are yummy!

Oh my goodness, I've fallen in love with this little coffee shop. It has the most comfy, community feel and their homemade pastries are to die for. I had a chocolate sea salt almond cookie and it was so yummy! The blueberry scone was also very good. This is the kind of place that I will come to Norman for, and I cannot say that about too many places besides L&B Yarn Shop. I saw someone knitting in Gray Owl, too, so it made me imagine myself there even more. I actually didn't get to try many of the drinks yet, but the atmosphere alone has got me hooked!

I'm really sad this morning, I'm writing this review from work, my husband normally makes me a cortado, but he had to leave earlier then usual so no coffee for me. I'm currently contemplating a visit to my second favorite coffee shop (the first being my home) the Gray Owl at lunch. I can grab some lunch, pastry, cortado and relax in a comfortable enviroment, if I lived in Norman I would be here like every other day at least. As far as coffee shops go though bascially they have everything I'm looking for except location, which would be dumb to count against them. (so I'm not) Basically everyting: Couch, board games, wi-fi, a cup of cold press, a good cortado - just like home, but with studious people and my grandmother's shortbread raspberry bars (I don't know how they got the recipe, but I'm glad she shared it with them!)

Gray Owl is a one of a kind in Norman, it's hip and a place to "be seen". The pot of tea is my all time favorite, my boyfriend was not impressed with their french press coffee. It can get very crowded in which they're no places to sit, the staff is always very nice and helpful in selections. The true upside to this place is the comfy couches !

  • Juju G.

Went here today on a whim, I was craving something warm to drink, and so was my honey. We got a hot chocolate and vanilla latte. Both were made in a timely manner, and tasted delicious. I could tell my hot chocolate was made with real dark chocolate and not the fake powdered stuff due to the caffeine punch and strong real chocolate flavor, and the vanilla latte was so yummy that my significant other couldn't stop drinking his hot beverage. The place itself seems to be a place where college students come with their apple macbooks and study or do their homework. When we went today, all the tables and couches were filled with people on their portable apple computers drinking their caffeine filled beverages and eating a fresh pastry. We were too full to try any of their yummy baked goods, but I really wanted to try their blueberry muffin, blueberry scone, pumpkin scone, pumpkin bar, sugar cookie, and etc! Everything looked so yum yummy! Glad we got to stop in today!

This is my favorite coffee spot in Norman. In addition to good coffee and teas, there's delicious pasties; and it's also a great place to chat and meet with friends or study and get work done (there's free wifi). I highly recommend the soy latte and the cold press.

I've been a loyal Gray Owl fanatic for 2 years! I'd confidently say this is where you'll get the best coffee / espresso / tea in Norman. They brew Topeaca coffee, roasted in Tulsa. They have an especially impressive collection of teas. I LOVE a plain iced tea from gray owl on a warm day. Now you have to promise me something - you MUST order a pastry item. It's taken me until recently to realize how serious their pastry game is. One of my favorite things is to sit at the bar and watch the bakers make the treats they sell. I'm usually weirded out by pasty items that aren't a plain chocolate chip cookie, but I've learned that you have to trust the Owl. They know what they're doing! Some of my favorites: fig date bar, toffee bar, granola and yogurt. And I definitely haven't tried everything, so go for it! I'd say their pastry selection is what puts gray owl into the 5 star category. The atmosphere is of course wonderful, cozy and homey. Be aware that this is a college town and evenings can often be packed with students studying. I like to go in the mornings and afternoons. And one last thing, if you're going to study or work (as I usually am), use your coffee shop etiquette! Don't just squat for the free wifi. Don't not buy something because your friend bought something and you're in the clear. Don't pack a lunch and eat it here. Acknowledge that the Gray Owl is a local business and show them some love and respect!!

Coffee's good, tea's good, service is consistently good. The price is right. I wish I had discovered this joint earlier in my undergrad; I only started going during my senior year. It's a good place to chill and socialize with friends. Some people study here, but it's too noisy for that, at least for me (then again, I can't really study anywhere that's not perfectly silent. If you like a little background noise when you study, go for it).

  • Pam X.

Honestly, the coffee here was a little overpriced but the space and atmosphere are comfortable and cozy. I love the board games they set out around the shop--I could sit here and play chess for hours. This was one of the first local coffee places I felt I could make my own, even though it's more or less known as a hipster crawl and everybody wears thick rimmed glasses and cardigans. The jade cloud green tea is quite nice, if they still offer it.

I really fell in love with this place, I was able to find a parking spot and a table during my visit. I ordered a RICE milk sugar free vanilla latte, I was served a real coffee mug and it was divine! I was able to peacefully work using their Free wifi while listening to the great music they had playing. Very friendly staff, great atmosphere and wonderful coffee, I'll definitely be back!

