    Before their prices escalated to $8 a pound for cherries or $12 a pound for rib steaks, I frequented Heinen's. There was a special refrigerated section for cream pies made by Mama Jo. The name discouraged me as I imagined some Y'all southerner like Paula Deen pushing yet another product or the peculiar tasting Aunt Oddie's sweet potato pies sold at Dave's Markets. One day as I was being my usual good self continuing with the work Mother Teresa left behind, I was attacked by a chocolate pie craving. I tried to ignore it but found myself pulled to the refrigerated Mama Jo pies at Heinen's. If I were to continue rebuilding New Orleans or tending the poor and sick of India I would first have to tend to my own pie needs. Brothers and Sisters as I ate that dark chocolate cream pie the truth was revealed to me. The nation ran to the aid of New Orleans twice demanding it be rebuilt and the polluter of its gulf spend billions as restitution. As I ate the pie I heard the never ending laughter from those same saviors directed at our river so polluted it caught fire. I saw visions of white collar and professional jobs leaving the sands of Lake Erie for the streets of Mumbai. With their growing wealth let the Indians take care of their own. I continued eating revelation chocolate pie but discontinued misdirected good deeds until Mama Jo let me down. She changed the recipe so her rich dark chocolate tasted more like a Bill Cosby pudding pop. Last evening I saw this Mama Jo store as I was going to dinner at friends in Medina. The woman at the counter politely let me lament on the new and unimproved chocolate pies. She smiled knowing she would win me back and suggested the fresh strawberry cheese pie. I took one to my friends. After a steak dinner we sat at the round outdoor table eating that pie. Mama Jo once again reigns as number one pie lady. The fresh strawberries were lightly coated with a not overly sweet syrup and the cream cheese base was light and again not overly sweet. There are cookies and home made candies but blessedly not a cup cake in sight.

    Mama Jo's pies are wonderful. Priced fairly and multiple sizes are available. The crust is fantastic and the flavors are great. Fruit pie fillings are fresh and well textured. Cream pies are tasty. Worth every penny.

    The WORST customer service! As I entered the owner says rudely to a man she was helping "ehh I guess I am not closing" then looks up at me and yells "oh nooo don't ruin my flooor!". Hmm it was raining outside, did she expect her customers to remove their shoes at the door? I turned around and left. I will not support rude unappreciative people like that. Stay away. There are bakeries in the area that would appreciate your business and not find it a burden!!!!

    Smiling faces and fantastic pies! My favorite pie is Key Lime, without a doubt. It's got a nice tart flavor, like it should. It makes you pucker a little, but is sweet and creamy. Pumpkin Cheesecake is my finace's favorite, as it combines his favorite two flavors. They don't have this one all the time. It may be seasonal, or you might have to request it a day in advance. Pecan cheesecake is a good standby when they don't have pumpkin cheese. French Silk, a chocolate cream pie with whipped cream on top, is what I have when my mother comes over. It's a great crowd-pleaser, and a must for chocolate-lovers. They sell pies in three different sizes, so you can get a small pie for everyone. They always have a huge variety, and while some pies can sell out, they're sure to have your second-favorite in stock. I prefer their cream pies to their fruit pies, but that's just me. I love the staff. They represent why I moved to Medina: small-town friendliness.