Locally owned coffee shop with yummy treat (try the scones) with a few vegan options. Everyone that works there is really nice and friendly. I like to go there in the summer when all the students are gone hehe

Gray Owl is a well-rounded local coffee shop. I've always loved this place because it embodies what I think a coffee shop should be: hip baristas, art and decor with personality, a great place to study, and a simple menu of house made baked goods and sustainable coffee drinks. In the last year I believe the shop is under new ownership, but it seems the new ownership has only continued to take it in the same great direction. There's a sweet wooden bar top now and the decor is very bicycle heavy, which is awesome. My only minor complaint is that Gray Owl's large size is nowhere near large enough to accommodate the amount of ice and coffee I require in my drink. I'm not the guy who likes 12 shots in my drink, either. I'm just talking about 2-3 oz of their fabulous cold press poured over enough ice that there's more than a few puny cubes left when the liquid cools down. I know not a lot of people are like me, picky about ice, but as hot as it gets in the summer surely I'm not the only one... My favorite thing about the Owl is their bakery case. I love l-o-v-e that everything is made in-house, right there. Not even in the back in a kitchen somewhere, but right there in front of you. The quiche is always great, as are the scones.

The atmosphere of Gray Owl is what I come for. It's the perfect place to study. However, the pastries (especially the gluten free brownies) are divine. The music is alternative and the lighting is perfect. Favourite spot in Norman :)

Best espresso bar in Norman. I Go every time I'm in town. The baristas are really nice and the pastries are made from scratch.

For the life of me, I cannot remember the last time I had such a good cup of drip coffee. It was so enjoyable that every sip was immediately followed by me making eye contact with Tanya M. and going, "Mmmmmm..." It helped that we were practically parked on I-35 during the post-work rush-hour so that I could do that without being concerned for our safety... Seriously... What a delightful cup of coffee. I've been trying to figure out where they get their coffee from. I noticed that one of the older reviews mentioned that it was Intelligentsia, and then another reviewer mentioned that it's not Intelligentsia anymore. Gray Owl doesn't have a website, and their Facebook page hasn't been much help. If anyone knows, please enlighten me and make a friend for life. However. The price is kinda... "Ehhh." Actually, the price is perfectly reasonable. For what I thought I was going to get. When I noticed that it was $2.00 for a small, I thought that it was not terribly expensive. This is especially true considering that everyone's favorite terrible coffee vendor (i.e. Starbucks) has a small (tall, whatever) beverage for approximately a quarter less. But then I'm informed that Gray Owl's small is 8 ounces. Which, if we were talking about an espresso beverage... Sure, whatever. I understand... Local. Artisan. Profit margins. Et cetera. But $2.00(ish) for 8 ounces of drip coffee is kind of... Mean. And I didn't even get the full 8 ounces by the way... Gray Owl has created this weird conflict in me where I want it, and don't want it at the same time. Once I figure out where the coffee is from, I probably won't be returning. Other aspects of note: The environment and decor is quite nice. As others have mentioned, there's a hipstery vibe, and the bicycles all over the place is a pleasant thematic choice. Parking is not an issue at all. So much room to be had in front, or across the street.

  • Michael W.

The Gray Owl flys with a special kind of hipster flock. The people watching is as good as the Hot Topic in the mall. I feel as if this is where a spiritual guide would take me to get a latte. The coffee is top flight. The furniture is kinda cool. The tunes insist upon themselves, but are good. The coffee is pricey, no refills. The artwork for sale is I think used as comic relief because of the laughably high prices for them. I came in for the coffee, I'll come back because there is literally hipsters barefoot to watch..

  • Marky M.

Definitely a great study spot! I loved going here during undergrad because the ambiance and espresso. The parking isn't bad, but because it's in Downtown Norman, you may struggle to find a spot sometimes.

  • Mandy M.

This is a great place to relax and study, read a book or meet friends. I've gotten the cold press which is really good, the vanilla latte with soy and some of their cookies. All the things I've tried before were really good. The service is pretty speedy. The atmosphere is great and the have good music. Great place to spend a couple of hours.

Authentic, one-off, rustic-yet-hip coffee lounge in Norman. Spending the whole afternoon here is a sincere pleasure... Free, speedy wifi. Nice employees. You won't even consider the Starbucks in town once you visit GOC.

  • Misha Z.

From the moment you open the door, the door is pretty, I could tell I would like this place. There are bikes hanging from the walls and it has a retro college vibe feel to it. Most importantly the coffee was good too. I got an iced vanilla latte. Not to sweet, just perfect. I didn't try the baked goods, which are made from scratch, and those look scrumptious too. In fact the baker was making a pie crust as we were paying at the cashier. A good stop for coffee if you are in the area.

  • Timothy M.

Of course anyone who lives in Norman will rave about this place, but for good reason: it deserves it. A great environment, a great selection of tea, and constantly playing J Dilla's Donuts makes this a happening joint.

    (5)
  • Quyen W.

Best coffee house in Norman. They take their coffee seriously in a laid back atmosphere of cobbled-together furnishings and "have a seat, we'll bring it to you" mentality. In a hurry? Want a sterile environment? Just need caffiene? There's a Starbucks down the road. Otherwise, do yourself some good, slow down (for once), and enjoy the most delicious coffee in Norman. And don't forget to check out the local art on the walls.

    (5)
  • Matt Q.

The best coffee place in Norman. The menu is relatively simple and the coffee is flavorful if somewhat expensive for the amount. The atmosphere is the the epitome of a (liberal) coffee house. You can hang out, sit down and play games or read a book (of which there are plenty of each)...oh and have your coffee. The one thing though they need is more seating; it's not like there isn't enough space.

  • Carrie O.

Pretty darn good! I like to support the local, so I definitely had to check out this place. Love their owl theme, and the cafe is really nice & airy inside. The coffee was good, not the best I've ever had, but definitely not bad. My husband's chai was really good, too. Kind of on the spicier & less sweet side, but he likes it that way. I love that they have rice milk that they use to make their drinks! Great if you're allergic to soy but don't do regular milk. Their lemon poppyseed muffin was quite good, too. Nice & lemony. I'd come back here! I think it'd be a nice place to see a band or something, too (and they do have live music here from time to time, it seems).

    (4)
  • Chris C.

Best coffee in Norman - actually, the best coffee I've had in Oklahoma. They make a perfect vanilla cappuccino and their baked goods are pretty decent too. Comfortable atmosphere and friendly folks all around.

I absolutely love going here everyday that I get to visit Norman. I love the atmosphere, the baking is fun to watch but even more amazing to eat. The coffee they serve is perfect in preparation and taste. I highly recommend Gray Owl Coffee

Decent enough for late night coffee, but not my favorite at all. Poor service, mostly because it take anywhere from 5-20 minutes to get your order. Honestly, I think several of the people that work there are either stoned, or just don't give a shit about you or your order. Coffee? To be fair, I am a coffee snob, so I tend to be very lenient when judging one cuppa to another, but this was ridiculous. I have had yirgacheffe brews before, but when I got a cup at Gray Owl, it was cool (temp), had a large amount of grounds in my cup, and tasted as if it had been burned and then was left to sit out. Not fresh at all. So, I tried an americano on my second trip, and my americano was burned, tasted too bitter, and lacked crema. Food? No complaints, truly. I have had several things from their case and they have all be good and fresh. The actual space is lovely. There is plenty of tables and chairs to accommodate the students that are there to study. There is also a large community couch in the back next to a well-stocked bookshelf. The music is good. There is a small table outside with a few chairs. Lots of artwork on the inside. Very nice. If the staff put more care into what they were doing, I think this would be a great place to grab coffee and study. However - and this is true for several places in Norman that have high school and early college students working there - the kids do not care about their jobs or the customers. As a person who has worked in many aspects of customer service, I was embarrassed that these people were a reflection of the business.

This quaint, hipster little coffee shop tucked away on Gray street is a nie little aversion to the busyness of life. The decor is nice, lots of local artwork for sale. Plenty of cozy couches to snuggle up on while sipping warm drinks, Their chai is delicious, but my favorite is a pot of peppermint tea. Hands down the best tea I've ever had, Their lattes are good as well, and the baristas are awesome about customizing drinks. Decent prices, delicious drinks and delectable service make this place a must go for coffee and tea drinkers alike.

Meh, I've had better. It took 15 minutes for the guy to make my mocha. I'm sorry but that is just too long, especially when there wasn't anybody else waiting for an espresso beverage. Then when I got the mocha, it was not very good. Way to milky, lacked chocolate flavor, and the espresso was BITTER! Nothing worse then a bitter espresso shot. The shop is pretty cool. Vintage bikes having from the ceiling. The seating is random, and there were a lot of college students. I think if they become a little quicker and put a little more care into their espresso timing this place could be a regular stop for me. Until then, my hunt for the perfect espresso in OK continues. ps i did fancy the espresso art on my coffee.

This is my favorite coffee place at least in Oklahoma... maybe anywhere. No matter who is behind the counter, they always get my drink just right. The atmosphere is cool too.

this might be the perfect coffee shop. It has plenty of space, a quiet hip arty vibe, good coffee, and tons of books to borrow. i'm pretty into coffee shops, and this one is one of the best i've been to. in no small part due to the older crowd, and lack of pretension. go here, it's great. and parking is easy, at least during the day.

This is my favorite coffee shop in Norman. Great atmosphere, tasty drinks, and easy parking. The funky chairs and tables inside remind me of a hispterish grandma type. Skip Starbucks and give Gray Owl a visit.

F*ing awesome place to study - some converted warehouse with couches and long tables w/lamps, sexy barista, games, good minimalistic drink and baked goods options (no real food), you can get pots of loose-leaf teas. SO happyhappy rocking. Don't come here because I want it all to my self. :) No, not really. you should go. YAY. Good free parking in front and across the street in the lot. Pretty safe at night and stays open late. Yeeeeeeeeeeee.

One of my absolute favorite study spots! The only significant downside I can think of is that it's pretty far from OUHSC. But, if you feel like making the 20-30 min drive, or just happen to be in the area, definitely come here! Here are a few of the perks and (mild) disadvantages: Pro's: 1. Never had trouble with the free wifi 2. Made from scratch, organic baked goods that smell amaaaazing. 3. Decent coffee and a fairly large collection of teas (that you can get in a cute little pot) 4. Every table has a personal lamp that looks like they randomly picked up at garage sales. Also small, hand-painted vases with flowers in them. If that doesn't make you a litte happy, I don't know what will. 5. Comfortable, cozy, and laidback. It's definitely got a young / shabby/ "hipster" atmosphere going on, but I like it because while it's trendy, it's very relaxed and you don't feel obliged to dress up or put on makeup just to get your study on. Because, really, who wants to do that? 6. great hours. I think they close around 11 pm every night. AND open on Sunday! 7. THERES A PATIO IN THE BACK 8. They usually have weird / interesting art in rotation. Nice to stare at if you're wanting a mini-brain-break. 9. SPACIOUS - tons of seating, sofas up front, a sectional near the back for lounging, and a bar at the front. If it is packed, you just wait a bit and most likely a seat will free up. Con's: 1. Well, I personally think that this lends to a more intimate environment, but some people I've studied with here have complained that the lighting is a bit dim. The place is narrow but extends far back, and there is only one wall with a large window facing the street. Meaning, there isn't a ton of natural light going on, if you're into that. But, like I said, there are lamps at every table. 2. Maybe you're the type of person that doesn't like seeing people in skinny jeans or thick glasses... if this describes you, then you should probably avoid this place. (and lighten up, geez) 3. It gets a bit busy/noisy near the evening on some days as it's very near OU. Lots of the undergrads will come to study and chat. If it's near finals week - it will probably be packed. Unfortunately, it's quite a popular study spot in Norman.

Great coffee drinks. My only criticism is that they didn't have the syrups I wanted or a blender for frozen drinks, which is needed in the Oklahoma heat.

  • C C.

Eh. Grey Owl wants to be the college/hipster hangout coffee shop, but misses a lot. It's hours are pretty bad, closing early most nights so that Starbucks becomes a better late-evening option. The coffee isn't bad, but there's rarely a spot to sit and work, the employees never seem in a rush to prepare your drink, and the general pretension of the place eventually wears at you. I've finally given up trying and begun to frequent other coffee shoppes in town.

  • Jenny B.

Gray Owl is probably the best coffee shop in Norman. Their coffee isn't bitter like most other places... it may be stronger than most, but it has more flavor than any other coffee place in Norman. Pastry counter is okay. Not amazing. It does smell delicious, though, when they're baking stuff.... They have a big selection of teas. They're great.

    (4)
  • Cory H.

The mocha's here are soooooooo good here. Man are they good (referring again to the mocha's). You know what else is good? Prolly everything! But I know for sure that the scones are good and the peanut butter glazed brownies are ellsxcelellntslllpp! (That's how you say "excellent" when you're drooling). This place is hip too. They pipe in good music and the furniture is eclectic. Bring your mom. I do.

Gray Owl has always been a favorite. On the inside, the building has been stripped down to the concrete with original local artwork displayed (and for sale). The thrift furniture is all mismatched but works together, along with the plethora of magazines, books and board games at your disposal. Their coffee is Intelligentsia, which truly works with and gives back to the communities they get their beans from. Gray Owl even has eco-friendly containers, tops, sleeves & stirrers, so you can enjoy guilt-free. The employees are always pretty friendly and are willing to make you a sample and let you smell the teas before you commit to a whole drink. My favorite thing to get there is a soy vanilla latte. Their syrup is flavorful & not overly sweet. All of the baked goods are made there and are oh-so-delicious. The quiche makes me feel like I am back in Paris. They also carry sandwiches from Forward Foods, another splendid and delicious option in Norman and OKC. Great if you want to chat, study or read. The prices have gone up since they opened, but still reasonable. Be aware that their drinks are made the classic way and not like Starbucks. Which is a good thing. Free water. Yay! If you bring them a mix tape you can get a free regular coffee. They are open late weekdays and weekends. If you are staying awhile, park in the lot across the street, otherwise you can park right out front usually. A must in Norman for the atmosphere, quality drinks and baked goods!
